During dlm domain shutdown, o2dlm has to free all the lock resources. Ones that
have no locks and references are freed. Ones that have locks and/or references
are migrated to another node.
The first task in migration is finding a target. Currently we scan the lock
resource and find one node that either has a lock or a reference. This is not
very efficient in a parallel umount case as we might end up migrating the
lock resource to a node which itself may have to migrate it to a third node.
The patch scans the dlm->exit_domain_map to ensure the target node is not
leaving the domain. If no valid target node is found, o2dlm does not migrate
the resource but instead waits for the unlock and deref messages that will
allow it to free the resource.

This patch adds a new dlm message DLM_BEGIN_EXIT_DOMAIN_MSG and ups the dlm
protocol to 1.2.
o2dlm sends this new message in dlm_unregister_domain() to mark the beginning
of the exit domain. This message is sent to all nodes in the domain.
Currently o2dlm has no way of informing other nodes of its impending exit.
This information is useful as the other nodes could disregard the exiting
node in certain operations. For example, in resource migration. If two or
more nodes were umounting in parallel, it would be more efficient if o2dlm
were to choose a non-exiting node to be the new master node rather than an
exiting one.

During resource migration, if the target node were to die, the thread doing
the migration spins until the target node is not removed from the domain map.
This patch slows the spin by making the thread wait for the recovery to kick in.

Patch fixes a bug in the o2dlm protocol negotiation in that it is using
the builtin version rather than the negotiated version during the domain
join. This causes join errors when a node having kernel >= 2.6.37 joins
a cluster with nodes having kernels < 2.6.37.
This only affects the o2cb cluster stack.

mlog_exit is used to record the exit status of a function.
But because it is added in so many functions, if we enable it,
the system logs get filled up quickly and cause too much I/O.
So actually no one can open it for a production system or even
for a test.
This patch just try to remove it or change it. So:
1. if all the error paths already use mlog_errno, it is just removed.
Otherwise, it will be replaced by mlog_errno.
2. if it is used to print some return value, it is replaced with
mlog(0,...).
mlog_exit_ptr is changed to mlog(0.
All those mlog(0,...) will be replaced with trace events later.

This patch adds support for pinning o2hb regions in configfs. Pinning disallows
a region to be cleanly stopped as long as it has an active dependent user
(read o2dlm).
In local heartbeat mode, the region uuid matching the domain name is pinned as
long as the o2dlm domain is active.
In global heartbeat mode, all regions are pinned as long as there is atleast
one dependent user and the region count is 3 or less. All regions are unpinned
if the number of dependent users is zero or region count is greater than 3.

o2dlm was not migrating resources with zero locks because it assumed that that
resource would get purged by dlm_thread. However, some usage patterns involve
creating and dropping locks at a high rate leading to the migrate thread seeing
zero locks but the purge thread seeing an active reference. When this happens,
the dlm_thread cannot purge the resource and the migrate thread sees no reason
to migrate that resource. The spell is broken when the migrate thread catches
the resource with a lock.
The fix is to make the migrate thread also consider the reference map.
This usage pattern can be triggered by userspace on userdlm locks and flocks.

While umounting, a block mle doesn't get freed if dlm is shutdown after
master request is received but before assert master. This results in unclean
shutdown of dlm domain.
This patch frees all mles that lie around after other nodes were notified about
exiting the dlm and marking dlm state as leaving. Only block mles are expected
to be around, so we log ERROR for other mles but still free them.

When we need to take both dlm_domain_lock and dlm->spinlock, we should take
them in order of: dlm_domain_lock then dlm->spinlock.
There is pathes disobey this order. That is calling dlm_lockres_put() with
dlm->spinlock held in dlm_run_purge_list. dlm_lockres_put() calls dlm_put() at
the ref and dlm_put() locks on dlm_domain_lock.
Fix:
Don't grab/put the dlm when the initialising/releasing lockres.
That grab is not required because we don't call dlm_unregister_domain()
based on refcount.

