mm: ZONE_DEVICE for "device memory"
While pmem is usable as a block device or via DAX mappings to userspace there are several usage scenarios that can not target pmem due to its lack of struct page coverage. In preparation for "hot plugging" pmem into the vmemmap add ZONE_DEVICE as a new zone to tag these pages separately from the ones that are subject to standard page allocations. Importantly "device memory" can be removed at will by userspace unbinding the driver of the device. Having a separate zone prevents allocation and otherwise marks these pages that are distinct from typical uniform memory. Device memory has different lifetime and performance characteristics than RAM. However, since we have run out of ZONES_SHIFT bits this functionality currently depends on sacrificing ZONE_DMA. Cc: H. arch: introduce memremap()
Existing users of ioremap_cache() are mapping memory that is known in advance to not have i/o side effects. These users are forced to cast away the __iomem annotation, or otherwise neglect to fix the sparse errors thrown when dereferencing pointers to this memory. Provide memremap() as a non __iomem annotated ioremap_*() in the case when ioremap is otherwise a pointer to cacheable memory. Empirically, ioremap_<cacheable-type>() call sites are seeking memory-like semantics (e.g. speculative reads, and prefetching permitted). memremap() is a break from the ioremap implementation pattern of adding a new memremap_<type>() for each mapping type and having silent compatibility fall backs. Instead, the implementation defines flags that are passed to the central memremap() and if a mapping type is not supported by an arch memremap returns NULL. We introduce a memremap prototype as a trivial wrapper of ioremap_cache() and ioremap_wt(). Later, once all ioremap_cache() and ioremap_wt() usage has been removed from drivers we teach archs to implement arch_memremap() with the ability to strictly enforce the mapping type. sh/localtimer: Migrate to new 'set-state' interface
Migrate sh driver to the new 'set-state' interface provided by clockevents core, the earlier 'set-mode' interface is marked obsolete now. This also enables us to implement callbacks for new states of clockevent devices, for example: ONESHOT_STOPPED. We weren't doing anything in the ->set_mode() callback. So, this patch doesn't provide any set-state callbacks. Cc: linux-sh@vger.kernel.org Signed-off-by: Viresh Kumar <viresh.kumar@linaro.org> Signed-off-by: Daniel Lezcano <daniel.lezcano@linaro.org> |

Its return value is not used by the subsys core and nothing meaningful can be done with it, even if we want to use it. The subsys device is anyway getting removed. arch/*/io.h: Add ioremap_uc() to all architectures
This adds ioremap_uc() only for architectures that do not include asm-generic.h/io.h as that already provides a default definition for them for both cases where you have CONFIG_MMU and you do not, and because of this, the number of architectures this patch address is less than the architectures that the ioremap_wt() patch addressed, "arch/*/io.h: Add ioremap_wt() to all architectures"). In order to reduce the number of architectures we have to modify by adding new architecture IO APIs we'll have to review the architectures in this patch, see why they can't add asm-generic.h/io.h or issues that would be created by doing so and then spread a consistent inclusion of this header towards the end of their own header. For instance arch/metag includes the asm-generic/io.h *before* the ioremap*() definitions, this should be the other way around but only once we have guard wrappers for the non-MMU case also for asm-generic/io.h. This series of commits converts non-modular code that is using the module_init() call to hook itself into the system to instead use device_initcall(). The conversion is a runtime no-op, since module_init actually becomes __initcall in the non-modular case, and that in turn gets mapped onto device_initcall. mm: new mm hook framework
CRIU is recreating the process memory layout by remapping the checkpointee memory area on top of the current process (criu). This includes remapping the vDSO to the place it has at checkpoint time. However some architectures like powerpc are keeping a reference to the vDSO base address to build the signal return stack frame by calling the vDSO sigreturn service. So once the vDSO has been moved, this reference is no more valid and the signal frame built later are not usable. This patch serie is introducing a new mm hook framework, and a new arch_remap hook which is called when mremap is done and the mm lock still hold. The next patch is adding the vDSO remap and unmap tracking to the powerpc architecture. This patch (of 3): This patch introduces a new set of header file to manage mm hooks: - per architecture empty header file (arch/x/include/asm/mm-arch-hooks.h) - a generic header (include/linux/mm-arch-hooks.h) The architecture which need to overwrite a hook as to redefine it in its header file, while architecture which doesn't need have nothing to do. The default hooks are defined in the generic header and are used in the case the architecture is not defining it. In a next step, mm hooks defined in include/asm-generic/mm_hooks.h should be moved here. Merge branch 'for-linus-clk' of git://ftp.arm.linux.org.uk/~rmk/linux-arm
