There is only one waiter for the completion, therefore there
is no need to use complete_all(). Let's make that clear by
using complete() instead of complete_all().
The usage pattern of the completion is:
waiter context waker context
reinit_completion()
usb_esp_queue()
wait_for_completion_interruptible()
ffs_ep0_complete()
complete()

According to Dave Miller "the networking stack has a
hard requirement that all SKBs which are transmitted
must have their completion signalled in a fininte
amount of time. This is because, until the SKB is
freed by the driver, it holds onto socket,
netfilter, and other subsystem resources."
In summary, this means that using TX IRQ throttling
for the networking gadgets is, at least, complex and
we should avoid it for the time being.

ep->mult is supposed to be set to Isochronous and
Interrupt Endapoint's multiplier value. This value
is computed from different places depending on the
link speed.
If we're dealing with HighSpeed, then it's part of
bits [12:11] of wMaxPacketSize. This case wasn't
taken into consideration before.
While at that, also make sure the ep->mult defaults
to one so drivers can use it unconditionally and
assume they'll never multiply ep->maxpacket to zero.

usb_endpoint_maxp() returns wMaxPacketSize in its
raw form. Without taking into consideration that it
also contains other bits reserved for isochronous
endpoints.
This patch fixes one occasion where this is a
problem by making sure that we initialize
ep->maxpacket only with lower 10 bits of the value
returned by usb_endpoint_maxp(). Note that seperate
patches will be necessary to audit all call sites of
usb_endpoint_maxp() and make sure that
usb_endpoint_maxp() only returns lower 10 bits of
wMaxPacketSize.

* tools/testing/radix-tree/linux/kernel.h

CURRENT_TIME macro is not appropriate for filesystems as it

Use current_time() instead.
CURRENT_TIME is also not y2038 safe.
This is also in preparation for the patch that transitions
vfs timestamps to use 64 bit time and hence make them
y2038 safe. As part of the effort current_time() will be
extended to do range checks. Hence, it is necessary for all
file system timestamps to use current_time(). Also,
current_time() will be transitioned along with vfs to be
y2038 safe.
Note that whenever a single call to current_time() is used
to change timestamps in different inodes, it is because they
share the same time granularity.

Building the UVC gadget into the kernel fails to build when
CONFIG_VIDEO_V4L2 is a loadable module:
drivers/usb/gadget/function/usb_f_uvc.o: In function `uvc_function_ep0_complete':
uvc_configfs.c:(.text.uvc_function_ep0_complete+0x84): undefined reference to `v4l2_event_queue'
drivers/usb/gadget/function/usb_f_uvc.o: In function `uvc_function_disable':
uvc_configfs.c:(.text.uvc_function_disable+0x34): undefined reference to `v4l2_event_queue'
Adding a dependency in USB_CONFIGFS_F_UVC (which is a bool symbol)
make the 'select USB_F_UVC' statement turn the USB_F_UVC into 'm'
whenever CONFIG_VIDEO_V4L2=m too, avoiding the link failure.

This patch removes that parameter and updates all calls to alloc_ep_req() to

It can sometimes be necessary for gadget drivers to process non-standard
control requests, which host devices can send without having sent
USB_REQ_SET_CONFIGURATION.
Therefore, the req_match() usb_function method is enhanced with the new
parameter "config0". When a USB configuration is active, this parameter
is false. When a non-core control request is processed in
composite_setup(), without an active configuration, req_match() of the
USB functions of all available configurations which implement this
function, is called with config0=true. Then the control request gets
processed by the first usb_function instance whose req_match() returns
true.

Even if the /dev/hidg* chardev is automatically created, one
has to guess which one belongs to which function. In the case
of multiple HID functions, or maybe even multiple peripherals,
this becomes difficult.
Add the dev (with major and minor number) to configfs to allow
looking up (or even creating) the right device node for each

Introduce an attribute "inquiry_string" to the lun.
In some environments, e. g. BIOS boot menus, the inquiry string
is the only information about devices presented to the user. The
default string depends on the "cdrom" bit of the first lun as
well as the kernel version and allows no further customization.
So without access to the client it is not obvious which gadget is
active at a given point and what any of the available luns might
contain.
If "inquiry_string" is ignored or set to the empty string, the
old behavior is preserved.

