Add register offset fields to GPIO platform_data for registers.
This patch adds registers that control direction, input and output
data. Using these register offsets in the common driver allows
removal of #ifdefs and greatly improves readability.
Also create dedicated data out functions: one for banks with dedicated
set/clear registers, and another for banks with a single mask
register.

replaced by using bitops based on the GPIO bank width. Do so.

Rather than having a file-global bank_width variable, move it into
struct gpio_bank so it can be bank-specific. Note the bank width
is already passed per-bank via platform_data, so current code would
be incorrect if any banks had different width.

Remove the OMAP1 #ifdef and MPUIO special case for _clear_gpio_irqbank()
The MPUIOs do not need a register access to ack/clear the IRQ status,
since reading the IRQ status clears it. In addition, the MPUIO
irq_chip has an empty ack method, so _clear_gpio_irqbank() is never
used for MPUIOs.

In commit 78a1a6d341 (ARM: OMAP4: Update
the GPIO support) braces were mistakenly added to included the
register read-back inside the cpu_is_* checking.
Remove the braces, ensuring that a register read-back is done, even
when the IRQSTATUS2 register is not written.
Note that the register read-back might be IRQSTATUS1 or IRQSTATUS2
depending on the CPU, but a read-back of any register in that region
will cause a flush of the posted writes.

If gpio pins from bank[2-5] are marked as wakeup enable and if the wake is
through gpio IO pad wakeup, then that wakeup gpio interrupt is lost.
In the current implementation, GPIO driver stores the context of DATAIN of
all the gpio in the bank. During GPIO resuming, it checks DATAIN with wakeup
enabled pins of gpio bank. If there is status change, then manually toggle
GPIO_LEVELDETECT to generate pseudo interrupt.

The 74x164 GPIO driver has a static inline helper called
gpio_to_chip which clashes with the gpiolib namespace if we
try to expose the function with the same name from gpiolib,
and it's still confusing even if we don't do that. So rename
it to gpio_to_74x164_chip().

It seems that in the normal case, IRQ_NOREQUEST needs to be explicitly
cleared, otherwise claiming the interrupt fails.
In the case of sparse interrupts, the descriptor needs to be allocated
first.

The S3C_GPIO_PULL_UP macro value incorrectly maps to a reserved setting of GPIO
pull up/down registers on Exynos4 platform. Fix this incorrect mapping by adding
wrappers to the s3c_gpio_setpull_updown and s3c_gpio_getpull_updown functions.

_set_gpio_triggering uses read-modify-write on bank registers,
lock bank->lock around all calls to it to prevent register
corruption if two cpus access gpios in the same bank at the
same time.

Setting the IRQWAKEN bit was overwriting previous IRQWAKEN bits,
causing only the last bit set to take effect, resulting in lost
wakeups when the GPIO controller is in idle.
Replace direct writes to IRQWAKEN with MOD_REG_BIT calls to
perform a read-modify-write on the register.

* Add a list to save all mx2 ports references, so that
mx2_gpio_irq_handler can walk through all interrupt status
registers
* Use readl/writel to replace mach-specific accessors
__raw_readl/__raw_writel
* Change mxc_gpio_init into mxc_gpio_probe function
* Move "struct mxc_gpio_port" into gpio-mxc.c, as it needs not to
be public at all, and also make some other cleanup on
plat-mxc/include/mach/gpio.h at the same time
And the patch then migrates mach-imx and mach-mx5 to the updated
driver by adding corresponding platform devices.

Remove the #define GEN_74X164_GPIO_COUNT since it's only used in
one place and it's meaning is obvious. Also remove the #define
GEN_74X164_DRIVER_NAME and use spi->modalias to set the gpio chip's
label and the string "74x164" for the driver name.
Reorder the code slightly to remove the need to prototype
gen_74x164_set_value.

We had a few drivers move from arch/arm into drivers/gpio, but they
don't actually compile without the ARM platform headers etc. As a
result they were messing up allyesconfig on x86.
Make them depend on ARM.

GPIO 1 to 8 are added for TPS65911 chip version. The gpio driver
now handles more than one gpio lines. Subsequent versions of the
chip family can add new GPIO lines with minimal driver changes.

While this is essentially a no-op for this driver, it has the

PCA957x is i2c gpio expander, and similar to PCA953x. Although register
configurations are different between PCA957x and PCA953x. They can share
a lot of components, such as IRQ handling, GPIO IN/OUT. So updating PCA953x
driver to support PCA957x chips.

Allow GPIO_BASIC_MMIO_CORE to be used to provide an accessor library
for implementing GPIO drivers whilst abstracting the register access
detail. Based on a patch from Anton Vorontsov[1] and adapted to allow
bgpio_chip to be embedded in another structure.

The build files for drivers/gpio has some wording and comments
about the directory being reserved exclusively for GPIO expanders
(according to the gpio.txt file these are on external busses) and
this has been false for some time. We already have PL061 and
Xilinx drivers which are in silicon and now I'm moving more
silicon drivers here, so delete this and reword it a bit.

Make pca953x driver use the simple irq handler since no hardware control
is necessary and the driver lacks an irq_ack function. handle_edge_irq()
calls chip->irq_ack() which crashes since this function does not exist.

