Jeff Layton 89482a56a0 cifs: add a third receive phase to cifs_demultiplex_thread
Have the demultiplex thread receive just enough to get to the MID, and
then find it before receiving the rest. Later, we'll use this to swap
in a preallocated receive buffer for some calls.

Jeff Layton 42c4dfc213 cifs: turn read_from_socket into a wrapper around a vectorized version
Eventually we'll want to allow cifsd to read data directly into the
pagecache. In order to do that we'll need a routine that can take a
kvec array and pass that directly to kernel_recvmsg.

Unfortunately though, the kernel's recvmsg routines modify the kvec
array that gets passed in, so we need to use a copy of the kvec array
and refresh that copy on each pass through the loop.

Jeff Layton fe11e4ccb8 cifs: clean up check_rfc1002_header
Rename it for better clarity as to what it does and have the caller pass
in just the single type byte. Turn the if statement into a switch and
optimize it by placing the most common message type at the top. Move the
header length check back into cifs_demultiplex_thread in preparation
for adding a new receive phase and normalize the cFYI messages.

Jeff Layton a52c1eb7ae cifs: simplify read_from_socket
Move the iovec handling entirely into read_from_socket. That simplifies
the code and gets rid of the special handling for header reads. With
this we can also get rid of the "goto incomplete_rcv" label in the main
demultiplex thread function since we can now treat header and non-header
receives the same way.

Also, make it return an int (since we'll never receive enough to worry
about the sign bit anyway), and simply make it return the amount of bytes
read or a negative error code.

Shirish Pargaonkar 3d3ea8e64e cifs: Add mount options for backup intent (try #6)
Add mount options backupuid and backugid.

It allows an authenticated user to access files with the intent to back them
up including their ACLs, who may not have access permission but has
"Backup files and directories user right" on them (by virtue of being part
of the built-in group Backup Operators.

When mount options backupuid is specified, cifs client restricts the
use of backup intents to the user whose effective user id is specified
along with the mount option.

When mount options backupgid is specified, cifs client restricts the
use of backup intents to the users whose effective user id belongs to the
group id specified along with the mount option.

If an authenticated user is not part of the built-in group Backup Operators

Jeff Layton c974befa40 cifs: untangle server->maxBuf and CIFSMaxBufSize
server->maxBuf is the maximum SMB size (including header) that the
server can handle. CIFSMaxBufSize is the maximum amount of data (sans
header) that the client can handle. Currently maxBuf is being capped at
CIFSMaxBufSize + the max headers size, and the two values are used
somewhat interchangeably in the code.

This makes little sense as these two values are not related at all.
Separate them and make sure the code uses the right values in the right
places.

Jesper Juhl 95c7545453 CIFS: Don't free volume_info->UNC until we are entirely done with it.
In cleanup_volume_info_contents() we kfree(volume_info->UNC); and then
proceed to use that variable on the very next line.
This causes (at least) Coverity Prevent to complain about use-after-free
of that variable (and I guess other checkers may do that as well).
There's not any /real/ problem here since we are just using the value of
the pointer, not actually dereferencing it, but it's still trivial to
silence the tool, so why not?
To me at least it also just seems nicer to defer freeing the variable
until we are entirely done with it in all respects.

We do attempt to perform a try_to_freeze in cifs_reconnect, but the
connection attempt itself seems to be taking longer than 20s to time

before attempting the connect instead of after.

Jeff Layton 1190f6a067 cifs: fix wsize negotiation to respect max buffer size and active signing (try #4)
Hopefully last version. Base signing check on CAP_UNIX instead of
tcon->unix_ext, also clean up the comments a bit more.

According to Hongwei Sun's blog posting here:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/openspecification/archive/2009/04/10/smb-maximum-transmit-buffer-size-and-performance-tuning.aspx

CAP_LARGE_WRITEX is ignored when signing is active. Also, the maximum
size for a write without CAP_LARGE_WRITEX should be the maxBuf that
the server sent in the NEGOTIATE request.

Fix the wsize negotiation to take this into account. While we're at it,
alter the other wsize definitions to use sizeof(WRITE_REQ) to allow for
slightly larger amounts of data to potentially be written per request.

Jeff Layton 8d1bca328b cifs: correctly handle NULL tcon pointer in CIFSTCon
Long ago (in commit 00e485b0), I added some code to handle share-level
passwords in CIFSTCon. That code ignored the fact that it's legit to
pass in a NULL tcon pointer when connecting to the IPC$ share on the
server.

This wasn't really a problem until recently as we only called CIFSTCon
this way when the server returned -EREMOTE. With the introduction of
commit c1508ca2 however, it gets called this way on every mount, causing
an oops when share-level security is in effect.