Pull clkdev updates from Russell King: "This series addresses some breakage in clkdev caused by a previous patch set from the clk tree which introduced per-user clk structures. This basically renamed the existing 'struct clk' to 'struct clk_hw', and introduced a new 'struct clk'. This change will break anyone using clk_add_alias() with the common clk code enabled. Thankfully, the intersection of users of clk_add_alias() and those using the common clk code is practically zero, but this is something which should be fixed to keep the code sane. The problem is that clk_add_alias() does this: r = clk_get(...); l = clkdev_alloc(r, ...); clk_put(...); which causes the alias to store a pointer to 'r', which has been freed. The original patch set tried to work around this problem incorrectly - at clk_get() time, it tried to convert the struct clk to a struct clk_hw, and then creating a new struct clk from that. Clearly, if the original struct clk has been freed, then we have a use-after-free bug. We have other places in the tree which do something similar, so this series also addresses those locations too. This series addresses this problem by converting clkdev to store and use the clk_hw pointer. This allows clk_get() to only have to create it's per-user struct clk from the clk_hw. We can also get to the desired clk_hw at clk_add_alias() or clk lookup creation time, when the struct clk is "alive". We also perform some cleanups of the code: - replacing looped calls to clkdev_add() with clkdev_add_table() - replacing open-coded lookup allocation (which should have been using clkdev_alloc()) and subsequent clkdev_add() with clkdev_create() - replacing open-coded clk_add_alias() with clk_add_alias()" * 'for-linus-clk' of git://ftp.arm.linux.org.uk/~rmk/linux-arm: clk: s2mps11: use clkdev_create() ASoC: migor: use clkdev_create() ARM: omap2: use clkdev_add_alias() ARM: omap2: use clkdev_create() ARM: orion: use clkdev_create() ARM: lpc32xx: convert to use clkdev_add_table() SH: use clkdev_add_table() clkdev: add clkdev_create() helper clkdev: const-ify connection id to clk_add_alias() clkdev: get rid of redundant clk_add_alias() prototype in linux/clk.h clkdev: drop __init from clkdev_add_table() clk: update clk API documentation to clarify clk_round_rate() clkdev: use clk_hw internally |

sh: don't use module_init in non-modular psw.c code
The psw.o is built for obj-y -- and hence this code is always present. It will never be modular, so using module_init as an alias for __initcall can be somewhat misleading. Fix this up now, so that we can relocate module_init from init.h into module.h in the future. If we don't do this, we'd have to add module.h to obviously non-modular code, and that would be a worse thing. Note that direct use of __initcall is discouraged, vs. one of the priority categorized subgroups. As __initcall gets mapped onto device_initcall, our use of device_initcall directly in this change means that the runtime impact is zero -- it will remain at level 6 in initcall ordering. sh: mach-highlander/psw.c is tristate and should use module.h
This file is controlled by a tristate Kconfig option, and hence needs to include module.h so that it can get module_init() once we relocate it from init.h into module.h in the future. Note that module_exit() appears to be missing from the driver, so it is questionable whether it would actually work for a removal and reload cycle if it was configured for a modular build. mm/fault, arch: Use pagefault_disable() to check for disabled pagefaults in the handler
Introduce faulthandler_disabled() and use it to check for irq context and disabled pagefaults (via pagefault_disable()) in the pagefault handlers. Please note that we keep the in_atomic() checks in place - to detect whether in irq context (in which case preemption is always properly disabled). In contrast, preempt_disable() should never be used to disable pagefaults. With !CONFIG_PREEMPT_COUNT, preempt_disable() doesn't modify the preempt counter, and therefore the result of in_atomic() differs. We validate that condition by using might_fault() checks when calling might_sleep(). Therefore, add a comment to faulthandler_disabled(), describing why this is needed. faulthandler_disabled() and pagefault_disable() are defined in linux/uaccess.h, so let's properly add that include to all relevant files. This patch is based on a patch from Thomas Gleixner. PCI: Assign resources before drivers claim devices (pci_scan_root_bus())
