Add options to strictly validate messages and dump messages,
sometimes perhaps validating dump messages non-strictly may
be required, so add an option for that as well.
Since none of this can really be applied to existing commands,
set the options everwhere using the following spatch:

struct genl_ops ops[] = {
...,
{
.cmd = X,
+ .validate = GENL_DONT_VALIDATE_STRICT | GENL_DONT_VALIDATE_DUMP,

flags and thus get strict validation.

We currently have two levels of strict validation:
1) liberal (default)
- undefined (type >= max) & NLA_UNSPEC attributes accepted
- attribute length >= expected accepted
- garbage at end of message accepted
2) strict (opt-in)
- NLA_UNSPEC attributes accepted
- attribute length >= expected accepted
Split out parsing strictness into four different options:
* TRAILING - check that there's no trailing data after parsing
attributes (in message or nested)
* MAXTYPE - reject attrs > max known type
* UNSPEC - reject attributes with NLA_UNSPEC policy entries
* STRICT_ATTRS - strictly validate attribute size
The default for future things should be *everything*.
The current *_strict() is a combination of TRAILING and MAXTYPE,
and is renamed to _deprecated_strict().
The current regular parsing has none of this, and is renamed to
*_parse_deprecated().
Additionally it allows us to selectively set one of the new flags
even on old policies. Notably, the UNSPEC flag could be useful in
this case, since it can be arranged (by filling in the policy) to
not be an incompatible userspace ABI change, but would then going
forward prevent forgetting attribute entries. Similar can apply
to the POLICY flag.
We end up with the following renames:
* nla_parse -> nla_parse_deprecated
* nla_parse_strict -> nla_parse_deprecated_strict
* nlmsg_parse -> nlmsg_parse_deprecated
* nlmsg_parse_strict -> nlmsg_parse_deprecated_strict
* nla_parse_nested -> nla_parse_nested_deprecated
* nla_validate_nested -> nla_validate_nested_deprecated

For this patch, don't actually add the strict, non-renamed versions
yet so that it breaks compile if I get it wrong.
Also, while at it, make nla_validate and nla_parse go down to a
common __nla_validate_parse() function to avoid code duplication.
Ultimately, this allows us to have very strict validation for every
new caller of nla_parse()/nlmsg_parse() etc as re-introduced in the
next patch, while existing things will continue to work as is.
In effect then, this adds fully strict validation for any new command.

Even if the NLA_F_NESTED flag was introduced more than 11 years ago, most
netlink based interfaces (including recently added ones) are still not
setting it in kernel generated messages. Without the flag, message parsers
not aware of attribute semantics (e.g. wireshark dissector or libmnl's
mnl_nlmsg_fprintf()) cannot recognize nested attributes and won't display
the structure of their contents.
Unfortunately we cannot just add the flag everywhere as there may be
userspace applications which check nlattr::nla_type directly rather than
through a helper masking out the flags. Therefore the patch renames
nla_nest_start() to nla_nest_start_noflag() and introduces nla_nest_start()
as a wrapper adding NLA_F_NESTED. The calls which add NLA_F_NESTED manually
are rewritten to use nla_nest_start().

Adding support to allow mesh HWMP to measure link metrics on unexercised
direct mesh path by sending some data frames to other mesh points which
are not currently selected as a primary traffic path but only 1 hop away.
The absence of the primary path to the chosen node makes it necessary to
apply some form of marking on a chosen packet stream so that the packets
can be properly steered to the selected node for testing, and not by the
regular mesh path lookup.

One of the more common cases of allocation size calculations is finding
the size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along
with memory for some number of elements for that array. For example:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo entry[];
};
size = sizeof(struct foo) + count * sizeof(struct boo);
instance = kzalloc(size, GFP_KERNEL)
Instead of leaving these open-coded and prone to type mistakes, we can
now use the new struct_size() helper:
instance = kzalloc(struct_size(instance, entry, count), GFP_KERNEL)
Notice that, in this case, variable size_of_regd is not necessary,
hence it is removed.

FullMAC STAs have no way to update bss channel after CSA channel switch
completion. As a result, user-space tools may provide inconsistent
channel info. For instance, consider the following two commands:
$ sudo iw dev wlan0 link
$ sudo iw dev wlan0 info
The latter command gets channel info from the hardware, so most probably
its output will be correct. However the former command gets channel info
from scan cache, so its output will contain outdated channel info.
In fact, current bss channel info will not be updated until the
next [re-]connect.
Note that mac80211 STAs have a workaround for this, but it requires
access to internal cfg80211 data, see ieee80211_chswitch_work:
/* XXX: shouldn't really modify cfg80211-owned data! */
ifmgd->associated->channel = sdata->csa_chandef.chan;
This patch suggests to convert mac80211 workaround into cfg80211 behavior
and to update current bss channel in cfg80211_ch_switch_notify.

