pxafb_parse_options() has very long lines exceeding far beyond 80 characters,
which makes the function looks bad. Un-nest it into smaller functions and use
a temporary string for only what has been overridden instead of the whole

Remove proc_root export. Creation and removal works well if parent PDE is
supplied as NULL -- it worked always that way.
So, one useless export removed and consistency added, some drivers created
PDEs with &proc_root as parent but removed them as NULL and so on.

A command that causes a line feed while a background color is active,
such as
perl -e 'print "x" x 60, "\e[44m", "x" x 40, "\e[0m\n"'
and
perl -e 'print "x" x 40, "\e[44m\n", "x" x 40, "\e[0m\n"'
causes the line that was started as a result of the line feed to be completely
filled with the currently active background color instead of the default
color.
When scrolling, part of the current screen is memcpy'd/memmove'd to the new
region, and the new line(s) that will appear as a result are cleared using
memset. However, the lines are cleared with vc->vc_video_erase_char, causing
them to be colored with the currently active background color. This is
different from X11 terminal emulators which always paint the new lines with
the default background color (e.g. `xterm -bg black`).
The clear operation (\e[1J and \e[2J) also use vc_video_erase_char, so a new
vc->vc_scrl_erase_char is introduced with contains the erase character used
for scrolling, which is built from vc->vc_def_color instead of vc->vc_color.

have a notebook with an Intel Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics

tested it a bit with DirectFB to make sure it is working stable.
I also have an Intel Mobile GM945 and I compared the results, the programming
interface of the 9xx series from Intel is mostly the same, so I think the
patch should add all the functionality which the 945GM has.

The following features are supported:
plane 0 works as a regular frame buffer, can be accessed by /dev/fb0
plane 1 has two AOIs (area of interest), can be accessed by /dev/fb1 and /dev/fb2
plane 2 has two AOIs, can be accessed by /dev/fb3 and /dev/fb4
Special ioctls support AOIs
All /dev/fb* can be used as regular frame buffer devices, except hardware
change can only be made through /dev/fb0. Changing pixel clock has no effect
on other fbs.
Limitation of usage of AOIs:
AOIs on the same plane can not be horizonally overlapped
AOIs have horizonal order, i.e. AOI0 should be always on top of AOI1
AOIs can not beyond phisical display area. Application should check AOI geometry
before changing physical resolution on /dev/fb0
required command line parameters to preallocate memory for frame buffer diufb.
optional command line parameters to set modes and monitor
video=fslfb:[resolution][,bpp][,monitor]
Syntax:
Resolution
xres x yres-bpp@refresh_rate, the -bpp and @refresh_rate are optional
eg, 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1280x1024-32, 1280x1024@60, 1280x1024-32@60, 1280x480-32@60
Bpp
bpp=32, bpp=24, or bpp=16
Monitor
monitor=0, monitor=1, monitor=2
0 is DVI
1 is Single link LVDS
2 is Double link LVDS
Note: switching monitor is a board feather, not DIU feather. MPC8610HPCD has three
monitor ports to swtich to. MPC5121ADS doesn't have additional monitor port. So switching
monirot port for MPC5121ADS has no effect.

Since there's no way to autodetect panel modes, we're forced to hardcode them
in the driver and add a big fat #ifdef. The OLPC DCON needs a specific mode
line (at 1200x900). This adds it to both gxfb and lxfb.
(Jordan said: We could probably detect the panel mode, but there isn't any
reason to since the panel timings are well known and won't change. While OFW
detection would be good computer science fu, it would be a wasted effort since
its so easy to hard code them into the table.)

- Rename DF_ register definitions to VP_ to match the data sheet;
ie, DF_PAR -> VP_PAR.
- for GP/DC registers, rather than defining to specific addresses, use
an enum to number them sequentially and just multiply by 4 (bytes) to
access them (in read_*/write_* functions).
- for VP/FP registers, use an enum and multiple by 8 (bytes). They're
64bit registers.

