Linus Torvalds 1a0b6abaea SCSI misc on 20140401
This patch consists of the usual driver updates (megaraid_sas, scsi_debug,
qla2xxx, qla4xxx, lpfc, bnx2fc, be2iscsi, hpsa, ipr) plus an assortment of
minor fixes and the first precursors of SCSI-MQ (the code path
simplifications) and the bug fix for the USB oops on remove (which involves an
infrastructure change, so is sent via the main tree with a delayed backport
after a cycle in which it is shown to introduce no new bugs).

Linus Torvalds c70929147a sound updates for 3.15-rc1
There have been lots of changes in ALSA core, HD-audio and ASoC, also
most of PCI drivers touched by conversions of printks. All these
resulted in a high volume and wide ranged patch sets in this release.
Many changes are fairly trivial, but also lots of nice cleanups and
refactors. There are a few new drivers, most notably, the Intel
 Haswell and Baytrail ASoC driver.

 Core changes:
 - A bit modernization; embed the device struct into snd_card struct,
so that it may be referred from the beginning. A new snd_card_new()
function is introduced for that, and all drivers have been
   converted.

 - Simplification in the device management code in ALSA core;
now managed by a simple priority list instead

 - Converted many kernel messages to use the standard dev_err() & co;
this would be the pretty visible difference, especially for
   HD-audio.

 HD-audio:
 - Conexant codecs use the auto-parser as default now;
the old static code still remains in case of regressions.
Some old quirks have been rewritten with the fixups for auto-parser.

 - C-Media codecs also use the auto-parser as default now, too.

 - A device struct is assigned to each HD-audio codec, and the formerly
hwdep attributes are accessible over the codec sysfs, too.
hwdep attributes still remain for compatibility.

 - Split the PCI-specific stuff for HD-audio controller into a separate
module, ane make a helper module for the generic controller driver.
This is a preliminary change for supporting Tegra HDMI controller in
near future, which slipped from 3.15 merge.

 - Device-specific fixes: mute LED support for Lenovo Ideapad,
mic LED fix for HP laptops, more ASUS subwoofer quirks, yet more
   Dell laptop headset quirks

 - Make the HD-audio codec response a bit more robust

 - A few improvements on Realtek ALC282 / 283 about the pop noises

 - A couple of Intel HDMI fixes

 ASoC:
 - Lots of cleanups for enumerations; refactored lots of error prone
original codes to use more modern APIs

 - Elimination of the ASoC level wrappers for I2C and SPI moving us
closer to converting to regmap completely and avoiding some
   randconfig hassle

 - Provide both manually and transparently locked DAPM APIs rather than
a mix of the two fixing some concurrency issues

 - Start converting CODEC drivers to use separate bus interface drivers
rather than having them all in one file helping avoid dependency
   issues

 - DPCM support for Intel Haswell and Bay Trail platforms, lots of
   fixes

 - Lots of work on improvements for simple-card, DaVinci and the Renesas
   rcar drivers.

 - New drivers for Analog Devices ADAU1977, TI PCM512x and parts of the
CSR SiRF SoC, TLV320AIC31XXX, Armada 370 DB, Cirrus cs42xx8

 - Fixes for the simple-card DAI format DT mess

 - DT support for a couple more devices.

 - Use of the tdm_slot mapping in a few drivers

 Others:
 - Support of reset_resume callback for improved S4 in USB-audio driver;
the device with boot quirks have been little tested, which we need
to watch out in this development cycle

 - Add PM support for ICE1712 driver (finally!);
it's still pretty partial support, only for M-Audio devices

linux-can-fixes-for-3.15-20140401

Marc Kleine-Budde says:

====================
this is a pull request of 16 patches for the 3.15 release cycle.