Fix this by simply treating a NULL tcon pointer as if user-level
security were in effect. I'm not aware of any servers that protect the
IPC$ share with a specific password anyway. Also, add a comment to the
top of CIFSTCon to ensure that we don't make the same mistake again.

cifs_reconnect again. Eventually the GlobalMid_Lock is dropped and the
reply from the earlier NEGOTIATE completes and the tcpStatus is set to
CifsGood. cifs_reconnect then goes through and closes the socket and sets the
pointer to zero, but because the status is now CifsGood, the new socket
is not created and cifs_reconnect exits with the socket pointer set to
NULL.

Fix this by only setting the tcpStatus to CifsGood if the tcpStatus is
CifsNeedNegotiate, and by making sure that generic_ip_connect is always
called at least once in cifs_reconnect.

Note that this is not a perfect fix for this issue. It's still possible
that the NEGOTIATE reply is handled after the socket has been closed and
reconnected. In that case, the socket state will look correct but it no
NEGOTIATE was performed on it be for the wrong socket. In that situation
though the server should just shut down the socket on the next attempted
send, rather than causing the oops that occurs today.

Jeff Layton f7910cbd9f cifs: clean up wsize negotiation and allow for larger wsize
Now that we can handle larger wsizes in writepages, fix up the
negotiation of the wsize to allow for that. find_get_pages only seems to
give out a max of 256 pages at a time, so that gives us a reasonable
default of 1M for the wsize.

If the server however does not support large writes via POSIX
extensions, then we cap the wsize to (128k - PAGE_CACHE_SIZE). That
gives us a size that goes up to the max frame size specified in RFC1001.

Finally, if CAP_LARGE_WRITE_AND_X isn't set, then further cap it to the

Jeff Layton 3c1105df69 cifs: don't call mid_q_entry->callback under the Global_MidLock (try #5)
Minor revision to the last version of this patch -- the only difference
is the fix to the cFYI statement in cifs_reconnect.

Holding the spinlock while we call this function means that it can't
sleep, which really limits what it can do. Taking it out from under
the spinlock also means less contention for this global lock.

Change the semantics such that the Global_MidLock is not held when
the callback is called. To do this requires that we take extra care
not to have sync_mid_result remove the mid from the list when the
mid is in a state where that has already happened. This prevents
list corruption when the mid is sitting on a private list for
reconnect or when cifsd is coming down.

Jeff Layton 820a803ffa cifs: keep BCC in little-endian format
This is the same patch as originally posted, just with some merge
conflicts fixed up...

Currently, the ByteCount is usually converted to host-endian on receive.
This is confusing however, as we need to keep two sets of routines for
accessing it, and keep track of when to use each routine. Munging
received packets like this also limits when the signature can be
calulated.

Simplify the code by keeping the received ByteCount in little-endian
format. This allows us to eliminate a set of routines for accessing it
and we can now drop the *_le suffixes from the accessor functions since
that's now implied.

While we're at it, switch all of the places that read the ByteCount
directly to use the get_bcc inline which should also clean up some
unaligned accesses.

Steve French be8e3b0044 consistently use smb_buf_length as be32 for cifs (try 3)
There is one big endian field in the cifs protocol, the RFC1001
length, which cifs code (unlike in the smb2 code) had been handling as
u32 until the last possible moment, when it was converted to be32 (its
native form) before sending on the wire. To remove the last sparse
endian warning, and to make this consistent with the smb2
implementation (which always treats the fields in their
native size and endianness), convert all uses of smb_buf_length to
       be32.

This version incorporates Christoph's comment about

is for the future. At that time we could also implement a

but that would be premature until smb2 is stable.

Intially the smb2 Kconfig option will depend on "BROKEN"

When it is no longer experimental we can consider changing

Steve French fd88ce9313 [CIFS] cifs: clarify the meaning of tcpStatus == CifsGood
When the TCP_Server_Info is first allocated and connected, tcpStatus ==
CifsGood means that the NEGOTIATE_PROTOCOL request has completed and the
socket is ready for other calls. cifs_reconnect however sets tcpStatus
to CifsGood as soon as the socket is reconnected and the optional
RFC1001 session setup is done. We have no clear way to tell the
difference between these two states, and we need to know this in order
to know whether we can send an echo or not.

Resolve this by adding a new statusEnum value -- CifsNeedNegotiate. When
the socket has been connected but has not yet had a NEGOTIATE_PROTOCOL
request done, set it to this value. Once the NEGOTIATE is done,
cifs_negotiate_protocol will set tcpStatus to CifsGood.

This also fixes and cleans the logic in cifs_reconnect and
cifs_reconnect_tcon. The old code checked for specific states when what
it really wants to know is whether the state has actually changed from
CifsNeedReconnect.

In cases where the packet has length inconsistencies, but the MID is
valid, this leads to unneeded delays. That's especially problematic now
that the client waits indefinitely for responses.

Instead, don't immediately discard the packet if checkSMB fails. Try to
find a matching mid_q_entry, mark it as having a malformed response and
issue the callback.

Jeff Layton 247ec9b418 cifs: don't send an echo request unless NegProt has been done
When the socket to the server is disconnected, the client more or less
immediately calls cifs_reconnect to reconnect the socket. The NegProt
and SessSetup however are not done until an actual call needs to be
made.

