sched/headers: Prepare to remove the <linux/mm_types.h> dependency from <linux/sched.h>
Update code that relied on sched.h including various MM types for them. This will allow us to remove the <linux/mm_types.h> include from <linux/sched.h>. sched/headers: Prepare for new header dependencies before moving code to <linux/sched/task_stack.h>
We are going to split <linux/sched/task_stack.h> out of <linux/sched.h>, which will have to be picked up from other headers and a couple of .c files. Create a trivial placeholder <linux/sched/task_stack.h> file that just maps to <linux/sched.h> to make this patch obviously correct and bisectable. kprobes: move kprobe declarations to asm-generic/kprobes.h
Often all is needed is these small helpers, instead of compiler.h or a full kprobes.h. This is important for asm helpers, in fact even some asm/kprobes.h make use of these helpers... instead just keep a generic asm file with helpers useful for asm code with the least amount of clutter as possible. Likewise we need now to also address what to do about this file for both when architectures have CONFIG_HAVE_KPROBES, and when they do not. Then for when architectures have CONFIG_HAVE_KPROBES but have disabled CONFIG_KPROBES. Right now most asm/kprobes.h do not have guards against CONFIG_KPROBES, this means most architecture code cannot include asm/kprobes.h safely. Correct this and add guards for architectures missing them. Additionally provide architectures that not have kprobes support with the default asm-generic solution. This lets us force asm/kprobes.h on the header include/linux/kprobes.h always, but most importantly we can now safely include just asm/kprobes.h on architecture code without bringing the full kitchen sink of header files. Two architectures already provided a guard against CONFIG_KPROBES on its kprobes.h: sh, arch. The rest of the architectures needed gaurds added. We avoid including any not-needed headers on asm/kprobes.h unless kprobes have been enabled. In a subsequent atomic change we can try now to remove compiler.h from include/linux/kprobes.h. During this sweep I've also identified a few architectures defining a common macro needed for both kprobes and ftrace, that of the definition of the breakput instruction up. Some refer to this as BREAKPOINT_INSTRUCTION. This must be kept outside of the #ifdef CONFIG_KPROBES guard. This is a tree wide change and has been kept separate for that reason.
Bart Van Assche noted that the ib DMA mapping code was significantly similar enough to the core DMA mapping code that with a few changes it was possible to remove the IB DMA mapping code entirely and switch the RDMA stack to use the core DMA mapping code. This resulted in a nice set of cleanups, but touched the entire tree. This branch will be submitted separately to Linus at the end of the merge window as per normal practice for tree wide changes like this. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIcBAABAgAGBQJYo06oAAoJELgmozMOVy/d9Z8QALedWHdu98St1L0u2c8sxnR9 2zo/4sF5Vb9u7FpmdIX32L4SQ9s9KhPE8Qp8NtZLf9v10zlDebIRJDpXknXtKooV CAXxX4sxBXV27/UrhbZEfXiPrmm6ccJFyIfRnMU6NlMqh2AtAsRa5AC2/RMp8oUD Med97PFiF0o6TD22/UH1VFbRpX1zjaKyqm7a3as5sJfzNA+UGIZAQ7Euz8000DKZ xCgVLTEwS0FmOujtBkCst7xa9TjuqR1HLOB4DdGvAhP6BHdz2yamM7Qmh9NN+NEX 0BtjsuXomtn6j6AszGC+bpipCZh3NUigcwoFAARXCYFHibBvo4DPdFeGsraFgXdy 1+KyR8CCeQG3Aly5Vwr264RFPGkGpwMj8PsBlXgQVtrlg4rriaCzOJNmIIbfdADw ftqhxBOzReZw77aH2s+9p2ILRfcAmPqhynLvFGFo9LBvsik8LVso7YgZN0xGxwcI IjI/XGC8UskPVsIZBIYA6sl2bYzgOjtBIHiXjRrPlW3uhduIXLrvKFfLPP/5XLAG ehLXK+J0bfsyY9ClmlNS8oH/WdLhXAyy/KNmnj5bRRm9qg6BRJR3bsOBhZJODuoC XgEXFfF6/7roNESWxowff7pK0rTkRg/m/Pa4VQpeO+6NWHE7kgZhL6kyIp5nKcwS 3e7mgpcwC+3XfA/6vU3F =e0Si -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'for-next-dma_ops' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dledford/rdma Pull rdma DMA mapping updates from Doug Ledford: "Drop IB DMA mapping code and use core DMA code instead. mm: remove shmem_mapping() shmem_zero_setup() duplicates
Remove the prototypes for shmem_mapping() and shmem_zero_setup() from linux/mm.h, since they are already provided in linux/shmem_fs.h. But shmem_fs.h must then provide the inline stub for shmem_mapping() when CONFIG_SHMEM is not set, and a few more cfiles now need to #include it. sched/cputime: Remove generic asm headers
cputime_t is now only used by two architectures: * powerpc (when CONFIG_VIRT_CPU_ACCOUNTING_NATIVE=y) * s390 And since the core doesn't use it anymore, we don't need any arch support from the others. So we can remove their stub implementations. A final cleanup would be to provide an efficient pure arch implementation of cputime_to_nsec() for s390 and powerpc and finally remove include/linux/cputime.h . locking/core: Introduce cpu_relax_yield()
