Further refactor chromeos_laptop, adding a probe function.
Init will call dmi_check_system, but will only use the match to select
a chromeos_laptop structure of the current board.
Probe will add the devices, and on errors return -EPROBE_DEFER.
If i2c adapters are loaded after chromeos_laptop inits, the deferred
probe will instantiate the peripherals when the bus appears.

The previous code had a single DMI matching entry
for each device on a board. Instead provide a single
DMI entry for each board which references a structure
about each board that lists the associated peripherals.
This allows for a lower number of DMI matching sequences
as well making it easier to add new boards.

This patch adds support for ipc command interrupt mode.
Also added platform data option to select 'irq_mode'
irq_mode = 1: configure the driver to receive IOC interrupt
for each successful ipc_command.
irq_mode = 0: makes driver use polling method to
track the command completion status.

It makes sense to split out the Chromebook/Chromebox hardware platform
drivers to a separate subdirectory, since some of it will be shared

This moves over the existing chromeos_laptop driver without making
any other changes, and adds appropriate Kconfig entries for the new

Some BIOS versions/Vaio models apparently ship with two nearly identical
functions to handle backlight related controls.
The only difference seems to be:
If (LEqual (BUF1, 0x40))
{
Store (0x40, P80H)
Store (BUF2, Local0)
- And (Local0, One, Local0)
+ And (Local0, 0x03, Local0)

Avoid erroring out on initialization and messing things up on cleanup
for now since we never call into these methods with anything different

This is necessary for 3 reasons:
1) To apply sw_state changes made while hw-blocked
2) To set all the blocked bits for hw-switch controlled radios to 1 when the
switch gets changed to off, this is necessary on some models to actually
turn the radio status LEDs off.
3) On some models non hw-switch controlled radios will have their block bit
cleared (potentially undoing a soft-block) on hw-switch toggle, this
restores the sw-block in this case.

On machines with a hardware switch, the blocking settings can not be changed
through a Fn + wireless-key combo, so there is no reason to read back the
blocking state from the BIOS.
Reading back is not only not necessary it is actually harmful, since on some
machines the blocking state will be cleared to all 0 after a wireless switch
toggle, even for radios not controlled by the hw-switch (yeah firmware bugs).
This causes "magic" changes to the sw_state. This is inconsistent with other
rfkill drivers which preserve the sw_state over a hw kill on / off.

The query callback should only update the hw_state, see the comment in
net/rfkill/core.c in rfkill_set_block, which is its only caller.
rfkill_set_block will modify the sw_state directly after calling query so
calling set_sw_state is an expensive NOP.

The rfkill functionality was removed from the dell-laptop driver because it
was causing problems on various non Latitude models, and the blacklist kept
growing and growing. In the thread discussing this Dell mentioned that they
only QA the rfkill acpi interface on Latitudes and indeed there have been
no blacklist entries for Latitudes.
Note that the blacklist contained no Vostros either, and most Vostros have
a hardware switch too, so we could consider supporting Vostros with a

Without rfkill functionality in dell-laptop I have the following problems:
-If the hardware radio switch is set to disable the radio, then userspace
will still think it can use wireless and bluetooth.
-The wwan / 3g modem cannot be soft blocked without the dell-laptop rfkill
functionality
I know the rfkill functionality was removed from the dell-laptop driver because
it caused more problems then it fixed, and the blacklist for it was growing out
of control.
But in the thread discussing this Dell mentioned that they only QA the rfkill
acpi interface on Latitudes and indeed there have been no blacklist entries
for Latitudes. Therefor I would like to bring the rfkill functionality back
only for Latitudes. This patch is a straight-forward revert. The next patch
in this set will drop the blacklist and replace it with a Latitude check.
This reverts commit a6c2390cd6.

- HD-audio:
* Improved AMD HDMI supports
* Intel HDMI detection improvements
* thinkpad_acpi mute-key integration

* Clean up endpoint handling codes
- ASoC:
* Further work on the dmaengine helpers, including support for
configuring the parameters for DMA by reading the capabilities of
the DMA controller which removes some guesswork and magic numbers
from drivers.
* A refresh of the documentation.
* Conversions of many drivers to direct regmap API usage in order to
allow the ASoC level register I/O code to be removed, this will
hopefully be completed by v3.14.
* Support for using async register I/O in DAPM, reducing the time
taken to implement power transitions on systems that support it.
- Fireiwre: DICE driver
- Lots of small fixes for bugs reported by Coverity

