Add a keyctl to install a process's session keyring onto its parent. This
replaces the parent's session keyring. Because the COW credential code does
not permit one process to change another process's credentials directly, the
change is deferred until userspace next starts executing again. Normally this
will be after a wait*() syscall.
To support this, three new security hooks have been provided:
cred_alloc_blank() to allocate unset security creds, cred_transfer() to fill in
the blank security creds and key_session_to_parent() - which asks the LSM if
the process may replace its parent's session keyring.
The replacement may only happen if the process has the same ownership details
as its parent, and the process has LINK permission on the session keyring, and
the session keyring is owned by the process, and the LSM permits it.
Note that this requires alteration to each architecture's notify_resume path.
This has been done for all arches barring blackfin, m68k* and xtensa, all of
which need assembly alteration to support TIF_NOTIFY_RESUME. This allows the
replacement to be performed at the point the parent process resumes userspace
execution.
This allows the userspace AFS pioctl emulation to fully emulate newpag() and
the VIOCSETTOK and VIOCSETTOK2 pioctls, all of which require the ability to
alter the parent process's PAG membership. However, since kAFS doesn't use
PAGs per se, but rather dumps the keys into the session keyring, the session
keyring of the parent must be replaced if, for example, VIOCSETTOK is passed
the newpag flag.
This can be tested with the following program:

Implement TIF_NOTIFY_RESUME for most of those architectures in which isn't yet
available, and, whilst we're at it, have it call the appropriate tracehook.
After this patch, blackfin, m68k* and xtensa still lack support and need
alteration of assembly code to make it work.
Resume notification can then be used (by a later patch) to install a new
session keyring on the parent of a process.

at32ap_spi_setup_slaves() is exposed to allow the addition of SPI slaves
to a SPI bus that has already been registered. This is especially
useful for add-on cards, which have their own board setup function.
at32ap_spi_add_device() has been slightly re-organized, but should be
transparent to existing users.
So to add a SPI slave, after a SPI bus has already been registered:

This sockopt goes in line with SO_TYPE and SO_PROTOCOL. It makes it
possible for userspace programs to pass around file descriptors — I
am referring to arguments-to-functions, but it may even work for the
fd passing over UNIX sockets — without needing to also pass the
auxiliary information (PF_INET6/IPPROTO_TCP).

Similar to SO_TYPE returning the socket type, SO_PROTOCOL allows to
retrieve the protocol used with a given socket.
I am not quite sure why we have that-many copies of socket.h, and why
the values are not the same on all arches either, but for where hex
numbers dominate, I use 0x1029 for SO_PROTOCOL as that seems to be
the next free unused number across a bunch of operating systems, or
so Google results make me want to believe. SO_PROTOCOL for others
just uses the next free Linux number, 38.

mm: Pass virtual address to [__]p{te,ud,md}_free_tlb()
Upcoming paches to support the new 64-bit "BookE" powerpc architecture
will need to have the virtual address corresponding to PTE page when
freeing it, due to the way the HW table walker works.
Basically, the TLB can be loaded with "large" pages that cover the whole
virtual space (well, sort-of, half of it actually) represented by a PTE
page, and which contain an "indirect" bit indicating that this TLB entry
RPN points to an array of PTEs from which the TLB can then create direct
entries. Thus, in order to invalidate those when PTE pages are deleted,
we need the virtual address to pass to tlbilx or tlbivax instructions.
The old trick of sticking it somewhere in the PTE page struct page sucks
too much, the address is almost readily available in all call sites and
almost everybody implemets these as macros, so we may as well add the
argument everywhere. I added it to the pmd and pud variants for consistency.