Previously, pci_scan_root_bus() created a root PCI bus, enumerated the devices on it, and called pci_bus_add_devices(), which made the devices available for drivers to claim them. Most callers assigned resources to devices after pci_scan_root_bus() returns, which may be after drivers have claimed the devices. This is incorrect; the PCI core should not change device resources while a driver is managing the device. Remove pci_bus_add_devices() from pci_scan_root_bus() and do it after any resource assignment in the callers. Note that ARM's pci_common_init_dev() already called pci_bus_add_devices() after pci_scan_root_bus(), so we only need to remove the first call: pci_common_init_dev pcibios_init_hw pci_scan_root_bus pci_bus_add_devices # first call pci_bus_assign_resources pci_bus_add_devices # second call [bhelgaas: changelog, drop "root_bus" var in alpha common_init_pci(), return failure earlier in mn10300, add "return" in x86 pcibios_scan_root(), return early if xtensa platform_pcibios_fixup() fails] Signed-off-by: Yijing Wang <wangyijing@huawei.com> Signed-off-by: Bjorn Helgaas <bhelgaas@google.com> CC: Richard Henderson <rth@twiddle.net> CC: Ivan Kokshaysky <ink@jurassic.park.msu.ru> CC: Matt Turner <mattst88@gmail.com> CC: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> CC: Tony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com> CC: Michal Simek <monstr@monstr.eu> CC: Ralf Baechle <ralf@linux-mips.org> CC: Koichi Yasutake <yasutake.koichi@jp.panasonic.com> CC: Sebastian Ott <sebott@linux.vnet.ibm.com> CC: "David S. all arches, signal: move restart_block to struct task_struct
If an attacker can cause a controlled kernel stack overflow, overwriting the restart block is a very juicy exploit target. This is because the restart_block is held in the same memory allocation as the kernel stack. Moving the restart block to struct task_struct prevents this exploit by making the restart_block harder to locate. Note that there are other fields in thread_info that are also easy targets, at least on some architectures. It's also a decent simplification, since the restart code is more or less identical on all architectures. mm: make FIRST_USER_ADDRESS unsigned long on all archs
LKP has triggered a compiler warning after my recent patch "mm: account pmd page tables to the process": mm/mmap.c: In function 'exit_mmap': >> mm/mmap.c:2857:2: warning: right shift count >= width of type [enabled by default] The code: > 2857 WARN_ON(mm_nr_pmds(mm) > 2858 round_up(FIRST_USER_ADDRESS, PUD_SIZE) >> PUD_SHIFT); In this, on tile, we have FIRST_USER_ADDRESS defined as 0. round_up() has the same type -- int. mm/hugetlb: reduce arch dependent code around follow_huge_*
Currently we have many duplicates in definitions around follow_huge_addr(), follow_huge_pmd(), and follow_huge_pud(), so this patch tries to remove the m. The basic idea is to put the default implementation for these functions in mm/hugetlb.c as weak symbols (regardless of CONFIG_ARCH_WANT_GENERAL_HUGETL B), and to implement arch-specific code only when the arch needs it. For follow_huge_addr(), only powerpc and ia64 have their own implementation, and in all other architectures this function just returns ERR_PTR(-EINVAL). So this patch sets returning ERR_PTR(-EINVAL) as default. As for follow_huge_(pmd|pud)(), if (pmd|pud)_huge() is implemented to always return 0 in your architecture (like in ia64 or sparc,) it's never called (the callsite is optimized away) no matter how implemented it is. So in such architectures, we don't need arch-specific implementation. In some architecture (like mips, s390 and tile,) their current arch-specific follow_huge_(pmd|pud)() are effectively identical with the common code, so this patch lets these architecture use the common code. One exception is metag, where pmd_huge() could return non-zero but it expects follow_huge_pmd() to always return NULL. This means that we need arch-specific implementation which returns NULL. This behavior looks strange to me (because non-zero pmd_huge() implies that the architecture supports PMD-based hugepage, so follow_huge_pmd() can/should return some relevant value,) but that's beyond this cleanup patch, so let's keep it. Justification of non-trivial changes: - in s390, follow_huge_pmd() checks !MACHINE_HAS_HPAGE at first, and this patch removes the check. This is OK because we can assume MACHINE_HAS_HPAGE is true when follow_huge_pmd() can be called (note that pmd_huge() has the same check and always returns 0 for !MACHINE_HAS_HPAGE.) - in s390 and mips, we use HPAGE_MASK instead of PMD_MASK as done in common code. This patch forces these archs use PMD_MASK, but it's OK because they are identical in both archs. In s390, both of HPAGE_SHIFT and PMD_SHIFT are 20. In mips, HPAGE_SHIFT is defined as (PAGE_SHIFT + PAGE_SHIFT - 3) and PMD_SHIFT is define as (PAGE_SHIFT + PAGE_SHIFT + PTE_ORDER - 3), but PTE_ORDER is always 0, so these are identical. vm: add VM_FAULT_SIGSEGV handling support
The core VM already knows about VM_FAULT_SIGBUS, but cannot return a
"you should SIGSEGV" error, because the SIGSEGV case was generally
handled by the caller - usually the architecture fault handler.
That results in lots of duplication - all the architecture fault
handlers end up doing very similar "look up vma, check permissions, do
retries etc" - but it generally works. However, there are cases where
the VM actually wants to SIGSEGV, and applications _expect_ SIGSEGV.
In particular, when accessing the stack guard page, libsigsegv expects a
SIGSEGV. And it usually got one, because the stack growth is handled by
that duplicated architecture fault handler.