With the addition of the SMB echo code, it's possible that the server
will initiate a disconnect on an idle socket. The client will then
reconnect the socket but no NegotiateProtocol request is done. The
SMBEcho workqueue job will then eventually pop, and an SMBEcho will be
sent on the socket. The server will then reject it since no NegProt was
done.

The ideal fix would be to either have the socket not be reconnected
until we plan to use it, or to immediately do a NegProt when the
reconnect occurs. The code is not structured for this however. For now
we must just settle for not sending any echoes until the NegProt is
done.

Rob Landley f1d0c99865 Make CIFS mount work in a container.
Teach cifs about network namespaces, so mounting uses adresses/routing
visible from the container rather than from init context.

A container is a chroot on steroids that changes more than just the root
filesystem the new processes see. One thing containers can isolate is
"network namespaces", meaning each container can have its own set of
ethernet interfaces, each with its own own IP address and routing to the
outside world. And if you open a socket in _userspace_ from processes
within such a container, this works fine.

But sockets opened from within the kernel still use a single global
networking context in a lot of places, meaning the new socket's address
and routing are correct for PID 1 on the host, but are _not_ what
userspace processes in the container get to use.

So when you mount a network filesystem from within in a container, the
mount code in the CIFS driver uses the host's networking context and not
the container's networking context, so it gets the wrong address, uses
the wrong routing, and may even try to go out an interface that the
container can't even access... Bad stuff.

This patch copies the mount process's network context into the CIFS
structure that stores the rest of the server information for that mount
point, and changes the socket open code to use the saved network context
instead of the global network context. I.E. "when you attempt to use
these addresses, do so relative to THIS set of network interfaces and
routing rules, not the old global context from back before we supported
containers".

The big long HOWTO sets up a test environment on the assumption you've
never used ocntainers before. It basically says:

1) configure and build a new kernel that has container support
2) build a new root filesystem that includes the userspace container
control package (LXC)
3) package/run them under KVM (so you don't have to mess up your host
system in order to play with containers).
4) set up some containers under the KVM system
5) set up contradictory routing in the KVM system and the container so
that the host and the container see different things for the same address
6) try to mount a CIFS share from both contexts so you can both force it
to work and force it to fail.

For a long drawn out test reproduction sequence, see:

Jeff Layton bd76331955 cifs: add cruid= mount option
In commit 3e4b3e1f we separated the "uid" mount option such that it
no longer determined the owner of the credential cache by default. When
we did this, we added a new option to cifs.upcall (--legacy-uid) to
try to make it so that it would behave the same was as it did before.

This ignored a rather important point -- the kernel has no way to know
what options are being passed to cifs.upcall, so it doesn't know what
uid it should use to determine whether to match an existing krb5 session.

The simplest solution is to simply add a new "cruid=" mount option that
only governs the uid owner of the credential cache for the mount.

Unfortunately, this means that the --legacy-uid option in cifs.upcall was
ill-considered and is now useless, but I don't see a better way to deal
with this.

Suresh Jayaraman 6d20e8406f cifs: add attribute cache timeout (actimeo) tunable
Currently, the attribute cache timeout for CIFS is hardcoded to 1 second. This
means that the client might have to issue a QPATHINFO/QFILEINFO call every 1
second to verify if something has changes, which seems too expensive. On the
other hand, if the timeout is hardcoded to a higher value, workloads that
expect strict cache coherency might see unexpected results.

Making attribute cache timeout as a tunable will allow us to make a tradeoff
between performance and cache metadata correctness depending on the
application/workload needs.

Add 'actimeo' tunable that can be used to tune the attribute cache timeout.
The default timeout is set to 1 second. Also, display actimeo option value in
/proc/mounts.

It appears to me that 'actimeo' and the proposed (but not yet merged)
'strictcache' option cannot coexist, so care must be taken that we reset the

Radix trees are ideal when you want to track a bunch of pointers and
can't embed a tracking structure within the target of those pointers.
The tradeoff is an increase in memory, particularly if the tree is
sparse.

In CIFS, we use the tlink_tree to track tcon_link structs. A tcon_link
can never be in more than one tlink_tree, so there's no impediment to
using a rb_tree here instead of a radix tree.

Jeff Layton 9d002df492 cifs: add routines to build sessions and tcons on the fly
This patch is rather large, but it's a bit difficult to do piecemeal...

For non-multiuser mounts, everything will basically work as it does
today. A call to cifs_sb_tlink will return the "master" tcon link.

Turn the tcon pointer in the cifs_sb into a radix tree that uses the
fsuid of the process as a key. The value is a new "tcon_link" struct
that contains info about a tcon that's under construction.

When a new process needs a tcon, it'll call cifs_sb_tcon. That will
then look up the tcon_link in the radix tree. If it exists and is
valid, it's returned.

If it doesn't exist, then we stuff a new tcon_link into the tree and
mark it as pending and then go and try to build the session/tcon.
If that works, the tcon pointer in the tcon_link is updated and the
pending flag is cleared.

