Logan Gunthorpe 58fd0f3b15 ntb_perf: Return results by reading the run file
Instead of having to watch logs, allow the results to be retrieved
by reading back the run file. This file will return "running" when
the test is running and nothing if no tests have been run yet.
It returns 1 line per thread, and will display an error message if the
corresponding thread returns an error.

With the above change, the pr_info calls that returned the results are
then changed to pr_debug calls.

Logan Gunthorpe da573eaa3a ntb_perf: Improve thread handling to increase robustness
This commit accomplishes a few things:

1) Properly prevent multiple sets of threads from running at once using
a mutex. Lots of race issues existed with the thread_cleanup.

2) The mutex allows us to ensure that threads are finished before
tearing down the device or module.

3) Don't use kthread_stop when the threads can exit by themselves, as
this is counter-indicated by the kthread_create documentation. Threads
now wait for kthread_stop to occur.

4) Writing to the run file now blocks until the threads are complete.
The test can then be safely interrupted by a SIGINT.

Also, while I was at it:

5) debugfs_run_write shouldn't return 0 in the early check cases as this
could cause debugfs_run_write to loop undesirably.

Logan Gunthorpe fd2ecd885b ntb_perf: Schedule based on time not on performance
When debugging performance problems, if some issue causes the ntb
hardware to be significantly slower than expected, ntb_perf will
hang requiring a reboot because it only schedules once every 4GB.

Instead, schedule based on jiffies so it will not hang the CPU if
the transfer is slow.

Logan Gunthorpe 19645a0771 ntb_transport: Check the number of spads the hardware supports
I'm working on hardware that currently has a limited number of
scratchpad registers and ntb_ndev fails with no clue as to why. I
feel it is better to fail early and provide a reasonable error message
then to fail later on.

The same is done to ntb_perf, but it doesn't currently require enough
spads to actually fail. I've also removed the unused SPAD_MSG and
SPAD_ACK enums so that MAX_SPAD accurately reflects the number of
spads used.

Logan Gunthorpe 8b71d28506 ntb_tool: Add memory window debug support
We allocate some memory window buffers when the link comes up, then we
provide debugfs files to read/write each side of the link.

This is useful for debugging the mapping when writing new drivers.

Logan Gunthorpe 4aae977721 ntb_perf: Allow limiting the size of the memory windows
On my system, dma_alloc_coherent won't produce memory anywhere
near the size of the BAR. So I needed a way to limit this.

It's pretty much copied straight from ntb_transport.

Dave Jiang a754a8fcaf NTB: allocate number transport entries depending on size of ring size
Currently we only allocate a fixed default number of descriptors for the tx
and rx side. We should dynamically resize it to the number of descriptors
resides in the transport rings. We should know the number of transmit
descriptors at initializaiton. We will allocate the default number of
descriptors for receive side and allocate additional ones when we know the
actual max entries for receive.

Logan Gunthorpe 625f0802e8 ntb_tool: BUG: Ensure the buffer size is large enough to return all spads
On hardware with 32 scratchpad registers the spad field in ntb tool
could chop off the end. The maximum buffer size is increased from
256 to 15 times the number or scratchpads.

Logan Gunthorpe c792eba12c ntb_tool: Fix infinite loop bug when writing spad/peer_spad file
If you tried to write two spads in one line, as per the example:

root@peer# echo '0 0x01010101 1 0x7f7f7f7f' > $DBG_DIR/peer_spad

then the CPU would freeze in an infinite loop.

This wasn't immediately obvious but 'pos' was not incrementing the
buffer, so after reading the second pair of values, 'pos' would once
again be 3 and it would re-read the second pair of values ad infinitum.

Chris Wilson deeb1519b6 drm/i915: Document and reject invalid tiling modes
Through the GTT interface to the fence registers, we can only handle
linear, X and Y tiling. The more esoteric tiling patterns are ignored.
Document that the tiling ABI only supports upto Y tiling, and reject any

Chris Wilson 9ad3676148 drm/i915: Remove locking for get_tiling
Since we are not concerned with userspace racing itself with set-tiling
(the order is indeterminant even if we take a lock), then we can safely
read back the single obj->tiling_mode and do the static lookup of
swizzle mode without having to take a lock.

get-tiling is reasonably frequent due to the back-channel passing around
of tiling parameters in DRI2/DRI3.

v2: Make tiling_mode a full unsigned int so that we can trivially use it
with READ_ONCE(). Separating it out into manual control over the flags
field was too noisy for a simple patch. Note that we could use the lower
bits of obj->stride for the tiling mode.

Chris Wilson e883d73503 drm/i915: Remove pinned check from madvise ioctl
We don't need to incur the overhead of checking whether the object is
pinned prior to changing its madvise. If the object is pinned, the
madvise will not take effect until it is unpinned and so we cannot free
the pages being pointed at by hardware. Marking a pinned object with
allocated pages as DONTNEED will not trigger any undue warnings. The check
is therefore superfluous, and by removing it we can remove a linear walk
over all the vma the object has.

Still despite it being an overzealous check, that error code is part of
the current ABI and so we must proceed with caution.

