Vignesh R b2c663d155 serial: 8250: 8250_core: Fix irq name for 8250 serial IRQ
Using dev_name() as IRQ name during request_irq() might be misleading in
case of serial over PCI. Therefore identify serial port IRQ using
uart_port's name field. This will help mapping IRQs to appropriate
ttySN(where N is the serial port index) instances.

Vignesh R f7048b1590 tty: serial_core: Add name field to uart_port struct
Introduce a field to store name of uart_port that can be used to easily
identify UART port instances on a system that has more than one UART
instance. The name is of the form ttyXN(eg. ttyS0, ttyAMA0,..) where N
is number that particular UART instance.
This field will be useful when printing debug info for a particular port
or in register IRQs with unique IRQ name. Port name is populated during
uart_add_one_port().

MSI needs it as well.

Should have no practical impact, though, as DMA is always available on
the Quark. But given the few users of pci_alloc_irq_vectors so far, this
incorrect pattern may spread otherwise.

Geert Uytterhoeven cfa6eb2391 serial: sh-sci: Fix (AUTO)RTS in sci_init_pins()
If a UART has dedicated RTS/CTS pins, and hardware control flow is
disabled (or AUTORTS is not yet effective), changing any serial port
configuration deasserts RTS, as .set_termios() calls sci_init_pins().

To fix this, consider the current (AUTO)RTS state when (re)initializing
the pins.  Note that for SCIFA/SCIFB, AUTORTS needs explicit
configuration of the RTS# pin function, while (H)SCIF handles this
automatically.

Geert Uytterhoeven 5f76895e4c serial: sh-sci: Fix late enablement of AUTORTS
When changing hardware control flow for a UART with dedicated RTS/CTS
pins, the new AUTORTS state is not immediately reflected in the
hardware, but only when RTS is raised.  However, the serial core does
not call .set_mctrl() after .set_termios(), hence AUTORTS may only
become effective when the port is closed, and reopened later.
Note that this problem does not happen when manually using stty to
change CRTSCTS, as AUTORTS will work fine on next open.

To fix this, call .set_mctrl() from .set_termios() when dedicated
RTS/CTS pins are present, to refresh the AUTORTS or RTS state.
This is similar to what other drivers supporting AUTORTS do (e.g.
omap-serial).

Geert Uytterhoeven e37f712f76 serial: sh-sci: Fix hang in sci_reset()
When the .set_termios() callback resets the UART, it first waits (busy
loops) until all characters in the transmit FIFO have been transmitted,
to prevent a port configuration change from impacting these characters.

However, if the UART has dedicated RTS/CTS hardware flow control
enabled, these characters may have been stuck in the FIFO due to CTS not
being asserted by the remote side.

  - When a new user opens the port, .set_termios() is called while
    transmission is still disabled, leading to an infinite loop:

	NMI watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 22s!

  - When an active user changes port configuration without waiting for
    the draining of the transmit FIFO, this may also block indefinitely,
    until CTS is asserted by the remote side.

This has been observed with SCIFA (on r8a7740/armadillo), and SCIFB and
HSCIF (on r8a7791/koelsch).

To fix this, remove the code that waits for the draining of the transmit
FIFO.

semaphore. This situation can easily lead to a deadlock scenario

Johan Hovold 93857edd98 tty: reset termios state on device registration
Free any saved termios data when registering a tty device so that the
termios state is reset when reusing a minor number.

This is useful for hot-pluggable buses such as USB where it does not
make much sense to reuse saved termios data from an unrelated device
when a new device is later plugged in.

This specifically avoids a situation where the new device does not have
the carrier-detect signal wired, but the saved termios state has CLOCAL
cleared, effectively preventing the port from being opened in blocking
mode as noted by Jan Kundrát <jan.kundrat@cesnet.cz>.

Note that clearing the saved data at deregistration would not work as
the device could still be open.

Also note that the termios data is not reset for drivers with
TTY_DRIVER_DYNAMIC_ALLOC set (e.g. legacy pty) as their character device
is registered at driver registration and could theoretically already
have been opened (and pty termios state is never saved anyway).

Johan Hovold 6a7e6f78c2 tty: close race between device register and open
The tty class device is currently not registered until after the
character device has been registered thereby leaving a small window
were a racing open could end up with a NULL tty->dev pointer due to the
class-device lookup failing in alloc_tty_struct.

Close this race by registering the class device before the character
device while making sure to defer the user-space uevent notification
until after the character device has been registered.

Note that some tty drivers expect a valid tty->dev and would misbehave
or crash otherwise. Some line disciplines also currently dereference the
class device unconditionally despite the fact that not every tty is
guaranteed to have one (Unix98 pty), but this is being fixed separately.

Rob Herring 0634c29589 of: Add function for generating a DT modalias with a newline
The modalias sysfs attr is lacking a newline for DT aliases on platform
devices. The macio and ibmebus correctly add the newline, but open code it.
Introduce a new function, of_device_modalias(), that fills the buffer with
the modalias including the newline and update users of the old
of_device_get_modalias function.

Philipp Zabel acbdad8dd1 serial: 8250_dw: simplify optional reset handling
As of commit bb475230b8 ("reset: make optional functions really
optional"), the reset framework API calls use NULL pointers to describe
optional, non-present reset controls.

This allows to return errors from devm_reset_control_get_optional and to
call reset_control_(de)assert unconditionally.

Jiri Slaby 22077b091a tty: serial_core, remove state checks in uart_poll*
Coverity complains about uart_state checks in polling functions. And it
is indeed correct. We do something like this:
	struct uart_state *state = drv->state + line;
	if (!state)
		return;

Adding 'line' to drv->state would move the potential NULL pointer to
something near NULL and the check is useless. Even if we checked pure
drv->state, nothing guarantees it is not freed and NULLed after the
check. So if the only user of this interface (kgdboc) needs to assure
something, this is neither the correct thing, nor place to do so.

