The 8250_fintek.c is support the Fintek F81866/F81216 with dynamic clock.
But It'll generate "division by zero" exception and crash in
fintek_8250_set_termios() with baud rate 0 on baudrate_table[i] % baud.
It can be tested with following C code:
...
struct termios options;
tcgetattr(fd, &options);
...
options.c_cflag = CS8 | CREAD; /* baud rate 0 */
tcsetattr(fd, TCSANOW, &options);
tcflush(fd, TCIOFLUSH);

Hardware does not support having the same RTS level during RX and TX
when RS485 mode is on (URA in Fintek terminology).
The manufacturer has also confirmed that the delays are not enabled if
the RS485 mode is not enabled.
Therefore we should return -EINVAL if the user wants to have the same
value for RTS_ON_SEND and RTS_AFTER_SEND.

Canceling hrtimer when holding uart spinlock can deadlock.
CPU0: syscall write
-> get uart port spinlock
-> write uart
-> start_tx_rs485
-> hrtimer_cancel
-> wait for hrtimer callback to finish
CPU1: hrtimer IRQ
-> run hrtimer
-> em485_handle_stop_tx
-> get uart port spinlock
CPU0 is waiting for the hrtimer callback to finish, but the hrtimer
callback running on CPU1 is waiting to get the uart port spinlock.
This deadlock can be avoided by not canceling the hrtimers in these paths.
Setting active_timer=NULL can be done without accessing hrtimer,
and that will effectively cancel operations that would otherwise have been
performed by the hrtimer callback.

the user has passed in invalid data with the TIOCSRS485 ioctl()
since RTS must have a different polarity when sending and when not
sending. In this case, rs485 mode is not enabled (the RS485_URA bit
is not set in the RS485 Enable Register) and this is supposed to be
signaled back to the user by clearing the SER_RS485_ENABLED bit in
struct serial_rs485 ... except a missing tilde character is preventing

The SCSCR register access in sci_break_ctl() is not locked.
sci_start_tx() and sci_set_termios() changes the SCSCR register,
but does not lock sci_port.
Therefore, this patch adds lock during register access.
Also, remove the log output that leads to a double lock.
Some analysis of where locks are not taken is as follows.
It appears that the lock is not taken in:
- sci_start_tx(), sci_stop_tx() as this is installed as a callback.
And all callers of the callback take the lock.
- start_rx as callers take the lock.
- stop_rx. this is both installed as a callback and called directly.
In both cases the caller takes the lock.

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270

and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

Serdev currently only supports a single slave device, but the required
sanity checks to prevent further registration attempts were missing.
If a serial-port node has two child nodes with compatible properties,
the OF code would try to register two slave devices using the same id
and name. Driver core will not allow this (and there will be loud
complaints), but the controller's slave pointer would already have been
set to address of the soon to be deallocated second struct
serdev_device. As the first slave device remains registered, this can
lead to later use-after-free issues when the slave callbacks are
accessed.
Note that while the serdev registration helpers are exported, they are
typically only called by serdev core. Any other (out-of-tree) callers
must serialise registration and deregistration themselves.

While the standard UART port can use a single IRQ that 'sums' both RX
and TX interrupts, the extended port cannot and has to use two different
ISR, one for each direction. The standard port also has the hability
to use two separate interrupts (one for each direction).
The logic is then: either there is only one unnamed interrupt on the
standard port and this interrupt must be used for both directions
(this is legacy bindings); or all the interrupts must be described and
named 'uart-sum' (if available), 'uart-rx', 'uart-tx' and two separate
handlers for each direction will be used.

