ARM: SoC multiplatform code changes for v4.5
This branch is the culmination of 5 years of effort to bring the ARMv6
and ARMv7 platforms together such that they can all be enabled and
boot the same kernel. It has been a tremendous amount of cleanup and
refactoring by a huge number of people, and creation of several new
(and major) subsystems to better abstract out all the platform details
in an appropriate manner.
The bulk of this branch is a large patchset from Arnd that brings several
of the more minor and older platforms we have closer to multiplatform
support. Among these are MMP, S3C64xx, Orion5x, mv78xx0 and realview
Much of this is moving around header files from old mach directories,
but there are also some cleanup patches of debug_ll (lowlevel debug
per-platform options) and other parts.
Linus Walleij also has some patchs to clean up the older ARM Realview
platforms by finally introducing DT support, and Rob Herring has some
for ARM Versatile which is now DT-only. Both of these platforms are
now multiplatform.
Finally, a couple of patches from Russell for Dove PMU, and a fix from
Valentin Rothberg for Exynos ADC, which were rebased on top of the
series to avoid conflicts.

sound updates for 4.5-rc1
We've had quite busy weeks in this cycle. Looking at ALSA core, the
significant changes are a few fixes wrt timer and sequencer ioctls
that have been revealed by fuzzer recently. Other than that, ASoC
core got a few updates about DAI link handling, but these are rather
straightforward refactoring.
In drivers scene, ASoC received quite lots of new drivers in addition
to bunch of updates for still ongoing Intel Skylake support and
topology API. HD-audio gained a new HDMI/DP hotplug notification via
component. FireWire got a pile of code refactoring/updates with
SCS.1x driver integration.
More highlights are shown below.
[NOTE: this contains also many commits for DRM. This is due to the
pull of drm stable branch into sound tree, as the base of i915 audio
component work for HD-audio. The highlights below don't contain
these DRM changes, as these are supposed to be pulled via drm tree in
anyway sooner or later.]

ARM: s3c64xx: use new adc/touchscreen driver
The old ADC and touchscreen drivers are not compatible with multiplatform support, but we can use the exynos-adc driver as a replacement. This changes the common device creation functions for s3c64xx (but not s3c24xx for now) to use the new driver. ASoC: samsung: pass filter function as pointer
As we are now passing the filter data as pointers to the drivers, we can take the final step and also pass the filter function the same way. I'm keeping this change separate, as there it's less obvious that this is a net win. Upsides of this are: - The ASoC drivers are completely independent from the DMA engine implementation, which simplifies the Kconfig logic and in theory allows the same sound drivers to be built in a kernel that supports different kinds of dmaengine drivers. - Consistency with other subsystems and drivers On the other hand, we have a few downsides: - The s3c24xx-dma driver now needs to be built-in for the ac97 platform device to be instantiated on s3c2440. - samsung_dmaengine_pcm_config cannot be marked 'const' any more because the filter function pointer needs to be set at runtime. This is safe as long we don't have multiple different DMA engines in thet same system at runtime, but is nonetheless ugly. ARM64 allmodconfig produces a bunch of warnings when building the samsung ASoC code: sound/soc/samsung/dmaengine.c: In function 'samsung_asoc_init_dma_data': sound/soc/samsung/dmaengine.c:53:32: warning: cast to pointer from integer of different size [-Wint-to-pointer-cast] playback_data->filter_data = (void *)playback->channel; sound/soc/samsung/dmaengine.c:60:31: warning: cast to pointer from integer of different size [-Wint-to-pointer-cast] capture_data->filter_data = (void *)capture->channel; We could easily shut up the warning by adding an intermediate cast, but there is a bigger underlying problem: The use of IORESOURCE_DMA to pass data from platform code to device drivers is dubious to start with, as what we really want is a pointer that can be passed into a filter function. Note that on s3c64xx, the pl08x DMA data is already a pointer, but gets cast to resource_size_t so we can pass it as a resource, and it then gets converted back to a pointer. In contrast, the data we pass for s3c24xx is an index into a device specific table, and we artificially convert that into a pointer for the filter function. ARM: s3c64xx: Add support for DMA using generic amba-pl08x driver
This patch adds all required platform-specific data and initialization code to support the generic amba-pl08x driver on S3C64xx SoCs. Also some compatibility definitions are added to make the transition from legacy API to DMA engine easier. The biggest hack here is passing const char * pointers through DMA resource, casted to unsigned long, but this is how Samsung DMA wrappers (used to support both s3c-dma and DMA engine in drivers) are designed. This is a rather large set of patches for device drivers that for one
reason or another the subsystem maintainer preferred to get merged
through the arm-soc tree. There are both new drivers as well as
existing drivers that are getting converted from platform-specific
code into standalone drivers using the appropriate subsystem
specific interfaces.
In particular, we can now have pinctrl, clk, clksource and irqchip
drivers in one file per driver, without the need to call into
platform specific interface, or to get called from platform specific
code, as long as all information about the hardware is provided
through a device tree.
Most of the drivers we touch this time are for clocksource. Since
now most of them are part of drivers/clocksource, I expect that we
won't have to touch these again from arm-soc and can let the
clocksource maintainers take care of these in the future.
Another larger part of this series is specific to the exynos platform,
which is seeing some significant effort in upstreaming and
modernization of its device drivers this time around, which
unfortunately is also the cause for the churn and a lot of the
merge conflicts.
There is one new subsystem that gets merged as part of this series:
the reset controller interface, which is a very simple interface
for taking devices on the SoC out of reset or back into reset.
Patches to use this interface on i.MX follow later in this merge
window, and we are going to have other platforms (at least tegra
and sirf) get converted in 3.11. This will let us get rid of
platform specific callbacks in a number of platform independent
device drivers.