Lukas Redlinger fab8a02b73 serial: 8250_fintek: Enable high speed mode on Fintek F81866
Fintek F81866 supports baud rates higher than 115200 but needs to raise
it's clock speed from 1.84 to 14.76 MHz.
This is eight times faster, so gives 921600 as resulting baud_base.

F81866 clock register 0xf2:

If the tty has been hungup, the ldisc instance may have been destroyed.
Continued input to the tty will be ignored as long as the ldisc instance
is not visible to the flush_to_ldisc kworker. However, when the tty
is reopened and a new ldisc instance is created, the flush_to_ldisc
kworker can obtain an ldisc reference before the new ldisc is
completely initialized. This will likely crash:

While using emacs, cat or others' commands in konsole with recent
kernels, I have met many times that CTRL-C freeze konsole. After
konsole freeze I can't type anything, then I have to open a new one,
it is very annoying.

The platform in that bug report is Solaris, but now the pty in linux
has the same problem or the same behavior as Solaris :)

It has high possibility to trigger the problem follow steps below:
Note: In my test, BigFile is a text file whose size is bigger than 1G

After some digging, I find out the reason is that commit 1d1d14da12
("pty: Fix buffer flush deadlock") changes the behavior of pty_flush_buffer.

Yes, I know we could use the same patch included in the BUG report as
a workaround for linux platform too. But I think the data in ldisc is
belong to application of another side, we shouldn't clear it when we
want to flush write buffer of this side in pty_flush_buffer. So I think
it is better to disable ldisc flush in pty_flush_buffer, because its new
hehavior bring no benefit except that it mess up the behavior between
POLLIN, and TIOCINQ or FIONREAD.

Also I find no flush_buffer function in others' tty driver has the
same behavior as current pty_flush_buffer.

Sam Povilus b44b96a060 uartlite: Adding a kernel parameter for the number of uartlites
The number of uartlites should be set by a kernel parameter instead of
using a #define. This allows the user to set the number of uartlites
using only kconfig and not modifying kernel source.

The uartlite is used by FPGAs that support a basically unlimited number
of uarts so limiting it at 16 dosn't make sense as users might need more
than that.

Tobias Klauser 0dcc0542a0 serial: altera_jtaguart: add earlycon support
Nios2 currently uses its own early printk implementation, rather than
using unified earlycon support to show boot messages on altera_jtaguart
(and altera_uart for that matter).

Add earlycon support to altera_jtaguart so that other archs may use it. Also,
this will allow the early printk implementation in arch/nios2 to eventually be
removed in a future patch.

Dmitry Vyukov a4a3e06114 tty: fix data race in tty_ldisc_ref_wait()
tty_ldisc_ref_wait() checks tty->ldisc under tty->ldisc_sem.
But if ldisc==NULL it releases them sem and reloads
tty->ldisc without holding the sem. This is wrong and
can lead to returning non-NULL ldisc without protection.

Don't reload tty->ldisc second time.

Dmitry Vyukov 5362544beb tty: don't panic on OOM in tty_set_ldisc()
If tty_ldisc_open() fails in tty_set_ldisc(), it tries to go back
to the old discipline or N_TTY. But that can fail as well, in such
case it panics. This is not a graceful way to handle OOM.

Leave ldisc==NULL if all attempts fail instead.
Also use existing tty_ldisc_reinit() helper function instead of
tty_ldisc_restore(). Also don't WARN/BUG in tty_ldisc_reinit()
if N_TTY fails, which would have the same net effect of bringing
kernel down on OOM. Instead print a single line message about
what has happened.

Vignesh R f48180a70e serial: 8250: 8250_core: Use dev_name() during request_irq()
Passing "serial" as name during request_irq() results in all serial port
irqs have same name. This does not help much to easily identify which
irq belongs to which serial port instance. Therefore pass dev_name()
during request_irq() so that better identifiable name is listed for
serial ports in cat /proc/interrupts output.

Takatoshi Akiyama 3c9101766b serial: sh-sci: Fix panic when serial console and DMA are enabled
This patch fixes an issue that kernel panic happens when DMA is enabled
and we press enter key while the kernel booting on the serial console.

* An interrupt may occur after sci_request_irq().
* DMA transfer area is initialized by setup_timer() in sci_request_dma()
  and used in interrupt.

If an interrupt occurred between sci_request_irq() and setup_timer() in
sci_request_dma(), DMA transfer area has not been initialized yet.
So, this patch changes the order of sci_request_irq() and
sci_request_dma().

James Hogan b15bfbe642 serial: 8250_dw: Fix breakage when HAVE_CLK=n
Commit 6a171b2993 ("serial: 8250_dw: Allow hardware flow control to be
used") recently broke the 8250_dw driver on platforms which don't select
HAVE_CLK, as dw8250_set_termios() gets confused by the behaviour of the
fallback HAVE_CLK=n clock API in linux/clk.h which pretends everything
is fine but returns (valid) NULL clocks and 0 HZ clock rates.

That 0 rate is written into the uartclk resulting in a crash at boot,
e.g. on Cavium Octeon III based UTM-8 we get something like this:

The clock API is defined such that NULL is a valid clock handle so it
wouldn't be right to check explicitly for NULL. Instead treat a
clk_round_rate() return value of 0 as an error which prevents uartclk

Heiko Stuebner 09498087f9 serial: 8250_dw: Honor clk_round_rate errors in dw8250_set_termios
clk_round_rate returns a signed long and may possibly return errors
in it, for example if there is no possible rate.