In con_font_set(), when we need to guess font height (for
compat reasons?), the current approach uses multiple userspace
fetches, i.e., get_user(tmp, &charmap[32*i+h-1]), to derive
the height. This has two drawbacks:
1. performance: accessing userspace memory is less efficient than
directly de-reference the byte
2. security: a more critical problem is that the height derived
might not match with the actual font.data. This is because a user
thread might race condition to change the memory of op->data after
the op->height guessing but before the second fetch: font.data =
memdup_user(op->data, size). Leaving font.height = 32 while the
actual height is 1 or vice-versa.
This patch tries to resolve both issues by re-locating the height
guessing part after the font.data is fetched in. In this way, the
userspace data is fetched in one shot and we directly dereference
the font.data in kernel space to probe for the height.

We have seen NULL-pointer dereference crashes in tty->disc_data when the
N_TTY fallback driver failed to open during hangup. The immediate cause
of this open to fail has been addressed in the preceding patch to
vmalloc(), but this code could be more robust.
As Alan pointed out in commit 8a8dabf2dd ("tty: handle the case where
we cannot restore a line discipline"), the N_TTY driver, historically
the safe fallback that could never fail, can indeed fail, but the
surrounding code is not prepared to handle this. To avoid crashes he
added a new N_NULL driver to take N_TTY's place as the last resort.
Hook that fallback up to the hangup path. Update tty_ldisc_reinit() to
reflect the reality that n_tty_open can indeed fail.

Currently dw8250_set_termios sets the input clock to the nearest
achievable rate to baudx16. If necessary, the input clock is then
divided down to baudx16 using an integer divider within the UART
device, with the divisor calculated in the 8250 core driver.
However, the clock rate set by dw8250_set_termios and subsequently
divided down could be considerably different to the target baudx16
rate, resulting in incorrect operation. This patch fixes this by
iteratively searching for an input clock rate that is within +/-1.6%
of an integer multiple of the target baudx16 rate.

uses RX_BUF_SIZE (which is currently defined as PAGE_SIZE) to describe

The variable dma_is_rxing is currently set to 1 in imx_disable_rx_int().
This is problematic as:
- whilst imx_disable_rx_int() is currently always called before
start_rx_dma() this dependency isn't obvious.
- start_rx_dma() does error checking and might exit without
enabling DMA. Currently this will result in dma_is_rxing suggesting
that DMA is being used for recieving.
To avoid these issues, move the setting of dma_is_rxing to
start_rx_dma() when appropriate.

UART core function uart_update_mctrl relies on a cached value of
modem control lines. This was used but not updated by local RTS
control functions within imx.c. These are used for RS485 line
driver enable signalling. Having an out-of-date value in the cached
mctrl can result in the transmitter being enabled when it shouldn't
be.
Fix this by updating the mctrl value before applying it.

Since commit a6d7514b14 ("tty: serial: lpuart: add a more accurate baud
rate calculation method") the baud rate is now calculated inside the
lpuart32_serial_setbrg() function, so we no longer need to read the
UARTBAUD register inside lpuart32_set_termios().
The 'bd' variable can be simply removed.
This fixes the following build warning with W=1:

Issue where unprintable characters can occur or output is cut off over
the serial uart / linux console depending on timing.
Problem occurs when changing the serial baud rate when setting up the
new console. The bcm63xx driver does a disable and flush of the uart tx
fifo while there is data still in the tx fifo.
If the tx fifo still has data it is trying to send out, we need to wait
until it is empty before disabling and flushing the uart.
When we now go to change the uart parameters including speed we check
if there is data currently in the tx fifo.If there is was mdelay(10)
and check again. If it tries 3 times and still has data in it we just
continue and sacrifice the tx fifo buffer.
A cleaner and more preferred approach would be to remove :
- spin_lock_irqsave()
- bcm_uart_disable()
- bcm_uart_flush()
However it is not clear if the author put those in to fix another
underlying issue. As a result this solution is a safer approach.
Output before the fix:
[0.306000] 14e00520.serial: ttyS0 at MMIO 0x14e00520 (irq = 9, base_baud = 1687500) is a° 0.315000] console[ttyS0] enabled

Paul reported, that low rates like B300 make the driver to hang in
mxser_wait_until_sent. His debugging tackled the issue down to the
info->timeout computation in mxser_set_baud. Obviously, ints are used
there and they easily overflow with these low rates: B300 makes
info->timeout to be -373.
So switch all these types to unsigned as it ought to be. And use the u64
domain to perform the computation as in the worst case, we need 35 bits
to store the computed value (before division).
And use do_div not to break 32 bit kernels.

