Here's the bit staging tree pull request for 3.12-rc1.
Lots of staging driver updates, and fixes. Lustre is finally enabled in
the build, and lots of cleanup started happening in it. There's a new
wireless driver in here, and 2 new TTY drivers, which cause the overall
lines added/removed to be quite large on the "added" side.
The IIO driver updates are also coming through here, as they are tied to
the staging iio drivers.

The GPADC is general purpose ADC found on TWL6030, and TWL6032 PMIC,
known also as Phoenix and PhoenixLite.
The TWL6030 and TWL6032 have GPADC with 17 and 19 channels
respectively. Some channels have current source and are used for
measuring voltage drop on resistive load for detecting battery ID
resistance, or measuring voltage drop on NTC resistors for external
temperature measurements. Some channels measure voltage, (i.e. battery
voltage), and have voltage dividers, thus, capable to scale voltage.
Some channels are dedicated for measuring die temperature.
Some channels are calibrated in 2 points, having offsets from ideal
values kept in trim registers. This is used to correct measurements.
The differences between GPADC in TWL6030 and TWL6032:
- 10 bit vs 12 bit ADC;
- 17 vs 19 channels;
- channels have different purpose(i.e. battery voltage
channel 8 vs channel 18);
- trim values are interpreted differently.

IIO, like the rest of the kernel, should rely on dynamic debugging, not
have a special config option for it. That way, no user has to rebuild
their kernel to have debug messages, which is a good thing, let's not
revert back to the bad old days of the 2000's.

When using more than one trigger consumer it can happen that multiple threads
perform a read-modify-update cycle on 'use_count' concurrently. This can cause
updates to be lost and use_count can get stuck at non-zero value, in which case
the IIO core assumes that at least one thread is still running and will wait for
it to finish before running any trigger handlers again. This effectively renders
the trigger disabled and a reboot is necessary before it can be used again. To
fix this make use_count an atomic variable. Also set it to the number of
consumers before starting the first consumer, otherwise it might happen that
use_count drops to 0 even though not all consumers have been run yet.

This patch fixes improper in_pressure_scale output that is
returned by the lps331ap barometer sensor driver. According
to the documentation the pressure after applying the scale has to
be expressed in kilopascal units. With erroneous implementation
the scale value larger by two orders of magnitude is returned -
2441410 instead of 24414.

The TSC part allows to specify the input lines. The IIO part assumes
that it usues always the last few, that means if IIO has adc-channels
set to 2 it will use channel 6 and 7. However it might make sense to use
only 6.
This patch changes the device property (which was introduced recently
and was never in an official release) in a way that the user can specify
which of the AIN lines should be used. In Addition to this, the name is
now AINx where x is the channel number i.e. for AIN6 we would have 6.
Prior this, it always started counting at 0 which is confusing. In
addition to this, it also checks for correct step number during reading
and does not rely on proper FIFO depth.

The driver programs a threshold of "coordinate_readouts" say 5. The
REG_FIFO0THR registers says it should it be programmed to "threshold
minus one". The driver does not expect just 5 coordinates but 5 * 2 + 2.
Multiplied by two because 5 for X and 5 for Y and plus 2 because we have
two Z.
The whole thing kind of works because It reads the 5 coordinates for X
and Y from FIFO0 and FIFO1 and the last element in each FIFO is ignored
within the loop and read later.
Nothing guaranties that FIFO1 is ready by the time it is read. In fact I
could see that that FIFO1 reaturns for Y channels 8,9, 10, 12, 6 and for
Y channel 7 for Z. The problem is that channel 7 and channel 12 got
somehow mixed up.
The other Problem is that FIFO1 is also used by the IIO part leading to
wrong results if both (tsc & adc) are used.
The patch tries to clean up the whole thing a little:
- Remove the +1 and -1 in REG_STEPCONFIG, REG_STEPDELAY and its counter
part in the for loop. This is just confusing.
- Use only FIFO0 in TSC. The fifo has space for 64 entries so should be
fine.
- Read the whole FIFO in one function and check the channel.
- in case we dawdle around, make sure we only read a multiple of our
coordinate set. On the second interrupt we will cleanup the remaining
enties.

The mfd driver creates platform data for the child devices and it is the
ti_tscadc_dev struct. This struct is copied for the two devices.
The copy of the structure makes a common lock in this structure a little
less usefull. Therefore the platform data is not a pointer to the
structure and the same structure is used.

the wrong pointer for ti_tscadc_dev and this has been fixed as well.

5) For iio use the device tree node name to provide the hwmon name attribute
if available.
Removal and moves out of staging
1) Drop the adt7410 driver from IIO now that there is a hmwon driver with
equivalent support. This device is very much targeted at hardware
monitoring so hwmon is a more appropriate host for the driver.
2) Move iio_hwmon driver to drivers/hwmon.
Cleanups
1) Minor cleanup in ST common library.
2) Large set of patches to break the info_mask element which previously used
odd and even bits to specify if a channel attribute was either shared across
similar channels or specific to only one. Now we have two bitmaps, one for
those parameters that are specific to this channel and one for those shared
by all channels with the same type as this one. This has no effect on the
userspace abi. It simplifies the core code and provides more space for new
channel parameters. It has been on the todo list for a long time!

within an interrupt handler. Users of this functionality to follow.
It has been on the todo list for a long time!

drivers/iio/dac/ad5064.c
Without this change the exynos adc controller needed to have its phy
enabled in some out-of-driver C code. Add support for specifying the
phy enable register by listing it in the reg list.