Till now dw8250_set_termios ignored any error, the signednes and would
just use the value as input to clk_set_rate. This of course falls apart
if there is an actual error, so check for errors and only try to set
a rate if the value is actually valid.

This turned up on some Rockchip platforms after commit
6a171b2993 ("serial: 8250_dw: Allow hardware flow control to be used")
enabled set_termios callback in all cases, not only ACPI.

If DMA is not available (even when configured in DeviceTree), the driver
will fail the startup procedure thus making serial console not
available.

Alexander Popov 82f2341c94 tty: n_hdlc: get rid of racy n_hdlc.tbuf
Currently N_HDLC line discipline uses a self-made singly linked list for
data buffers and has n_hdlc.tbuf pointer for buffer retransmitting after
an error.

The commit be10eb7589
("tty: n_hdlc add buffer flushing") introduced racy access to n_hdlc.tbuf.
After tx error concurrent flush_tx_queue() and n_hdlc_send_frames() can put
one data buffer to tx_free_buf_list twice. That causes double free in
n_hdlc_release().

Let's use standard kernel linked list and get rid of n_hdlc.tbuf:
in case of tx error put current data buffer after the head of tx_buf_list.

Now that %z is standartised in C99 there is no reason to support %Z.
Unlike %L it doesn't even make format strings smaller.

Use BUILD_BUG_ON in a couple ATM drivers.

In case anyone didn't notice lib/vsprintf.o is about half of SLUB which
is in my opinion is quite an achievement.  Hopefully this patch inspires
someone else to trim vsprintf.c more.

Michal Hocko 9af744d743 lib/show_mem.c: teach show_mem to work with the given nodemask
show_mem() allows to filter out node specific data which is irrelevant
to the allocation request via SHOW_MEM_FILTER_NODES.  The filtering is
done in skip_free_areas_node which skips all nodes which are not in the
mems_allowed of the current process.  This works most of the time as
expected because the nodemask shouldn't be outside of the allocating
task but there are some exceptions.  E.g.  memory hotplug might want to
request allocations from outside of the allowed nodes (see
new_node_page).

Get rid of this hardcoded behavior and push the allocation mask down the
show_mem path and use it instead of cpuset_current_mems_allowed.  NULL
nodemask is interpreted as cpuset_current_mems_allowed.

Christopher Covington d8a4995bce tty: pl011: Work around QDF2400 E44 stuck BUSY bit
The Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies QDF2400 family of SoCs contains a
custom (non-PrimeCell) implementation of the SBSA UART. Occasionally the
BUSY bit in the Flag Register gets stuck as 1, erratum 44 for both 2432v1
and 2400v1 SoCs.Checking that the Transmit FIFO Empty (TXFE) bit is 0,
instead of checking that the BUSY bit is 1, works around the issue.

To facilitate this substitution of flags and values, introduce
vendor-specific inversion of Feature Register bits when UART AMBA Port
(UAP) data is available. For the earlycon case, prior to UAP availability,
implement alternative putc and early_write functions.

Similar to what how ARMv8 ACPI PCI quirks are detected during MCFG parsing,
check the OEM fields of the Serial Port Console Redirection (SPCR) ACPI
table to determine if the current platform is known to be affected by the
erratum.

Romain Izard 2867af2dcf atmel_serial: Use the fractional divider when possible
The fractional baud rate generator is available when using the
asynchronous mode of Atmel USART controllers. It makes it possible to
use higher baudrates, in exchange for a less precise clock with a
variable duty cycle.

The existing code restricts its use to the normal mode of the USART
controller, following the recommendation from the datasheet for the
first chip embedding this type of controller. This recommendation has
been removed from the documentation for the newer chips. After
verification, all revisions of this controller should be able to use the
fractional baud rate generator with the different asynchronous modes.

Removing the condition on ATMEL_US_USMODE makes it possible to get
correct baudrates at high speed in more cases.

This was tested with a board using an Atmel SAMA5D2 chip and a TI
WL1831 WiFi/Bluetooth combo chip at 3 Mbauds, with hardware flow control
enabled.

Jan Kiszka fc6cc96157 serial: exar: Move Commtech adapters to 8250_exar as well
Those are Exar-based, too.

With the required refactoring of the code to fit into 8250_exar, we
automatically fix the same issue pci_xr17v35x_setup had before: 8XMODE,
FCTL, TXTRG and RXTRG were always only set for port 0. Now they are
initialized for the correct target port by using port.membase.

Now we can also cleanly fix the blacklist of 8250_pci so that all
Commtech devices are rejected and 8250_exar can handle them.

Douglas Anderson 424d79183a serial: 8250_dw: Avoid "too much work" from bogus rx timeout interrupt
On a Rockchip rk3399-based board during suspend/resume testing, we
found that we could get the console UART into a state where it would
print this to the console a lot:
  serial8250: too much work for irq42

Followed eventually by:
  NMI watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 11s!

Upon debugging I found that we're in this state:
  iir = 0x000000cc
  lsr = 0x00000060

It appears that somehow we have a RX Timeout interrupt but there is no
actual data present to receive.  When we're in this state the UART
driver claims that it handled the interrupt but it actually doesn't
really do anything.  This means that we keep getting the interrupt
over and over again.

Normally we don't actually need to do anything special to handle a RX
Timeout interrupt.  We'll notice that there is some data ready and
we'll read it, which will end up clearing the RX Timeout.  In this
case we have a problem specifically because we got the RX TImeout
without any data.  Reading a bogus byte is confirmed to get us out of
this state.

It's unclear how exactly the UART got into this state, but it is known
that the UART lines are essentially undriven and unpowered during
suspend, so possibly during resume some garbage / half transmitted
bits are seen on the line and put the UART into this state.

