Make sure processes waiting for modem-status changes are woken up at
disconnect.
This is needed for custom subdriver TIOCMIWAIT-implementations which do
not yet handle hangup.
Even though processes on the tty-port wait queue are woken up at hangup
the wake-up call in usb-serial disconnect is still needed if a woken-up
process may go back to sleep (e.g. due to an incomplete
TIOCMIWAIT-implementation). If a disconnect occurs after a hangup, any
process waiting for changes will not be woken up a second time by the
tty-layer as the port will then have been disassociated from the tty.

Add generic TIOCMIWAIT implementation which correctly handles hangup,
USB-device disconnect, does not rely on the deprecated sleep_on
functions and hence does not suffer from the races currently affecting
several usb-serial drivers.
This makes it much easier to add TIOCMIWAIT support to subdrivers as the
tricky details related to hangup and disconnect (e.g. atomicity, that
the private port data may have been freed when woken up, and waking up
processes at disconnect) have been handled once and for all.
To add support to a subdriver, simply set the tiocmiwait-port-operation
field, update the port icount fields and wake up any process sleeping on
the tty-port modem-status-change wait queue on changes.
Note that the tty-port initialised flag can be used to detect
disconnected as the port will be hung up as part of disconnect (and
cannot be reactivated due to the disconnected flag). However, as the
tty-port implementation currently wakes up processes before calling port
shutdown, the tty-hupping flag must also be checked to detect hangup for
now.

Make sure to unregister the tty-device before calling subdriver
port_remove.
This way remove will reverse probe, and specifically any port data
released in port_remove will be available throughout tty unregister.
Note that the order currently does not matter as the tty-layer can make
callbacks also after the device has been unregistered. This is
handled in usb-serial core using the disconnected flag, which is
already set when usb-serial bus device remove is called.

Remove the port data refcounting and release the private data
explicitly at port remove.
The port data refcounting was used to make sure the port data was not
freed until the last tty reference was closed. Since moving over to tty
ports, the underlying assumptions are no longer valid as close is now
called as part of tty port shutdown, which can occur before the final
tty reference is dropped on device disconnect.
This means that the private port data refcounting is now completely
useless, as the last reference will always be dropped on port_remove.

When switching to tty ports, some lifetime assumptions were changed.
Specifically, close can now be called before the final tty reference is
dropped as part of hangup at device disconnect. Even with the ftdi
private-data refcounting this means that the port private data can be
freed while a process is sleeping on modem-status changes and thus
cannot be relied on to detect disconnects when woken up.

that prevented qt2_process_read_urb() from trying to put chars into
ttys that weren't actually opened. This resulted in 'tty is NULL'
warnings from flush_to_ldisc() when the device was used.
The devices use just one read urb for all ports. As a result
qt2_process_read_urb() may be called with the current port set to a
port number that has not been opened. Add a check if the port is open

The USB device descriptor of one identity presented by a few
Huawei morphing devices have serial functions with class codes
02/02/ff, indicating CDC ACM with a vendor specific protocol. This
combination is often used for MSFT RNDIS functions, and the CDC
ACM class driver will therefore ignore such functions.
The CDC ACM class driver cannot support functions with only 2
endpoints. The underlying serial functions of these modems are
also believed to be the same as for alternate device identities
already supported by the option driver. Letting the same driver
handle these functions independently of the current identity
ensures consistent handling and user experience.
There is no need to blacklist these devices in the rndis_host
driver. Huawei serial functions will either have only 2 endpoints
or a CDC ACM functional descriptor with bmCapabilities != 0, making
them correctly ignored as "non RNDIS" by that driver.

Make sure serial-driver dtr_rts is called with disc_mutex held after
checking the disconnected flag.
Due to a bug in the tty layer, dtr_rts may get called after a device has
been disconnected and the tty-device unregistered. Some drivers have had
individual checks for disconnect to make sure the disconnected interface
was not accessed, but this should really be handled in usb-serial core
(at least until the long-standing tty-bug has been fixed).
Note that the problem has been made more acute with commit 0998d06310
("device-core: Ensure drvdata = NULL when no driver is bound") as the
port data is now also NULL when dtr_rts is called resulting in further
oopses.

The option allows you to remove TTY and compile without errors. This
saves space on systems that won't support TTY interfaces anyway.
bloat-o-meter output is below.
The bulk of this patch consists of Kconfig changes adding "depends on
TTY" to various serial devices and similar drivers that require the TTY
layer. Ideally, these dependencies would occur on a common intermediate
symbol such as SERIO, but most drivers "select SERIO" rather than
"depends on SERIO", and "select" does not respect dependencies.
bloat-o-meter output comparing our previous minimal to new minimal by
removing TTY. The list is filtered to not show removed entries with awk
'$3 != "-"' as the list was very long.

