This is the fourth respin of the patch to convert oplock breaks to
use the slow_work facility.
A customer of ours was testing a backport of one of the earlier
patchsets, and hit a "Busy inodes after umount..." problem. An oplock
break job had raced with a umount, and the superblock got torn down and
its memory reused. When the oplock break job tried to dereference the
inode->i_sb, the kernel oopsed.
This patchset has the oplock break job hold an inode and vfsmount
reference until the oplock break completes. With this, there should be
no need to take a tcon reference (the vfsmount implicitly holds one
already).
Currently, when an oplock break comes in there's a chance that the
oplock break job won't occur if the allocation of the oplock_q_entry
fails. There are also some rather nasty races in the allocation and
handling these structs.
Rather than allocating oplock queue entries when an oplock break comes
in, add a few extra fields to the cifsFileInfo struct. Get rid of the
dedicated cifs_oplock_thread as well and queue the oplock break job to
the slow_work thread pool.
This approach also has the advantage that the oplock break jobs can
potentially run in parallel rather than be serialized like they are
today.

Right now, the GlobalOplock_Q is protected by the GlobalMid_Lock. That
lock is also used for completely unrelated purposes (mostly for managing
the global mid queue). Give the list its own dedicated spinlock
(cifs_oplock_lock) and rename the list to cifs_oplock_list to
eliminate the camel-case.

The lock_kernel call moved into the fs for umount_begin
is not needed. This adds a check to make sure we don't
call umount_begin twice on the same fs.
umount_begin for cifs is probably not needed and
may eventually be able to be removed, but in
the meantime this smaller patch is safe and
gets rid of the bkl from this path which provides
some benefit.

show_options is always called with the namespace_sem held. Therefore we
don't need to worry about the vfsmount being NULL, or it vanishing while
the function is running. By the same token, there's no need to worry
about the superblock, tcon, smb or tcp sessions being NULL on entry.

Move BKL into ->put_super from the only caller. A couple of
filesystems had trivial enough ->put_super (only kfree and NULLing of
s_fs_info + stuff in there) to not get any locking: coda, cramfs, efs,
hugetlbfs, omfs, qnx4, shmem, all others got the full treatment. Most
of them probably don't need it, but I'd rather sort that out individually.
Preferably after all the other BKL pushdowns in that area.

cifs: remove dnotify thread code
Al Viro recently removed the dir_notify code from the kernel along with
the CIFS code that used it. We can also get rid of the dnotify thread
as well.
In actuality, it never had anything to do with dir_notify anyway. All
it did was unnecessarily wake up all the tasks waiting on the response
queues every 15s. Previously that happened to prevent tasks from hanging
indefinitely when the server went unresponsive, but we put those to
sleep with proper timeouts now so there's no reason to keep this around.

This is the fourth version of this patch:
The first three generated a compiler warning asking for explicit curly
braces.
The first two didn't handle update the size correctly when writes that
didn't start at the eof were done.
The first patch also didn't update the size correctly when it explicitly
set via truncate().
This patch adds code to track the client's current understanding of the
size of the file on the server separate from the i_size, and then to use
this info to semi-intelligently set the timeout for writes past the EOF.
This helps prevent timeouts when trying to write large, sparse files on
windows servers.

simple_set_mnt() is defined as returning 'int' but always returns 0.
Callers assume simple_set_mnt() never fails and don't properly cleanup if
it were to _ever_ fail. For instance, get_sb_single() and get_sb_nodev()
should:
up_write(sb->s_unmount);
deactivate_super(sb);
if simple_set_mnt() fails.
Since simple_set_mnt() never fails, would be cleaner if it did not
return anything.

Remove the hopelessly misguided ->dir_notify(). The only instance (cifs)
has been broken by design from the very beginning; the objects it creates
are never destroyed, keep references to struct file they can outlive, nothing
that could possibly evict them exists on close(2) path *and* no locking
whatsoever is done to prevent races with close(), should the previous, er,
deficiencies someday be dealt with.

attached to each SMB session. Move the refcount to non-atomic. Protect

We do this by abandoning the global list of SMB sessions and instead
moving to a per-server list. This entails adding a new list head to the
TCP_Server_Info struct. The refcounting for the cifsSesInfo is moved to
a non-atomic variable. We have to protect it by a lock anyway, so there's
no benefit to making it an atomic. The list and refcount are protected
by the global cifs_tcp_ses_lock.
The patch also adds a new routines to find and put SMB sessions and
that properly take and put references under the lock.

The code that allows these structs to be shared is extremely racy.
Disable the sharing of SMB and tcon structs for now until we can
come up with a way to do this that's race free.
We want to continue to share TCP sessions, however since they are
required for multiuser mounts. For that, implement a new (hopefully
race-free) scheme. Add a new global list of TCP sessions, and take
care to get a reference to it whenever we're dealing with one.