If the construction fails, then we set the tcon pointer to an ERR_PTR
and clear the pending flag.

If the radix tree is searched and the tcon_link is marked pending
then we go to sleep and wait for the pending flag to be cleared.

Shirish Pargaonkar 2b149f1197 cifs NTLMv2/NTLMSSP ntlmv2 within ntlmssp autentication code
Attribue Value (AV) pairs or Target Info (TI) pairs are part of
ntlmv2 authentication.
Structure ntlmv2_resp had only definition for two av pairs.
So removed it, and now allocation of av pairs is dynamic.
For servers like Windows 7/2008, av pairs sent by server in
challege packet (type 2 in the ntlmssp exchange/negotiation) can
vary.

Server sends them during ntlmssp negotiation. So when ntlmssp is used
as an authentication mechanism, type 2 challenge packet from server
has this information. Pluck it and use the entire blob for
authenticaiton purpose. If user has not specified, extract
(netbios) domain name from the av pairs which is used to calculate
ntlmv2 hash. Servers like Windows 7 are particular about the AV pair
blob.

Servers like Windows 2003, are not very strict about the contents
of av pair blob used during ntlmv2 authentication.
So when security mechanism such as ntlmv2 is used (not ntlmv2 in ntlmssp),
there is no negotiation and so genereate a minimal blob that gets
used in ntlmv2 authentication as well as gets sent.

Fields tilen and tilbob are session specific. AV pair values are defined.

To calculate ntlmv2 response we need ti/av pair blob.

For sec mech like ntlmssp, the blob is plucked from type 2 response from
the server. From this blob, netbios name of the domain is retrieved,
if user has not already provided, to be included in the Target String
as part of ntlmv2 hash calculations.

For sec mech like ntlmv2, create a minimal, two av pair blob.

The allocated blob is freed in case of error. In case there is no error,
this blob is used in calculating ntlmv2 response (in CalcNTLMv2_response)
and is also copied on the response to the server, and then freed.

The type 3 ntlmssp response is prepared on a buffer,
5 * sizeof of struct _AUTHENTICATE_MESSAGE, an empirical value large
enough to hold _AUTHENTICATE_MESSAGE plus a blob with max possible
10 values as part of ntlmv2 response and lmv2 keys and domain, user,
workstation names etc.

Also, kerberos gets selected as a default mechanism if server supports it,
over the other security mechanisms.

Jeff Layton 460cf3411b cifs: fix potential double put of TCP session reference
cifs_get_smb_ses must be called on a server pointer on which it holds an
active reference. It first does a search for an existing SMB session. If
it finds one, it'll put the server reference and then try to ensure that
the negprot is done, etc.

If it encounters an error at that point then it'll return an error.
There's a potential problem here though. When cifs_get_smb_ses returns
an error, the caller will also put the TCP server reference leading to a
double-put.

Fix this by having cifs_get_smb_ses only put the server reference if
it found an existing session that it could use and isn't returning an
error.

Jeff Layton 7332f2a621 cifs: eliminate some more premature cifsd exits
If the tcpStatus is still CifsNew, the main cifs_demultiplex_loop can
break out prematurely in some cases. This is wrong as we will almost
always have other structures with pointers to the TCP_Server_Info. If
the main loop breaks under any other condition other than tcpStatus ==
CifsExiting, then it'll face a use-after-free situation.

I don't see any reason to treat a CifsNew tcpStatus differently than
CifsGood. I believe we'll still want to attempt to reconnect in either
case. What should happen in those situations is that the MIDs get marked
as MID_RETRY_NEEDED. This will make CIFSSMBNegotiate return -EAGAIN, and
then the caller can retry the whole thing on a newly reconnected socket.
If that fails again in the same way, the caller of cifs_get_smb_ses
should tear down the TCP_Server_Info struct.

Jeff Layton 522bbe65a2 cifs: prevent cifsd from exiting prematurely
When cifs_demultiplex_thread exits, it does a number of cleanup tasks
including freeing the TCP_Server_Info struct. Much of the existing code
in cifs assumes that when there is a cisfSesInfo struct, that it holds a
reference to a valid TCP_Server_Info struct.

We can never allow cifsd to exit when a cifsSesInfo struct is still
holding a reference to the server. The server pointers will then point
to freed memory.

This patch eliminates a couple of questionable conditions where it does
this. The idea here is to make an -EINTR return from kernel_recvmsg
behave the same way as -ERESTARTSYS or -EAGAIN. If the task was
signalled from cifs_put_tcp_session, then tcpStatus will be CifsExiting,
and the kernel_recvmsg call will return quickly.

There's also another condition where this can occur too -- if the
tcpStatus is still in CifsNew, then it will also exit if the server
closes the socket prematurely. I think we'll probably also need to fix
that situation, but that requires a bit more consideration.

