Jason Gunthorpe 8e54caf407 tpm: Provide a generic means to override the chip returned timeouts
Some Atmel TPMs provide completely wrong timeouts from their

Jason Gunthorpe f07a5e9a33 tpm: Add missing tpm_do_selftest to ST33 I2C driver
Most device drivers do call 'tpm_do_selftest' which executes a
TPM_ContinueSelfTest. tpm_i2c_stm_st33 is just pointlessly different,
I think it is bug.

These days we have the general assumption that the TPM is usable by
the kernel immediately after the driver is finished, so we can no
longer defer the mandatory self test to userspace.

Amit Shah eeec626366 Revert "hwrng: virtio - ensure reads happen after successful probe"
This reverts commit e052dbf554.

Now that we use the virtio ->scan() function to register with the hwrng
core, we will not get read requests till probe is successfully finished.

So revert the workaround we had in place to refuse read requests while
we were not yet setup completely.

Amit Shah 5c06273401 virtio: rng: delay hwrng_register() till driver is ready
Instead of calling hwrng_register() in the probe routing, call it in the
scan routine. This ensures that when hwrng_register() is successful,
and it requests a few random bytes to seed the kernel's pool at init,
we're ready to service that request.

This will also enable us to remove the workaround added previously to
check whether probe was completed, and only then ask for data from the
host. The revert follows in the next commit.

There's a slight behaviour change here on unsuccessful hwrng_register().
Previously, when hwrng_register() failed, the probe() routine would
fail, and the vqs would be torn down, and driver would be marked not
initialized. Now, the vqs will remain initialized, driver would be
marked initialized as well, but won't be available in the list of RNGs
available to hwrng core. To fix the failures, the procedure remains the
same, i.e. unload and re-load the module, and hope things succeed the
next time around.

Hannes Frederic Sowa 79a8468747 random: check for increase of entropy_count because of signed conversion
The expression entropy_count -= ibytes << (ENTROPY_SHIFT + 3) could
actually increase entropy_count if during assignment of the unsigned
expression on the RHS (mind the -=) we reduce the value modulo

Theodore Ts'o ee3e00e9e7 random: use registers from interrupted code for CPU's w/o a cycle counter
For CPU's that don't have a cycle counter, or something equivalent
which can be used for random_get_entropy(), random_get_entropy() will
always return 0. In that case, substitute with the saved interrupt
registers to add a bit more unpredictability.

Some folks have suggested hashing all of the registers
unconditionally, but this would increase the overhead of
add_interrupt_randomness() by at least an order of magnitude, and this
would very likely be unacceptable.

The changes in this commit have been benchmarked as mostly unaffecting
the overhead of add_interrupt_randomness() if the entropy counter is
present, and doubling the overhead if it is not present.

Torsten Duwe be4000bc46 hwrng: create filler thread
This can be viewed as the in-kernel equivalent of hwrngd;
like FUSE it is a good thing to have a mechanism in user land,
but for some reasons (simplicity, secrecy, integrity, speed)
it may be better to have it in kernel space.

This patch creates a thread once a hwrng registers, and uses
the previously established add_hwgenerator_randomness() to feed
its data to the input pool as long as needed. A derating factor
is used to bias the entropy estimation and to disable this
mechanism entirely when set to zero.

Amit Shah e052dbf554 hwrng: virtio - ensure reads happen after successful probe
The hwrng core asks for random data in the hwrng_register() call itself
from commit d9e7972619. This doesn't play well with virtio -- the
DRIVER_OK bit is only set by virtio core on a successful probe, and
we're not yet out of our probe routine when this call is made. This
causes the host to not acknowledge any requests we put in the virtqueue,
and the insmod or kernel boot process just waits for data to arrive from
the host, which never happens.

Commit d9e7972619 "hwrng: add randomness to system from rng sources"
added a call to rng_get_data() from the hwrng_register() function.
However, some rng devices need initialization before data can be read
from them.

This commit makes the call to rng_get_data() depend on no init fn
pointer being registered by the device. If an init function is
registered, this call is made after device init.

Peter Hurley e359a4e38d tty: Remove tty_hung_up_p() tests from tty drivers' open()
Since at least before 2.6.30, it has not been possible to observe
a hung up file pointer in a tty driver's open() method unless/until
the driver open() releases the tty_lock() (eg., before blocking).

