Takashi Iwai d2f344b5e0 ALSA: hda - Add "Mute-LED Mode" enum control
Create snd_hda_add_vmaster_hook() and snd_hda_sync_vmaster_hook()
helper functions to handle the mute-LED in vmaster hook more
commonly. In the former function, a new enum control "Mute-LED Mode"
is added. This provides user to choose whether the mute-LED should be
turned on/off explicitly or to follow the master-mute status.

Takashi Iwai 420b0febe5 ALSA: hda - Rewrite the mute-LED control with vmaster hook for ALC269
We've had ugly static handling of the mute-LED with a powersave hook
for ALC269 HP laptops just like done in patch_sigmatel.c. This is now
rewritten with the new vmaster hook and a fixup code.

For that, the new fixup action, ALC_FIXUP_ACT_BUILD, is introduced.
It's called after build_controls is called. The reason of this new
action is that vmaster hook must be added at this stage (not in init
or probe).

Takashi Iwai 070cff4cfd ALSA: hda/realtek - Small code cleanups
A few clean-ups for post-static-quirk time:
- Call alc_auto_init_std() statically in alc_init() instead of setting
spec->init_hook in each caller. spec->init_hook field is left
  unused for any future use.

- Move the call of set_capture_mixer() to to alc_parse_auto_config()
  instead of each caller.

- Get rid of the ADC-filling and imux check in each parser function.
This is no longer needed since the auto-parser always check ADCs and
imux. It was only for the static quirks.

- Kill unused defines

Takashi Iwai ef8d60fb79 ALSA: hda/realtek - Fix surround output regression on Acer Aspire 5935
The previous fix for the speaker on Acer Aspire 59135 introduced
another problem for surround outputs. It changed the connections on

4ch or 6ch mode.

This patch fixes it by restoring the right connections just after
parsing the tree but before the initialization.

Takashi Iwai 185d99f192 ALSA: hda/realtek - Try harder to fit the single-connections
So far, the Realtek driver tires to assign the single-connected routes
for all pins only once at the beginning. However, since some DACs have
been already mapped, the rest pins might have also single conections.

In this patch, the driver does the single-connection assignment in a
loop until all possbile single-connections are checked. This will
improve the DAC assignment, e.g. for ASUS G72.

Takashi Iwai 1c4a54b451 ALSA: hda/realtek - Finer tuning of auto-parser with badness evaluation
This patch improves the Realtek auto-parser for assigning the DACs and
mixers in more suitable ways by evaluating the assignment with "badness"
calculations.

When assigning a DAC hinders the assignment of individual DACs for
other pins, some badness point is given. Similarly, when it blocks the
assignment of unique mixer controls, another badness point is added.
Also, if no DAC, even shared DAC, can be assigned, more badness is
pointed. Finally, comparing the accumulated badness, the best route is
chosen among several trials.

Takashi Iwai 02a237b24d ALSA: hda - Fix silent speaker output on Acer Aspire 6935
Since 3.2 kernel, the driver starts trying to assign the multi-io DACs
before the speaker, thus it assigns DAC2/3 for multi-io and DAC4 for
the speaker for a standard laptop setup like a HP, a speaker, a mic-in
and a line-in. However, on Acer Aspire 6935, it seems that the
speaker pin 0x14 must be connected with either DAC1 or 2; otherwise it
results in silence by some reason, although the codec itself allows
the routing to DAC3/4.

As a workaround, the connection list of each pin is reduced to be
mapped to either only DAC1/2 or DAC3/4, so that the compatible
assignment as in kernel 3.1 is achieved.

Takashi Iwai 9322ca5497 ALSA: hda - Add suffix argument to snd_hda_add_vmaster()
In most cases, the slave strings for vmaster are identical between
volumes and switches except for "xxx Volume" and "xxx Switch" suffix.
Now snd_hda_add_vmaster() takes the optional suffix argument so that
each string can be composed with the given suffix, and we can share the

Takashi Iwai 31150f2327 ALSA: hda - Apply 0x0f-VREF fix to all ASUS laptops with ALC861/660
It turned out that other ASUS laptops require the similar fix to
enable the VREF on the pin 0x0f for the secret output amp, not only
ASUS A6Rp. Moreover, it's required even when the pin is being used
as the output. Thus, writing a fixed value doesn't work always.

This patch applies the VREF-fix for all ASUS laptops with ALC861/660
in a fixup function that checks the current value and turns on only
the VREF value no matter whether input or output direction is set.

The automute function is modified as well to keep the pin VREF upon
muting/unmuting via pin-control; otherwise the pin VREF is reset at
plugging/unplugging a jack.

