Haswell-based Fujitsu laptops (Lifebook E734/E744/E754) have a touchpad
toggle hotkey (Fn+F4) which is handled transparently to the operating
system: while an ACPI notification is sent to FUJ02B1 when Fn+F4 is
pressed, touchpad state is properly toggled without any explicit support
for this operation in fujitsu-laptop.
Skylake-based models (Lifebook E736/E746/E756) also have that hotkey,
but the touchpad is not toggled transparently to the operating system.
When Fn+F4 is pressed, an ACPI notification is sent to FUJ02E3. A
subsequent call to S000 (FUNC_RFKILL) can be used to determine whether
the touchpad toggle hotkey was pressed so that an input event can be
sent to userspace.
Relevant ACPI code:
Method (_L21, 0, NotSerialized)
{
...
If (AHKF)
{
Notify (\_SB.FEXT, 0x80)
}
...
}
Method (S000, 3, Serialized)
{
Name (_T_0, Zero)
Local0 = Zero
While (One)
{
_T_0 = Arg0
If (_T_0 == Zero)
{
Local0 |= 0x04000000
Local0 |= 0x02000000
Local0 |= 0x00020000
Local0 |= 0x0200
Local0 |= 0x0100
Local0 |= 0x20
}
ElseIf (_T_0 == One)
{
...
If (AHKF & 0x08)
{
Local0 |= 0x04000000
AHKF ^= 0x08
}
...
} ...
Break
}
Return (Local0)
}
Pressing Fn+F4 raises GPE 0x21 and sets bit 3 in AHKF. This in turn
results in bit 26 being set in the value returned by FUNC_RFKILL called
with 1 as its first argument. On Skylake-based models, bit 26 is also
set in the value returned by FUNC_RFKILL called with 0 as its first
argument (this value is saved in fujitsu_hotkey->rfkill_supported upon
module initialization), which suggests that this bit is set on models
which do not handle touchpad toggling transparently to the operating
system.
Note that bit 3 is cleared in AHKF once FUNC_RFKILL is called with 1 as
its first argument, which requires fujitsu-laptop to handle this hotkey
in a different manner than the other, GIRB-based hotkeys: two input
events (press and release) are immediately sent once Fn+F4 is pressed.

This patch reworks code for generating sparse keymap and processing WMI
events. It unifies procedure for generating sparse keymap and also unifies
big switch code for processing WMI events of different types. After this
patch dell-wmi driver does not differ between "old" and "new" hotkey type.
It constructs sparse keymap table with all WMI codes. It is because on some
laptops (e.g. Dell Latitude E6440) ACPI/firmware send both event types (old
and new).
Each WMI code in sparse keymap table is prefixed by 16bit event type, so it
does not change functionality on laptops with "old" hotkey support (those
without scancodes in DMI).
This allow us to distinguish between same WMI codes with different types in
sparse keymap. Thanks to this WMI events of type 0x0011 were moved from big
switch into sparse keymap table too.
This patch also fixes possible bug in parsing WMI event buffer introduced
in commit 5ea2559726 ("dell-wmi: Add support for new Dell systems"). That
commit changed buffer type from int* to u16* without fixing code. More at:

This patch adds the Power Management Controller driver as a PCI driver
for Intel Core SoC architecture.
This driver can utilize debugging capabilities and supported features
as exposed by the Power Management Controller.
Please refer to the below specification for more details on PMC features.
http://www.intel.in/content/www/in/en/chipsets/100-series-chipset-datasheet-vol-2.html
The current version of this driver exposes SLP_S0_RESIDENCY counter.
This counter can be used for detecting fragile SLP_S0 signal related
failures and take corrective actions when PCH SLP_S0 signal is not
asserted after kernel freeze as part of suspend to idle flow
(echo freeze > /sys/power/state).
Intel Platform Controller Hub (PCH) asserts SLP_S0 signal when it
detects favorable conditions to enter its low power mode. As a
pre-requisite the SoC should be in deepest possible Package C-State
and devices should be in low power mode. For example, on Skylake SoC
the deepest Package C-State is Package C10 or PC10. Suspend to idle
flow generally leads to PC10 state but PC10 state may not be sufficient
for realizing the platform wide power potential which SLP_S0 signal
assertion can provide.
SLP_S0 signal is often connected to the Embedded Controller (EC) and the
Power Management IC (PMIC) for other platform power management related
optimizations.
In general, SLP_S0 assertion == PC10 + PCH low power mode + ModPhy Lanes
power gated + PLL Idle.
As part of this driver, a mechanism to read the SLP_S0_RESIDENCY is exposed
as an API and also debugfs features are added to indicate SLP_S0 signal
assertion residency in microseconds.
echo freeze > /sys/power/state
wake the system
cat /sys/kernel/debug/pmc_core/slp_s0_residency_usec

