This adds a couple of printk's to windfarm_pm112 to display which
control loops are actually starting and fixes a bug where it would not
start all loops.

Benjamin Herrenschmidt b55fafc5a8 [PATCH] powerpc: Fix old g5 issues with windfarm
Some of the windfarm sensor modules can initialize on old machines that
don't have full windfarm support like non-dual core desktop G5s.
Unfortunately, by doing so, they would trigger a bug in their matching
algorithm causing them to attach to the wrong bus, thus triggering
issues with the i2c core and breaking the thermal driver.

This patch fixes the probing issue (so that they will work when a
windfarm port is done to these machines) and also prevents for now
windfarm to load at all on these machines that still use therm_pm72 to
avoid wasting resources.

Johannes Berg 9127dd1aac [PATCH] allow windfarm_pm112 module to load
The windfarm_pm112 module relies on smu_sat_get_sdb_partition which is in
windfarm_smu_sat.c but is not exported to modules, so despite Kconfig
having the option to build the pm112 as modules, this can never be loaded.

This patch fixes that by exporting smu_sat_get_sdb_partition with
EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL

Benjamin Herrenschmidt ac171c4666 [PATCH] powerpc: Thermal control for dual core G5s
This patch adds a windfarm module, windfarm_pm112, for the dual core G5s
(both 2 and 4 core models), keeping the machine from getting into
vacuum-cleaner mode ;) For proper credits, the patch was initially
written by Paul Mackerras, and slightly reworked by me to add overtemp
handling among others. The patch also removes the sysfs attributes from
windfarm_pm81 and windfarm_pm91 and instead adds code to the windfarm
core to automagically expose attributes for sensor & controls.

Benjamin Herrenschmidt 5b9ca52691 [PATCH] 3/5 powerpc: Add platform functions interpreter
This is the platform function interpreter itself along with the backends
for UniN/U3/U4, mac-io, GPIOs and i2c. It adds the ability to execute
those do-platform-* scripts in the device-tree (at least for most
devices for which a backend is provided). This should replace the clock
spreading hacks properly. It might also have an impact on all sort of
machines since some of the scripts marked "at init" will now be executed
on boot (or some other on sleep/wakeup), those will possibly do things
that the kernel didn't do at all, like setting some values into some i2c
devices (changing thermal sensor calibration or conversion rate) etc...
Thus regression testing is MUCH welcome. Also loook for errors in dmesg.
That's also why I've left rather verbose debugging enabled in this
version of the patch.

(I do expect some Windtunnel G4s to show some errors as they have an i2c
clock chip on the PMU bus that uses some primitives that the i2c backend
doesn't implement yet. I really need users that have one of those
machine to come back to me so we can get that done right, though the
errors themselves should be harmless, I suspect the machine might not
run at full speed).

Benjamin Herrenschmidt a28d3af2a2 [PATCH] 2/5 powerpc: Rework PowerMac i2c part 2
This is the continuation of the previous patch. This one removes the old
PowerMac i2c drivers (i2c-keywest and i2c-pmac-smu) and replaces them
both with a single stub driver that uses the new PowerMac low i2c layer.

Now that i2c-keywest is gone, the low-i2c code is extended to support
interrupt driver transfers. All i2c busses now appear as platform
devices. Compatibility with existing drivers should be maintained as the
i2c bus names have been kept identical, except for the SMU bus but in
that later case, all users has been fixed.

With that patch added, matching a device node to an i2c_adapter becomes
trivial.

Benjamin Herrenschmidt 730745a5c4 [PATCH] 1/5 powerpc: Rework PowerMac i2c part 1
This is the first part of a rework of the PowerMac i2c code. It
completely reworks the "low_i2c" layer. It is now more flexible,
supports KeyWest, SMU and PMU i2c busses, and provides functions to
match device nodes to i2c busses and adapters.