Bjorn Van Tilt contributes a patch which fixes a memory leak in usb_8dev's
usb_8dev_start_xmit()s error path. A patch by Robert Schwebel fixes a typo in
the can documentation. The remaining patches all target the c_can driver. Two
of them are by me; they add a missing netif_napi_del() and return value
checking. Thomas Gleixner contributes 12 patches, which address several
shortcomings in the driver like hardware initialisation, concurrency, message
ordering and poor performance.

Linus Torvalds c12ac9f98e spi: Updates for v3.15
A busy release for both cleanups and new drivers this time along with
further factoring out of replicated code into the core:

  - Provide support in the core for DMA mapping transfers - essentially
all drivers weren't implementing this properly, now there's no
    excuse.
  - Dual and quad mode support for spidev.
  - Fix handling of cs_change in the generic implementation.
  - Remove the S3C_DMA code from the s3c64xx driver now that all the
platforms using it have been converted to dmaengine.
  - Lots of improvements to the Renesas SPI controllers.
  - Drivers for Allwinner A10 and A31, Qualcomm QUP and Xylinx xtfpga.
  - Removal of the bitrotted ti-ssp driver.

Linus Torvalds 3786075b5e regulator: Updates for v3.15
This release has lots and lots of small cleanups and fixes in the
regulator subsystem, mainly cleaning up some bad patterns that got
duplicated in DT code, but otherwise very little of note outside
of the scope of the relevant drivers:

  - Support for configuration of the initial state for gpio regulators
    with multi-voltage support.
  - Support for calling regulator_set_voltage() on fixed regulators.
  - New drivers for Broadcom BCM590xx, Freescale pfuze200, Samsung S2MPA01 &
S2MPS11/4, some PWM controlled regulators found on some ST boards and
    TI TPS65218.

Linus Torvalds 4dedde7c7a ACPI and power management updates for 3.15-rc1
- Device PM QoS support for latency tolerance constraints on systems with
hardware interfaces allowing such constraints to be specified. That is
necessary to prevent hardware-driven power management from becoming
overly aggressive on some systems and to prevent power management
features leading to excessive latencies from being used in some cases.

  - Consolidation of the handling of ACPI hotplug notifications for device
objects. This causes all device hotplug notifications to go through
the root notify handler (that was executed for all of them anyway
before) that propagates them to individual subsystems, if necessary,
by executing callbacks provided by those subsystems (those callbacks
are associated with struct acpi_device objects during device
enumeration). As a result, the code in question becomes both smaller
in size and more straightforward and all of those changes should not
    affect users.

  - ACPICA update, including fixes related to the handling of _PRT in cases
when it is broken and the addition of "Windows 2013" to the list of
supported "features" for _OSI (which is necessary to support systems
that work incorrectly or don't even boot without it). Changes from

Merge tag 'pm+acpi-3.15-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm

Pull ACPI and power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"The majority of this material spent some time in linux-next, some of
it even several weeks. There are a few relatively fresh commits in
it, but they are mostly fixes and simple cleanups.

ACPI took the lead this time, both in terms of the number of commits
and the number of modified lines of code, cpufreq follows and there
are a few changes in the PM core and in cpuidle too.

A new feature that already got some LWN.net's attention is the device
PM QoS extension allowing latency tolerance requirements to be
propagated from leaf devices to their ancestors with hardware
interfaces for specifying latency tolerance. That should help systems
with hardware-driven power management to avoid going too far with it
in cases when there are latency tolerance constraints.

There also are some significant changes in the ACPI core related to
the way in which hotplug notifications are handled. They affect PCI
hotplug (ACPIPHP) and the ACPI dock station code too. The bottom line
is that all those notification now go through the root notify handler
and are propagated to the interested subsystems by means of callbacks
instead of having to install a notify handler for each device object
that we can potentially get hotplug notifications for.

In addition to that ACPICA will now advertise "Windows 2013"
compatibility for _OSI, because some systems out there don't work
correctly if that is not done (some of them don't even boot).