The UART on the rk3399 is a DesignWare based 8250 UART.  From mailing
list posts, it appears that other people have run into similar
problems with DesignWare based IP.  Presumably this problem is unique
to that IP, so I have placed the workaround there to avoid possibly of
accidentally triggering bad behavior on other IP.  Also note the RX
Timeout behaves very differently in the DMA case, for for now the
workaround is only applied to the non-DMA case.

Lee Jones d735625648 serial: st-asc: (De)Register GPIOD and swap Pinctrl profiles
When hardware flow-control is disabled, manual toggling of the UART's
reset line (RTS) using userland applications (e.g. stty) is not
possible, since the ASC IP does not provide this functionality in the
same was as some other IPs do.  Thus, we have to do this manually.

This patch ensures that when HW flow-control is disabled the RTS/CTS
lines are free to be registered via the GPIO API.  It also ensures
any registered GPIO lines are unregistered when HW flow-control is
requested, allowing the IP to control them automatically.

Ian Abbott 1c9c858e2f serial: 8250_pci: Add MKS Tenta SCOM-0800 and SCOM-0801 cards
The MKS Instruments SCOM-0800 and SCOM-0801 cards (originally by Tenta
Technologies) are 3U CompactPCI serial cards with 4 and 8 serial ports,
respectively.  The first 4 ports are implemented by an OX16PCI954 chip,
and the second 4 ports are implemented by an OX16C954 chip on a local
bus, bridged by the second PCI function of the OX16PCI954.  The ports
are jumper-selectable as RS-232 and RS-422/485, and the UARTs use a
non-standard oscillator frequency of 20 MHz (base_baud = 1250000).

Rob Herring cd6484e183 serdev: Introduce new bus for serial attached devices
The serdev bus is designed for devices such as Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS
and NFC connected to UARTs on host processors. Tradionally these have
been handled with tty line disciplines, rfkill, and userspace glue such
as hciattach. This approach has many drawbacks since it doesn't fit
into the Linux driver model. Handling of sideband signals, power control
and firmware loading are the main issues.

This creates a serdev bus with controllers (i.e. host serial ports) and
attached devices. Typically, these are point to point connections, but
some devices have muxing protocols or a h/w mux is conceivable. Any
muxing is not yet supported with the serdev bus.

To allow operation with a higher RX FIFO interrupt threshold in PIO
mode, it is necessary to consider the DR bit ("FIFO not full, but no
data received for 1.5 frames") as an indicator that data can be read.

Sudeep Holla aea9a80ba9 tty: serial: pl011: add ttyAMA for matching pl011 console
Commit c7cef0a849 ("console: Add extensible console matching") added
match() method to struct console which allows the console to perform
console command line matching instead of (or in addition to) default
console matching (ie., by fixed name and index).

Commit ad1696f6f0 ("ACPI: parse SPCR and enable matching console")
introduced support for SPCR as matching console.

Commit 10879ae5f1 ("serial: pl011: add console matching function")
added the match method for pl011 console which checks for the console
string to be "pl011"

Now on a platform which has both SPCR in the ACPI tables and ttyAMA in
the command line, the ttyAMA is chosen as "selected console" but it
doesn't pass the matching console method which results in CON_CONSDEV
not being set on the "selected console".

As a result of that, the bootconsole(SPCR in the above case) is not
unregistered and all the beginning boot messages are seen twice.

This patch adds "ttyAMA" so that it's considered to match pl011 console.

When userspace passes the SER_RS485_RTS_ON_SEND flag it means that the
CTS_B pin should go to logic level high before the transmission begins.

CTS_B goes to logic level high when both CTSC and CTS bits are cleared.

When userspace passes the SER_RS485_RTS_AFTER_SEND flag it means that the
CTS_B pin should go to logic level low after the transmission finishes.

CTS_B goes to logic level low when CTSC bit is cleared and CTS bit is set.

So fix the CTS_B polarity logic.

However the RTS GPIO polarity observed in the oscilloscope is inverted.

When the SER_RS485_RTS_ON_SEND flag is set the imx_port_rts_active()
function should be called and following the same logic when
SER_RS485_RTS_AFTER_SEND flag is cleared the imx_port_rts_inactive()
should be called.

Do such logic change so that RS485 communication in half duplex can
work successfully when the RTS GPIO pin is passed via device tree.

During build testing, I ran into a warning in a driver that I
had written myself at some point:

drivers/tty/serial/8250/8250_of.c: In function 'of_platform_serial_probe':
drivers/tty/serial/8250/8250_of.c:233:1: error: the frame size of 1200 bytes is larger than 1152 bytes [-Werror=frame-larger-than=]

This is harmless by itself, but it shows two other problems in
the driver:

- It still tries to be generic enough to handle all kinds of serial
  ports, where in reality the driver has been 8250-only for a while,
  and every other uart has its own DT support

- As a result of that generalization, we keep two copies of
  'struct uart_port' on the stack during probe(). This is completely
  unnessary.

Removing the last code dealing with unsupported port_type values
solves both problems nicely, and reduces the stack size.

Manuel Schölling bcd375f7f7 console: Add callback to flush scrollback buffer to consw struct
This new callback is in preparation for persistent scrollback buffer
support for VGA consoles.
With a single scrollback buffer for all consoles, we could flush the
buffer just by invocating consw->con_switch(). But when each VGA console
has its own scrollback buffer, we need a new callback to tell the
video console driver which buffer to flush.

Paul Gortmaker f99b63afb9 serial: hp300: mask the warning for people just doing build coverage
Currently this warning is triggered for allmodconfig on m68k.  It is
well intentioned, in that if you are building the driver but not
enabling one of the platforms where the hardware exists, you get a
warning.