Core infrastructural changes:
- Support for natively single-ended GPIO driver stages. This
means that if the hardware has registers to configure open
drain or open source configuration, we use that rather than
(as we did before) try to emulate it by switching the line
to an input to get high impedance. This is also documented
throughly in Documentation/gpio/driver.txt for those of you
who did not understand one word of what I just wrote.
- Start to do away with the unnecessarily complex and
unitelligible ARCH_REQUIRE_GPIOLIB and
ARCH_WANT_OPTIONAL_GPIOLIB, another evolutional artifact from
the time when the GPIO subsystem was unmaintained. Archs can
now just select GPIOLIB and be done with it, cleanups to
arches will trickle in for the next kernel. Some minor archs
ACKed the changes immediately so these are included in this
pull request.
- Advancing the use of the data pointer inside the GPIO device
for storing driver data by switching the PowerPC, Super-H
Unicore and a few other subarches or subsystem drivers in
ALSA SoC, Input, serial, SSB, staging etc to use it.
- The initialization now reads the input/output state of the
GPIO lines, so that each GPIO descriptor knows - if this
callback is implemented - whether the line is input or
output. This also reflects nicely in userspace "lsgpio".
- It is now possible to name GPIO producer names, line names,
from the device tree. (Platform data has been supported for
a while.) I bet we will get a similar mechanism for ACPI
one of those days. This makes is possible to get sensible
producer names for e.g. GPIO rails in "lsgpio" in userspace.
New drivers:
- New driver for the Loongson1.
- The XLP driver now supports Broadcom Vulcan ARM64.
- The IT87 driver now supports IT8620 and IT8628.
- The PCA953X driver now supports Galileo Gen2.
Driver improvements:
- MCP23S08 was switched to use the gpiolib irqchip helpers and
now also suppors level-triggered interrupts.
- 74x164 and RCAR now supports the .set_multiple() callback
- AMDPT was converted to use generic GPIO.
- TC3589x, TPS65218, SX150X, F7188X, MENZ127, VX855, WM831X, WM8994
support the new single ended callback for open drain
and in some cases open source.
- Implement the .get_direction() callback for a few more drivers
like PL061, Xgene.
Cleanups:
- Paul Gortmaker combed through the drivers and de-modularized
those who are not really modules.
- Move the GPIO poweroff DT bindings to the power subdir where
they belong.
- Rename gpio-generic.c to gpio-mmio.c, which is much more to the
point. That's what it is handling, nothing more, nothing less.

Commit 52cbae0127 ("toshiba_acpi: Change default Hotkey enabling value")
changed the hotkeys enabling value, as it was the same value Windows uses,
however, it turns out that the value tells the EC that the driver will now
take care of the hardware events like the physical RFKill switch or the
pointing device toggle button.
This patch reverts such commit by changing the default hotkey enabling
value to 0x09, which enables hotkey events only, making the hardware
buttons working again.

Lifebook E734/E744/E754 has a LED which the manual calls "radio
components indicator". It should be lit when any radio transmitter is
enabled. Its state can be read and set using ACPI (FUNC interface,
RFKILL method).
Since the Lifebook E734/E744/E754 only has a button (as compared to a
slider) for enabling/disabling radio transmitters, I believe the LED in
question is meant to indicate whether all radio transmitters are
currently on or off. However, pressing the radio toggle button does not
automatically change the hardware state of the transmitters: it looks
like this machine relies on soft rfkill.
As for detecting whether the LED is present on a given machine, I had to
resort to educated guesswork. I assumed this LED is present on all
devices which have a radio toggle button instead of a slider. My
Lifebook E744 holds 0x01010001 in BTNI. By comparing the bits and
buttons with those of a Lifebook E8420 (BTNI=0x000F0101, has a slider),
I put my money on bit 24 as the indicator of the radio toggle button
being present. Furthermore, bit 24 is also clear on the S7020 which
does not have the toggle button or an RF LED.
Figuring out how the LED is controlled was more deterministic as all it
took was decompiling the DSDT and taking a look at method S000 (the
RFKILL method of the FUNC interface).
The LED control method implemented here is unsuitable for use with
"heavy" LED triggers, like phy0rx. Once blinking frequency achieves a
certain level, the system hangs.

GPS rfkill support via pre-2009 WMI interface uses hp_wmi_get_sw_state()
and hp_wmi_get_hw_state() to query its current hard and soft block state,
respectively.
In hp_wmi_get_sw_state() a mask is calculated which bit should be checked
in an int value returned by firmware to get current block state: 0x200 <<
(r * 8) which with r being 3 for GPS results in overflow and mask of zero.
The same goes for hp_wmi_get_hw_state().
This effectively means that GPS rfkill on this WMI interface is considered
always both hard and soft blocked.
Unfortunately, later when rfkill subsystem calls hp_wmi_set_block() to sync
this block to hardware firmware at least on my old nc6400 gets confused and
sets both hard and soft blocks on WiFi and BT.
This happens for example on hp-wmi module load.
Since due to overflow described above it is dubious that this ever worked
correctly and HP laptops with modems having GPS support seem to all have
been released well past year 2009 let's just remove GPS rfkill support via
pre-2009 WMI interface.

rfkill registration order in hp_wmi_rfkill_setup() is:
1) WiFi,
2) BT,
3) WWAN,
5) GPS.
Unregistration when cleaning up on error return should happen in reverse
order.
This means that: If BT rfkill fails to be allocated we possibly need to
first unregister WiFi rfkill before destroying it.
The same goes with (WWAN, BT) and (GPS, WWAN) pairs.
Also, if WWAN rfkill fails to register we need to (possibly) unregister BT
not the GPS one. And if GPS rfkill fails to register we need to unregister
WWAN not the BT one.
We never need to unregister GPS rfkill here since if GPS rfkill
registration succeeds this function returns without error so no cleanup is
necessary.

Similarly to Dell Vostro V131, Dell Inspiron M5110 also requires an
SMBIOS request to be issued in order for WMI events to be generated and
does not raise an i8042 interrupt when the Dell Instant Launch hotkey is
pressed. However, the event code for that hotkey on this machine is
0xe029, so add it to the legacy keymap.

On models on which an SMBIOS request needs to be issued in order for WMI
events to be generated, pressing the Dell Instant Launch hotkey does not
raise an i8042 interrupt - only a WMI event is generated (0xe025 on Dell
Vostro V131). As that WMI event is the only way the kernel will be
notified about pressing the Dell Instant Launch hotkey on such machines,
the relevant keymap entry has to be changed to a KE_KEY one. However,
the same WMI event should still be ignored on machines which do not
require an SMBIOS request for enabling WMI, so filter it conditionally
in dell_wmi_process_key().

