Matt Fleming 0f8093a92d efi: Set feature flags inside feature init functions
It makes more sense to set the feature flag in the success path of the
detection function than it does to rely on the caller doing it. Apart
from it being more logical to group the code and data together, it sets
a much better example for new EFI architectures.

Michel Lespinasse cb88759107 firmware: google memconsole driver fixes
The google memconsole driver is currently broken upstream, as it tries
to read memory that is described as reserved in /proc/iomem, by
dereferencing a pointer obtained through phys_to_virt(). This triggers
a kernel fault as such regions are unmapped after early boot.

The proper workaround is to use ioremap_cache() / iounmap() around such
accesses.

As some unrelated changes, I also converted some printks to use pr_info()
and added some missing __init annotations.

Tested: booted dbg build, verified I could read /sys/firmware/log

Michel Lespinasse b12b73f1ca firmware: fix google/gsmi duplicate efivars_sysfs_init()
Starting in commit e14ab23dde,
efivars_sysfs_init() is called both by itself as an init function,
and by drivers/firmware/google/gsmi.c gsmi_init().

This results in runtime warnings such as the following:

Fixing this by removing the redundant efivars_sysfs_init() call in
gsmi_init().

Tested: booted, checked that /firmware/gsmi/vars was still present and
showed the expected contents.

Ard Biesheuvel c2218e26c0 firmware/google: drop 'select EFI' to avoid recursive dependency
The GOOGLE_SMI Kconfig symbol depends on DMI and selects EFI.  This
causes problems on other archs when introducing DMI support that depends
on EFI, as it results in a recursive dependency:

  arch/arm/Kconfig:1845:error: recursive dependency detected!
  arch/arm/Kconfig:1845:	symbol DMI depends on EFI

Fix by changing the 'select EFI' to a 'depends on EFI'.

Ard Biesheuvel cf0744021c firmware/dmi_scan: generalize for use by other archs
This patch makes a couple of changes to the SMBIOS/DMI scanning
code so it can be used on other archs (such as ARM and arm64):
(a) wrap the calls to ioremap()/iounmap(), this allows the use of a
    flavor of ioremap() more suitable for random unaligned access;
(b) allow the non-EFI fallback probe into hardcoded physical address
    0xF0000 to be disabled.

Santosh Shilimkar 4fc0bc58cb drivers/firmware/memmap.c: use memblock apis for early memory allocations
Switch to memblock interfaces for early memory allocator instead of
bootmem allocator.  No functional change in beahvior than what it is in
current code from bootmem users points of view.

Archs already converted to NO_BOOTMEM now directly use memblock
interfaces instead of bootmem wrappers build on top of memblock.  And
the archs which still uses bootmem, these new apis just fallback to
exiting bootmem APIs.

Linus Torvalds d3bad75a6d Driver core / sysfs patches for 3.14-rc1
Here's the big driver core and sysfs patch set for 3.14-rc1.
 
 There's a lot of work here moving sysfs logic out into a "kernfs" to
 allow other subsystems to also have a virtual filesystem with the same
 attributes of sysfs (handle device disconnect, dynamic creation /
 removal  as needed / unneeded, etc.  This is primarily being done for
 the cgroups filesystem, but the goal is to also move debugfs to it when
 it is ready, solving all of the known issues in that filesystem as well.
 The code isn't completed yet, but all should be stable now (there is a
 big section that was reverted due to problems found when testing.)
 
 There's also some other smaller fixes, and a driver core addition that
 allows for a "collection" of objects, that the DRM people will be using
 soon (it's in this tree to make merges after -rc1 easier.)
 
 All of this has been in linux-next with no reported issues.

Dave Young 926172d460 efi: Export EFI runtime memory mapping to sysfs
kexec kernel will need exactly same mapping for EFI runtime memory
ranges. Thus here export the runtime ranges mapping to sysfs,
kexec-tools will assemble them and pass to 2nd kernel via setup_data.

Introducing a new directory /sys/firmware/efi/runtime-map just like
/sys/firmware/memmap. Containing below attribute in each file of that
directory:

attribute  num_pages  phys_addr  type  virt_addr

Dave Young a0998eb15a efi: Export more EFI table variables to sysfs
Export fw_vendor, runtime and config table physical addresses to
/sys/firmware/efi/{fw_vendor,runtime,config_table} because kexec kernels
need them.

From EFI spec these 3 variables will be updated to virtual address after
entering virtual mode. But kernel startup code will need the physical
address.