Nothing really major this release, despite quite a lot of activity. Just lots of
things all over the place.
Some things of note include:
- Access via perf to a new type of PMU (IMC) on Power9, which can count both
core events as well as nest unit events (Memory controller etc).
- Optimisations to the radix MMU TLB flushing, mostly to avoid unnecessary Page
Walk Cache (PWC) flushes when the structure of the tree is not changing.
- Reworks/cleanups of do_page_fault() to modernise it and bring it closer to
other architectures where possible.
- Rework of our page table walking so that THP updates only need to send IPIs
to CPUs where the affected mm has run, rather than all CPUs.
- The size of our vmalloc area is increased to 56T on 64-bit hash MMU systems.
This avoids problems with the percpu allocator on systems with very sparse
NUMA layouts.
- STRICT_KERNEL_RWX support on PPC32.
- A new sched domain topology for Power9, to capture the fact that pairs of
cores may share an L2 cache.
- Power9 support for VAS, which is a new mechanism for accessing coprocessors,
and initial support for using it with the NX compression accelerator.
- Major work on the instruction emulation support, adding support for many new
instructions, and reworking it so it can be used to implement the emulation
needed to fixup alignment faults.
- Support for guests under PowerVM to use the Power9 XIVE interrupt controller.
And probably that many things again that are almost as interesting, but I had to
keep the list short. Plus the usual fixes and cleanups as always.

There is also the addition of the obiligatory new wifi driver, just

Pull x86 asm updates from Ingo Molnar:
- Introduce the ORC unwinder, which can be enabled via
CONFIG_ORC_UNWINDER=y.
The ORC unwinder is a lightweight, Linux kernel specific debuginfo
implementation, which aims to be DWARF done right for unwinding.
Objtool is used to generate the ORC unwinder tables during build, so
the data format is flexible and kernel internal: there's no
dependency on debuginfo created by an external toolchain.
The ORC unwinder is almost two orders of magnitude faster than the
(out of tree) DWARF unwinder - which is important for perf call graph
profiling. It is also significantly simpler and is coded defensively:
there has not been a single ORC related kernel crash so far, even
with early versions. (knock on wood!)
But the main advantage is that enabling the ORC unwinder allows
CONFIG_FRAME_POINTERS to be turned off - which speeds up the kernel
measurably:
With frame pointers disabled, GCC does not have to add frame pointer
instrumentation code to every function in the kernel. The kernel's
.text size decreases by about 3.2%, resulting in better cache
utilization and fewer instructions executed, resulting in a broad
kernel-wide speedup. Average speedup of system calls should be
roughly in the 1-3% range - measurements by Mel Gorman [1] have shown
a speedup of 5-10% for some function execution intense workloads.
The main cost of the unwinder is that the unwinder data has to be
stored in RAM: the memory cost is 2-4MB of RAM, depending on kernel
config - which is a modest cost on modern x86 systems.
Given how young the ORC unwinder code is it's not enabled by default
- but given the performance advantages the plan is to eventually make
it the default unwinder on x86.
See Documentation/x86/orc-unwinder.txt for more details.