On the system suspend side of things, all of the device suspend and
resume callbacks, except for ->prepare() and ->complete(), are now
going to be executed asynchronously as that turns out to speed up
system suspend and resume on some platforms quite significantly and we
have a few more optimizations in that area.

Apart from that, there are some new device IDs and fixes and cleanups
all over. In particular, the system suspend and resume handling by
cpufreq should be improved and the cpuidle menu governor should be a
  bit more robust now.

  Specifics:

   - Device PM QoS support for latency tolerance constraints on systems
with hardware interfaces allowing such constraints to be specified.
That is necessary to prevent hardware-driven power management from
becoming overly aggressive on some systems and to prevent power
management features leading to excessive latencies from being used
     in some cases.

   - Consolidation of the handling of ACPI hotplug notifications for
device objects. This causes all device hotplug notifications to go
through the root notify handler (that was executed for all of them
anyway before) that propagates them to individual subsystems, if
necessary, by executing callbacks provided by those subsystems
(those callbacks are associated with struct acpi_device objects
during device enumeration). As a result, the code in question
becomes both smaller in size and more straightforward and all of
those changes should not affect users.

list of supported "features" for _OSI (which is necessary to

Linus Torvalds 683b6c6f82 Merge branch 'irq-core-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull irq code updates from Thomas Gleixner:
 "The irq department proudly presents:

   - Another tree wide sweep of irq infrastructure abuse. Clear winner
of the trainwreck engineering contest was:
         #include "../../../kernel/irq/settings.h"

   - Tree wide update of irq_set_affinity() callbacks which miss a cpu
online check when picking a single cpu out of the affinity mask.

   - Tree wide consolidation of interrupt statistics.

   - Updates to the threaded interrupt infrastructure to allow explicit
wakeup of the interrupt thread and a variant of synchronize_irq()
which synchronizes only the hard interrupt handler. Both are
needed to replace the homebrewn thread handling in the mmc/sdhci
     code.

   - New irq chip callbacks to allow proper support for GPIO based irqs.
The GPIO based interrupts need to request/release GPIO resources
     from request/free_irq.

   - A few new ARM interrupt chips. No revolutionary new hardware, just
differently wreckaged variations of the scheme.

   - Small improvments, cleanups and updates all over the place"

Petri Gynther 4522643aa9 HID: uhid: Add UHID_CREATE2 + UHID_INPUT2
UHID_CREATE2:
HID report descriptor data (rd_data) is an array in struct uhid_create2_req,
instead of a pointer. Enables use from languages that don't support pointers,
e.g. Python.

UHID_INPUT2:
Data array is the last field of struct uhid_input2_req. Enables userspace to
write only the required bytes to kernel (ev.type + ev.u.input2.size + the part
of the data array that matters), instead of the entire struct uhid_input2_req.

Note:
UHID_CREATE2 increases the total size of struct uhid_event slightly, thus
increasing the size of messages that are queued for userspace. However, this
won't affect the userspace processing of these events.

others were doing their own things. Hans made some structural
changes to libahci and librarized ahci_platform so that ahci
platform drivers can share more common code. A couple platform
drivers are added on top of that and several are added to replace
older drivers which were doing their own things (older ones are
     scheduled to be removed).

   - Dan finishes the patchset to make libata PM operations

     this should speed resume measurably.

Marc van der Wal 0bcd0b6a47 watchdog: it87_wdt: Work around non-working CIR interrupts
On some hardware platforms, the it87_wdt watchdog resets the machine
despite the watchdog daemon running and writing to /dev/watchdog.

This is due to Consumer IR buffer underrun interrupts being used as
triggers to reset the timer. On some buggy hardware implementations
such as the iEi AFL-12A-N270 single-board computer, this method does
not work.

However, resetting the timer by writing its original timeout value in
its configuration register over and over again suppresses the unwanted
reboots.

Add a module option (nocir), 0 by default in order not to break existing
setups. Setting it to 1 enables the workaround.