In the following situation, there remains an incorrect bit in refmap on the
recovery master. Finally the recovery master will fail at purging the lockres
due to the incorrect bit in refmap.
1) node A has no interest on lockres A any longer, so it is purging it.
2) the owner of lockres A is node B, so node A is sending de-ref message
to node B.
3) at this time, node B crashed. node C becomes the recovery master. it recovers
lockres A(because the master is the dead node B).
4) node A migrated lockres A to node C with a refbit there.
5) node A failed to send de-ref message to node B because it crashed. The failure
is ignored. no other action is done for lockres A any more.
For mormal, re-send the deref message to it to recovery master can fix it. Well,
ignoring the failure of deref to the original master and not recovering the lockres
to recovery master has the same effect. And the later is simpler.

This patch fixes two problems in dlm_run_purgelist
1. If a lockres is found to be in use, dlm_run_purgelist keeps trying to purge
the same lockres instead of trying the next lockres.
2. When a lockres is found unused, dlm_run_purgelist releases lockres spinlock
before setting DLM_LOCK_RES_DROPPING_REF and calls dlm_purge_lockres.
spinlock is reacquired but in this window lockres can get reused. This leads
to BUG.
This patch modifies dlm_run_purgelist to skip lockres if it's in use and purge
next lockres. It also sets DLM_LOCK_RES_DROPPING_REF before releasing the
lockres spinlock protecting it from getting reused.

When we have to take both dlm->master_lock and lockres->spinlock,
take them in order
lockres->spinlock and then dlm->master_lock.
The patch fixes a violation of the rule.
We can simply move taking dlm->master_lock to where we have dropped res->spinlock
since when we access res->state and free mle memory we don't need master_lock's
protection.

For migration, we are waiting for DLM_LOCK_RES_MIGRATING flag to be set
before sending DLM_MIG_LOCKRES_MSG message to the target. We are using
dlm_migration_can_proceed() for that purpose. However, if the node is
down, dlm_migration_can_proceed() will also return "go ahead". In this
rare case, the DLM_LOCK_RES_MIGRATING flag might not be set yet. Remove
the BUG_ON() that trips over this condition.

This function is only called from one place and it's like this:
dlm_register_domain(conn->cc_name, dlm_key, &fs_version);
The "conn->cc_name" is 64 characters long. If strlen(conn->cc_name)
were equal to O2NM_MAX_NAME_LEN (64) that would be a bug because
strlen() doesn't count the NULL character.
In fact, if you look how O2NM_MAX_NAME_LEN is used, it mostly describes
64 character buffers. The only exception is nd_name from struct
o2nm_node.
Anyway I looked into it and in this case the domain string comes from
osb->uuid_str in ocfs2_setup_osb_uuid(). That's 32 characters and NULL
which easily fits into O2NM_MAX_NAME_LEN. This patch doesn't change how
the code works, but I think it makes the code a little cleaner.

Currently we process a dirty lockres with the lockres->spinlock taken. While
during the process, we may need to lock on dlm->ast_lock. This breaks the
dependency of dlm->ast_lock(lock first) and lockres->spinlock(lock second).
This patch fixes the problem.
Since we can't release lockres->spinlock, we have to take dlm->ast_lock
just before taking the lockres->spinlock and release it after lockres->spinlock
is released. And use __dlm_queue_bast()/__dlm_queue_ast(), the nolock version,
in dlm_shuffle_lists(). There are no too many locks on a lockres, so there is no
performance harm.

percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.
percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

The script does the followings.
* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.
* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.
* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
file.
The conversion was done in the following steps.
1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
files.
2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
inclusions to around 150 files.
3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.
4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.
5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
necessary.
6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.
7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).
* x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
* powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
* sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
* ia64 SMP allmodconfig
* s390 SMP allmodconfig
* alpha SMP allmodconfig
* um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig
8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.
Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

In o2dlm, the master of a lock resource keeps a map of all interested
nodes. This prevents the master from purging the resource before an
interested node can create a lock.
A race between the mastery thread and the mastery handler allowed an
interested node to discover who the master is without informing the
master directly. This is easily fixed by holding the dlm spinlock a
little longer in the mastery handler.