Some controllers have separate input and output registers. For these
controllers, use "set" for the output and "dat" for the input.

Using C line continuation inside format strings is error prone.
Clean up the unintended whitespace introduced by misuse of \.
Neaten correctly used line continations as well for consistency.
drivers/scsi/arcmsr/arcmsr_hba.c has these errors as well,
but arcmsr needs a lot more work and the driver should likely be
moved to staging instead.

If the device fails to respond, then the error path tries to remove an
interrupt that never got registered, which causes an backtrace from the
interrupt handling code.
Fix this by ensuring that the cleanup path has two labels and use the
correct path as needed.
fixes the following error:

To get rid of port expanders, the free GPIOs of ab8500
can be used. There are 42 GPIO pins. Out of which 16
are interrupt capable.This patch implements 16 virtual
IRQ mapped to 16 interrupt capable AB8500 GPIOs.

gpiolib plus two gpio implementations in arm fiddle in the guts of
irq_desc in a racy and buggy way. Remove the stuff. I already told the
gpio folks that we can provide that information in a proper way if
necessary.

Almost the same driver for both Poulsbo and Tunnel Creek.
The difference is in quantity of GPIOs powered by the core power
rail and by suspend power supply, default values for some GPIOs, etc.
Detect actual hardware by platform device ID assigned in lpc_sch
and set configuration accordingly.

Use mfd_data for passing information from mfd drivers to soc
clients. The mfd_cell's driver_data field is being phased out.
Clients that were using driver_data now access .mfd_data
via mfd_get_data().

Note that the mfd's platform_data is marked __devinitdata. This
is still correct in all cases except for the timbgpio driver, whose
remove hook has been changed to no longer reference the pdata.

I don't have the specs for this beast, but it looks a lot like the PXA
GPIO block. Though I bet it's the same IP and the driver should have
reused the PXA code.
Acknowleding the edge detect status after handling one or more gpio
interrupts looks wrong. We might lose an edge which came in while we
handled the previous one.

With the following explanation:
"Latest kernel has many changes in IRQ subsystem and its interfaces,
like adding irq_eoi" for struct irq_chip, this patch will make it
support both the new and old interface."
This is completely bogus.
#1) The changelog does not match the patch at all
#2) This driver relies on the assumption that it sits behind an eoi
capable interrupt line. If the implementation of the underlying
chip changes from eoi to irq_eoi then this driver has to follow
that change and not add a total bogosity.
#3) Just mechanically changing eoi to irq_eoi without checking the
background of that change is sloppy at best.
Remove the sillyness and retrieve the interrupt data from irq_desc
directly. No need to go through a sparse irq lookup.

mpc23s17 is very similar to the mcp23s08, except that registers are 16bit
wide, so extend the interface to work with both variants.
The s17 variant also has an additional address pin, so adjust platform
data structure to support up to 8 devices per SPI chipselect.

pca953x_get_alt_pdata() uses uint16_t* as result type for
of_get_property(), but numeric of values are __be32.
Checking for negative values is bogus because of-property
values are unsigned by definition.
Instead check for proper property size.

irq_chip->irq_mask/unmask are called with interrupts disabled and
irq_desc->lock held. So we cannot access i2c from this context. That's
what irq_bus_sync_unlock() is for.
Store the masked information in the chip data structure and update the
i2c bus from the irq_bus_sync_unlock() callback.
This does not need a while(pending) loop because the update to this is
always serialized via the bus lock, so we never have more than one pin
update pending.

Add a mutex to register communication and handling. Without the mutex,
GPIOs didn't switch as expected when toggled in a fast sequence of
status changes of multiple outputs.

Commit a1f5f22adc ("gpio: timbgpio:
irq_data conversion") was slightly too enthusiastic in converting
timbgpio_irq() over to take an irq_data * argument instead of an
unsigned int irq argument, as it is a flow handler, which still take
IRQ numbers for now. (And on top of that, it was using the wrong
accessors.)
This fixes it up, and seems to build without warnings.

used for OKI SEMICONDUCTOR ML7213 IOH(Input/Output Hub) which is for

This adds (well, re-adds actually) handling for events/IRQs through cs5535
GPIOs. In the wild and wooly world of CS5535, setup_event() is for
assigning an IRQ to a GPIO filter/event pair, and set_irq() sets up the
pair to trigger IRQs.
These should really only be used in highly platform-specific drivers (such
as OLPC's DCON driver). Sadly, because set_irq() uses MSRs, this causes
the driver to become X86-specific.

The default for non-READ_BACK GPIO regs is to have the clear bits set;
this means that our original errata fix was too simplistic. This
changes it to the following behavior:
- when setting GPIOs, ignore the higher order bits (they're for
clearing, we don't need to care about them).
- when clearing GPIOs, keep all the bits, but unset (via XOR) the
lower order bit that negates the clear bit that we care about. That
is, if we're clearing GPIO 26 (val = 0x04000000), we first XOR what's
currently in the register with 0x0400 (GPIO 26's SET bit), and then
OR that with the GPIO 26's CLEAR bit.