discussion if we need additional arbitration on top of the one
specified in the I2C standard. Conclusion is that I accept a few

- the core lost the detach_adapter() call. It has no users anymore and
was in the way for other cleanups. attach_adapter() is sadly still
there since there are users waiting to be converted.
- the core gained a bus recovery infrastructure. I2C defines a way to
recover if the data line is stalled. This mechanism is now in the
core and drivers can now pass some data to make use of it.
- bigger driver cleanups for designware, s3c2410
- removing superfluous refcounting from drivers

ARM: arm-soc multiplatform updates for 3.10
More multiplatform enablement for ARM platforms. The ones converted in this branch are: - bcm2835 - cns3xxx - sirf - nomadik - msx - spear - tegra - ux500 We're getting close to having most of them converted! One of the larger platforms remaining is Samsung Exynos, and there are a bunch of supporting patches in this merge window for it. There was a patch in this branch to a early version of multiplatform conversion, but it ended up being reverted due to need of more bake time. spi: s3c64xx: move to generic dmaengine API
The spi-s3c64xx uses a Samsung proprietary interface for talking to the DMA engine, which does not work with multiplatform kernels. This version of the patch leaves the old code in place, behind an #ifdef. This can be removed in the future, after the s3c64xx platform start supporting the regular dmaengine interface. An earlier version of this patch was tested successfully on exynos5250 by Padma Venkat. Firs of all, we need to fix IRQ_PMU correctly and to split pmu initialization of exynos from plat-samsung for easily defining it. ASoC: Samsung: Do not register samsung audio dma device as pdev
Previously, the ASoC 'platform' (PCM/DMA) object was instantiated via a platform_device. This didn't represent the hardware well, since there was no separate hardware associated with this platform_device; it was a virtual device with sole purpose to call snd_soc_register_platform(). This change removes the platform_device completely. Each Samsung DAI now registers the ASoC 'platform' itself. Machine drivers are adjusted for the new 'platform' name. ARM: EXYNOS: Make s3c_device_i2c0 always use id 0
This patch removes compatibility definitions added long time ago when clock ids were used instead of devnames that were needed for platforms with only one i2c controller with id -1 (some s3c24xx's). Because currently devname field is used for matching device instances to clocks and if no devname is provided (as in clock-s3c2412.c and common-s3c2443.c for i2c clock, both in arch/arm/mach-s3c24xx) the clock is being matched only by name, so s3c_device_i2c0 can always have id 0. This patch solves the issue with i2c0 broken on boards where its the only i2c controller used, tested on Origen. branch) merged, it is now possible to build one kernel that contains
support for highbank, vexpress, mvebu, socfpga, and picoxcell. More
platforms will be convered over in the next few releases.
Two critical last things had to be done for this to be practical and
possible:
* Today each platform has its own include directory under
mach-<mach>/include/mach/*, and traditionally that is where a lot of
driver/platform shared definitions have gone, such as platform data
structures. They now need to move out to a common location instead,
and this branch moves a large number of those out to
include/linux/platform_data.
* Each platform used to list the device trees to compile for its
boards in mach-<mach>/Makefile.boot.
Both of the above changes will mean that there are some merge
conflicts to come (and some to resolve here). It's a one-time move and
once it settles in, we should be good for quite a while. Sorry for the

Most notable here is probably the addition of basic support for the BCM2835, an SoC used in some of the Roku 2 players as well as the much-hyped Raspberry Pi, cleaned up and contributed by Stephen Warren. It's still early days on mainline support, with just the basics working. But it has to start somewhere! Beyond that there's some conversions of clock infrastructure on tegra to common clock, misc updates for several other platforms, and OMAP now has its own bus (under drivers/bus) to manage its devices through. This branch adds two new directories outside of arch/arm: drivers/irqchip for new irq controllers, and drivers/bus for the above OMAP bus. ARM: soc: general cleanups
This is a large branch that contains a handful of different cleanups:
- Fixing up the I/O space remapping on PCI on ARM. This is a series
from Rob Herring that restructures how all pci devices allocate I/O
space, and it's part of the work to allow multiplatform kernels.
- A number of cleanup series for OMAP, moving and removing some
headers, sparse irq rework and in general preparation for
multiplatform.
- Final removal of all non-DT boards for Tegra, it is now
device-tree-only!
- Removal of a stale platform, nxp4008. It's an old mobile chipset
that is no longer in use, and was very likely never really used with
a mainline kernel. We have not been able to find anyone interested
in keeping it around in the kernel.

ARM: pmu: remove arm_pmu_type enumeration
The arm_pmu_type enumeration was initially introduced to identify different PMU types in the system, the usual one being that on the CPU (ARM_PMU_DEVICE_CPU). With the removal of the PMU reservation code and the introduction of devicetree bindings for the CPU PMU, the enumeration is no longer required. This patch removes the enumeration and updates the various CPU PMU platform devices so that they no longer pass an .id field referring to identify the PMU type.
