Amaury Forgeot d'Arc 293924bf31 Issue 2975: when compiling multiple extension modules with visual studio 2008 
from the same python instance, some environment variables (LIB, INCLUDE)
would grow without limit.

Tested with these statements:
    distutils.ccompiler.new_compiler().initialize()
    print os.environ['LIB']
But I don't know how to turn them into reliable unit tests.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc 351ffb80c3 #2234 distutils failed with mingw binutils 2.18.50.20080109. 
Be less strict when parsing these version numbers,
they don't necessarily follow the python numbering scheme.

Ronald Oussoren 5640ce2f1e MacOS X: Enable 4-way universal builds 
This patch adds a new configure argument on OSX:
        --with-universal-archs=[32-bit|64-bit|all]

When used with the --enable-universalsdk option this controls which
CPU architectures are includes in the framework. The default is 32-bit,
meaning i386 and ppc. The most useful alternative is 'all', which includes
all 4 CPU architectures supported by MacOS X (i386, ppc, x86_64 and ppc64).

This includes limited support for the Carbon bindings in 64-bit mode as well,
limited because (a) I haven't done extensive testing and (b) a large portion
of the Carbon API's aren't available in 64-bit mode anyway.

I've also duplicated a feature of Apple's build of python: setting the
environment variable 'ARCHFLAGS' controls the '-arch' flags used for building
extensions using distutils.

Alexandre Vassalotti eb8cef2664 Fixed import of configparser in the distutils module. 
If configparser is unavailable, try to import configparser using its
old name. This is required for backward-compatibility with older
Python versions.

Alexandre Vassalotti 7663f9e4ff Revert distutils changes done in r63248. 
As explained by Marc-Andre Lemburg, distutils needs to stay
backward-compatible. Therefore, it should use the old ConfigParser
module name.

Thomas Wouters 2fab8f1abb Fix test_distutils to not fail when running 'make test' from a Python build 
directory that is not the source directory (ie, one created using
'/path/to/source/configure'.) Leaves this test very slightly degraded in
that particular case, compared to the build-in-sourcedir case, but that case
isn't a particularly strong test either: neither test the actual path that
will be used after installing. There isn't a particularly good way to test
this, and a poor test beats a failing test.

__file__ wrong)

Fred Drake 46c58c17f1 - Issue #2385: distutils.core.run_script() makes __file__ available, so the 
controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical script
  environment.  This supports setup.py scripts that refer to data files.