The edge detect status GPIOs function differently from the other atomic
model CS5536 GPIO registers; writing 1 to the high bits clears the GPIO,
but writing 1 to the lower bits also clears the bit.
This means that read-modify-write doesn't actually work for it, so don't
apply the errata here. If a negative edge status gets lost after
resume.. well, we tried our best!

rdc321x-gpio currently fetches its driver specific data by using the
platform_device->platform_data pointer, this is wrong because the mfd
device which registers our platform_device has been added using
mfd_add_device() which sets the platform_device->driver_data pointer
instead.

The AMD Geode CS5536 Companion Device Silicon Revision B1 Specification
Update mentions the follow as issue #36:
"Atomic write transactions to the atomic GPIO High Bank Feature Bit
registers should only affect the bits selected [...]"
"after Suspend, an atomic write transaction [...] will clear all
non-selected bits of the accessed register."
In other words, writing to the high bank for a single GPIO bit will
clear every other GPIO bit (but only sometimes after a suspend).
The workaround described is obvious and simple; do a read-modify-write.
This patch does that, and documents why we're doing it.

GPIOs on these controller are multi-functional. If you decided to use
some of them e.g. as input channels for the ADC, you surely don't want
those pins to be reassigned as simple GPIOs (which may be triggered even
from userspace via 'export'). Same for the touchscreen controller pins.
Since knowledge about the hardware is needed to decide which GPIOs to
reserve, let this bitmask be inside platform_data and provide some
defines to assist potential users.

Topcliff PCH is the platform controller hub that is going to be used in
Intel's upcoming general embedded platform. All IO peripherals in
Topcliff PCH are actually devices sitting on AMBA bus. Topcliff PCH has
GPIO I/F. Using this I/F, it is able to access system devices connected
to GPIO.

Implement irq_chip functionality on ADP5588/5587 GPIO expanders. Only
level sensitive interrupts are supported. Interrupts provided by this

Some versions of the hardware can trash the IER register if simultaneous
interrupts occur. This patch works around it by using a local copy of the
register and restoring it after every interrupt.

The basic GPIO controllers may be found in various on-board FPGA and ASIC
solutions that are used to control board's switches, LEDs, chip-selects,
Ethernet/USB PHY power, etc.
These controllers may not provide any means of pin setup
(in/out/open drain).
The driver supports:
- 8/16/32/64 bits registers;
- GPIO controllers with clear/set registers;
- GPIO controllers with a single "data" register;
- Big endian bits/GPIOs ordering (mostly used on PowerPC).

Our Moorestown platform has two max7315 chips which is covered by pca953x
i2c gpio driver.
A while ago this driver got updated with nested irq thread support, and it
broke the compatibity with "request_irq". For example, the gpio_keys.c
driver can not work with this driver now. This patch fixes the issue by
switching to generic_handle_irq.
Also fix the irq_base issue: irq_base == 0 is valid, and a "-1" value
should mean invalid. IRQ 0 is not a valid IRQ, irq_base of 0 is valid.

Replace the arbitrary software-reset call from the device-probe
method, because:
- It is defective. To work correctly, it should be two byte writes,
not a single word write. As it stands, it does nothing.
- Some devices with sx150x expanders installed have their NRESET pins
ganged on the same line, so resetting one causes the others to reset -
not a nice thing to do arbitrarily!
- The probe, usually taking place at boot, implies a recent hard-reset,
so a software reset at this point is just a waste of energy anyway.
Therefore, make it optional, defaulting to off, as this will match the
common case of probing at powerup and also matches the current broken
no-op behavior.

The pca953x driver requires the use of threaded irqs as its irq
demultiplexer can sleep. Our irq handler can be called from any context,
so use request_any_context_irq to allow threaded irqs as well.

As sysfs_notify_dirent has been made irq safe, there is no reason to not
call it directly from irq. With the work_struct removed, the remaining
element in poll_desc is a sysfs_dirent pointer which may not be NULL. We
can therefore store it directly in the idr and pass it as context to the
irq handler.
Most part of the patch deals with renaming defines and variables to
reflect their new use without functional change.
I also took the opportunity to initialize the idr statically.

The gpios on the max730x chips have support for internal pullups while in
input mode.
This patch adds support for configuring these pullups via platform data.
A new member ("input_pullup_active") to the platform data struct is
introduced. A set bit in this variable activates the pullups while the
respective port is in input mode. This is a compatible enhancement since
unset bits lead to disables pullups which was the default in the original
driver.
_Note_: the 4 lowest bits in "input_pullup_active" are unused because the
first 4 ports of the controller are not used, too.

Fix up trivial conflicts in arch/microblaze/kernel/Makefile due to just

Implement generic OF gpio hooks and thus make device-enabled GPIO chips
(i.e. the ones that have gpio_chip->dev specified) automatically attach
to the OpenFirmware subsystem. Which means that now we can handle I2C and
SPI GPIO chips almost* transparently.
* "Almost" because some chips still require platform data, and for these
chips OF-glue is still needed, though with this change the glue will
be much smaller.

