It is therefore better to let the compiler handle the insertion of the
correct function name.

The gateway selection class variable is shared between different algorithm
versions. But the interpretation of the content is algorithm specific. The
initialization is therefore also algorithm specific.
But this was implemented incorrectly and the initialization for BATMAN_V
always overwrote the value previously written for BATMAN_IV. This could
only be avoided when BATMAN_V was disabled during compile time.
Using a special batadv_algo hook for this initialization avoids this
problem.

The batman-adv fragmentation packets have the design problem that they
cannot be refragmented and cannot handle padding by the underlying link.
The latter often leads to problems when networks are incorrectly configured
and don't use a common MTU.
The sender could for example fragment a 1271 byte frame (plus external
ethernet header (14) and batadv unicast header (10)) to fit in a 1280 bytes
large MTU of the underlying link (max. 1294 byte frames). This would create
a 1294 bytes large frame (fragment 2) and a 55 bytes large frame
(fragment 1). The extra 54 bytes are the fragment header (20) added to each
fragment and the external ethernet header (14) for the second fragment.
Let us assume that the next hop is then not able to transport 1294 bytes to
its next hop. The 1294 byte large frame will be dropped but the 55 bytes
large fragment will still be forwarded to its destination.
Or let us assume that the underlying hardware requires that each frame has
a minimum size (e.g. 60 bytes). Then it will pad the 55 bytes frame to 60
bytes. The receiver of the 60 bytes frame will no longer be able to
correctly assemble the two frames together because it is not aware that 5
bytes of the 60 bytes frame are padding and don't belong to the reassembled
frame.
This can partly be avoided by splitting frames more equally. In this
example, the 675 and 674 bytes large fragment frames could both potentially
reach its destination without being too large or too small.

transmission and allowed.

The function batadv_frag_skb_buffer was supposed not to consume the skbuff
on errors. This was followed in the helper function
batadv_frag_insert_packet when the skb would potentially be inserted in the
fragment queue. But it could happen that the next helper function
batadv_frag_merge_packets would try to merge the fragments and fail. This
results in a kfree_skb of all the enqueued fragments (including the just
inserted one). batadv_recv_frag_packet would detect the error in
batadv_frag_skb_buffer and try to free the skb again.
The behavior of batadv_frag_skb_buffer (and its helper
batadv_frag_insert_packet) must therefore be changed to always consume the
skbuff to have a common behavior and avoid the double kfree_skb.

The network stack no longer uses the last_rx member of struct net_device
since the bonding driver switched to use its own private last_rx in
commit 9f24273837 ("bonding: use last_arp_rx in slave_last_rx()").
However, some drivers still (ab)use the field for their own purposes and
some driver just update it without actually using it.
Previously, there was an accompanying comment for the last_rx member
added in commit 4dc89133f4 ("net: add a comment on netdev->last_rx")
which asked drivers not to update is, unless really needed. However,
this commend was removed in commit f8ff080dac ("bonding: remove
useless updating of slave->dev->last_rx"), so some drivers added later
on still did update last_rx.
Remove all usage of last_rx and switch three drivers (sky2, atp and
smc91c92_cs) which actually read and write it to use their own private
copy in netdev_priv.
Compile-tested with allyesconfig and allmodconfig on x86 and arm.

All conflicts were simple overlapping changes except perhaps
for the Thunder driver.
That driver has a change_mtu method explicitly for sending
a message to the hardware. If that fails it returns an
error.
Normally a driver doesn't need an ndo_change_mtu method becuase those
are usually just range changes, which are now handled generically.
But since this extra operation is needed in the Thunder driver, it has
to stay.
However, if the message send fails we have to restore the original
MTU before the change because the entire call chain expects that if
an error is thrown by ndo_change_mtu then the MTU did not change.
Therefore code is added to nicvf_change_mtu to remember the original
MTU, and to restore it upon nicvf_update_hw_max_frs() failue.

Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt
Kernel Offset: disabled
---[ end Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt
It does not happen often, but may potentially happen when frequently
shutting down and reinitializing an interface. With some carefully
placed msleep()s/mdelay()s it can be reproduced easily.
The issue is, that on interface removal, any still running worker thread
of a forwarding packet will race with the interface purging routine to
free a forwarding packet. Temporarily giving up a spin-lock to be able
to sleep in the purging routine is not safe.
Furthermore, there is a potential general protection fault not just for
the purging side shown above, but also on the worker side: Temporarily
removing a forw_packet from the according forw_{bcast,bat}_list will make
it impossible for the purging routine to catch and cancel it.
# How this patch tries to fix it:
With this patch we split the queue purging into three steps: Step 1),
removing forward packets from the queue of an interface and by that
claim it as our responsibility to free.
Step 2), we are either lucky to cancel a pending worker before it starts
to run. Or if it is already running, we wait and let it do its thing,
except two things:
Through the claiming in step 1) we prevent workers from a) re-arming
themselves. And b) prevent workers from freeing packets which we still
hold in the interface purging routine.
Finally, step 3, we are sure that no forwarding packets are pending or
even running anymore on the interface to remove. We can then safely free
the claimed forwarding packets.

In a few situations batman-adv tries to determine whether a given interface
is a WiFi interface to enable specific WiFi optimizations. If the interface
batman-adv has been configured with is a virtual interface (e.g. VLAN) it
would not be properly detected as WiFi interface and thus not benefit from
the special WiFi treatment.
This patch changes that by peeking under the hood whenever a virtual
interface is in play.

batman-adv is requiring the type of wifi device in different contexts. Some
of them can take the rtnl semaphore and some of them already have the
semaphore taken. But even others don't allow that the semaphore will be
taken.
The data has to be retrieved when the hardif is added to batman-adv because
some of the wifi information for an hardif will only be available with rtnl
lock. It can then be cached in the batadv_hard_iface and the functions
is_wifi_netdev and is_cfg80211_netdev can just compare the correct bits
without imposing extra locking requirements.

With this patch, (re)broadcasting on a specific interfaces is avoided:
* No neighbor: There is no need to broadcast on an interface if there
is no node behind it.
* Single neighbor is source: If there is just one neighbor on an
interface and if this neighbor is the one we actually got this
broadcast packet from, then we do not need to echo it back.
* Single neighbor is originator: If there is just one neighbor on
an interface and if this neighbor is the originator of this
broadcast packet, then we do not need to echo it back.
Goodies for BATMAN V:
("Upgrade your BATMAN IV network to V now to get these for free!")
Thanks to the split of OGMv1 into two packet types, OGMv2 and ELP
that is, we can now apply the same optimizations stated above to OGMv2
packets, too.
Furthermore, with BATMAN V, rebroadcasts can be reduced in certain
multi interface cases, too, where BATMAN IV cannot. This is thanks to
the removal of the "secondary interface originator" concept in BATMAN V.

Instead of latching onto the OGM period, this patch introduces a worker
dedicated to multicast TT and TVLV updates.
The reasoning is, that upon roaming especially the translation table
should be updated timely to minimize connectivity issues.
With BATMAN V, the idea is to greatly increase the OGM interval to
reduce overhead. Unfortunately, right now this could lead to
a bad user experience if multicast traffic is involved.
Therefore this patch introduces a fixed 500ms update interval for
multicast TT entries and the multicast TVLV.

During broadcast queueing, the skb_reset_mac_header() sets the skb
to a place invalid for a MAC header, pointing right into the
batman-adv broadcast packet. Luckily, no one seems to actually use
eth_hdr(skb) afterwards until batadv_send_skb_packet() resets the
header to a valid position again.

Now genl_register_family() is the only thing (other than the
users themselves, perhaps, but I didn't find any doing that)
writing to the family struct.
In all families that I found, genl_register_family() is only
called from __init functions (some indirectly, in which case
I've add __init annotations to clarifly things), so all can
actually be marked __ro_after_init.
This protects the data structure from accidental corruption.

Static family IDs have never really been used, the only
use case was the workaround I introduced for those users
that assumed their family ID was also their multicast
group ID.
Additionally, because static family IDs would never be
reserved by the generic netlink code, using a relatively
low ID would only work for built-in families that can be
registered immediately after generic netlink is started,
which is basically only the control family (apart from
the workaround code, which I also had to add code for so
it would reserve those IDs)
Thus, anything other than GENL_ID_GENERATE is flawed and
luckily not used except in the cases I mentioned. Move
those workarounds into a few lines of code, and then get
rid of GENL_ID_GENERATE entirely, making it more robust.