The legacy atmel LCDC IP uses a non standard color mode, "BGR-555.1" instead
"RGB-565". The major part of graphic stacks for embedded systems uses only
"RGB-565". It is possible to swap LCD IOs instead of doing this bit swapping

If the user specified a fixed framebuffer address on the command line, it may
have been initialized already with a splash image or something, so we
shouldn't clear it.
Therefore, we should only initialize the framebuffer if we allocated it
ourselves. This patch also updates the AVR32 setup code to clear the
framebuffer if it allocated it itself, i.e. the user didn't provide a fixed
address or the reservation failed.
I've updated the at91 platform code as well so that it initializes the
framebuffer if it is located in SRAM, but I haven't tested that it actually
works.

Prior to suspend, we allocate and switch to a new VT; after suspend, we switch
back to the original VT. This can be slow, and is completely unnecessary if
the framebuffer we're using can restore video properly.
This adds a hook that allows drivers to select whether or not to do this vt
switch, and changes the gxfb driver to call this hook. It also adds a module
param to gxfb to allow controlling of the vt switch (defaulting to no switch).
(Note: I'm not convinced that console_sem is the best way to protect this, but
we should probably have some form of locking..)

This adds the ability to suspend/resume the gxfb driver, which includes:
- The addition of a Graphics Processor register table in gxfb.h, and
associated GP handling.
- Register and palette saving code; registers are stored in gxfb_par.
A few MSR values are saved as well.
- gx_powerup and gx_powerdown functions which restore/save registers and
enable/disable graphic engines.
- gxfb_suspend/gxfb_resume

We want to stop sharing stuff with gx1fb; it makes little sense. There were
fields in geodefb_par that weren't being used, there was little point to the
DC/VP ops callbacks, etc. This implements the following:
- Create gxfb_par (based on geodefb_par), place it in gxfb.h
- Drop display_gx.h and video_gx.h. The last few patches moved most
stuff into gxfb.h anyways, so there was very little left.
- Drop the geode_{dc,vid}_ops stuff. Un-static functions, add
declarations to gxfb.h.

This does the following in preparation for register saving:
- moves the register definitions from video_gx.h and display_gx.h into
gxfb.h.
- renames GX_* registers to match their section (ie, VP_).
- renames register bitfields to match the data sheet (ie,
DC_DCFG_TGEN -> DC_DISPLAY_CFG_TGEN).
- for DC registers, rather than defining to specific addresses, use
an enum to number them sequentially and just multiply by 4(bytes) to
access them (in read_dc/write_dc).
- for VP and FP registers, use an enum and multiple by 8 (bytes). They're
64bit registers.

This cleans up a few MSR-using drivers in the following manner:
- Ensures MSRs are all defined in asm/geode.h, rather than in misc
places
- Makes the naming consistent; cs553[56] ones begin with MSR_,
GX-specific ones start with MSR_GX_, and LX-specific ones start
with MSR_LX_. Also, make the names match the data sheet.
- Use MSR names rather than numbers in source code
- Document the fact that the LX's MSR_PADSEL has the wrong value
in the data sheet. That's, uh, good to note.

Currently, if a perfect match in terms of resolution is not found,
fb_find_mode() only looks for a best-fit mode among modes with a higher
resolution than the one requested. Thus, if the user requests a resolution
higher than the largest supported one, they are dropped to the default mode
(usually a low resolution one).
Change this behaviour so that all valid video modes are considered when
looking for a best-fit mode, while still preferring modes with a higher
resolution.

drivers/video/xen-fbfront.c provides a framebuffer, and

The backends run in dom0 user space.
The two drivers are not in two separate patches, because the
intermediate step (one driver, not the other) is somewhat problematic:
the backend in dom0 needs both drivers, and will refuse to complete

The function pvr2fb_check_var() references
the variable __devinitdata pvr2_fix.
This is often because pvr2fb_check_var lacks a __devinitdata
annotation or the annotation of pvr2_fix is wrong.
This is obviously crap as no such reference exists, but it's a bit
closer to reality from older versions which blamed the PCI table. The
real problem was a reference to pvr2_var.vmode from pvr2fb_check_var(),
as pvr2_var is flagged as __devinitdata (pvr2_fix is also, so at least
that part is right).
pvr2_var.vmode is just a fancy way of saying FB_VMODE_NONINTERLACED, so
we just reference that explicitly instead.