This is because tty_open() adds the file pointer while holding
the tty_lock() _and_ doesn't release the lock until after calling
the tty driver's open() method. [ Before tty_lock(), this was
lock_kernel(). ]

Since __tty_hangup() first waits on the tty_lock() before
enumerating and hanging up the open file pointers, either
__tty_hangup() will wait for the tty_lock() or tty_open() will
not yet have added the file pointer. For example,

CPU 0 | CPU 1
                               |
tty_open | __tty_hangup
  .. | ..
  tty_lock | ..
  tty_reopen | tty_lock / blocks

  .. |
  tty->ops->open(tty, filp)    |
    tty_port_open |
      tty_port_block_til_ready |
        .. |
        while (1)              |
          .. |
          tty_unlock | / unblocks
schedule | for each filp on tty->tty_files
                               |      f_ops = tty_hung_up_fops;
                               | ..
                               | tty_unlock
          tty_lock |
  .. |
  tty_unlock |

Note that since tty_port_block_til_ready() and similar drop
the tty_lock while blocking, when woken, the file pointer
must then be tested for having been hung up.

Also, fix bit-rotted drivers that used extra_count to track the
port->count bump.

Guenter Roeck b12ce5f24d i8k: Drop all labels
Labels are known to be wrong for several Dell laptops.
For example, a single fan may be shown as right fan when in reality
it sits on the left side of the chassis. Drop all labels to avoid
such inaccuracies. Users can select labels in the sensors configuration

Theodore Ts'o e33ba5fa7a random: fix nasty entropy accounting bug
Commit 0fb7a01af5 "random: simplify accounting code", introduced in
v3.15, has a very nasty accounting problem when the entropy pool has
has fewer bytes of entropy than the number of requested reserved
bytes. In that case, "have_bytes - reserved" goes negative, and since
size_t is unsigned, the expression:

       ibytes = min_t(size_t, ibytes, have_bytes - reserved);

... does not do the right thing. This is rather bad, because it
defeats the catastrophic reseeding feature in the
xfer_secondary_pool() path.

It also can cause the "BUG: spinlock trylock failure on UP" for some
kernel configurations when prandom_reseed() calls get_random_bytes()
in the early init, since when the entropy count gets corrupted,
credit_entropy_bits() erroneously believes that the nonblocking pool
has been fully initialized (when in fact it is not), and so it calls
prandom_reseed(true) recursively leading to the spinlock BUG.

The logic is *not* the same it was originally, but in the cases where
it matters, the behavior is the same, and the resulting code is
hopefully easier to read and understand.

Merge tag 'pm+acpi-3.16-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm into next

Pull ACPI and power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"ACPICA is the leader this time (63 commits), followed by cpufreq (28
  commits), devfreq (15 commits), system suspend/hibernation (12
commits), ACPI video and ACPI device enumeration (10 commits each).

We have no major new features this time, but there are a few
significant changes of how things work. The most visible one will
probably be that we are now going to create platform devices rather
than PNP devices by default for ACPI device objects with _HID. That
was long overdue and will be really necessary to be able to use the
same drivers for the same hardware blocks on ACPI and DT-based systems
going forward. We're not expecting fallout from this one (as usual),
but it's something to watch nevertheless.

The second change having a chance to be visible is that ACPI video
will now default to using native backlight rather than the ACPI
backlight interface which should generally help systems with broken
Win8 BIOSes. We're hoping that all problems with the native backlight
handling that we had previously have been addressed and we are in a
good enough shape to flip the default, but this change should be easy
enough to revert if need be.

In addition to that, the system suspend core has a new mechanism to
allow runtime-suspended devices to stay suspended throughout system
suspend/resume transitions if some extra conditions are met
(generally, they are related to coordination within device hierarchy).
However, enabling this feature requires cooperation from the bus type
layer and for now it has only been implemented for the ACPI PM domain
(used by ACPI-enumerated platform devices mostly today).

Also, the acpidump utility that was previously shipped as a separate
tool will now be provided by the upstream ACPICA along with the rest
of ACPICA code, which will allow it to be more up to date and better
supported, and we have one new cpuidle driver (ARM clps711x).

The rest is improvements related to certain specific use cases,
cleanups and fixes all over the place.

