Ville Syrjälä 3bb403bf42 drm: Stop using linedur_ns and pixeldur_ns for vblank timestamps
linedur_ns, and especially pixeldur_ns are becoming rather inaccurate
to be used for the vblank timestamp correction. With 4k@60 the pixel
duration is already below 2ns, so the amount of error due to the
truncation to nanoseconds is introducing quite a bit of error.

We can avoid such problems if we instead calculate the timestamp
delta_ns directly from the dislay timings, avoiding the use of
these intermediate truncated values.

    drm: Check locking in drm_for_each_connector

I added locking checks to drm_for_each_connector but failed that
through drm_helper_connector_dpms -> drm_helper_choose_encoder_dpms
it's used in a few more places in the radeon resume/suspend code.

Fix them up.

Note that we could use the connector iterator macros in there too, but
that's for the future.

When we get an i2c defer or short ack for i2c-over-aux write we need
to switch to WRITE_STATUS_UPDATE to poll for the completion of the

Looks like radeon doesn't do anything special with the request type,
so hopefully just treating it the same as a i2c write is enough.

Stephen Chandler Paul 924f92bf12 DRM - radeon: Don't link train DisplayPort on HPD until we get the dpcd
Most of the time this isn't an issue since hotplugging an adaptor will
trigger a crtc mode change which in turn, causes the driver to probe
every DisplayPort for a dpcd. However, in cases where hotplugging
doesn't cause a mode change (specifically when one unplugs a monitor
from a DisplayPort connector, then plugs that same monitor back in
seconds later on the same port without any other monitors connected), we
never probe for the dpcd before starting the initial link training. What
happens from there looks like this:

	- GPU has only one monitor connected. It's connected via
	  DisplayPort, and does not go through an adaptor of any sort.

	- User unplugs DisplayPort connector from GPU.

	- Change in HPD is detected by the driver, we probe every
	  DisplayPort for a possible connection.

	- Probe the port the user originally had the monitor connected
	  on for it's dpcd. This fails, and we clear the first (and only
	  the first) byte of the dpcd to indicate we no longer have a
	  dpcd for this port.

	- User plugs the previously disconnected monitor back into the
	  same DisplayPort.

	- radeon_connector_hotplug() is called before everyone else,
	  and tries to handle the link training. Since only the first
	  byte of the dpcd is zeroed, the driver is able to complete
	  link training but does so against the wrong dpcd, causing it
	  to initialize the link with the wrong settings.

	- Display stays blank (usually), dpcd is probed after the
	  initial link training, and the driver prints no obvious
	  messages to the log.

In theory, since only one byte of the dpcd is chopped off (specifically,
the byte that contains the revision information for DisplayPort), it's
not entirely impossible that this bug may not show on certain monitors.
For instance, the only reason this bug was visible on my ASUS PB238
monitor was due to the fact that this monitor using the enhanced framing
symbol sequence, the flag for which is ignored if the radeon driver
thinks that the DisplayPort version is below 1.1.

We already grab 2 device-global locks (write-sema rdev->pm.mclk_lock

code more. And since there's really nothing interesting that gets
protected in radeon by dev->struct mutex (we only have the global z

core - which is irrelevant since radeon uses ttm anyway internally)
this doesn't add protection. Remove it.

Mario Kleiner 07f18f0bb8 drm/radeon: Handle irqs only based on irq ring, not irq status regs.
Trying to resolve issues with missed vblanks and impossible
values inside delivered kms pageflip completion events showed
that radeon's irq handling sometimes doesn't handle valid irqs,
but silently skips them. This was observed for vblank interrupts.

Although those irqs have corresponding events queued in the gpu's
irq ring at time of interrupt, and therefore the corresponding
handling code gets triggered by these events, the handling code
sometimes silently skipped processing the irq. The reason for those
skips is that the handling code double-checks for each irq event if
the corresponding irq status bits in the irq status registers
are set. Sometimes those bits are not set at time of check
for valid irqs, maybe due to some hardware race on some setups?