Add early console functionality to the Goldfish tty driver.
When 'earlycon' kernel command line parameter is used with no options,
the early console is determined by the 'stdout-path' property in device
tree's 'chosen' node. This is illustrated in the following device tree
source example:
Device tree example:
chosen {
stdout-path = "/goldfish_tty@1f004000";
};
goldfish_tty@1f004000 {
interrupts = <0xc>;
reg = <0x1f004000 0x0 0x1000>;
compatible = "google,goldfish-tty";

Implement tty r/w operations using streaming DMA.
Goldfish tty for Ranchu platforms has been modified to use
streaming DMA mappings for read/write operations. This change
eliminates the need for snooping through the TLB in QEMU using
cpu_get_phys_page_debug() which does not guarantee that it will
return the valid va -> pa mapping.
The streaming DMA mapping is implemented using dma_map_single() per
transfer, while dma_unmap_single() is used for unmapping right after
the DMA transfer.
Using DMA API is the proper way for handling r/w transfers and
makes this driver more portable, thus effectively eliminating
the need for virt_to_page() and page_to_phys() conversions.
This change does not affect the old style Goldfish tty behaviour
which is still used by the Goldfish emulator. Version register has
been added and probed to see which platform is running this driver.
Reading from the new register GOLDFISH_TTY_REG_VERSION using the
Goldfish emulator will return 0 and driver will work with virtual
addresses. Whereas if run on Ranchu it returns 1, and thus DMA is
used.
(Goldfish and Ranchu are code names for the first and the second
generation of virtual boards used by Android emulator.)

Classify constants GOLDFISH_TTY_xxx into two groups: command ids and
register offsets. Apply different naming for register offsets (add
'REG_' after 'GOLDFISH_TTY_' in constant names). Change implementation
to use preprocessor's '#define' statements instead of 'enum'
declaration (as this is more common way of implementation in such
cases).
This makes the driver code easier to follow and hopefully prevents
future bugs.

For now baud field of earlycon structure device is't initialised at all
in of_setup_earlycon (in oppositе to register_earlycon).
So when I use stdout-path to point earlycon device
(like stdout-path = &serial or stdout-path = "serial:115200n8")
baud field of earlycon device structure remains uninitialised and
earlycon initialization is not performed correctly as
of_setup_earlycon is used.
When pass all arguments via bootargs
(like bootargs = "earlycon=uart8250,mmio32,0xf0005000,115200n8")
initialization is performed correctly as register_earlycon is used.
So initialise baud field of earlycon device structure by value of

This patch adds "tty-index" field to /proc/PID/fdinfo/N if N
specifies /dev/ptmx. The field shows the index of associative
slave pts.
Though a minor number is given for each pts instance, ptmx is not.
It means there is no way in user-space to know the association between
file descriptors for pts/n and ptmx. (n = 0, 1, ...)
This is different from pipe. About pipe such association can be solved
by inode of pipefs.
Providing the way to know the association between pts/n and ptmx helps
users understand the status of running system. lsof can utilize this field.

The commit 12e84c71b7 ("tty: export tty_open_by_driver") exports
tty_open_by_device to allow tty to be opened from inside kernel which
works fine except that it doesn't handle contention with user space or
another kernel-space open of the same tty. For example, opening a tty
from user space while it is kernel opened results in failure and a
kernel log message about mismatch between tty->count and tty's file
open count.
This patch makes kernel access to tty exclusive, so that if a user
process or kernel opens a kernel opened tty, it gets -EBUSY. It does
this by adding TTY_KOPENED flag to tty->flags. When this flag is set,
tty_open_by_driver returns -EBUSY. Instead of overloading
tty_open_by_driver for both kernel and user space, this
patch creates a separate function tty_kopen which closely follows
tty_open_by_driver. tty_kclose closes the tty opened by tty_kopen.
To address the mismatch between tty->count and #fd's, this patch adds
#kopen's to the count before comparing it with tty->count. That way
check_tty_count reflects correct usage count.
Returning -EBUSY on tty open is a change in the interface. I have
tested this with minicom, picocom and commands like "echo foo >
/dev/ttyS0". They all correctly report "Device or resource busy" when
the tty is already kernel opened.

