Sam Ravnborg 2a1658bf92 drm/drm_fb_helper: fix fbdev with sparc64
Recent kernels have been reported to panic using the bochs_drm
framebuffer under qemu-system-sparc64 which was bisected to
commit 7a0483ac4f ("drm/bochs: switch to generic drm fbdev emulation").

The backtrace indicates that the shadow framebuffer copy in
drm_fb_helper_dirty_blit_real() is trying to access the real
framebuffer using a virtual address rather than use an IO access
typically implemented using a physical (ASI_PHYS) access on SPARC.

The fix is to replace the memcpy with memcpy_toio() from io.h.

memcpy_toio() uses writeb() where the original fbdev code
used sbus_memcpy_toio(). The latter uses sbus_writeb().

The difference between writeb() and sbus_memcpy_toio() is
that writeb() writes bytes in little-endian, where sbus_writeb() writes
bytes in big-endian. As endian does not matter for byte writes they are
the same. So we can safely use memcpy_toio() here.

Note that this only fixes bochs, in general fbdev helpers still have
issues with mixing up system memory and __iomem space. Fixing that will
require a lot more work.

v3:
  - Improved changelog (Daniel)
  - Added FIXME to fbdev_use_iomem (Daniel)

v2:
  - Added missing __iomem cast (kernel test robot)
  - Made changelog readable and fix typos (Mark)
  - Add flag to select iomem - and set it in the bochs driver

Daniel Vetter dc5bdb68b5 drm/fb-helper: Fix vt restore
In the past we had a pile of hacks to orchestrate access between fbdev
emulation and native kms clients. We've tried to streamline this, by
always preferring the kms side above fbdev calls when a drm master
exists, because drm master controls access to the display resources.

Unfortunately this breaks existing userspace, specifically Xorg. When
exiting Xorg first restores the console to text mode using the KDSET
ioctl on the vt. This does nothing, because a drm master is still
around. Then it drops the drm master status, which again does nothing,
because logind is keeping additional drm fd open to be able to
orchestrate vt switches. In the past this is the point where fbdev was
restored, as part of the ->lastclose hook on the drm side.

Now to fix this regression we don't want to go back to letting fbdev
restore things whenever it feels like, or to the pile of hacks we've
had before. Instead try and go with a minimal exception to make the
KDSET case work again, and nothing else.

This means that if userspace does a KDSET call when switching between
graphical compositors, there will be some flickering with fbcon
showing up for a bit. But a) that's not a regression and b) userspace
can fix it by improving the vt switching dance - logind should have
all the information it needs.

While pondering all this I'm also wondering wheter we should have a
SWITCH_MASTER ioctl to allow race-free master status handover. But
that's for another day.

v2: Somehow forgot to cc all the fbdev people.

v3: Fix typo Alex spotted.

Linus Torvalds 081096d98b TTY/Serial driver updates for 5.8-rc1
Here is the tty and serial driver updates for 5.8-rc1

 Nothing huge at all, just a lot of little serial driver fixes, updates
 for new devices and features, and other small things. Full details are
 in the shortlog.

 Note, you will get a conflict merging with your tree in the
 Documentation/devicetree/bindings/serial/rs485.yaml file, but it should
 be pretty obvious what to do. If not, I'm sure Rob will clean it all up
 afterwards :)

 All of these have been in linux-next with no issues for a while.

Hans de Goede 1a8bf67df6 drm/fb-helper: Add TODO for making drm_fb_helper_alloc_fbi fill apertures
Currently drivers using drm_fbdev_generic_setup() end up with a single
empty aperture in their fb_info struct.

Not having the proper info in the apertures list causes
register_framebuffer to not remove conflicting framebuffers,
which some drivers currently workaround by manually calling
drm_fb_helper_remove_conflicting_pci_framebuffers().

Merge v5.6-rc2 into drm-misc-next

Daniel Vetter 64914da24e drm/fbdev-helper: don't force restores
Instead check for master status, in case we've raced.

This is the last exception to the general rule that we restore fbcon
only when there's no master active. Compositors are supposed to drop
their master status before they switch to a different console back to
text mode (or just switch to text mode directly, without a vt switch).

This is known to break some subtests of kms_fbcon_fbt in igt, but they're
just wrong - it does a graphics/text mode switch for the vt without
updating the master status.

Also add a comment to the drm_client->restore hook that this is expected
going forward from all clients (there's currently just one).

v2: Also drop the force in pan_display

v3: Restore the _force to pan_display, this actually means _locked in that
path. Spotted by Noralf.