The driver already claims to support scale reporting in its channel spec, but
doesn't actually implement this yet. This patch uses the regulator API to get
the reference voltage and calculates the scale based on that. The patch also
moves the global configuration bits into a field in the ad7923_state struct,
since depending on the RANGE bit, the range goes either from 0 to VREF or from 0
to 2 * VREF. So we need to know the setting of the RANGE bit when calculating
the scale.

Currently it is not save to call iio_push_event() from hard IRQ context since
the IIO event code uses spin_lock()/spin_unlock() and it is not save to mix
calls to spin_lock()/spin_unlock() from different contexts on the same lock.
E.g. if the lock is being held in iio_event_chrdev_read() and an interrupts
kicks in and the interrupt handler calls iio_push_event() we end uo with a
deadlock.
This patch updates iio_push_event() to use spin_lock_irqsave()/
spin_unlock_irqstrestore(), since it can be called from both IRQ and non-IRQ
context. All other other users of the lock, which are always run in non-IRQ
context, are updated to spin_lock_irq()/spin_unlock_irq().

Any merging in of the lis3 driver will rely on the not currently

The full device tree syntax is currently under discussion but should

For chips with more than 8 bit ADC resolution, received data was always
masked against 0xfff, ie with a 12 bit mask. This can result in bad data
for chips with 10 bit resolution if those chips have higher bits set
(seen with MAX1139).
The receive buffer was defined as char array. This could result in
unintentional sign extensions if the upper bit in a received byte
was set. Since the chip is configured for unipolar mode, we never
have to handle negative values, and sign extensions are never needed.

__iio_update_buffer updates the buffer's bytes_per_datum and length fields.
But the only user of this function just passes in these exact fields, so the
call basically looks like this:
buffer->bytes_per_datum = buffer->bytes_per_datum;
buffer->length = buffer->length;
Which means it is a noop and can be removed. Also remove the function itself,
since it is now unused.

The adis16400 and similar have two different base sampling rate available, from
which the actual sampling rate is derived. 1638 Hz and 52.85 Hz, switching to
the lower base sampling rate allows to support lower sampling rates.
This patch adds support for switching to the lower base sampling rate if the
requested sampling frequency is outside of the range which can be supported by
the higher base sampling rate.

for the lower sampling rate, so no changes are required there.

Smatch complains that snprintf() returns the number of characters,
not counting the NUL terminator, which *would* have been printed if
there were enough space. In other words the return value could be more
than sizeof(buf).
In this case, we are printing something like "ff.ff\n" which is at most
6 characters and a NUL so that's not an issue. I changed snprintf() to
scnprintf() to silence the warning.
But since the buffer doesn't include space for the NUL terminator, we
need to make it bigger or the "\n" will be truncated off.

Some of the newer generation devices from the ADIS16XXX series have more
registers than what can be supported with the current register addressing
scheme. These devices implement register paging to support a larger register
range. Each page is 128 registers large and the currently active page can be
selected via register 0x00 in each page. This patch implements transparent
paging inside the common adis library. The register read/write interface stays
the same and when a register is accessed the library automatically switches to
the correct page if it is not already selected. The page number is encoded in
the upper bits of the register number, e.g. register 0x5 of page 1 is 0x85.

When parsing a fixed point number IIO stops parsing the string once it has
reached the last requested decimal place. This means that the remainder of the
string is silently accepted regardless, of whether it is part of a valid number
or not. This patch modifies the code to scan the whole string and only accept
valid numbers. Since fract_mult is 0 after the last decimal place any digit that
may follows won't affect the result.

In this case we can use a shift operation instead of the rather expensive 64 bit

be specified as the log2 of the actual denominator. E.g. for ADCs and DACs this
will usually be the number of significant bits.

TI LP8788 PMU provides regulators, battery charger, ADC,
RTC, backlight driver and current sinks.
This patch enables the LP8788 ADC functions.
The LP8788 ADC has several ADC input selection and supports 12bit resolution.
Internal operation of getting ADC is access to registers of LP8788.
The LP8788 ADC uses exported functions for accessing these registers.
(exported by LP8788 MFD device driver)
This driver supports IIO_CHAN_INFO_RAW and SCALE.
So the IIO consumer can calculate the value with raw and scale.
The unit of scale is micro.
(ADC Input Selection)
Voltage: battery voltage (MAX 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0V)
charger input voltage
four general ADC inputs
coin cell voltage
Current: battery charging current
Temperature: IC temperature
(The IIO map for the IIO consumer)
The ADC input is configurable in the platform side.
Even though this platform data is not defined,
the default IIO map is created for supporting the power supply driver.
The battery voltage and temperature are used inside this driver.
(History)
Patch v6.
(a) Fix scale value for each ADC input selection
Voltage and current type are mili unit and temperature is degree.
To calculate the IC temperature,
temp = raw * scaleint + (raw * scalepart)/ 1000000, scaleint is always 0.
= raw * 0.061050, raw: 0 ~ 4095
Then range of IC temperature(ADC result) is 0 ~ 250'C
(b) Reorganization of the IIO channel Spec
Remove address, scan_type and scan_index and rollback the datasheet name.
The reason why 'address' field is unnecessary is no relation with each channel.
Moreover, to get the raw ADC value, the address info is not only one register
but also several registers.
Therefore specific function(lp8788_get_adc_result) is called rather than
using one 'address' field.
(c) Fix coding style
Remove duplicated checking routine while unregistering the IIO map.
Fix code for space and parenthesis.
Patch v5.
Fix default consumer name as 'lp8788-charger'.
Add mutex for ADC read operation.
Reorganization on lp8788_adc_read_raw().
Patch v4.