Fixes bug #42801 <https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42801>.
Tested primarily on Linux 3.5.7, applies cleanly on Linux 3.13.5.

Marcin Wojtas 5491ce3f79 mmc: sdhci-pxav3: add support for the Armada 38x SDHCI controller
The SDHCI unit used on the Armada 380 and 385 Marvell SoC is similar
to the PXAv3 unit. The only difference is that on Armada 38x, the
PXAv3 unit accesses memory through MBus windows which must be
configured prior to using the device. Without this, DMA would not
work.

In order to achieve this, the sdhci-pxav3 driver is extended with an
additional compatible string "marvell,armada-380-sdhci". When this
compatible string is used, the MBus windows are initialized in a way
that is identical to what all other DMA-capable drivers for Marvell
EBU platforms do.

Joe Thornber eec40579d8 dm: add era target
dm-era is a target that behaves similar to the linear target. In
addition it keeps track of which blocks were written within a user
defined period of time called an 'era'. Each era target instance
maintains the current era as a monotonically increasing 32-bit
counter.

Use cases include tracking changed blocks for backup software, and
partially invalidating the contents of a cache to restore cache
coherency after rolling back a vendor snapshot.

dm-era is primarily expected to be paired with the dm-cache target.

Christoffer Dall 6acdb1603a KVM: Specify byte order for KVM_EXIT_MMIO
The KVM API documentation is not clear about the semantics of the data
field on the mmio struct on the kvm_run struct.

This has become problematic when supporting ARM guests on big-endian
host systems with guests of both endianness types, because it is unclear
how the data should be exported to user space.

This should not break with existing implementations as all supported
existing implementations of known user space applications (QEMU and
kvmtools for virtio) only support default endianness of the
architectures on the host side.

Geert Uytterhoeven 39c29f3dfc PM / Runtime: Correct documented return values for generic PM callbacks
As of commit 05aa55dddb ("PM / Runtime:
Lenient generic runtime pm callbacks"), the generic power management
callbacks pm_generic_runtime_suspend() and pm_generic_runtime_resume()
return 0, not -EINVAL, if the device doesn't provide its own callbacks.

Lv Zheng 08e1d7c029 ACPICA: Enable auto-serialization as a default kernel behavior.
The previous commit "ACPICA: Add auto-serialization support for ill-behaved
control methods" introduced the auto-serialization facility as a workaround
that can be enabled by "acpi_auto_serialize":

This feature marks control methods that create named objects as "serialized"
to avoid unwanted AE_ALREADY_EXISTS control method evaluation failures.

Enable method auto-serialization as the default kernel behavior. The new kernel
parameter is also changed from "acpi_auto_serialize" to "acpi_no_auto_serialize"
to reflect the default behavior.

Bob Moore 22b5afce6a ACPICA: Add auto-serialization support for ill-behaved control methods.
This change adds support to automatically mark a control method as
"serialized" if the method creates any named objects. This will
positively prevent the method from being entered by more than one
thread and thus preventing a possible abort when an attempt is
made to create an object twice.

Implemented by parsing all non-serialize control methods at table
load time.

This feature is disabled by default and this patch also adds a new
Linux kernel parameter "acpi_auto_serialize" to allow this feature
to be turned on for a specific boot.

Lv Zheng e2b8ddcc6b ACPICA: Remove global option to serialize all control methods.
According to the reports, the "acpi_serialize" mechanism is broken as:

 A. The parallel method calls can still happen when the interpreter lock is
    released under the following conditions:
    1. External callbacks are invoked, for example, by the region handlers,
       the exception handlers, etc.;
    2. Module level execution is performed when Load/LoadTable opcodes are
       executed, and
    3. The _REG control methods are invoked to complete the region
       registrations.
 B. For the following situations, the interpreter lock need to be released
even for a serialized method while currently, the lock-releasing
operation is marked as a no-op by
    acpi_ex_relinquish/reacquire_interpreter() when this mechanism is
    enabled:
    1. Wait opcode is executed,
    2. Acquire opcode is executed, and
    3. Sleep opcode is executed.