  Specifics:

   - ACPICA update to upstream version 20140424. That includes a number
of fixes and improvements related to things like GPE handling,
table loading, headers, memory mapping and unmapping, DSDT/SSDT

than PNP devices for ACPI device objects with _HID by default. PNP
devices will still be created for the ACPI device object with
device IDs corresponding to real PNP devices, so that change should
not break things left and right, and we're expecting to see more
and more ACPI-enumerated platform devices in the future. From
Zhang Rui and Rafael J Wysocki.

to handle system suspend/resume on Asus T100 correctly. From
Heikki Krogerus and Rafael J Wysocki.

Linus Torvalds 681a289548 Merge branch 'for-3.16/core' of git://git.kernel.dk/linux-block into next
Pull block core updates from Jens Axboe:
"It's a big(ish) round this time, lots of development effort has gone
into blk-mq in the last 3 months. Generally we're heading to where
3.16 will be a feature complete and performant blk-mq. scsi-mq is
progressing nicely and will hopefully be in 3.17. A nvme port is in
progress, and the Micron pci-e flash driver, mtip32xx, is converted
and will be sent in with the driver pull request for 3.16.

  This pull request contains:

   - Lots of prep and support patches for scsi-mq have been integrated.
     All from Christoph.

   - API and code cleanups for blk-mq from Christoph.

   - Lots of good corner case and error handling cleanup fixes for
     blk-mq from Ming Lei.

   - A flew of blk-mq updates from me:

     * Provide strict mappings so that the driver can rely on the CPU
to queue mapping. This enables optimizations in the driver.

     * Provided a bitmap tagging instead of percpu_ida, which never
really worked well for blk-mq. percpu_ida relies on the fact
that we have a lot more tags available than we really need, it
fails miserably for cases where we exhaust (or are close to
       exhausting) the tag space.

     * Provide sane support for shared tag maps, as utilized by scsi-mq

     * Various fixes for IO timeouts.

     * API cleanups, and lots of perf tweaks and optimizations.

   - Remove 'buffer' from struct request. This is ancient code, from
when requests were always virtually mapped. Kill it, to reclaim
some space in struct request. From me.

   - Remove 'magic' from blk_plug. Since we store these on the stack
and since we've never caught any actual bugs with this, lets just
get rid of it. From me.

   - Only call part_in_flight() once for IO completion, as includes two
atomic reads. Hopefully we'll get a better implementation soon, as
the part IO stats are now one of the more expensive parts of doing
     IO on blk-mq. From me.

   - File migration of block code from {mm,fs}/ to block/. This
     includes bio.c, bio-integrity.c, bounce.c, and ioprio.c. From me,
     from a discussion on lkml.

That should describe the meat of the pull request. Also has various
little fixes and cleanups from Dave Jones, Shaohua Li, Duan Jiong,
Fengguang Wu, Fabian Frederick, Randy Dunlap, Robert Elliott, and Sam
  Bradshaw"

Lv Zheng a238317ce8 ACPI: Clean up acpi_os_map/unmap_memory() to eliminate __iomem.
ACPICA doesn't include protections around address space checking, Linux
build tests always complain increased sparse warnings around ACPICA
internal acpi_os_map/unmap_memory() invocations. This patch tries to fix
this issue permanently.

There are 2 choices left for us to solve this issue:
 1. Add __iomem address space awareness into ACPICA.
 2. Remove sparse checker of __iomem from ACPICA source code.

This patch chooses solution 2, because:
 1. Most of the acpi_os_map/unmap_memory() invocations are used for ACPICA.
table mappings, which in fact are not IO addresses.
 2. The only IO addresses usage is for "system memory space" mapping code in:
      drivers/acpi/acpica/exregion.c
      drivers/acpi/acpica/evrgnini.c
      drivers/acpi/acpica/exregion.c
The mapped address is accessed in the handler of "system memory space"
    - acpi_ex_system_memory_space_handler(). This function in fact can be
changed to invoke acpi_os_read/write_memory() so that __iomem can
always be type-casted in the OSL layer.

According to the above investigation, we drew the following conclusion:
It is not a good idea to introduce __iomem address space awareness into
ACPICA mostly in order to protect non-IO addresses.