If a node down event happens while dlm shutdown in progress, dlm recovery
should be done before dlm is shutdown. We can't migrate unrecovered locks,
obviously. But dlm_reco_thread only does recovery if the dlm_state is

o2dlm's userspace filesystem is an easy way to use the DLM from
userspace. It is intentionally simple. For example, it does not allow
for asynchronous behavior or lock conversion. This is intentional to
keep the interface simple.
Because there is no asynchronous notification, there is no way for a
process holding a lock to know another node needs the lock. This is the
number one complaint of ocfs2_dlmfs users. Turns out, we can solve this
very easily. We add poll() support to ocfs2_dlmfs. When a BAST is
received, the lock's file descriptor will receive POLLIN.
This is trivial to implement. Userdlm already has an appropriate
waitqueue, and the lock knows when it is blocked.
We add the "bast" capability to tell userspace this is available.

Over time, dlmfs has added some features that were not part of the
initial ABI. Unfortunately, some of these features are not detectable
via standard usage. For example, Linux's default poll always returns
POLLIN, so there is no way for a caller of poll(2) to know when dlmfs
added poll support. Instead, we provide this list of new capabilities.
Capabilities is a read-only attribute. We do it as a module parameter
so we can discover it whether dlmfs is built in, loaded, or even not
loaded (via modinfo).
The ABI features are local to this machine's dlmfs mount. This is
distinct from the locking protocol, which is concerned with inter-node
interaction.

During recovery, the dlm frees the locks for the dead node. If it finds a
lock in a resource for the dead node, it expects that node to also have a
ref in that lock resource. If not, it BUGs.
ossbz#1175 was filed with the above BUG. Now, while it is correct that we
should be expecting the ref, I see no reason why we have to BUG. After all,
we are freeing up the lock and clearing the ref.
This patch replaces the BUG_ON with a printk(). Hopefully, that will give
us more clues next time this happens.

Mainline commit aad1b15310 made the
dlm_begin_reco_handler() return -EAGAIN instead of EAGAIN.
As this error is transmitted over the wire, we want the receiver,
dlm_send_begin_reco_message(), to understand both the older EAGAIN and
the newer -EAGAIN, to allow rolling upgrade of the cluster nodes.

When a lock resource is migrated, the dlm compares the migrated
locks with that that was already existing on the new node. If the
comparison fails, it BUGs. This patch prints more messages when the
comparison fails inorder to help with the root cause analyis.

During lock resource migration, o2dlm fills the packet with a LVB from the
first valid lock. For sanity, it ensures that the other valid locks have the
same LVB. If not, it BUGs.
The valid locks are ones that have granted EX or PR lock levels and are either
on the Granted or Converting lists. Locks in the Blocked list cannot have a
valid LVB.
This patch ensures that we skip the locks in the Blocked list.

In case a downconvert is queued, and a flock receives a signal,
BUG_ON(lockres->l_action != OCFS2_AST_INVALID) is triggered
because a lock cancel triggers a dlmunlock while an AST is
scheduled.
To avoid this, allow a LKM_CANCEL to pass through, and let it
wait on __dlm_wait_on_lockres().

This patch removes struct dlm_lock_name and adds the entries directly
to struct dlm_master_list_entry. Under the new scheme, both mles that
are backed by a lockres or not, will have the name populated in mle->mname.
This allows us to get rid of code that was figuring out the location of
the mle name.

This patch replaces the lockres counts that tracked the number number of
locally and remotely mastered lockres' with a current and total count. The
total count is the number of lockres' that have been created since the dlm
domain was created.
The number of locally and remotely mastered counts can be computed using
the locking_state output.

The lifetime of a mle is limited to the duration of the lockres mastery
process. While typically this lifetime is fairly short, we have noticed
the number of mles explode under certain circumstances. This patch tracks
the number of each different types of mles and should help us determine
how best to speed up the mastery process.

For master mle, the name it stored in the attached lockres in struct qstr.
For block and migration mle, the name is stored inline in struct dlm_lock_name.
This patch attempts to make struct dlm_lock_name look like a struct qstr. While
we could use struct qstr, we don't because we want to avoid having to malloc
and free the lockname string as the mle's lifetime is fairly short.