With composite gadget (ACM + NCM), USB3380 to host TCP transfer
speed dropped to 150 Mbit/s compared to 900 Mbit/s with NCM
gadget. Problem seems to be that net2280/USB3380 has only four
DMA channels and those DMA channels are allocated to first HW
endpoints. Endpoint match function was mapping endpoint names
directly, so NCM did not get DMA for bulk endpoints.
This patch changed match_ep to prefer DMA enabled hw endpoints
for bulk usb endpoints and PIO for interrupt usb endpoints.

In the legacy behavior, and USB phy, upon detection a VBus signal, was
calling usb_gadget_vbus_(dis)connect().
This model doesn't work if the phy is generic and doesn't have an
adherence to the gadget API.
Instead of relying on the phy to call the gadget API, hook up the phy
notifier to report the VBus event, and upon it call the usb gadget API
ourselves.
This brings a new ordering problem, as before even if the usb_get_phy()
was failing because the UDC was probed before the phy, the phy would
call the gadget anyway, making the VBus connection event forwarded to
the gadget. Now we rely on the notifier, we have to ensure the
xxx_get_phy() does indeed work.
In order to cope with this, it is assumed that :
- for legacy platform_data machine, as the ordering cannot be ensured,
the phy must call usb_gadget_vbus_(dis)connect, such as
phy-gpio-vbus-usb.c
- for new devicetree platforms, we'll rely on the probe deferral, and
the phy can be gadget API agnostic.

situation.
It will clean the 'port->port_usb' pointer in gserial_disconnect() function
when usb link is inactive, but it will release lock for disabling the endpoints
in this function. Druing the lock release period, it maybe complete one request
to issue gs_write_complete()--->gs_start_tx() function, but the 'port->port_usb'

When rndis data transfer is in progress, some Windows7 Host PC is not
sending the GET_ENCAPSULATED_RESPONSE command for receiving the response
for the previous SEND_ENCAPSULATED_COMMAND processed.
The rndis function driver appends each response for the
SEND_ENCAPSULATED_COMMAND in a queue. As the above process got corrupted,
the Host sends a REMOTE_NDIS_RESET_MSG command to do a soft-reset.
As the rndis response queue is not freed, the previous response is sent
as a part of this REMOTE_NDIS_RESET_MSG's reset response and the Host
block any more Rndis transfers.
Hence free the rndis response queue as a part of this soft-reset so that
the correct response for REMOTE_NDIS_RESET_MSG is sent properly during the
response command.

The above commit reordered spin_lock/unlock and now `&dev->lock' is acquired
(rather than released) before calling `dev->driver->disconnect',
`dev->driver->setup', `dev->driver->suspend', `usb_gadget_giveback_request', and
`usb_gadget_udc_reset'.
But this *may* not be the right way to fix the problem pointed by d3cb25a121.
Note that the other usb/gadget/udc drivers do release the lock before calling
these functions. There are also inconsistencies within pch_udc.c, where
`dev->driver->disconnect' is called while holding `&dev->lock' in lines 613 and
1184, but not in line 2739.
Finally, commit d3cb25a121 may have introduced several potential deadlocks.
For instance, EBA (https://github.com/models-team/eba) reports:
Double lock in drivers/usb/gadget/udc/pch_udc.c
first at 2791: spin_lock(& dev->lock); [pch_udc_isr]

after calling from 2793: pch_udc_dev_isr(dev, dev_intr);
after calling from 2724: pch_udc_svc_cfg_interrupt(dev);
Similarly, other potential deadlocks are 2791 -> 2793 -> 2721 -> 2657; and
2791 -> 2793 -> 2711 -> 2573 -> 1499 -> 1480.