Jeff Layton 3e4b3e1f68 cifs: add separate cred_uid field to sesInfo
Right now, there's no clear separation between the uid that owns the
credentials used to do the mount and the overriding owner of the files

Add a separate cred_uid field that is set to the real uid
of the mount user. Unlike the linux_uid, the uid= option does not
override this parameter. The parm is sent to cifs.upcall, which can then
preferentially use the creduid= parm instead of the uid= parm for
finding credentials.

This is not the only way to solve this. We could try to do all of this
in kernel instead by having a module parameter that affects what gets
passed in the uid= field of the upcall. That said, we have a lot more
flexibility to change things in userspace so I think it probably makes

This patch replaces the earlier patch by the same name. The only
difference is that MAX_PASSWORD_SIZE has been increased to attempt to

Do a better job of matching sessions by authtype. Matching by username
for a Kerberos session is incorrect, and anonymous sessions need special
handling.

Also, in the case where we do match by username, we also need to match
by password. That ensures that someone else doesn't "borrow" an existing

Tejun Heo 5a0e3ad6af include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h
percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.

percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

  http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py

The script does the followings.

* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.

* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.

* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
  file.

The conversion was done in the following steps.

1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
   files.

2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
   inclusions to around 150 files.

3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.

4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
   e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.

5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
   necessary.

6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.

7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).

   * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
   * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * ia64 SMP allmodconfig
   * s390 SMP allmodconfig
   * alpha SMP allmodconfig
   * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig

8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.

Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

Jeff Layton a2934c7b36 cifs: NULL out tcon, pSesInfo, and srvTcp pointers when chasing DFS referrals
The scenario is this:

The kernel gets EREMOTE and starts chasing a DFS referral at mount time.
The tcon reference is put, which puts the session reference too, but
neither pointer is zeroed out.

The mount gets retried (goto try_mount_again) with new mount info.
Session setup fails fails and rc ends up being non-zero. The code then
falls through to the end and tries to put the previously freed tcon
pointer again. Oops at: cifs_put_smb_ses+0x14/0xd0

Fix this by moving the initialization of the rc variable and the tcon,
pSesInfo and srvTcp pointers below the try_mount_again label. Also, add

Because it's lighter weight, CIFS tries to use CIFSGetSrvInodeNumber to

of a server that returns NT_STATUS_INTERNAL_ERROR rather than something
that translates to EOPNOTSUPP.

Rather than trying to be clever with that call, just have
is_path_accessible do a normal QPathInfo. That call is widely

Jeff Layton 3bc303c254 cifs: convert oplock breaks to use slow_work facility (try #4)
This is the fourth respin of the patch to convert oplock breaks to
use the slow_work facility.

A customer of ours was testing a backport of one of the earlier
patchsets, and hit a "Busy inodes after umount..." problem. An oplock
break job had raced with a umount, and the superblock got torn down and
its memory reused. When the oplock break job tried to dereference the
inode->i_sb, the kernel oopsed.

This patchset has the oplock break job hold an inode and vfsmount
reference until the oplock break completes. With this, there should be
no need to take a tcon reference (the vfsmount implicitly holds one
already).

Currently, when an oplock break comes in there's a chance that the
oplock break job won't occur if the allocation of the oplock_q_entry
fails. There are also some rather nasty races in the allocation and
handling these structs.

Rather than allocating oplock queue entries when an oplock break comes
in, add a few extra fields to the cifsFileInfo struct. Get rid of the
dedicated cifs_oplock_thread as well and queue the oplock break job to
the slow_work thread pool.

This approach also has the advantage that the oplock break jobs can
potentially run in parallel rather than be serialized like they are
today.

Suresh Jayaraman bdb97adcdf PATCH] cifs: fix broken mounts when a SSH tunnel is used (try #4)
One more try..

It seems there is a regression that got introduced while Jeff fixed
all the mount/umount races. While attempting to find whether a tcp
session is already existing, we were not checking whether the "port"
used are the same. When a second mount is attempted with a different
"port=" option, it is being ignored. Because of this the cifs mounts
that uses a SSH tunnel appears to be broken.

Steps to reproduce:

1. create 2 shares
# SSH Tunnel a SMB session
2. ssh -f -L 6111:127.0.0.1:445 root@localhost "sleep 86400"
3. ssh -f -L 6222:127.0.0.1:445 root@localhost "sleep 86400"
4. tcpdump -i lo 6111 &
5. mkdir -p /mnt/mnt1
6. mkdir -p /mnt/mnt2
7. mount.cifs //localhost/a /mnt/mnt1 -o username=guest,ip=127.0.0.1,port=6111
#(shows tcpdump activity on port 6111)
8. mount.cifs //localhost/b /mnt/mnt2 -o username=guest,ip=127.0.0.1,port=6222
#(shows tcpdump activity only on port 6111 and not on 6222

Fix by adding a check to compare the port _only_ if the user tries to
override the tcp port with "port=" option, before deciding that an
existing tcp session is found. Also, clean up a bit by replacing
if-else if by a switch statment while at it as suggested by Jeff.