This patch removes this mechanism and the internal
acpi_ex_relinquish/reacquire_interpreter() APIs.  Lv Zheng.

David S. Miller 0fc3196603 Merge branch 'for-davem' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linville/wireless-next
John W. Linville says:

====================
Please pull this batch of wireless updates intended for 3.15!

For the mac80211 bits, Johannes says:

"This has a whole bunch of bugfixes for things that went into -next
previously as well as some other bugfixes I didn't want to rush into
3.14 at this point. The rest of it is some cleanups and a few small
features, the biggest of which is probably Janusz's regulatory DFS CAC
time code."

For the Bluetooth bits, Gustavo says:

"One more pull request to 3.15. This is mostly and bug fix pull request, it
contains several fixes and clean up all over the tree, plus some small new
features."

For the NFC bits, Samuel says:

"This is the NFC pull request for 3.15. With this one we have:

- Support for ISO 15693 a.k.a. NFC vicinity a.k.a. Type 5 tags. ISO
  15693 are long range (1 - 2 meters) vicinity tags/cards. The kernel
now supports those through the NFC netlink and digital APIs.

- Support for TI's trf7970a chipset. This chipset relies on the NFC
digital layer and the driver currently supports type 2, 4A and 5 tags.

- Support for NXP's pn544 secure firmare download. The pn544 C3 chipsets
relies on a different firmware download protocal than the C2 one. We
now support both and use the right one depending on the version we
  detect at runtime.

- Support for 4A tags from the NFC digital layer.

- A bunch of cleanups and minor fixes from Axel Lin and Thierry Escande."

For the iwlwifi bits, Emmanuel says:

"We were sending a host command while the mutex wasn't held. This
led to hard-to-catch races."

And...

"I have a fix for a "merge damage" which is not really a merge
damage: it enables scheduled scan which has been disabled in
wireless.git. Since you merged wireless.git into wireless-next.git,
this can now be fixed in wireless-next.git.

Besides this, Alex made a workaround for a hardware bug. This fix
allows us to consume less power in S3. Arik and Eliad continue to
work on D0i3 which is a run-time power saving feature. Eliad also
contributes a few bits to the rate scaling logic to which Eyal adds his
own contribution. Avri dives deep in the power code - newer firmware
will allow to enable power save in newer scenarios. Johannes made a few
clean-ups. I have the regular amount of BT Coex boring stuff. I disable
uAPSD since we identified firmware bugs that cause packet loss. One
thing that do stand out is the udev event that we now send when the
FW asserts. I hope it will allow us to debug the FW more easily."

Also included is one last iwlwifi pull for a build breakage fix...

For the Atheros bits, Kalle says:

"Michal now did some optimisations and was able to improve throughput by
100 Mbps on our MIPS based AP135 platform. Chun-Yeow added some
workarounds to be able to better use ad-hoc mode. Ben improved log
messages and added support for MSDU chaining. And, as usual, also some
smaller fixes."

Beyond that...

Andrea Merello continues his rtl8180 refactoring, in preparation for
a long-awaited rtl8187 driver. We get a new driver (rsi) for the
RS9113 chip, from Fariya Fatima. And, of course, we get the usual
round of updates for ath9k, brcmfmac, mwifiex, wil6210, etc. as well.

Linus Lüssing 1d8ab8d3c1 batman-adv: Modified forwarding behaviour for multicast packets
With this patch a multicast packet is not always simply flooded anymore,
the behaviour for the following cases is changed to reduce
unnecessary overhead:

If all nodes within the horizon of a certain node have signalized
multicast listener announcement capability then an IPv6 multicast packet
with a destination of IPv6 link-local scope (excluding ff02::1) coming
from the upstream of this node...