However, when the generic VM layer started propagating the error return
from the stack expansion in commit

sh: fix put_user sparse errors
virtio wants to write bitwise types to userspace using put_user. At the moment this triggers sparse errors, since the value is passed through an integer. For example: __le32 __user *p; __le32 x; put_user(x, p); is safe, but currently triggers a sparse warning. Fix that up using __force. Note: this does not suppress any useful sparse checks since caller assigns x to typeof(*p), which in turn forces all the necessary type checks. Signed-off-by: Michael S. Tsirkin <mst@redhat.com> |

ACPI and power management updates for 3.19-rc1
This time we have some more new material than we used to have during the last couple of development cycles. The most important part of it to me is the introduction of a unified interface for accessing device properties provided by platform firmware. It works with Device Trees and ACPI in a uniform way and drivers using it need not worry about where the properties come from as long as the platform firmware (either DT or ACPI) makes them available. It covers both devices and "bare" device node objects without struct device representation as that turns out to be necessary in some cases. This has been in the works for quite a few months (and development cycles) and has been approved by all of the relevant maintainers. On top of that, some drivers are switched over to the new interface (at25, leds-gpio, gpio_keys_polled) and some additional changes are made to the core GPIO subsystem to allow device drivers to manipulate GPIOs in the "canonical" way on platforms that provide GPIO information in their ACPI tables, but don't assign names to GPIO lines (in which case the driver needs to do that on the basis of what it knows about the device in question). That also has been approved by the GPIO core maintainers and the rfkill driver is now going to use it. Second is support for hardware P-states in the intel_pstate driver. It uses CPUID to detect whether or not the feature is supported by the processor in which case it will be enabled by default. However, it can be disabled entirely from the kernel command line if necessary. Next is support for a platform firmware interface based on ACPI operation regions used by the PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) chips on the Intel Baytrail-T and Baytrail-T-CR platforms. That interface is used for manipulating power resources and for thermal management: sensor temperature reporting, trip point setting and so on. Also the ACPI core is now going to support the _DEP configuration information in a limited way. Basically, _DEP it supposed to reflect off-the-hierarchy dependencies between devices which may be very indirect, like when AML for one device accesses locations in an operation region handled by another device's driver (usually, the device depended on this way is a serial bus or GPIO controller). The support added this time is sufficient to make the ACPI battery driver work on Asus T100A, but it is general enough to be able to cover some other use cases in the future. Finally, we have a new cpufreq driver for the Loongson1B processor. In addition to the above, there are fixes and cleanups all over the place as usual and a traditional ACPICA update to a recent upstream release. As far as the fixes go, the ACPI LPSS (Low-power Subsystem) driver for Intel platforms should be able to handle power management of the DMA engine correctly, the cpufreq-dt driver should interact with the thermal subsystem in a better way and the ACPI backlight driver should handle some more corner cases, among other things. On top of the ACPICA update there are fixes for race conditions in the ACPICA's interrupt handling code which might lead to some random and strange looking failures on some systems. In the cleanups department the most visible part is the series of commits targeted at getting rid of the CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME configuration option. That was triggered by a discussion regarding the generic power domains code during which we realized that trying to support certain combinations of PM config options was painful and not really worth it, because nobody would use them in production anyway. For this reason, we decided to make CONFIG_PM_SLEEP select CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME and that lead to the conclusion that the latter became redundant and CONFIG_PM could be used instead of it. The material here makes that replacement in a major part of the tree, but there will be at least one more batch of that in the second part of the merge window. Specifics: - Support for retrieving device properties information from ACPI _DSD device configuration objects and a unified device properties interface for device drivers (and subsystems) on top of that. As stated above, this works with Device Trees and ACPI and allows device drivers to be written in a platform firmware (DT or ACPI) agnostic way. The at25, leds-gpio and gpio_keys_polled drivers are now going to use this new interface and the GPIO subsystem is additionally modified to allow device drivers to assign names to GPIO resources returned by ACPI _CRS objects (in case _DSD is not present or does not provide the expected data). The changes in this set are mostly from Mika Westerberg, Rafael J Wysocki, Aaron Lu, and Darren Hart with some fixes from others (Fabio Estevam, Geert Uytterhoeven). - Support for Hardware Managed Performance States (HWP) as described in Volume 3, section 14.4, of the Intel SDM in the intel_pstate driver. CPUID is used to detect whether or not the feature is supported by the processor. If supported, it will be enabled automatically unless the