The implementation of TIOCGPTPEER has two issues.
When /dev/ptmx (as opposed to /dev/pts/ptmx) is opened the wrong
vfsmount is passed to dentry_open. Which results in the kernel displaying
the wrong pathname for the peer.
The second is simply by caching the vfsmount and dentry of the peer it leaves
them open, in a way they were not previously Which because of the inreased
reference counts can cause unnecessary behaviour differences resulting in
regressions.
To fix these move the ioctl into tty_io.c at a generic level allowing
the ioctl to have access to the struct file on which the ioctl is
being called. This allows the path of the slave to be derived when
opening the slave through TIOCGPTPEER instead of requiring the path to
the slave be cached. Thus removing the need for caching the path.
A new function devpts_ptmx_path is factored out of devpts_acquire and
used to implement a function devpts_mntget. The new function devpts_mntget
takes a filp to perform the lookup on and fsi so that it can confirm
that the superblock that is found by devpts_ptmx_path is the proper superblock.
v2: Lots of fixes to make the code actually work
v3: Suggestions by Linus
- Removed the unnecessary initialization of filp in ptm_open_peer
- Simplified devpts_ptmx_path as gotos are no longer required

This reverts commit c8c03f1858.
It turns out that while fixing the ptmx file descriptor to have the
correct 'struct path' to the associated slave pty is a really good
thing, it breaks some user space tools for a very annoying reason.
The problem is that /dev/ptmx and its associated slave pty (/dev/pts/X)
are on different mounts. That was what caused us to have the wrong path
in the first place (we would mix up the vfsmount of the 'ptmx' node,
with the dentry of the pty slave node), but it also means that now while
we use the right vfsmount, having the pty master open also keeps the pts
mount busy.
And it turn sout that that makes 'pbuilder' very unhappy, as noted by
Stefan Lippers-Hollmann:
"This patch introduces a regression for me when using pbuilder
0.228.7[2] (a helper to build Debian packages in a chroot and to
create and update its chroots) when trying to umount /dev/ptmx (inside
the chroot) on Debian/ unstable (full log and pbuilder configuration
file[3] attached).
[...]
Setting up build-essential (12.3) ...
Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.24-15) ...
I: unmounting dev/ptmx filesystem
W: Could not unmount dev/ptmx: umount: /var/cache/pbuilder/build/1340/dev/ptmx: target is busy
(In some cases useful info about processes that
use the device is found by lsof(8) or fuser(1).)"
apparently pbuilder tries to unmount the /dev/pts filesystem while still
holding at least one master node open, which is arguably not very nice,
but we don't break user space even when fixing other bugs.
So this commit has to be reverted.
I'll try to figure out a way to avoid caching the path to the slave pty
in the master pty. The only thing that actually wants that slave pty
path is the "TIOCGPTPEER" ioctl, and I think we could just recreate the
path at that time.

Christian Brauner reported that if you use the TIOCGPTPEER ioctl() to
get a slave pty file descriptor, the resulting file descriptor doesn't
look right in /proc/<pid>/fd/<fd>. In particular, he wanted to use
readlink() on /proc/self/fd/<fd> to get the pathname of the slave pty
(basically implementing "ptsname{_r}()").
The reason for that was that we had generated the wrong 'struct path'
when we create the pty in ptmx_open().
In particular, the dentry was correct, but the vfsmount pointed to the
mount of the ptmx node. That _can_ be correct - in case you use
"/dev/pts/ptmx" to open the master - but usually is not. The normal
case is to use /dev/ptmx, which then looks up the pts/ directory, and
then the vfsmount of the ptmx node is obviously the /dev directory, not
the /dev/pts/ directory.
We actually did have the right vfsmount available, but in the wrong
place (it gets looked up in 'devpts_acquire()' when we get a reference
to the pts filesystem), and so ptmx_open() used the wrong mnt pointer.
The end result of this confusion was that the pty worked fine, but when
if you did TIOCGPTPEER to get the slave side of the pty, end end result
would also work, but have that dodgy 'struct path'.
And then when doing "d_path()" on to get the pathname, the vfsmount
would not match the root of the pts directory, and d_path() would return
an empty pathname thinking that the entry had escaped a bind mount into
another mount.
This fixes the problem by making devpts_acquire() return the vfsmount
for the pts filesystem, allowing ptmx_open() to trivially just use the
right mount for the pts dentry, and create the proper 'struct path'.

