Linus Torvalds b272f732f8 Merge branch 'smp-urgent-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull SMP hotplug notifier removal from Thomas Gleixner:
"This is the final cleanup of the hotplug notifier infrastructure. The
series has been reintgrated in the last two days because there came a
new driver using the old infrastructure via the SCSI tree.

  Summary:

   - convert the last leftover drivers utilizing notifiers

   - fixup for a completely broken hotplug user

   - prevent setup of already used states

   - removal of the notifiers

   - treewide cleanup of hotplug state names

   - consolidation of state space

There is a sphinx based documentation pending, but that needs review
  from the documentation folks"

Thomas Gleixner 73c1b41e63 cpu/hotplug: Cleanup state names
When the state names got added a script was used to add the extra argument
to the calls. The script basically converted the state constant to a
string, but the cleanup to convert these strings into meaningful ones did
not happen.

Replace all the useless strings with 'subsys/xxx/yyy:state' strings which
are used in all the other places already.

  sed -i -e "s!$PATT!#include <linux/uaccess.h>!" \

Catalin Marinas bd38967d40 arm64: Factor out PAN enabling/disabling into separate uaccess_* macros
This patch moves the directly coded alternatives for turning PAN on/off
into separate uaccess_{enable,disable} macros or functions. The asm
macros take a few arguments which will be used in subsequent patches.

Note that any (unlikely) access that the compiler might generate between
uaccess_enable() and uaccess_disable(), other than those explicitly
specified by the user access code, will not be protected by PAN.

Will Deacon 1c5b51dfb7 arm64: swp emulation: bound LL/SC retries before rescheduling
If a CPU does not implement a global monitor for certain memory types,
then userspace can attempt a kernel DoS by issuing SWP instructions
targetting the problematic memory (for example, a framebuffer mapped
with non-cacheable attributes).

The SWP emulation code protects against these sorts of attacks by
checking for pending signals and potentially rescheduling when the STXR
instruction fails during the emulation. Whilst this is good for avoiding
livelock, it harms emulation of legitimate SWP instructions on CPUs
where forward progress is not guaranteed if there are memory accesses to
the same reservation granule (up to 2k) between the failing STXR and
the retry of the LDXR.

This patch solves the problem by retrying the STXR a bounded number of
times (4) before breaking out of the LL/SC loop and looking for
something else to do.

Ard Biesheuvel 6c94f27ac8 arm64: switch to relative exception tables
Instead of using absolute addresses for both the exception location
and the fixup, use offsets relative to the exception table entry values.
Not only does this cut the size of the exception table in half, it is
also a prerequisite for KASLR, since absolute exception table entries
are subject to dynamic relocation, which is incompatible with the sorting
of the exception table that occurs at build time.

This patch also introduces the _ASM_EXTABLE preprocessor macro (which
exists on x86 as well) and its _asm_extable assembly counterpart, as
shorthands to emit exception table entries.

James Morse 338d4f49d6 arm64: kernel: Add support for Privileged Access Never
'Privileged Access Never' is a new arm8.1 feature which prevents
privileged code from accessing any virtual address where read or write

This patch enables the PAN feature on all CPUs, and modifies {get,put}_user

This will catch kernel bugs where user memory is accessed directly.

Suzuki K. Poulose 2d888f48e0 arm64: Emulate SETEND for AArch32 tasks
Emulate deprecated 'setend' instruction for AArch32 bit tasks.

setend [le/be] - Sets the endianness of EL0

On systems with CPUs which support mixed endian at EL0, the hardware
support for the instruction can be enabled by setting the SCTLR_EL1.SED
bit. Like the other emulated instructions it is controlled by an entry in
/proc/sys/abi/. For more information see :
	Documentation/arm64/legacy_instructions.txt

The instruction is emulated by setting/clearing the SPSR_EL1.E bit, which
will be reflected in the PSTATE.E in AArch32 context.

This patch also restores the native endianness for the execution of signal
handlers, since the process could have changed the endianness.

Note: All CPUs on the system must have mixed endian support at EL0. Once the
handler is registered, hotplugging a CPU which doesn't support mixed endian,
could lead to unexpected results/behavior in applications.

Suzuki K. Poulose 736d474f0f arm64: Consolidate hotplug notifier for instruction emulation
As of now each insn_emulation has a cpu hotplug notifier that
enables/disables the CPU feature bit for the functionality. This
patch re-arranges the code, such that there is only one notifier
that runs through the list of registered emulation hooks and runs
their corresponding set_hw_mode.

We do nothing when a CPU is dying as we will set the appropriate bits
as it comes back online based on the state of the hooks.

Punit Agrawal c852f32058 arm64: Emulate CP15 Barrier instructions
The CP15 barrier instructions (CP15ISB, CP15DSB and CP15DMB) are
deprecated in the ARMv7 architecture, superseded by ISB, DSB and DMB
instructions respectively. Some implementations may provide the
ability to disable the CP15 barriers by disabling the CP15BEN bit in

undefined.

Punit Agrawal 587064b610 arm64: Add framework for legacy instruction emulation
Typically, providing support for legacy instructions requires
emulating the behaviour of instructions whose encodings have become
undefined. If the instructions haven't been removed from the
architecture, there maybe an option in the implementation to turn
on/off the support for these instructions.

Create common infrastructure to support legacy instruction
emulation. In addition to emulation, also provide an option to support
hardware execution when supported. The default execution mode (one of
undef, emulate, hw exeuction) is dependent on the state of the
instruction (deprecated or obsolete) in the architecture and
can specified at the time of registering the instruction handlers. The
runtime state of the emulation can be controlled by writing to
individual nodes in sysctl. The expected default behaviour is
documented as part of this patch.