The problem only seems to happen on some machine + card combos
sometimes, e.g., never happened during my testing of different PC
cards of the DCE-2/3/4 generation a year ago, but happens consistently
now on two different Apple Mac cards (RV730, DCE-3, Apple iMac and
Evergreen JUNIPER, DCE-4 in a Apple MacPro). It also doesn't happen
at each interrupt but only occassionally every couple of
hundred or thousand vblank interrupts.

This results in XOrg warning messages like

"[  7084.472] (WW) RADEON(0): radeon_dri2_flip_event_handler:
Pageflip completion event has impossible msc 420120 < target_msc 420121"

as well as skipped frames and problems for applications that
use kms pageflip events or vblank events, e.g., users of DRI2 and
DRI3/Present, Waylands Weston compositor, etc. See also

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85203

After some talking to Alex and Michel, we decided to fix this
by turning the double-check for asserted irq status bits into a
warning. Whenever a irq event is queued in the IH ring, always
execute the corresponding interrupt handler. Still check the irq
status bits, but only to log a DRM_DEBUG message on a mismatch.

This fixed the problems reliably on both previously failing
cards, RV-730 dual-head tested on both crtcs (pipes D1 and D2)
and a triple-output Juniper HD-5770 card tested on all three
available crtcs (D1/D2/D3). The r600 and evergreen irq handling
is therefore tested, but the cik an si handling is only compile
tested due to lack of hw.

thoroughly the compute ring. Hibernation is different from suspend

fully initialize by regular kernel then freeze callback happens
(which correspond to a suspend inside the radeon kernel driver)
and turn off each of the block. It turns out we were not cleanly
shutting down the compute ring. This patch fix that.

- Check if a specific VMID has a valid PASID mapping
- Retrieve the PASID which is mapped to a specific VMID
- Issue a VMID invalidation request to the ATC

Denys Vlasenko 9e5acbc213 radeon: Deinline indirect register accessor functions
This patch deinlines indirect register accessor functions.

These functions perform two mmio accesses, framed by spin lock/unlock.
Spin lock/unlock by itself takes more than 50 cycles in ideal case
(if lock is exclusively cached on current CPU).

With this .config: http://busybox.net/~vda/kernel_config,
after uninlining these functions have sizes and callsite counts
as follows:

r600_uvd_ctx_rreg: 111 bytes, 4 callsites
r600_uvd_ctx_wreg: 113 bytes, 5 callsites
eg_pif_phy0_rreg: 106 bytes, 13 callsites
eg_pif_phy0_wreg: 108 bytes, 13 callsites
eg_pif_phy1_rreg: 107 bytes, 13 callsites
eg_pif_phy1_wreg: 108 bytes, 13 callsites
rv370_pcie_rreg: 111 bytes, 21 callsites
rv370_pcie_wreg: 113 bytes, 24 callsites
r600_rcu_rreg: 111 bytes, 16 callsites

cik_didt_rreg: 106 bytes, 10 callsites
cik_didt_wreg: 107 bytes, 10 callsites

tn_smc_wreg: 107 bytes, 116 callsites
eg_cg_rreg: 107 bytes, 20 callsites
eg_cg_wreg: 108 bytes, 52 callsites

Functions r100_mm_rreg() and r100_mm_rreg() have a fast path and
a locked (slow) path. This patch deinlines only slow path.

r100_mm_rreg_slow: 78 bytes, 2083 callsites
r100_mm_wreg_slow: 81 bytes, 3570 callsites

Reduction in code size is more than 65,000 bytes:

Linus Torvalds eeee78cf77 Some clean ups and small fixes, but the biggest change is the addition
of the TRACE_DEFINE_ENUM() macro that can be used by tracepoints.

 Tracepoints have helper functions for the TP_printk() called
 __print_symbolic() and __print_flags() that lets a numeric number be
 displayed as a a human comprehensible text. What is placed in the
 TP_printk() is also shown in the tracepoint format file such that
 user space tools like perf and trace-cmd can parse the binary data
 and express the values too. Unfortunately, the way the TRACE_EVENT()
 macro works, anything placed in the TP_printk() will be shown pretty
 much exactly as is. The problem arises when enums are used. That's
 because unlike macros, enums will not be changed into their values
 by the C pre-processor. Thus, the enum string is exported to the
 format file, and this makes it useless for user space tools.