This new set of tracepoints will help all gadget

instead of defining all functions as static inlines,
let's move them to udc-core and export them with

With a default size of 16kiB and with maximum of 32
buffers, we can transfer up to 512kiB, however Linux
can transfer up to 1MiB in a single mass storage
block transfer to USB3 storage devices.
Because of this, 1MiB block transfers end up being
slower than 512kiB block transfers. Let's increase
maximum number of storage buffers to a ridiculous
amount (256) so that anybody wanting to test maximum

a link TRB pointing to the head, etc.
We're also helping the host side burst (on

possible until the endpoint returns NRDY.
Other than this big TRB ring rework on dwc3, we also
have a dwc3-omap DMA initialization fix, some extra
debugfs files to aid in some odd debug sessions and
a complete removal of our FIFO resizing logic.
We have a new quirk for some dwc3 P3 quirk in some
implementations.
The rest is basically non-critical fixes and the
usual cleanups.

If a gadget driver loaded to a Superspeed-capable
peripheral controller, using a Superspeed cable,
doesn't provide Superspeed descriptors, we will get
a NULL pointer dereference.
In order to avoid that situation, we will try to
find any valid descriptors we can. If no set of
descriptors is passed in, then we'll let that gadget
oops anyhow.

When using asynchronous read or write operations on the USB endpoints the
issuer of the IO request is notified by calling the ki_complete() callback
of the submitted kiocb when the URB has been completed.
Calling this ki_complete() callback will free kiocb. Make sure that the
structure is no longer accessed beyond that point, otherwise undefined
behaviour might occur.

When binding the function to usb_configuration, check whether the thread
is running before starting another one. Without that, when function
instance is added to multiple configurations, fsg_bing starts multiple
threads with all but the latest one being forgotten by the driver. This
leads to obvious thread leaks, possible lockups when trying to halt the
machine and possible more issues.
This fixes issues with legacy/multi¹ gadget as well as configfs gadgets
when mass_storage function is added to multiple configurations.
This change also simplifies API since the legacy gadgets no longer need
to worry about starting the thread by themselves (which was where bug
in legacy/multi was in the first place).
N.B., this patch doesn’t address adding single mass_storage function
instance to a single configuration twice. Thankfully, there’s no
legitimate reason for such setup plus, if I’m not mistaken, configfs
gadget doesn’t even allow it to be expressed.
¹ I have no example failure though. Conclusion that legacy/multi has
a bug is based purely on me reading the code.

In the current implementation functionfs generates a EFAULT for async read
operations if the read buffer size is larger than the URB data size. Since
a application does not necessarily know how much data the host side is
going to send it typically supplies a buffer larger than the actual data,
which will then result in a EFAULT error.
This behaviour was introduced while refactoring the code to use iov_iter
interface in commit c993c39b86 ("gadget/function/f_fs.c: use put iov_iter
into io_data"). The original code took the minimum over the URB size and
the user buffer size and then attempted to copy that many bytes using
copy_to_user(). If copy_to_user() could not copy all data a EFAULT error
was generated. Restore the original behaviour by only generating a EFAULT
error when the number of bytes copied is not the size of the URB and the
target buffer has not been fully filled.
Commit 342f39a6c8 ("usb: gadget: f_fs: fix check in read operation")
already fixed the same problem for the synchronous read path.

If the following environment, the first argument of DMA API should
be set to a DMAC's device structure, not a udc controller's one.
- A udc controller needs an external DMAC device (like a DMA Engine).
- The external DMAC enables IOMMU.
So, this patch add usb_gadget_{un}map_request_by_dev() API to set
a DMAC's device structure by a udc controller driver.

There is no need to repeat the work that is already done in the PCI
driver core. The patch removes excerpts from suspend and resume
callbacks.
Note that there is no more calls performed to enable or disable a PCI
device during suspend-resume cycle. Nowadays they seems to be
superfluous. Someone can read more in [1].
While here, convert PM ops to use modern API.