Jan Beulich fce7d3bfc0 x86/efi: Don't select EFI from certain special ACPI drivers
Commit 7ea6c6c1 ("Move cper.c from drivers/acpi/apei to
drivers/firmware/efi") results in CONFIG_EFI being enabled even
when the user doesn't want this. Since ACPI APEI used to build
fine without UEFI (and as far as I know also has no functional
depency on it), at least in that case using a reverse dependency
is wrong (and a straight one isn't needed).

Whether the same is true for ACPI_EXTLOG I don't know - if there
is a functional dependency, it should depend on EFI rather than
selecting it. It certainly has (currently) no build dependency.

Adjust Kconfig and build logic so that the bad dependency gets
avoided.

Tejun Heo 13ccb93f41 Merge branch 'driver-core-linus' into driver-core-next
a8b1474442 ("sysfs: give different locking key to regular and bin
files") in driver-core-linus modifies sysfs_open_file() so that it
gives out different locking classes to sysfs_open_files depending on
whether the file is bin or not.  Due to the massive kernfs
reorganization in driver-core-next, this naturally causes merge
conflict in fs/sysfs/file.c.

Due to the way things are split between kernfs and sysfs in
driver-core-next, the same fix can't easily be applied to
driver-core-next.  This merge simply ignores the offending commit.  A
following patch will implement a separate fix for the issue.

Bjorn Helgaas d0f80f9aad firmware: dmi-sysfs: Remove "dmi" directory on module exit
With CONFIG_DEBUG_KOBJECT_RELEASE=y, removing and immediately reloading the
dmi-sysfs module causes the following warning:

  sysfs: cannot create duplicate filename '/firmware/dmi'
  kobject_add_internal failed for dmi with -EEXIST, don't try to register things with the same name in the same directory.

The "dmi" directory stays in sysfs until the dmi_kobj is released, and
DEBUG_KOBJECT_RELEASE delays that.

I don't think we can hit this problem in normal usage because dmi_kobj is
static and nothing outside dmi-sysfs can get a reference to it, so the
only way to delay the "dmi" release is with DEBUG_KOBJECT_RELEASE.

Bjorn Helgaas a61aca2854 firmware: dmi-sysfs: Don't remove dmi-sysfs "raw" file explicitly
Removing the dmi-sysfs module causes the following warning:

  # modprobe -r dmi_sysfs

  sysfs: can not remove 'raw', no directory

This is because putting the entry kobject, e.g., for
"/sys/firmware/dmi/entries/19-0", removes the directory and all its
contents.  By the time dmi_sysfs_entry_release() runs, the "raw" file
inside ".../19-0/" has already been removed.

Therefore, we don't need to remove the "raw" bin file at all in
dmi_sysfs_entry_release().

Lv Zheng 9d24622ced ACPI / IBFT: Fix incorrect <acpi/acpi.h> inclusion in iSCSI boot firmware module
To avoid build problems and breaking dependencies between ACPI header
files, <acpi/acpi.h> should not be included directly by code outside
of the ACPI core subsystem, but this is done by the ACPI iSCSI
Boot Firmware code.

The iBFT specification doesn't mention whether or not it can appear
on a non-ACPI platform, but is says that ACPI 3.0b defines the
mechanism.  The current CONFIG_ISCSI_IBFT_FIND code doesn't use the
ACPI tables API to locate the table, so it doesn't rely on CONFIG_ACPI
directly.

However, since iBFT is is an ACPI-based mechanism (please refer to
the documentation link below for more information), it should be
correct to make CONFIG_ISCSI_IBFT_FIND depend on CONFIG_ACPI (even
though the table location can be implemented without using ACPI
tables API).

After that change, include/linux/iscsi_ibft.h can be modified to
include <linux/acpi.h> instead of <acpi/acpi.h> as appropriate.

Seiji Aguchi e0d59733f6 efivars, efi-pstore: Hold off deletion of sysfs entry until the scan is completed
Currently, when mounting pstore file system, a read callback of
efi_pstore driver runs mutiple times as below.

- In the first read callback, scan efivar_sysfs_list from head and pass
  a kmsg buffer of a entry to an upper pstore layer.
- In the second read callback, rescan efivar_sysfs_list from the entry
  and pass another kmsg buffer to it.
- Repeat the scan and pass until the end of efivar_sysfs_list.

In this process, an entry is read across the multiple read function
calls. To avoid race between the read and erasion, the whole process
above is protected by a spinlock, holding in open() and releasing in
close().

At the same time, kmemdup() is called to pass the buffer to pstore
filesystem during it. And then, it causes a following lockdep warning.