On some laptop models (e.g. Dell Vostro V131), WMI events are not
generated until a specific SMBIOS request is issued to register an event
listener [1]. As there seems to be no ACPI method or SMBIOS request to
determine without possible side effects whether a given machine needs to
issue this SMBIOS request in order to receive WMI events, DMI matching
is used to whitelist the models which need it.

The Kconfig currently controlling compilation of this code is:
drivers/platform/x86/Kconfig:config INTEL_SCU_IPC
drivers/platform/x86/Kconfig: bool "Intel SCU IPC Support"
...meaning that it currently is not being built as a module by anyone.
Lets remove the modular code that is essentially orphaned, so that
when reading the driver there is no doubt it is builtin-only.
We explicitly disallow a driver unbind, since that doesn't have a
sensible use case anyway, and it allows us to drop the ".remove"
code for non-modular drivers.
Since module_pci_driver() uses the same init level priority as
builtin_pci_driver() the init ordering remains unchanged with
this commit.
Also note that MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE is a no-op for non-modular code.
We don't replace module.h with init.h since the file already has that.
We also delete the MODULE_LICENSE tag etc. since all that information
is already contained at the top of the file in the comments.

that worked before, these un-enumerated hotkeys won't be used if the
DMI table maps them to something else.
FWIW, it appears that the DMI table may be a legacy thing and we
might want to rethink how we handle events in general. As an
example, a whole lot of things map to KEY_PROG3 via the DMI table.
This doesn't send keypress events for any of the new events. They
appear to all be handled by other means (keyboard illumination is
handled automatically and rfkill is handled by intel-hid).

Checking the table for a minimum size of 7 bytes makes no sense: any valid
hotkey table has a size that's a multiple of 4.
Clean this up: replace the hardcoded header length with a sizeof and
change the check to ignore an empty hotkey table. The only behavior
change is that a 7-byte table (which is nonsensical) will now be
treated as absent instead of as valid but empty.

gmux has 3 switch registers:
* GMUX_PORT_SWITCH_DISPLAY switches the panel
* GMUX_PORT_SWITCH_DDC switches the panel's DDC lines
(only on pre-retinas; on retinas this is a no-op)
* GMUX_PORT_SWITCH_EXTERNAL switches the external DP port(s)
(only on models without Thunderbolt, i.e. introduced before 2011;
those with Thunderbolt switch only HPD/AUX, not the main link)
Currently we switch all 3 registers in unison.
gmux does not preserve the switch state during suspend, so we currently
read GMUX_PORT_SWITCH_DISPLAY before suspend and restore all 3 registers
to this value on resume.
With the upcoming ->switch_ddc callback, GMUX_PORT_SWITCH_DDC may
temporarily contain a different value than the other 2 registers.
If we happen to suspend at this moment, we'll write an incorrect
value to GMUX_PORT_SWITCH_DDC on resume.
Also, on models with Thunderbolt the integrated GPU is unable to drive
the external DP port(s), so we want to keep GMUX_PORT_SWITCH_EXTERNAL
permanently switched to the discrete GPU on those machines.
Consequently we can no longer assume that GMUX_PORT_SWITCH_DISPLAY
represents the correct value for all 3 registers on suspend.
Track the state of all 3 registers: Add gmux_read_switch_state() and
gmux_write_switch_state(). Instead of reading the switch state on
every suspend, read it once on driver initialization so that we know
the current switch state all the time. (This allows us to use some
optimizations and shortcuts, e.g. we can skip switching DDC if we
know that it's already switched to the requested GPU.) Change the
->switchto callback to use gmux_write_switch_state().

Allow handlers to declare their capabilities and allow clients to
obtain that information. So far we have these use cases:
* If the handler is able to switch DDC separately, clients need to
probe EDID with drm_get_edid_switcheroo(). We should allow them
to detect a capable handler to ensure this function only gets
called when needed.
* Likewise if the handler is unable to switch AUX separately, the active
client needs to communicate link training parameters to the inactive
client, which may then skip the AUX handshake and set up its output
with these pre-calibrated values (DisplayPort specification v1.1a,
section 2.5.3.3). Clients need a way to recognize such a situation.
The flags for the radeon_atpx_handler and amdgpu_atpx_handler are
initially set to 0, this can later on be amended with
handler_flags |= VGA_SWITCHEROO_CAN_SWITCH_DDC;
when a ->switch_ddc callback is added.

Intel PM Telemetry is a software mechanism via which various SoC
PM and performance related parameters like PM counters, firmware
trace verbosity, the status of different devices inside the SoC, etc.
can be monitored and analyzed. The different samples that may be
monitored can be configured at runtime via exported APIs.
This patch adds the telemetry core driver that implements basic
exported APIs.

BIOS/ACPI on devices with WMI interface version 0 does not clear buffer
before filling it. So next time when BIOS/ACPI send WMI event which is
smaller as previous then it contains garbage in buffer from previous event.
BIOS/ACPI on devices with WMI interface version 1 clears buffer and
sometimes send more events in buffer at one call.
Since commit 83fc44c32a ("dell-wmi: Update code for processing WMI
events") dell-wmi process all events in buffer (and not just first).
To prevent reading garbage from the buffer we process only the first
event on devices with WMI interface version 0.

separate ACPI device for notifications from the airplane mode hotkey.
This device is called "Wireless Radio Control" in Asus websites and ASHS
in the DSDT, and its ACPI _HID is ATK4002 in the two models mentioned
above.
For these models, when the airplane mode hotkey (Fn+F2) is pressed, a
query 0x0B is started in the Embedded Controller, and all this query does
is a notify ASHS with the value 0x88 (for acpi_osi >= "Windows 2012"):

If DMI lists a hotkey that we don't recognize, log and ignore it
instead of trying to map it to keycode 0. I haven't seen this happen,
but it will help maintain the key map in the future and it will help
avoid sending bogus events.
This also improves the message that we log when we get an unknown key

Certain Toshiba models with the second generation keyboard backlight
(type 2) do not generate the keyboard backlight changed event (0x92),
and thus, the sysfs entries are never being updated.
This patch adds a workquee and a global boolean variable to address
the issue.
For those models that do generate the event, the sysfs entries are
being updated via the *notify function and the boolean is set to
true to avoid a second call to update the entries.
For those models that do not generate the event, the workquee is
used to update the sysfs entries and also to emulate the event via
netlink, to make userspace aware of such change.