Now, we start converting tty buffer functions to actually use
tty_port. This will allow us to get rid of the need of tty in many
call sites. Only tty_port will needed and hence no more
tty_port_tty_get in those paths.
Now, the one where most of tty_port_tty_get gets removed:
tty_flip_buffer_push.
IOW we also closed all the races in drivers not using tty_port_tty_get

Here's the big set of USB patches for 3.8-rc1.
Lots of USB host driver cleanups in here, and a bit of a reorg of the
EHCI driver to make it easier for the different EHCI platform drivers to
all work together nicer, which was a reduction in overall code. We also
deleted some unused firmware files, and got rid of the very old
file_storage usb gadget driver that had been broken for a long time.
This means we ended up removing way more code than added, always a nice
thing to see:
310 files changed, 3028 insertions(+), 10754 deletions(-)
Other than that, the usual set of new device ids, driver fixes, gadget
driver and controller updates and the like.

After commit "TTY: move tty buffers to tty_port", the tty buffers are
not freed in some drivers. This is because tty_port_destructor is not
called whenever a tty_port is freed. This was an assumption I counted
with but was unfortunately untrue. So fix the drivers to fulfil this
assumption.
To be sure, the TTY buffers (and later some stuff) are gone along with
the tty_port, we have to call tty_port_destroy at tear-down places.
This is mostly where the structure containing a tty_port is freed.
This patch does exactly that -- put tty_port_destroy at those places.

The driver does not wait until the hardware buffer (for data from the PC to the
UART line) is drained when tcdrain or close is called in an application.
Solution: Implement a chars_in_buffer function that checks both the software
and hardware buffer. If the TEMT (TX empty) bit of the line status register
indicates the hw buffer is not empty, let the function return at least 1. This
has been verified to work correctly with an FT232RL. The check on the hw buffer
can not be done for the original SIO device.

Fix port-data memory leak in usb-serial probe error path by moving port
data allocation to port_probe.
Since commit a1028f0abf ("usb: usb_wwan: replace release and disconnect

leaves a possibility for memory leaks if usb-serial probe fails after
attach but before the port in question has been successfully registered.

path of attach should port initialisation fail for any port as the urbs
were never freed and neither was the data of any of the successfully
initialised ports.

Note that the call to kill the read urb is not redundant, as mct_u232
uses an interrupt urb from the second port as the read urb and that
generic close therefore fails to kill it.

This patch (as1615) fixes a bug in the Garmin USB serial driver. It
uses attach, disconnect, and release routines to carry out actions
that should be handled by port_probe and port_remove routines, because
they access port-specific data.
The bug causes an oops when the device in unplugged, because the
private data for each port structure now gets erased when the port is
unbound from the driver, resulting in a null-pointer dereference.

It's out-dated for the tty-layer stuff, and would require a bunch of
work. That's not really a big deal, the big issue is that there is no
company contact for the hardware, so questions we have about it (like
why isn't this just handled by the cdc-acm driver instead?) go
unanswered.
So drop the driver. If someone comes along to help answer the
questions, we can easily revert this and fix up the code.

This patch adds new functions to upload firmware to the controller. The
drivers currently using ezusb are adapted to use these new functions.
This also fixes a bug occuring during firmware loading in the
whiteheat-driver:
The driver iterates over an ihex-formatted firmware using ++ on a "const
struct ihex_binrec*" which leads to faulty results, because ihex data is
read as length. The function "ihex_next_binrec(record)" has so be used
to work correctly

Here's a driver for the Vizzini USB to serial device.
It looks to be copied from cdc-acm, and probably can be cleaned up a lot
more. Also, there's some odd "try to grab another interface" that is
probably wrong. And, if this really is a cdc-acm device, it probably
should just be a quirk of the cdc-acm device, but I can't figure that
out, and people have been using this driver for a long time now. So
merge it to let people use their hardware and clean it up over time.
Driver written by Rob Duncan but cleaned up and forward ported to the
latest kernel tree by me.

This adds a driver for the zte_ev set of usb to serial devices. It is
based on a patch floating around the internet that modified the generic
usb-serial driver to only work for this type of device.
I've left comments in the code that I think show the data commands being
sent to the device, which I'm guessing come from a usb analyzer. Maybe
they can help others out as well.
Many thanks to nirinA raseliarison for pointing the original patch out

The Microchip vid:pid 04d8:000a is used for their CDC ACM
demo firmware application. This is a device with a single
function conforming to the CDC ACM specification and with
the intention of demonstrating CDC ACM class firmware and
driver interaction. The demo is used on a number of
development boards, and may also be used unmodified by
vendors using Microchip hardware.
Some vendors have re-used this vid:pid for other types of
firmware, emulating FTDI chips. Attempting to continue to
support such devices without breaking class based
applications that by matching on interface
class/subclass/proto being ff/ff/00. I have no information
about the actual device or interface descriptors, but this
will at least make the proper CDC ACM devices work again.
Anyone having details of the offending device's descriptors
should update this entry with the details.