The maximum MTU is defined via the slave devices of an batman-adv
interface. Thus it is not possible to calculate the max_mtu during the
creation of the batman-adv device when no slave devices are attached. Doing
so would for example break non-fragmentation setups which then
(incorrectly) allow an MTU of 1500 even when underlying device cannot
transport 1500 bytes + batman-adv headers.
Checking the dynamically calculated max_mtu via the minimum of the slave
devices MTU during .ndo_change_mtu is also used by the bridge interface.

forw_packet->if_outgoing set to eth3.
When eth3 is to be deactivated and removed, then this thread waits for the

get past the core net MTU range checks so fjes_change_mtu can validate a
new MTU against what it supports (see fjes_support_mtu in fjes_hw.c)

because the top Makefile forces to include it with:

This commit removes explicit includes except the following:
* arch/s390/include/asm/facilities_src.h
* tools/testing/radix-tree/linux/kernel.h
These two are used for host programs.

The files provided by batman-adv via debugfs are currently converted to
netlink. Tools which are not yet converted to use the netlink interface may
still rely on the old debugfs files. But systems which already upgraded
their tools can save some space by disabling this feature. The default
configuration of batman-adv on amd64 can reduce the size of the module by
around 11% when this feature is disabled.

Switch-like virtual interfaces like bridge or openvswitch don't destroy
itself when all their attached netdevices dissappear. Instead they only
remove the link to the unregistered device and keep working until they get
removed manually.
This has the benefit that all configurations for this interfaces are kept
and daemons reacting to rtnl events can just add new slave interfaces
without going through the complete configuration of the switch-like
netdevice.
Handling unregister events of client devices similar in batman-adv allows
users to drop their current workaround of dummy netdevices attached to
batman-adv soft-interfaces.

Debugfs is not netns aware. It thus has problems when the same
interface name exists in multiple network name spaces.
Work around this by not creating entries for interfaces in name spaces
other than the default name space. This means meshes in network

netlink interface which is netns aware.

by walking up the devices list of parents and ensures they are all

The translation table (global, local) is usually the part of batman-adv
which has the most dynamical allocated objects. Most of them
(tt_local_entry, tt_global_entry, tt_orig_list_entry, tt_change_node,
tt_req_node, tt_roam_node) are equally sized. So it makes sense to have
them allocated from a kmem_cache for each type.
This approach allowed a small wireless router (TP-Link TL-841NDv8; SLUB
allocator) to store 34% more translation table entries compared to the
current implementation.

This patch abstracts the forward packet creation into the new function
batadv_forw_packet_alloc().
The queue counting and interface reference counters are now handled
internally within batadv_forw_packet_alloc() and its
batadv_forw_packet_free() counterpart. This should reduce the risk of
having reference/queue counting bugs again and should increase
code readibility.

Now that the GW-mode code is algorithm specific, batman-adv expects the

However, such APIs are not mandatory, therefore we might have algorithms

The B.A.T.M.A.N. V algorithm uses a different metric compared to its
predecessor and for this reason the logic used to compute the best
Gateway is also changed. This means that the GW selection class
fed to this logic has a semantics that depends on the algorithm being
used.
Make the parsing and printing routine of the GW selection class
routing algorithm specific. Each algorithm can now parse (and print)
this value independently.

The kobject_put is only removing the sysfs entry and corresponding entries
when its reference counter becomes zero. This tends to lead to collisions
when a device is moved between two different network namespaces because
some of the sysfs files have to be removed first and then added again to

The legacy sysfs interface to modify interfaces belonging to batman-adv
is run inside a region holding s_lock. And to add a net_device, it has
to also get the rtnl_lock. This is exactly the other way around than in
other virtual net_devices and conflicts with netdevice notifier which
executes inside rtnl_lock.
The inverted lock situation is currently solved by executing the removal
of netdevices via workqueue. The workqueue isn't executed inside
rtnl_lock and thus can independently get the s_lock and the rtnl_lock.
But this workaround fails when the netdevice notifier creates events in
quick succession and the earlier triggered removal of a net_device isn't
processed in the workqueue before the adding of the new netdevice (with
same name) event is issued.
Instead the legacy sysfs interface store events have to be enqueued in
a workqueue to loose the s_lock. The worker is then free to get the
required locks and the deadlock is avoided.

Speedy join only works when the received packet is either broadcast or an
4addr unicast packet. Thus packets converted from broadcast to unicast via
the gateway handling code have to be converted to 4addr packets to allow
the receiving gateway server to add the sender address as temporary entry
to the translation table.
Not doing it will make the batman-adv gateway server drop the DHCP response
in many situations because it doesn't yet have the TT entry for the

The throughput meter module is a simple, kernel-space replacement for
throughtput measurements tool like iperf and netperf. It is intended to
approximate TCP behaviour.
It is invoked through batctl: the protocol is connection oriented, with
cumulative acknowledgment and a dynamic-size sliding window.
The test *can* be interrupted by batctl. A receiver side timeout avoids
unlimited waitings for sender packets: after one second of inactivity, the
receiver abort the ongoing test.