In dlm_assert_master_handler(), if we get an incorrect assert master from a node
that, we reply with EINVAL asking the asserter to die. The problem is that an
assert is sent after so many hoops, it is invariably the node that thinks the
asserter is wrong, is actually wrong. So instead of killing the asserter, this
patch kills the assertee.
This patch papers over a race that is still being addressed.

Mainline commit d4f7e650e5 attempts to delay
the dlm_thread from sending the drop ref message if the lockres is being
migrated. The problem is that we make the dlm_thread wait for the migration
to complete. This causes a deadlock as dlm_thread also participates in the
lockres migration process.
A better fix for the original oss bugzilla#1012 is in testing.

dlm_get_lock_resource() is supposed to return a lock resource with a proper
master. If multiple concurrent threads attempt to lookup the lockres for the
same lockid while the lock mastery in underway, one or more threads are likely
to return a lockres without a proper master.
This patch makes the threads wait in dlm_get_lock_resource() while the mastery
is underway, ensuring all threads return the lockres with a proper master.
This issue is known to be limited to users using the flock() syscall. For all
other fs operations, the ocfs2 dlmglue layer serializes the dlm op for each
lockid.
Users encountering this bug will see flock() return EINVAL and dmesg have the
following error:

This patch adds a new lock, dlm->tracking_lock, to protect adding/removing
lockres' to/from the dlm->tracking_list. We were previously using dlm->spinlock
for the same, but that proved inadequate as we could be freeing a lockres from
a context that did not hold that lock. As the new lock only protects this list,
we can explicitly take it when removing the lockres from the tracking list.
This bug was exposed when testing multiple processes concurrently flock() the
same file.

Patch address a racing migrate request message and an exit domain message.
Instead of blocking exit domains for the duration of the migrate, we ignore
failure to deliver that message. This is because an exiting domain should
not have any active locks and thus has no role to play in the migration.

Wrap access to task credentials so that they can be separated more easily from
the task_struct during the introduction of COW creds.
Change most current->(|e|s|fs)[ug]id to current_(|e|s|fs)[ug]id().
Change some task->e?[ug]id to task_e?[ug]id(). In some places it makes more
sense to use RCU directly rather than a convenient wrapper; these will be
addressed by later patches.

Kmem cache passed to constructor is only needed for constructors that are
themselves multiplexeres. Nobody uses this "feature", nor does anybody uses
passed kmem cache in non-trivial way, so pass only pointer to object.

Add a new BDI capability flag: BDI_CAP_NO_ACCT_WB. If this flag is
set, then don't update the per-bdi writeback stats from
test_set_page_writeback() and test_clear_page_writeback().

This patch makes the o2dlm allocate memory for lockres, lockname and lock
structures from slabcaches rather than kmalloc. This allows us to not only
make these allocs more efficient but also allows us to track the memory being
consumed by these structures.

During migration, the recovery master node may be asked to master a lockres
it may not know about. In that case, it would not only have to create a
lockres and add it to the hash, but also remember to to do the _put_
corresponding to the kref_init in dlm_init_lockres(), as soon as the migration
is completed. Yes, we don't wait for the dlm_purge_lockres() to do that
matching put. Note the ref added for it being in the hash protects the lockres
from being freed prematurely.
This patch adds that missing put, as described above, to plug a memleak.

Normally locks for remote nodes are freed when that node sends an UNLOCK
message to the master. The master node tags an DLM_UNLOCK_FREE_LOCK action
to do an extra put on the lock at the end.
However, there are times when the master node has to free the locks for the
remote nodes forcibly.
Two cases when this happens are:
1. When the master has migrated the lockres plus all locks to another node.
2. When the master is clearing all the locks of a dead node.
It was in the above two conditions that the dlm was missing the extra put.

struct dlm_query_join_packet is made up of four one-byte fields. They
are effectively in big-endian order already. However, little-endian
machines swap them before putting the packet on the wire (because
query_join's response is a status, and that status is treated as a u32
on the wire). Thus, a big-endian and little-endian machines will
treat this structure differently.
The solution is to have little-endian machines swap the structure when
converting from the structure to the u32 representation.