The phy-am335x driver selects 'USB_COMMON', but all other drivers
use 'depends on' for that symbol, and it depends on USB || USB_GADGET
itself, which causes a Kconfig warning:
warning: (AM335X_PHY_USB) selects USB_COMMON which has unmet direct dependencies (USB_SUPPORT && (USB || USB_GADGET))
As suggested by Felipe Balbi, this turns the logic around, and makes
'USB_COMMON' selected by everything else that needs it, so we can
remove the dependencies.

PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} macros were introduced *long* time
ago with promise that one day it will be possible to implement page
cache with bigger chunks than PAGE_SIZE.
This promise never materialized. And unlikely will.
We have many places where PAGE_CACHE_SIZE assumed to be equal to
PAGE_SIZE. And it's constant source of confusion on whether
PAGE_CACHE_* or PAGE_* constant should be used in a particular case,
especially on the border between fs and mm.
Global switching to PAGE_CACHE_SIZE != PAGE_SIZE would cause to much
breakage to be doable.
Let's stop pretending that pages in page cache are special. They are
not.
The changes are pretty straight-forward:
- <foo> << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;
- <foo> >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;
- PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} -> PAGE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN};
- page_cache_get() -> get_page();
- page_cache_release() -> put_page();
This patch contains automated changes generated with coccinelle using
script below. For some reason, coccinelle doesn't patch header files.
I've called spatch for them manually.
The only adjustment after coccinelle is revert of changes to
PAGE_CAHCE_ALIGN definition: we are going to drop it later.
There are few places in the code where coccinelle didn't reach. I'll
fix them manually in a separate patch. Comments and documentation also
will be addressed with the separate patch.

That caused the OUT endpoint to freeze if the host send any data packet of

Since f_midi_transmit is called by both ALSA and USB sub-systems, it can
potentially cause a race condition between both calls because f_midi_transmit
is not reentrant nor thread-safe. This is due to an implementation detail that
the transmit function looks for the next available usb request from the fifo
and only enqueues it if there is data to send, otherwise just re-uses it. So,
if both ALSA and USB frameworks calls this function at the same time,
kfifo_seek() will return the same usb_request, which will cause a race
condition.
To solve this problem a syncronization mechanism is necessary. In this case it
is used a spinlock since f_midi_transmit is also called by usb_request->complete
callback in interrupt context.

Anything that needs to be kept private from the rest of the kernel

resource management, so devm_gpiochip_add_data() will cut down on
overhead and reduce code lines. A huge slew of patches convert
almost all drivers in the subsystem to use this.
- Building on making the GPIO a real device, we add the first step
of a new userspace ABI: the GPIO character device. We take small
steps here, so we first add a pure *information* ABI and the tool
"lsgpio" that will list all GPIO devices on the system and all
lines on these devices. We can now discover GPIOs properly from
userspace. We still have not come up with a way to actually *use*
GPIOs from userspace.
- To encourage people to use the character device for the future,
we have it always-enabled when using GPIO. The old sysfs ABI is
still opt-in (and can be used in parallel), but is marked as
deprecated. We will keep it around for the foreseeable future,
but it will not be extended to cover ever more use cases.
Cleanup:
- Bjorn Helgaas removed a whole slew of per-architecture <asm/gpio.h>
includes. This dates back to when GPIO was an opt-in feature and
no shared library even existed: just a header file with proper
prototypes was provided and all semantics were up to the arch to
implement. These patches make the GPIO chip even more a proper
device and cleans out leftovers of the old in-kernel API here
and there. Still some cruft is left but it's very little now.
- There is still some clamping of return values for .get() going
on, but we now return sane values in the vast majority of drivers
and the errorpath is sanitized. Some patches for powerpc, blackfin
and unicore still drop in.