For spinning loops people do often use barrier() or cpu_relax(). For most architectures cpu_relax and barrier are the same, but on some architectures cpu_relax can add some latency. For example on power,sparc64 and arc, cpu_relax can shift the CPU towards other hardware threads in an SMT environment. On s390 cpu_relax does even more, it uses an hypercall to the hypervisor to give up the timeslice. In contrast to the SMT yielding this can result in larger latencies. In some places this latency is unwanted, so another variant "cpu_relax_lowlatency" was introduced. Before this is used in more and more places, lets revert the logic and provide a cpu_relax_yield that can be called in places where yielding is more important than latency. By default this is the same as cpu_relax on all architectures. nmi_backtrace: generate one-line reports for idle cpus
When doing an nmi backtrace of many cores, most of which are idle, the output is a little overwhelming and very uninformative. Suppress messages for cpus that are idling when they are interrupted and just emit one line, "NMI backtrace for N skipped: idling at pc 0xNNN". We do this by grouping all the cpuidle code together into a new .cpuidle.text section, and then checking the address of the interrupted PC to see if it lies within that section. This commit suitably tags x86 and tile idle routines, and only adds in the minimal framework for other architectures. microblaze/PCI: Add multidomain support for procfs
We create a procfs directory for every PCI bus. Previously, the directory name was just the bus number, so using the same bus number in different domains caused a kernel crash when we tried to create a duplicate directory. Make pci_proc_domain() return the domain number, so procfs directories for buses in domain 0 are named with just the bus number, and directories for buses in other domains include both the domain number and the bus number. ftrace: Add return address pointer to ftrace_ret_stack
Storing this value will help prevent unwinders from getting out of sync with the function graph tracer ret_stack. Now instead of needing a stateful iterator, they can compare the return address pointer to find the right ret_stack entry. Note that an array of 50 ftrace_ret_stack structs is allocated for every task. So when an arch implements this, it will add either 200 or 400 bytes of memory usage per task (depending on whether it's a 32-bit or 64-bit platform). dma-mapping: use unsigned long for dma_attrs
The dma-mapping core and the implementations do not change the DMA attributes passed by pointer. Thus the pointer can point to const data. However the attributes do not have to be a bitfield. Instead unsigned long will do fine: 1. This is just simpler. Both in terms of reading the code and setting attributes. Instead of initializing local attributes on the stack and passing pointer to it to dma_set_attr(), just set the bits. 2. It brings safeness and checking for const correctness because the attributes are passed by value. Semantic patches for this change (at least most of them): virtual patch virtual context @r@ identifier f, attrs; @@ f(..., - struct dma_attrs *attrs + unsigned long attrs , ...) { ... } @@ identifier r.f; @@ f(..., - NULL + 0 ) and // Options: --all-includes virtual patch virtual context @r@ identifier f, attrs; type t; @@ t f(..., struct dma_attrs *attrs); @@ identifier r.f; @@ f(..., - NULL + 0 ) Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/1468399300-5399-2-git-send-email-k.kozlowski@samsung.com Signed-off-by: Krzysztof Kozlowski <k.kozlowski@samsung.com> Acked-by: Vineet Gupta <vgupta@synopsys.com> Acked-by: Robin Murphy <robin.murphy@arm.com> Acked-by: Hans-Christian Noren Egtvedt <egtvedt@samfundet.no> Acked-by: Mark Salter <msalter@redhat.com> [c6x] Acked-by: Jesper Nilsson <jesper.nilsson@axis.com> [cris] Acked-by: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch> [drm] Reviewed-by: Bart Van Assche <bart.vanassche@sandisk.com> Acked-by: Joerg Roedel <jroedel@suse.de> [iommu] Acked-by: Fabien Dessenne <fabien.dessenne@st.com> [bdisp] Reviewed-by: Marek Szyprowski <m.szyprowski@samsung.com> [vb2-core] Acked-by: David Vrabel <david.vrabel@citrix.com> [xen] Acked-by: Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk <konrad.wilk@oracle.com> [xen swiotlb] Acked-by: Joerg Roedel <jroedel@suse.de> [iommu] Acked-by: Richard Kuo <rkuo@codeaurora.org> [hexagon] Acked-by: Geert Uytterhoeven <geert@linux-m68k.org> [m68k] Acked-by: Gerald Schaefer <gerald.schaefer@de.ibm.com> [s390] Acked-by: Bjorn Andersson <bjorn.andersson@linaro.org> Acked-by: Hans-Christian Noren Egtvedt <egtvedt@samfundet.no> [avr32] Acked-by: Vineet Gupta <vgupta@synopsys.com> [arc] Acked-by: Robin Murphy <robin.murphy@arm.com> [arm64 and dma-iommu] Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> |

signal: consolidate {TS,TLF}_RESTORE_SIGMASK code
In general, there's no need for the "restore sigmask" flag to live in ti->flags. alpha, ia64, microblaze, powerpc, sh, sparc (64-bit only), tile, and x86 use essentially identical alternative implementations, placing the flag in ti->status. Replace those optimized implementations with an equally good common implementation that stores it in a bitfield in struct task_struct and drop the custom implementations. Additional architectures can opt in by removing their TIF_RESTORE_SIGMASK defines. This is the bulk of GPIO changes for the v4.8 kernel cycle.