Infrastructural changes:
- In struct gpio_chip, rename the .dev node to .parent to better reflect
the fact that this is not the GPIO struct device abstraction. We will
add that soon so this would be totallt confusing.
- It was noted that the driver .get_value() callbacks was
sometimes reporting negative -ERR values to the gpiolib core, expecting
them to be propagated to consumer gpiod_get_value() and gpio_get_value()
calls. This was not happening, so as there was a mess of drivers
returning negative errors and some returning "anything else than zero"
to indicate that a line was active. As some would have bit 31 set to
indicate "line active" it clashed with negative error codes. This is
fixed by the largeish series clamping values in all drivers with
!!value to [0,1] and then augmenting the code to propagate error codes
to consumers. (Includes some ACKed patches in other subsystems.)
- Add a void *data pointer to struct gpio_chip. The container_of() design
pattern is indeed very nice, but we want to reform the struct gpio_chip
to be a non-volative, stateless business, and keep states internal to
the gpiolib to be able to hold on to the state when adding a proper
userspace ABI (character device) further down the road. To achieve this,
drivers need a handle at the internal state that is not dependent on
their struct gpio_chip() so we add gpiochip_add_data() and
gpiochip_get_data() following the pattern of many other subsystems.
All the "use gpiochip data pointer" patches transforms drivers to this
scheme.
- The Generic GPIO chip header has been merged into the general
<linux/gpio/driver.h> header, and the custom header for that removed.
Instead of having a separate mm_gpio_chip struct for these generic
drivers, merge that into struct gpio_chip, simplifying the code and
removing the need for separate and confusing includes.
Misc improvements:
- Stabilize the way GPIOs are looked up from the ACPI legacy
specification.
- Incremental driver features for PXA, PCA953X, Lantiq (patches from the
OpenWRT community), RCAR, Zynq, PL061, 104-idi-48
New drivers:
- Add a GPIO chip to the ALSA SoC AC97 driver.
- Add a new Broadcom NSP SoC driver (this lands in the pinctrl dir, but
the branch is merged here too to account for infrastructural changes).
- The sx150x driver now supports the sx1502.

Pull GPIO updates from Linus Walleij:
"Here is the bulk of GPIO changes for v4.5.
Notably there are big refactorings mostly by myself, aimed at getting
the gpio_chip into a shape that makes me believe I can proceed to
preserve state for a proper userspace ABI (character device) that has
already been proposed once, but resulted in the feedback that I need
to go back and restructure stuff. So I've been restructuring stuff.
On the way I ran into brokenness (return code from the get_value()
callback) and had to fix it. Also, refactored generic GPIO to be
simpler.
Some of that is still waiting to trickle down from the subsystems all
over the kernel that provide random gpio_chips, I've touched every
single GPIO driver in the kernel now, oh man I didn't know I was
responsible for so much...
Apart from that we're churning along as usual.
I took some effort to test and retest so it should merge nicely and we
shook out a couple of bugs in -next.

collaboratively reverse-engineer its remaining unknown bits

The DOC sections are bound together in the gpu.tmpl DocBook

this should be amended with documentation about the four other

Some of the remaining open questions:
* How are vblank intervals synchronized on retinas to achieve seamless
switching? Is the DP mux capable of this? It's not mentioned in the
data sheets. Or is it done at the OS level, i.e. do we have to
synchronize vblank intervals between DRM drivers? There's a signal
coming from the panel connector and going into gmux, could this be
the vblank signal as received by the panel to properly time the
switch?
* On retinas there's an I2C bus between gmux and the connector of the
right I/O board, apparently leading to the Parade PS8401A HDMI
repeater. What is this for, is it controlled via gmux registers?
Data sheet:
http://www.paradetech.com/products/jitter-cleaning-repeaters/ps8401/
* On retinas there's an I2C bus between gmux and the LED driver.
Pre-retinas connected the LED driver to SMBUS. Are there additional
gmux registers on retinas to control it?
* The MacPro6,1 2013 also has a gmux, the same Renesas R4F2113 as the
retina MacBook Pro. The Mac Pro doesn't have a built-in display,
so what is its purpose? Power control of the dual FirePro GPUs?
Switching of the external DP/Thunderbolt ports? The iFixit teardown
clearly shows one TI HD3SS212 DisplayPort mux on the logic board next
to one of the three Thunderbolt controllers. However six muxes would
be necessary to switch all six ports between GPUs. The mux is probably
necessary for one of the display configurations allowed by Apple,
but which one?

* Registers we haven't decoded yet:
0x700 32 Bit configmap?
0x708 32 Bit power sequence?
0x712 8 Bit status of clock from panel on retinas?
0x713 8 Bit dito?
0x724 16 Bit backlight, raw value?
0x760 32 Bit backlight
0x764 32 Bit backlight
0x768 8 Bit backlight
0x76a 16 Bit backlight
0x76c 16 Bit backlight
0x76e 16 Bit backlight
0x77f edp/dp/hdmi probe? retina only.
* Addition by Bruno Prémont <bonbons@linux-vserver.org>:
"Missing is also precise knowledge as to what the gmux depends on.
From behavioral reports, it is somehow sensitive to VGA IO/MEM
routing (it apparently needs the routing to go to integrated GPU,
not discrete GPU).
When the routing is inappropriate backlight control IO just reads back
as 0xFF (and eventually gmux IO in general does so)."