The flags field in 'struct shash_desc' never actually does anything.
The only ostensibly supported flag is CRYPTO_TFM_REQ_MAY_SLEEP.
However, no shash algorithm ever sleeps, making this flag a no-op.
With this being the case, inevitably some users who can't sleep wrongly
pass MAY_SLEEP. These would all need to be fixed if any shash algorithm
actually started sleeping. For example, the shash_ahash_*() functions,
which wrap a shash algorithm with the ahash API, pass through MAY_SLEEP
from the ahash API to the shash API. However, the shash functions are
called under kmap_atomic(), so actually they're assumed to never sleep.
Even if it turns out that some users do need preemption points while
hashing large buffers, we could easily provide a helper function
crypto_shash_update_large() which divides the data into smaller chunks
and calls crypto_shash_update() and cond_resched() for each chunk. It's
not necessary to have a flag in 'struct shash_desc', nor is it necessary
to make individual shash algorithms aware of this at all.
Therefore, remove shash_desc::flags, and document that the
crypto_shash_*() functions can be called from any context.

This interface allows the host driver to offload OWE processing
to user space. This intends to support OWE (Opportunistic Wireless
Encryption) AKM by the drivers that implement SME but rely on the
user space for the cryptographic/OWE processing in AP mode. Such
drivers are not capable of processing/deriving the DH IE.
A new NL80211 command - NL80211_CMD_UPDATE_OWE_INFO is introduced
to send the request/event between the host driver and user space.
Driver shall provide the OWE info (MAC address and DH IE) of
the peer to user space for cryptographic processing of the DH IE
through the event. Accordingly, the user space shall update the
OWE info/DH IE to the driver.
Following is the sequence in AP mode for OWE authentication.
Driver passes the OWE info obtained from the peer in the
Association Request to the user space through the event
cfg80211_update_owe_info_event. User space shall process the
OWE info received and generate new OWE info. This OWE info is
passed to the driver through NL80211_CMD_UPDATE_OWE_INFO
request. Driver eventually uses this OWE info to send the
Association Response to the peer.
This OWE info in the command interface carries the IEs that include
PMKID of the peer if the PMKSA is still valid or an updated DH IE
for generating a new PMKSA with the peer.

This commit adds the support to specify the RSSI thresholds per
band for each match set. This enhances the current behavior which
specifies a single rssi_threshold across all the bands by
introducing the rssi_threshold_per_band. These per band rssi
thresholds are referred through NL80211_BAND_* (enum nl80211_band)
variables as attribute types. Such attributes/values per each
band are nested through NL80211_ATTR_SCHED_SCAN_MIN_RSSI.
These band specific rssi thresholds shall take precedence over
the current rssi_thold per match set.
Drivers indicate this support through
%NL80211_EXT_FEATURE_SCHED_SCAN_BAND_SPECIFIC_RSSI_THOLD.
These per band rssi attributes/values does not specify
"default RSSI filter" as done by
NL80211_SCHED_SCAN_MATCH_ATTR_RSSI to stay backward compatible.
That said, these per band rssi values have to be specified for
the corresponding matchset.

so make it common as well.
The only user that did in fact manage to make a non-common policy
is taskstats, which has to be really careful about it (since it's

we can fake it using pre_doit.
This reduces the size of e.g. nl80211.o (which has lots of commands):

What I've decided to do, in order to resolve this, is revert the

Jouni reports that in some cases it is possible that getting
disconnected (or stopping AP, after previous patches) results
in further operations hitting the window within the regulatory
core restoring the regdomain to the defaults. The reason for
this is that we have to call out to CRDA or otherwise do some
asynchronous work, and thus can't do the restore atomically.
However, we've previously seen all the data we need to do the
restore, so we can hang on to that data and use it later for
the restore. This makes the whole thing happen within a single
locked section and thus atomic.
However, we can't *always* do this - there are unfortunately
cases where the restore needs to re-request, because this is
also used (abused?) as an error recovery process, so make the
new behaviour optional and only use it when doing a regular
restore as described above.

Extension IEs have ID 255 followed by extension ID. Current
code is buggy in handling it in two ways:
1. When checking if IE is in the frame, it uses just the ID, which
for extension elements is too broad.

We currently have a number of helpers to find elements that just
return a u8 *, change those to return a struct element and add
inlines to deal with the u8 * compatibility.

Rather than always iterating elements from frames with pure
u8 pointers, add a type "struct element" that encapsulates
the id/datalen/data format of them.
Then, add the element iteration macros
* for_each_element
* for_each_element_id
* for_each_element_extid
which take, as their first 'argument', such a structure and
iterate through a given u8 array interpreting it as elements.
While at it and since we'll need it, also add
* for_each_subelement
* for_each_subelement_id
* for_each_subelement_extid
which instead of taking data/length just take an outer element
and use its data/datalen.
Also add for_each_element_completed() to determine if any of
the loops above completed, i.e. it was able to parse all of
the elements successfully and no data remained.
Use for_each_element_id() in cfg80211_find_ie_match() as the
first user of this.

ARRAY_SIZE(policy) - 1. Therefore, to be less error prone,
just remove the maxattr argument from the default macros
and deduce the size accordingly.