To make the dynamic memory allocation runnable without taking spinlock,
holding off a deletion of sysfs entry if it happens while scanning it
via efi_pstore, and deleting it after the scan is completed.

To implement it, this patch introduces two flags, scanning and deleting,
to efivar_entry.

On the code basis, it seems that all the scanning and deleting logic is
not needed because __efivars->lock are not dropped when reading from the
EFI variable store.

But, the scanning and deleting logic is still needed because an
efi-pstore and a pstore filesystem works as follows.

In case an entry(A) is found, the pointer is saved to psi->data.  And
efi_pstore_read() passes the entry(A) to a pstore filesystem by
releasing  __efivars->lock.

And then, the pstore filesystem calls efi_pstore_read() again and the
same entry(A), which is saved to psi->data, is used for resuming to scan
a sysfs-list.

So, to protect the entry(A), the logic is needed.

 "This series cleans up the handling of DMA masks in a lot of drivers,
  fixing some bugs as we go.

  Some of the more serious errors include:
   - drivers which only set their coherent DMA mask if the attempt to
     set the streaming mask fails.
   - drivers which test for a NULL dma mask pointer, and then set the
     dma mask pointer to a location in their module .data section -
     which will cause problems if the module is reloaded.

  To counter these, I have introduced two helper functions:
   - dma_set_mask_and_coherent() takes care of setting both the
     streaming and coherent masks at the same time, with the correct
     error handling as specified by the API.
   - dma_coerce_mask_and_coherent() which resolves the problem of
     drivers forcefully setting DMA masks.  This is more a marker for
     future work to further clean these locations up - the code which
     creates the devices really should be initialising these, but to fix
     that in one go along with this change could potentially be very
     disruptive.

  The last thing this series does is prise away some of Linux's addition
  to "DMA addresses are physical addresses and RAM always starts at
  zero".  We have ARM LPAE systems where all system memory is above 4GB
  physical, hence having DMA masks interpreted by (eg) the block layers
  as describing physical addresses in the range 0..DMAMASK fails on
  these platforms.  Santosh Shilimkar addresses this in this series; the
  patches were copied to the appropriate people multiple times but were
  ignored.

  Fixing this also gets rid of some ARM weirdness in the setup of the
  max*pfn variables, and brings ARM into line with every other Linux
  architecture as far as those go"

Luck, Tony 0841c04d65 dmi: Avoid unaligned memory access in save_mem_devices()
Firmware is not required to maintain alignment of SMBIOS
entries, so we should take care accessing fields within these
structures. Use "get_unaligned()" to avoid problems.

Luck, Tony 7ea6c6c15e Move cper.c from drivers/acpi/apei to drivers/firmware/efi
cper.c contains code to decode and print "Common Platform Error Records".
Originally added under drivers/acpi/apei because the only user was in that
same directory - but now we have another consumer, and we shouldn't have
to force CONFIG_ACPI_APEI get access to this code.

Since CPER is defined in the UEFI specification - the logical home for
this code is under drivers/firmware/efi/

dcdbas was explicitly initializing DMA masks thusly:
	dcdbas_pdev->dev.coherent_dma_mask = DMA_BIT_MASK(32);
	dcdbas_pdev->dev.dma_mask = &dcdbas_pdev->dev.coherent_dma_mask;
which bypasses the architecture check.  Moreover, it is creating the
dcdbas_pdev device itself, and using the platform_device_register_full()
avoids some of this explicit initialization.

Convert the driver to use platform_device_register_full(), and as it
makes use of coherent DMA, also call dma_set_coherent_mask() to ensure
that the architecture gets to check the mask.

Roy Franz c158c3bf59 boot, efi: Remove redundant memset()
Remove a redundant memset() call from efi_relocate_kernel() that
was clearing memory that would be used by BSS in non-compressed
images loaded with this function.  This clear was redundant with
the clearing done in the image itself, and also implemented incorrectly
with a 0 length.

Roy Franz 6a5fe770d3 efi: Fix types in EFI calls to match EFI function definitions.
EFI calls can made directly on ARM, so the function pointers
are directly invoked.  This allows types to be checked at
compile time, so here we ensure that the parameters match
the function signature. The wrappers used by x86 prevent
any type checking.
Correct the type of chunksize to be based on native
width as specified by the EFI_FILE_PROTOCOL read()
function.

