Andy Gospodarek 1f3c8804ac bonding: allow arp_ip_targets on separate vlans to use arp validation
This allows a bond device to specify an arp_ip_target as a host that is
not on the same vlan as the base bond device and still use arp

Eric W. Biederman 91e2ff3528 net: Teach vlans to cleanup as a pernet subsystem
Take advantage of the fact that an explicit rtnl_kill_links is
unnecessary (and skipping it improves batching), as network namespace
exit calls dellink on all remaining virtual devices, and
rtnl_link_unregister calls dellink on all outstanding devices in that
network namespace. To do this we need to leave the vlan proc
directories in place until after network device exit time, which is
done by using register_pernet_subsys instead of
register_pernet_device.

Patrick McHardy 5e75659305 vlan: support "loose binding" to the underlying network device
Currently the UP/DOWN state of VLANs is synchronized to the state of the
underlying device, meaning all VLANs are set down once the underlying
device is set down. This causes all routes to the VLAN devices to vanish.

Add a flag to specify a "loose binding" mode, in which only the operstate
is transfered, but the VLAN device state is independant.

Eric Dumazet 9793241fe9 vlan: Precise RX stats accounting
With multi queue devices, its possible that several cpus call
vlan RX routines simultaneously for the same vlan device.

We update RX stats counter without any locking, so we can
get slightly wrong counters.

One possible fix is to use percpu counters, to get precise
accounting and also get guarantee of no cache line ping pongs
between cpus.

Note: this adds 16 bytes (32 bytes on 64bit arches) of percpu
data per vlan device.

Eric W. Biederman 81adee47df net: Support specifying the network namespace upon device creation.
There is no good reason to not support userspace specifying the
network namespace during device creation, and it makes it easier
to create a network device and pass it to a child network namespace
with a well known name.

We have to be careful to ensure that the target network namespace
for the new device exists through the life of the call. To keep
that logic clear I have factored out the network namespace grabbing
logic into rtnl_link_get_net.

In addtion we need to continue to pass the source network namespace
to the rtnl_link_ops.newlink method so that we can find the base
device source network namespace.

Eric Dumazet 05423b2413 vlan: allow null VLAN ID to be used
We currently use a 16 bit field (vlan_tci) to store VLAN ID/PRIO on a skb.

Null value is used as a special value, meaning vlan tagging not enabled.
This forbids use of null vlan ID.

As pointed by David, some drivers use the 3 high order bits (PRIO)

As VLAN ID is 12 bits, we can use the remaining bit (CFI) as a flag, and
allow null VLAN ID.

In case future code really wants to use VLAN_CFI_MASK, we'll have to use
a bit outside of vlan_tci.

#define VLAN_PRIO_MASK         0xe000 /* Priority Code Point */
#define VLAN_PRIO_SHIFT        13
#define VLAN_CFI_MASK          0x1000 /* Canonical Format Indicator */

Eric Dumazet 93f154b594 net: release dst entry in dev_hard_start_xmit()
One point of contention in high network loads is the dst_release() performed
when a transmited skb is freed. This is because NIC tx completion calls
dev_kree_skb() long after original call to dev_queue_xmit(skb).

CPU cache is cold and the atomic op in dst_release() stalls. On SMP, this is
quite visible if one CPU is 100% handling softirqs for a network device,
since dst_clone() is done by other cpus, involving cache line ping pongs.

It seems right place to release dst is in dev_hard_start_xmit(), for most
devices but ones that are virtual, and some exceptions.

David Miller suggested to define a new device flag, set in alloc_netdev_mq()
(so that most devices set it at init time), and carefuly unset in devices
which dont want a NULL skb->dst in their ndo_start_xmit().

List of devices that must clear this flag is :

- loopback device, because it calls netif_rx() and quoting Patrick :
"ip_route_input() doesn't accept loopback addresses, so loopback packets
already need to have a dst_entry attached."
- appletalk/ipddp.c : needs skb->dst in its xmit function

- And all devices that call again dev_queue_xmit() from their xmit function
(as some classifiers need skb->dst) : bonding, vlan, macvlan, eql, ifb, hdlc_fr

device's carrier state when the real device or the VLAN device is set
administratively up or down.

The following patch adds a transfer of operating state from the
real device to the VLAN device when the real device is administratively
set up or down, and sets the carrier state up or down during init, open
and close of the VLAN device.

This permits observers above the VLAN device that care about the
carrier state (bonding's link monitor, for example) to receive updates
for administrative changes by more closely mimicing the behavior of real
devices.