Host drivers may offload authentication to the user space
through the commit ("cfg80211: Authentication offload to
user space in AP mode").
This interface can be used to implement SAE by having the
userspace do authentication/PMKID key derivation and driver
handle the association.
A step ahead, this interface can get further optimized if the
PMKID is passed to the host driver and also have it respond to
the association request by the STA on a valid PMKID.
This commit enables the userspace to pass the PMKID to the host
drivers through the set/del pmksa operations in AP mode.
Set/Del pmksa is now restricted to STA/P2P client mode only and
thus the drivers might not expect them in any other(AP) mode.
This commit also introduces a feature flag
NL80211_EXT_FEATURE_AP_PMKSA_CACHING (johannes: renamed) to
maintain the backward compatibility of such an expectation by
the host drivers. These operations are allowed in AP mode only
when the drivers advertize the capability through this flag.

commit 40cbfa9021 ("cfg80211/nl80211: Optional authentication
offload to userspace")' introduced authentication offload to user
space by the host drivers in station mode. This commit extends
the same for the AP mode too.
Extend NL80211_ATTR_EXTERNAL_AUTH_SUPPORT to also claim the
support of external authentication from the user space in AP mode.
A new flag parameter is introduced in cfg80211_ap_settings to
intend the same while "start ap".
Host driver to use NL80211_CMD_FRAME interface to transmit and
receive the authentication frames to / from the user space.
Host driver to indicate the flag NL80211_RXMGMT_FLAG_EXTERNAL_AUTH
while sending the authentication frame to the user space. This
intends to the user space that the driver wishes it to process
the authentication frame for certain protocols, though it had
initially advertised the support for SME functionality.
User space shall accordingly do the authentication and indicate
its final status through the command NL80211_CMD_EXTERNAL_AUTH.
Allow the command even if userspace doesn't include the attribute
NL80211_ATTR_SSID for AP interface.
Host driver shall continue with the association sequence and
indicate the STA connection status through cfg80211_new_sta.
To facilitate the host drivers in AP mode for matching the pmkid
by the stations during the association, NL80211_CMD_EXTERNAL_AUTH
is also enhanced to include the pmkid to drivers after
the authentication.
This pmkid can also be used in the STA mode to include in the
association request.
Also modify nl80211_external_auth to not mandate SSID in AP mode.

There was no such capability advertisement from the driver and thus the
current user space has to assume the driver to support all the AKMs. While
that may be the case with some drivers (e.g., mac80211-based ones), there
are cfg80211-based drivers that implement SME and have constraints on
which AKMs can be supported (e.g., such drivers may need an update to
support SAE AKM using NL80211_CMD_EXTERNAL_AUTH). Allow such drivers to
advertise the exact set of supported AKMs so that user space tools can

syzbot reported an out-of-bounds read when passing certain

Currently radar detection and corresponding channel switch is handled
at the AP device. STA ignores these detected radar events since the
radar signal can be seen mostly by the AP as well. But in scenarios where
a radar signal is seen only at STA, notifying this event to the AP which
can trigger a channel switch can be useful.
Stations can report such radar events autonomously through Spectrum
management (Measurement Report) action frame to its AP. The userspace on
processing the report can notify the kernel with the use of the added
NL80211_CMD_NOTIFY_RADAR to indicate the detected event and inturn adding

This function was modified to support the information element extension
case (WLAN_EID_EXTENSION) in a manner that would result in an infinite
loop when going through set of IEs that include WLAN_EID_RIC_DATA and
contain an IE that is in the after_ric array. The only place where this
can currently happen is in mac80211 ieee80211_send_assoc() where
ieee80211_ie_split_ric() is called with after_ric[].
This can be triggered by valid data from user space nl80211
association/connect request (i.e., requiring GENL_UNS_ADMIN_PERM). The
only known application having an option to include WLAN_EID_RIC_DATA in
these requests is wpa_supplicant and it had a bug that prevented this
specific contents from being used (and because of that, not triggering
this kernel bug in an automated test case ap_ft_ric) and now that this
bug is fixed, it has a workaround to avoid this kernel issue.
WLAN_EID_RIC_DATA is currently used only for testing purposes, so this
does not cause significant harm for production use cases.

passing CRYPTO_ALG_ASYNC in the mask to crypto_alloc_cipher() has no
effect. Many users therefore already don't pass it, but some still do.

Add a new "peer measurement" API, that can be used to measure
certain things related to a peer. Right now, only implement
FTM (flight time measurement) over it, but the idea is that
it'll be extensible to also support measuring the necessary