With this patch we are finally able to support multicast optimizations
in bridged setups, too. So far, if a bridge was added on top of a
soft-interface (e.g. bat0) the batman-adv multicast optimizations
needed to be disabled to avoid packetloss.
Current Linux bridge implementations and API can now provide us
with the so far missing information about interested but "remote"
multicast receivers behind bridge ports.
The Linux bridge performs the detection of remote participants
interested in multicast packets with its own and mature so
called IGMP and MLD snooping code and stores that in its
database. With the new API provided by the bridge batman-adv can
now simply hook into this database.
We then reliably announce the gathered multicast listeners to
other nodes through the batman-adv translation table.
Additionally, the Linux bridge provides us with the information about
whether an IGMP/MLD querier exists. If there is none then we need to
disable multicast optimizations as we cannot learn about multicast
listeners on external, bridged-in host then.

With this patch IGMP or MLD reports are always flooded. This is
necessary for the upcoming bridge integration to function without
multicast packet loss.
With the report handling so far bridges might miss interested multicast
listeners, leading to wrongly excluding ports from multicast packet
forwarding.
Currently we are treating IGMP/MLD reports, the messages bridges use to
learn about interested multicast listeners, just as any other multicast
packet: We try to send them to nodes matching its multicast destination.
Unfortunately, the destination address of reports of the older
IGMPv2/MLDv1 protocol families do not strictly adhere to their own
protocol: More precisely, the interested receiver, an IGMPv2 or MLDv1
querier, itself usually does not listen to the multicast destination
address of any reports.
Therefore with this patch we are simply excluding IGMP/MLD reports from
the multicast forwarding code path and keep flooding them. By that
any bridge receives them and can properly learn about listeners.
To avoid compatibility issues with older nodes not yet implementing this
report handling, we need to force them to flood reports: We do this by
bumping the multicast TVLV version to 2, effectively disabling their
multicast optimization.

Unfragmented frames which traverse a node have their skb->priority set
by looking at the IP ToS byte, or the 802.1p header. However for
fragments this is not possible, only one of the fragments will contain
the headers. Instead, place the priority into the fragment header and
on receiving a fragment, use this information to set the skb->priority
for when the fragment is forwarded.

If a VLAN tagged frame is received and the corresponding VLAN is not
configured on the soft interface, it will splat a WARN on every packet
received. This is a quite annoying behaviour for some scenarios, e.g. if
bat0 is bridged with eth0, and there are arbitrary VLAN tagged frames
from Ethernet coming in without having any VLAN configuration on bat0.
The code should probably create vlan objects on the fly and
transparently transport these VLAN-tagged Ethernet frames, but until
this is done, at least the WARN splat should be replaced by a rate
limited output.

and bcast_own_sum. It is expected that these buffers are unchanged in case
either bcast_own or bcast_own_sum couldn't be resized.
But the error handling of this function frees the already resized buffer
for bcast_own when the allocation of the new bcast_own_sum buffer failed.
This will lead to an invalid memory access when some code will try to
access bcast_own.
Instead the resized new bcast_own buffer has to be kept. This will not lead
to problems because the size of the buffer was only increased and therefore
no user of the buffer will try to access bytes outside of the new buffer.

The batadv_hardif_list list is checked in many situations and the items
in this list are given to specialized functions to modify the routing
behavior. At the moment each of these called functions has to check
itself whether the received batadv_hard_iface has a refcount > 0 before
it can increase the reference counter and use it in other objects.
This can easily lead to problems because it is not easily visible where
all callers of a function got the batadv_hard_iface object from and

There are network setups where the current bridge loop avoidance can't
detect bridge loops. The minimal setup affected would consist of two
LANs and two separate meshes, connected in a ring like that:
A...(mesh1)...B
| |
(LAN1) (LAN2)
| |
C...(mesh2)...D
Since both the meshes and backbones are separate, the bridge loop
avoidance has not enough information to detect and avoid the loop
in this case. Even if these scenarios can't be fixed easily,
these kind of loops can be detected.
This patch implements a periodic check (running every 60 seconds for
now) which sends a broadcast frame with a random MAC address on
each backbone VLAN. If a broadcast frame with the same MAC address
is received shortly after on the mesh, we know that there must be a
loop and report that incident as well as throw an uevent to let others
handle that problem.