Bjorn's latest patchset does break Gobi 1K and 2K because on both
devices as it claims usb interface 0. That's because usbif 0 is not
handled in the switch statement, and thus the if0 gets claimed when it
should not. So let's just make things even simpler yet, and handle both
the 1K and 2K+ cases separately. This patch should not affect the new

Some usb-serial drivers may access port data in their suspend/
resume functions. Such drivers must always verify the validity
of the data as both suspend and resume can be called both before
usb_serial_device_probe and after usb_serial_device_remove.
But the port data may be invalidated during port_probe and
port_remove. This patch prevents the race against suspend and
resume by disabling suspend while port_probe or port_remove is
running.

The QMI mode of the Sierra Wireless MC7710 is close to
a Gobi device, and also identified as one by the
Windows drivers provided by Sony. The serial interfaces
are the same as for any other Gobi module, but the USB
interface layout is different:
0: DM/DIAG (also present in bootloader mode)
2: NMEA
3: AT-capable modem port
8: QMI/net
19: QMI/net (not always present)
20: QMI/net (not always present)
Note in particular that the NMEA and AT ports are reversed
compared to a Gobi 2k+ device, and that the DM port appears
as a QDL port in bootloader mode using the same device ID.
The Sony driver also document two new devices with standard
Gobi 2k+ layout (1199:68a5, 1199:68a9) having a QDL mode
(1199:68a4, 1199:68a8). Adding these as well.
Lenovo Windows drivers document the USB interface layout
for a few additional Sierra Wireless devices. Adding these
while at it:
- MC7770 (1199:901b) with standard Gobi 2k+ layout
- MC7700 (0f3d:68a2) with the same layout as MC7710
- MC7750 (114f:68a2) with the same layout as MC7710

The usb-serial-generic driver uses different device IDs for its USB
matching and its serial matching. This can lead to problems: The
driver can end up getting bound to a USB interface without being
allowed to bind to the corresponding serial port.
This patch (as1557) fixes the problem by using the same device ID
table (the one that can be altered by the "vendor=" and "product="
module parameters) for both purposes. The unused table is removed.
Now the driver will bind only to the intended devices.

So we end up with a mismatch between the USB driver and the
USB serial driver. The reason for the above is simple: The
USB driver probe will succeed if *any* registered serial
driver matches, and will use that serial driver for all
serial driver functions.
This makes ref counting go wrong. We count the USB driver
as used, but not the USB serial driver. This may result
in Oops'es as demonstrated by Johan Hovold <jhovold@gmail.com>:

Fix by only evaluating serial drivers pointing back to the
USB driver we are currently probing. This still allows two
or more drivers to match the same device, running their
serial driver probes to sort out which one to use.

A few patches ago, I removed the reset_resume callback in this driver.
Now that the usb-serial core supports reset_resume, put this driver
callback back as well, so it should work identically to how it was
originally.
Now if this function really is doing what it should be doing, well,
that's a different story, but we are at least doing the identical thing
that we were before...

With a previous patch, the usb_driver suspend/resume callbacks got
overridden and were never called if a usb_serial driver defined them.
This patch fixes the opticon driver to move the suspend/resume callbacks
into the usb_serial_driver structure where they will be properly called.
It then removes the unused usb_driver structure.

This reworks the usb_serial_register_drivers() and
usb_serial_deregister_drivers() to not need a pointer to a struct
usb_driver anymore. The usb_driver structure is now created dynamically
and registered and unregistered as needed.
This saves lines of code in each usb-serial driver. All in-kernel users
of these functions were also fixed up at this time. The pl2303 driver
was tested that everything worked properly.

This patch (as1551) cleans up the PM-related entries in the usb_driver
structures of the various USB serial driver modules. Those entries
are now filled in by the usb-serial core during driver registration,
so they don't need to be initialized explicitly in the source code.
The same is true of the one remaining no_dynamic_id entry.
reset_resume remains a small problem, because the serial core doesn't
support it. The patch ignores these entries.

This patch (as1550) fixes a bug in the usb-serial core that affects
the ftdi_sio driver and most likely others as well. The core
implements suspend and resume routines, but it doesn't store pointers
to those routines in the usb_driver structures that it registers,
even though it does set those drivers' supports_autosuspend flag. The
end result is that when one of these devices is autosuspended, we try
to call through a NULL pointer.
The patch fixes the problem by setting the suspend and resume method
pointers to the appropriate routines in the USB serial core, along
with the supports_autosuspend field, in each driver as it is
registered.
This should be back-ported to all the stable kernels that have the new
usb_serial_register_drivers() interface.

dbg() was used a lot a long time ago to trace code flow. Now that we have
ftrace, this isn't needed at all, so remove these calls.