The ezLCD+101 board (to which an favr-32 is fitted) has a long,
unshielded, nasty lead between the touch panel and the ads7843 touch
controller. In order to get satisfactory response then, we need to
employ every noise-reduction trick in the driver's arsenal. After
extensive fiddling I've found some good settings:
1) We keep vref on all the time to dramatically reduce settling times
(at the cost of a tiny increase in power consumption).
2) Despite 1 the settling time is still non-zero. 500uS is plenty of
time for the signals to settle
3) Despite 1 and 2 there's still a little bit of noise around. By
setting a pen recheck delay we make the panel feel less touchy and
twitchy.
Someone with more time and patience myself might be able to tune this
numbers further but these settings are now perfectly acceptable for
normal use.
Tested on ezLCD+101 though should only improve response on other ezLCD+/
favr-32 boards too.

memcpy(p, unaligned, 4..) returns (p + num_of_unaligned_by_copied)
instead of p because p is not preserved in the unaligned case.
Noticed by Herbert Xu's superior parameter recycling coding technique
which let the md4 self-test fail on avr32.

Pull the initial preempt_count value into a single
definition site.
Maintainers for: alpha, ia64 and m68k, please have a look,
your arch code is funny.
The header magic is a bit odd, but similar to the KERNEL_DS
one, CPP waits with expanding these macros until the
INIT_THREAD_INFO macro itself is expanded, which is in
arch/*/kernel/init_task.c where we've already included
sched.h so we're good.

Discarded sections in different archs share some commonality but have
considerable differences. This led to linker script for each arch
implementing its own /DISCARD/ definition, which makes maintaining
tedious and adding new entries error-prone.
This patch makes all linker scripts to move discard definitions to the
end of the linker script and use the common DISCARDS macro. As ld
uses the first matching section definition, archs can include default
discarded sections by including them earlier in the linker script.
ia64 is notable because it first throws away some ia64 specific
subsections and then include the rest of the sections into the final
image, so those sections must be discarded before the inclusion.
defconfig compile tested for x86, x86-64, powerpc, powerpc64, ia64,
alpha, sparc, sparc64 and s390. Michal Simek tested microblaze.

Commit 5fd29d6ccb ("printk: clean up
handling of log-levels and newlines") changed printk semantics. printk
lines with multiple KERN_<level> prefixes are no longer emitted as
before the patch.
<level> is now included in the output on each additional use.
Remove all uses of multiple KERN_<level>s in formats.

x86 throws away .discard section but no other archs do. Also,
.discard is not thrown away while linking modules. Make every arch
and module linking throw it away. This will be used to define dummy
variables for percpu declarations and definitions.
This patch is based on Ivan Kokshaysky's alpha percpu patch.

This allows the callers to now pass down the full set of FAULT_FLAG_xyz
flags to handle_mm_fault(). All callers have been (mechanically)
converted to the new calling convention, there's almost certainly room
for architectures to clean up their code and then add FAULT_FLAG_RETRY
when that support is added.

The unaligned address exception handler (and others) does not scan the
fixup tables before oopsing. This is bad because it means passing a
badly aligned pointer from user space might crash the kernel.
Fix this by scanning the fixup tables in _exception(). This should
resolve the issue for unaligned addresses as well as other less common
exceptions that might be happening during a userspace access. The page
fault handler already does fixup processing.

The existing asm-generic/atomic.h only defines the
atomic_long type. This renames it to atomic-long.h
so we have a place to add a truly generic atomic.h
that can be used on all non-SMP systems.

This provides a reliable way for asm-generic/types.h and other
files to find out if it is running on a 32 or 64 bit platform.
We cannot use CONFIG_64BIT for this in headers that are included
from user space because CONFIG symbols are not available there.
We also cannot do it inside of asm/types.h because some headers
need the word size but cannot include types.h.
The solution is to introduce a new header <asm/bitsperlong.h>
that defines both __BITS_PER_LONG for user space and
BITS_PER_LONG for usage in the kernel. The asm-generic
version falls back to 32 bit unless the architecture overrides
it, which I did for all 64 bit platforms.

This patch updates the LCD init code for the MIMC200 board.
V2 fixes a .yres typo and corrects an incorrect setup value
in the call to at32_add_device_lcdc()
Without this patch, the lcd setup is wrong and won't display images
correctly (if at all !!)

At the moment ATMEL_USART_{RTS,CTS,CLK} have the values
1, 2 and 3 respectively. Given these are used in bitmasks,
trying to turn on the CLK line will in fact turn on the
RTS and CTS lines as well.
Change the value of ATMEL_USART_CLK to 4.