The API is structured to have a generic list of peers and

set of measurements (again, only FTM right now) to perform.
Results are sent to the requesting socket, including a final
complete message.
Closing the controlling netlink socket will abort a running
measurement.
v3:
- add a bit to report "final" for partial results
- remove list keeping etc. and just unicast out the results
to the requester (big code reduction ...)
- also send complete message unicast, and as a result
remove the multicast group
- separate out struct cfg80211_pmsr_ftm_request_peer
from struct cfg80211_pmsr_request_peer
- document timeout == 0 if no timeout
- disallow setting timeout nl80211 attribute to 0,
must not include attribute for no timeout
- make MAC address randomization optional
- change num bursts exponent default to 0 (1 burst, rather
rather than the old default of 15==don't care)
v4:
- clarify NL80211_ATTR_TIMEOUT documentation
v5:
- remove unnecessary nl80211 multicast/family changes
- remove partial results bit/flag, final is sufficient
- add max_bursts_exponent, max_ftms_per_burst to capability
- rename "frames per burst" -> "FTMs per burst"
v6:
- rename cfg80211_pmsr_free_wdev() to cfg80211_pmsr_wdev_down()
and call it in leave, so the device can't go down with any
pending measurements
v7:
- wording fixes (Lior)
- fix ftm.max_bursts_exponent to allow having the limit of 0 (Lior)
v8:
- copyright statements
- minor coding style fixes
- fix error path leak

Currently when an AP and STA interfaces are active in the same or different
radios, regulatory settings are restored whenever the STA disconnects. This
restores all channel information including dfs states in all radios.
For example, if an AP interface is active in one radio and STA in another,
when radar is detected on the AP interface, the dfs state of the channel
will be changed to UNAVAILABLE. But when the STA interface disconnects,
this issues a regulatory disconnect hint which restores all regulatory
settings in all the radios attached and thereby losing the stored dfs
state on the other radio where the channel was marked as unavailable
earlier. Hence prevent such regulatory restore whenever another active
beaconing interface is present in the same or other radios.

Add support for drivers to report the total number of MPDUs received
and the number of MPDUs received with an FCS error from a specific
peer. These counters will be incremented only when the TA of the
frame matches the MAC address of the peer irrespective of FCS
error.
It should be noted that the TA field in the frame might be corrupted
when there is an FCS error and TA matching logic would fail in such
cases. Hence, FCS error counter might not be fully accurate, but it can
provide help in detecting bad RX links in significant number of cases.
This FCS error counter without full accuracy can be used, e.g., to
trigger a kick-out of a connected client with a bad link in AP mode to
force such a client to roam to another AP.

cfg80211_get_bss_channel() is used to update the RX channel based on the
available frame payload information (channel number from DSSS Parameter
Set element or HT Operation element). This is needed on 2.4 GHz channels
where frames may be received on neighboring channels due to overlapping
frequency range.
This might of some use on the 5 GHz band in some corner cases, but
things are more complex there since there is no n:1 or 1:n mapping
between channel numbers and frequencies due to multiple different
starting frequencies in different operating classes. This could result
in ieee80211_channel_to_frequency() returning incorrect frequency and
ieee80211_get_channel() returning incorrect channel information (or
indication of no match). In the previous implementation, this could
result in some scan results being dropped completely, e.g., for the 4.9
GHz channels. That prevented connection to such BSSs.
Fix this by using the driver-provided channel pointer if
ieee80211_get_channel() does not find matching channel data for the
channel number in the frame payload and if the scan is done with 5 MHz
or 10 MHz channel bandwidth. While doing this, also add comments
describing what the function is trying to achieve to make it easier to
understand what happens here and why.

The "chandef->center_freq1" variable is a u32 but "freq" is a u16 so we
are truncating away the high bits. I noticed this bug because in commit
9cf0a0b4b6 ("cfg80211: Add support for 60GHz band channels 5 and 6")
we made "freq <= 56160 + 2160 * 6" a valid requency when before it was
only "freq <= 56160 + 2160 * 4" that was valid. It introduces a static
checker warning:
net/wireless/util.c:1571 ieee80211_chandef_to_operating_class()
warn: always true condition '(freq <= 56160 + 2160 * 6) => (0-u16max <= 69120)'

When REGULATORY_COUNTRY_IE_IGNORE is set, __reg_process_hint_country_ie()
ignores the country code change request from __cfg80211_connect_result()
via regulatory_hint_country_ie().
After Disconnect, similar to above, country code should not be reset to
world when country IE ignore is set. But this is violated and restore of
regulatory settings is invoked by cfg80211_disconnect_work via
regulatory_hint_disconnect().
To address this, avoid regulatory restore from regulatory_hint_disconnect()
when COUNTRY_IE_IGNORE is set.
Note: Currently, restore_regulatory_settings() takes care of clearing
beacon hints. But in the proposed change, regulatory restore is avoided.
Therefore, explicitly clear beacon hints when DISABLE_BEACON_HINTS

Make wmm_rule be part of the reg_rule structure. This simplifies the
code a lot at the cost of having bigger memory usage. However in most
cases we have only few reg_rule's and when we do have many like in

each channel anyway.
This also fixes a bug reported in various places where somewhere the

The current implementation of cfg80211_rx_control_port assumed that the
caller could provide a contiguous region of memory for the control port
frame to be sent up to userspace. Unfortunately, many drivers produce
non-linear skbs, especially for data frames. This resulted in userspace
getting notified of control port frames with correct metadata (from
address, port, etc) yet garbage / nonsense contents, resulting in bad
handshakes, disconnections, etc.
mac80211 linearizes skbs containing management frames. But it didn't
seem worthwhile to do this for control port frames. Thus the signature
of cfg80211_rx_control_port was changed to take the skb directly.
nl80211 then takes care of obtaining control port frame data directly
from the (linear | non-linear) skb.
The caller is still responsible for freeing the skb,
cfg80211_rx_control_port does not take ownership of it.