This patch also extends & fix some bugs in the SMU driver related to i2c
support and removes the clock spreading hacks from the pmac feature code
rather than adapting them to the new API since they'll be replaced by
the platform function code completely in patch 3/5

Benjamin Herrenschmidt 1beb6a7d6c [PATCH] powerpc: Experimental support for new G5 Macs (#2)
This adds some very basic support for the new machines, including the
Quad G5 (tested), and other new dual core based machines and iMac G5
iSight (untested). This is still experimental !  There is no thermal
control yet, there is no proper handing of MSIs, etc.. but it
boots, I have all 4 cores up on my machine. Compared to the previous
version of this patch, this one adds DART IOMMU support for the U4
chipset and thus should work fine on setups with more than 2Gb of RAM.

Benjamin Herrenschmidt cc5d0189b9 [PATCH] powerpc: Remove device_node addrs/n_addr
The pre-parsed addrs/n_addrs fields in struct device_node are finally
gone. Remove the dodgy heuristics that did that parsing at boot and
remove the fields themselves since we now have a good replacement with
the new OF parsing code. This patch also fixes a bunch of drivers to use
the new code instead, so that at least pmac32, pseries, iseries and g5
defconfigs build.

Benjamin Herrenschmidt bb6b9b28d6 [PATCH] powerpc: udbg updates
The udbg low level io layer has an issue with udbg_getc() returning a
char (unsigned on ppc) instead of an int, thus the -1 if you had no
available input device could end up turned into 0xff, filling your
display with bogus characters. This fixes it, along with adding a little
blob to xmon to do a delay before exiting when getting an EOF and fixing
the detection of ADB keyboards in udbg_adb.c

Benjamin Herrenschmidt 51d3082fe6 [PATCH] powerpc: Unify udbg (#2)
This patch unifies udbg for both ppc32 and ppc64 when building the
merged achitecture. xmon now has a single "back end". The powermac udbg
stuff gets enriched with some ADB capabilities and btext output. In
addition, the early_init callback is now called on ppc32 as well,
approx. in the same order as ppc64 regarding device-tree manipulations.
The init sequences of ppc32 and ppc64 are getting closer, I'll unify
them in a later patch.

For now, you can force udbg to the scc using "sccdbg" or to btext using
"btextdbg" on powermacs. I'll implement a cleaner way of forcing udbg
output to something else than the autodetected OF output device in a
later patch.

Greg Kroah-Hartman 2b48716d1d [PATCH] I2C: Remove .owner setting from i2c_driver as it's no longer needed
Now that i2c_add_driver() doesn't need the module owner to be set by
hand, we can delete it from the drivers.  This patch catches all of the
drivers that I found in the current tree (if a driver sets the .owner by
hand, it's not a problem, just not needed.)

Just about every i2c chip driver sets the I2C_DF_NOTIFY flag, so we
can simply make it the default and drop the flag. If any driver really
doesn't want to be notified when i2c adapters are added, that driver
can simply omit to set .attach_adapter. This approach is also more
robust as it prevents accidental NULL pointer dereferences.

Benjamin Herrenschmidt f12f4d9030 [PATCH] powerpc: more g5 overtemp problem fix
Some G5s still occasionally experience shutdowns due to overtemp
conditions despite the recent fix. After analyzing logs from such
machines, it appears that the overtemp code is a bit too quick at
shutting the machine down when reaching the critical temperature (tmax +
8) and doesn't leave the fan enough time to actually cool it down. This
happens if the temperature of a CPU suddenly rises too high in a very
short period of time, or occasionally on boot (that is the CPUs are
already overtemp by the time the driver loads).

This patches makes the code a bit more relaxed, leaving a few seconds to
the fans to do their job before kicking the machine shutown.

Benjamin Herrenschmidt 6ee7fb7e36 [PATCH] powerpc: g5 thermal overtemp bug
The g5 thermal control for liquid cooled machines has a small bug, when
the temperatures gets too high, it boosts all fans to the max, but
incorrectly sets the liquids pump to the min instead of the max speed,
thus causing the overtemp condition not to clear and the machine to shut
down after a while. This fixes it to set the pumps to max speed instead.
This problem might explain some of the reports of random shutdowns that
some g5 users have been reporting in the past.

Many thanks to Marcus Rothe for spending a lot of time trying various
patches & sending log logs before I found out that typo. Note that
overtemp handling is still not perfect and the machine might still
shutdown, that patch should reduce if not eliminate such occcurences in
"normal" conditions with high load. I'll implement a better handling
with proper slowing down of the CPUs later.