Core changes: - The big item is of course the completion of the character device ABI. It has now replaced and surpassed the former unmaintainable sysfs ABI: we can now hammer (bitbang) individual lines or sets of lines and read individual lines or sets of lines from userspace, and we can also register to listen to GPIO events from userspace. As a tie-in we have two new tools in tools/gpio: gpio-hammer and gpio-event-mon that illustrate the proper use of the new ABI. As someone said: the wild west days of GPIO are now over. - Continued to remove the pointless ARCH_[WANT_OPTIONAL|REQUIRE]_GPIOLIB Kconfig symbols. I'm patching hexagon, openrisc, powerpc, sh, unicore, ia64 and microblaze. These are either ACKed by their maintainers or patched anyways after a grace period and no response from maintainers. Some archs (ARM) come in from their trees, and others (x86) are still not fixed, so I might send a second pull request to root it out later in this merge window, or just defer to v4.9. - The GPIO tools are moved to the tools build system. New drivers: - New driver for the MAX77620/MAX20024. - New driver for the Intel Merrifield. - Enabled PCA953x for the TI PCA9536. - Enabled PCA953x for the Intel Edison. - Enabled R8A7792 in the RCAR driver. Driver improvements: - The STMPE and F7188x now supports the .get_direction() callback. - The Xilinx driver supports setting multiple lines at once. - ACPI support for the Vulcan GPIO controller. - The MMIO GPIO driver supports device tree probing. - The Acer One 10 is supported through the _DEP ACPI attribute. Cleanups: - A major cleanup of the OF/DT support code. It is way easier to read and understand now, probably this improves performance too. - Drop a few redundant .owner assignments. - Remove CLPS711x boardfile support: we are 100% DT. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 iQIcBAABAgAGBQJXlcT4AAoJEEEQszewGV1zACwQAK5SZr0F5c3QvYbJSiJBCGA7 MZKUYHnYoBpZaPKcFKoOXEM1WOvlABlh9U0y0xkL8gQ6giyKup1wYJJCuYgW29gL ny4r7Z8rs2Wm1ujL+FLAwuxIwCY3BnhUucp8YiSaHPBuKRfsHorFPvXiAgLZjNYC Qk3Q48xYW4inw9sy2BbMfsU3CZnkvgy5euooyy1ezwachRhuHdBy/MVCG012PC4s 0d6LGdByEx1uK4NeV7ssPys444M8unep2EWgy6Rvc1U+FmGA487EvL+X8nxTQTj3 uTMxA8nddmZTEeEIqhpRw/dPiFlWxPFwfWmNEre05gKLb/LUK2tgsUOnmIFgVUw/ t41IzdQNLQQZxmiXplZn6s5mAr2VNuTxkRq1CIl4SwQW+Uy4TU3q8aDPkKzsyhiR yw6o6ul0pQs8UZEggnht8ie6JiSnJ55ehI/nlRxpK/797Ff6Yp4FARs3ZtFnQDDu SWewnbRatZQ89lvy4BA7QCWeV4Scjk4k/e2HjUAFnkfMDaYqpi4vTdzwnWdVjd+F hMgu6VnkN3oSE7ZMrKJMh7b7h1uMnIwKBFWbkrlOEuhT1X0ZDsEOBv5juSBPYomN EOIJUyWqxn0ZfxeONbdbCPteYlfJF+TW/rE9LQMxS1nNwsqw2IQW6NCmrM9Nx6Fv FP++26nYMTSh82gwOYw3 =NwcK -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'gpio-v4.8-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-gpio Pull GPIO updates from Linus Walleij: "This is the bulk of GPIO changes for the v4.8 kernel cycle. I got overly ambitious with configureing lines as input for IRQ lines but it turns out that some controllers have their interrupt-enable and input-enabling in orthogonal settings so the assumption that all IRQ lines are input lines does not hold. clocksource/drivers/microblaze: Convert init function to return error
The init functions do not return any error. They behave as the following: - panic, thus leading to a kernel crash while another timer may work and make the system boot up correctly or - print an error and let the caller unaware if the state of the system Change that by converting the init functions to return an error conforming to the CLOCKSOURCE_OF_RET prototype. Proper error handling (rollback, errno value) will be changed later case by case, thus this change just return back an error or success in the init function. tree wide: get rid of __GFP_REPEAT for order-0 allocations part I
This is the third version of the patchset previously sent [1]. I have basically only rebased it on top of 4.7-rc1 tree and dropped "dm: get rid of superfluous gfp flags" which went through dm tree. I am sending it now because it is tree wide and chances for conflicts are reduced considerably when we want to target rc2. I plan to send the next step and rename the flag and move to a better semantic later during this release cycle so we will have a new semantic ready for 4.8 merge window hopefully. Motivation: While working on something unrelated I've checked the current usage of __GFP_REPEAT in the tree. It seems that a majority of the usage is and always has been bogus because __GFP_REPEAT has always been about costly high order allocations