Herbert Xu 1db9e29bb0 gro: Normalise skb before bypassing GRO on netpoll VLAN path
Hi:

gro: Normalise skb before bypassing GRO on netpoll VLAN path

When we detect netpoll RX on the GRO VLAN path we bail out and
call the normal VLAN receive handler. However, the packet needs
to be normalised by calling eth_type_trans since that's what the
normal path expects (normally the GRO path does the fixup).

This patch adds the necessary call to vlan_gro_frags.

Herbert Xu d1c76af9e2 GRO: Move netpoll checks to correct location
As my netpoll fix for net doesn't really work for net-next, we
need this update to move the checks into the right place. As it
stands we may pass freed skbs to netpoll_receive_skb.

This patch also introduces a netpoll_rx_on function to avoid GRO
completely if we're invoked through netpoll. This might seem
paranoid but as netpoll may have an external receive hook it's
better to be safe than sorry. I don't think we need this for
2.6.29 though since there's nothing immediately broken by it.

This patch also moves the GRO_* return values to netdevice.h since
VLAN needs them too (I tried to avoid this originally but alas
this seems to be the easiest way out). This fixes a bug in VLAN
where it continued to use the old return value 2 instead of the
correct GRO_DROP.

Herbert Xu 4ead443163 netpoll: Add drop checks to all entry points
The netpoll entry checks are required to ensure that we don't
receive normal packets when invoked via netpoll. Unfortunately
it only ever worked for the netif_receive_skb/netif_rx entry
points. The VLAN (and subsequently GRO) entry point didn't
have the check and therefore can trigger all sorts of weird
problems.

This patch adds the netpoll check to all entry points.

I'm still uneasy with receiving at all under netpoll (which
apparently is only used by the out-of-tree kdump code). The
reason is it is perfectly legal to receive all data including
headers into highmem if netpoll is off, but if you try to do
that with netpoll on and someone gets a printk in an IRQ handler

Herbert Xu 86911732d3 gro: Avoid copying headers of unmerged packets
Unfortunately simplicity isn't always the best. The fraginfo
interface turned out to be suboptimal. The problem was quite
obvious. For every packet, we have to copy the headers from
the frags structure into skb->head, even though for 99% of the
packets this part is immediately thrown away after the merge.

LRO didn't have this problem because it directly read the headers
from the frags structure.

This patch attempts to address this by creating an interface
that allows GRO to access the headers in the first frag without
having to copy it. Because all drivers that use frags place the
headers in the first frag this optimisation should be enough.

Patrick McHardy 9b22ea5609 net: fix packet socket delivery in rx irq handler
The changes to deliver hardware accelerated VLAN packets to packet
sockets (commit bc1d0411) caused a warning for non-NAPI drivers.
The __vlan_hwaccel_rx() function is called directly from the drivers
RX function, for non-NAPI drivers that means its still in RX IRQ
context:

[ 27.779463] ------------[ cut here ]------------
[   27.779509] WARNING: at kernel/softirq.c:136 local_bh_enable+0x37/0x81()

Split hardware accelerated VLAN reception into two parts to fix this:

- __vlan_hwaccel_rx just stores the VLAN TCI and performs the VLAN
  device lookup, then calls netif_receive_skb()/netif_rx()

- vlan_hwaccel_do_receive(), which is invoked by netif_receive_skb()
in softirq context, performs the real reception and delivery to
  packet sockets.

necessary at all.

Patrick McHardy 70c03b49b8 vlan: Add GVRP support
Add GVRP support for dynamically registering VLANs with switches.

By default GVRP is disabled because we only support the applicant-only
participant model, which means it should not be enabled on vlans that
are members of a bridge. Since there is currently no way to cleanly
determine that, the user is responsible for enabling it.

The code is pretty small and low impact, its wrapped in a config
option though because it depends on the GARP implementation and
the STP core.

Patrick McHardy 81d85346b3 vlan: Correctly handle device notifications for layered VLAN devices
Commit 30688a9 ([VLAN]: Handle vlan devices net namespace changing)
changed the device notifier to special-case notifications for VLAN
devices, effectively disabling state propagation to underlying VLAN
devices. This is needed for layered VLANs though, so restore the
original behaviour.

Franck Bui-Huu 82524746c2 rcu: split list.h and move rcu-protected lists into rculist.h
Move rcu-protected lists from list.h into a new header file rculist.h.

This is done because list are a very used primitive structure all over the
kernel and it's currently impossible to include other header files in this
list.h without creating some circular dependencies.

For example, list.h implements rcu-protected list and uses rcu_dereference()
without including rcupdate.h. It actually compiles because users of
rcu_dereference() are macros. Others RCU functions could be used too but
aren't probably because of this.

Therefore this patch creates rculist.h which includes rcupdates without to
many changes/troubles.