Jeff Layton 9b9d6b2434 cifs: reinstate original behavior when uid=/gid= options are specified
This patch fixes the regression reported here:

http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13861

commit 4ae1507f6d changed the default
behavior when the uid= or gid= option was specified for a mount. The
existing behavior was to always clobber the ownership information
provided by the server when these options were specified. The above
commit changed this behavior so that these options simply provided
defaults when the server did not provide this information (unless
"forceuid" or "forcegid" were specified)

This patch reverts this change so that the default behavior is restored.
It also adds "noforceuid" and "noforcegid" options to make it so that
ownership information from the server is preserved, even when the mount
has uid= or gid= options specified.

It also adds a couple of printk notices that pop up when forceuid or
forcegid options are specified without a uid= or gid= option.

Jeff Layton 03aa3a49ad cifs: fix sb->s_maxbytes so that it casts properly to a signed value
This off-by-one bug causes sendfile() to not work properly. When a task
calls sendfile() on a file on a CIFS filesystem, the syscall returns -1
and sets errno to EOVERFLOW.

do_sendfile uses s_maxbytes to verify the returned offset of the file.
The problem there is that this value is cast to a signed value (loff_t).
When this is done on the s_maxbytes value that cifs uses, it becomes
negative and the comparisons against it fail.

Even though s_maxbytes is an unsigned value, it seems that it's not OK
to set it in such a way that it'll end up negative when it's cast to a
signed value. These casts happen in other codepaths besides sendfile
too, but the VFS is a little hard to follow in this area and I can't
be sure if there are other bugs that this will fix.

It's not clear to me why s_maxbytes isn't just declared as loff_t in the
first place, but either way we still need to fix these values to make
sendfile work properly. This is also an opportunity to replace the magic
bit-shift values here with the standard #defines for this.

This fixes the reproducer program I have that does a sendfile and
will probably also fix the situation where apache is serving from a
CIFS share.

Jeff Layton 681bf72e48 cifs: have cifs parse scope_id out of IPv6 addresses and use it
This patch has CIFS look for a '%' in an IPv6 address. If one is
present then it will try to treat that value as a numeric interface
index suitable for stuffing into the sin6_scope_id field.

This should allow people to mount servers on IPv6 link-local addresses.

Jeff Layton 58f7f68f22 cifs: add addr= mount option alias for ip=
When you look in /proc/mounts, the address of the server gets displayed
as "addr=". That's really a better option to use anyway since it's more
generic. What if we eventually want to support non-IP transports? It
also makes CIFS option consistent with the NFS option of the same name.

Begin the migration to that option name by adding an alias for ip=
called addr=.

Jeff Layton 4ae1507f6d cifs: make overriding of ownership conditional on new mount options
We have a bit of a problem with the uid= option. The basic issue is that
it means too many things and has too many side-effects.

It's possible to allow an unprivileged user to mount a filesystem if the
user owns the mountpoint, /bin/mount is setuid root, and the mount is
set up in /etc/fstab with the "user" option.

When doing this though, /bin/mount automatically adds the "uid=" and
"gid=" options to the share. This is fortunate since the correct uid=
option is needed in order to tell the upcall what user's credcache to
use when generating the SPNEGO blob.

On a mount without unix extensions this is fine -- you generally will
want the files to be owned by the "owner" of the mount. The problem
comes in on a mount with unix extensions. With those enabled, the
uid/gid options cause the ownership of files to be overriden even though
the server is sending along the ownership info.

This means that it's not possible to have a mount by an unprivileged
user that shows the server's file ownership info. The result is also
inode permissions that have no reflection at all on the server. You
simply cannot separate ownership from the mode in this fashion.

This behavior also makes MultiuserMount option less usable. Once you
pass in the uid= option for a mount, then you can't use unix ownership
info and allow someone to share the mount.

While I'm not thrilled with it, the only solution I can see is to stop
making uid=/gid= force the overriding of ownership on mounts, and to add
new mount options that turn this behavior on.

Jeff Layton 50b64e3b77 cifs: fix IPv6 address length check
For IPv6 the userspace mount helper sends an address in the "ip="
option. This check fails if the length is > 35 characters. I have no
idea where the magic 35 character limit came from, but it's clearly not
enough for IPv6. Fix it by making it use the INET6_ADDRSTRLEN #define.

While we're at it, use the same #define for the address length in SPNEGO
upcalls.

Jeff Layton f55ed1a83d cifs: tighten up default file_mode/dir_mode
The current default file mode is 02767 and dir mode is 0777. This is
extremely "loose". Given that CIFS is a single-user protocol, these
permissions allow anyone to use the mount -- in effect, giving anyone on
the machine access to the credentials used to mount the share.

Change this by making the default permissions restrict write access to
the default owner of the mount. Give read and execute permissions to
everyone else. These are the same permissions that VFAT mounts get by
default so there is some precedent here.