In preparation for Jeff's big umount/mount fixes to remove the possibility of
various races in cifs mount and linked list handling of sessions, sockets and
tree connections, this patch cleans up some repetitive code in cifs_mount,
and addresses a problem with ses->status and tcon->tidStatus in which we
were overloading the "need_reconnect" state with other status in that
field. So the "need_reconnect" flag has been broken out from those
two state fields (need reconnect was not mutually exclusive from some of the
other possible tid and ses states). In addition, a few exit cases in
cifs_mount were cleaned up, and a problem with a tcon flag (for lease support)
was not being set consistently for the 2nd mount of the same share

For execute permission on a regular files we need to check if file has
any execute bits at all, regardless of capabilites.
This check is normally performed by generic_permission() but was also
added to the case when the filesystem defines its own ->permission()
method. In the latter case the filesystem should be responsible for
performing this check.
Move the check from inode_permission() inside filesystems which are
not calling generic_permission().
Create a helper function execute_ok() that returns true if the inode
is a directory or if any execute bits are present in i_mode.
Also fix up the following code:
- coda control file is never executable
- sysctl files are never executable
- hfs_permission seems broken on MAY_EXEC, remove
- hfsplus_permission is eqivalent to generic_permission(), remove

fcntl(F_SETLEASE) currently is not exported by cifs (nor by local file
systems) so cifs grants leases based on how other local processes have
opened the file not by whether the file is cacheable (oplocked). This
adds the check to make sure that the file is cacheable on the client
before checking whether we can grant the lease locally
(generic_setlease). It also adds a mount option for cifs (locallease)
if the user wants to override this and try to grant leases even
if the server did not grant oplock.

themselves multiplexeres. Nobody uses this "feature", nor does anybody uses
passed kmem cache in non-trivial way, so pass only pointer to object.

- Replace remote_llseek with generic_file_llseek_unlocked (to force compilation
failures in all users)
- Change all users to either use generic_file_llseek_unlocked directly or
take the BKL around. I changed the file systems who don't use the BKL
for anything (CIFS, GFS) to call it directly. NCPFS and SMBFS and NFS
take the BKL, but explicitely in their own source now.
I moved them all over in a single patch to avoid unbisectable sections.
Open problem: 32bit kernels can corrupt fpos because its modification
is not atomic, but they can do that anyways because there's other paths who
modify it without BKL.
Do we need a special lock for the pos/f_version = 0 checks?
Trond says the NFS BKL is likely not needed, but keep it for now
until his full audit.

adds various options to cifs_show_options
(displayed when you cat /proc/mounts with a cifs mount). I limited
the new ones to values that are associated with the mount with the
exception of "seal" (which is a per tree connection property, but I
thought was important enough to show through).
Eventually cifs's parse_mount_options also needs to
be rewritten to use the match_token API but that would be a big enough
change that I would prefer that changing parse_mount_options wait
until next release.

Stop the CIFS filesystem from using iget() and read_inode(). Replace
cifs_read_inode() with cifs_iget(), and call that instead of iget().
cifs_iget() then uses iget_locked() directly and returns a proper error code
instead of an inode in the event of an error.
cifs_read_super() now returns any error incurred when getting the root inode
instead of ENOMEM.
cifs_iget() needs examining. The comment "can not call macro FreeXid here
since in a void func" is no longer true.

The idea here is separate "conscious" from "unconscious" flushes.
Conscious flushes are those due to a fsync() or close(). Unconscious
ones are flushes that occur as a side effect of some other operation or
due to memory pressure.
Currently, when an error occurs during an unconscious flush (ENOSPC or
EIO), we toss out the page and don't preserve that error to report to
the user when a conscious flush occurs. If after the unconscious flush,
there are no more dirty pages for the inode, the conscious flush will
simply return success even though there were previous errors when writing
out pages. This can lead to data corruption.
The easiest way to reproduce this is to mount up a CIFS share that's
very close to being full or where the user is very close to quota. mv
a file to the share that's slightly larger than the quota allows. The
writes will all succeed (since they go to pagecache). The mv will do a
setattr to set the new file's attributes. This calls
filemap_write_and_wait,
which will return an error since all of the pages can't be written out.
Then later, when the flush and release ops occur, there are no more
dirty pages in pagecache for the file and those operations return 0. mv
then assumes that the file was written out correctly and deletes the
original.
CIFS already has a write_behind_rc variable where it stores the results
from earlier flushes, but that value is only reported in cifs_close.
Since the VFS ignores the return value from the release operation, this
isn't helpful. We should be reporting this error during the flush
operation.
This patch does the following:
1) changes cifs_fsync to use filemap_write_and_wait and cifs_flush and also
sync to check its return code. If it returns successful, they then check
the value of write_behind_rc to see if an earlier flush had reported any
errors. If so, they return that error and clear write_behind_rc.
2) sets write_behind_rc in a few other places where pages are written
out as a side effect of other operations and the code waits on them.
3) changes cifs_setattr to only call filemap_write_and_wait for
ATTR_SIZE changes.
4) makes cifs_writepages accurately distinguish between EIO and ENOSPC
errors when writing out pages.
Some simple testing indicates that the patch works as expected and that
it fixes the reproduceable known problem.