For debugging very early boot problems we have CONFIG_PPC_EARLY_DEBUG,
which allows configuring the kernel such that it unconditionally writes
to a particular type of console, regardless of whether that console
exists or not. This is useful sometimes when the kernel crashes before
it can even determine what platform it's on, and therefore what consoles
exist.
However if you boot a kernel built this way on a different platform, it
will generally crash because it writes to a console that doesn't exist.
A particularly nasty instance of this is if you enable the hypervisor
console early debug, and then boot that kernel on bare metal. The result
is that the kernel calls "the hypervisor" very early in boot, but the
kernel *is* the hypervisor, so we jump to the system call handler and
start executing all sorts of code that isn't ready to be run. This may
lead to a machine check or check stop depending on how lucky you are.
Luckily there is an easy way to avoid this particular case. We simply
read the MSR before installing the hooks, and if we see MSR_HV is set
then we are the hypervisor and we definitely should not use the
hypervisor console.

The work-around for Qualcomm Technologies QDF2400 Erratum 44 hinges on a
global variable defined in the pl011 driver. The ACPI SPCR parsing code
determines whether the work-around is needed, and if so, it changes the
console name from "pl011" to "qdf2400_e44". The expectation is that
the pl011 driver will implement the work-around when it sees the console
name. The global variable qdf2400_e44_present is set when that happens.
The problem is that work-around needs to be enabled when the pl011
driver probes, not when the console name is queried. However, sbsa_probe()
is called before pl011_console_match(). The work-around appeared to work
previously because the default console on QDF2400 platforms was always
ttyAMA1. The first time sbsa_probe() is called (for ttyAMA0),
qdf2400_e44_present is still false. Then pl011_console_match() is called,
and it sets qdf2400_e44_present to true. All subsequent calls to
sbsa_probe() enable the work-around.
The solution is to move the global variable into spcr.c and let the
pl011 driver query it during probe time. This works because all QDF2400
platforms require SPCR, so parse_spcr() will always be called.
pl011_console_match still checks for the "qdf2400_e44" console name,
but it doesn't do anything else special.

While working on improving the fast path of tty_insert_flip_char(),
I noticed that by calling tty_buffer_request_room(), we needlessly
move to the separate flag buffer mode for the tty, even when all
characters use TTY_NORMAL as the flag.
This changes the code to call __tty_buffer_request_room() with the
correct flag, which will then allocate a regular buffer when it rounds
out of space but no special flags have been used. I'm guessing that
this is the behavior that Peter Hurley intended when he introduced

kernelci.org reports a crazy stack usage for the VT code when CONFIG_KASAN

drivers/tty/vt/keyboard.c: In function 'kbd_keycode':
drivers/tty/vt/keyboard.c:1452:1: error: the frame size of 2240 bytes is larger than 2048 bytes [-Werror=frame-larger-than=]
The problem is that tty_insert_flip_char() gets inlined many times into
kbd_keycode(), and also into other functions, and each copy requires 128
bytes for stack redzone to check for a possible out-of-bounds access on
the 'ch' and 'flags' arguments that are passed into
tty_insert_flip_string_flags as a variable-length string.
This introduces a new __tty_insert_flip_char() function for the slow
path, which receives the two arguments by value. This completely avoids
the problem and the stack usage goes back down to around 100 bytes.
Without KASAN, this is also slightly better, as we don't have to
spill the arguments to the stack but can simply pass 'ch' and 'flag'
in registers, saving a few bytes in .text for each call site.
This should be backported to linux-4.0 or later, which first introduced
the stack sanitizer in the kernel.