During the last step of hibernation in the "platform" mode (with the
help of ACPI) we use the suspend code, including the devices'
->suspend() methods, to prepare the system for entering the ACPI S4
system sleep state.
But at least for some devices the operations performed by the
->suspend() callback in that case must be different from its operations
during regular suspend.
For this reason, introduce the new PM event type PM_EVENT_HIBERNATE and
pass it to the device drivers' ->suspend() methods during the last phase
of hibernation, so that they can distinguish this case and handle it as
appropriate. Modify the drivers that handle PM_EVENT_SUSPEND in a
special way and need to handle PM_EVENT_HIBERNATE in the same way.
These changes are necessary to fix a hibernation regression related
to the i915 driver (ref. http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/2/22/488).

This adds the OMAP1 PWL-based LCD backlight driver. It's been in the OMAP

timers which have PWM outputs. Such timers are more generic than the PWL
found on OMAP1 chips, but have a different EMI profile because they aren't
driven by a pseudorandom number generator.

The current attr_fgcol_ec / attr_bgcol_ec macros do a simple shift of bits
to get the color from vc_video_erase_char. For a monochrome display
however the attribute does not contain any color, only attribute bits.
Furthermore the reverse bit is lost because it is shifted out, the
resulting color is always 0.
This can bee seen on a monochrome console either directly or by setting it
to inverse mode via "setterm -inversescreen on" . Text is written with
correct color, fb_fillrects from a bit_clear / bit_clear_margins will get
wrong colors.

On the sam9 EK boards, the LCD backlight is hooked up to a PWM output from
the LCD controller. It's controlled by "contrast" registers though.
This patch lets boards declare that they have that kind of backlight
control. The driver can then export this control, letting screenblank and
other operations actually take effect ... reducing the typically
substantial power drain from the backlight.
Note that it's not fully cooked
- doesn't force backlight off during system suspend
- the "power" and "blank" events may not be done right
This should be easily added in the future.

Avoid displaying garbage on unused framebuffers. For most users a single
framebuffer is used together with fbcon. sm501fb supports two framebuffers
where one often is assigned to fbcon and the other one is left unused during
the boot.
The problem here is that framebuffers not in use by fbcon happen to display
garbage. This can easily be solved by making sure that framebuffer memory and
palette ram are cleared.
The problem can be observed by using looking at the panel output (fb1) after
booting the kernel with fbcon on crt (fb0). This is the default
configuration. It's also possible to watch the garbage on the crt framebuffer
by passing "fbcon=map:1" on the kernel cmdline. This will assign fbcon to the
panel (fb1) and leave the crt (fb0) unused.

This patch makes it possible to control panel pins usage with flags passed
from the platform data. Without this patch the sm501fb driver always controls
the VBIASEN and FPEN pins. The polarity and use of these pins are very
platform specific, so this patch introduces the flags
SM501FB_FLAG_PANEL_USE_VBIASEN and SM501FB_FLAG_PANEL_USE_FPEN which enable
the use of these pins.
This patch is needed to support the a Sharp LQ104V1DG21 lcd panel on SuperH
platforms such as R2D-1 and R2D-PLUS boards. Letting the sm501fb driver
control the FPEN and VBIASEN pins like today just results in lcd panel
flicker.

The current nvidiafb_check_var() simply bails out if the selected mode is
out of range of the panel dimensions. A good question would be why the
bogus mode is being selected in the first place -- the panel dimensions
that are read back are certainly bogus, but alas, I have no idea where to
even begin looking at the i2c/EDID/DDC mess:
nvidiafb: Device ID: 10de0165
nvidiafb: CRTC0 analog not found
nvidiafb: CRTC1 analog not found
nvidiafb: EDID found from BUS1
nvidiafb: CRTC 0 is currently programmed for DFP
nvidiafb: Using DFP on CRTC 0
nvidiafb: Panel size is 1280 x 1024
nvidiafb: Panel is TMDS
nvidiafb: unable to setup MTRR
nvidiafb: Flat panel dithering disabled
nvidiafb: PCI nVidia NV16 framebuffer (64MB @ 0xC0000000)
In my .config I presently have:
CONFIG_FIRMWARE_EDID=y
CONFIG_FB_DDC=y
CONFIG_FB_NVIDIA_I2C=y
I've not tried fiddling with these options, as I haven't the vaguest idea
what I should be looking at.
As a workaround, simply groveling for a new mode based on the probed
dimensions seems to work ok. While it would be nice to debug this further
and sort out why the panel information is bogus, I think it's still worth
retrying the mode based on the panel information at hand as a last-ditch
effort, rather than simply bailing out completely.