The warning dates back to pre-git days, and now we have COMPILE_TEST
so we can use that to mask the warning for people who are obviously
just doing build coverage on tree wide changes.

Vignesh R 75f54acc08 serial: 8250_omap: pause DMA only if DMA transfer in progress
It is possible that DMA transfer is already complete but, completion
handler is yet to be called, when dmaengine_pause() is called in case of
error condition(like break/rx timeout). This leads to dmaengine_pause()
API to return EINVAL (as descriptor is already NULL) causing
rx_dma_broken flag to be set and effectively disabling RX DMA.
Fix this by calling dmaengine_pause() only when transfer is in progress.

Alan Cox ed3f0af8c0 tty_port: allow a port to be opened with a tty that has no file handle
Let us create tty objects entirely in kernel space. Untested proposal to
show why all the ideas around rewriting half the uart stack are not needed.

With this a kernel created non file backed tty object could be used to handle
data, and set terminal modes. Not all ldiscs can cope with this as N_TTY in
particular has to work back to the fs/tty layer.

The tty_port code is however otherwise clean of file handles as far as I can
tell as is the low level tty port write path used by the ldisc, the
configuration low level interfaces and most of the ldiscs.

Currently you don't have any exposure to see tty hangups because those are
built around the file layer. However a) it's a fixed port so you probably
don't care about that b) if you do we can add a callback and c) you almost
certainly don't want the userspace tear down/rebuild behaviour anyway.

This should however be sufficient if we wanted for example to enumerate all
the bluetooth bound fixed ports via ACPI and make them directly available.
It doesn't deal with the case of a user opening a port that's also kernel
opened and that would need some locking out (so it returned EBUSY if bound
to a kernel device of some kind). That needs resolving along with how you
"up" or "down" your new bluetooth device, or enumerate it while providing
the existing tty API to avoid regressions (and to debug).

Martin Blumenstingl 8c9faa556a tty: serial: meson: allow baud-rates higher than 115200
The vendor driver allows setting baud-rates higher than 115200 baud.
There is a check in the vendor driver which prevents using more than
115200 baud during startup, however it does not have such a check in
.set_termios.
Higher baud-rates are often used by the bluetooth modules embedded into
the SDIO wifi chips (Amlogic devices use brcmfmac based wifi chips quite
often, 2000000 baud seems to be a common value for the UART baud-rate in
Amlogic's "libbt").

I have tested this on a Meson GXL device with uart_A (to which the
bluetooth module is connected, where initialization times out with
115200 baud) and uart_AO (which I manually set to 2000000 baud  and then
connected with my USB UART adapter to that).

Rob Herring 9ed90d2044 tty: move the non-file related parts of tty_release to new tty_release_struct
For in-kernel tty users, we need to be able to create and destroy
'struct tty' that are not associated with a file. The creation side is
fine, but tty_release() needs to be split into the file handle portion
and the struct tty portion. Introduce a new function, tty_release_struct,
to handle just the destroying of a struct tty.

Add DT earlycon for omap_serial driver. This boot console is included
with CONFIG_SERIAL_EARLYCON=y, CONFIG_OF=y, CONFIG_SERIAL_OMAP=y, and
CONFIG_OF_EARLY_FLATTREE=y.

This boot console is enabled with the command line option "earlycon"
(without "=<name>...") when the DT 'stdout-path' property matches a
compatible uart.

There is no need to set PCI bus mastering when device is not doing any DMA. It
includes MSI type of interrupts. Currently only UART on Denverton, which is DMA

Jason Uy 6a171b2993 serial: 8250_dw: Allow hardware flow control to be used
In the most common use case, the Synopsys DW UART driver does not
set the set_termios callback function.  This prevents UPSTAT_AUTOCTS
from being set when the UART flag CRTSCTS is set.  As a result, the
driver will use software flow control as opposed to hardware flow
control.

To fix the problem, the set_termios callback function is set to the
DW specific function.  The logic to set UPSTAT_AUTOCTS is moved so
that any clock error will not affect setting the hardware flow
control.

Laurent Pinchart dfc80387ae serial: sh-sci: Compute the regshift value for SCI ports
SCI instances found in SH SoCs have different spacing between registers
depending on the SoC. The platform data contains a regshift field that
tells the driver by how many bits to shift the register offset to
compute its address. We can compute the regshift value automatically
based on the memory resource size, there's no need to pass the value
through platform data.

Fix the sh7750 SCI and sh7760 SIM port memory resources length to ensure
proper computation of the regshift value.

Laurent Pinchart d5cb1319a9 serial: sh-sci: Remove manual break debouncing
The sh-sci driver implements manual break debouncing for a few SH
platforms by reading the value of the RX pin port register. This feature
is optional and the driver considers all negative or zero values of the
platform data port_reg field as invalid. As the four platforms that set
the field to a register address all use an address higher than
0x7fffffff, the driver will always consider the value as invalid and
never perform debouncing. The feature is unused, remove it.

Debouncing could be implemented properly in the future using the pinctrl
and GPIO APIs if desired.

Davidlohr Bueso 642fa448ae sched/core: Remove set_task_state()
This is a nasty interface and setting the state of a foreign task must
not be done. As of the following commit:

  be628be095 ("bcache: Make gc wakeup sane, remove set_task_state()")

... everyone in the kernel calls set_task_state() with current, allowing
the helper to be removed.

However, as the comment indicates, it is still around for those archs
where computing current is more expensive than using a pointer, at least
in theory. An important arch that is affected is arm64, however this has
been addressed now [1] and performance is up to par making no difference
with either calls.