Takashi Iwai f21d78e269 ALSA: hda/realtek - Avoid conflict of unsol-events with static quirks
The recently added jack-kctl support sets the unsol event tags
dynamically, while static quirks usually set the fixed tags in the
init_verbs array. Due to this conflict, the own unsol event handler
can't retrieve the tag and handle it properly any more.

For fixing this, avoid calling snd_hda_jack_add_kctls() for static
quirks, and always let them use own handlers instead of the standard
one for the auto-pareser.

Takashi Iwai 0a34b42b62 ALSA: hda/realtek - Fix lost speaker volume controls
When there are the same or more number of HP pins are available, HP pins
are used as the primary outputs instead of the speaker pins. But, in
some cases (especially with ALC663 & co), some DACs are available only
with a later pin and it's assigned to a speaker, and since the driver
parses the pins from the lower NID, such a DAC was skipped eventually
without assignments. This resulted in a regression, the missing speaker
volume control in the new parser.

As a workaround for this, now the driver retries the pin->DAC mapping
again after restoring the speaker-pins as primary. This is still an ad
hoc fix, but it works so far for most of Realtek codecs.

Takashi Iwai 1835a0f9a2 ALSA: hda - Cache the jack-detection value
Introduce a table containing the pins and their jack-detection states
for avoiding the unnecessary verbs to check the pin status at each time.

When the unsol event is enabled via snd_hda_jack_detect_enable(), it
automatically adds the given NID to the table. Then the driver supposes
that the codec driver will set the dirty flag appropariately when an
unsolicited event is invoked for that pin.

The behavior for reading other pins that aren't registered in the table
doesn't change. Only the pins assigned to the table are cached, so far.

In near futre, this table can be extended to use the central place for
the unsolicited events of all pins, etc, and eventually include the
jack-detect kcontrols that replace the current input-jack stuff.

Takashi Iwai 43dea228a3 ALSA: hda - Fix silent output regression with ALC861
The 3.1 kernel has a regression for ALC861 codec where no sound output
is heard with the default setup. It's because the amps in DACs aren't

This patch fixes the missing initialization of DACs when no mixer is

Takashi Iwai 1fa1757366 ALSA: hda/realtek - Don't create alt-stream for capture when unnecessary
When the driver finds multiple ADCs, it tries to create an alternative
capture PCM stream. However, these secondary ADCs might be useless or
in uncontrolled paths in some cases, e.g. when auto-mic or dynamic
ADC-switching is enabled. Also, when only a single capture source is
available, the multi-streams don't make sense, too.

With this patch, the driver checks such condition and skips the alt

ALC260 has multiple mixer widgets connected to the shared DAC, but the

This patch adds the workaround for it by checking the route even with the

Takashi Iwai e0d32e335f ALSA: hda/realtek - Don't detect LO jack when identical with HP
The spec->autocfg.line_out_pins[] may contain the same pins as hp_pins[]
depending on the configuration. When they are identical, detecting the
line_jack_present flag screws up the auto-mute because alc_line_automute()
is called unconditionally at initialization while it won't be triggered
by unsol events, thus the old line_jack_present flag is kept for the
whole run.

For fixing this buggy behavior, the driver needs to check whether the
line-outs are really individual, and skip if same as headphone jacks.

a new Kconfig, CONFIG_SND_HDA_ENABLE_REALTEK_QUIRKS is introduced.
By setting this off, all quirk codes won't be built, thus you can save
lots of memory.

The codes in patch_realtek.c are also shuffled and more comments are
given, but the contents aren't changed. This is just a refactoring.

Takashi Iwai 21268961d3 ALSA: hda - More flexible dynamic-ADC switching for Realtek codecs
This patch changes the auto-parser and the auto-mic handling codes to
allow more flexible dynamic ADC-switching with Realtek codecs.

In the new code, the following strategy is taken:

- When a cap-src can't handle all input-sources, either skip it, or
switch to the ADC-switching mode. In ADC-switching mode, like the
former dual-ADC mode for ALC275, it changes ADC on the fly according
  to the current input source.
- When auto-mic is possible, always assign imux. If the mic pins are
set statically via a quirk, rebuild imux according to the pins.
In the auto-mic mode, the driver always changes the imux (although
the imux isn't exposed as a mixer element).