"There are no too intrusive changes in this update batch. The biggest
LOC is found in the new DICE driver, and other small changes are
scattered over the whole sound subtree (which is a common pattern).
Below are highlights:
- ALSA core:
* Memory allocation support with genpool
* Fix blocking in drain ioctl of compress_offload
- HD-audio:
* Improved AMD HDMI supports
* Intel HDMI detection improvements
* thinkpad_acpi mute-key integration
* New PCI ID, New ALC255,285,293 codecs, CX20952
- USB-audio:
* New buffer size management
* Clean up endpoint handling codes
- ASoC:
* Further work on the dmaengine helpers, including support for
configuring the parameters for DMA by reading the capabilities of
the DMA controller which removes some guesswork and magic numbers
from drivers.
* A refresh of the documentation.
* Conversions of many drivers to direct regmap API usage in order
to allow the ASoC level register I/O code to be removed, this
will hopefully be completed by v3.14.
* Support for using async register I/O in DAPM, reducing the time
taken to implement power transitions on systems that support it.
- Firewire: DICE driver
- Lots of small fixes for bugs reported by Coverity"

mrst is used as common name to represent all intel_mid type
soc's. But moorsetwon is just one of the intel_mid soc. So
renamed them to use intel_mid.
This patch mainly renames the variables and related
functions that uses *mrst* prefix with *intel_mid*.
To ensure that there are no functional changes, I have compared
the objdump of related files before and after rename and found
the only difference is symbol and name changes.

mrst/early_printk_mrst.c -> intel-mid/intel_mid_vrtc.c

The tpacpi_acpi_handle_locate function makes use of acpi_get_devices to
locate handle for ACPI video by HID, the problem is, ACPI video node
doesn't really have HID defined(i.e. no _HID control method is defined
for video device), so.. that function would fail. This can be solved by
enhancing the callback function for acpi_get_devices, where we can use
acpi_device_hid function to check if the ACPI node corresponds to a
video controller.
In addition to that, the _BCL control method only exists under a video
output device node, not a video controller device node. So to evaluate
_BCL, we need the handle of a video output device node, which is child
of the located video controller node from tpacpi_acpi_handle_locate.
The two fix are necessary for some Thinkpad models to emit notification
on backlight hotkey press as a result of evaluation of _BCL.

This patch does two things,
1. enumerate the ideapad device node to platform bus.
2. convert the current driver from ACPI bus to platform bus.
Note, with this patch, the platform device node created by ACPI,
with the name VPC2004:00, is used as the parent device of
the input, backlight, rfkill sysfs class device.
Plus the ideapad_platform private sysfs attributes,
i.e. camera_power and fan_mode, are also moved to the new
platform device node.
The previous platform device node "ideapad" is removed.

The current code use ideapad_handle and ideapad_priv to store
some information for the ideapad device.
But as they are global/static variables, the driver will be broken
if there are more than one ideapad ACPI device node on a platform.
Although this does not happen for now and may not happen in the future,
but still, this is a software bug.

drivers/platform/olpc/olpc-ec.c: initialise earlier
Being a low-level component, various drivers (e.g. olpc-battery) assume
that it is ok to communicate with the OLPC Embedded Controller during
probe. Therefore the OLPC EC driver must be initialised before other
drivers try to use it. This was the case until it was recently moved
out of arch/x86 and restructured around commits ac2504151f ("Platform:
OLPC: turn EC driver into a platform_driver") and 85f90cf6ca ("x86:
OLPC: switch over to using new EC driver on x86").
Use arch_initcall so that olpc-ec is readied earlier, matching the
previous behaviour.
Fixes a regression introduced in Linux-3.6 where various drivers such as
olpc-battery and olpc-xo1-sci failed to load due to an inability to
communicate with the EC. The user-visible effect was a lack of battery
monitoring, missing ebook/lid switch input devices, etc.

Intel Smart Connect is an Intel-specific ACPI interface for configuring
devices to wake up at regular intervals so they can pull down mail or other
internet updates, and then go to sleep again. If a user enables this in
Windows and then reboots into Linux, the device may wake up if it's put to
sleep. Since there's no Linux userland support for any of this, the machine
will then remain awake until something else puts it back to sleep.
I haven't figured out all that much about how this works (there's a bunch
of different ACPI calls available on the device), but this seems to be
enough to turn it off. We can add more features to this driver if anyone
ever cares about figuring out what the rest of the calls do or writing some
Linux userspace to implement the rest of it.

Intel Rapid Start Technology is a firmware-based suspend-to-disk
implementation. Once placed in S3, the device will wake once either a
timeout elapses or the battery reaches a critical level. It will then resume
to the firmware and copy the contents of RAM to a specialised partition, and
then power off the machine. If the user turns the machine back on the
firmware will copy the contents of the partition back to RAM and then resume
from S3 as normal.
This driver provides an interface for configuring the wakeup events and
timeout. It still requires firmware support and an appropriate suspend
partition.

There is a new DELL WMI spec. with new WMI event format.
I'm working on the AIO machines, but I think the new format will apply to
all the Dell's machines, not only for AIO, which will be released later
this year.
The new format of the WMI buffer is shown as below
word 0 - the number of words following in the WMI buffer(not including
this word.
word 1 - the event type
0x0000 - A hot key is pressed or an event occurred
0x000F - A sequence of hot keys are pressed
word 2 and on - the event data