Of all the callers, if any, it's the locking bits that would care most
about this -- ie: we end up passing a tsk pointer to a lot of the lock
slowpath, and setting ->state on that. The following numbers are based
on two tests: a custom ad-hoc microbenchmark that just measures
latencies (for ~65 million calls) between get_task_state() vs
get_current_state().

Secondly for a higher overview, an unlink microbenchmark was used,
which pounds on a single file with open, close,unlink combos with
increasing thread counts (up to 4x ncpus). While the workload is quite
unrealistic, it does contend a lot on the inode mutex or now rwsem.

Davidlohr Bueso 5376f2e722 drivers/tty: Compute 'current' directly
This patch effectively replaces the tsk pointer dereference
(which is obviously == current), to directly use get_current()
macro. This is to make the removal of setting foreign task
states smoother and painfully obvious. Performance win on some
archs such as x86-64 and ppc64 -- arm64 is no longer an issue.

David Lechner a2d6a987bf serial: 8250: Add new port type for TI DA8xx/66AK2x
This adds a new UART port type for TI DA8xx/OMAPL13x/AM17xx/AM18xx/66AK2x.
These SoCs have standard 8250 registers plus some extra non-standard
registers.

The UART will not function unless the non-standard Power and Emulation
Management Register (PWREMU_MGMT) is configured correctly. This is
currently handled in arch/arm/mach-davinci/serial.c for non-device-tree
boards. Making this part of the UART driver will allow UART to work on
device-tree boards as well and the mach code can eventually be removed.

don't know if the user wants it built-in or as a module. Hiding the
option prevents the user from making that decision.

This is even more problematic when said option selects other options.
You end up with several device drivers forcibly built into the kernel.

In this specific case, drivers 8250_mid, virt-dma, hsu_dma and
hsu_dma_pci end up being built-in as soon as SERIAL_8250=y. It is
very common for distribution kernels to build the subsystem core code
into the kernel, because almost everybody will need it, but build all
the device drivers as modules. This should be made possible.

So drop the "if EXPERT" and make SERIAL_8250_MID visible.

In this specific case, drivers 8250_lpss, dw_dmac_core and
dw_dmac_pci end up being built-in as soon as SERIAL_8250=y. It is
very common for distribution kernels to build the subsystem core code
into the kernel, because almost everybody will need it, but build all
the device drivers as modules. This should be made possible.

So drop the "if EXPERT" and make SERIAL_8250_LPSS visible.

Jean Delvare f1e8c710e2 serial: 8250_pci: make option visible
Hiding tristate options with "if EXPERT" is usually not a good idea.
You can decide that the driver should be included by default, but you
don't know if the user wants it built-in or as a module. Hiding the
option prevents the user from making that decision.

In this specific case, driver 8250_pci ends up being built-in as soon
as SERIAL_8250=y. It is very common for distribution kernels to build

Fabio Estevam 7b7e8e8e8f serial: imx: Allow passing 'rst-gpios' for rs485 mode
According to Documentation/devicetree/bindings/serial/serial.txt the
generic 'rts-gpios' property can be used to specify the GPIO for RTS
functionality.

Currently it is not possible to use the imx UART port in rs485 mode when
the 'rts-gpios' property is passed in the device tree.

The imx uart driver only checks for the presence of the built-in RTS pin,
via 'uart-has-rtscts' property and disable the rs485 flag if this property
is absent.

So fix this logic by also checking if RTS pin has been passed via GPIO.

Tested on a imx6dl based board.

Problem found via lockdep:

- lpuart_set_termios() calls del_timer_sync(&sport->lpuart_timer) while
  holding sport->port.lock

- sport->lpuart_timer routine is lpuart_timer_func() that calls
  lpuart_copy_rx_to_tty() that acquires same lock.

To fix, move Rx DMA stopping out of lock, as it already is in other places
in the same file.

While at it, also make Rx DMA start/stop code to look the same is in
other places in the same file.

Pan Bian 623ac1d4a5 tty: serial: sh-sci: set error code when kasprintf fails
When the call to kasprintf() returns a NULL pointer, function
sci_request_irq() frees the preallocated memory and returns 0 is
returned. Because 0 means no error, the caller of sci_request_irq()
will keep going, and the freed memory may be used or freed again. To
avoid the above issue, this patch assigns "-ENOMEM" to the return
variable ret.

Akinobu Mita 802c03881f sysrq: attach sysrq handler correctly for 32-bit kernel
The sysrq input handler should be attached to the input device which has
a left alt key.

On 32-bit kernels, some input devices which has a left alt key cannot
attach sysrq handler.  Because the keybit bitmap in struct input_device_id
for sysrq is not correctly initialized.  KEY_LEFTALT is 56 which is
greater than BITS_PER_LONG on 32-bit kernels.

I found this problem when using a matrix keypad device which defines
a KEY_LEFTALT (56) but doesn't have a KEY_O (24 == 56%32).

This commit needs to be reverted because it prevents people from
using the serial console as a secondary console with input being
directed to tty0.

IOW, if you boot with console=ttyS0 console=tty0 then all kernels
prior to this commit will produce output on both ttyS0 and tty0
but input will only be taken from tty0.  With this patch the serial
console will always be the primary console instead of tty0,
potentially preventing people from getting into their machines in
emergency situations.

Daniel Jedrychowski 2bed8a8e70 Clearing FIFOs in RS485 emulation mode causes subsequent transmits to break
When in RS485 emulation mode, __do_stop_tx_rs485() calls
serial8250_clear_fifos().  This not only clears the FIFOs, but also sets
all bits in their control register (UART_FCR) to 0.

One of the effects of this is the disabling of the FIFOs, which turns
them into single-byte holding registers.  The rest of the driver doesn't
know this, which results in the lions share of characters passed into a
write call to be dropped.