Note that this patch also removes the mandatory locking flags from the
default file_mode. After having looked at how these flags are used by
the kernel, I don't think that keeping them as the default offers any
real benefit. That flag combination makes it so that the kernel enforces
mandatory locking.

Since the server is going to do that for us anyway, I don't think we
want the client to enforce this by default on applications that just
want advisory locks. Anyone that does want this behavior can always
enable it by setting the file_mode appropriately.

Steve French 20418acd68 [CIFS] Remove older session setup implementation
Two years ago, when the session setup code in cifs was rewritten and moved
to fs/cifs/sess.c, we were asked to keep the old code for a release or so
(which could be reenabled at runtime) since it was such a large change and
because the asn (SPNEGO) and NTLMSSP code was not rewritten and needed to
be. This was useful to avoid regressions, but is long overdue to be removed.
Now that the Kerberos (asn/spnego) code is working in fs/cifs/sess.c,
and the NTLMSSP code moved (NTLMSSP blob setup be rewritten with the
next patch in this series) quite a bit of dead code from fs/cifs/connect.c
now can be removed.

This old code should have been removed last year, but the earlier krb5
patches did not move/remove the NTLMSSP code which we had asked to
be done first. Since no one else volunteered, I am doing it now.

It is extremely important that we continue to examine the documentation
for this area, to make sure our code continues to be uptodate with
changes since Windows 2003.

very slow, and some servers may be reliable enough (to risk
delaying slightly flushing the data to disk on the server),
turning on this option may be useful to improve performance for
applications that fsync too much, at a small risk of server

Steve French 13a6e42af8 [CIFS] add mount option to send mandatory rather than advisory locks
Some applications/subsystems require mandatory byte range locks
(as is used for Windows/DOS/OS2 etc). Sending advisory (posix style)
byte range lock requests (instead of mandatory byte range locks) can
lead to problems for these applications (which expect that other
clients be prevented from writing to portions of the file which
they have locked and are updating). This mount option allows
mounting cifs with the new mount option "forcemand" (or
"forcemandatorylock") in order to have the cifs client use mandatory
byte range locks (ie SMB/CIFS/Windows/NTFS style locks) rather than
posix byte range lock requests, even if the server would support
posix byte range lock requests. This has no effect if the server
does not support the CIFS Unix Extensions (since posix style locks
require support for the CIFS Unix Extensions), but for mounts
to Samba servers this can be helpful for Wine and applications
that require mandatory byte range locks.

Jeff Layton 14fbf50d69 cifs: reinstate sharing of SMB sessions sans races
We do this by abandoning the global list of SMB sessions and instead
moving to a per-server list. This entails adding a new list head to the
TCP_Server_Info struct. The refcounting for the cifsSesInfo is moved to
a non-atomic variable. We have to protect it by a lock anyway, so there's
no benefit to making it an atomic. The list and refcount are protected
by the global cifs_tcp_ses_lock.

The patch also adds a new routines to find and put SMB sessions and
that properly take and put references under the lock.

Jeff Layton e7ddee9037 cifs: disable sharing session and tcon and add new TCP sharing code
The code that allows these structs to be shared is extremely racy.
Disable the sharing of SMB and tcon structs for now until we can
come up with a way to do this that's race free.

We want to continue to share TCP sessions, however since they are
required for multiuser mounts. For that, implement a new (hopefully
race-free) scheme. Add a new global list of TCP sessions, and take
care to get a reference to it whenever we're dealing with one.

Steve French 3ec332ef7a [CIFS] clean up server protocol handling
We're currently declaring both a sockaddr_in and sockaddr6_in on the
stack, but we really only need storage for one of them. Declare a
sockaddr struct and cast it to the proper type. Also, eliminate the
protocolType field in the TCP_Server_Info struct. It's redundant since
we have a sa_family field in the sockaddr anyway.

We may need to revisit this if SCTP is ever implemented, but for now
this will simplify the code.

CIFS over IPv6 also has a number of problems currently. This fixes all
of them that I found. Eventually, it would be nice to move more of the
code to be protocol independent, but this is a start.

Steve French 3b79521093 [CIFS] Fix cifs reconnection flags
In preparation for Jeff's big umount/mount fixes to remove the possibility of
various races in cifs mount and linked list handling of sessions, sockets and
tree connections, this patch cleans up some repetitive code in cifs_mount,
and addresses a problem with ses->status and tcon->tidStatus in which we
were overloading the "need_reconnect" state with other status in that
field. So the "need_reconnect" flag has been broken out from those
two state fields (need reconnect was not mutually exclusive from some of the
other possible tid and ses states). In addition, a few exit cases in
cifs_mount were cleaned up, and a problem with a tcon flag (for lease support)
was not being set consistently for the 2nd mount of the same share

Steve French edf1ae4038 [CIFS] Reduce number of socket retries in large write path
CIFS in some heavy stress conditions cifs could get EAGAIN
repeatedly in smb_send2 which led to repeated retries and eventually
failure of large writes which could lead to data corruption.