Fix http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9762
Framebuffer is ok only with default parameters only (it is 1280x800-8@60). If
parameters are video=radeonfb:1280x800-32@60 then xres, yres and xres_virtual
are ok but yres_virtual is 1024. It can be corrected by fbset utility so I
think it can be corrected in the driver code also.
Steps to reproduce: video=radeonfb:1280x800-32@60 or
video=radeonfb:1280x800-16@60
Add 1280x800 mode into modedb

Since the introduction of the acquire_console_sem calls in
0333d83509, kexecing can cause the
kernel to deadlock:
ps3fb_shutdown()
-> unregister_framebuffer()
-> fb_notifier_call_chain(FB_EVENT_FB_UNBIND)
-> fbcon_fb_unbind()
-> unbind_con_driver()
-> bind_con_driver()
[ acquires console_sem ]
-> fbcon_deinit()
-> fbops->fb_release(newinfo, 0)
-> ps3fb_release()
-> ps3fb_sync()
[ acquires console_sem ]
This change avoids the deadlock by moving the acquire_console_sem()
out of ps3fb_sync(), and puts it into the two other callsites, leaving
ps3fb_release() to call ps3fb_sync() without the console semaphore.
[Geert]
- Corrected call sequence above
- ps3fb_release() may be called with and without console_sem held. This is an
inconsistency that should be fixed at the fb level, but for now, try to
acquire console_sem in ps3fb_release().
I think it's safer to let ps3fb_release() try to acquire console_sem and
not refresh the screen if it fails, than to call ps3fb_sync() without
holding console_sem, as ps3fb_par may be modified at the same time, causing
crashes or lockups.
Besides, ps3fb_release() only calls ps3fb_sync() to refresh the screen
when display flipping is disabled, which is an uncommon case (except during
shutdown/kexec).

ps3fb: Update for firmware 2.10
As of PS3 firmware version 2.10, the GPU command buffer size must be at least 2
MiB large. Since we use only a small part of the GPU command buffer and don't
want to waste precious XDR memory, move the GPU command buffer back to the
start of the XDR memory reserved for ps3fb and let the unused part overlap with
the actual frame buffer.

This patch adds Graphics Output Protocol support to the kernel. UEFI2.0 spec
deprecates Universal Graphics Adapter (UGA) protocol and only Graphics Output
Protocol (GOP) is produced. Therefore, the boot loader needs to query the
UEFI firmware with appropriate Output Protocol and pass the video information
to the kernel. As a result of GOP protocol, an EFI framebuffer driver is
needed for displaying console messages. The patch adds a EFI framebuffer
driver. The EFI frame buffer driver in this patch is based on the Intel Mac
framebuffer driver.
The ELILO bootloader takes care of passing the video information as
appropriate for EFI firmware.
The framebuffer driver has been tested in i386 kernel and x86_64 kernel on EFI
platform.

This patch adds an additional loop, that delays turning off the DMA
until the LCDC core has been turned off. This prevents the picture
to be shifted some random length when the kernel re-initializes
the LCDC.
Without this patch, the LCDC keeps running for some small time after the
PWRCON:LCD_PWR has been cleared ; the FIFO suffers an underrun and on
re-starting the LCDC the FIFO data stays shifted.
This behavior has been seen and fixed on AT91SAM9261-EK and two custom
AT91SAM9261 boards, all of them having different LCD panels.

The code in fb_ddc_read() is said to be based on the implementation of the
radeon driver:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=fc5891c8a3ba284f13994d7bc1f1bfa8283982de
However, comparing the old radeon driver code with the new fb_ddc code
reveals some differences. Most notably, the I2C bus lines are held at the
end of the function, while the original code was releasing them (as the
comment above correctly says.)
There are a few other differences, which appear to be responsible for read
failures on my system. While tracing low-level I2C code in i2c-algo-bit, I
noticed that the initial attempt to read the EDID always failed. It takes
one retry for the read to succeed. As we are about to remove this
automatic retry property from i2c-algo-bit, reading the EDID would really
fail.
As a summary, the I2C lines quirk which is supposedly needed to read EDID
on some older monitors is currently breaking the (first) read on all other
monitors (and might not even work with older ones - did anyone try since
October 2006?)
After applying the patch below, which makes the code in fb_ddc_read()
really similar to what the radeon driver used to have, the first EDID read
succeeds again.
On top of that, as it appears that this code has been broken for one year
now and nobody seems to have complained, I'm curious if it makes sense to
keep this quirk in place. It makes the code more complex and slower just
for the sake of monitors which I guess nobody uses anymore. Can't we just
get rid of it?