batadv_iv_ogm_orig_del_if handles two different buffers bcast_own and
bcast_own_sum which should be resized. The error handling two for
allocating these buffers causes the complexity of this function. This can
be avoided completely when the function is split into a main function
handling the locking, freeing and call of the subfunctions.
The subfunction can then independently handle the resize of the buffers.
This also allows to easily reuse the old buffer (which always is larger) in
case a smaller buffer could not be allocated without increasing the code
complexity.

batadv_neigh_node_release depends on a consistent state of

At the moment there is no explicit reactivation of an hard-interface
upon NETDEV_UP event. In case of B.A.T.M.A.N. IV the interface is
reactivated as soon as the next OGM is scheduled for sending, but this
mechanism does not work with B.A.T.M.A.N. V. The latter does not rely
on the same scheduling mechanism as its predecessor and for this reason
the hard-interface remains deactivated forever after being brought down
once.
This patch fixes the reactivation mechanism by adding a new routing API
which explicitly allows each algorithm to perform any needed operation
upon interface re-activation.
Such API is optional and is implemented by B.A.T.M.A.N. V only and it
just takes care of setting the iface status to ACTIVE

In case of an unused wireless link, the mac80211 throughput estimation
won't get updated further. Consequently, the reported throughput metric
will become obsolete.
With this patch unicast sampling is introduced by periodically sending
unicast ELP packets to each neighbor on idle WiFi links. These sampling
packets will fill an entire frame, so that the measurement is as
reliable as possible

In case of wireless interface retrieve the throughput by
querying cfg80211. To perform this call a separate work
must be scheduled because the function may sleep and this
is not allowed within an RCU protected context (RCU in this
case is used to iterate over all the neighbours).
Use ethtool to retrieve information about an Ethernet link
like HALF/FULL_DUPLEX and advertised bandwidth (e.g.
100/10Mbps).
The metric is updated each time a new ELP packet is sent,
this way it is possible to timely react to a metric
variation which can imply (for example) a neighbour

To enable ELP to send probing packets over wireless links
only if needed, batman-adv must keep track of the last time
it sent a unicast packet towards every neighbour.
For this purpose a 2 main changes are introduced:
1) a new member of the elp_neigh_node structure stores the
last time a unicast packet was sent towards this neighbour;
2) a wrapper function for sending unicast packets is
implemented. This function will simply update the member
describe din point 1) and then forward the packet to the
real sending routine.
Point 2) implies that any code-path leading to a unicast
sending now has to use the new wrapper.

This is the initial implementation of the new OGM protocol
(version 2). It has been designed to work on top of the
newly added ELP.
In the previous version the OGM protocol was used to both
measure link qualities and flood the network with the metric
information. In this version the protocol is in charge of
the latter task only, leaving the former to ELP.
This means being able to decouple the interval used by the
neighbor discovery from the OGM broadcasting, which revealed
to be costly in dense networks and needed to be relaxed so
leading to a less responsive routing protocol.

This parameter can be set individually on each interface and
allows the configuration of the elp interval for the link
quality measurements during runtime. Usually it is desirable
to set it to a higher (= slower) value on interfaces which
have a more static characteristic (e.g. wired interfaces)
or very dense neighbourhoods to reduce overhead.

The B.A.T.M.A.N. protocol originally only used a single
message type (called OGM) to determine the link qualities to
the direct neighbors and spreading these link quality
information through the whole mesh. This procedure is
summarized on the BATMAN concept page and explained in
details in the RFC draft published in 2008.
This approach was chosen for its simplicity during the
protocol design phase and the implementation. However, it
also bears some drawbacks:
* Wireless interfaces usually come with some packet loss,
therefore a higher broadcast rate is desirable to allow
a fast reaction on flaky connections.
Other interfaces of the same host might be connected to
Ethernet LANs / VPNs / etc which rarely exhibit packet
loss would benefit from a lower broadcast rate to reduce
overhead.
* It generally is more desirable to detect local link
quality changes at a faster rate than propagating all
these changes through the entire mesh (the far end of
the mesh does not need to care about local link quality
changes that much). Other optimizations strategies, like
reducing overhead, might be possible if OGMs weren't
used for all tasks in the mesh at the same time.
As a result detecting local link qualities shall be handled
by an independent message type, ELP, whereas the OGM message
type remains responsible for flooding the mesh with these
link quality information and determining the overall path
transmit qualities.