On Spreadtrum's serial device, nearly all of interrupts would be cleared
by hardware except timeout interrupt. This patch removed the operation
of clearing all interrupt in irq handler, instead added an if statement
to check if the timeout interrupt is supposed to be cleared.
Wrongly clearing timeout interrupt would lead to uart data stay in rx
fifo, that means the driver cannot read them out anymore.

Commit 0d6fce9044 ("tty: serial: lpuart: introduce lpuart_soc_data to
represent SoC property") introduced a buggy logic for detecting the 32-bit
type UART since the condition: "if (sport->port.iotype & UPIO_MEM32BE)"
is always true.
Performing such bitfield AND operation is not correct, because in the
case of Vybrid UART iotype is UPIO_MEM (2), so:
UPIO_MEM & UPIO_MEM32BE = 010 & 110 = 010, which is true.
Such logic tells the driver to always treat the UART operations as 32-bit,
leading to the driver misbehavior on Vybrid.
Fix the 32-bit type detection logic to avoid UART breakage on Vybrid.
While at it, introduce a lpuart_is_32() function to help readability.

Function imx_transmit_buffer starts a TX DMA if DMA is enabled, since
commit 91a1a909f9 ("serial: imx: Support sw flow control in DMA mode").
It also carries on and attempts to write the same TX buffer using PIO.
This results in TX data corruption and double-incrementing xmit->tail
with the knock-on effect of tail passing head and a page of garbage
being sent out.
This seems to be triggered mostly when using RS485 half duplex on SMP
systems, but is probably not limited to just those.
Tested locally on an i.MX6Q with an RS485 half duplex transceiver on

Here is the big driver core update for 4.13-rc1.
The large majority of this is a lot of cleanup of old fields in the
driver core structures and their remaining usages in random drivers.
All of those fixes have been reviewed by the various subsystem

kobject uevent api interface that makes userspace interaction easier,
and a few other minor things.
All of these have been in linux-next for a long while with no reported

This implements the setup of RS232 and the switch-over to RS485 or RS422
for the Siemens IOT2040. That uses an EXAR XR17V352 with external logic
to switch between the different modes. The external logic is controlled
via MPIO pins of the EXAR controller.
Only pin 10 can be exported as GPIO on the IOT2040. It is connected to
an LED.
As the XR17V352 used on the IOT2040 is not equipped with an external
EEPROM, it cannot present itself as IOT2040-variant via subvendor/
subdevice IDs. Thus, we have to check via DMI for the target platform.

The lpuart of imx7ulp is basically the same as ls1021a. It's also
32 bit width register, but unlike ls1021a, it's little endian.
Besides that, imx7ulp lpuart has a minor different register layout
from ls1021a that it has four extra registers (verid, param, global,
pincfg) located at the beginning of register map, which are currently
not used by the driver and less to be used later.
To ease the register difference handling, we add a reg_off member
in lpuart_soc_data structure to represent if the normal

Due to the original lpuart32_read/write takes no port specific
information arguments, it's hard to distinguish port difference
within the API. Although it works before, but not suitable anymore
when adding more new chips support.
So let's convert it to accept a new struct uart_port argument
to make it be able to retrieve more port specific information.
This is a preparation for the later adding new chips support
more easily. No functions changes.

The size of the DMA buffer can affect the delta time between data being
produced and data being consumed. Basically the DMA system will move
data to tty buffer when a) DMA buffer is full b) serial line is idle.
The situation is visible when producer generates data continuously and
there is no possibility for idle line. At this point the DMA buffer is
directly affecting the delta time.
The patch will add the possibility to configure the DMA buffers in DT,
which case by case can be configured separately for every driver
instance. The DT configuration is optional and in case missing the
driver will use the 4096 buffer with 4 periods (as before), therefore no
clients are impacted by this change.