while we are using it for order-0 or very small orders very often. It seems that a big pile of them is just a copy&paste when a code has been adopted from one arch to another. I think it makes some sense to get rid of them because they are just making the semantic more unclear. Please note that GFP_REPEAT is documented as * __GFP_REPEAT: Try hard to allocate the memory, but the allocation attempt * _might_ fail. This depends upon the particular VM implementation. while !costly requests have basically nofail semantic. So one could reasonably expect that order-0 request with __GFP_REPEAT will not loop for ever. This is not implemented right now though. I would like to move on with __GFP_REPEAT and define a better semantic for it. $ git grep __GFP_REPEAT origin/master | wc -l 111 $ git grep __GFP_REPEAT | wc -l 36 So we are down to the third after this patch series. The remaining places really seem to be relying on __GFP_REPEAT due to large allocation requests. This still needs some double checking which I will do later after all the simple ones are sorted out. I am touching a lot of arch specific code here and I hope I got it right but as a matter of fact I even didn't compile test for some archs as I do not have cross compiler for them. Patches should be quite trivial to review for stupid compile mistakes though. The tricky parts are usually hidden by macro definitions and thats where I would appreciate help from arch maintainers. [1] http://lkml.kernel.org/r/1461849846-27209-1-git-send-email-mhocko@kernel.org This patch (of 19): __GFP_REPEAT has a rather weak semantic but since it has been introduced around 2.6.12 it has been ignored for low order allocations. Yet we have the full kernel tree with its usage for apparently order-0 allocations. This is really confusing because __GFP_REPEAT is explicitly documented to allow allocation failures which is a weaker semantic than the current order-0 has (basically nofail). Let's simply drop __GFP_REPEAT from those places. This would allow to identify place which really need allocator to retry harder and formulate a more specific semantic for what the flag is supposed to do actually. microblaze/PCI: Implement pci_resource_to_user() with pcibios_resource_to_bus()
"User" addresses are shown in /sys/devices/pci.../.../resource and /proc/bus/pci/devices and used as mmap offsets for /proc/bus/pci/BB/DD.F files. For I/O port resources on microblaze, these are PCI bus addresses, i.e., raw BAR values. Previously pci_resource_to_user() computed the user address by subtracting "hose->io_base_virt - _IO_BASE" from the resource start: pci_resource_to_user() if (IO) offset = (unsigned long)hose->io_base_virt - _IO_BASE; *start = rsrc->start - offset; We've already told the PCI core about that "hose->io_base_virt - _IO_BASE" offset: pcibios_setup_phb_resources() res = &hose->io_resource; pci_add_resource_offset(resources, res, hose->io_base_virt - _IO_BASE); so pcibios_resource_to_bus() knows how to do that translation. lib/GCD.c: use binary GCD algorithm instead of Euclidean
The binary GCD algorithm is based on the following facts: 1. If a and b are all evens, then gcd(a,b) = 2 * gcd(a/2, b/2) 2. If a is even and b is odd, then gcd(a,b) = gcd(a/2, b) 3. If a and b are all odds, then gcd(a,b) = gcd((a-b)/2, b) = gcd((a+b)/2, b) Even on x86 machines with reasonable division hardware, the binary algorithm runs about 25% faster (80% the execution time) than the division-based Euclidian algorithm. On platforms like Alpha and ARMv6 where division is a function call to emulation code, it's even more significant. There are two variants of the code here, depending on whether a fast __ffs (find least significant set bit) instruction is available. This allows the unpredictable branches in the bit-at-a-time shifting loop to be eliminated. If fast __ffs is not available, the "even/odd" GCD variant is used. I use the following code to benchmark: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <stdint.h> #include <string.h> #include <time.h> #include <unistd.h> #define swap(a, b) \ do { \ a ^= b; \ b ^= a; \ a ^= b; \ } while (0) unsigned long gcd0(unsigned long a, unsigned long b) { unsigned long r; if (a < b) { swap(a, b); } if (b == 0) return a; while ((r = a % b) != 0) { a = b; b = r; } return b; } unsigned long gcd1(unsigned long a, unsigned long b) { unsigned long r = a | b; if (!a || !b) return r; b >>= __builtin_ctzl(b); for (;;) { a >>= __builtin_ctzl(a); if (a == b) return a << __builtin_ctzl(r); if (a < b) swap(a, b); a -= b; } } unsigned long gcd2(unsigned long a, unsigned long b) { unsigned long r = a | b; if (!a || !b) return r; r &= -r; while (!