Slab destructors were no longer supported after Christoph's
c59def9f22 change. They've been
BUGs for both slab and slub, and slob never supported them
either.
This rips out support for the dtor pointer from kmem_cache_create()
completely and fixes up every single callsite in the kernel (there were
about 224, not including the slab allocator definitions themselves,
or the documentation references).

Currently, the freezer treats all tasks as freezable, except for the kernel
threads that explicitly set the PF_NOFREEZE flag for themselves. This
approach is problematic, since it requires every kernel thread to either
set PF_NOFREEZE explicitly, or call try_to_freeze(), even if it doesn't
care for the freezing of tasks at all.
It seems better to only require the kernel threads that want to or need to
be frozen to use some freezer-related code and to remove any
freezer-related code from the other (nonfreezable) kernel threads, which is
done in this patch.
The patch causes all kernel threads to be nonfreezable by default (ie. to
have PF_NOFREEZE set by default) and introduces the set_freezable()
function that should be called by the freezable kernel threads in order to
unset PF_NOFREEZE. It also makes all of the currently freezable kernel
threads call set_freezable(), so it shouldn't cause any (intentional)
change of behaviour to appear. Additionally, it updates documentation to
describe the freezing of tasks more accurately.

This should be the last big batch of whitespace/formatting fixes.
checkpatch warnings for the cifs directory are down about 90% and
many of the remaining ones are harder to remove or make the code
harder to read.

nfsd is passing null nameidata (probably the only one doing that)
on call to create - cifs was missing one check for this.
Note that running nfsd over a cifs mount requires specifying fsid on
the nfs exports entry and requires mounting cifs with serverino mount
option.

They can use generic_file_splice_read() instead. Since sys_sendfile() now
prefers that, there should be no change in behaviour.

Slab cache used as memory pool can not be destroyed before the memory
pool destruction. Because the memory pool still holds some objects and
kmem_cache_destroy() says "Can't free all objects".

I have never seen a use of SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL. It is only supported by
SLAB.
I think its purpose was to have a callback after an object has been freed
to verify that the state is the constructor state again? The callback is
performed before each freeing of an object.
I would think that it is much easier to check the object state manually
before the free. That also places the check near the code object
manipulation of the object.
Also the SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL callback is only performed if the kernel was
compiled with SLAB debugging on. If there would be code in a constructor
handling SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL then it would have to be conditional on
SLAB_DEBUG otherwise it would just be dead code. But there is no such code
in the kernel. I think SLUB_DEBUG_INITIAL is too problematic to make real
use of, difficult to understand and there are easier ways to accomplish the
same effect (i.e. add debug code before kfree).
There is a related flag SLAB_CTOR_VERIFY that is frequently checked to be
clear in fs inode caches. Remove the pointless checks (they would even be
pointless without removeal of SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL) from the fs constructors.
This is the last slab flag that SLUB did not support. Remove the check for
unimplemented flags from SLUB.

When CIFS Unix Extensions are negotiated we get the Unix uid and gid
owners of the file from the server (on the Unix Query Path Info
levels), but if the server's uids don't match the client uid's users
were having to disable the Unix Extensions (which turned off features
they still wanted). The changeset patch allows users to override uid
and/or gid for file/directory owner with a default uid and/or gid
specified at mount (as is often done when mounting from Linux cifs
client to Windows server). This changeset also displays the uid
and gid used by default in /proc/mounts (if applicable).
Also cleans up code by adding some of the missing spaces after
"if" keywords per-kernel style guidelines (as suggested by Randy Dunlap
when he reviewed the patch).

file->f_path.dentry or file->f_path.dentry.d_inode can't be NULL since at
least ten years, similar for all but very few arguments passed in from the
VFS.

For nfsd to work over cifs mounts (which presumably makes sense when trying
to reexport mounts to windows, network appliances or Samba servers to nfs
clients via nfs server).
This is the first stage of that enablement, marked experimental and turned
off by default.

atime flag was also overwritten. Noticed by Shirish when he was debugging
an atime problem. Should help performance a bit too.
cifs should be getting time stamps from the server (that was the original
intent too)

Many struct inode_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const
moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential
dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to
these shared resources.

Fix dialect negotiation to save off when we have negotiated lanman.
This allows us to avoid sending some somewhat newer requests that the server
can not handle and go directly to the older version (infolevel) of the same
call. Make sure we try to negotiate a level which allows us to get the
server OS (which we check so we can detect Win9x vs. other legacy servers
and eventually work around the Win9x DOS time bug (they reverse date/time
fields).