The batadv_orig_node_vlan reference counter in batadv_tt_global_size_mod
can only be reduced when the list entry was actually removed. Otherwise the
reference counter may reach zero when batadv_tt_global_size_mod is called
from two different contexts for the same orig_node_vlan but only one
context is actually removing the entry from the list.
The release function for this orig_node_vlan is not called inside the
vlan_list_lock spinlock protected region because the function
batadv_tt_global_size_mod still holds a orig_node_vlan reference for the
object pointer on the stack. Thus the actual release function (when
required) will be called only at the end of the function.

It is not allowed to free the memory of an object which is part of a list
which is protected by rcu-read-side-critical sections without making sure
that no other context is accessing the object anymore. This usually happens
by removing the references to this object and then waiting until the rcu
grace period is over and no one (allowedly) accesses it anymore.
But the _now functions ignore this completely. They free the object
directly even when a different context still tries to access it. This has
to be avoided and thus these functions must be removed and all functions

The batadv_nc_node_free_ref function uses call_rcu to delay the free of the
batadv_nc_node object until no (already started) rcu_read_lock is enabled
anymore. This makes sure that no context is still trying to access the
object which should be removed. But batadv_nc_node also contains a
reference to orig_node which must be removed.
The reference drop of orig_node was done in the call_rcu function
batadv_nc_node_free_rcu but should actually be done in the
batadv_nc_node_release function to avoid nested call_rcus. This is
important because rcu_barrier (e.g. batadv_softif_free or batadv_exit) will
not detect the inner call_rcu as relevant for its execution. Otherwise this
barrier will most likely be inserted in the queue before the callback of
the first call_rcu was executed. The caller of rcu_barrier will therefore
continue to run before the inner call_rcu callback finished.

The neigh_list with batadv_hardif_neigh_node objects is accessed with only
rcu_read_lock in batadv_hardif_neigh_get and batadv_iv_neigh_print. Thus it
is not allowed to kfree the object before the rcu grace period ends (which
may still protects context accessing this object). Therefore the object has
first to be removed from the neigh_list and then it has either wait with
synchronize_rcu or call_rcu till the grace period ends before it can be
freed.

which comes after the removed interface.
The address calculation for the position of the data which comes after the
removed interface assumed that the bat_iv.bcast_own is a pointer to a
single byte datatype. But it is a pointer to unsigned long and thus the
calculated position was wrong off factor sizeof(unsigned long).

Here we had an overlapping change, where in 'net' the extraneous stats
bump was being removed whilst in 'net-next' the final argument to
udp_tunnel6_xmit_skb() was being changed.

We have found some networks in which nodes were constantly requesting
other nodes BLA claim tables to synchronize, just to ask for that again
once completed. The reason was that the crc checksum of the asked nodes
were out of sync due to missing locking and multiple writes to the same
crc checksum when adding/removing entries. Therefore the asked nodes
constantly reported the wrong crc, which caused repeating requests.
To avoid multiple functions changing a backbone gateways crc entry at
the same time, lock it using a spinlock.

The chain pointer was already created in batadv_frag_purge_orig to make the
checks more readable. Just use the chain pointer everywhere instead of
having the same dereference + array access in the most lines of this
function.

If the local representation of the global TT table of one originator has
more VLAN entries than the respective TT update, there is some
inconsistency present. By detecting and reporting this inconsistency,
the global table gets updated and the excess VLAN will get removed in
the process.

Since the function applies a threshold and also slightly worse
values are accepted, ''equal or better'' does not represent the
intention of the function. ''Similar or better'' represents that better.

needs a batadv_dat_entry with at least ip and vid filled in.

The translation table implementation, namely batadv_compare_tt(),
is used to compare two client entries and deciding if they are the
holding the same information. Each client entry is identified by
its mac address and its VLAN id (VID).
Consequently, batadv_compare_tt() has to not only compare the mac
addresses but also the VIDs.
Without this fix adding a new client entry that possesses the same
mac address as another client but operates on a different VID will
fail because both client entries will considered identical.

In the case when a temporary entry is added first and a proper tt entry
is added after that, the temporary tt entry is kept in the orig list.
However the temporary flag is removed at this point, and therefore the
purge function can not find this temporary entry anymore.
Therefore, remove the previous temp entry before adding the new proper
one.
This case can happen if a client behind a given originator moves before
the TT announcement is sent out. Other than that, this case can also be
created by bogus or malicious payload frames for VLANs which are not
existent on the sending originator.