cpu_data is currently an array defined using NR_CPUS. This means that
we overallocate since we will rarely really use maximum configured cpus.
When NR_CPU count is raised to 4096 the size of cpu_data becomes
3,145,728 bytes.
These changes were adopted from the sparc64 (and ia64) code. An
additional field was added to cpuinfo_x86 to be a non-ambiguous cpu
index. This corresponds to the index into a cpumask_t as well as the
per_cpu index. It's used in various places like show_cpuinfo().
cpu_data is defined to be the boot_cpu_data structure for the NON-SMP
case.

There is a test in tgafb_mono_imageblit() for a colour image with a fall-back
to cfb_imageblit(). The test is not necessary as the only caller, which is
tgafb_imageblit(), checks it too and only invokes this function for monochrome
images. It looks like a left-over from before some changes to

The pixel mask calculation in tgafb_mono_imageblit() uses a variable
left-shift on a 32-bit data type by up to 32. Shifting by the width of a data
type or more produces an unpredictable result according to the C standard.
Rather than widening the data type this fix makes sure the count is between 0
and 31. The reason is not to penalise 32-bit platforms with operation on a
"long long" type for a marginal case that is meant not to happen (blitting an
image of a zero width).
The reason it has escaped for so long is the Alpha, being purely 64-bit, :-)
does not mask the shift out to 32 bits. This is a valid implementation --
producing the correct result certainly falls within "unpredictable behaviour".
It does trigger on MIPS though and it is the recent merge of the TC support
which only enabled the driver for use on anything other than the Alpha. For
MIPS when the width is 32 the mask ends up being 0 rather than 0xffffffff as
it should be and the frame buffer is not updated.

As reported in Bugzilla Bug 9093, upon switching to X, a small rectangular
cursor can still be seen blinking in the upper left part of the screen. It is
fbcon's text cursor. This is caused by a strange ioctl(..., KDSETMODE,
KD_TEXT) call done by something in userspace, perhaps by X itself, while the
tty is still in graphics mode. And when the tty is in KD_TEXT mode, the
cursor timer is restarted.
Although this is a userspace problem, we can work around it by delaying the
restart of the cursor timer until an fbcon_switch() is called. In other
words, the cursor timer will not be restarted even if a KD_TEXT mode switch is
requested.

ps3fb: Enhance horizontal panning on firmware 1.90 and up:
- On firmware 1.90 and up, L1GPU_CONTEXT_ATTRIBUTE_FB_BLIT supports copying
rectangles from XDR to DDR memory with different source and destination
line lengths. Hence larger horizontal virtual resolutions can be supported
(up to 16368 pixels).
- As the actual frame buffer memory layout no longer matches the entries in

PS3FB_IOCTL_SCREENINFO ioctl, so user space applications that depend on it
keep on working.

The i.MX frame-buffer read operation should be faster for all configurations
then drawing each individual character again in response to scroll events.
The nonstandard fields allows to configure frame-buffer special options flags
for different display configurations by board specific initialization code.
One of such specific options is reversed order of pixels in each individual
byte. i.MX frame-buffer seems to be designed for big-endian use first. The
byte order is correctly configured for little-endian ordering, but if 1, 2 or
4 bits per pixel are used, pixels ordering is incompatible to Linux generic
frame-buffer drawing functions.
The patch "Allow generic BitBLT functions to work with swapped pixel order in
bytes" introduces required functionality into FBDEV core. The pixels ordering
selection has to be enabled at compile time CONFIG_FB_CFB_REV_PIXELS_IN_BYTE
and for each display configuration which requires it by flag
FB_NONSTD_REV_PIX_IN_B in "nonstd" field of info structure.
This patch provides way for board specific code to select this option.