(b & r)) b >>= 1; for (;;) { while (!(a & r)) a >>= 1; if (a == b) return a; if (a < b) swap(a, b); a -= b; a >>= 1; if (a & r) a += b; a >>= 1; } } unsigned long gcd3(unsigned long a, unsigned long b) { unsigned long r = a | b; if (!a || !b) return r; b >>= __builtin_ctzl(b); if (b == 1) return r & -r; for (;;) { a >>= __builtin_ctzl(a); if (a == 1) return r & -r; if (a == b) return a << __builtin_ctzl(r); if (a < b) swap(a, b); a -= b; } } unsigned long gcd4(unsigned long a, unsigned long b) { unsigned long r = a | b; if (!a || !b) return r; r &= -r; while (!(b & r)) b >>= 1; if (b == r) return r; for (;;) { while (!(a & r)) a >>= 1; if (a == r) return r; if (a == b) return a; if (a < b) swap(a, b); a -= b; a >>= 1; if (a & r) a += b; a >>= 1; } } static unsigned long (*gcd_func[])(unsigned long a, unsigned long b) = { gcd0, gcd1, gcd2, gcd3, gcd4, }; #define TEST_ENTRIES (sizeof(gcd_func) / sizeof(gcd_func[0])) #if defined(__x86_64__) #define rdtscll(val) do { \ unsigned long __a,__d; \ __asm__ __volatile__("rdtsc" : "=a" (__a), "=d" (__d)); \ (val) = ((unsigned long long)__a) | (((unsigned long long)__d)<<32); \ } while(0) static unsigned long long benchmark_gcd_func(unsigned long (*gcd)(unsigned long, unsigned long), unsigned long a, unsigned long b, unsigned long *res) { unsigned long long start, end; unsigned long long ret; unsigned long gcd_res; rdtscll(start); gcd_res = gcd(a, b); rdtscll(end); if (end >= start) ret = end - start; else ret = ~0ULL - start + 1 + end; *res = gcd_res; return ret; } #else static inline struct timespec read_time(void) { struct timespec time; clock_gettime(CLOCK_PROCESS_CPUTIME_ID, &time); return time; } static inline unsigned long long diff_time(struct timespec start, struct timespec end) { struct timespec temp; if ((end.tv_nsec - start.tv_nsec) < 0) { temp.tv_sec = end.tv_sec - start.tv_sec - 1; temp.tv_nsec = 1000000000ULL + end.tv_nsec - start.tv_nsec; } else { temp.tv_sec = end.tv_sec - start.tv_sec; temp.tv_nsec = end.tv_nsec - start.tv_nsec; } return temp.tv_sec * 1000000000ULL + temp.tv_nsec; } static unsigned long long benchmark_gcd_func(unsigned long (*gcd)(unsigned long, unsigned long), unsigned long a, unsigned long b, unsigned long *res) { struct timespec start, end; unsigned long gcd_res; start = read_time(); gcd_res = gcd(a, b); end = read_time(); *res = gcd_res; return diff_time(start, end); } #endif static inline unsigned long get_rand() { if (sizeof(long) == 8) return (unsigned long)rand() << 32 | rand(); else return rand(); } int main(int argc, char **argv) { unsigned int seed = time(0); int loops = 100; int repeats = 1000; unsigned long (*res)[TEST_ENTRIES]; unsigned long long elapsed[TEST_ENTRIES]; int i, j, k; for (;;) { int opt = getopt(argc, argv, "n:r:s:"); /* End condition always first */ if (opt == -1) break; switch (opt) { case 'n': loops = atoi(optarg); break; case 'r': repeats = atoi(optarg); break; case 's': seed = strtoul(optarg, NULL, 10); break; default: /* You won't actually get here. */ break; } } res = malloc(sizeof(unsigned long) * TEST_ENTRIES * loops); memset(elapsed, 0, sizeof(elapsed)); srand(seed); for (j = 0; j < loops; j++) { unsigned long a = get_rand(); /* Do we have args? */ unsigned long b = argc > optind ? strtoul(argv[optind], NULL, 10) : get_rand(); unsigned long long min_elapsed[TEST_ENTRIES]; for (k = 0; k < repeats; k++) { for (i = 0; i < TEST_ENTRIES; i++) { unsigned long long tmp = benchmark_gcd_func(gcd_func[i], a, b, &res[j][i]); if (k == 0 || min_elapsed[i] > tmp) min_elapsed[i] = tmp; } } for (i = 0; i < TEST_ENTRIES; i++) elapsed[i] += min_elapsed[i]; } for (i = 0; i < TEST_ENTRIES; i++) printf("gcd%d: elapsed %llu\n", i, elapsed[i]); k = 0; srand(seed); for (j = 0; j < loops; j++) { unsigned long a = get_rand(); unsigned long b = argc > optind ? strtoul(argv[optind], NULL, 10) : get_rand(); for (i = 1; i < TEST_ENTRIES; i++) { if (res[j][i] != res[j][0]) break; } if (i < TEST_ENTRIES) { if (k == 0) { k = 1; fprintf(stderr, "Error:\n"); } fprintf(stderr, "gcd(%lu, %lu): ", a, b); for (i = 0; i < TEST_ENTRIES; i++) fprintf(stderr, "%ld%s", res[j][i], i < TEST_ENTRIES - 1 ? arch, ftrace: for KASAN put hard/soft IRQ entries into separate sections