Currently the kernel uses the struct device_node.data pointer to resolve
a struct gpio_chip pointer from a device tree node. However, the .data
member doesn't provide any type checking and there aren't any rules
enforced on what it should be used for. There's no guarantee that the
data stored in it actually points to an gpio_chip pointer.
Instead of relying on the .data pointer, this patch modifies the code
to add a lookup function which scans through the registered gpio_chips
and returns the gpio_chip that has a pointer to the specified
device_node.

The OF gpio infrastructure is great for describing GPIO connections within
the device tree. However, using a GPIO binding still requires changes to
the gpio controller just to add an of_gpio structure. In most cases, the
gpio controller doesn't actually need any special support and the simple
OF gpio mapping function is more than sufficient. Additional, the current
scheme of using of_gpio_chip requires a convoluted scheme to maintain
1:1 mappings between of_gpio_chip and gpio_chip instances.
If the struct of_gpio_chip data members were moved into struct gpio_chip,
then it would simplify the processing of OF gpio bindings, and it would
make it trivial to use device tree OF connections on existing gpiolib
controller drivers.
This patch eliminates the of_gpio_chip structure and moves the relevant
fields into struct gpio_chip (conditional on CONFIG_OF_GPIO). This move
simplifies the existing code and prepares for adding automatic device tree
support to existing drivers.

The rdc321x southbridge PCI device has no MEM PCI resources that we could
pass to mfd_add_devices. Since 33254dd5, mfd_add_device checks for the
mem_base argument that we set to NULL. Changing the resources passed to
our MFD cells from IORESOURCE_MEM to IORESOURCE_IO fixes that. Since we use
those resources as offsets to the PCI configuration space base address of
the southbridge device this is also more adequate.

The Janz VMOD-TTL is a MODULbus daughterboard which fits onto any MODULbus
carrier board. It essentially consists of some various logic and a Zilog
Z8536 CIO Counter/Timer and Parallel IO Unit.
The board must be physically configured with jumpers to enable a user to
drive output signals. I am only interested in outputs, so I have made this
driver as simple as possible. It only supports a very minimal subset of the
features provided by the Z8536 chip.

Intel Penwell chip has two 96 pins GPIO blocks, which are very similiar as
Intel Langwell chip GPIO block, except for pin number difference. This
patch expends the original Langwell GPIO driver to support Penwell's.

A few architectures, like OMAP, allow you to set a debouncing time for the
gpio before generating the IRQ. Teach gpiolib about that.

Fix a bug I noticed while hacking on the max732x driver for interrupt
support. According to the datasheets, open-drain pins have to be
configured as output-high (which in that case is actually high impedance)
to be used as input.

The problem. When implementing a network namespace I need to be able
to have multiple network devices with the same name. Currently this
is a problem for /sys/class/net/*, /sys/devices/virtual/net/*, and
potentially a few other directories of the form /sys/ ... /net/*.
What this patch does is to add an additional tag field to the
sysfs dirent structure. For directories that should show different
contents depending on the context such as /sys/class/net/, and
/sys/devices/virtual/net/ this tag field is used to specify the
context in which those directories should be visible. Effectively
this is the same as creating multiple distinct directories with
the same name but internally to sysfs the result is nicer.
I am calling the concept of a single directory that looks like multiple
directories all at the same path in the filesystem tagged directories.
For the networking namespace the set of directories whose contents I need
to filter with tags can depend on the presence or absence of hotplug
hardware or which modules are currently loaded. Which means I need
a simple race free way to setup those directories as tagged.
To achieve a reace free design all tagged directories are created
and managed by sysfs itself.
Users of this interface:
- define a type in the sysfs_tag_type enumeration.
- call sysfs_register_ns_types with the type and it's operations
- sysfs_exit_ns when an individual tag is no longer valid
- Implement mount_ns() which returns the ns of the calling process
so we can attach it to a sysfs superblock.
- Implement ktype.namespace() which returns the ns of a syfs kobject.
Everything else is left up to sysfs and the driver layer.
For the network namespace mount_ns and namespace() are essentially
one line functions, and look to remain that.
Tags are currently represented a const void * pointers as that is
both generic, prevides enough information for equality comparisons,
and is trivial to create for current users, as it is just the
existing namespace pointer.
The work needed in sysfs is more extensive. At each directory
or symlink creating I need to check if the directory it is being
created in is a tagged directory and if so generate the appropriate
tag to place on the sysfs_dirent. Likewise at each symlink or
directory removal I need to check if the sysfs directory it is
being removed from is a tagged directory and if so figure out
which tag goes along with the name I am deleting.
Currently only directories which hold kobjects, and
symlinks are supported. There is not enough information
in the current file attribute interfaces to give us anything
to discriminate on which makes it useless, and there are
no potential users which makes it an uninteresting problem
to solve.

Smatch found a potential null dereference in gpio_setup_irq(). The
"pdesc" variable is allocated with idr_find() that can return NULL. If
gpio_setup_irq() is called with 0 as gpio_flags and "pdesc" is null, it
would OOPs here.