Roy Franz 46f4582e7c efi: Generalize handle_ramdisks() and rename to handle_cmdline_files().
The handle_cmdline_files now takes the option to handle as a string,
and returns the loaded data through parameters, rather than taking
an x86 specific setup_header structure.  For ARM, this will be used
to load a device tree blob in addition to initrd images.

Make efi_free() safely callable with size of 0, similar to free() being
callable with NULL pointers, and do nothing in that case.

Move the open-coded conversion to a shared function for
use by all architectures.  Change the allocation to prefer
a high address for ARM, as this is required to avoid conflicts

Rename relocate_kernel() to efi_relocate_kernel(), and take
parameters rather than x86 specific structure.  Add max_addr
argument as for ARM we have some address constraints that we
need to enforce when relocating the kernel.  Add alloc_size
parameter for use by ARM64 which uses an uncompressed kernel,
and needs to allocate space for BSS.

Roy Franz 38dd9c02c3 efi: Enforce minimum alignment of 1 page on allocations.
The efi_high_alloc() and efi_low_alloc() functions
use the EFI_ALLOCATE_ADDRESS option to the EFI
function allocate_pages(), which requires a minimum
of page alignment, and rejects all other requests.
The existing code could fail to allocate depending
on allocation size, as although repeated allocation
attempts were made, none were guaranteed to be page
aligned.

Roy Franz 876dc36ace efi: Add system table pointer argument to shared functions.
Add system table pointer argument to shared EFI stub related functions
so they no longer use a global system table pointer as they did when part
of eboot.c.  For the ARM EFI stub this allows us to avoid global
variables completely and thereby not have to deal with GOT fixups.
Not having the EFI stub fixup its GOT, which is shared with the
decompressor, simplifies the relocating of the zImage to a
bootable address.

Jean Delvare ae79744975 firmware/dmi_scan: drop OOM messages
As reported by Joe Perches: OOM messages generally aren't useful.
dmi_alloc is either a trivial front-end to kzalloc, and kzalloc already
does a dump_stack() when OOM, or for x86, dmi_alloc uses extend_brk
which BUGs when unsuccessful.

So we can remove all 6 such log messages in the dmi_scan driver, to
shrink the binary size (by 528 bytes on x86_64.)

Leif Lindholm 272686bf46 efi: x86: ia64: provide a generic efi_config_init()
Common to (U)EFI support on all platforms is the global "efi" data
structure, and the code that parses the System Table to locate
addresses to populate that structure with.

This patch adds both of these to the global EFI driver code and
removes the local definition of the global "efi" data structure from
the x86 and ia64 code.

Squashed into one big patch to avoid breaking bisection.

Greg KH 4c33dea781 firmware: dcdbas: use binary attribute groups
The dcdbas code was "hand rolling" a binary attribute group, which the
driver core now supports automatically.  So remove the "create the files
by hand" logic, and just set the proper field in the attribute group
structure, saving lots of code and headache.

Jani Nikula 5017b28513 dmi: add support for exact DMI matches in addition to substring matching
dmi_match() considers a substring match to be a successful match.  This is
not always sufficient to distinguish between DMI data for different
systems.  Add support for exact string matching using strcmp() in addition
to the substring matching using strstr().

The specific use case in the i915 driver is to allow us to use an exact
match for D510MO, without also incorrectly matching D510MOV:

Seiji Aguchi d51df2c5d3 efivar: fix oops in efivar_update_sysfs_entries() caused by memory reuse
The loop in efivar_update_sysfs_entries() reuses the same allocation for
entries each time it calls efivar_create_sysfs_entry(entry).  This is
wrong because efivar_create_sysfs_entry() expects to keep the memory it
was passed, so the caller may not free it (and may not pass the same
memory in multiple times).  This leads to the oops below.  Fix by
getting a new allocation each time we go around the loop.

Ben Hutchings 79bae42d51 dmi_scan: refactor dmi_scan_machine(), {smbios,dmi}_present()
Move the calls to memcpy_fromio() up into the loop in
dmi_scan_machine(), and move the signature checks back down into
dmi_decode().  We need to check at 16-byte intervals but keep a 32-byte
buffer for an SMBIOS entry, so shift the buffer after each iteration.

Merge smbios_present() into dmi_present(), so we look for an SMBIOS
signature at the beginning of the given buffer and then for a DMI
signature at an offset of 16 bytes.

Tejun Heo 98e5e1bf72 dump_stack: implement arch-specific hardware description in task dumps
x86 and ia64 can acquire extra hardware identification information
from DMI and print it along with task dumps; however, the usage isn't
consistent.