The BIT macro uses unsigned long which some architectures handle as 32 bit
and therefore might cause macro's shift to overflow when used on a value
equals or larger than 32 (NL80211_STA_INFO_RX_DURATION and afterwards).
Since 'filled' member in station_info changed to u64, BIT_ULL macro
should be used with all NL80211_STA_INFO_* attribute types instead of BIT
to prevent future possible bugs when one will use BIT macro for higher
attributes by mistake.
This commit cleans up all usages of BIT macro with the above field
in cfg80211 by changing it to BIT_ULL instead. In addition, there are
some places which don't use BIT nor BIT_ULL macros so align those as well.

The cfg80211 layer uses get_seconds() to read the current time
in its supend handling. This function is deprecated because of the 32-bit
time_t overflow, and it can cause unexpected behavior when the time
changes due to settimeofday() calls or leap second updates.
In many cases, we want to use monotonic time instead, however cfg80211
explicitly tracks the time spent in suspend, so this changes the
driver over to use ktime_get_boottime_seconds(), which is slightly
slower, but not used in a fastpath here.

Commit 9757235f45, "nl80211: correct checks for
NL80211_MESHCONF_HT_OPMODE value") relaxed the range for the HT
operation field in meshconf, while also adding checks requiring
the non-greenfield and non-ht-sta bits to be set in certain
circumstances. The latter bit is actually reserved for mesh BSSes
according to Table 9-168 in 802.11-2016, so in fact it should not
be set.
wpa_supplicant sets these bits because the mesh and AP code share
the same implementation, but authsae does not. As a result, some
meshconf updates from authsae which set only the NONHT_MIXED
protection bits were being rejected.
In order to avoid breaking userspace by changing the rules again,
simply accept the values with or without the bits set, and mask
off the reserved bit to match the spec.
While in here, update the 802.11-2012 reference to 802.11-2016.

Most of the implementations behind cfg80211_get_station will not initialize
sinfo to zero before manipulating it. For example, the member "filled",
which indicates the filled in parts of this struct, is often only modified
by enabling certain bits in the bitfield while keeping the remaining bits
in their original state. A caller without a preinitialized sinfo.filled can
then no longer decide which parts of sinfo were filled in by
cfg80211_get_station (or actually the underlying implementations).
cfg80211_get_station must therefore take care that sinfo is initialized to
zero. Otherwise, the caller may tries to read information which was not
filled in and which must therefore also be considered uninitialized. In
batadv_v_elp_get_throughput's case, an invalid "random" expected throughput
may be stored for this neighbor and thus the B.A.T.M.A.N V algorithm may
switch to non-optimal neighbors for certain destinations.

Main use case is to measure the signal strength of a connected station
to AP. Data packet transmit rates and bandwidth used by station can vary
a lot even if the station is at fixed location, especially if the rates
used are multi stream(2stream, 3stream) rates with different bandwidth(20/40/80 Mhz).
These multi stream rates are sensitive and station can use different transmit power
for each of the rate and bandwidth combinations. RSSI measured from these RX packets
on AP will be not stable and can vary a lot with in a short time.
Whereas 802.11 ack frames from station are sent relatively at a constant
rate (6/12/24 Mbps) with constant bandwidth(20 Mhz).
So average rssi of the ack packets is good and more accurate.

Currently the regulatory core does not call the regulatory callback
reg_notifier for self managed wiphys, but regulatory_hint_user() call is
independent of wiphy and is meant for all wiphys in the system. Even a
self managed wiphy may be interested in regulatory_hint_user() to know
the country code from a trusted regulatory domain change like a cellular
base station. Therefore, for the regulatory source
NL80211_REGDOM_SET_BY_USER and the user hint type
NL80211_USER_REG_HINT_CELL_BASE, call the regulatory notifier.
No current wlan driver uses the REGULATORY_WIPHY_SELF_MANAGED flag while
also registering the reg_notifier regulatory callback, therefore there
will be no impact on existing drivers without them being explicitly