Bill Gatliff reported the following bug when using the irq_chip facility
of the pca953x driver on a PPC platform:
BUG: scheduling while atomic: insmod/1530/0x00000002
He traced it back to an i2c transaction in pca953x_irq_set_type(), which
can be called with interrupt disabled (from __setup_irq()). As the i2c
controller can sleep while sending a message, this qualifies as a bad
idea.
This patch moves the i2c transaction to pca953x_irq_bus_sync_unlock(),
where it is actually safe to send an i2c message.

PL061 driver is using set_irq_chip_data and get_irq_chip_data for real
irq lines. It must be using *_irq_data functions instead. As chip_data
is used by interrupt controllers also, which makes vic write at incorrect
addresses.

percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.
percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

The script does the followings.
* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.
* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.
* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
file.
The conversion was done in the following steps.
1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
files.
2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
inclusions to around 150 files.
3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.
4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.
5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
necessary.
6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.
7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).
* x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
* powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
* sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
* ia64 SMP allmodconfig
* s390 SMP allmodconfig
* alpha SMP allmodconfig
* um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig
8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.
Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

Passing the attribute to the low level IO functions allows all kinds
of cleanups, by sharing low level IO code without requiring
an own function for every piece of data.
Also drivers can extend the attributes with own data fields
and use that in the low level function.
This makes the class attributes the same as sysdev_class attributes
and plain attributes.
This will allow further cleanups in drivers.

LPC_SCH is selected by GPI_SCH and I2C_ISCH, even when PCI is not
enabled, but LPC_SCH depends on PCI, so make GPI_SCH and I2C_ISCH
also depend on PCI.
Those 2 selects also need to select what LPC_SCH selects,
since kconfig does not follow selects.

Revision B of the WM831x devices changes the sense of the tristate
bit for GPIO configuration, inverting it to become an enable instead.
Take account of this in the gpiolib driver.
A current sink regulation status bit has also been added in revision B,

The cs5535-gpio driver's get() function was returning the output value.
This means that the GPIO pins would never work as an input, even if
configured as an input.
The driver should return the READ_BACK value, which is the sensed line
value. To make that work when the direction is 'output', INPUT_ENABLE
needs to be set.
In addition, the driver was not disabling OUTPUT_ENABLE when the direction
is set to 'input'. That would cause the GPIO to continue to drive the pin
if the direction was ever set to output.
This issue was noticed when attempting to use the gpiolib driver to read
an external input. I had previously been using the char/cs5535-gpio
driver.

Most of the GPIO expanders controlled by the pca953x driver are able to
report changes on the input pins through an *INT pin.
This patch implements the irq_chip functionality (edge detection only).
The driver has been tested on an Arcom Zeus.

Introduce support for triggering interrupts on both rising and falling
edge.
This feature requires version 3 or newer of the IP, a version check is

useless, introduce gpio_request_one() together with GPIOF_ flags for
input/output direction and initial output level.

Add the MAX7300-I2C variant of the MAX7301-SPI version. Both chips share
the same core logic, so the generic part of the in-kernel SPI-driver is
refactored into a generic part. The I2C and SPI specific funtions are
then wrapped into seperate drivers picking up the generic part.

Rename for_each_bit to for_each_set_bit in the kernel source tree. To
permit for_each_clear_bit(), should that ever be added.
The patch includes a macro to map the old for_each_bit() onto the new
for_each_set_bit(). This is a (very) temporary thing to ease the migration.

Previously enabled poll(2) support on one edge was never reconfigured when
sysfs polarity change was triggered from kernel, because 'struct device
*dev' shadowed an earlier definition.

Drivers may use gpiolib sysfs as part of their public user space
interface. The GPIO number and polarity might change from board to
board. The gpio_export_link() call can be used to hide the GPIO number
from user space. Add support for also hiding the GPIO line polarity
changes from user space.

This creates a CS5535/CS5536 GPIO driver which uses a gpio_chip backend
(allowing GPIO users to use the generic GPIO API if desired) while also
allowing architecture-specific users directly (via the cs5535_gpio_*
functions).
Tested on an OLPC machine. Some Leemotes also use CS5536 (with a mips
cpu), which is why this is in drivers/gpio rather than arch/x86.
Currently, it conflicts with older geode GPIO support; once MFGPT support
is reworked to also be more generic, the older geode code will be removed.

The upcoming TWL6030 is companion chip for OMAP4 like the current TWL4030
for OMAP3. The common modules like RTC, Regulator creates opportunity
to re-use the most of the code from twl4030.
This patch renames few common drivers twl4030* files to twl* to enable
the code re-use.

In case of failure, device_create() returns not NULL but the error code.
The current code checks for non-NULL though which causes kernel oops in
sysfs_create_group() when device_create() fails. Check for error using
IS_ERR() and propagate the error value using PTR_ERR() instead of fixed
-ENODEV code returned now...

The gpio_twl4030_probe() function calls gpio_twl4030_remove(), and the
former has __devinit, so the latter cannot use __devexit. Otherwise we
hit the section mismatch warning:

The function __devinit _gpio_twl4030_probe() references a function
__devexit _gpio_twl4030_remove().
This is often seen when error handling in the init function uses
functionality in the exit path.
The fix is often to remove the __devexit annotation of
_gpio_twl4030_remove() so it may be used outside an exit section.