KASAN needs to know whether the allocation happens in an IRQ handler. This lets us strip everything below the IRQ entry point to reduce the number of unique stack traces needed to be stored. Move the definition of __irq_entry to <linux/interrupt.h> so that the users don't need to pull in <linux/ftrace.h>. Also introduce the __softirq_entry macro which is similar to __irq_entry, but puts the corresponding functions to the .softirqentry.text section. Pull networking updates from David Miller: "Highlights: 1) Support more Realtek wireless chips, from Jes Sorenson. 2) New BPF types for per-cpu hash and arrap maps, from Alexei Starovoitov. 3) Make several TCP sysctls per-namespace, from Nikolay Borisov. 4) Allow the use of SO_REUSEPORT in order to do per-thread processing of incoming TCP/UDP connections. The muxing can be done using a BPF program which hashes the incoming packet. From Craig Gallek. 5) Add a multiplexer for TCP streams, to provide a messaged based interface. BPF programs can be used to determine the message boundaries. From Tom Herbert. 6) Add 802.1AE MACSEC support, from Sabrina Dubroca. 7) Avoid factorial complexity when taking down an inetdev interface with lots of configured addresses. We were doing things like traversing the entire address less for each address removed, and flushing the entire netfilter conntrack table for every address as well. 8) Add and use SKB bulk free infrastructure, from Jesper Brouer. 9) Allow offloading u32 classifiers to hardware, and implement for ixgbe, from John Fastabend. 10) Allow configuring IRQ coalescing parameters on a per-queue basis, from Kan Liang. 11) Extend ethtool so that larger link mode masks can be supported. From David Decotigny. 12) Introduce devlink, which can be used to configure port link types (ethernet vs Infiniband, etc.), port splitting, and switch device level attributes as a whole. From Jiri Pirko. 13) Hardware offload support for flower classifiers, from Amir Vadai. 14) Add "Local Checksum Offload". Basically, for a tunneled packet the checksum of the outer header is 'constant' (because with the checksum field filled into the inner protocol header, the payload of the outer frame checksums to 'zero'), and we can take advantage of that in various ways. This is the bulk of GPIO changes for kernel v4.6:
Core changes: - The gpio_chip is now a *real device*. Until now the gpio chips were just piggybacking the parent device or (gasp) floating in space outside of the device model. We now finally make GPIO chips devices. The gpio_chip will create a gpio_device which contains a struct device, and this gpio_device struct is kept private. Anything that needs to be kept private from the rest of the kernel will gradually be moved over to the gpio_device. - As a result of making the gpio_device a real device, we have added resource management, so devm_gpiochip_add_data() will cut down on overhead and reduce code lines. A huge slew of patches convert almost all drivers in the subsystem to use this. - Building on making the GPIO a real device, we add the first step of a new userspace ABI: the GPIO character device. We take small steps here, so we first add a pure *information* ABI and the tool "lsgpio" that will list all GPIO devices on the system and all lines on these devices. We can now discover GPIOs properly from userspace. We still have not come up with a way to actually *use* GPIOs from userspace. - To encourage people to use the character device for the future, we have it always-enabled when using GPIO. The old sysfs ABI is still opt-in (and can be used in parallel), but is marked as deprecated. We will keep it around for the foreseeable future, but it will not be extended to cover ever more use cases. Cleanup: - Bjorn Helgaas removed a whole slew of per-architecture <asm/gpio.h> includes. This dates back to when GPIO was an opt-in feature and no shared library even existed: just a header file with proper prototypes was provided and all semantics were up to the arch to implement. These patches make the GPIO chip even more a proper device and cleans out leftovers of the old in-kernel API here and there. Still some cruft is left but it's very little now. - There is still some clamping of return values for .get() going on, but we now return sane values in the vast majority of drivers and the errorpath is sanitized. Some patches for powerpc, blackfin and unicore still drop in. - We continue to switch the ARM, MIPS, blackfin, m68k local GPIO implementations to use gpiochip_add_data() and cut down on code lines. - MPC8xxx is converted to use the generic GPIO helpers. - ATH79 is converted to use the generic GPIO helpers. ipv4: Update parameters for csum_tcpudp_magic to their original types