For every in_substream, there must be a corresponding gmidi_in_port
structure so it is perfectly viable and some might argue sensible to
stash pointer to the input substream in the gmidi_in_port structure.
This has an added benefit that if in_ports < MAX_PORTS, the whole
f_midi structure takes up less space because only in_ports number of
pointers for in_substream are allocated instead of MAX_PORTS lots of
them.

ffs_epfile_io and ffs_epfile_io_complete runs in different context, but
there is no synchronization between them.
consider the following scenario:
1) ffs_epfile_io interrupted by sigal while
wait_for_completion_interruptible
2) then ffs_epfile_io set ret to -EINTR
3) just before or during usb_ep_dequeue, the request completed
4) ffs_epfile_io return with -EINTR
In this case, ffs_epfile_io tell caller no transfer success but actually
it may has been done. This break the caller's pipe.
Below script can help test it (adbd is the process which lies on f_fs).
while true
do
pkill -19 adbd #SIGSTOP
pkill -18 adbd #SIGCONT
sleep 0.1
done
To avoid this, just dequeue the request first. After usb_ep_dequeue, the
request must be done or canceled.
With this change, we can ensure no race condition in f_fs driver. But
actually I found some of the udc driver has analogical issue in its
dequeue implementation. For example,
1) the dequeue function hold the controller's lock.
2) before driver request controller to stop transfer, a request
completed.
3) the controller trigger a interrupt, but its irq handler need wait
dequeue function to release the lock.
4) dequeue function give back the request with negative status, and
release lock.
5) irq handler get lock but the request has already been given back.
So, the dequeue implementation should take care of this case. IMO, it
can be done as below steps to dequeue a already started request,
1) request controller to stop transfer on the given ep. HW know the
actual transfer status.
2) after hw stop transfer, driver scan if there are any completed one.
3) if found, process it with real status. if no, the request can
canceled.

In the AIO path, if allocating of a request failse, the function simply
goes to the error_lock path whose end result is returning value of ret.
However, at this point ret’s value is zero (assigned as return value from

Fix by adding ‘ret = -ENOMEM’ statement.
Signed-off-by: Michal Nazarewicz <mina86@mina86.com>
Signed-off-by: Felipe Balbi <balbi@kernel.org>
In the ffs_epfile_io function, data buffer is allocated for non-halt
requests. Later, after grabing a mutex, the function checks that
epfile->ep is still ep and if it’s not, it set ret to -ESHUTDOWN and
follow a path including spin_unlock_irq (just after ‘ret = -ESHUTDOWN’),
mutex_unlock (after if-else-if-else chain) and returns ret. Noticeably,
this does not include freeing of the data buffer.
Fix by introducing a goto which moves control flow to the the end of the
function where spin_unlock_irq, mutex_unlock and kfree are all called.

When I wrote the cleanup patch series, it was not clear how
exactly big-endian mode works on ixp4xx, and whether the driver

The USB_FSL_MPH_DR_OF symbol is used to ensure the code that interprets
the DR device node is built whenever one of the two drivers (EHCI or
UDC) for the platform is enabled. However, if CONFIG_USB is disabled
and we only support gadget mode, this causes a Kconfig warning:
warning: (USB_FSL_USB2) selects USB_FSL_MPH_DR_OF which has unmet direct dependencies (USB_SUPPORT && USB)
We can avoid this warning by simply no longer using the symbol,
and making sure we enter the drivers/usb/host/ directory when
the UDC driver is enabled that needs the file, and then we use
Makefile syntax to ensure the file is built-in if needed.
There is currently a dependency on CONFIG_OF, but this is redundant,
as we already know that this is set unconditionally for the platforms
that use this driver.

This converts the pxa25x udc driver to use readl/writel as normal
driver should do, rather than dereferencing __iomem pointers
themselves.
Based on the earlier preparation work, we can now also pass
the register start in the device pointer so we no longer need
the global variable.
The unclear part here is for IXP4xx, which supports both big-endian
and little-endian configurations. So far, the driver has done
no byteswap in either case. I suspect that is wrong and it would
actually need to swap in one or the other case, but I don't know
which. It's also possible that there is some magic setting in
the chip that makes the endianess of the MMIO register match the
CPU, and in that case, the code actually does the right thing
for all configurations, both before and after this patch.