pull-request: bpf-next 2018-03-31
The following pull-request contains BPF updates for your *net-next* tree.
The main changes are:
1) Add raw BPF tracepoint API in order to have a BPF program type that
can access kernel internal arguments of the tracepoints in their
raw form similar to kprobes based BPF programs. This infrastructure
also adds a new BPF_RAW_TRACEPOINT_OPEN command to BPF syscall which
returns an anon-inode backed fd for the tracepoint object that allows
for automatic detach of the BPF program resp. unregistering of the
tracepoint probe on fd release, from Alexei.
2) Add new BPF cgroup hooks at bind() and connect() entry in order to
allow BPF programs to reject, inspect or modify user space passed
struct sockaddr, and as well a hook at post bind time once the port
has been allocated. They are used in FB's container management engine
for implementing policy, replacing fragile LD_PRELOAD wrapper
intercepting bind() and connect() calls that only works in limited
scenarios like glibc based apps but not for other runtimes in
containerized applications, from Andrey.
3) BPF_F_INGRESS flag support has been added to sockmap programs for
their redirect helper call bringing it in line with cls_bpf based
programs. Support is added for both variants of sockmap programs,
meaning for tx ULP hooks as well as recv skb hooks, from John.
4) Various improvements on BPF side for the nfp driver, besides others
this work adds BPF map update and delete helper call support from
the datapath, JITing of 32 and 64 bit XADD instructions as well as
offload support of bpf_get_prandom_u32() call. Initial implementation
of nfp packet cache has been tackled that optimizes memory access
(see merge commit for further details), from Jakub and Jiong.
5) Removal of struct bpf_verifier_env argument from the print_bpf_insn()
API has been done in order to prepare to use print_bpf_insn() soon
out of perf tool directly. This makes the print_bpf_insn() API more
generic and pushes the env into private data. bpftool is adjusted
as well with the print_bpf_insn() argument removal, from Jiri.
6) Couple of cleanups and prep work for the upcoming BTF (BPF Type
Format). The latter will reuse the current BPF verifier log as
well, thus bpf_verifier_log() is further generalized, from Martin.
7) For bpf_getsockopt() and bpf_setsockopt() helpers, IPv4 IP_TOS read
and write support has been added in similar fashion to existing
IPv6 IPV6_TCLASS socket option we already have, from Nikita.
8) Fixes in recent sockmap scatterlist API usage, which did not use
sg_init_table() for initialization thus triggering a BUG_ON() in
scatterlist API when CONFIG_DEBUG_SG was enabled. This adds and
uses a small helper sg_init_marker() to properly handle the affected
cases, from Prashant.
9) Let the BPF core follow IDR code convention and therefore use the
idr_preload() and idr_preload_end() helpers, which would also help
idr_alloc_cyclic() under GFP_ATOMIC to better succeed under memory
pressure, from Shaohua.
10) Last but not least, a spelling fix in an error message for the
BPF cookie UID helper under BPF sample code, from Colin.

We have a fair number of patches, but many of them are from the
first bullet here:
* EAPoL-over-nl80211 from Denis - this will let us fix
some long-standing issues with bridging, races with
encryption and more
* DFS offload support from the qtnfmac folks
* regulatory database changes for the new ETSI adaptivity
requirements
* various other fixes and small enhancements

This function iterates over net_namespace_list and flushes
the queue for every of them. What does this rtnl_lock()
protects?! Since we may add skbs to net::wext_nlevents
without rtnl_lock(), it does not protects us about queuers.
It guarantees, two threads can't flush the queue in parallel,
that can change the order, but since skb can be queued
in any order, it doesn't matter, how many threads do this
in parallel. In case of several threads, this will be even
faster.
So, we can remove rtnl_lock() here, as it was used for
iteration over net_namespace_list only.

rtnl_lock() is used everywhere, and contention is very high.
When someone wants to iterate over alive net namespaces,
he/she has no a possibility to do that without exclusive lock.
But the exclusive rtnl_lock() in such places is overkill,
and it just increases the contention. Yes, there is already
for_each_net_rcu() in kernel, but it requires rcu_read_lock(),
and this can't be sleepable. Also, sometimes it may be need
really prevent net_namespace_list growth, so for_each_net_rcu()
is not fit there.
This patch introduces new rw_semaphore, which will be used
instead of rtnl_mutex to protect net_namespace_list. It is
sleepable and allows not-exclusive iterations over net
namespaces list. It allows to stop using rtnl_lock()
in several places (what is made in next patches) and makes
less the time, we keep rtnl_mutex. Here we just add new lock,
while the explanation of we can remove rtnl_lock() there are
in next patches.
Fine grained locks generally are better, then one big lock,
so let's do that with net_namespace_list, while the situation
allows that.

This commit implements the TX side of NL80211_CMD_CONTROL_PORT_FRAME.
Userspace provides the raw EAPoL frame using NL80211_ATTR_FRAME.
Userspace should also provide the destination address and the protocol
type to use when sending the frame. This is used to implement TX of
Pre-authentication frames. If CONTROL_PORT_ETHERTYPE_NO_ENCRYPT is
specified, then the driver will be asked not to encrypt the outgoing
frame.
A new EXT_FEATURE flag is introduced so that nl80211 code can check
whether a given wiphy has capability to pass EAPoL frames over nl80211.

This commit also adds cfg80211_rx_control_port function. This is used
to generate a CMD_CONTROL_PORT_FRAME event out to userspace. The
conn_owner_nlportid is used as the unicast destination. This means that
userspace must specify NL80211_ATTR_SOCKET_OWNER flag if control port
over nl80211 routing is requested in NL80211_CMD_CONNECT,
NL80211_CMD_ASSOCIATE, NL80211_CMD_START_AP or IBSS/mesh join.

