Using strncpy() is indeed less than perfect since the length of data to

this.

We are going to split <linux/sched/signal.h> out of <linux/sched.h>, which
will have to be picked up from other headers and a couple of .c files.
Create a trivial placeholder <linux/sched/signal.h> file that just
maps to <linux/sched.h> to make this patch obviously correct and
bisectable.
Include the new header in the files that are going to need it.

Replace ASYNC_INITIALIZED bit in the tty_port::flags field with
TTY_PORT_INITIALIZED bit in the tty_port::iflags field. Introduce helpers
tty_port_set_initialized() and tty_port_initialized() to abstract
atomic bit ops.
Note: the transforms for test_and_set_bit() and test_and_clear_bit()
are unnecessary as the state transitions are already mutually exclusive;
the tty lock prevents concurrent open/close/hangup.

Extract state changes from port lock sections, as this usage is
broken and confused; the state transitions are protected by the
tty lock (which mutually excludes parallel open/close/hangup),
and no user tests the active state while holding the port lock.

tty_wait_until_sent_from_close() drops the tty lock while waiting
for the tty driver to finish sending previously accepted data (ie.,
data remaining in its write buffer and transmit fifo).
tty_wait_until_sent_from_close() was added by commit a57a7bf3fc
("TTY: define tty_wait_until_sent_from_close") to prevent the entire
tty subsystem from being unable to open new ttys while waiting for
one tty to close while output drained.
However, since commit 0911261d4c ("tty: Don't take tty_mutex for tty
count changes"), holding a tty lock while closing does not prevent other
ttys from being opened/closed/hung up, but only prevents lifetime event
changes for the tty under lock.
Holding the tty lock while waiting for output to drain does prevent
parallel non-blocking opens (O_NONBLOCK) from advancing or returning
while the tty lock is held. However, all parallel opens _already_
block even if the tty lock is dropped while closing and the parallel
open advances. Blocking in open has been in mainline since at least 2.6.29
(see tty_port_block_til_ready(); note the test for O_NONBLOCK is _after_
the wait while ASYNC_CLOSING).
IOW, before this patch a non-blocking open will sleep anyway for the
_entire_ duration of a parallel hardware shutdown, and when it wakes, the
error return will cause a release of its tty, and it will restart with
a fresh attempt to open. Similarly with a blocking open that is already
waiting; when it's woken, the hardware shutdown has already completed
to ASYNC_INITIALIZED is not set, which forces a release and restart as
well.
So, holding the tty lock across the _entire_ close (which is what this
patch does), even while waiting for output to drain, is equivalent to
the current outcome wrt parallel opens.

tty->hw_stopped is set only by drivers to remember HW state. If it is
never set to 1 in a particular driver, there is no need to check it in
the driver at all. Remove such checks.

strlen(msg) may be more than 80+ (Modem-Commandbuffer, less than 255).

so need check the length to be sure not memory overflow.

tty_port. This will allow us to get rid of the need of tty in many
call sites. Only tty_port will needed and hence no more
tty_port_tty_get in those paths.
Now, the one where most of tty_port_tty_get gets removed:
tty_flip_buffer_push.
IOW we also closed all the races in drivers not using tty_port_tty_get
at all yet.
Also we move tty_flip_buffer_push declaration from include/linux/tty.h
to include/linux/tty_flip.h to all others while we are changing it
anyway.

After commit "TTY: move tty buffers to tty_port", the tty buffers are
not freed in some drivers. This is because tty_port_destructor is not
called whenever a tty_port is freed. This was an assumption I counted
with but was unfortunately untrue. So fix the drivers to fulfil this
assumption.
To be sure, the TTY buffers (and later some stuff) are gone along with
the tty_port, we have to call tty_port_destroy at tear-down places.
This is mostly where the structure containing a tty_port is freed.
This patch does exactly that -- put tty_port_destroy at those places.

This will let us sort out a whole pile of tty related races. The
alternative would be to keep points and refcount the termios objects.
However

The code does almost the same, so there we can leverage the helper's
code. The only difference is locking. The helper protects counts by a
spinlock. This never hurts and should be added to other code parts
too.

* Remove the 5 indent levels by just returning from isdn_tty_try_read
when the conditions there are not satisfied.
* Use 'continue' in loop in isdn_tty_readmodem to save 2 levels.
* Chain 'if's in isdn_tty_modem_escape.
* Use 'continue' in loop in isdn_tty_carrier_timeout to save 1 level.
Better to look at this patch with -w -b.

The module which called allocate_tty_driver is already refcounted by
the TTY layer automatically. And since THIS_MODULE is isdn_tty and it
allocated the tty_driver, there is no need to do the counts in isdn's
tty->ops->open/close.

They are the same as TTY ones. So there is no need to redefine them.
Remove ISDN_ASYNC_* and use only ASYNC_*. Except the MAGIC number, of
course.
While we are there, remove also the SERIAL_TYPE flags which are
unused.
Perhaps we should move the ASYNC flags from serial.h to tty.h given
they are used by the tty layer and tty drivers, not only serial?

I wonder how this survived there during the whole 2.6 series until now
:D.
Callouts are not used for a decade, so let us remove it also from
isdn. This means removal of ISDN_ASYNC_CALLOUT_ACTIVE which is never
raised in info->flags and callout_termios which are never used.
This will help us to get rid of ISDN_ASYNC_* flags and use ASYNC ones
from serial.h. And then we will switch to tty_port.

Fix up fairly trivial conflicts in drivers/isdn/gigaset/interface.c and
drivers/net/usb/{Kconfig,qmi_wwan.c} as per David.
Checking if tty->index is in bounds is not needed. The tty has the
index set in the initial open. This is done in get_tty_driver. And it
can be only in interval <0,driver->num).
So remove the tests which check exactly this interval. Some are
left untouched as they check against the current backing device count.
(Leaving apart that the check is racy in most of the cases.)

isdn source code uses a not-current coding style.
Update the coding style used on a per-line basis
so that git diff -w shows only elided blank lines
at EOF.
Done with emacs and some scripts and some typing.
Built x86 allyesconfig.
No detected change in objdump -d or size.

Let's use the newly added helper to avoid stalls in drivers which are
not yet ported to tty_port helpers.
Those which are broken (call tty_wait_until_sent with irqs disabled)
are left untouched. They are in a deeper trouble than we are trying to
solve here. This includes amiserial, 68328serial, 68360serial and
crisv10.

We don't actually need this and it causes problems for internal use of
this functionality. Currently there is a single use of the FILE * pointer.
That is the serial core which uses it to check tty_hung_up_p. However if
that is true then IO_ERROR is also already set so the check may be removed.