If transflective backlight is supported and the brightness is zero
(lowest brightness level), the set_lcd_brightness function will activate
the transflective backlight, making the LCD appear to be turned off.
This patch fixes the issue by incrementing the brightness level, and
by doing so, avoiding the activation of the tranflective backlight.

The name .dev in a struct is normally reserved for a struct device
that is let us say a superclass to the thing described by the struct.
struct gpio_chip stands out by confusingly using a struct device *dev
to point to the parent device (such as a platform_device) that
represents the hardware. As we want to give gpio_chip:s real devices,
this is not working. We need to rename this member to parent.
This was done by two coccinelle scripts, I guess it is possible to
combine them into one, but I don't know such stuff. They look like
this:
@@
struct gpio_chip *var;
@@
-var->dev
+var->parent
and:
@@
struct gpio_chip var;
@@
-var.dev
+var.parent
and:
@@
struct bgpio_chip *var;
@@
-var->gc.dev
+var->gc.parent
Plus a few instances of bgpio that I couldn't figure out how
to teach Coccinelle to rewrite.
This patch hits all over the place, but I *strongly* prefer this
solution to any piecemal approaches that just exercise patch
mechanics all over the place. It mainly hits drivers/gpio and
drivers/pinctrl which is my own backyard anyway.

The asus_wmi_get_devstate_simple() returns 0-1 on success. In theory
according to static checkers, it can return either -EIO or -ENODEV on
failure. Currently the error handling code only handles -ENODEV and
-EIO is treated as success. Let's make it handle the -EIO error as
well.
It's possible that it can't actually return -EIO and this patch is not
needed but in that case this patch is harmless and silences a static
checker warning so it's still worth it.

This changes the entry to the whitelist of machines that do not have
a physical rfkill switch. Unfortunately, the Yoga 3 generation seems
to use upper-case letters for the YOGA 3 Pro-1370, while it uses normal
capitalization for its Yoga 3 1170 and 1470 siblings.
In order to catch all variants of the Yoga 3, I'm changing both
the entry for the 1470 (using "Yoga" as the name) and the entry for
the Pro 1370 (using all-caps "YOGA") to not match the exact model number
but only the generation. This way, the 1170 and 1470 models share one
entry, but if the firmware changes from one format to the other, it will
still work.
The second entry for Yoga 2 Pro that was recently added for some
reason ended up not being added in alphanumeric order, and I'm
moving the Yoga 3 1470 entry down while making the change, so they
are sorted more logically.

The ideapad-laptop handles most special keys on various Lenovo Laptops
including the Yoga line. Unfortunately, the Yoga 3 11/13/14 models have
one important exception, which is the Fn-ESC combination.
On other Lenovo Laptops, this is FnLock, which switches the function keys
between the primary (Mute, Vol down, Vol up, ...) and the secondary (F1,
F2, F3, ...) behavior. On the new machines, FnLock is only available
through BIOS setup (possibly through a yet-to-be-implemented feature
in this driver) but not through Fn-ESC, but instead the ESC key itself
switched between ESC and a "Paper Display" app for Windows.
Unfortunately, that means that you can never have both ESC *and* the
function keys working at the same time without needing to press Fn on
one of them.
As pointed out in the official Lenovo Forum by dozens of users, this
makes the machine rather useless for any serious work [1].
I have now studied the ACPI DSDT one more time and found the event
that is generated for the ESC key. Unlike all other key events on this
machine, it is actually a WMI, while the other ones are read from the
embedded controller.
I am now installing a WMI notifier that uses the event number from the
WMI subsystem as the scancode. The only event number generated here is
'128', and that fits in nicely with the two existing ranges of scancodes
used by the EC: 0-15 for the 16-bit VPCCMD_R_VPC register, 16-17 for
the VPCCMD_R_NOVO register and 64-67 for VPCCMD_R_SPECIAL_BUTTONS.
The only sane way to handle this button (in absence of the Windows Paper
Display driver) seems to be to have it emit KEY_ESC, so that is what
I use as the default. Should any user ever want to overwrite the default,
they can install their own keymap.
To ensure that we can still build the driver without adding a CONFIG_WMI
dependency, all new code is enclosed in #ifdef.

no longer necessary now.
The 7b8aca65 patch added kernel information log to remind to user space
for the threeg sysfs interface will be removed in 2012, then b58b9ffc patch
updated the interface removing time to 2014.
I think the 3 years lead time is enough for user space application to use
rfkill instead of sysfs interface to control 3G device.
This patch removes code about threeg sysfs interface. And it also removes the
unused interface sysfs that exposes which ACPI-WMI method used by acer-wmi
driver on the machine. The information is already exposed by the acer-wmi
initial log.

Toshiba laptops that feature WMI events for hotkeys were left unsupported
by the toshiba_acpi driver, however, commit a88bc06e5a ("toshiba_acpi:
Avoid registering input device on WMI event laptops") added hardware
support for such laptops, but the hotkeys are not handled there.
This driver adds support for hotkey monitoring on certain Toshiba laptops
that manage the hotkeys via WMI events instead of the Toshiba
Configuration Interface (TCI).
The toshiba_acpi driver and this one can co-exist, as this only takes
care of hotkeys, while the proper takes care of hardware related stuff.
Currently the driver is under the EXPERIMENTAL flag, as the keymap
and the notify function are incomplete (due to lack of hardware to test).

sony_nv_hotkeys_decode can return a negative value. real_ev is a u32 variable.

