Kejian Yan 4a63538ef1 net: hns: update the dependency
After the patchset about adding support of ACPI (commit id is 6343488)
being applied, HNS does not depend on OF. It depends on OF or ACPI, so
the Kconfig file needs to be updated.

Kejian Yan 1d1afa2ebf net: hns: register phy device in each mac initial sequence
In ACPI case, there is no interface to register phy device to mdio-bus.
Phy device has to be registered itself to mdio-bus, and then enet can
get the phy device's info so that it can config the phy-device to help
to trasmit and receive data.
HNS hardware topology is as below. The MDIO controller may control several
PHY-devices, and each PHY-device connects to a MAC device. PHY-devices
will register when each mac find PHY device in initial sequence.

Kejian Yan 652d39b0d5 net: hns: add uniform interface for phy connection
As device_node is only used by DT case, HNS needs to treat the other
cases including ACPI. It needs to use uniform ways to handle both of
DT and ACPI. This patch chooses phy_device, and of_phy_connect and
of_phy_attach are only used by DT case. It needs to use uniform interface
to handle that sequence by both DT and ACPI.

This patchset adds support of Hisilicon Hip06 SoC to the existing HNS
ethernet driver.

The changes in the driver are mainly due to changes in the DMA
descriptor provided by the Hip06 ethernet hardware. These changes
need to co-exist with already present Hip05 DMA descriptor and its
operating functions. The decision to choose the correct type of DMA
descriptor is taken dynamically depending upon the version of the
hardware (i.e. V1/hip05 or V2/hip06, see already existing
hisilicon-hns-nic.txt binding file for detailed description). other
changes includes in SBM, DSAF and PPE modules as well. Changes
affecting the driver related to the newly added ethernet hardware
features in Hip06 would be added as separate patch over this and

Paul Gortmaker 138b15ed87 drivers/net: remove all references to obsolete Ethernet-HOWTO
This howto made sense in the 1990s when users had to manually configure
ISA cards with jumpers or vendor utilities, but with the implementation
of PCI it became increasingly less and less relevant, to the point where
it has been well over a decade since I last updated it. And there is
no value in anyone else taking over updating it either.

However the references to it continue to spread as boiler plate text
from one Kconfig file into the next. We are not doing end users any
favours by pointing them at this old document, so lets kill it with
fire, once and for all, to hopefully stop any further spread.

No code is changed in this commit, just Kconfig help text.

Thomas Gleixner 48b63776c8 net: hip04: Make tx coalesce timer actually work
The code sets the expiry value of the timer to a relative value and
starts it with hrtimer_start_expires. That's fine, but that only works
once. The timer is started in relative mode, so the expiry value gets
overwritten with the absolut expiry time (now + expiry).

So once the timer expired, a new call to hrtimer_start_expires results
in an immidiately expired timer, because the expiry value is
already in the past.

Use the proper mechanisms to (re)start the timer in the intended way.

dingtianhong a41ea46a9a net: hisilicon: new hip04 ethernet driver
Support Hisilicon hip04 ethernet driver, including 100M / 1000M controller.
The controller has no tx done interrupt, reclaim xmitted buffer in the poll.

v13: Fix the problem of alignment parameters for function and checkpatch warming.

v12: According Alex's suggestion, modify the changelog and add MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE
     for hip04 ethernet.

v11: Add ethtool support for tx coalecse getting and setting, the xmit_more
     is not supported for this patch, but I think it could work for hip04,
     will support it later after some tests for performance better.

     Here are some performance test results by ping and iperf(add tx_coalesce_frames/users),
     it looks that the performance and latency is more better by tx_coalesce_frames/usecs.

     - Before:
     $ ping 192.168.1.1 ...
     === 192.168.1.1 ping statistics ===
     24 packets transmitted, 24 received, 0% packet loss, time 22999ms
     rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.180/0.202/0.403/0.043 ms

     $ iperf -c 192.168.1.1 ...
     [ ID] Interval       Transfer     Bandwidth
     [  3]  0.0- 1.0 sec   115 MBytes   945 Mbits/sec

     - After:
     $ ping 192.168.1.1 ...
     === 192.168.1.1 ping statistics ===
     24 packets transmitted, 24 received, 0% packet loss, time 22999ms
     rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.178/0.190/0.380/0.041 ms

     $ iperf -c 192.168.1.1 ...
     [ ID] Interval       Transfer     Bandwidth
     [  3]  0.0- 1.0 sec   115 MBytes   965 Mbits/sec

v10: According David Miller and Arnd Bergmann's suggestion, add some modification
     for v9 version
     - drop the workqueue
     - batch cleanup based on tx_coalesce_frames/usecs for better throughput
     - use a reasonable default tx timeout (200us, could be shorted
       based on measurements) with a range timer
     - fix napi poll function return value
     - use a lockless queue for cleanup