intel_pstate=no_hwp switch is present in the kernel command line. From Dirk Brandewie. - New Intel Broadwell-H ID for intel_pstate (Dirk Brandewie). - Support for firmware interface based on ACPI operation regions used by the PMIC chips on the Intel Baytrail-T and Baytrail-T-CR platforms for power resource control and thermal management (Aaron Lu). - Limited support for retrieving off-the-hierarchy dependencies between devices from ACPI _DEP device configuration objects and deferred probing support for the ACPI battery driver based on the _DEP information to make that driver work on Asus T100A (Lan Tianyu). - New cpufreq driver for the Loongson1B processor (Kelvin Cheung). - ACPICA update to upstream revision 20141107 which only affects tools (Bob Moore). - Fixes for race conditions in the ACPICA's interrupt handling code and in the ACPI code related to system suspend and resume (Lv Zheng and Rafael J Wysocki). - ACPI core fix for an RCU-related issue in the ioremap() regions management code that slowed down significantly after CPUs had been allowed to enter idle states even if they'd had RCU callbakcs queued and triggered some problems in certain proprietary graphics driver (and elsewhere). The fix replaces synchronize_rcu() in that code with synchronize_rcu_expedited() which makes the issue go away. From Konstantin Khlebnikov. - ACPI LPSS (Low-Power Subsystem) driver fix to handle power management of the DMA engine included into the LPSS correctly. The problem is that the DMA engine doesn't have ACPI PM support of its own and it simply is turned off when the last LPSS device having ACPI PM support goes into D3cold. To work around that, the PM domain used by the ACPI LPSS driver is redesigned so at least one device with ACPI PM support will be on as long as the DMA engine is in use. From Andy Shevchenko. - ACPI backlight driver fix to avoid using it on "Win8-compatible" systems where it doesn't work and where it was used by default by mistake (Aaron Lu). - Assorted minor ACPI core fixes and cleanups from Tomasz Nowicki, Sudeep Holla, Huang Rui, Hanjun Guo, Fabian Frederick, and Ashwin Chaugule (mostly related to the upcoming ARM64 support). - Intel RAPL (Running Average Power Limit) power capping driver fixes and improvements including new processor IDs (Jacob Pan). - Generic power domains modification to power up domains after attaching devices to them to meet the expectations of device drivers and bus types assuming devices to be accessible at probe time (Ulf Hansson). - Preliminary support for controlling device clocks from the generic power domains core code and modifications of the ARM/shmobile platform to use that feature (Ulf Hansson). - Assorted minor fixes and cleanups of the generic power domains core code (Ulf Hansson, Geert Uytterhoeven). - Assorted minor fixes and cleanups of the device clocks control code in the PM core (Geert Uytterhoeven, Grygorii Strashko). - Consolidation of device power management Kconfig options by making CONFIG_PM_SLEEP select CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME and removing the latter which is now redundant (Rafael J Wysocki and Kevin Hilman). PM / Kconfig: Do not select PM directly from Kconfig files
It is not valid to select CONFIG_PM directly without selecting CONFIG_PM_SLEEP or CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME too, because that breaks dependencies (ia64 does that) and it is not necessary to select CONFIG_PM directly if CONFIG_PM_SLEEP or CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME is selected, because CONFIG_PM will be set automatically in that case (sh does that). cpuidle: Invert CPUIDLE_FLAG_TIME_VALID logic
The only place where the time is invalid is when the ACPI_CSTATE_FFH entry method is not set. Otherwise for all the drivers, the time can be correctly measured. Instead of duplicating the CPUIDLE_FLAG_TIME_VALID flag in all the drivers for all the states, just invert the logic by replacing it by the flag CPUIDLE_FLAG_TIME_INVALID, hence we can set this flag only for the acpi idle driver, remove the former flag from all the drivers and invert the logic with this flag in the different governor. Pull audit updates from Eric Paris: "So this change across a whole bunch of arches really solves one basic problem. We want to audit when seccomp is killing a process. seccomp hooks in before the audit syscall entry code. audit_syscall_entry took as an argument the arch of the given syscall. Since the arch is part of what makes a syscall number meaningful it's an important part of the record, but it isn't available when seccomp shoots the syscall... For most arch's we have a better way to get the arch (syscall_get_arch) So the solution was two fold: Implement syscall_get_arch() everywhere there is audit which didn't have it. Use syscall_get_arch() in the seccomp audit code. Having syscall_get_arch() everywhere meant it was a useless flag on the stack and we could get rid of it for the typical syscall entry. The other changes inside the audit system aren't grand, fixed some records that had invalid spaces. Better locking around the task comm field. Removing some dead functions and structs. This is the bulk of GPIO changes for the v3.18 development