This patch updates all instances of csum_tcpudp_magic and csum_tcpudp_nofold to reflect the types that are usually used as the source inputs. For example the protocol field is populated based on nexthdr which is actually an unsigned 8 bit value. The length is usually populated based on skb->len which is an unsigned integer. This addresses an issue in which the IPv6 function csum_ipv6_magic was generating a checksum using the full 32b of skb->len while csum_tcpudp_magic was only using the lower 16 bits. As a result we could run into issues when attempting to adjust the checksum as there was no protocol agnostic way to update it. With this change the value is still truncated as many architectures use "(len + proto) << 8", however this truncation only occurs for values greater than 16776960 in length and as such is unlikely to occur as we stop the inner headers at ~64K in size. I did have to make a few minor changes in the arm, mn10300, nios2, and score versions of the function in order to support these changes as they were either using things such as an OR to combine the protocol and length, or were using ntohs to convert the length which would have truncated the value. I also updated a few spots in terms of whitespace and type differences for the addresses. Most of this was just to make sure all of the definitions were in sync going forward. Merge branch 'strscpy' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cmetcalf/linux-tile
Pull strscpy string copy function implementation from Chris Metcalf. Chris sent this during the merge window, but I waffled back and forth on the pull request, which is why it's going in only now. The new "strscpy()" function is definitely easier to use and more secure than either strncpy() or strlcpy(), both of which are horrible nasty interfaces that have serious and irredeemable problems. strncpy() has a useless return value, and doesn't NUL-terminate an overlong result. To make matters worse, it pads a short result with zeroes, which is a performance disaster if you have big buffers. strlcpy(), by contrast, is a mis-designed "fix" for strlcpy(), lacking the insane NUL padding, but having a differently broken return value which returns the original length of the source string. Which means that it will read characters past the count from the source buffer, and you have to trust the source to be properly terminated. It also makes error handling fragile, since the test for overflow is unnecessarily subtle. strscpy() avoids both these problems, guaranteeing the NUL termination (but not excessive padding) if the destination size wasn't zero, and making the overflow condition very obvious by returning -E2BIG. It also doesn't read past the size of the source, and can thus be used for untrusted source data too. So why did I waffle about this for so long? Every time we introduce a new-and-improved interface, people start doing these interminable series of trivial conversion patches. And every time that happens, somebody does some silly mistake, and the conversion patch to the improved interface actually makes things worse. Because the patch is mindnumbing and trivial, nobody has the attention span to look at it carefully, and it's usually done over large swatches of source code which means that not every conversion gets tested. So I'm pulling the strscpy() support because it *is* a better interface. But I will refuse to pull mindless conversion patches. Use this in places where it makes sense, but don't do trivial patches to fix things that aren't actually known to be broken. * 'strscpy' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cmetcalf/linux-tile: tile: use global strscpy() rather than private copy string: provide strscpy() Make asm/word-at-a-time.h available on all architectures |

dma-mapping: consolidate dma_set_mask
Almost everyone implements dma_set_mask the same way, although some time that's hidden in ->set_dma_mask methods. This patch consolidates those into a common implementation that either calls ->set_dma_mask if present or otherwise uses the default implementation. Some architectures used to only call ->set_dma_mask after the initial checks, and those instance have been fixed to do the full work. h8300 implemented dma_set_mask bogusly as a no-ops and has been fixed. Unfortunately some architectures overload unrelated semantics like changing the dma_ops into it so we still need to allow for an architecture override for now. dma-mapping: consolidate dma_supported