The IRQF_NO_SUSPEND flag is used to identify the interrupts that should
be left enabled so as to allow them to work as expected during the
suspend-resume cycle, but doesn't guarantee that it will wake the system
from a suspended state, enable_irq_wake is recommended to be used for
the wakeup.
This patch removes the use of IRQF_NO_SUSPEND flags and uses newly
introduce PM wakeup APIs dev_pm_{set,clear}_wake_irq.

This apparently was present in the original driver by Cezary Jackiewicz

The function toshiba_acpi_setup_keyboard currently has two u32 variables
used to store the Hotkey Event Type and the result of the HCI_SYSTEM_EVENT

This patch removes those two variables, as we already have a global

The driver currently uses the hotkey enabling value of 0x09 to enable
hotkey events, but windows uses a different value (0x01).
All Toshiba laptops accept the following "hotkey" parameters:
0x01 - Enable hotkey and system events.
0x03 - Enable system events only.
0x09 - Enable hotkey events only.
0x0b - Disable (hotkey and system) events.
This patch changes the default hotkey enabling value from 0x09 to 0x01,

Commit a2b3471b5b ("toshiba_acpi: Use the Hotkey Event Type function
for keymap choosing") changed the *setup_keyboard function to query for
the Hotkey Event Type to help choose the correct keymap, but turns out
that here are certain Toshiba models out there not implementing this
feature, and thus, failing to continue the input device registration and
leaving such laptops without hotkey support.
This patch changes such check, and instead of returning an error if
the Hotkey Event Type is not present, we simply inform userspace about it,
changing the message printed from err to notice, making the function
responsible for registering the input device to continue.
This issue was found on a Toshiba Portege Z30-B, but there might be
some other models out there affected by this regression as well.

The work performed by wmi_gtoa is equivalent to simply sprintf(out,
"%pUL", in), so one could replace its body by this. However, most
users feed the result directly as a %s argument to some other function
which also understands the %p extensions (they all ultimately use
vsnprintf), so we can eliminate some stack buffers and quite a bit of
code by just using %pUL directly.
In wmi_dev_uevent I'm not sure whether there's room for a
nul-terminator in env->buf, so I've just replaced wmi_gtoa with the
equivalent sprintf call.

Since Surface Pro 3 does not follow the specs of "Windows ACPI Design
Guide for SoC Platform", code in drivers/input/misc/soc_array.c can
not detect these buttons on it. According to bios implementation,
Surface Pro 3 encapsulates these buttons in a device named "VGBI",
with _HID "MSHW0028". When any of the buttons is pressed, a specify
ACPI notification code for this button will be delivered to "VGBI". For
example, if power button is pressed down, ACPI notification code of 0xc6
will be sent by Notify(VGBI, 0xc6).
This patch leverages "VGBI" to distinguish different ACPI notification
code from Power button, Home button, Volume button, then dispatches these
code to input layer. Lid is already covered by acpi button driver, so
there's no need to rewrite.

Intel Sunrisepoint (Skylake PCH) has the iTCO watchdog accessible across
the SMBus, unlike previous generations of PCH/ICH where it was on the
LPC bus. Because it's on the SMBus, it doesn't make sense to pass around
a 'struct lpc_ich_info', and leaking the type of bus into the iTCO
watchdog driver is kind of backwards anyway.
This change introduces a new 'struct itco_wdt_platform_data' for use
inside the iTCO watchdog driver and by the upcoming Intel Sunrisepoint
code, which neatly avoids having to include lpc_ich headers in the i801
i2c driver.
This change is overdue because lpc_ich_info has already found its way
into other TCO watchdog users, notably the intel_pmc_ipc driver where
the watchdog actually isn't on the LPC bus as far as I can see.
A simple translation layer is provided for converting from the existing
'struct lpc_ich_info' inside the lpc_ich mfd driver.

Like some of the other Yoga models the Lenovo Yoga 3 14 does not have a
hw rfkill switch, and trying to read the hw rfkill switch through the
ideapad module causes it to always reported blocking breaking wifi.
This commit adds the Lenovo Yoga 3 14 to the no_hw_rfkill dmi list, fixing
the wifi breakage.

Given that some features were added (/dev/toshiba_acpi device), some
clean-ups and minor (cosmetic) changes all over the driver code, bump
the driver version to 0.23 to reflect these overall changes.

A previous patch added explicit feature checks for support, *SUCCESS*
and *FAILURE to the HCI/SCI *{get, set} functions.
This patch removes some unnedded checks to the driver HCI/SCI
functions given that the default error return value is now set to
-EIO, there is no need to check for other error values other than
the ones currently checking for.

This patch refactors the return value of the driver *{get, set}
functions, since the driver default error value is -EIO.
All the functions now check for TOS_FAILURE, TOS_NOT_SUPPORTED and
TOS_SUCCESS.
On TOS_FAILURE a pr_err message is printed informing the user of the
error (no change was made to this, except the check was added to the
functions not checking for this).
On TOS_NOT_SUPPORTED we now return -ENODEV immediately (some
functions were returning -EIO and some other were not checking)
On TOS_SUCCESS* we now return 0 (as a side effect, a new success value
was added, since some functions return one instead of zero to
indicate success).
As a special case, the LED functions now check for *FAILURE on
*set, and check for TOS_FAILURE and TOS_SUCCESS on *get with their
"default" return value set to LED_OFF.
Also the {lcd, video}_proc* functions were adapted to reflect these
changes to their parent HCI functions.

Currently the driver prints "*not supported" if any of the features
queried are in fact not supported, let us print the available
features instead.
This patch removes all instances pr_info printing "*not supported",
and add a new function called "print_supported_features", which will
print the available laptop features.