We can simply remove __iomem for acpi_os_map/unmap_memory() to remove
__iomem checker for ACPICA code. Then we need to enforce external usages
to invoke other APIs that are aware of __iomem address space.
The external usages are:
 drivers/acpi/apei/einj.c
 drivers/acpi/acpi_extlog.c
 drivers/char/tpm/tpm_acpi.c
 drivers/acpi/nvs.c

This patch thus performs cleanups in this way:
 1. Add acpi_os_map/unmap_iomem() to be invoked by non-ACPICA code.
 2. Remove __iomem from acpi_os_map/unmap_memory().

Rafael J. Wysocki f759546498 ACPI / TPM: Fix resume regression on Chromebooks
Chromebooks (at least Acer C720 and Pixel) implement an ACPI object
for TPM, but don't implement the _DSM method to support PPI. As
a result, the TPM driver fails to load on those machines after
commit 1569a4c4ce (ACPI / TPM: detect PPI features by checking
availability of _DSM functions) which causes them to fail to
resume from system suspend, becuase they require the TPM hardware
to be put into the right state during resume and the TPM driver
is necessary for that.

Fix the problem by making tpm_add_ppi() return 0 when tpm_ppi_handle
is still NULL after walking the ACPI namespace in search for the PPI
_DSM, which allows the TPM driver to load and operate the hardware
(during system resume in particular), but avoid creating the PPI
sysfs group in that case.

This change is based on a prototype patch from Jiang Liu.

Linus Torvalds c2896def97 Merge branch 'ipmi' (emailed ipmi fixes)
Merge ipmi fixes from Corey Minyard:
"Things collected since last kernel release.

Some of these are pretty important. The first three are bug fixes.
The next two are to hopefully make everyone happy about allowing
ACPI to be on all the time and not have IPMI have an effect on the
system when not in use. The last is a little cleanup"

* emailed patches from Corey Minyard <cminyard@mvista.com>:
  ipmi: boolify some things
ipmi: Turn off all activity on an idle ipmi interface
ipmi: Turn off default probing of interfaces
ipmi: Reset the KCS timeout when starting error recovery
ipmi: Fix a race restarting the timer

Corey Minyard 89986496de ipmi: Turn off all activity on an idle ipmi interface
The IPMI driver would wake up periodically looking for events and
watchdog pretimeouts. If there is nothing waiting for these events,
it's really kind of pointless to be checking for them. So modify the
driver so the message handler can pass down if it needs the lower layer
to be waiting for these. Modify the system interface lower layer to
turn off all timer and thread activity if the upper layer doesn't need
anything and it is not currently handling messages. And modify the
message handler to not restart the timer if its timer is not needed.

The timers and kthread will still be enabled if:
 - the SI interface is handling a message.
 - a user has enabled watching for events.
 - the IPMI watchdog timer is in use (since it uses pretimeouts).
 - the message handler is waiting on a remote response.
 - a user has registered to receive commands.

This mostly affects interfaces without interrupts. Interfaces with
interrupts already don't use CPU in the system interface when the
interface is idle.

Bodo Stroesser 48e8ac2979 ipmi: Fix a race restarting the timer
With recent changes it is possible for the timer handler to detect an
idle interface and not start the timer, but the thread to start an
operation at the same time. The thread will not start the timer in that
instance, resulting in the timer not running.

Instead, move all timer operations under the lock and start the timer in
the thread if it detect non-idle and the timer is not already running.
Moving under locks allows the last timeout to be set in both the thread
and the timer. 'Timer is not running' means that the timer is not
pending and smi_timeout() is not running. So we need a flag to detect
this correctly.

Also fix a few other timeout bugs: setting the last timeout when the
interrupt has to be disabled and the timer started, and setting the last
timeout in check_start_timer_thread possibly racing with the timer

Jiri Slaby a94cdd1f4d Char: ipmi_bt_sm, fix infinite loop
In read_all_bytes, we do

  unsigned char i;
  ...
  bt->read_data[0] = BMC2HOST;
  bt->read_count = bt->read_data[0];
  ...
  for (i = 1; i <= bt->read_count; i++)
    bt->read_data[i] = BMC2HOST;

If bt->read_data[0] == bt->read_count == 255, we loop infinitely in the
'for' loop. Make 'i' an 'int' instead of 'char' to get rid of the
overflow and finish the loop after 255 iterations every time.