Most architectures just call into ->dma_supported, but some also return 1 if the method is not present, or 0 if no dma ops are present (although that should never happeb). Consolidate this more broad version into common code. Also fix h8300 which inorrectly always returned 0, which would have been a problem if it's dma_set_mask implementation wasn't a similarly buggy noop. dma-mapping: consolidate dma_{alloc,free}_noncoherent
Most architectures do not support non-coherent allocations and either define dma_{alloc,free}_noncoherent to their coherent versions or stub them out. Openrisc uses dma_{alloc,free}_attrs to implement them, and only Mips implements them directly. This patch moves the Openrisc version to common code, and handles the DMA_ATTR_NON_CONSISTENT case in the mips dma_map_ops instance. Note that actual non-coherent allocations require a dma_cache_sync implementation, so if non-coherent allocations didn't work on an architecture before this patch they still won't work after it. dma-mapping: consolidate dma_{alloc,free}_{attrs,coherent}
Since 2009 we have a nice asm-generic header implementing lots of DMA API functions for architectures using struct dma_map_ops, but unfortunately it's still missing a lot of APIs that all architectures still have to duplicate. This series consolidates the remaining functions, although we still need arch opt outs for two of them as a few architectures have very non-standard implementations. This patch (of 5): The coherent DMA allocator works the same over all architectures supporting dma_map operations. This patch consolidates them and converges the minor differences: - the debug_dma helpers are now called from all architectures, including those that were previously missing them - dma_alloc_from_coherent and dma_release_from_coherent are now always called from the generic alloc/free routines instead of the ops dma-mapping-common.h always includes dma-coherent.h to get the defintions for them, or the stubs if the architecture doesn't support this feature - checks for ->alloc / ->free presence are removed. There is only one magic instead of dma_map_ops without them (mic_dma_ops) and that one is x86 only anyway. Besides that only x86 needs special treatment to replace a default devices if none is passed and tweak the gfp_flags. An optional arch hook is provided for that. microblaze/timer: Migrate to new 'set-state' interface
Migrate microblaze driver to the new 'set-state' interface provided by clockevents core, the earlier 'set-mode' interface is marked obsolete now. This also enables us to implement callbacks for new states of clockevent devices, for example: ONESHOT_STOPPED. We weren't doing anything in ->set_mode(RESUME or ONESHOT) and so tick_resume() set_state_oneshot() aren't implemented. Cc: Michal Simek <monstr@monstr.eu> Cc: "David S. PCI: Call pci_read_bridge_bases() from core instead of arch code
When we scan a PCI bus, we read PCI-PCI bridge window registers with pci_read_bridge_bases() so we can validate the resource hierarchy. Most architectures call pci_read_bridge_bases() from pcibios_fixup_bus(), but PCI-PCI bridges are not arch-specific, so this doesn't need to be in arch-specific code. Call pci_read_bridge_bases() directly from the PCI core instead of from arch code. For alpha and mips, we now call pci_read_bridge_bases() always; previously we only called it if PCI_PROBE_ONLY was set. ftrace: Format MCOUNT_ADDR address as type unsigned long
Always we use type unsigned long to format the ip address, since the value of ip address is never the negative. This patch uses type unsigned long, instead of long, to format the ip address. The code is more clearly to be viewed by using type unsigned long, although it is correct by using either unsigned long or long. Make asm/word-at-a-time.h available on all architectures
Added the x86 implementation of word-at-a-time to the generic version, which previously only supported big-endian. Omitted the x86-specific load_unaligned_zeropad(), which in any case is also not present for the existing BE-only implementation of a word-at-a-time, and is only used under CONFIG_DCACHE_WORD_ACCESS. Added as a "generic-y" to the Kbuilds of all architectures that didn't previously have it. Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@ezchip.com> |
