Linus Torvalds a9a08845e9 vfs: do bulk POLL* -> EPOLL* replacement
This is the mindless scripted replacement of kernel use of POLL*
variables as described by Al, done by this script:

for V in IN OUT PRI ERR RDNORM RDBAND WRNORM WRBAND HUP RDHUP NVAL MSG; do
        L=`git grep -l -w POLL$V | grep -v '^t' | grep -v /um/ | grep -v '^sa' | grep -v '/poll.h$'|grep -v '^D'`
        for f in $L; do sed -i "-es/^\([^\"]*\)\(\<POLL$V\>\)/\\1E\\2/" $f; done
    done

with de-mangling cleanups yet to come.

NOTE! On almost all architectures, the EPOLL* constants have the same
values as the POLL* constants do. But they keyword here is "almost".
For various bad reasons they aren't the same, and epoll() doesn't
actually work quite correctly in some cases due to this on Sparc et al.

The next patch from Al will sort out the final differences, and we
should be all done.

Deepa Dinamani 152194fe9c Input: extend usable life of event timestamps to 2106 on 32 bit systems
The input events use struct timeval to store event time, unfortunately
this structure is not y2038 safe and is being replaced in kernel with
y2038 safe structures.

Because of ABI concerns we can not change the size or the layout of
structure input_event, so we opt to re-interpreting the 'seconds' part
of timestamp as an unsigned value, effectively doubling the range of
values, to year 2106.

Newer glibc that has support for 32 bit applications to use 64 bit
time_t supplies __USE_TIME_BITS64 define [1], that we can use to present
the userspace with updated input_event layout. The updated layout will
cause the compile time breakage, alerting applications and distributions
maintainers to the issue. Existing 32 binaries will continue working
without any changes until 2038.

Ultimately userspace applications should switch to using monotonic or
boot time clocks, as realtime clock is not very well suited for input
event timestamps as it can go backwards (see a80b83b7b8 "Input: evdev -
add CLOCK_BOOTTIME support" by by John Stultz). With monotonic clock the
practical range of reported times will always fit into the pair of 32
bit values, as we do not expect any system to stay up for a hundred
years without a single reboot.

Deepa Dinamani b3495cecb2 Input: uinput - use monotonic times for timestamps
struct timeval which is part of struct input_event to maintain the event
times is not y2038 safe.

Real time timestamps are also not ideal for input_event as this time can go
backwards as noted in the patch a80b83b7b8 by John Stultz.

The patch switches the timestamps to use monotonic time from realtime time.
This is assuming no one is using absolute times from these timestamps.

The structure to maintain input events will be changed in a different
patch.

While we could solve this by simply initializing the completion earlier, we
are better off rearranging the code a bit so we avoid calling complete() on
requests that we did not send out. This patch consolidates marking request
slots as free in one place (in uinput_request_submit(), the same place
where we acquire them) and having everyone else simply signal completion
of the requests.

Dmitry Torokhov e8b95728f7 Input: uinput - avoid FF flush when destroying device
Normally, when input device supporting force feedback effects is being
destroyed, we try to "flush" currently playing effects, so that the
physical device does not continue vibrating (or executing other effects).
Unfortunately this does not work well for uinput as flushing of the effects
deadlocks with the destroy action:

- if device is being destroyed because the file descriptor is being closed,
  then there is noone to even service FF requests;

- if device is being destroyed because userspace sent UI_DEV_DESTROY,
while theoretically it could be possible to service FF requests,
userspace is unlikely to do so (they'd need to make sure FF handling
happens on a separate thread) even if kernel solves the issue with FF
ioctls deadlocking with UI_DEV_DESTROY ioctl on udev->mutex.

To avoid lockups like the one below, let's install a custom input device
flush handler, and avoid trying to flush force feedback effects when we
destroying the device, and instead rely on uinput to shut off the device
properly.