Many gpio chips allow to generate interrupts when the value of a pin
changes. This patch gives usermode application the opportunity to make
use of this feature by calling poll(2) on the /sys/class/gpio/gpioN/value
sysfs file. The edge to trigger can be set in the edge file in the same
directory. Possible values are "none", "rising", "falling", and "both".
Using level triggers is not possible with current sysfs since nothing
changes the GPIO value (and the IRQ keeps triggering). Edge triggering
will "just work". Note that if there was an event between read() and
poll(), the poll() returns immediately.
Also note that this version only supports true GPIO interrupts. Some
later patch might be able to synthesize this behavior by timer-driven
polling; some systems seem to need that.

The Langwell chip is the IO hub for Intel Moorestown platform which has a
64-pin gpio block device inside. It is exposed as a dedicated PCI device.
We use it to control outside peripheral as well as to do IRQ demuxing.
The gpio block uses MSI to send level type interrupt to IOAPIC.

Commit 926b663ce8 (gpiolib: allow GPIOs to
be named) already provides naming on the chip level. This patch provides
more flexibility by allowing multiple names where ever in sysfs on a per
GPIO basis.

Add support for the GPIO pins on the WM831x. No direct support is
currently supplied for configuring non-gpiolib functionality such
as pull configuration and alternate functions, soft configuration
of these will be provided in a future patch.
Currently use of these pins as interrupts is not supported due to
the ongoing issues with generic irq not support interrupt controllers
on interrupt driven buses. Users can directly request the interrupts
with the wm831x-specific APIs currently provided if required.

On OpenFirmware platforms, it makes the most sense to get platform_data
from the device tree. Make an attempt to translate OF node properties
into platform_data struct before bailing out.
Note that the implementation approach taken differs from other device
drivers that make use of device tree information. This is because I2C
chips are already registered automatically by of_i2c, so we can get by
with a small translator function in the driver.

We want to phase out the GPIO "autorequest" mechanism in gpiolib and
require all callers to use gpio_request().
- Update feature-removal-schedule
- Update the documentation now
- Convert the relevant pr_warning() in gpiolib to a WARN()
so folk using this mechanism get a noisy stack dump
Some drivers and board init code will probably need to change.
Implementations not using gpiolib will still be fine; they are already
required to implement gpio_{request,free}() stubs.

Allow GPIOs in GPIOLIB chips to be named. This name is then used when the
GPIO is exported to sysfs, although it could be used elsewhere if deemed
useful.

A number of drivers in drivers/gpio return -ENODEV when confronted with
missing setup parameters such as the platform data. However, returning
-ENODEV causes the driver layer to silently ignore the driver as it
assumes the probe did not find anything and was only speculative.
To make life easier to discern why a driver is not being attached, change
to returning -EINVAL, which is a better description of the fact that the
driver data was not valid.
Also add a set of dev_dbg() statements to the error paths to provide an
better explanation of the error as there may be more that one point in the
driver.

Provide a static debounce configuration mechanism for twl4030 GPIOs,
replacing the previous dynamic one. The single user of that mechanism was
for MMC card detect debouncing.
Boards can provide a bitmask saying which GPIOs to debounce (30 msec).
It's always enabled for pins with the MMC card-detect/VMMCx link active,
so most boards won't need to set the debounce mask.
This is a net code shrink, including runtime footprint.

There are already various drivers having bigger label than 12 bytes. Most
of them fit well under 20 bytes but make column width exact so that
oversized labels don't mess up output alignment.

This adds basic support for the GPIOs in the twl4030 power management
chip. That includes two open drain LED drivers, and the use of GPIO-0
(and GPIO-1) as MMC/SD card detect switches which can control whether
the VMMC1 (and VMMC2) regulators are active.
This version of the code has a debounce call that will probably be
replaced before long, when a more generic interface exists.

This merges branches irq/genirq, irq/sparseirq-v4, timers/hpet-percpu
and x86/uv.
The sparseirq branch is just preliminary groundwork: no sparse IRQs are
actually implemented by this tree anymore - just the new APIs are added
while keeping the old way intact as well (the new APIs map 1:1 to
irq_desc[]). The 'real' sparse IRQ support will then be a relatively
small patch ontop of this - with a v2.6.29 merge target.

It's OK to request the value of *any* GPIO; most GPIOs are bidirectional,
so configuring them as outputs just enables an output driver and doesn't
disable the input logic.
So the problem is that gpio_get_value_cansleep() isn't making the same
sanity check that gpio_get_value() does: making sure this GPIO isn't one
of the atypical "no input logic" cases.

gpiolib can export GPIOs to userspace via sysfs. This patch modifies the
gpio_value_show() so that any non-zero value is explicitly printed as "1",
rather than whatever numerical value the lower-level driver returns.

Add a new internal mechanism to gpiolib to support low power
operations by letting gpio_chip instances see when their GPIOs
are in use. When no GPIOs are active, chips may be able to
enter lower powered runtime states by disabling clocks and/or
power domains.