* x86 show_regs() collects vendor, product and board strings and print
  them out with PID, comm and utsname.  Some of the information is
  printed again later in the same dump.

* warn_slowpath_common() explicitly accesses the DMI board and prints
  it out with "Hardware name:" label.  This applies to both x86 and
  ia64 but is irrelevant on all other archs.

* ia64 doesn't show DMI information on other non-WARN dumps.

This patch introduces arch-specific hardware description used by
dump_stack().  It can be set by calling dump_stack_set_arch_desc()
during boot and, if exists, printed out in a separate line with
"Hardware name:" label.

dmi_set_dump_stack_arch_desc() is added which sets arch-specific
description from DMI data.  It uses dmi_ids_string[] which is set from
dmi_present() used for DMI debug message.  It is superset of the
information x86 show_regs() is using.  The function is called from x86
and ia64 boot code right after dmi_scan_machine().

This makes the explicit DMI handling in warn_slowpath_common()
unnecessary.  Removed.

show_regs() isn't yet converted to use generic debug information
printing and this patch doesn't remove the duplicate DMI handling in
x86 show_regs().  The next patch will unify show_regs() handling and
remove the duplication.

Tejun Heo c90fe6bc03 dmi: morph dmi_dump_ids() into dmi_format_ids() which formats into a buffer
We're goning to use DMI identification for other purposes too.  Morph
dmi_dump_ids() which is used to print DMI identification as a debug
message during boot into dmi_format_ids() which formats the same
information sans the leading "DMI:" tag into a string buffer.

dmi_present() is updated to format the information into dmi_ids_string[]
using the new function and print it with "DMI:" prefix.

dmi_ids_string[] will be used for another purpose by a future patch.

Seiji reported getting empty dmesg-* files, because the data was never
actually read in efi_pstore_read_func(), and so the memcpy() was copying
garbage data.

This patch necessitated adding __efivar_entry_get() which is callable
between efivar_entry_iter_{begin,end}(). We can also delete
__efivar_entry_size() because efi_pstore_read_func() was the only
caller.

Yasuaki Ishimatsu 7a6f93b0a8 firmware, memmap: fix firmware_map_entry leak
When hot removing memory, a firmware_map_entry which has memory range of
the memory is released by release_firmware_map_entry().  If the entry is
allocated by bootmem, release_firmware_map_entry() adds the entry to
map_entires_bootmem list when firmware_map_find_entry() finds the entry
from map_entries list.  But firmware_map_find_entry never find the entry
sicne map_entires list does not have the entry.  So the entry just
leaks.

Here are steps of leaking firmware_map_entry:
firmware_map_remove()
-> firmware_map_find_entry()
   Find released entry from map_entries list
-> firmware_map_remove_entry()
   Delete the entry from map_entries list
-> remove_sysfs_fw_map_entry()
   ...
   -> release_firmware_map_entry()
      -> firmware_map_find_entry()
         Find the entry from map_entries list but the entry has been
         deleted from map_entries list. So the entry is not added
         to map_entries_bootmem. Thus the entry leaks

release_firmware_map_entry() should not call firmware_map_find_entry()
since releaed entry has been deleted from map_entries list.  So the
patch delete firmware_map_find_entry() from releae_firmware_map_entry()

Matt Fleming f464246d85 efivars: only check for duplicates on the registered list
variable_is_present() accesses '__efivars' directly, but when called via
gsmi_init() Michel reports observing the following crash,

The reason for the crash is that '__efivars' hasn't been initialised nor
has it been registered with register_efivars() by the time the google
EFI SMI driver runs.  The gsmi code uses its own struct efivars, and
therefore, a different variable list.  Fix the above crash by passing
the registered struct efivars to variable_is_present(), so that we
traverse the correct list.

Tom Gundersen a9499fa7cd efi: split efisubsystem from efivars
This registers /sys/firmware/efi/{,systab,efivars/} whenever EFI is enabled
and the system is booted with EFI.

This allows
 *) userspace to check for the existence of /sys/firmware/efi as a way
    to determine whether or it is running on an EFI system.
 *) 'mount -t efivarfs none /sys/firmware/efi/efivars' without manually
    loading any modules.

[ Also, move the efivar API into vars.c and unconditionally compile it.
  This allows us to move efivars.c, which now only contains the sysfs
  variable code, into the firmware/efi directory. Note that the efivars.c
  filename is kept to maintain backwards compatability with the old
  efivars.ko module. With this patch it is now possible for efivarfs
  to be built without CONFIG_EFI_VARS - Matt ]

Matt Fleming d68772b7c8 efivarfs: Move to fs/efivarfs
Now that efivarfs uses the efivar API, move it out of efivars.c and
into fs/efivarfs where it belongs. This move will eventually allow us
to enable the efivarfs code without having to also enable
CONFIG_EFI_VARS built, and vice versa.