Paul Mackerras a000503471 powerpc: exclude powerbook sleep code with CONFIG_PPC64 and CONFIG_PM
We were getting powerbook sleep code included, and giving compile
errors, with CONFIG_PM=y on a 64-bit build.  This excludes that code
so the kernel will compile.  One day BenH will implement on sleep on
the G5...

I recently picked up my older work to remove unnecessary #includes of
sched.h, starting from a patch by Dave Jones to not include sched.h
from module.h. This reduces the number of indirect includes of sched.h
by ~300. Another ~400 pointless direct includes can be removed after
this disentangling (patch to follow later).
However, quite a few indirect includes need to be fixed up for this.

In order to feed the patches through -mm with as little disturbance as
possible, I've split out the fixes I accumulated up to now (complete for
i386 and x86_64, more archs to follow later) and post them before the real
patch.  This way this large part of the patch is kept simple with only
adding #includes, and all hunks are independent of each other.  So if any
hunk rejects or gets in the way of other patches, just drop it.  My scripts
will pick it up again in the next round.

Paul Mackerras f2783c1500 powerpc: Merge time.c and asm/time.h.
We now use the merged time.c for both 32-bit and 64-bit compilation
with ARCH=powerpc, and for ARCH=ppc64, but not for ARCH=ppc32.
This removes setup_default_decr (folds its function into time_init)
and moves wakeup_decrementer into time.c.  This also makes an
asm-powerpc/rtc.h.

Benjamin Herrenschmidt a44fe13eab [PATCH] Fix ppc64 smu driver locking
The SMU driver has a small mistake in the locking of the interrupt code,
if polled access and interrupt access race, interrupt may take a lock
and return without releasing it. This fixes it. With that patch, the
driver is rock solid with my experimental thermal control (which bangs
it pretty hard) racing with real time clock and cpufreq handling.

Paul Mackerras 14cf11af6c powerpc: Merge enough to start building in arch/powerpc.
This creates the directory structure under arch/powerpc and a bunch
of Kconfig files.  It does a first-cut merge of arch/powerpc/mm,
arch/powerpc/lib and arch/powerpc/platforms/powermac.  This is enough
to build a 32-bit powermac kernel with ARCH=powerpc.

For now we are getting some unmerged files from arch/ppc/kernel and
arch/ppc/syslib, or arch/ppc64/kernel.  This makes some minor changes
to files in those directories and files outside arch/powerpc.

The boot directory is still not merged.  That's going to be interesting.

Benjamin Herrenschmidt 0365ba7fb1 [PATCH] ppc64: SMU driver update & i2c support
The SMU is the "system controller" chip used by Apple recent G5 machines
including the iMac G5.  It drives things like fans, i2c busses, real time
clock, etc...

The current kernel contains a very crude driver that doesn't do much more
than reading the real time clock synchronously.  This is a completely
rewritten driver that provides interrupt based command queuing, a userland
interface, and an i2c/smbus driver for accessing the devices hanging off
the SMU i2c busses like temperature sensors.  This driver is a basic block
for upcoming work on thermal control for those machines, among others.

Pavel Machek ca078bae81 [PATCH] swsusp: switch pm_message_t to struct
This adds type-checking to pm_message_t, so that people can't confuse it
with int or u32.  It also allows us to fix "disk yoyo" during suspend (disk
spinning down/up/down).

[We've tried that before; since that cpufreq problems were fixed and I've

Jeff Mahoney 184f6eb8c4 [PATCH] openfirmware: implement hotplug for macio devices
This adds the hotplug routine for generating hotplug events when devices
are seen on the macio bus.  It uses the attributed created by the sysfs
nodes to generate the hotplug environment vars for userspace.

Since the characters allowed inside the 'compatible' field are NUL
terminated, they are exported as individual OF_COMPATIBLE_# variables,
with OF_COMPATIBLE_N maintaining a count of how many there are.

Benjamin Herrenschmidt e4ee69c8c1 [PATCH] ppc32: Bump PMU interrupt priority
The Power Management Unit on PowerMacs is very sensitive to timeouts during
async message exchanges.  It uses rather crude protocol based on a shift
register with an interrupt and is almost continuously exchanging messages with
the host CPU on laptops.