cycle: - Increase the default ARCH_NR_GPIO from 256 to 512. This was done to avoid having a custom <asm/gpio.h> header for the x86 architecture - GPIO is custom and complicated enough as it is already! We want to move to a radix to store the descriptors going forward, and finally get rid of this fixed array size altogether. - Endgame patching of the gpio_remove() semantics initiated by Abdoulaye Berthe. It is not accepted by the system that the removal of a GPIO chip fails during e.g. reboot or shutdown, and therefore the return value has now painfully been refactored away. For special cases like GPIO expanders on a hot-pluggable bus like USB, we may later add some gpiochip_try_remove() call, but for the cases we have now, return values are moot. - Some incremental refactoring of the gpiolib core and ACPI GPIO library for more descriptor usage. - Refactor the chained IRQ handler set-up method to handle also threaded, nested interrupts and set up the parent IRQ correctly. Switch STMPE and TC3589x drivers to use this registration method. - Add a .irq_not_threaded flag to the struct gpio_chip, so that also GPIO expanders that block but are still not using threaded IRQ handlers. - New drivers for the ARM64 X-Gene SoC GPIO controller. - The syscon GPIO driver has been improved to handle the "DSP GPIO" found on the TI Keystone 2 SoC:s. - ADNP driver switched to use gpiolib irqchip helpers. - Refactor the DWAPB driver to support being instantiated from and MFD cell (platform device). - Incremental feature improvement in the Zynq, MCP23S08, DWAPB, OMAP, Xilinx and Crystalcove drivers. - Various minor fixes. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 iQIcBAABAgAGBQJUNOr0AAoJEEEQszewGV1z9toP/2ISXRnsi3+jlqVmEGm/y6EA PPwJOiYnOhZR2/fTCHIF0PNbIi9pw7xKnzxttYCu4uCz7geHX+FfTwUZ2/KWMfqi ZJ9kEoOVVKzKjmL/m2a2tO4IRSBHqJ8dF3yvaNjS3AL7EDfG6F5STErQurdLEynK SeJZ2OwM/vRFCac6F7oDlqAUTu3xYGbVD8+zI0H0V/ReocosFlEwcbl2S8ctDWUd h98M+gY+A8rxkvVMnmQ/k7rUTme/glDQ3z5xVx+uHbS2/a5M1jSM/71cXE6YnSrR it0CK7CHomq2RzHsKf7oH7GD4kFkukMwFKeMoqz75JWz3352VZPTF53chCIqRSgO hrgGwZ7WF6pUUUhsn1ZdZsnBPA2Fou2uwslyLSAiE+OYEH2/NSVIOUcorjQcWqU/ 0Kix5yb8X1ZzRMhR+TVrTD5V0jguqp2buXq+0P2XlU6MoO2vy7iNf2eXvPg8sF8C anjTCKgmkzy7eyT2uzfDaNZAyfSBKb1TiKiR9zA0SRChJkCi1ErJEXDGeHiptvSA +D2k68Ils2LqsvdrnEd2XvVFMllh0iq7b+16o7D+Els0WRbnHpfYCaqfOuF5F4U0 SmeyI0ruawNDc5e9EBKXstt0/R9AMOetyTcTu29U2ZVo90zGaT1ofT8+R1jJ0kGa bPARJZrgecgv1E9Qnnnd =8InA -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'gpio-v3.18-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-gpio Pull GPIO changes from Linus Walleij: "This is the bulk of GPIO changes for the v3.18 development cycle: - Increase the default ARCH_NR_GPIO from 256 to 512. ARCH: AUDIT: audit_syscall_entry() should not require the arch
We have a function where the arch can be queried, syscall_get_arch(). So rather than have every single piece of arch specific code use and/or duplicate syscall_get_arch(), just have the audit code use the syscall_get_arch() code. SH: define syscall_get_arch() for superh
This patch defines syscall_get_arch() for the superh platform. It does so in both syscall_32.h and syscall_64.h. I'm not certain if the implementation in syscall_64.h couldn't just be used in syscall.h as I can't really track the setting of CONFIG_64BIT... This way is safe, but we might be able to combine these if a superh person were able to review... sh: get_user_pages_fast() must flush cache
This patch avoids fuse hangs on sh4 by flushing the cache on get_user_pages_fast(). This is not necessary a good thing to do, but get_user_pages() does this, so get_user_pages_fast() should too. Please note the patch for mips arch that addresses the similar problem: https://kernel.googlesource.com/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ralf/linux/+/linux-3.4.50%5E!/#F0 They basically simply disable get_user_pages_fast() at all, using a fall-back to get_user_pages(). kexec: remove CONFIG_KEXEC dependency on crypto
New system call depends on crypto. As it did not have a separate config option, CONFIG_KEXEC was modified to select CRYPTO and CRYPTO_SHA256. kexec: load and relocate purgatory at kernel load time
Load purgatory code in RAM and relocate it based on the location. Relocation code has been inspired by module relocation code and purgatory relocation code in kexec-tools. Also compute the checksums of loaded kexec segments and store them in purgatory. Arch independent code provides this functionality so that arch dependent bootloaders can make use of it. Helper functions are provided to get/set symbol values in purgatory which are used by bootloaders later to set things like stack and entry point of second kernel etc. Signed-off-by: Vivek Goyal <vgoyal@redhat.com> Cc: Borislav Petkov <bp@suse.de> Cc: Michael Kerrisk <mtk.manpages@gmail.com> Cc: Yinghai Lu <yinghai@kernel.org> Cc: Eric Biederman <ebiederm@xmission.com> Cc: H. arm64,ia64,ppc,s390,sh,tile,um,x86,mm: remove default gate area
The core mm code will provide a default gate area based on FIXADDR_USER_START and FIXADDR_USER_END if !defined(__HAVE_ARCH_GATE_AREA) && defined(AT_SYSINFO_EHDR). This default is only useful for ia64. arm64, ppc, s390, sh, tile, 64-bit UML, and x86_32 have their own code just to disable it. arm, 32-bit UML, and x86_64 have gate areas, but they have their own implementations. This gets rid of the default and moves the code into ia64. This should save some code on architectures without a gate area: it's now possible to inline the gate_area functions in the default case. sound updates for 3.17-rc1
There've been many updates in ASoC side at this time, especially the framework enhancement for multiple CODECs on a single DAI and more componentization works. This pull request has a lot of work done. The main thing is the changes