Various console drivers are able to resize the screen via the con_resize()
hook. This hook is also visible in userspace via the TIOCWINSZ, VT_RESIZE and
VT_RESIZEX ioctl's. One particular utility, SVGATextMode, expects that
con_resize() of the VGA console will always return success even if the
resulting screen is not compatible with the hardware. However, this
particular behavior of the VGA console, as reported in Kernel Bugzilla Bug
7513, can cause undefined behavior if the user starts with a console size
larger than 80x25.
To work around this problem, add an extra parameter to con_resize(). This
parameter is ignored by drivers except for vgacon. If this parameter is
non-zero, then the resize request came from a VT_RESIZE or VT_RESIZEX ioctl
and vgacon will always return success. If this parameter is zero, vgacon will
return -EINVAL if the requested size is not compatible with the hardware. The
latter is the more correct behavior.
With this change, SVGATextMode should still work correctly while in-kernel and
stty resize calls can expect correct behavior from vgacon.

There are a few nvidia hardware where the i2c port assignments are reversed,
i.e., the 1st i2c port is assigned to the secondary display and the 2nd i2c
port to the primary display. In most cases, if only 1 display is attached, or
if only 1 flatpanel and 1 analog display is attached, the port reversal is of
no consequence. However if 2 flatpanels are attached, it can cause display
problems.
There is no sane way of determining if the hardware reversed the i2c port
assignment, so the simplest fix is to add a boot/module option, "reverse_i2c
to explicitly reverse the i2c port.
This also restores i2c ordering back to the pre-2.6.22 state.

This patch adds support for the other three palette formats possible with
the PXA LCD controller. This is required on boards where an LCD is connected
with all its 18 bits. With this patch, it's possible to use an 8-bit mode
with 18-bit palette entries. This used to be possible in 2.4 kernels but
disappeared in 2.6. With current kernels, you can only get wrong colours
out of an LCD connected this way.
Users can choose the palette format by doing something like this
in their board definition:
static struct pxafb_mach_info my_fb_info = {
[...]
.lccr3 = LCCR3_OutEnH | LCCR3_PixFlEdg | LCCR3_PDFOR_3,
.lccr4 = LCCR4_PAL_FOR_2,

uvesafb is an enhanced version of vesafb. It uses a userspace helper (v86d)
to execute calls to the x86 Video BIOS functions. The driver is not limited
to any specific arch and whether it works on a given arch or not depends on
that arch being supported by the userspace daemon. It has been tested on
x86_32 and x86_64.
A single BIOS call is represented by an instance of the uvesafb_ktask
structure. This structure contains a buffer, a completion struct and a
uvesafb_task substructure, containing the values of the x86 registers, a flags
field and a field indicating the length of the buffer. Whenever a BIOS call
is made in the driver, uvesafb_exec() builds a message using the uvesafb_task
substructure and the contents of the buffer. This message is then assigned a
random ack number and sent to the userspace daemon using the connector
interface.
The message's sequence number is used as an index for the uvfb_tasks array,
which provides a mapping from the messages coming from userspace to the
in-kernel uvesafb_ktask structs.
The userspace daemon performs the requested operation and sends a reply in the
form of a uvesafb_task struct and, optionally, a buffer. The seq and ack
numbers in the reply should be exactly the same as those in the request.
Each message from userspace is processed by uvesafb_cn_callback() and after
passing a few sanity checks leads to the completion of a BIOS call request.

This patch adds support for powering on and off the Samsung LTV350QV LCD

After fixing the too small memory allocation in cr_backlight_probe()
from drivers/video/backlight/cr_bllcd.c
(commit e3bbb3f053) I noticed that the
Coverity checker also thought there were a few memory leaks in there.
I took a closer look and confirmed that there were indeed several
leaks.
At the start of the function we allocate storage for a
'struct cr_panel' and store the pointer in a variable named 'crp'.
Then we call pci_get_device() and pci_read_config_byte() and if
either of them fail we return without freeing the memory allocated
for the 'struct cr_panel'. These two leaks are easy to fix since we
don't even use 'crp' for anything up to this point, so I simply
moved the allocation further down in the function so it only happens
just before we actually need it.
A bit further down we call backlight_device_register() and store the
result in 'crp->cr_backlight_device'. In case of error we return
'crp->cr_backlight_device' from the function, thus leaking 'crp'
itself. The same thing happens with the call to lcd_device_register().
To fix these two leaks I declare two new pointers to hold the return
values, so that in case of error we can return the pointer (as before)
but without leaking 'crp'.
This version of the patch also adds missing
backlight_device_unregister() / lcd_device_unregister() / pci_dev_put()
calls to error paths.