This patch adds a routine to the open_pic driver to be able to select a PMU
driver so that it bumps it's interrupt priority to above the normal level.

This will allow PMU interrupts to occur while another interrupt is pending,
and thus reduce the risk of machine beeing abruptly shutdown by the PMU due to
a timeout in PMU communication caused by excessive interrupt latency.  The
problem is very rare, and usually just doesn't happen, but it is still useful
to make things even more robust.

1. Establish a simple API for process freezing defined in linux/include/sched.h:

   frozen(process)		Check for frozen process
   freezing(process)		Check if a process is being frozen
   freeze(process)		Tell a process to freeze (go to refrigerator)
   thaw_process(process)	Restart process
   frozen_process(process)	Process is frozen now

2. Remove all references to PF_FREEZE and PF_FROZEN from all
   kernel sources except sched.h

3. Fix numerous locations where try_to_freeze is manually done by a driver

4. Remove the argument that is no longer necessary from two function calls.

5. Some whitespace cleanup

6. Clear potential race in refrigerator (provides an open window of PF_FREEZE
   cleared before setting PF_FROZEN, recalc_sigpending does not check
   PF_FROZEN).

This patch does not address the problem of freeze_processes() violating the rule
that a task may only modify its own flags by setting PF_FREEZE. This is not clean
in an SMP environment. freeze(process) is therefore not SMP safe!

Jean Delvare b3d5496ea5 [PATCH] I2C: Kill address ranges in non-sensors i2c chip drivers
Some months ago, you killed the address ranges mechanism from all
sensors i2c chip drivers (both the module parameters and the in-code
address lists). I think it was a very good move, as the ranges can
easily be replaced by individual addresses, and this allowed for
significant cleanups in the i2c core (let alone the impressive size
shrink for all these drivers).

Unfortunately you did not do the same for non-sensors i2c chip drivers.
These need the address ranges even less, so we could get rid of the
ranges here as well for another significant i2c core cleanup. Here comes
a patch which does just that. Since the process is exactly the same as
what you did for the other drivers set already, I did not split this one
in parts.

A documentation update is included.

The change saves 308 bytes in the i2c core, and an average 1382 bytes
for chip drivers which use I2C_CLIENT_INSMOD, 126 bytes for those which
do not.

This change is required if we want to merge the sensors and non-sensors
i2c code (and we want to do this).

Benjamin Herrenschmidt 0086b5ec78 [PATCH] ppc32: Fix nasty sleep/wakeup problem
Despite all the care lately in making the powermac sleep/wakeup as
robust as possible, there is still a nasty related to the use of cpufreq
on PMU based machines.  Unfortunately, it affects paulus old powerbook
so I have to fix it :)

We didn't manage to understand what is precisely going on, it leads to
memory corruption and might have to do with RAM not beeing properly
refreshed when a cpufreq transition is done right before the sleep.

The best workaround (and less intrusive at this point) we could come up
with is included in this patch.  We basically do _not_ force a switch to
high speed on suspend anymore (that is what is causing the problem) on
those machines.  We still force a speed switch on wakeup (since we don't
know what speed we are coming back from sleep at, and that seems to work
fine).

Since, during this short interval, the actual CPU speed might be
incorrect, we also hack around by multiplying loops_per_jiffy by 2 (max
speed factor on those machines) during early wakeup stage to make sure
udelay's during that time aren't too short.

For after 2.6.12, we'll change udelay implementation to use the CPU
timebase (which is always constant) instead like we do on ppc64 and thus
get rid of all those problems.

Recent kernels occasionally trigger a PMU timeout on some mac laptops,
typically on wakeup from sleep.  This seem to be caused by either a too big
latency caused by the cpufreq switch on wakeup from sleep or by an
interrupt beeing lost due to the reset of the interrupt controller done
during wakeup.

This patch makes that code more robust by stopping PMU auto poll activity
around cpufreq changes on machines that use the PMU for such changes (long
latency switching involving a CPU hard reset and flush of all caches) and
by removing the reset of the open pic interrupt controller on wakeup (that
can cause the loss of an interrupt and Darwin doesn't do it, so it must not
be necessary).

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history,
even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git
archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about
3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early
git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good
infrastructure for it.