This removes the dependency on the mach/hardware.h header file
from the pxa25x_udc driver after the register definitions were
already unified in the previous patch.
Following the model of pxa27x_udc (and basically all other drivers
in the kernel), we define the register numbers as offsets from
the register base address and use accessor functions to read/write
them.
For the moment, this still leaves the direct pointer dereference
in place, instead of using readl/writel, so this patch should
not be changing the behavior of the driver, other than using
ioremap() on the platform resource to replace the hardcoded
virtual address pointers.

When a function is added to a configuration with usb_add_function(), the
configuration speed flags are updated. These flags indicate for which
speeds the configuration is valid for.
This patch adds a flag in the configuration for SuperSpeedPlus and
also updates this based on the existence of ssp_descriptors.

Add a ssp_descriptors member to struct usb_function and handle the
initialization and cleanup of it. This holds the SuperSpeedPlus
descriptors for a function that supports SuperSpeedPlus. This is added
by usb_assign_descriptors().

Add the 'ssp_descriptors' parameter to the usb_assign_descriptors()
function. This allows a function driver to add descriptors for
SuperSpeedPlus speeds if it supports it.
Also update all uses of this function in the gadget subsystem so that
they pass NULL for the ssp_descriptors parameters.

Currently this implementation returns a fixed descriptor with typical

The USB 3.1 specification replaces the USB 3.0 specification and all new
devices that are running at SuperSpeed or higher speeds must report a
bcdUSB of 0x0310.

Most arches have an asm/gpio.h that merely includes linux/gpio.h. The
others select ARCH_HAVE_CUSTOM_GPIO_H, and when that's selected,
linux/gpio.h includes asm/gpio.h.
Therefore, code should include linux/gpio.h instead of including asm/gpio.h
directly.
Remove includes of asm/gpio.h, adding an include of linux/gpio.h when
necessary.
This is a follow-on to 7563bbf89d ("gpiolib/arches: Centralise

R-Car H3 has USB3.0 peripheral controllers. This controller's has the
following features:
- Supports super, high and full speed
- Contains 30 pipes for bulk or interrupt transfer
- Contains dedicated DMA controller

Converting tcm to the new function interface requires converting
USB tcm's function code and its users.
This patch converts the f_tcm.c to the new function interface.
The file can be now compiled into a separate module usb_f_tcm.ko.
The old function interface is provided by means of preprocessor conditional
directives. After all users are converted, the old interface can be
removed.

The queue_setup callback has a void pointer that is just for V4L2
and is the pointer to the v4l2_format struct that was passed to
VIDIOC_CREATE_BUFS. The idea was that drivers would use the information
from that struct to buffers suitable for the requested format.
After the vb2 split series this pointer is now a void pointer,
which is ugly, and the reality is that all existing drivers will
effectively just look at the sizeimage field of v4l2_format.
To make this more generic the queue_setup callback is changed:
the void pointer is dropped, instead if the *num_planes argument
is 0, then use the current format size, if it is non-zero, then
it contains the number of requested planes and the sizes array
contains the requested sizes. If either is unsupported, then return
-EINVAL, otherwise use the requested size(s).

The gadget ethernet driver supports changing the MTU, but only allows this
when the USB cable is removed. The comment indicates that this is because
the "peer won't know". Even if the network link is still down and only the
USB link is established, the driver won't allow the change.
Other network interfaces allow changing the MTU any time, and don't force
the link to be disabled. This makes perfect sense, because in order to be
able to negotiate the MTU, the link needs to be up.
Remove the restriction so that it is now actually possible to change the
MTU (e.g. using "ifconfig usb0 mtu 15000") without having to manually pull
the plug or change the driver's default setting.