In general regulatory self managed devices maintain their own
regulatory profiles thus it doesn't have to query the regulatory database
on country change.
ETSI has recently introduced a new channel access mechanism for 5GHz
that all wlan devices need to comply with.
These values are stored in the regulatory database.
There are self managed devices which can't maintain these
values on their own. Add API to allow self managed regulatory devices
to query the regulatory database for high band wmm rule.

ETSI EN 301 893 v2.1.1 (2017-05) standard defines a new channel access
mechanism that all devices (WLAN and LAA) need to comply with.
The regulatory database can now be loaded into the kernel and also
has the option to load optional data.
In order to be able to comply with ETSI standard, we add wmm_rule into

Host drivers may offload the SAE authentication to user space

This interface allows the host driver to offload the authentication to
user space. This is exclusively defined for host drivers that do not
define separate commands for authentication and association, but rely on
userspace SME (e.g., in wpa_supplicant for the ~WPA_DRIVER_FLAGS_SME
case) for the authentication to happen. This can be used to implement
SAE without full implementation in the kernel/firmware while still being
able to use NL80211_CMD_CONNECT with driver-based BSS selection.
Host driver sends NL80211_CMD_EXTERNAL_AUTH event to start/abort
authentication to the port on which connect is triggered and status
of authentication is further indicated by user space to host
driver through the same command response interface.
User space entities advertise this capability through the
NL80211_ATTR_EXTERNAL_AUTH_SUPP flag in the NL80211_CMD_CONNECT request.
Host drivers shall look at this capability to offload the authentication.

same and the network stops working.

syzbot reported a warning from rfkill_alloc(), and after a while
I think that the reason is that it was doing fault injection and

When cfg80211 is built as a module, everything is fine, and we
can keep the code as is; in fact, we have to, because there can
only be a single module_init().
When cfg80211 is built-in, however, it needs to initialize
before drivers (device_initcall/module_init), and thus used to
be at subsys_initcall(). I'd moved it to fs_initcall() earlier,
where it can remain. However, this is still too early because at
that point the key infrastructure hasn't been initialized yet,
so X.509 certificates can't be parsed yet.
To work around this problem, load the regdb keys only later in
a late_initcall(), at which point the necessary infrastructure
has been initialized.

According to the description, first argument of genlmsg_nlhdr() points to
what genlmsg_put() returns, i.e. beginning of user header. Therefore we
should only subtract size of genetlink header and netlink message header,
not user header.
This also means we don't need to pass the pointer to genetlink family and
the same is true for genl_dump_check_consistent() which is the only caller
of genlmsg_nlhdr(). (Note that at the moment, these functions are only
used for families which do not have user header so that they are not
affected.)

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases,
confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights.
The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in
part, so they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot
checks in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect
the correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial
patch version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch
license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the
applied SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

License cleanup: add SPDX license identifier to uapi header files with a license
License cleanup: add SPDX license identifier to uapi header files with no license
License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license

Please do not apply this to mainline directly, instead please re-run the
coccinelle script shown below and apply its output.
For several reasons, it is desirable to use {READ,WRITE}_ONCE() in
preference to ACCESS_ONCE(), and new code is expected to use one of the
former. So far, there's been no reason to change most existing uses of
ACCESS_ONCE(), as these aren't harmful, and changing them results in
churn.
However, for some features, the read/write distinction is critical to

Check all of this better, first of all ensuring that we can't
try to connect to a different SSID while connected/ing; ensure
that prev_bssid is set for re-association attempts even in the
case of the driver supporting the connect() method, and don't
reset ssid_len in the failure cases.
While at it, also reset ssid_len while disconnecting unless we

Currently CRDA implements the signature checking, and the previous
commits added the ability to load the whole regulatory database
into the kernel.
However, we really can't lose the signature checking, so implement
it in the kernel by loading a detached signature (regulatory.db.p7s)
and check it against built-in keys.

Parsing and building C structures from a regdb is no longer needed
since the "firmware" file (regulatory.db) can be linked into the
kernel image to achieve the same effect.
Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com>
If the regulatory database is loaded, and then updated, it may
be necessary to reload it. Add an nl80211 command to do this.
Note that this just reloads the database, it doesn't re-apply
the rules from it immediately.
Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com>
As the current regulatory database is only about 4k big, and already
difficult to extend, we decided that overall it would be better to
get rid of the complications with CRDA and load the database into the
kernel directly, but in a new format that is extensible.
The new file format can be extended since it carries a length field
on all the structs that need to be extensible.
In order to be able to request firmware when the module initializes,
move cfg80211 from subsys_initcall() to the later fs_initcall(); the
firmware loader is at the same level but linked earlier, so it can
be called from there. Otherwise, when both the firmware loader and
cfg80211 are built-in, the request will crash the kernel. We also
need to be before device_initcall() so that cfg80211 is available
for devices when they initialize.

Define a policy for packet pattern attributes in order to fix a
potential read over the end of the buffer during nla_get_u32()
of the NL80211_PKTPAT_OFFSET attribute.
Note that the data there can always be read due to SKB allocation
(with alignment and struct skb_shared_info at the end), but the
data might be uninitialized. This could be used to leak some data
from uninitialized vmalloc() memory, but most drivers don't allow
an offset (so you'd just get -EINVAL if the data is non-zero) or
just allow it with a fixed value - 100 or 128 bytes, so anything
above that would get -EINVAL. With brcmfmac the limit is 1500 so
(at least) one byte could be obtained.