Furthermore, things like,

    mount -t efivarfs none /sys/firmware/efi/efivars

will now work if efivarfs is built as a module without requiring the
use of MODULE_ALIAS(), which would have been necessary when the
efivarfs code was part of efivars.c.

Matt Fleming 048517722c efivars: Move pstore code into the new EFI directory
efivars.c has grown far too large and needs to be divided up. Create a
new directory and move the persistence storage code to efi-pstore.c now
that it uses the new efivar API. This helps us to greatly reduce the
size of efivars.c and paves the way for moving other code out of
efivars.c.

Note that because CONFIG_EFI_VARS can be built as a module efi-pstore
must also include support for building as a module.

Matt Fleming e14ab23dde efivars: efivar_entry API
There isn't really a formal interface for dealing with EFI variables
or struct efivar_entry. Historically, this has led to various bits of
code directly accessing the generic EFI variable ops, which inherently
ties it to specific EFI variable operations instead of indirectly
using whatever ops were registered with register_efivars(). This lead
to the efivarfs code only working with the generic EFI variable ops
and not CONFIG_GOOGLE_SMI.

Encapsulate everything that needs to access '__efivars' inside an
efivar_entry_* API and use the new API in the pstore, sysfs and
efivarfs code.

Much of the efivars code had to be rewritten to use this new API. For
instance, it is now up to the users of the API to build the initial
list of EFI variables in their efivar_init() callback function. The
variable list needs to be passed to efivar_init() which allows us to
keep work arounds for things like implementation bugs in
GetNextVariable() in a central location.

Allowing users of the API to use a callback function to build the list
greatly benefits the efivarfs code which needs to allocate inodes and
dentries for every variable.  It previously did this in a racy way
because the code ran without holding the variable spinlock. Both the
sysfs and efivarfs code maintain their own lists which means the two
interfaces can be running simultaneously without interference, though
it should be noted that because no synchronisation is performed it is
very easy to create inconsistencies. efibootmgr doesn't currently use
efivarfs and users are likely to also require the old sysfs interface,
so it makes sense to allow both to be built.

Matt Fleming 4423d779af efivars: Keep a private global pointer to efivars
Some machines have an EFI variable interface that does not conform to
the UEFI specification, e.g. CONFIG_GOOGLE_SMI. Add the necessary code
so that it's only possible to use one implementation of EFI variable
operations at runtime. This allows us to keep a single (file-scope)
global pointer 'struct efivars', which simplifies access. This will
hopefully dissuade developers from accessing the generic operations
struct directly in the future, as was done in the efivarfs and pstore
code, thereby allowing future code to work with both the generic efivar
ops and the google SMI ops.

This may seem like a step backwards in terms of modularity, but we don't
need to track more than one 'struct efivars' at one time. There is no
synchronisation done between multiple EFI variable operations, and
according to Mike no one is using both the generic EFI var ops and
CONFIG_GOOGLE_SMI simultaneously, though a single kernel build _does_
need to able to support both. It also helps to clearly highlight which
functions form the core of the efivars interface - those that require
access to __efivars.

There's not much we can do to work around and keep traversing the
variable list once we hit this firmware bug. Our only solution is to
terminate the loop because, as Lingzhu reports, some machines get
stuck when they encounter duplicate names,

since the last iteration. That algorithm isn't going to work if
GetNextVariableName() returns duplicates. Note that we don't disable
EFI variable creation completely on the affected machines, it's just
that any pstore dump-* files won't appear in sysfs until the next
boot.

Matt Fleming ec50bd32f1 efivars: explicitly calculate length of VariableName
It's not wise to assume VariableNameSize represents the length of
VariableName, as not all firmware updates VariableNameSize in the same
way (some don't update it at all if EFI_SUCCESS is returned). There
are even implementations out there that update VariableNameSize with
values that are both larger than the string returned in VariableName
and smaller than the buffer passed to GetNextVariableName(), which
resulted in the following bug report from Michael Schroeder,

The issue here is that because we blindly use VariableNameSize without
verifying its value, we can potentially read garbage values from the
buffer containing VariableName if VariableNameSize is larger than the
length of VariableName.

Since VariableName is a string, we can calculate its size by searching
for the terminating NULL character.