When the IIO consumer tries to get specific IIO channel,
few error cases can be happened.
(a) Memory allocation failure
(b) No matched ADC channel error
(c) Invalid input arguments
This patch enables cleaning up error handling in case of (a) and (b).
In error handling code,
(a): the reference count of the IIO device should be decreased.
(b): the allocated memory should be freed with restoring the reference count.
Therefore iio_deivce_put() is called in both cases.
This can be handled in the last error statement.
Additionally, integer variable is used for stating each error case explicitly.
Then, the error returns as ERR_PTR() with this value.

When hid sensor hub is unplugged, there is a crash in
iio_device_unregister_trigger_consumer.
In a typical IIO driver when remove is called, it will unregister and free
trigger and then it will call iio_device_free.
The function iio_trigger_free() will free the allocated memory for trigger.
If this trigger was assigned to iio_dev->trig, then it should be set to NULL.
Othewise when iio_device_free() is called later, it finally calls
iio_device_unregsister_trigger(), which checks for
if (indio_dev->trig)
iio_trigger_put(indio_dev->trig);
If indio_dev->trig is not set to NULL, it calls iio_trigger_put on a bad
pointer causing crash.
This scenerio can happen in any driver, which is storing trigger pointer in
iio_dev structure and following current procedure during remove.

6) Support for the ad7091r in the ad7476 driver.
Add support for the ad7091r 12 bit ADC to the ad7476 driver. Although the
ad7091r is not really related to any of the other devices supported by this
driver, luckily for us there are not so many ways (which are not totally insane)
how sampling a single channel ADC via SPI can be implemented and support for the
ad7091r can be added to the driver with just a few adjustments.
The ad7091r requires an external "conversion start" pulse to start a sample
conversion. After the conversion has finished the result can be read via SPI. We
depend on a IIO trigger to generate this signal, as a result only sampling in
buffered mode and not in manual mode is available.

attempt to read the IIO_CHAN_INFO_PROCESSED attribute. If that fails it will

for the AD5755/AD5757 each of the outputs can be configured to either be a

time since usually this needs to match the external circuitry and should not be
changed on the fly.

The datasheet name is defined in the IIO driver.
On the other hand, the adc_channel_label is configured in
the platform side.
If the datasheet name is not matched with any adc_channel_label,
the iio_channel_get() should be returned as error for preventing
invalid channel data access.
This can be handled either way.
(a) checking null data when using it : in the xxx_read_raw()
or
(b) error returns when the channel is requested : this patch
The IIO consumer can't use the channel with invalid channel spec.
Therefore case (b) is more reasonable.

Use kzalloc() rather than kmalloc() for initializing the iio_channel structure.
This patch enables the iio_dev and iio_chan_spec are set to NULL.
This may prevent the page fault problem because the pointer of iio_chan_spec
is initialized as NULL.
The iio_chan_spec is updated only in case that the IIO map has
specific channel label.
When the map has no ADC channel label, then the value of iio_chan_spec
remains as invalid pointer.
To prevent this problem, the pointer should be initialized as NULL.

Currently IIO uses a decimal fixed point representations for real type numbers.
This patch introduces a new representation for rational type numbers. The number
will be expressed by specifying a numerator and denominator. For converting a
raw value to a processed value multiply it by the numerator and divide it by the
denominator.
The reasoning for introducing this new type is that for a lot of devices the
scale can be represented easily by a fractional number, but it is not possible
to represent it as fixed point number without rounding. E.g. for a simple DAC
the scale is often the reference voltage divided by the number of possible
values (Usually 2**n_bits - 1). Each driver currently implements the conversion
of this fraction to a fixed point number on its own.
Also when it comes to the in-kernel interface this allows to directly use the
fractional factors to convert a raw value to a processed value. This should on
one hand require less instructions and on the other hand increase the
precision.

By bypassing the standard macros for setting up the kfifo we can
take advantage of the fixed record size implementation without
having to have a type to pass in (from which the size of an element
is normally established).
In IIO we have variable 'scans' as our records in which any element
can be present or not. They do not however vary when we are
actually filling or reading from the buffer. Thus we have a fixed
record size whenever we are actually running. As setup and tear
down are not in the fast path we can take the overhead of reinitializing
the kfifo every time.