(I can supply logic analyzer screenshots if necessary)

This fix replaces the serial8250_clear_fifos() call to
serial8250_clear_and_reinit_fifos() - this prevents the "dropped
characters" issue from manifesting again while retaining the requirement
of clearing the RX FIFO after transmission if the SER_RS485_RX_DURING_TX
flag is disabled.

Gabriel Krisman Bertazi c130b666a9 8250_pci: Fix potential use-after-free in error path
Commit f209fa03fc ("serial: 8250_pci: Detach low-level driver during
PCI error recovery") introduces a potential use-after-free in case the
pciserial_init_ports call in serial8250_io_resume fails, which may
happen if a memory allocation fails or if the .init quirk failed for
whatever reason).  If this happen, further pci_get_drvdata will return a
pointer to freed memory.

This patch reworks the PCI recovery resume hook to restore the old priv
structure in this case, which should be ok, since the ports were already
detached. Such error during recovery causes us to give up on the
recovery.

Richard Genoud b389f173aa tty/serial: atmel: RS485 half duplex w/DMA: enable RX after TX is done
When using RS485 in half duplex, RX should be enabled when TX is
finished, and stopped when TX starts.

Before commit 0058f0871e ("tty/serial: atmel: fix RS485 half
duplex with DMA"), RX was not disabled in atmel_start_tx() if the DMA
was used. So, collisions could happened.

But disabling RX in atmel_start_tx() uncovered another bug:
RX was enabled again in the wrong place (in atmel_tx_dma) instead of
being enabled when TX is finished (in atmel_complete_tx_dma), so the
transmission simply stopped.

This bug was not triggered before commit 0058f0871e
("tty/serial: atmel: fix RS485 half duplex with DMA") because RX was
never disabled before.

Moving atmel_start_rx() in atmel_complete_tx_dma() corrects the problem.

This happens when the 8250 serial controller is hotplugged as follows:
echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:00:1a.0/remove

This trace happens due to the serial port still holding a reference when
the dma device is unregistered.
The dma unregister routine will check if there is still a reference exist,
if so it will give the WARNING(here serial port still was not unregister).

To fix this, We need to unregister the serial port first, then do DMA
device unregister to make sure there is no reference when to DMA routine.

Eugeniy Paltsev bd2c6636cc dmaengine: DW DMAC: add multi-block property to device tree
Several versions of DW DMAC have multi block transfers hardware
support. Hardware support of multi block transfers is disabled
by default if we use DT to configure DMAC and software emulation
of multi block transfers used instead.
Add multi-block property, so it is possible to enable hardware
multi block transfers (if present) via DT.

Switch from per device is_nollp variable to multi_block array
to be able enable/disable multi block transfers separately per
channel.

When running certain workload on a debug kernel with lockdep turned on,
a ppc64 kvm guest could sometimes hit the following lockdep warning:

Looking at the console code, the console_lock-->mmap_sem scenario will
only happen when reading or writing the console unicode map leading to
a page fault.

To break this circular locking dependency, all the userspace I/O
operations in consolemap.c are now moved outside of the console_lock
critical sections so that the mmap_sem won't be acquired when holding
the console_lock.

Testing with a gcc-7 snapshot produced an internal compiler error
for this file:

I've reported this at https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=78569
but also noticed that the code line contains a stack overflow, as it prints
a string into a slightly shorter fixed-length 'tmp' variable.

A lot of the code here is unnecessary and can be expressed in a simpler
way, relying on the fact that removing the 'DEBUG' macro will also get
rid of all pr_debug() calls. This change should not change any of the
output but avoids both the stack overflow and the gcc crash.

The stack overflow will not happen unless a module load parameter is
also set to enable the debug messages.

Gabriel Krisman Bertazi f209fa03fc serial: 8250_pci: Detach low-level driver during PCI error recovery
During a PCI error recovery, like the ones provoked by EEH in the ppc64
platform, all IO to the device must be blocked while the recovery is
completed.  Current 8250_pci implementation only suspends the port
instead of detaching it, which doesn't prevent incoming accesses like
TIOCMGET and TIOCMSET calls from reaching the device.  Those end up
racing with the EEH recovery, crashing it.  Similar races were also
observed when opening the device and when shutting it down during
recovery.

This patch implements a more robust IO blockage for the 8250_pci
recovery by unregistering the port at the beginning of the procedure and
re-adding it afterwards.  Since the port is detached from the uart
layer, we can be sure that no request will make through to the device
during recovery.  This is similar to the solution used by the JSM serial
driver.

Wolfgang Ocker b810645473 mxs-auart: count FIFO overrun errors
The mxs-auart driver does not count FIFO overrun errors. These errors never
appear in /proc/tty/driver/ttyAPP. This is because the OERR status bit is
masked by read_status_mask in the rx interrupt function, but the
AUART_STAT_OERR bit is never set in read_status_mask. The patch enables the
counting of overrun errors.

Maciej S. Szmigiero 31b5929d53 vt: fix Scroll Lock LED trigger name
There is a disagreement between drivers/tty/vt/keyboard.c and
drivers/input/input-leds.c with regard to what is a Scroll Lock LED
trigger name: input calls it "kbd-scrolllock", but vt calls it
"kbd-scrollock" (two l's).
This prevents Scroll Lock LED trigger from binding to this LED by default.

Since it is a scroLL Lock LED, this interface was introduced only about a
year ago and in an Internet search people seem to reference this trigger
only to set it to this LED let's simply rename it to "kbd-scrolllock".

Also, it looks like this was supposed to be changed before this code was
merged: https://lkml.org/lkml/2015/6/9/697 but it was done only on
the input side.

Hi,
below patch to fix Fourth port offset of Percom PI7C9X7954 boards.