to the ftrace function callback infrastructure. It's introducing a way to allow different functions to call directly different trampolines instead of all calling the same "mcount" one. The only user of this for now is the function graph tracer, which always had a different trampoline, but the function tracer trampoline was called and did basically nothing, and then the function graph tracer trampoline was called. The difference now, is that the function graph tracer trampoline can be called directly if a function is only being traced by the function graph trampoline. If function tracing is also happening on the same function, the old way is still done. The accounting for this takes up more memory when function graph tracing is activated, as it needs to keep track of which functions it uses. I have a new way that wont take as much memory, but it's not ready yet for this merge window, and will have to wait for the next one. Another big change was the removal of the ftrace_start/stop() calls that were used by the suspend/resume code that stopped function tracing when entering into suspend and resume paths. The stop of ftrace was done because there was some function that would crash the system if one called smp_processor_id()! The stop/start was a big hammer to solve the issue at the time, which was when ftrace was first introduced into Linux. Now ftrace has better infrastructure to debug such issues, and I found the problem function and labeled it with "notrace" and function tracing can now safely be activated all the way down into the guts of suspend and resume. Other changes include clean ups of uprobe code. Clean up of the trace_seq() code. And other various small fixes and clean ups to ftrace and tracing. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 iQEcBAABAgAGBQJT35zXAAoJEKQekfcNnQGuOz0H/38zqM0nLFhrgvz3EPk2UOjn xqpX8qyb2V7TJZL+IqeXU2a5cQZl5ba0D4WtBGpxbTae3CJYiuQ87iKUNFoH0om5 FDpn80igb368k8V3qRdRsziKVCCf0XBd/NkHJXc0ZkfXGyzB2Ga4bBxALxp2gj9y bnO+vKo6+tWYKG4hyQb4P3LRXUrK8/LWEsPr39cH2QH1Rdj69Lx9CgrCdUVJmwcb Bj8hEiLXL/RYCFNn79A3wNTUvW0rG/AOIf4SLqXtasSRZ0ToaU0ZyDnrNv+0Ol47 rX8tSk+LfXchL9hpIvjCf1vlAYq3pO02favteR/jip3lx/dTjEDE4RJ9qtJzZ4Q= =fwQY -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'trace-3.17' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rostedt/linux-trace Pull tracing updates from Steven Rostedt: "This pull request has a lot of work done. sh: also try passing -m4-nofpu for SH2A builds
When compiling a SH2A kernel (e.g. se7206_defconfig or rsk7203_defconfig) using sh4-linux-gcc, linking fails with: net/built-in.o: In function `__sk_run_filter': net/core/filter.c:566: undefined reference to `__fpscr_values' net/core/filter.c:269: undefined reference to `__fpscr_values' ... net/built-in.o:net/core/filter.c:580: more undefined references to `__fpscr_values' follow This happens because sh4-linux-gcc doesn't support the "-m2a-nofpu", which is thus filtered out by "$(call cc-option, ...)". As compiling using sh4-linux-gcc is useful for compile coverage, also try passing "-m4-nofpu" (which is presumably filtered out when using a real sh2a-linux toolchain) to disable the generation of FPU instructions and references to __fpscr_values[]. sh: ftrace: Add call to ftrace_graph_is_dead() in function graph code
ftrace_stop() is going away as it disables parts of function tracing that affects users that should not be affected. But ftrace_graph_stop() is built on ftrace_stop(). Here's another example of killing all of function tracing because something went wrong with function graph tracing. Instead of disabling all users of function tracing on function graph error, disable only function graph tracing. To do this, the arch code must call ftrace_graph_is_dead() before it implements function graph. Cc: Paul Mundt <lethal@linux-sh.org> Signed-off-by: Steven Rostedt <rostedt@goodmis.org> |

sys_sgetmask/sys_ssetmask: add CONFIG_SGETMASK_SYSCALL
sys_sgetmask and sys_ssetmask are obsolete system calls no longer supported in libc. sh: Replace __get_cpu_var uses
__get_cpu_var() is used for multiple purposes in the kernel source. One of them is address calculation via the form &__get_cpu_var(x). This calculates the address for the instance of the percpu variable of the current processor based on an offset. Other use cases are for storing and retrieving data from the current processors percpu area. __get_cpu_var() can be used as an lvalue when writing data or on the right side of an assignment. __get_cpu_var() is defined as : #define __get_cpu_var(var) (*this_cpu_ptr(&(var))) __get_cpu_var() always only does an address determination. However, store and retrieve operations could use a segment prefix (or global register on other platforms) to avoid the address calculation. this_cpu_write() and this_cpu_read() can directly take an offset into a percpu area and use optimized assembly code to read and write per cpu variables. This patch converts __get_cpu_var into either an explicit address calculation using this_cpu_ptr() or into a use of this_cpu operations that use the offset. Thereby address calculations are avoided and less registers are used when code is generated. At the end of the patch set all uses of __get_cpu_var have been removed so the macro is removed too. The patch set includes passes over all arches as well. Once these operations are used throughout then specialized macros can be defined in non -x86 arches as well in order to optimize per cpu access by f.e. using a global register that may be set to the per cpu base. Transformations done to __get_cpu_var() 1. Determine the address of the percpu instance of the current processor. DEFINE_PER_CPU(int, y); int *x = &__get_cpu_var(y); Converts to int *x = this_cpu_ptr(&y); 2. Same as #1 but this time an array structure is involved. DEFINE_PER_CPU(int, y[20]); int *x = __get_cpu_var(y); Converts to int *x = this_cpu_ptr(y); 3. Retrieve the content of the current processors instance of a per cpu variable. DEFINE_PER_CPU(int, y); int x = __get_cpu_var(y) Converts to int x = __this_cpu_read(y); 4. Retrieve the content of a percpu struct DEFINE_PER_CPU(struct mystruct, y); struct mystruct x = __get_cpu_var(y); Converts to memcpy(&x, this_cpu_ptr(&y), sizeof(x)); 5. Assignment to a per cpu variable DEFINE_PER_CPU(int, y) __get_cpu_var(y) = x; Converts to __this_cpu_write(y, x); 6. Increment/Decrement etc of a per cpu variable DEFINE_PER_CPU(int, y); __get_cpu_var(y)++ Converts to __this_cpu_inc(y) Signed-off-by: Christoph Lameter <cl@linux.com> Tested-by: Geert Uytterhoeven <geert@linux-m68k.org> [compilation only] Cc: Paul Mundt <lethal@linux-sh.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> |

hugetlb: restrict hugepage_migration_support() to x86_64