There are three changes that were suggested by various network
developers:

1) convert cifs from non-blocking to blocking tcp sendmsg
(we left in the retry on failure)
2) change cifs to not set sendbuf and rcvbuf size for the socket
(let tcp autotune the buffer sizes since that works much better
in the TCP stack now)
3) if we have a partial frame sent in smb_send2, mark the tcp
session as invalid (close the socket and reconnect) so we do
not corrupt the remaining part of the SMB with the beginning
of the next SMB.

This does not appear to hurt performance measurably and has
been run in various scenarios, but it definately removes
a corruption that we were seeing in some high stress
test cases.

Jeff Layton b1c8d2b421 cifs: handle the TCP_Server_Info->tsk field more carefully
cifs: handle the TCP_Server_Info->tsk field more carefully

We currently handle the TCP_Server_Info->tsk field without any locking,
but with some half-measures to try and prevent races. These aren't
really sufficient though. When taking down cifsd, use xchg() to swap
the contents of the tsk field with NULL so we don't end up trying
to send it more than one signal. Also, don't allow cifsd to exit until
the signal is received if we expect one.

Steve French 84210e9120 [CIFS] improve setlease handling
fcntl(F_SETLEASE) currently is not exported by cifs (nor by local file
systems) so cifs grants leases based on how other local processes have
opened the file not by whether the file is cacheable (oplocked). This
adds the check to make sure that the file is cacheable on the client
before checking whether we can grant the lease locally
(generic_setlease). It also adds a mount option for cifs (locallease)
if the user wants to override this and try to grant leases even
if the server did not grant oplock.

Jeff Layton 469ee614aa [CIFS] eliminate usage of kthread_stop for cifsd
When cifs_demultiplex_thread was converted to a kthread based kernel
thread, great pains were taken to make it so that kthread_stop would be
used to bring it down. This just added unnecessary complexity since we
needed to use a signal anyway to break out of kernel_recvmsg.

Also, cifs_demultiplex_thread does a bit of cleanup as it's exiting, and
we need to be certain that this gets done. It's possible for a kthread
to exit before its main function is ever run if kthread_stop is called
soon after its creation. While I'm not sure that this is a real problem
with cifsd now, it could be at some point in the future if cifs_mount is
ever changed to bring down the thread quickly.

The upshot here is that using kthread_stop to bring down the thread just
adds extra complexity with no real benefit. This patch changes the code
to use the original method to bring down the thread, but still leaves it
so that the thread is actually started with kthread_run.

This seems to fix the deadlock caused by the reproducer in this bug
report:

the cifs clients starts sending DFS paths in such situations, rendering
it unuseable with older samba servers.

The nodfs mount options forces a share to be used with non DFS paths,
even if the server claims, that it supports it.

Steve French 95b1cb90b7 [CIFS] enable parsing for transport encryption mount parm
Samba now supports transport encryption on particular exports
(mounted tree ids can be encrypted for servers which support the
unix extensions). This adds parsing support to cifs mount
option parsing for this.

Jeff Layton d0a9c078db [CIFS] CIFS currently allows for permissions to be changed on files, even
when unix extensions and cifsacl support are disabled. These
permissions changes are "ephemeral" however. They are lost whenever
a share is mounted and unmounted, or when memory pressure forces
the inode out of the cache.

Because of this, we'd like to introduce a behavior change to make
CIFS behave more like local DOS/Windows filesystems. When unix
extensions and cifsacl support aren't enabled, then don't silently
ignore changes to permission bits that can't be reflected on the
server.

Still, there may be people relying on the current behavior for
certain applications. This patch adds a new "dynperm" (and a
corresponding "nodynperm") mount option that will be intended
to make the client fall back to legacy behavior when setting
these modes.

Steve French e691b9d1a0 [CIFS] don't allow demultiplex thread to exit until kthread_stop is called
cifs_demultiplex_thread can exit under several conditions:

1) if it's signaled
2) if there's a problem with session setup
3) if kthread_stop is called on it

The first two are problems. If kthread_stop is called on the thread,
there is no guarantee that it will still be up. We need to have the
thread stay up until kthread_stop is called on it.

One option would be to not even try to tear things down until after
kthread_stop is called. However, in the case where there is a problem
setting up the session, there's no real reason to try continuing the
loop.

This patch allows the thread to clean up and prepare for exit under all
three conditions, but it has the thread go to sleep until kthread_stop
is called. This allows us to simplify the shutdown code somewhat since
we can be reasonably sure that the thread won't exit after being
signaled but before kthread_stop is called.

It also removes the places where the thread itself set the tsk variable
since it appeared that it could have a potential race where the thread
might never be shut down.

Jeff Layton 02eadeffda [CIFS] add local struct inode pointer to cifs_setattr
Clean up cifs_setattr a bit by adding a local inode pointer, and
changing all of the direntry->d_inode references to it. This also adds a
bit of micro-optimization. d_inode shouldn't change over the life of
this function, so we only need to dereference it once.