Add a new gpiolib mechanism: gpio_chip instances can provide mappings
between their (input) GPIOs and any associated IRQs. This makes it easier
for platforms to support IRQs that are provided by board-specific external
chips instead of as part of their core (such as SOC-integrated GPIOs).
Also update the irq_to_gpio() description, saying to avoid it because it's
not always supported.

Make the I2C external GPIO expander drivers register themselves at
subsys_initcall() time when they're statically linked.
SOC-integrated GPIOs are available starting very early -- early in
arch_initcall() at latest, but often even before initcalls start to run --
so this improves consistency, so more subsystems can rely on GPIOs in
their own subsys_initcall() code.
(This isn't a theoretical problem. This is one of several patches needed
to resolve oopsing observed when statically linking kernels on a DaVinci
EVM. Its pcf857x GPIOs needed to be available well before some other
drivers initialized.)

According to the documentation gpio_free should only be called from task
context only. To make this more explicit add a might sleep to all
implementations.

There is a small race and code ugliness in max7301: pins are reconfigured
after the chip is registered. Swap these calls so that the device is
registered in correct state.
Also this fixes the comile-time warning about unchecked gpiochip_remove.

Get rid of irq_desc[] array assumptions.
Preallocate 32 irq_desc, and irq_desc() will try to get more.
( No change in functionality is expected anywhere, except the odd build
failure where we missed a code site or where a crossing commit itroduces

This patch adds functionality to the gpio-lib subsystem to make it
possible to enable the gpio-lib code even if the architecture code didn't
request to get it built in.
The archtitecture code does still need to implement the gpiolib accessor
functions in its asm/gpio.h file. This patch adds the implementations for
x86 and PPC.
With these changes it is possible to run generic GPIO expansion cards on
every architecture that implements the trivial wrapper functions. Support
for more architectures can easily be added.

This adds the bt8xxgpio driver. The purpose of the bt8xxgpio driver is to
export all of the 24 GPIO pins available on Brooktree 8xx chips to the
kernel GPIO infrastructure.
This makes it possible to use a physically modified BT8xx card as
cheap digital GPIO card.

Teach the mcp23s08 driver about a curious feature of these chips: up to
four of them can share the same chipselect, with the SPI signals wired in
parallel, by matching two bits in the first protocol byte against two
address lines on the chip.
This is handled by three software changes:
* Platform data now holds an array of per-chip structs, not
just one chip's address and pullup configuration.
* Probe() and remove() now use another level of structure,
wrapping an instance of the original structure for each
mcp23s08 chip sharing that chipselect.
* The HAEN bit is set, so that the hardware address bits can no
longer be ignored (boot firmware may not have enabled them).
The "one struct per chip" preserves the guts of the current code,
but platform_data will need minor changes.

There's no change in how things _behave_ for spi_device nodes with a
single mcp23s08 chip. New multi-chip configurations assign GPIOs in
sequence, without holes. The spi_device just resembles a bigger
controller, but internally it has multiple gpio_chip instances.

This adds a simple sysfs interface for GPIOs.
/sys/class/gpio
/export ... asks the kernel to export a GPIO to userspace
/unexport ... to return a GPIO to the kernel
/gpioN ... for each exported GPIO #N
/value ... always readable, writes fail for input GPIOs
/direction ... r/w as: in, out (default low); write high, low
/gpiochipN ... for each gpiochip; #N is its first GPIO
/base ... (r/o) same as N
/label ... (r/o) descriptive, not necessarily unique
/ngpio ... (r/o) number of GPIOs; numbered N .. N+(ngpio - 1)
GPIOs claimed by kernel code may be exported by its owner using a new
gpio_export() call, which should be most useful for driver debugging.
Such exports may optionally be done without a "direction" attribute.
Userspace may ask to take over a GPIO by writing to a sysfs control file,
helping to cope with incomplete board support or other "one-off"
requirements that don't merit full kernel support:
echo 23 > /sys/class/gpio/export
... will gpio_request(23, "sysfs") and gpio_export(23);
use /sys/class/gpio/gpio-23/direction to (re)configure it,
when that GPIO can be used as both input and output.
echo 23 > /sys/class/gpio/unexport
... will gpio_free(23), when it was exported as above
The extra D-space footprint is a few hundred bytes, except for the sysfs
resources associated with each exported GPIO. The additional I-space
footprint is about two thirds of the current size of gpiolib (!). Since
no /dev node creation is involved, no "udev" support is needed.
Related changes:
* This adds a device pointer to "struct gpio_chip". When GPIO
providers initialize that, sysfs gpio class devices become children of
that device instead of being "virtual" devices.
* The (few) gpio_chip providers which have such a device node have
been updated.
* Some gpio_chip drivers also needed to update their module "owner"
field ... for which missing kerneldoc was added.
* Some gpio_chips don't support input GPIOs. Those GPIOs are now
flagged appropriately when the chip is registered.
Based on previous patches, and discussion both on and off LKML.
A Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-gpio update is ready to submit once this
merges to mainline.

Two small updates to the pcf857x driver: (a) the max732[89] chips are
also second sources for the pcf8574/a, and (b) add a mutex to prevent
trashing the cached state. Adding the lock is effectively a bugfix,
although it seems unlikely that anyone would have run into the issue it
protects against.