built into the kernel as hp_wmi_bios_remove is marked as __exit and will

To fix it let's use platform_driver_probe() instead of

For machines with AMD graphic chips, it will send out WMI event and ACPI
interrupt at the same time while hitting the hotkey. BIOS will notify the
system the next display output mode throught WMI event code, so that
windows' application can show an OSD to tell the user which mode will be
taken effect. User can hit the display toggle key many times within 2
seconds to choose the mode they want. After 2 seconds, WMI dirver should
send a WMIMethod(SDSP) command to tell the BIOS which mode the user chose.
And then BIOS will raise another ACPI interrupt to tell the system to
really switch the display mode.
In Linux desktop, we don't have this kind of OSD to let users to choose
the mode they want, so we don't need to call WMIMethod(SDSP) to have
another ACPI interrupt. To simplify the problem, we just have to ignore
the WMI event, and let the first ACPI interrupt to send out the key event.
For the need, here comes another quirk to add machines with this kind of
behavior. When the WMI driver receives the display toggle WMI event, and
found the machin is in the list, it will do nothing and let ACPI video
driver to report the key event.

For those machines with wapf=4, BIOS won't update the wireless LED,
since wapf=4 means user application will take in chage of the wifi and bt.
So, we have to update wlan LED status explicitly.
But I found there is another wireless LED bug in launchpad and which is
not in the wapf=4 quirk.
So, it might be better to set wireless LED status explicitly for all
machines.

Here is the big driver core merge for 3.9-rc1
There are two major series here, both of which touch lots of drivers all
over the kernel, and will cause you some merge conflicts:
- add a new function called devm_ioremap_resource() to properly be
able to check return values.
- remove CONFIG_EXPERIMENTAL
If you need me to provide a merged tree to handle these resolutions,
please let me know.
Other than those patches, there's not much here, some minor fixes and

"This is part of on-going cleanups to remove / minimize usages of
workqueue interfaces which are deprecated and/or misleading.
This round drops a number of usages of [delayed_]work_pending(), which
are dangerous as they lack any form of synchronization and thus often
lead to buggy / unnecessary code. There are a couple legitimate use
cases in kernel. Hopefully, they can be converted and
[delayed_]work_pending() can be removed completely. Even if not,

It has been reported that running this driver on some Samsung laptops
with EFI can cause those machines to become bricked as detailed in the
following report,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1040557
There have also been reports of this driver causing Machine Check
Exceptions on recent EFI-enabled Samsung laptops,
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47121
So disable it if booting from EFI since this driver relies on
grovelling around in the BIOS memory map which isn't going to work.

Originally 'efi_enabled' indicated whether a kernel was booted from
EFI firmware. Over time its semantics have changed, and it now
indicates whether or not we are booted on an EFI machine with
bit-native firmware, e.g. 64-bit kernel with 64-bit firmware.
The immediate motivation for this patch is the bug report at,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1040557
which details how running a platform driver on an EFI machine that is
designed to run under BIOS can cause the machine to become
bricked. Also, the following report,
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47121
details how running said driver can also cause Machine Check
Exceptions. Drivers need a new means of detecting whether they're
running on an EFI machine, as sadly the expression,
if (!efi_enabled)
hasn't been a sufficient condition for quite some time.
Users actually want to query 'efi_enabled' for different reasons -
what they really want access to is the list of available EFI
facilities.
For instance, the x86 reboot code needs to know whether it can invoke
the ResetSystem() function provided by the EFI runtime services, while
the ACPI OSL code wants to know whether the EFI config tables were
mapped successfully. There are also checks in some of the platform
driver code to simply see if they're running on an EFI machine (which
would make it a bad idea to do BIOS-y things).
This patch is a prereq for the samsung-laptop fix patch.

The second argument of ACPI driver .remove() operation is only used
by the ACPI processor driver and the value passed to that driver
through it is always available from the given struct acpi_device
object's removal_type field. For this reason, the second ACPI driver
.remove() argument is in fact useless, so drop it.

This imports the current Google code and cleans it up slightly to use pr_ and
to properly request its resources.
Goldfish is an emulator used for Android development. It has a virtual bus where
the emulator passes platform device information to the guest which then creates
the appropriate devices.
This part of the emulation is not architecture specific so should not be hiding
in architecture trees as it does in the Google Android tree. The constants it
uses do depend on the platform and the platform creates the bus device which then
talks to the emulator to ascertain the actual devices present.

about 12 seconds to run, and subsequent initialisation also seems to
be delayed. Since we don't really need the result, don't bother
calling it on init. Those who are curious can still get the result

SN06 in some cases returns an Integer instead of a buffer. While the
code handling the return value was trying to cope with the difference,
the memcpy call was not making any difference between the two types of
acpi_object union. This regression was introduced in 3.5.
While there also rework the return value logic to improve readability.

KEY_TOUCHPAD_TOOGLE key is for notice userland change touchpad state
via xf86-input-synaptics on the machine that don't toggle touchpad in
hardware. But, acer laptop actually toggle touchpad in hardware.

It causes by the code in patch 987dfbaa65 doesn't check

CONFIG_HOTPLUG is going away as an option. As a result, the __dev*
markings need to be removed.
This change removes the use of __devinit, __devexit_p, __devinitdata,
__devinitconst, and __devexit from these drivers.
Based on patches originally written by Bill Pemberton, but redone by me
in order to handle some of the coding style issues better, by hand.