This patch changes the *available functions return type from int to
void.
The checks for support of their respective features are done inside
such functions and there was no need to return anything as we can
flag the queried feature as supported inside these functions.
The code was adapted accordingly to these changes and two new
variables were created and another was changed from uint to bool.
Also, the function toshiba_acceleremoter_supported was renamed to
toshiba_accelerometer_available to maintain the naming consistency on
the driver.

The thermal code uses int, long and unsigned long for temperatures
in different places.
Using an unsigned type limits the thermal framework to positive
temperatures without need. Also several drivers currently will report
temperatures near UINT_MAX for temperatures below 0°C. This will probably
immediately shut the machine down due to overtemperature if started below
0°C.
'long' is 64bit on several architectures. This is not needed since INT_MAX °mC
is above the melting point of all known materials.
Consistently use a plain 'int' for temperatures throughout the thermal code and
the drivers. This only changes the places in the drivers where the temperature
is passed around as pointer, when drivers internally use another type this is
not changed.

This patch adds a new function named "set_fan_status" to complement
its get* counterpart, as well as to avoid code duplication between
"fan_proc_write" and "fan_store".
Also, both functions (get*, set*) are now checking for TOS_FAILURE,
TOS_NOT_SUPPORTED and TOS_SUCCESS (to be on par with the rest of the
HCI/SCI functions), printing an error message, returning -ENODEV and
zero respectively.
The proc and sysfs functions were updated to reflect these changes as
well, returning -EIO for proc, and propagating the error value on the
sysfs functions.

Commit f11f999e98 ("toshiba_acpi: Refuse to load on machines with

GUID given that such laptops manage the hotkeys via that interface,
however, such laptops have a working Toshiba Configuration Interface
(TCI), and thus, such commit denied several supported features.
This patch avoids registering the input device and ignores all hotkey
events on laptops with such WMI Event GUID, making the supported

There were previous attempts to "merge" the toshiba SMM module to the
toshiba_acpi one, they were trying to imitate what the old toshiba
module does, however, some models (TOS1900 devices) come with a
"crippled" implementation and do not provide all the "features" a
"genuine" Toshiba BIOS does.
This patch adds a new device called toshiba_acpi, which aim is to
enable userspace to access the SMM on Toshiba laptops via ACPI calls.
Creating a new convenience _IOWR command to access the SCI functions
by opening/closing the SCI internally to avoid buggy BIOS, while at
the same time providing backwards compatibility.
Older programs (and new) who wish to access the SMM on newer models
can do it by pointing their path to /dev/toshiba_acpi (instead of
/dev/toshiba) as the toshiba.h header was modified to reflect these
changes as well as adds all the toshiba_acpi paths and command,
however, it is strongly recommended to use the new IOCTL for any
SCI command to avoid any buggy BIOS.

Since the introduction of TOS1900 devices support to the driver, the
"keys" entry under the proc directory was broken, given that it only
handled TOS620X devices accordingly.
This patch adapts the code to show the hotkey values of TOS1900
devices too, and in case some programs are still using that interface,
hotkeys reporting should now work on these devices.

"The rework of backlight interface selection API from Hans de Goede
stands out from the number of commits and the number of affected

quite significant too as far as the number of commits goes and because
they should reduce CPU online/offline overhead quite a bit in the
majority of cases.
From the new featues point of view, the ACPICA update (to upstream
revision 20150515) adding support for new ACPI 6 material to ACPICA is
the one that matters the most as some new significant features will be
based on it going forward. Also included is an update of the ACPI
device power management core to follow ACPI 6 (which in turn reflects
the Windows' device PM implementation), a PM core extension to support
wakeup interrupts in a more generic way and support for the ACPI _CCA

This is a preparation patch for the backlight interface selection logic
cleanup, there are 2 reasons to not always build the video_detect code
into the kernel:
1) In order for the video_detect.c to also deal with / select native
backlight interfaces on win8 systems, instead of doing this in video.c
where it does not belong, video_detect.c needs to call into the backlight
class code. Which cannot be done if it is builtin and the blacklight class
is not.
2) Currently all the platform/x86 drivers which have quirks to prefer
the vendor driver over acpi-video call acpi_video_unregister_backlight()
to remove the acpi-video backlight interface, this logic really belongs
in video_detect.c, which will cause video_detect.c to depend on symbols of
video.c and video.c already depends on video_detect.c symbols, so they
really need to be a single module.
Note that this commits make 2 changes so as to maintain 100% kernel
commandline compatibility:
1) The __setup call for the acpi_backlight= handling is moved to
acpi/util.c as __setup may only be used by code which is alwasy builtin
2) video.c is renamed to acpi_video.c so that it can be combined with
video_detect.c into video.ko
This commit also makes changes to drivers/platform/x86/Kconfig to ensure
that drivers which use acpi_video_backlight_support() from video_detect.c,
will not be built-in when acpi_video is not built in. This also changes
some "select" uses to "depends on" to avoid dependency loops.

acpi_video_dmi_demote_vendor() is going away as part of the cleanup of
the code for determinging which backlight class driver(s) to register.
The call to acpi_video_dmi_demote_vendor() was meant to undo the call to
acpi_video_dmi_promote_vendor() when the gmux device is removed, this is
questionable though since the promote call sets a flag, not a counter, so
the demote call may undo a promoto done elsewhere. Moreover in practice
this is a nop since the gmux device is never removed, and the flag is only
checked when acpi/video.ko gets loaded, so even if the user manually
removes apple-gmux the demote call is still a nop as video.ko will already
have loaded by this time.
Also note that none of the other users of acpi_video_dmi_promote_vendor()
use acpi_video_dmi_demote_vendor().
If we ever encounter a system with a gmux where the acpi-video interface
should be used, then the proper fix would be to dmi-blacklist the gmux
driver on that system.