Geert Uytterhoeven f30e27779d drm/fb-helper: Round up bits_per_pixel if possible
When userspace requests a video mode parameter value that is not
supported, frame buffer device drivers should round it up to a supported
value, if possible, instead of just rejecting it. This allows
applications to quickly scan for supported video modes.

Currently this rule is not followed for the number of bits per pixel,
causing e.g. "fbset -depth N" to fail, if N is smaller than the current
number of bits per pixel.

Fix this by returning an error only if bits per pixel is too large, and
setting it to the current value otherwise.

See also Documentation/fb/framebuffer.rst, Section 2 (Programmer's View
of /dev/fb*").

Thomas Zimmermann cf1ca9aeb9 drm/fb-helper: Map DRM client buffer only when required
This patch changes DRM clients to not map the buffer by default. The
buffer, like any buffer object, should be mapped and unmapped when
needed.

An unmapped buffer object can be evicted to system memory and does
not consume video ram until displayed. This allows to use generic fbdev
emulation with drivers for low-memory devices, such as ast and mgag200.

This change affects the generic framebuffer console. HW-based consoles
map their console buffer once and keep it mapped. Userspace can mmap this
buffer into its address space. The shadow-buffered framebuffer console
only needs the buffer object to be mapped during updates. While not being
updated from the shadow buffer, the buffer object can remain unmapped.
Userspace will always mmap the shadow buffer.

Noralf Trønnes d81294afee drm/fb-helper: Remove drm_fb_helper_crtc
struct drm_fb_helper_crtc is now just a wrapper around drm_mode_set so
use that directly instead and attach it as a modeset array onto
drm_client_dev. drm_fb_helper will use this array to store its modesets
which means it will always initialize a drm_client, but it will not
register the client (callbacks) unless it's the generic fbdev emulation.

Code will later be moved to drm_client, so add code there in a new file
drm_client_modeset.c with MIT license to match drm_fb_helper.c.

The modeset connector array size is hardcoded for the cloned case to avoid
having to pass in a value from the driver. A value of 8 is chosen to err
on the safe side. This means that the max connector argument for
drm_fb_helper_init() and drm_fb_helper_fbdev_setup() isn't used anymore,
a todo entry for this is added.

In pan_display_atomic() restore_fbdev_mode_force() is used instead of
restore_fbdev_mode_atomic() because that one will later become internal
to drm_client_modeset.

Locking order:
1. drm_fb_helper->lock
2. drm_master_internal_acquire
3. drm_client_dev->modeset_mutex

v6: Improve commit message (Sam Ravnborg)

v3:
- Use full drm_client_init/release for the modesets (Daniel Vetter)
- drm_client_for_each_modeset: use lockdep_assert_held (Daniel Vetter)
- Hook up to Documentation/gpu/drm-client.rst (Daniel Vetter)

v2:
- Add modesets array to drm_client (Daniel Vetter)
- Use a new file for the modeset code (Daniel Vetter)

drm/fourcc: Pass the format_info pointer to drm_format_plane_cpp
So far, the drm_format_plane_cpp function was operating on the format's
fourcc and was doing a lookup to retrieve the drm_format_info structure and
return the cpp.

However, this is inefficient since in most cases, we will have the
drm_format_info pointer already available so we shouldn't have to perform a
new lookup. Some drm_fourcc functions also already operate on the
drm_format_info pointer for that reason, so the API is quite inconsistent
there.

Let's follow the latter pattern and remove the extra lookup while being a
bit more consistent. In order to be extra consistent, also rename that
function to drm_format_info_plane_cpp and to a static function in the
header to match the current policy.

Noralf Trønnes 03a9606e7f drm/fb-helper: Avoid race with DRM userspace
drm_fb_helper_is_bound() is used to check if DRM userspace is in control.
This is done by looking at the fb on the primary plane. By the time
fb-helper gets around to committing, it's possible that the facts have
changed.

Avoid this race by holding the drm_device->master_mutex lock while
committing. When DRM userspace does its first open, it will now wait
until fb-helper is done. The helper will stay away if there's a master.

Two igt tests fail with the new 'bail out if master' rule. Work around
this by relaxing this rule for drm_fb_helper_restore_fbdev_mode_unlocked()
until the tests have been fixed. Add todo entry for this.

Locking rule: Always take the fb-helper lock first.

v5: drm_fb_helper_restore_fbdev_mode_unlocked(): Use
    restore_fbdev_mode_force()

v2:
- Remove drm_fb_helper_is_bound() (Daniel Vetter)
- No need to check fb_helper->dev->master in
  drm_fb_helper_single_fb_probe(), restore_fbdev_mode() has the check.