__dlm_print_one_lock_resource must be called with spin_lock
the res->spinlock. While in some cases, we use it without this
precondition and lead to the failure of assert_spin_locked.
So call dlm_print_one_lock_resource instead.

This patchset moves le*_add_cpu and be*_add_cpu functions from OCFS2 to core
header (1st), converts ext3 filesystem to this API (2nd) and replaces XFS
different named functions with new ones (3rd).
There are many places where these functions will be useful. Just look at:

Currently, when ocfs2 nodes connect via TCP, they advertise their
compatibility level. If the versions do not match, two nodes cannot speak
to each other and they disconnect. As a result, this provides no forward or
backwards compatibility.
This patch implements a simple protocol negotiation at the dlm level by
introducing a major/minor version number scheme for entities that
communicate. Specifically, o2dlm has a major/minor version for interaction
with o2dlm on other nodes, and ocfs2 itself has a major/minor version for
interacting with the filesystem on other nodes.
This will allow rolling upgrades of ocfs2 clusters when changes to the
locking or network protocols can be done in a backwards compatible manner.
In those cases, only the minor number is changed and the negotatied protocol
minor is returned from dlm join. In the far less likely event that a
required protocol change makes backwards compatibility impossible, we simply
bump the major number.

Currently the process of dlm join contains 2 steps: query join and assert join.
After query join, the joined node will set its joining_node. So if the joining
node happens to panic before the 2nd step, the joined node will fail to clear
its joining_node flag because that node isn't in the domain map. It at least
cause 2 problems.
1. All the new join request will fail. So no new node can mount the volume.
2. The joined node can't umount the volume since during the umount process it
has to wait for the joining_node to be unknown. So the umount will be hanged.
The solution is to clear the joining_node before we check the domain map.

The task_struct->pid member is going to be deprecated, so start
using the helpers (task_pid_nr/task_pid_vnr/task_pid_nr_ns) in
the kernel.
The first thing to start with is the pid, printed to dmesg - in
this case we may safely use task_pid_nr(). Besides, printks produce
more (much more) than a half of all the explicit pid usage.

Slab destructors were no longer supported after Christoph's
c59def9f22 change. They've been
BUGs for both slab and slub, and slob never supported them
either.
This rips out support for the dtor pointer from kmem_cache_create()
completely and fixes up every single callsite in the kernel (there were
about 224, not including the slab allocator definitions themselves,
or the documentation references).

ocfs2 mounts require a heartbeat region. Use the new configfs_depend_item()
facility to actually depend on them so they can't go away from under us.
First, teach cluster/nodemanager.c to depend an item on the o2cb subsystem.
Then teach o2hb_register_callbacks to take a UUID and depend on the
appropriate region. Finally, teach all users of o2hb to pass a UUID or
NULL if they don't require a pin.

I have never seen a use of SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL. It is only supported by
SLAB.
I think its purpose was to have a callback after an object has been freed
to verify that the state is the constructor state again? The callback is
performed before each freeing of an object.
I would think that it is much easier to check the object state manually
before the free. That also places the check near the code object
manipulation of the object.
Also the SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL callback is only performed if the kernel was
compiled with SLAB debugging on. If there would be code in a constructor
handling SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL then it would have to be conditional on
SLAB_DEBUG otherwise it would just be dead code. But there is no such code
in the kernel. I think SLUB_DEBUG_INITIAL is too problematic to make real
use of, difficult to understand and there are easier ways to accomplish the
same effect (i.e. add debug code before kfree).
There is a related flag SLAB_CTOR_VERIFY that is frequently checked to be
clear in fs inode caches. Remove the pointless checks (they would even be
pointless without removeal of SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL) from the fs constructors.
This is the last slab flag that SLUB did not support. Remove the check for
unimplemented flags from SLUB.

In dlm_migrate_all_locks(), we currently call cond_resched_lock() after
processing each lockres in a hash bucket. Move it outside the loop so as to
call it only after the entire hash bucket has been processed.