PrasannaKumar Muralidharan ca75d601b5 miscdevice: Add helper macro for misc device boilerplate
Many modules call misc_register and misc_deregister in its module init

Benjamin Tissoires 052876f8e5 Input: uinput - add new UINPUT_DEV_SETUP and UI_ABS_SETUP ioctl
This adds two new ioctls, UINPUT_DEV_SETUP and UI_ABS_SETUP, that replaces
the old device setup method (by write()'ing "struct uinput_user_dev" to the
node). The old method is not easily extendable and requires huge payloads.
Furthermore, overloading write() without properly versioned objects is
error-prone.

Therefore, we introduce two new ioctls to replace the old method. These
ioctls support all features of the old method, plus a "resolution" field
for absinfo. Furthermore, it's properly forward-compatible to new ABS codes
and a growing "struct input_absinfo" structure.

UI_ABS_SETUP also allows user-space to skip unknown axes if not set. There
is no need to copy the whole array temporarily into the kernel, but instead
the caller issues several ioctl where we copy each value manually.

Benjamin Tissoires e3480a61fc Input: uinput - add UI_GET_SYSNAME ioctl to retrieve the sysfs path
uinput is used in the xorg-integration-tests suite and in the wayland
test suite. These automated tests suites create many virtual input
devices and then hook something to read these newly created devices.

Currently, uinput does not provide the created input device, which means
that we rely on an heuristic to guess which input node was created.
The problem is that is heuristic is subjected to races between different
uinput devices or even with physical devices. Having a way to retrieve
the sysfs path allows us to find without any doubts the event node.

Dmitry Torokhov 22ae19c6e3 Input: uinput - fix race that can block nonblocking read
Consider two threads calling read() on the same uinput-fd, both
non-blocking. Assume there is data-available so both will simultaneously
pass:
	udev->head == udev->tail

Then the first thread goes to sleep and the second one pops the message
from the queue. Now assume udev->head == udev->tail. If the first thread
wakes up it will call wait_event_*() and sleep in the waitq. This
effectively turns the non-blocking FD into a blocking one.

We fix this by attempting to fetch events from the queue first and only
if we fail to retrieve any events we either return -EAGAIN (in case of
non-blocing read) or wait until there are more events.

This also fixes incorrect return code (we were returning 0 instead of
-EAGAIN for non-blocking reads) when an event is "stolen" by another
thread. Blocking reads will now continue to wait instead of returning 0
in this scenario.

Count of 0 continues to be a special case, as per spec: we will check for
device existence and whether there are events in the queue, but no events
will be actually retrieved.

Henrik Rydberg 85b7720039 Input: introduce device properties
Today, userspace sets up an input device based on the data it emits.
This is not always enough; a tablet and a touchscreen may emit exactly
the same data, for instance, but the former should be set up with a
pointer whereas the latter does not need to. Recently, a new type of
touchpad has emerged where the buttons are under the pad, which
changes logic without changing the emitted data. This patch introduces
a new ioctl, EVIOCGPROP, which enables user access to a set of device
properties useful during setup. The properties are given as a bitmap
in the same fashion as the event types, and are also made available
via sysfs, uevent and /proc/bus/input/devices.

Arnd Bergmann 6038f373a3 llseek: automatically add .llseek fop
All file_operations should get a .llseek operation so we can make
nonseekable_open the default for future file operations without a
.llseek pointer.

The three cases that we can automatically detect are no_llseek, seq_lseek
and default_llseek. For cases where we can we can automatically prove that
the file offset is always ignored, we use noop_llseek, which maintains
the current behavior of not returning an error from a seek.

New drivers should normally not use noop_llseek but instead use no_llseek
and call nonseekable_open at open time. Existing drivers can be converted
to do the same when the maintainer knows for certain that no user code
relies on calling seek on the device file.

The generated code is often incorrectly indented and right now contains
comments that clarify for each added line why a specific variant was
chosen. In the version that gets submitted upstream, the comments will
be gone and I will manually fix the indentation, because there does not
seem to be a way to do that using coccinelle.

Some amount of new code is currently sitting in linux-next that should get
the same modifications, which I will do at the end of the merge window.

Many thanks to Julia Lawall for helping me learn to write a semantic
patch that does all this.