 The TRACE_DEFINE_ENUM() solves this by converting the enum strings
 in the TP_printk() format into their number, and that is what is
 shown to user space. For example, the tracepoint tlb_flush currently
 has this in its format file:

      __print_symbolic(REC->reason,
         { TLB_FLUSH_ON_TASK_SWITCH, "flush on task switch" },
         { TLB_REMOTE_SHOOTDOWN, "remote shootdown" },
         { TLB_LOCAL_SHOOTDOWN, "local shootdown" },
         { TLB_LOCAL_MM_SHOOTDOWN, "local mm shootdown" })

 After adding:

      TRACE_DEFINE_ENUM(TLB_FLUSH_ON_TASK_SWITCH);
      TRACE_DEFINE_ENUM(TLB_REMOTE_SHOOTDOWN);
      TRACE_DEFINE_ENUM(TLB_LOCAL_SHOOTDOWN);
      TRACE_DEFINE_ENUM(TLB_LOCAL_MM_SHOOTDOWN);

 Its format file will contain this:

      __print_symbolic(REC->reason,
         { 0, "flush on task switch" },
         { 1, "remote shootdown" },
         { 2, "local shootdown" },
         { 3, "local mm shootdown" })

Steven Rostedt 77cb2fea1e tracing/drm: Remove unused TRACE_SYSTEM_STRING define
The tracing infrastructure is adding a macro TRACE_SYSTEM_STRING, and
hit the following build failure:

   In file included from include/trace/define_trace.h:90:0,
                    from drivers/gpu/drm/.//radeon/radeon_trace.h:209,

>> include/trace/ftrace.h:28:0: warning: "TRACE_SYSTEM_STRING" redefined
    #define TRACE_SYSTEM_STRING __app(TRACE_SYSTEM_VAR,__trace_system_name)

Seems that the DRM folks have added their own use to the
TRACE_SYSTEM_STRING, with:

 #define TRACE_SYSTEM_STRING __stringify(TRACE_SYSTEM)

Although, I can not find its use anywhere. I could simply use another
name, but if this macro is not being used, it should be removed.

Dave Airlie 875711f0e2 drm/radeon: program auxch directly (v2)
The atombios tables have an unfortunate restriction on only
being able to write 12 bytes, MST really wants 16-bytes here,
and since the hw can do it, we should just write directly to it.

This uses a module option to allow for it now, and maybe
we should provide the old code as a fallback for a while.

v2: (agd5f)
- move registers to a proper register header
- only enable on DCE5+
- enable by default on DCE5+
- Switch pad to aux mode before using it
- reformat instance handling to better match the
  rest of the driver

Alex Deucher a239118a24 drm/radeon: drop ttm two ended allocation
radeon_bo_create() calls radeon_ttm_placement_from_domain()
before ttm_bo_init() is called.  radeon_ttm_placement_from_domain()
uses the ttm bo size to determine when to select top down
allocation but since the ttm bo is not initialized yet the
check is always false. It only took effect when buffers
were validated later. It also seemed to regress suspend
and resume on some systems possibly due to it not
taking effect in radeon_bo_create().

radeon_bo_create() and radeon_ttm_placement_from_domain()
need to be reworked substantially for this to be optimally
effective. Re-enable it at that point.

Alex Deucher b20932dd62 drm/radeon/audio: update EDID derived fields in modeset
We don't necessarily have an EDID at this point when
audio detect gets called. Ideally we'd update these
fields in detect, but that requires a larger rework
of the display detect code.

Don't touch the audio enable bits as these are already
handled in display detection. Enable the hdmi secondary

Alex Deucher 94a47c49fe drm/radeon: fix atom aux payload size check for writes (v2)
The atom aux param interface only supports 4 bits for
the total write transfer size (header + payload). This
limits us to 12 bytes of payload rather than 16. Add a
check for this. Reads are not affected.