This patch introduces pre-allocation of IN endpoint USB requests. This
improves on latency (requires no usb request allocation on transmit) and avoid
several potential probles on allocating too many usb requests (which involves
DMA pool allocation problems).
This implementation also handles better multiple MIDI Gadget ports, always
processing the last processed MIDI substream if the last USB request wasn't
enought to handle the whole stream.

Change behavior during registration of gadgets and
gadget drivers in udc-core. Instead of previous
approach when for successful probe of usb gadget driver
at least one usb gadget should be already registered
use another one where gadget drivers and gadgets
can be registered in udc-core independently.
Independent registration of gadgets and gadget drivers
is useful for built-in into kernel gadget and gadget
driver case - because it's possible that gadget is
really probed only on late_init stage (due to deferred
probe) whereas gadget driver's probe is silently failed
on module_init stage due to no any UDC added.
Also it is useful for modules case - now there is no
difference what module to insert first: gadget module
or gadget driver one.

Following changes that appeared in lk 4.0.0, the gadget udc driver for
some ARM based Atmel SoCs (e.g. at91sam9x5 and sama5d3 families)
incorrectly deduced full-speed USB link speed even when the hardware
had negotiated a high-speed link. The fix is to make sure that the
UDPHS Interrupt Enable Register value does not mask the SPEED bit
in the Interrupt Status Register.
For a mass storage gadget this problem lead to failures when the host
had a USB 3 port with the xhci_hcd driver. If the host was a USB 2
port using the ehci_hcd driver then the mass storage gadget worked
(but probably at a lower speed than it should have).

Pull SCSI target updates from Nicholas Bellinger:
"This series contains HCH's changes to absorb configfs attribute
->show() + ->store() function pointer usage from it's original
tree-wide consumers, into common configfs code.
It includes usb-gadget, target w/ drivers, netconsole and ocfs2
changes to realize the improved simplicity, that now renders the
original include/target/configfs_macros.h CPP magic for fabric drivers
and others, unnecessary and obsolete.
And with common code in place, new configfs attributes can be added
easier than ever before.
Note, there are further improvements in-flight from other folks for
v4.5 code in configfs land, plus number of target fixes for post -rc1
code"
In the meantime, a new user of the now-removed old configfs API came in
through the char/misc tree in commit 7bd1d4093c ("stm class: Introduce
an abstraction for System Trace Module devices").
This merge resolution comes from Alexander Shishkin, who updated his stm
class tracing abstraction to account for the removal of the old
show_attribute and store_attribute methods in commit 517982229f
("configfs: remove old API") from this pull. As Alexander says about
that patch:
"There's no need to keep an extra wrapper structure per item and the
awkward show_attribute/store_attribute item ops are no longer needed.
This patch converts policy code to the new api, all the while making
the code quite a bit smaller and easier on the eyes.

bisectable.

matches another "for kthreads only" kernel_sigaction() helper.
2. Remove the "tsk" and "mask" arguments, they are always current

A series of patches from Robert Baldyga cleaned up uses of
ep->driver_data as a flag for "claimed endpoint" in favor of the new
ep->claimed flag.
Sudip Mukherjee fixed a ton of really old problems on the amd5536udc

Heikki Krogerus worked on converting dwc3 to the unified device property

Merge tag 'usb-for-v4.4' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/balbi/usb into usb-next
Felipe writes:
usb: patches for v4.4 merge window
This pull request is large with a total of 136 non-merge
commits. Because of its size, we will only describe the big things in
broad terms.
Many will be happy to know that dwc3 is now almost twice as fast after
some profiling and speed improvements. Also in dwc3, John Youn from
Synopsys added support for their new DWC USB3.1 IP Core and the HAPS
platform which can be used to validate it.
A series of patches from Robert Baldyga cleaned up uses of
ep->driver_data as a flag for "claimed endpoint" in favor of the new
ep->claimed flag.
Sudip Mukherjee fixed a ton of really old problems on the amd5536udc
driver. That should make a few people happy.
Heikki Krogerus worked on converting dwc3 to the unified device property
interface.
Together with these, there's a ton of non-critical fixes, typos and
stuff like that.