The defines and typedefs (hw_interrupt_type, no_irq_type, irq_desc_t) have
been kept around for migration reasons. After more than two years it's
time to remove them finally.
This patch cleans up one of the remaining users. When all such patches
hit mainline we can remove the defines and typedefs finally.
Impact: cleanup
Convert the last remaining users to struct irq_chip and remove the
define.

CONFIG_DEBUG_PAGEALLOC is now supported by x86, powerpc, sparc64, and
s390. This patch implements it for the rest of the architectures by
filling the pages with poison byte patterns after free_pages() and
verifying the poison patterns before alloc_pages().
This generic one cannot detect invalid page accesses immediately but
invalid read access may cause invalid dereference by poisoned memory and
invalid write access can be detected after a long delay.

This patch will adjust the setup the DMA controller for the AC97
Controller in the at32ap700x machine code. This setup matches the new
ALSA driver for the AC97C.
The struct ac97c_platform_data has been moved into its own header file
located in the sound include path.
Tested on ATSTK1006 + ATSTK1000.
This patch will setup the AC97 controller properly for the adjusted
machine code. Both EVKLCD10x and Hammerhead board has been updated.
Tested on EVKLCD10x, and copied to Hammerhead board.

The PB15 GPIO line is used to control the enable and disable signal for
the backlight regulator on EVKLCD10x boards. This patch hands the I/O
line over to the LCDC driver, which will control when to enable and
disable the backlight.

This patch corrects the 15-bit LCDC pin mask definitions to select the
five upper lines in each color byte from the LCDC data output. When
reducing the color depth the LCDC will start filling MSB and downwards.
Also only enable 5 bits per color as the define indicates.

The current definition of CALLER_ADDRx isn't suitable for all platforms.
E.g. for ARM __builtin_return_address(N) doesn't work for N > 0 and
AFAIK for powerpc there are no frame pointers needed to have a working
__builtin_return_address. This patch allows defining the CALLER_ADDRx
macros in <asm/ftrace.h> and let these take precedence.
Because now <asm/ftrace.h> is included unconditionally in
<linux/ftrace.h> all archs that don't already had this include get an
empty one for free.

Impact: cleaner and consistent bootmem wrapping
By setting CONFIG_HAVE_ARCH_BOOTMEM_NODE, archs can define
arch-specific wrappers for bootmem allocation. However, this is done
a bit strangely in that only the high level convenience macros can be
changed while lower level, but still exported, interface functions
can't be wrapped. This not only is messy but also leads to strange
situation where alloc_bootmem() does what the arch wants it to do but
the equivalent __alloc_bootmem() call doesn't although they should be
able to be used interchangeably.
This patch updates bootmem such that archs can override / wrap the
backend function - alloc_bootmem_core() instead of the highlevel
interface functions to allow simpler and consistent wrapping. Also,
HAVE_ARCH_BOOTMEM_NODE is renamed to HAVE_ARCH_BOOTMEM.

User space can request hardware and/or software time stamping.
Reporting of the result(s) via a new control message is enabled
separately for each field in the message because some of the
fields may require additional computation and thus cause overhead.
User space can tell the different kinds of time stamps apart
and choose what suits its needs.
When a TX timestamp operation is requested, the TX skb will be cloned
and the clone will be time stamped (in hardware or software) and added
to the socket error queue of the skb, if the skb has a socket
associated with it.
The actual TX timestamp will reach userspace as a RX timestamp on the
cloned packet. If timestamping is requested and no timestamping is
done in the device driver (potentially this may use hardware
timestamping), it will be done in software after the device's
start_hard_xmit routine.