Add an event that indicates that a connection is authorized
(i.e. the 4 way handshake was performed by the driver). This event
should be sent by the driver after sending a connect/roamed event.
This is useful for networks that require 802.1X authentication.
In cases that the driver supports 4 way handshake offload, but the
802.1X authentication is managed by user space, the driver needs to
inform user space right after the 802.11 association was completed
so user space can initialize its 802.1X state machine etc.
However, it is also possible that the AP will choose to skip the
802.1X authentication (e.g. when PMKSA caching is used) and proceed
with the 4 way handshake immediately. In this case the driver needs
to inform user space that 802.1X authentication is no longer required
(e.g. to prevent user space from disconnecting since it did not get
any EAPOLs from the AP).
This is also useful for roaming, in which case it is possible that
the driver used the Fast Transition protocol so 802.1X is not
required.
Since there will now be a dedicated notification indicating that the
connection is authorized, the authorized flag can be removed from the
roamed event. Drivers can send the new port authorized event right
after sending the roamed event to indicate the new AP is already
authorized. This therefore reserves the old PORT_AUTHORIZED attribute.

nested in the attribute NL80211_ATTR_SCAN_FREQUENCIES with

without validating the size of data received. Attributes

If NAN interface is created with NL80211_ATTR_SOCKET_OWNER, the socket
that is used to create the interface is used for all NAN operations and
reporting NAN events.
However, it turns out that sending commands and receiving events on
the same socket is not possible in a completely race-free way:
If the socket buffer is overflowed by the events, the command response
will not be sent. In that case the caller will block forever on recv.
Using non-blocking socket for commands is more complicated and still
the command response or ack may not be received.
So, keep unicasting NAN events to the interface creator, but allow
using a different socket for commands.

It seems like a historic accident that these return unsigned char *,

Make these functions return void * and remove all the casts across
the tree, adding a (u8 *) cast only where the unsigned char pointer
was used directly, all done with the following spatch:

Unfortunately, struct iwreq isn't a proper subset of struct ifreq,
but is still handled by the same code path. Robert reported that
then applications may (randomly) fault if the struct iwreq they
pass happens to land within 8 bytes of the end of a mapping (the
struct is only 32 bytes, vs. struct ifreq's 40 bytes).
To fix this, pull out the code handling wireless extension ioctls
and copy only the smaller structure in this case.
This bug goes back a long time, I tracked that it was introduced
into mainline in 2.1.15, over 20 years ago!

Therefore, we can remove this call.

Drivers that initiate roaming while being connected to a network that
uses 802.1X authentication need to inform user space if 802.1X
authentication is further required after roaming.
For example, when using the Fast transition protocol, roaming within
the mobility domain does not require new 802.1X authentication, but
roaming to another mobility domain does.
In addition, some drivers may not support 802.1X authentication
(so it has to be done in user space), while other drivers do.
Add a flag to the roaming notification to indicate if user space is
required to do 802.1X authentication after the roaming or not.
This flag will only be used for networks that use 802.1X
authentication. For networks that do not use 802.1X authentication it
is assumed that no further action is required from user space after
the roaming notification.

Extend use of NL80211_ATTR_PMK attribute indicating it might be passed
as part of NL80211_CMD_CONNECT command, and contain the PSK (which is
the PMK, hence the name.)
The driver/device is assumed to handle the 4-way handshake by
itself in this case (including key derivations, etc.), instead
of relying on the supplicant.

In the case the channel should be switched to one requiring DFS we need
to make sure that userspace will handle radar events when they happen.
For AP mode this is assumed to be the case, as a manager like hostapd
is required. However IBSS and MESH modes can work without further
userspace assistance, so refuse to use DFS channels unless userspace
vouches that it handles DFS.
NOTE: Userspace should have already flagged support earlier during mesh
or IBSS setup. However, this information is not readily accessible

Mesh forwarding path checks for address extension mode to fetch
appropriate proxied address and MPP address. Existing condition
that looks for 6 address format is not strict enough so that
frames with improper values are processed and invalid entries
are added into MPP table. Fix that by adding a stricter check before
processing the packet.
Per IEEE Std 802.11s-2011 spec. Table 7-6g1 lists address extension
mode 0x3 as reserved one. And also Table Table 9-13 does not specify
0x3 as valid address field.

This patch implements the idea to have multiple scheduled scan requests
running concurrently. It mainly illustrates how to deal with the incoming
request from user-space in terms of backward compatibility. In order to
use multiple scheduled scans user-space needs to provide a flag attribute
NL80211_ATTR_SCHED_SCAN_MULTI to indicate support. If not the request is
treated as a legacy scan.
Drivers currently supporting scheduled scan are now indicating they support
a single scheduled scan request. This obsoletes WIPHY_FLAG_SUPPORTS_SCHED_SCAN.