Paul Bolle 8ece117104 hwrng: picoxcell - remove unbuildable picoxcell TRNG
The driver for the "Picochip picoXcell true random number generator" was
added in v2.6.39. Its Kconfig symbol has always depended on
PICOXCELL_PC3X3. But that Kconfig symbol has never been part of the
tree. This means this driver has never been buildable. Let's remove it.
It can be re-added if its dependencies are actually part of the tree.

Commit "d9e7972 hwrng: add randomness to system from rng sources"

on Raspberry Pi due to the following oops:

[ 28.261523] BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 23s! [swapper:1]

[ 28.302276] LR is at hwrng_register+0x1a8/0x238

The RNG h/w is not completely initialized and enabled before

Fix this by making the warmup/enable writes before registering

Uwe Kleine-König ce816fa88c Kconfig: rename HAS_IOPORT to HAS_IOPORT_MAP
If the renamed symbol is defined lib/iomap.c implements ioport_map and
ioport_unmap and currently (nearly) all platforms define the port
accessor functions outb/inb and friend unconditionally. So
HAS_IOPORT_MAP is the better name for this.

Consequently NO_IOPORT is renamed to NO_IOPORT_MAP.

The motivation for this change is to reintroduce a symbol HAS_IOPORT
that signals if outb/int et al are available. I will address that at
least one merge window later though to keep surprises to a minimum and
catch new introductions of (HAS|NO)_IOPORT.

The changes in this commit were done using:

	$ git grep -l -E '(NO|HAS)_IOPORT' | xargs perl -p -i -e 's/\b((?:CONFIG_)?(?:NO|HAS)_IOPORT)\b/$1_MAP/'

Linus Torvalds 64056a9425 Nothing exciting: virtio-blk users might see a bit of a boost from the
doubling of the default queue length though.

H. Peter Anvin 7b878d4b48 random: Add arch_has_random[_seed]()
Add predicate functions for having arch_get_random[_seed]*(). The
only current use is to avoid the loop in arch_random_refill() when
arch_get_random_seed_long() is unavailable.

H. Peter Anvin 331c6490c7 random: If we have arch_get_random_seed*(), try it before blocking
If we have arch_get_random_seed*(), try to use it for emergency refill
of the entropy pool before giving up and blocking on /dev/random. It
may or may not work in the moment, but if it does work, it will give
the user better service than blocking will.

H. Peter Anvin 83664a6928 random: Use arch_get_random_seed*() at init time and once a second
Use arch_get_random_seed*() in two places in the Linux random
driver (drivers/char/random.c):

1. During entropy pool initialization, use RDSEED in favor of RDRAND,
with a fallback to the latter. Entropy exhaustion is unlikely to
happen there on physical hardware as the machine is single-threaded
at that point, but could happen in a virtual machine. In that
case, the fallback to RDRAND will still provide more than adequate
   entropy pool initialization.

2. Once a second, issue RDSEED and, if successful, feed it to the
entropy pool. To ensure an extra layer of security, only credit
half the entropy just in case.

Theodore Ts'o 46884442fc random: use the architectural HWRNG for the SHA's IV in extract_buf()
To help assuage the fears of those who think the NSA can introduce a
massive hack into the instruction decode and out of order execution
engine in the CPU without hundreds of Intel engineers knowing about
it (only one of which woud need to have the conscience and courage of
Edward Snowden to spill the beans to the public), use the HWRNG to
initialize the SHA starting value, instead of xor'ing it in
afterwards.

Greg Price 0fb7a01af5 random: simplify accounting code
With this we handle "reserved" in just one place. As a bonus the
code becomes less nested, and the "wakeup_write" flag variable
becomes unnecessary. The variable "flags" was already unused.

This code behaves identically to the previous version except in
two pathological cases that don't occur. If the argument "nbytes"
is already less than "min", then we didn't previously enforce
"min". If r->limit is false while "reserved" is nonzero, then we
previously applied "reserved" in checking whether we had enough
bits, even though we don't apply it to actually limit how many we
take. The callers of account() never exercise either of these cases.

Before the previous commit, it was possible for "nbytes" to be less
than "min" if userspace chose a pathological configuration, but no
longer.