To add a bit in the preempt_count to be set when in NMI context, we
found that some archs did not have enough bits to spare. This is
due to the hardirq_count being a mask that can hold NR_IRQS.
Some archs allow for over 16000 IRQs, and that would require a mask
of 14 bits. The sofitrq mask is 8 bits and the preempt disable mask
is also 8 bits. The PREEMP_ACTIVE bit is bit 30, and bit 31 would
make the preempt_count (which is type int) a negative number.
A negative preempt_count is a sign of failure.
Add them up 14+8+8+1+1 you get 32 bits. No room for the NMI bit.
But the hardirq_count is to track the number of nested IRQs, not
the number of total IRQs. This originally took the paranoid approach
of setting the max nesting to NR_IRQS. But when we have archs with
over 1000 IRQs, it is not practical to think they will ever all
nest on a single CPU. Not to mention that this would most definitely
cause a stack overflow.
This patch sets a max of 10 bits to be used for IRQ nesting.
I did a 'git grep HARDIRQ' to examine all users of HARDIRQ_BITS and
HARDIRQ_MASK, and found that making it a max of 10 would not hurt
anyone. I did find that the m68k expected it to be 8 bits, so
I allow for the archs to set the number to be less than 10.
I removed the setting of HARDIRQ_BITS from the archs that set it
to more than 10. This includes ALPHA, ia64 and avr32.
This will always allow room for the NMI bit, and if we need to allow
for NMI nesting, we have 4 bits to play with.

Now that all EEPROM drivers live in the same place, let's harmonize

Use .subsection to place fixups closer to their jump targets. This
increases the maximum size of the kernel before we get link errors
significantly.
The problem here is that we don't have a "call"-ish pseudo-instruction
to use instead of rjmp...we could add one, but that means we'll have to
wait for a new toolchain release, wait until we're fairly sure most
people are using it, etc...
As an added bonus, it should decrease the RAM footprint slightly,
though it might pollute the icache a bit more.

Replace handcoded rcall instructions with the call pseudo-instruction.
For kernels too far over 1MB the rcall instruction can't reach and
linking will fail. We already call the final linker with --relax which
converts call pseudo-instructions to the right things anyway.

While looking at reducing the amount of architecture namespace pollution
in the generic kernel, I found that asm/irq.h is included in the vast
majority of compilations on ARM (around 650 files.)
Since asm/irq.h includes a sub-architecture include file on ARM, this
causes a negative impact on the ccache's ability to re-use the build
results from other sub-architectures, so we have a desire to reduce the
dependencies on asm/irq.h.
It turns out that a major cause of this is the needless include of
linux/hardirq.h into asm-generic/local.h. The patch below removes this
include, resulting in some 250 to 300 files (around half) of the kernel
then omitting asm/irq.h.
My test builds still succeed, provided two ARM files are fixed
(arch/arm/kernel/traps.c and arch/arm/mm/fault.c) - so there may be
negative impacts for this on other architectures.
Note that x86 does not include asm/irq.h nor linux/hardirq.h in its
asm/local.h, so this patch can be viewed as bringing the generic version
into line with the x86 version.

In the defconfigs for ATNGW100 and ATSTK100[236] the DMA Test driver is
compiled as a module. This means systems built with *_defconfig +
CONFIG_MODULES=n are unusable as the 3 dma test channels monopolise the
CPU.
I 'spose Haavard uses this module a lot but IMO it isn't really
something needed on all eval boards by default.

The Hammerhead platform is built around a AVR32 32-bit microcontroller
from Atmel. It offers versatile peripherals, such as ethernet, usb
device, usb host etc.
The board also incooperates a power supply and is a Power over Ethernet
(PoE) Powered Device (PD).
Additonally, a Cyclone III FPGA from Altera is integrated on the board.
The FPGA is mapped into the 32-bit AVR memory bus. The FPGA offers two
DDR2 SDRAM interfaces, which will cover even the most exceptional need
of memory bandwidth. Together with the onboard video decoder the board
is ready for video processing.
This patch does include the basic support for the fpga device driver,
but not the device driver itself.

This allows to reserve multiple pins at once.