Three main sets of changes:
1) dmi_get_system_info() return value should have been marked const,
since callers should not be changing that data.
2) const-ify DMI internals, since DMI firmware tables should,
whenever possible, be marked const to ensure we never ever write to
that data area.
3) const-ify DMI API, to enable marking tables const where possible
in low-level drivers.
And if we're really lucky, this might enable some additional
optimizations on the part of the compiler.
The bulk of the changes are #2 and #3, which are interrelated. #1 could
have been a separate patch, but it was so small compared to the others,
it was easier to roll it into this changeset.

The pixel clock (and thus both H and V sync) will be slower than requested, so

permit, the Standard PLL otherwise. The max pixel clock for the panellink

Visualize-EG, Graffiti and A4450A graphics cards on PARISC can
be configured in double-buffer and standard mode, but the stifb
driver supports standard mode only.
This patch detects double-buffered cards more reliable.
It is a real bugfix for a very nasty problem for all parisc users which have
wrongly configured their graphic card. The problem: The stifb graphics driver
will not detect that the card is wrongly configured and then nevertheless just
enables the graphics mode, which it shouldn't. In the end, the user will see
no further updates / boot messages on the screen.
We had documented this problem already on our FAQ
(http://parisc-linux.org/faq/index.html#viseg "Why do I get corrupted graphics

struct fb_info info;
struct foo_par par;

struct all_info *all = kzalloc(sizeof(*all), GFP_KERNEL);
all->info.par = &all->par;
etc. etc. code sequence, basically replicating the provided
framebuffer_alloc()/framebuffer_release(), and doing it badly.
Not only is this massive code duplication, it also caused a
bug in that we weren't setting the fb_info->device pointer

Fix following section mismatch warning:
WARNING: vmlinux.o(.text+0x121e62): Section mismatch: reference to .init.text:__alloc_bootmem (between 'vgacon_startup' and 'vgacon_scrolldelta')
Browsing the code it seems that vgacon_scrollback_startup() is only called
during the init phase so the reference to the .init.text section is OK.
Teach modpost not to warn using ___init_refok.

The current scheme works on static interpretation of text names, which
is wrong.
The output-device setting, for example, must be resolved via an alias
or similar to a full path name to the console device.
Paths also contain an optional set of 'options', which starts with a
colon at the end of the path. The option area is used to specify
which of two serial ports ('a' or 'b') the path refers to when a
device node drives multiple ports. 'a' is assumed if the option
specification is missing.
This was caught by the UltraSPARC-T1 simulator. The 'output-device'
property was set to 'ttya' and we didn't pick upon the fact that this
is an OBP alias set to '/virtual-devices/console'. Instead we saw it
as the first serial console device, instead of the hypervisor console.
The infrastructure is now there to take advantage of this to resolve
the console correctly even in multi-head situations in fbcon too.

The Cell Broadband Engine contains a 64-bit PowerPC core with 2 hardware
threads (called PPEs) and 8 Synergistic Processing Engines (called SPEs).
When booting Linux, 2 penguins logos are shown on the graphical console by
the standard frame buffer console logo code.
To emphasize the existence of the SPEs (which can be used under Linux), we
added a second row of (smaller) helper penguin logos, one for each SPE.
A sample screenshot can be found at

The SH board that was the only user for this code was removed entirely from
the kernel quite some time ago, so there's no reason to leave the stubs in
place. Additionally this driver was completely broken anyways, so there's
not really a lot of point in fixing it up either.
I can't imagine that this driver gets any testing on ARM either, given that
FB_BLANK_UNBLANKING doesn't exist, and kills the build regardless of which
platform is compiling. This fixes that, too.
It wouldn't be a lot of work to finish the platform device conversion and
go with a generic 8-bit read/write_reg and kill off the architecture
dependence completely, should someone have any use for this driver.