I had a problem using Fourth port on a pci express serial board based on Pericom
PI7C9X7954. Reading datasheet I notice a "special" offset assign to this port
when used in I/O mode.

Offset 0x0 ->  UART 0
Offset 0x8 ->  UART 1
Offset 0x10 ->  UART 2
Offset 0x38 ->  UART 3  <<---- This don't follow a logical sequence

This patch add a different init to last port, to have right offset.

I check also Pericom 7952 and 7958 but that devices follow logical sequence,
so they are ok.

Paul Gortmaker 146b4d5b36 tty: serial: make crisv10 explicitly non-modular
The Kconfig currently controlling compilation of this code is:

arch/cris/arch-v10/drivers/Kconfig:config ETRAX_SERIAL
arch/cris/arch-v10/drivers/Kconfig:     bool "Serial-port support"

...meaning that it currently is not being built as a module by anyone.

Lets remove the couple traces of modular infrastructure use, so that
when reading the driver there is no doubt it is builtin-only.

Since module_init translates to device_initcall in the non-modular
case, the init ordering remains unchanged with this commit.

We don't replace module.h with init.h since the file already has that.

The newly added pxa glue driver for 8250 supports console output, but
fails to build if the 8250 console is disabled:

Masahiro Yamada da7fa058a3 serial: 8250_uniphier: avoid locking for FCR register write
The hardware book says, the FCR is combined with a register called
CHAR (it will trigger interrupt when a specific character is
received).  At first, I used lock/read/modify/write/unlock dance for
the FCR to not affect the upper bits, but the CHAR is actually never
used.  It should not hurt to always clear the CHAR and to handle the
FCR as a normal case.  It can save the costly locking.

Masahiro Yamada 94cbb6978b serial: 8250_uniphier: hardcode regshift to avoid unneeded memory read
For this driver, uart_port::regshift is always 2.  Hardcode the
shift value instead of reading ->regshift to get an already known
value.  (pointed out by Denys Vlasenko)

Furthermore, I am using register macros that are already shifted,
which will save code a bit.

The problem is for console ports, the serial port is not shutdown and
interrupts may fire after the struct tty is gone. Simply calling the
tty_port helper tty_port_tty_wakeup instead of tty_wakeup directly will

Geert Uytterhoeven 4dda864d73 tty: serial_core: Fix serial console crash on port shutdown
The port->console flag is always false, as uart_console() is called
before the serial console has been registered.

Hence for a serial port used as the console, uart_tty_port_shutdown()
will still be called when userspace closes the port, powering it down.
This may lead to a system lock up when the serial console driver writes
to the serial port's registers.

To fix this, move the setting of port->console after the call to
uart_configure_port(), which registers the serial console.

Richard Genoud 9bcffe7575 tty/serial: at91: fix hardware handshake on Atmel platforms
After commit 1cf6e8fc83 ("tty/serial: at91: fix RTS line management
when hardware handshake is enabled"), the hardware handshake wasn't
functional anymore on Atmel platforms (beside SAMA5D2).

To understand why, one has to understand the flag ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS
first:
Before commit 1cf6e8fc83 ("tty/serial: at91: fix RTS line management
when hardware handshake is enabled"), this flag was never set.
Thus, the CTS/RTS where only handled by serial_core (and everything
worked just fine).

This commit introduced the use of the ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS flag,
enabling it for all boards when the user space enables flow control.

When the ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS is set, the Atmel USART controller
handles a part of the flow control job:
- disable the transmitter when the CTS pin gets high.
- drive the RTS pin high when the DMA buffer transfer is completed or
  PDC RX buffer full or RX FIFO is beyond threshold. (depending on the
  controller version).

NB: This feature is *not* mandatory for the flow control to work.
(Nevertheless, it's very useful if low latencies are needed.)

Now, the specifics of the ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS flag:

- For platforms with DMAC and no FIFOs (sam9x25, sam9x35, sama5D3,
sama5D4, sam9g15, sam9g25, sam9g35)* this feature simply doesn't work.

Tested it on sam9g35, the RTS pins always stays up, even when RXEN=1
or a new DMA transfer descriptor is set.
=> ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS must not be used for those platforms

- For platforms with a PDC (sam926{0,1,3}, sam9g10, sam9g20, sam9g45,
sam9g46)*, there's another kind of problem. Once the flag
ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS is set, the RTS pin can't be driven anymore via
RTSEN/RTSDIS in USART Control Register. The RTS pin can only be driven
by enabling/disabling the receiver or setting RCR=RNCR=0 in the PDC
(Receive (Next) Counter Register).
=> Doing this is beyond the scope of this patch and could add other
bugs, so the original (and working) behaviour should be set for those
platforms (meaning ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS flag should be unset).

- For platforms with a FIFO (sama5d2)*, the RTS pin is driven according
to the RX FIFO thresholds, and can be also driven by RTSEN/RTSDIS in
USART Control Register. No problem here.
(This was the use case of commit 1cf6e8fc83 ("tty/serial: at91: fix
RTS line management when hardware handshake is enabled"))
NB: If the CTS pin declared as a GPIO in the DTS, (for instance
cts-gpios = <&pioA PIN_PB31 GPIO_ACTIVE_LOW>), the transmitter will be
disabled.
=> ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS flag can be set for this platform ONLY IF the
CTS pin is not a GPIO.

So, the only case when ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS can be enabled is when
(atmel_use_fifo(port) &&
 !mctrl_gpio_to_gpiod(atmel_port->gpios, UART_GPIO_CTS))

Tested on all Atmel USART controller flavours:
AT91SAM9G35-CM (DMAC flavour), AT91SAM9G20-EK (PDC flavour),
SAMA5D2xplained (FIFO flavour).