Chris Wilson 033d549b81 drm/i915: Remove (struct_mutex) locking for wait-ioctl
With a bit of care (and leniency) we can iterate over the object and
wait for previous rendering to complete with judicial use of atomic
reference counting. The ABI requires us to ensure that an active object
is eventually flushed (like the busy-ioctl) which is guaranteed by our
management of requests (i.e. everything that is submitted to hardware is
flushed in the same request). All we have to do is ensure that we can
detect when the requests are complete for reporting when the object is
idle (without triggering ETIME), locklessly - this is handled by
i915_gem_active_wait_unlocked().

The impact of this is actually quite small - the return to userspace
following the wait was already lockless and so we don't see much gain in
latency improvement upon completing the wait. What we do achieve here is
completing an already finished wait without hitting the struct_mutex,
our hold is quite short and so we are typically just a victim of
contention rather than a cause - but it is still one less contention
point!

If we try and read or write to an active request, we first must wait
upon the GPU completing that request. Let's do that without holding the
mutex (and so allow someone else to access the GPU whilst we wait). Upon

Chris Wilson f3f6184c5f drm/i915: Tidy generation of the GTT mmap offset
If we make the observation that mmap-offsets are only released when we
free an object, we can then deduce that the shrinker only creates free
space in the mmap arena indirectly by flushing the request list and
freeing expired objects. If we combine this with the lockless
vma-manager and lockless idling, we can avoid taking our big struct_mutex
until we need to actually free the requests.

One side-effect is that we defer the madvise checking until we need the
pages (i.e. the fault handler). This brings us into line with the other
delayed checks (and madvise in general).

Chris Wilson 5cba5be6b6 drm/i915/shrinker: Wait before acquiring struct_mutex under oom
We can now wait for the GPU (all engines) to become idle without
requiring the struct_mutex. Inside the shrinker, we need to currently
take the struct_mutex in order to purge objects and to purge the objects
we need the GPU to be idle - causing a stall whilst we hold the
struct_mutex. We can hide most of that stall by performing the wait
before taking the struct_mutex and only doing essential waits for
new rendering on objects to be freed.

Chris Wilson dcff85c844 drm/i915: Enable i915_gem_wait_for_idle() without holding struct_mutex
The principal motivation for this was to try and eliminate the
struct_mutex from i915_gem_suspend - but we still need to hold the mutex
current for the i915_gem_context_lost(). (The issue there is that there
may be an indirect lockdep cycle between cpu_hotplug (i.e. suspend) and
struct_mutex via the stop_machine().) For the moment, enabling last
request tracking for the engine, allows us to do busyness checking and
waiting without requiring the struct_mutex - which is useful in its own
right.

As a side-effect of having a robust means for tracking engine busyness,
we can replace our other busyness heuristic, that of comparing against
the last submitted seqno. For paranoid reasons, we have a semi-ordered
check of that seqno inside the hangchecker, which we can now improve to
an ordered check of the engine's busyness (removing a locked xchg in the
process).

v2: Pass along "bool interruptible" as being unlocked we cannot rely on
i915->mm.interruptible being stable or even under our control.

Chris Wilson 90f4fcd56b drm/i915: Remove forced stop ring on suspend/unload
Before suspending (or unloading), we would first wait upon all rendering
to be completed and then disable the rings. This later step is a remanent
from DRI1 days when we did not use request tracking for all operations
upon the ring. Now that we are sure we are waiting upon the very last
operation by the engine, we can forgo clobbering the ring registers,
though we do keep the assert that the engine is indeed idle before
sleeping.

At the CPU/ISA level, the J2 is compatible with SH-2, and thus the
changes to add J2 support build on existing SH-2 support. However, J2
does not duplicate the memory-mapped SH-2 features like the cache
interface. Instead, the cache interfaces is described in the device
tree, and new code is added to be able to access the flat device tree
at early boot before it is unflattened.

Support is also added for receiving interrupts on trap numbers in the
range 16 to 31, since the J-Core aic1 interrupt controller generates
these traps. This range was unused but nominally for hardware
exceptions on SH-2, and a few values in this range were used for
exceptions on SH-2A, but SH-2A has its own version of the relevant
code.

No individual cpu subtypes are added for J2 since the intent moving
forward is to represent SoCs with device tree rather than as
hard-coded subtypes in the kernel. The CPU_SUBTYPE_J2 Kconfig item
exists only to fit into the existing cpu selection mechanism until it
is overhauled.

Rafael J. Wysocki dd7fd3a82c ACPI / hotplug / PCI: Runtime resume bridges before bus rescans
If a PCI bridge (or PCIe port) that is runtime-suspended gets an ACPI
hotplug notification, such as a bus check, it has to be resumed before
re-scanning the devices below it, or those devices will not be
accessible and will be treated as hot-removed.

Make that happen and let the bridge suspend again after the bus below it
has been re-scanned.

This is a replacement for commit 16468c783c ("ACPI / hotplug / PCI:
Runtime resume bridge before rescan") that has been reverted, because it
introduced a system resume regression (due to missing bridge->pci_dev
checks that are necessary in case the notification is targeted at the
host bridge) and it is necessary for the code added by commit
006d44e49a ("PCI: Add runtime PM support for PCIe ports") to work as
expected.