The SPDIF output controls apply to converter widgets. A future change
will create a PCM device per pin widget, and hence a set of SPDIF output
controls per pin widget, for certain HDMI codecs. To support this, we
need the ability to virtualize the SPDIF output controls. Specifically:

* Controls can be "unassigned" from real hardware when a converter is
not used for the PCM the control was created for.
* Control puts only write to hardware when they are assigned.
* Controls can be "assigned" to real hardware when a converter is picked

line-out jacks per the headphone plug / unplug. For achieving this
and keeping the compatibility with the old behavior, the new mixer
enum "Auto-Mute Mode" is added. With this, user can control the
auto-mute behavior either disabled, speaker-only or lineout+speaker.

in audio: playback was inaudible through both speakers and headphones.
In commit 272a527c04 of sound-2.6.git, a new model was added with this

When SKU assid gives no valid bits for 0x38, the driver didn't take

Especially users hit this problem on ALC888 newly since 2.6.35,

This patch sets the default initialization scheme to use

Takashi Iwai f0cea79724 ALSA: hda - Fix dynamic ADC change working again
The commit eb541337b7

changes the semantics of snd_hda_codec_cleanup_stream() not to clean up
the stream at that moment but delay the action. This broke the codes
expecting that the clean-up is done immediately, such as dynamic ADC
changes in some codec drivers.

This patch fixes the issue by introducing a lower helper,
__snd_hda_codec_cleanup_stream(), to allow the immediate clean up.
The original snd_hda_codec_cleanup_stream() is kept as is now.

Justin P. Mattock b7cccc52fe ALSA: hda - iMac9,1 sound fixes
First issue:
With the original patch, I've noticed by unmuting the mic
(and even having it muted), there is a distorted("Noise")
coming from the internal speakers, even when the headphones are plugged in.
What my finding's revealed is:

/* Mic (rear) pin: input vref at 80% */
	{0x18, AC_VERB_SET_PIN_WIDGET_CONTROL, PIN_VREF80},
	{0x18, AC_VERB_SET_AMP_GAIN_MUTE, AMP_OUT_MUTE},

From the original patch. Looking at codec#0 0x18/0x1a is listed as:

Node 0x18 [Pin Complex] wcaps 0x40018f: Stereo Amp-In Amp-Out
  Amp-In caps: ofs=0x00, nsteps=0x03, stepsize=0x27, mute=0

seems this Node is listed as: [Fixed] Speaker while 0x15

Node 0x15 [Pin Complex] wcaps 0x40018f: Stereo Amp-In Amp-Out
  Amp-In caps: ofs=0x00, nsteps=0x03, stepsize=0x27, mute=0

is [Jack] Line In at Ext Rear.
(looking at the other apple products as examples
I came up with the fix below).

Second issue:
alc885_mbp_4ch_modes
The original patch does a good job with the
HP pin automute function, but from what I noticed is I would have to manually
change the channel form 2 to 4 after plugging the headphones in.
And not to mention having odd moments to where I was jamming out
with the headphones on, then later realized I had sound blasting out
of the speakers as well. My findings revealed that changing
alc885_mbp_4ch_modes to alc885_mba21_ch_modes and setting
-	spec->autocfg.speaker_pins[0] = 0x15;
+	spec->autocfg.speaker_pins[0] = 0x18;
gets the automute function when the headphones plugged in working
flawlessly(and the no need to manually change the channel number
afterwards).

Third issue:
alc885_imac91_mixer
There probably doesnt need to be anything changed with this
(esspecially if your one to like lots of sliders),but my findings
revealed that mac osx only has a master on the top right,
another switch on itunes, and then a slider for the mic.

So the changes I did below try and mimic osx as much as possible
(only thing I had an issue with is just having one mute switch
on the master, instead of having two(still investigating)).

fourth issue:
alc882_capture_source
I endeded up creating alc889A_imac91_capture_source()
only because looking at alc882_capture_source I see
that the mic is set to 0x1 while this works, I also noticed
that adding 0x1 and 0x01 and testing that 0x1 somehow
stops working, and 0x01 works(so I figured 0x01 was more
of the alpha of the numbers(still need to figure out
where that valuse is)). In any case the microphone
does work with the original, and with the below patch, but both
still record not as clean(lots of "Noise", which I would like to
look into too).
Note: using alsamixer -Va reveals the capture switches.

Takashi Iwai 6694635d3a ALSA: hda - Fix ADC/MUX assignment of ALC269 codec
ALC269 codec has a few different variants, and each of them may have
different ADC and MUX widgets. For example, one model has ADC 0x08
with MUX 0x23 while others has ADC 0x09 or ADC 0x07 with MUX 022 or
0x24. The difference of ADC appears usually as the capability of
the digital mic pin (0x12), and the current driver sometimes misses
the internal mic pin due to the mismatching ADC.

This patch adds a bit more clever way to find the matching ADC instead
of the static list. Now the driver checks all active input pins and
fills only the ADC/MUX's that contain all of them.