Currently hugepage migration is available for all archs which support pmd-level hugepage, but testing is done only for x86_64 and there're bugs for other archs. So to avoid breaking such archs, this patch limits the availability strictly to x86_64 until developers of other archs get interested in enabling this feature. Simply disabling hugepage migration on non-x86_64 archs is not enough to fix the reported problem where sys_move_pages() hits the BUG_ON() in follow_page(FOLL_GET), so let's fix this by checking if hugepage migration is supported in vma_migratable(). USB driver patches for 3.16-rc1
Here is the big USB driver pull request for 3.16-rc1. Nothing huge here, but lots of little things in the USB core, and in lots of drivers. Hopefully the USB power management will be work better now that it has been reworked to do per-port power control dynamically. There's also a raft of gadget driver updates and fixes, CONFIG_USB_DEBUG is finally gone now that everything has been converted over to the dynamic debug inteface, the last hold-out drivers were cleaned up and the config option removed. There were also other minor things all through the drivers/usb/ tree, the shortlog shows this pretty well. All have been in linux-next, including the very last patch, which came from linux-next to fix a build issue on some platforms. ARM: SoC board support updates for 3.16
The bulk of this branch is updates for Renesas Shmobile. They are still doing some enablement for classic boards first, and then come up with DT bindings when they've had a chance to learn more about the hardware. Not necessarily a bad way to go about it, and they're looking at moving some of the temporary board code resulting from it to drivers/staging instead to avoid the churn here. As a result of the shmobile clock cleanups, we end up merging quite a bit of SH code here as well. We ended up merging it here instead of in the cleanup branch due to the other board changes depending on it. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.14 (GNU/Linux) iQIcBAABAgAGBQJTjNClAAoJEIwa5zzehBx3Q7wP+wYzWTAU0+3BnnjJpQM79hsX 1hP89RaM6DEyTf6PiL/AKOHsnDponUhNzZu1W5FvNG6cFVenh/nxbmO65FKX9CrY Ap2pkQW+/IcpmIKZ+Hln2bkCc54a6yPouK+5pd9W14X5TtqNmLbdh1qhoq9UjFTo zgLfhch5tyNqfpNOj0vFsmvTw0ZGJ0Neq6olRqQbXmyAaRaWzDa64lmEKVupMdk7 2Fh/8jeXlVlryi7p7CvNoAmZEMm7+We5ZMVsQXLk8b9zcwuCWK0DZzNW4DnRCB1d lsNM/Sygi3Y5zRj2XogNANVhNDIih0f50FX7uuKtmevWNJE9n4To7uFUMTk/3zBt 1hvJLL8w4WHhzkg5v5nFsiCTx65pFaTD/LocPj8lhQ1AYzUvWN5sKPxW0uC1lvJ9 Unlwdc0C4EWs3yq6hAPUZS2eB7owmzNUWdjdkgKfdc74u5RnRay0pUmbRMJm2l20 OKoDSwaluQZUeHrxPnTSLdgpkBbPRn9M5DbswEQsuPyI6yROgCRxaRQ4XcpM93dV 4obCF+fOvX6dtsdIUBCtdhvmJ/iHqhQlPLc2avpt2gyti7eWjQkt5it12hjjOF6A DVBdNHv215EEgvB0MbPJvFVKBLw4boxdeBx+FqMQCqvAbqefHo4gcQZcsUGAv/pX zJ8jgkYhlt7XTd+6GlJu =lWof -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'boards-for-3.16' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm/arm-soc into next Pull ARM SoC board support updates from Olof Johansson: "The bulk of this branch is updates for Renesas Shmobile. PCI: Turn pcibios_penalize_isa_irq() into a weak function
pcibios_penalize_isa_irq() is only implemented by x86 now, and legacy ISA is not used by some architectures. Make pcibios_penalize_isa_irq() a __weak function to simplify the code. This removes the need for new platforms to add stub implementations of pcibios_penalize_isa_irq(). ftrace: Make CALLER_ADDRx macros more generic
Most archs with HAVE_ARCH_CALLER_ADDR have pretty much the same definitions of CALLER_ADDRx(n). Instead of duplicating the code for all the archs, define a ftrace_return_address0() and ftrace_return_address(n) that can be overwritten by the archs if they need to do something different. Instead of 7 macros in every arch, we now only have at most 2 (and actually only 1 as ftrace_return_address0() should be the same for all archs). The CALLER_ADDRx(n) will now be defined in linux/ftrace.h and use the ftrace_return_address*(n?) macros. This removes a lot of the duplicate code. sh/PCI: Pass GAPSPCI_DMA_BASE CPU & bus address to dma_declare_coherent_memory()
dma_declare_coherent_memory() needs both the CPU physical address and the bus address of the device memory. They are the same on this platform, but in general we should use pcibios_resource_to_bus() to account for any address translation done by the PCI host bridge. This makes no difference on Dreamcast, but is safer if the usage is copied to future drivers. mm: split 'tlb_flush_mmu()' into tlb flushing and memory freeing parts
The mmu-gather operation 'tlb_flush_mmu()' has done two things: the actual tlb flush operation, and the batched freeing of the pages that the TLB entries pointed at. This splits the operation into separate phases, so that the forced batched flushing done by zap_pte_range() can now do the actual TLB flush while still holding the page table lock, but delay the batched freeing of all the pages to after the lock has been dropped. This in turn allows us to avoid a race condition between set_page_dirty() (as called by zap_pte_range() when it finds a dirty shared memory pte) and page_mkclean(): because we now flush all the dirty page data from the TLB's while holding the pte lock, page_mkclean() will be held up walking the (recently cleaned) page tables until after the TLB entries have been flushed from all CPU's.