This patch is part of a larger patch series which will remove
the "char bus_id[20]" name string from struct device. The device
name is managed in the kobject anyway, and without any size
limitation, and just needlessly copied into "struct device".
To set and read the device name dev_name(dev) and dev_set_name(dev)
must be used. If your code uses static kobjects, which it shouldn't
do, "const char *init_name" can be used to statically provide the
name the registered device should have. At registration time, the
init_name field is cleared, to enforce the use of dev_name(dev) to
access the device name at a later time.
We need to get rid of all occurrences of bus_id in the entire tree
to be able to enable the new interface. Please apply this patch,
and possibly convert any remaining remaining occurrences of bus_id.
We want to submit a patch to -next, which will remove bus_id from
"struct device", to find the remaining pieces to convert, and finally
switch over to the new api, which will remove the 20 bytes array
and does no longer have a size limitation.

This patch will remove the section .note.gnu.build-id added in binutils
2.18 from the vmlinux.bin binary. Not removing this section results in a
huge multiple gigabyte binary and likewize large uImage.

Impact: change calling convention of existing clock_event APIs
struct clock_event_timer's cpumask field gets changed to take pointer,
as does the ->broadcast function.
Another single-patch change. For safety, we BUG_ON() in
clockevents_register_device() if it's not set.

Add essential system devices, including GPIO controllers, automatically
at core_initcall time. This ensures that the devices are there when the
PIO driver gets initialized at postcore_initcall, fixing a bug exposed
by commit d6634db8fe "avr32: Use
platform_driver_probe for pio platform driver".

The loops_per_jiffy variable isn't updated when cpufreq changes the CPU
frequency. This could cause udelay() and friends to produce wrong
delays.

This merges branches irq/genirq, irq/sparseirq-v4, timers/hpet-percpu
and x86/uv.
The sparseirq branch is just preliminary groundwork: no sparse IRQs are
actually implemented by this tree anymore - just the new APIs are added
while keeping the old way intact as well (the new APIs map 1:1 to
irq_desc[]). The 'real' sparse IRQ support will then be a relatively
small patch ontop of this - with a v2.6.29 merge target.

This patch implements a new freezer subsystem in the control groups
framework. It provides a way to stop and resume execution of all tasks in
a cgroup by writing in the cgroup filesystem.
The freezer subsystem in the container filesystem defines a file named
freezer.state. Writing "FROZEN" to the state file will freeze all tasks
in the cgroup. Subsequently writing "RUNNING" will unfreeze the tasks in
the cgroup. Reading will return the current state.
* Examples of usage :

# mount -t cgroup -ofreezer freezer /containers
# mkdir /containers/0
# echo $some_pid > /containers/0/tasks
to get status of the freezer subsystem :

This is the basic mechanism which should do the right thing for user space
task in a simple scenario.
It's important to note that freezing can be incomplete. In that case we
return EBUSY. This means that some tasks in the cgroup are busy doing
something that prevents us from completely freezing the cgroup at this
time. After EBUSY, the cgroup will remain partially frozen -- reflected
by freezer.state reporting "FREEZING" when read. The state will remain
"FREEZING" until one of these things happens:
1) Userspace cancels the freezing operation by writing "RUNNING" to
the freezer.state file
2) Userspace retries the freezing operation by writing "FROZEN" to
the freezer.state file (writing "FREEZING" is not legal
and returns EIO)
3) The tasks that blocked the cgroup from entering the "FROZEN"
state disappear from the cgroup's set of tasks.

This patch series introduces a cgroup subsystem that utilizes the swsusp
freezer to freeze a group of tasks. It's immediately useful for batch job
management scripts. It should also be useful in the future for
implementing container checkpoint/restart.
The freezer subsystem in the container filesystem defines a cgroup file
named freezer.state. Reading freezer.state will return the current state
of the cgroup. Writing "FROZEN" to the state file will freeze all tasks
in the cgroup. Subsequently writing "RUNNING" will unfreeze the tasks in
the cgroup.

The first step in making the refrigerator() available to all
architectures, even for those without power management.
The purpose of such a change is to be able to use the refrigerator() in a
new control group subsystem which will implement a control group freezer.

As policy->governor is already set to CPUFREQ_DEFAULT_GOVERNOR in the
(always built-in) cpufreq core, we do not need to set it in the drivers.
This fixes the sparc64 allmodconfig build failure.
Also, remove a totally useles setting of ->policy in cpufreq-pxa3xx.c.