Since commit e0857ce58e
("usb: gadget: loopback: don't queue requests to bogus endpoints")
Loopback function is not realy working as that commit removed
all looping back logic. After that commit ep-out works like
/dev/null and ep-in works like /dev/zero.
This commit fix this issue by allocating set of out requests
and set of in requests but each out req shares buffer with
one in req:
out_req->buf ---> buf <--- in_req.buf
out_req->context <---> in_req.context
The completion routine simply enqueue the suitable req in
an oposite direction.

Each instance of loopback function may have different qlen
and buflen attributes values. When linking function to
configuration those values had been assigned to global
variables. Linking other instance to config overwrites those
values.
This commit moves those values to f_loopback structure
to avoid overwriting. Now each function has its own instance
of those values.

When handling device GET_DESCRIPTOR, composite gadget driver fills
the bcdUSB field only if the gadget supports USB 3.0. Otherwise
the field is left unfilled.
For consistency, set bcdUSB to 0x0200 for gadgets that don't
support superspeed.
It's correct to use 0x0200 for any setting that doesn't use
superspeed, since USB 2.0 devices can restrict themselves to
full speed only. It is NOT correct to use 0x0210, since BOS
descriptors are handled only if gadget_is_superspeed() is
satisfied, otherwise it results in a stall.

While building allmodconfig on avr32 the build failed with the error:
"at91_pmc_base" [drivers/usb/gadget/udc/atmel_usba_udc.ko] undefined!
On checking the code it turned out that if CONFIG_OF is defined then it
is using at91_pmc_read() which is using at91_pmc_base. And unless
COMMON_CLK_AT91 is defined we donot have at91_pmc_base. And
COMMON_CLK_AT91 is available with AT91 architecture.

OF is not enabled.

enabled/disabled state storing, we can reduce number of places where
we read or modify it's value, as now it has no particular meaning for
function or framework logic.
In case of f_mass_storage we only need to store in ep->driver_data
pointer to struct fsg_common, which is used in bulk_in_complete() and
bulk_out_complete() callbacks. All other uses of ep->driver_data are now
meaningless and can be safely removed.

have to obtain it from another source as in this context ep->driver_data
contains invalid data.

Fix comments in code to make them up to date.
composite: claiming endpoint is now done by setting ep->claimed flag,
not ep->driver_data.
epautoconf: usb_ep_autoconfig() and usb_ep_autoconfig_ss() return
claimed endpoint with ep->claimed flag already set.

each transfer, but they agree with max packet size for each
endpoint, we use max packet size to format data pattern.

USB network adapters support Jumbo frames. The only thing blocking
that feature is the code in the gadget driver that disposes of
packets larger than 1518 bytes, and the limit on the ioctl to set
the mtu.
This patch relaxes these limits, and allows up to 15k frames sizes.
The 15k value was chosen because 16k does not work on all platforms,
and usingclose to 16k will result in allocating 5 or 8 4k pages to
store the skb, wasting pages at no measurable performance gain.
On a topic-miami board (Zynq-7000), iperf3 performance reports:
MTU= 1500, PC-to-gadget: 139 Mbps, Gadget-to-PC: 116 Mbps
MTU=15000, PC-to-gadget: 239 Mbps, Gadget-to-PC: 361 Mbps
On boards with slower CPUs the performance improvement will be
relatively much larger, e.g. an OMAP-L138 increased from 40 to
220 Mbps using a similar patch on an 2.6.37 kernel.

Instead of allowing a range of 2 to 4 requests,
let's allow the user choose up to 32 requests
as that will give us a better chance of keeping
controller busy.
We still maintain default of 2 so users shouldn't
be affected.