DMA RX completion handler for UART is called from a tasklet and hence
may be delayed depending on the system load. In meanwhile, there may be
RX timeout interrupt which can get serviced first before DMA RX
completion handler is executed for the completed transfer.
omap_8250_rx_dma_flush() which is called on RX timeout interrupt makes
sure that the DMA RX buffer is pushed and then the FIFO is drained and
also queues a new DMA request. But, when DMA RX completion handler
executes, it will erroneously flush the currently queued DMA transfer
which sometimes results in data corruption and double queueing of DMA RX
requests.
Fix this by checking whether RX completion is for the currently queued
transfer or not. And also hold port lock when in DMA completion to avoid
race wrt RX timeout handler preempting it.

The BCM2835 MINI UART has non-standard THRE semantics. Conventionally
the bit means that the FIFO is empty (although there may still be a
byte in the transmit register), but on 2835 it indicates that the FIFO
is not full. This causes interrupts after every byte is transmitted,
with the FIFO providing some interrupt latency tolerance.
A consequence of this difference is that the usual strategy of writing
multiple bytes into the TX FIFO after checking THRE once is unsafe.
In the worst case of 7 bytes in the FIFO, writing 8 bytes loses all
but the first since by then the FIFO is full.
There is an HFIFO ("Hidden FIFO") capability that causes the transmit
loop to terminate when both THRE and TEMT are set, i.e. when the TX
block is completely idle. This is unnecessarily cautious, potentially
causing gaps in transmission.
Add a new conditional to the transmit loop, predicated on CAP_MINI,
that exits when THRE is no longer set (the FIFO is full). This allows
the FIFO to fill quickly but subsequent writes are paced by the
transmission rate.

Rename:
wait_queue_t => wait_queue_entry_t
'wait_queue_t' was always a slight misnomer: its name implies that it's a "queue",
but in reality it's a queue *entry*. The 'real' queue is the wait queue head,
which had to carry the name.
Start sorting this out by renaming it to 'wait_queue_entry_t'.
This also allows the real structure name 'struct __wait_queue' to
lose its double underscore and become 'struct wait_queue_entry',
which is the more canonical nomenclature for such data types.

This fixes reloading of the GPIO driver for the same platform device
instance as created by the exar UART driver: First of all, the driver

drvdata after the driver left.

Setting an alt_speed using the ROCKET_SPD flags has been deprecated
since v2.1.69, and has been broken since commit 6865ff222c ("TTY: do
not warn about setting speed via SPD_*") without anyone noticing.
To make things worse commit 6df3526b66 ("rocket: first pass at termios
reporting") in v2.6.25 started reporting back the actual baud rate used,
something which also required 38400 to again be set whenever changing a
SPD flag.
Drop the broken alt-speed handling altogether, and add a ratelimited
warning about using TIOCCSERIAL to change speed as being deprecated.
Note that the rocket driver has never supported using a custom divisor
(ASYNC_SPD_CUST equivalent).

When opening the slave end of a PTY, it is not possible for userspace to
safely ensure that /dev/pts/$num is actually a slave (in cases where the
mount namespace in which devpts was mounted is controlled by an
untrusted process). In addition, there are several unresolvable
race conditions if userspace were to attempt to detect attacks through
stat(2) and other similar methods [in addition it is not clear how
userspace could detect attacks involving FUSE].
Resolve this by providing an interface for userpace to safely open the
"peer" end of a PTY file descriptor by using the dentry cached by
devpts. Since it is not possible to have an open master PTY without
having its slave exposed in /dev/pts this interface is safe. This
interface currently does not provide a way to get the master pty (since
it is not clear whether such an interface is safe or even useful).

Actually, at the moment this is not an issue, as every in-tree arch does
the same manual checks for VERIFY_READ vs VERIFY_WRITE, relying on the MMU