acpi_video_unregister() not only unregisters the acpi-video backlight
interface but also unregisters the acpi video bus event listener, causing
e.g. brightness hotkey presses to no longer generate keypress events.
The unregistering of the acpi video bus event listener usually is
undesirable, which by itself is a good reason to switch to
acpi_video_unregister_backlight().
Another problem with using acpi_video_unregister() rather then using
acpi_video_unregister_backlight() is that on systems with an intel video
opregion (most systems) and a broken_acpi_video quirk, whether or not
the acpi video bus event listener actually gets unregistered depends on
module load ordering:
Scenario a:
1) acpi/video.ko gets loaded (*), does not do acpi_video_register as there
is an intel opregion.
2) intel.ko gets loaded, calls acpi_video_register() which registers both
the listener and the acpi backlight interface
3) samsung-laptop.ko gets loaded, calls acpi_video_unregister() causing
both the listener and the acpi backlight interface to unregister
Scenario b:
1) acpi/video.ko gets loaded (*), does not do acpi_video_register as there
is an intel opregion.
2) samsung-laptop.ko gets loaded, calls acpi_video_dmi_promote_vendor(),
calls acpi_video_unregister(), which is a nop since acpi_video_register
has not yet been called
2) intel.ko gets loaded, calls acpi_video_register() which registers
the listener, but does not register the acpi backlight interface due to
the call to the preciding call to acpi_video_dmi_promote_vendor()
*) acpi/video.ko always loads first as both other modules depend on it.
So we end up with or without an acpi video bus event listener depending
on module load ordering, not good.
Switching to using acpi_video_unregister_backlight() means that independ
of ordering we will always have an acpi video bus event listener fixing
this.
Note that this commit means that systems without an intel video opregion,
and systems which were hitting scenario a wrt module load ordering, are
now getting an acpi video bus event listener while before they were not!
On some systems this may cause the brightness hotkeys to start generating
keypresses while before they were not (good), while on other systems this
may cause the brightness hotkeys to generate multiple keypress events for
a single press (not so good). Since on most systems the acpi video bus is
the canonical source for brightness events I believe that the latter case
will needs to be handled on a case by case basis by filtering out the
duplicate keypresses at the other source for them.

This fixes a several year old regression that I found while trying
to get the Yoga 3 11 to work. The ideapad_rfk_set function is meant
to send a command to the embedded controller through ACPI, but
as of c1f73658ed, it sends the index of the rfkill device instead
of the command, and ignores the opcode field.
This changes it back to the original behavior, which indeed
flips the rfkill state as seen in the debugfs interface.

Until now module dell-laptop registered rfkill device which used i8042
filter function for receiving HW switch rfkill events (handling special
keycode).
But for some dell laptops there is native ACPI driver dell-rbtn which can
receive rfkill events (without i8042 hooks).
So this patch will combine best from both sides. It will use native ACPI
driver dell-rbtn for receiving events and dell-laptop SMBIOS interface for
enabling or disabling radio devices. If ACPI driver or device will not be
available fallback to i8042 filter function will be used.
Patch also changes module_init() to late_initcall() to ensure that init
function will be called after initializing dell-rbtn.c driver.

This patch exports notifier functions so other modules can receive HW

that other module will use events for other rfkill interface). This
behaviour can be changed with new module parameter "auto_remove_rfkill".
This patch is designed for dell-laptop module for receiving those events.

the call to the preciding call to acpi_video_dmi_promote_vendor()
Since on most systems the acpi video bus is
the canonical source for brightness events I believe that the latter case
will needs to be handled on a case by case basis by filtering out the
duplicate keypresses at the other source for them.

acpi_video_unregister() not only unregisters the acpi-video backlight
interface but also unregisters the acpi video bus event listener, causing
e.g. brightness hotkey presses to no longer generate keypress events.
The unregistering of the acpi video bus event listener usually is
undesirable, which by itself is a good reason to switch to
acpi_video_unregister_backlight().
Another problem with using acpi_video_unregister() rather then using
acpi_video_unregister_backlight() is that on systems with an intel video
opregion (most systems) and a wmi_backlight_power quirk, whether or not
the acpi video bus event listener actually gets unregistered depends on
module load ordering:
Scenario a:
1) acpi/video.ko gets loaded (*), does not do acpi_video_register as there
is an intel opregion.
2) intel.ko gets loaded, calls acpi_video_register() which registers both
the listener and the acpi backlight interface
3) asus-wmi.ko gets loaded, calls acpi_video_unregister() causing both
the listener and the acpi backlight interface to unregister
Scenario b:
1) acpi/video.ko gets loaded (*), does not do acpi_video_register as there
is an intel opregion.
2) asus-wmi.ko gets loaded, calls acpi_video_dmi_promote_vendor(),
calls acpi_video_unregister(), which is a nop since acpi_video_register
has not yet been called
2) intel.ko gets loaded, calls acpi_video_register() which registers
the listener, but does not register the acpi backlight interface due to

pvpanic was not properly detected when _STA was missing.
ACPI 6.0 April 2015, 6.3.7 _STA (Status)
If a device object (including the processor object) does not have an
_STA object, then OSPM assumes that all of the above bits are set
(i.e., the device is present, enabled, shown in the UI, and
functioning).
Not adhering to the specification made pvpanic dormant under QEMU 2.3.
The original patch used acpi_bus_get_status_handle, which was not
being exported, so module build blew up; switch to acpi_bus_get_status
and use the status it populates.
Populated status is a bitfield so we can make the code self-documenting.
We do not check 'present' because 'enabled' has to be false in that case
by specification. Older QEMUs set 0xff to status and newer ones do 0xb.