The MIMC200 board uses the SPD output pin from the Ethernet MACs for
other purposes.
One of these is as a board-reset, so I've had to #define off the SPD
output pin declaration.
This is probably not the best way of achieving this, but works in the
current framework.

This patch adds support for the Favr-32 board made by EarthLCD.
This kit, which is also called ezLCD-101, has a 10.4" touch screen LCD panel,
16 MB 32-bit SDRAM, 8 MB parallel flash, Ethernet, audio out, USB device,
SD-card slot, USART and various other connectors for cennecting stuff to SPI,
I2C, GPIO, etc.

This patch lets the user enable support for EVKLCD100 and EVKLCD101
(refered to by EVKLCD10X). By enabling EVKLCD10X support the LCD
controller and AC97 controller platform devices are added.
The user can also choose between the EVKLCD100 (QVGA display) and the
EVKLCD101 (VGA display), this is added to automagically select the
correct panel timing and resolution parameters.
Enabling support for EVKLCD10X addon board will cripple the MCI platform
device a bit since they share two GPIO lines (detect and write-protect).
These two lines are disabled when EVKLCD10X is enabled.
The default configurations are based upon ATNGW100, but with added AC97C
and LCDC driver. Virtual terminal is also enabled by default for
EVKLCD10X boards.
Verified on hardware with a NGW100 + EVKLCD100/101.

This adds support for DMA transfers through the generic DMA engine
framework with the DMA slave extensions.
The driver has been tested using mmc-block and ext3fs on several SD,
SDHC and MMC+ cards. Reads and writes work fine, with read transfer
rates up to 7.5 MiB/s on fast cards with debugging disabled.
Unfortunately, the driver has been known to lock up from time to time
with DMA enabled, so DMA support is currently optional and marked
EXPERIMENTAL. However, I didn't see any problems while testing 13
different cards (MMC, SD and SDHC of different brands and sizes), so I
suspect the "Initialize BLKR before sending data transfer command" fix
that was posted earlier fixed this as well.

The Atmel MCI controller can drive multiple cards through separate sets
of pins, but only one at a time. This patch adds support for
multiplexing access to the controller so that multiple card slots can be
used as if they were hooked up to separate mmc controllers.
The atmel-mci driver registers each slot as a separate mmc_host. Both
access the same common controller state, but they also have some state
on their own for card detection/write protect handling, and separate
shadows of the MR and SDCR registers.
When one of the slots receives a request from the mmc core, the common
controller state is checked. If it's idle, the request is submitted
immediately. If not, the request is added to a queue. When a request is
done, the queue is checked and if there is a queued request, it is
submitted before the completion callback is called.
This patch also includes a few cleanups and fixes, including a locking
overhaul. I had to change the locking extensively in any case, so I
might as well try to get it right. The driver no longer takes any
irq-safe locks, which may or may not improve the overall system
performance.
This patch also adds a bit of documentation of the internal data
structures.

Add the necessary platform infrastructure to support multiple mmc/sdcard
slots all at once through a single controller. Currently, the driver
will use the first valid slot it finds and stick with that, but later
patches will add support for switching between several slots on the fly.
Extend the platform data structure with per-slot information: MMC/SDcard
bus width and card detect/write protect pins. This will affect the pin
muxing as well as the capabilities announced to the mmc core.
Note that board code is now required to supply a mci_platform_data
struct to at32_add_device_mci().

and so a pdc device that is created after the init section is discarded
probably results in an oops. Even if this cannot happen, using
platform_driver_probe is cleaner. (If this can happen and should be
supported the probe function must live in the devinit section instead.)

Currently, setting up the portmux is completely one-shot: Once a pin is
muxed, the portmux driver will complain loudly and refuse to do anything
if you try to set up the same pin again.
Sometimes, it may be necessary to change the configuration of a pin
after it has been set up initially. This patch adds a way to undo the
previous configuration, allowing the pin to be reconfigured.