Update most new-style i2c drivers to use standard module aliasing
instead of the old driver_name/type driver matching scheme. I've
left the video drivers apart (except for SoC camera drivers) as
they're a bit more diffcult to deal with, they'll have their own
patch later.

This patch allows new-style i2c chip drivers to have alias names using
the official kernel aliasing system and MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE(). At this
point, the old i2c driver binding scheme (driver_name/type) is still
supported.

Add a new function gpiochip_reserve() to reserve ranges of gpios that platform
code has pre-allocated. That is, this marks gpio numbers which will be
claimed by drivers that haven't yet been loaded, and thus are not available
for dynamic gpio number allocation.

If gpio_chip->base is negative during registration, gpiolib performs dynamic
base allocation. This is useful for devices that aren't always present, such
as GPIOs on hotplugged devices rather than mainboards. (This behavior was
previously specified but not implemented.)
To avoid using any numbers that may have been explicitly assigned but not yet
registered, this dynamic allocation assigns GPIO numbers from the biggest
number on down, instead of from the smallest on up.

current (small) set of non-SOC GPIO drivers from being unloaded while any of
their GPIOs are in use.

As long as one or more GPIOs on a gpio chip are used its driver should not be
unloaded. The existing mechanism (gpiochip_remove failure) doesn't address
that, since rmmod can no longer be made to fail by having the cleanup code
report errors. Module usecounts are the solution.
Assuming standard "initialize struct to zero" policies, this change won't
affect SOC platform drivers. However, drivers for external chips (on I2C and
SPI busses) should be updated if they can be built as modules.

The pca953x driver is an I2C driver so gpio_chip->can_sleep should be set.
This lets upper layers know they should use the gpio_*_cansleep() calls to
access values, and may not access them from nonsleeping contexts.

This third part of an extension to support more pca953x chips updates the
logic to handle the smaller register widths used by the 4-bit and 8-bit parts,
and to use the chip type to determine how many GPIOs it provides.
As long as we don't support interrupt and reset capabilities, those size
issues are the only software-visible differences between these parts.

This adds a new-style I2C driver with basic support for the sixteen bit
PCA9539 GPIO expanders. These chips have multiple registers, push-pull output
drivers, and (not supported in this patch) pin change interrupts.
Board-specific code must provide "pca9539_platform_data" with each chip's
"i2c_board_info". That provides the GPIO numbers to be used by that chip, and
callbacks for board-specific setup/teardown logic.
Derived from drivers/i2c/chips/pca9539.c (which has no current known users).
This is faster and simpler; it uses 16-bit register access, and cache the
OUTPUT and DIRECTION registers for fast access

This is a new-style I2C driver for most common 8 and 16 bit I2C based
"quasi-bidirectional" GPIO expanders: pcf8574 or pcf8575, and several
compatible models (mostly faster, supporting I2C at up to 1 MHz).
The driver exposes the GPIO signals using the platform-neutral GPIO
programming interface, so they are easily accessed by other kernel code. The
lack of such a flexible kernel API has been a big factor in the proliferation
of board-specific drivers for these chips... stuff that rarely makes it
upstream since it's so ugly. This driver will let such boards use standard
calls.
Since it's a new-style driver, these devices must be configured as part of
board-specific init. That eliminates the need for error-prone manual
configuration of module parameters, and makes compatibility with legacy
drivers (pcf8574.c, pc8575.c) for these chips easier (there's a clear
either/or disjunction).

Provide new implementation infrastructure that platforms may choose to use
when implementing the GPIO programming interface. Platforms can update their
GPIO support to use this. In many cases the incremental cost to access a
non-inlined GPIO should be less than a dozen instructions, with the memory
cost being about a page (total) of extra data and code. The upside is:
* Providing two features which were "want to have (but OK to defer)" when
GPIO interfaces were first discussed in November 2006:
- A "struct gpio_chip" to plug in GPIOs that aren't directly supported
by SOC platforms, but come from FPGAs or other multifunction devices
using conventional device registers (like UCB-1x00 or SM501 GPIOs,
and southbridges in PCs with more open specs than usual).
- Full support for message-based GPIO expanders, where registers are
accessed through sleeping I/O calls. Previous support for these
"cansleep" calls was just stubs. (One example: the widely used
pcf8574 I2C chips, with 8 GPIOs each.)
* Including a non-stub implementation of the gpio_{request,free}() calls,
making those calls much more useful. The diagnostic labels are also
recorded given DEBUG_FS, so /sys/kernel/debug/gpio can show a snapshot
of all GPIOs known to this infrastructure.
The driver programming interfaces introduced in 2.6.21 do not change at all;
this infrastructure is entirely below those covers.

Add an empty drivers/gpio directory for gpiolib infrastructure and GPIO
expanders. It will be populated by later patches.
This won't be the only place to hold such gpio_chip code. Many external chips
add a few GPIOs as secondary functionality (such as MFD drivers) and platform
code frequently needs to closely integrate GPIO and IRQ support.
This is placed *early* in the build/link sequence since it's common for other
drivers to depend on GPIOs to do their work, so they must be initialized early
in the device_initcall() sequence.