* ...is dropped if there is no according multicast listener in the
  translation table,
* ...is forwarded via unicast if there is a single node with interested
  multicast listeners
* ...and otherwise still gets flooded.

It be better just keeping a "ti,keystone" top-level compatible and

So use common "ti,keystone" compatible in keystone.c for all boards.

Jaegeuk Kim cdfc41c134 f2fs: throttle the memory footprint with a sysfs entry
This patch introduces ram_thresh, a sysfs entry, which controls the memory
footprint used by the free nid list and the nat cache.

Previously, the free nid list was controlled by MAX_FREE_NIDS, while the nat
cache was managed by NM_WOUT_THRESHOLD.
However, this approach cannot be applied dynamically according to the system.

So, this patch adds ram_thresh that users can specify the threshold, which is
in order of 1 / 1024.
For example, if the total ram size is 4GB and the value is set to 10 by default,
f2fs tries to control the number of free nids and nat caches not to consume over
10 * (4GB / 1024) = 10MB.

Recommend the usage of the new CPU hotplug callback registration APIs

Dirk Brandewie 367dc4aa93 cpufreq: Add stop CPU callback to cpufreq_driver interface
This callback allows the driver to do clean up before the CPU is
completely down and its state cannot be modified. This is used
by the intel_pstate driver to reduce the requested P state prior to
the core going away. This is required because the requested P state
of the offline core is used to select the package P state. This
effectively sets the floor package P state to the requested P state on
the offline core.

This patch series adds basic uprobes support to ARM. It is based on
patches developed earlier by Rabin Vincent. That approach of adding
hooks into the kprobes instruction parsing code was not well received.
This approach separates the ARM instruction parsing code in kprobes out
into a separate set of functions which can be used by both kprobes and
uprobes. Both kprobes and uprobes then provide their own semantic action
tables to process the results of the parsing.

Nicolin Chen 46c39cae29 ASoC: simple-card: overwrite cpu_dai->fmt with codec_dai->fmt
The current simple-card driver separates the daimft for cpu_dai and codec_dai.
So we might get different values for them (0x4003 and 0x1003 for example):

asoc-simple-card sound-cs42888.12: cpu : 2024000.esai / 4003 / 132000000
asoc-simple-card sound-cs42888.12: codec : cs42888 / 1003 / 24576000
asoc-simple-card sound-cs42888.12: cs42888 <-> 2024000.esai mapping ok

This is not allowed at all as we need to keep the DAIFMT settings identical
for both the ends of the link.

Thus this patch fixes it by overwriting the cpu_dai->fmt with codec_dai->fmt
since we defined the DAIFMT_MASTER basing on CODEC at the first place while
the other bits are same.

Merge "STi DT changes part 1 v2" from Srinivas Kandagatla:

Patches : 01-02 are DT patches, adding interrupt support to pin
controller driver, Driver changes are already going via Linus W's
pinctrl tree.

Patches: 03 - 06 are DT patches for reset/softreset controller. Reset
controller driver is Acked by Philipp Zabel.

Patches: 07, 08 are DT patches, adding Ethernet controller support
patches, actual driver changes are already in v3.14-rc4 via Dave Millers
net tree.

Patches: 09, 10 are DT patches for IR driver support, actual IR driver
is already available since v3.12. Reason for the delay is due to
dependency on reset controller driver/headers.

Alexander Shiyan 6a8a0c1d87 gpio: Driver for SYSCON-based GPIOs
SYSCON driver was designed for using memory areas (registers)
that are used in several subsystems. There are systems (CPUs)
which use bits in one register for various purposes and thus
should be handled by various kernel subsystems. This driver
allows you to use the individual SYSCON bits as GPIOs.
ARM CLPS711X SYSFLG1 input lines has been added as first user
of this driver.

John W. Linville 20d83f2464 NFC: 3.15: First pull request
This is the NFC pull request for 3.15.

 - A bunch of cleanups and minor fixes from Axel Lin and Thierry Escande.
