- Fix the time_for_children symlink in /proc/$PID/ so it properly reflects that it part of the 'time' namespace - Add the missing userns limit for the allowed number of time namespaces, which was half defined but the actual array member was not added. orangefs: a fix and two cleanups and a merge conflict
Fix: Christoph Hellwig noticed that some logic I added to orangefs_file_read_iter introduced a race condition, so he sent a reversion patch. I had to modify his patch since reverting at this point broke Orangefs. Cleanup 1: Christoph Hellwig noticed that we were doing some unnecessary work in orangefs_flush, so he sent in a patch that removed the un-needed code. Cleanup 2: Al Viro told me he had trouble building Orangefs. Orangefs should be easy to build, even for Al :-). I looked back at the test server build notes in orangefs.txt, just in case that's where the trouble really is, and found a couple of typos and made a couple of clarifications. Merge Conflict: Stephen Rothwell reported that my modifications to orangefs.txt caused a merge conflict with orangefs.rst in Linux Next. Bug fixes for main IPMI driver, kcs updates

kbuild: support LLVM=1 to switch the default tools to Clang/LLVM
As Documentation/kbuild/llvm.rst implies, building the kernel with a full set of LLVM tools gets very verbose and unwieldy. Provide a single switch LLVM=1 to use Clang and LLVM tools instead of GCC and Binutils. You can pass it from the command line or as an environment variable. Please note LLVM=1 does not turn on the integrated assembler. You need to pass LLVM_IAS=1 to use it. When the upstream kernel is ready for the integrated assembler, I think we can make it default. So, we decided to not do this. - LLVM_SUFFIX Some distributions (e.g. Debian) package specific versions of LLVM with naming conventions that use the version as a suffix. CC = clang$(LLVM_SUFFIX) LD = ld.lld(LLVM_SUFFIX) ... will allow a user to pass LLVM_SUFFIX=-11 to use clang-11 etc., but the suffixed versions in /usr/bin/ are symlinks to binaries in /usr/lib/llvm-#/bin/, so this can also be handled by PATH. kbuild: replace AS=clang with LLVM_IAS=1
The 'AS' variable is unused for building the kernel. Only the remaining usage is to turn on the integrated assembler. A boolean flag is a better fit for this purpose. AS=clang was added for experts. So, I replaced it with LLVM_IAS=1, breaking the backward compatibility. Documentation/changes: Raise minimum supported binutils version to 2.23
The currently minimum-supported binutils version 2.21 has the problem of promoting symbols which are defined outside of a section into absolute. According to Arvind: binutils-2.21 and -2.22. An x86-64 defconfig will fail with Invalid absolute R_X86_64_32S relocation: _etext and after fixing that one, with Invalid absolute R_X86_64_32S relocation: __end_of_kernel_reserve Those two versions of binutils have a bug when it comes to handling symbols defined outside of a section and binutils 2.23 has the proper fix, see: https://sourceware.org/legacy-ml/binutils/2012-06/msg00155.html Therefore, up to the fixed version directly, skipping the broken ones. Currently shipping distros already have the fixed binutils version so there should be no breakage resulting from this. For more details about the whole thing, see the thread in Link. mm/zswap: allow setting default status, compressor and allocator in Kconfig
The compressed cache for swap pages (zswap) currently needs from 1 to 3 extra kernel command line parameters in order to make it work: it has to be enabled by adding a "zswap.enabled=1" command line parameter and if one wants a different compressor or pool allocator than the default lzo / zbud combination then these choices also need to be specified on the kernel command line in additional parameters. Using a different compressor and allocator for zswap is actually pretty common as guides often recommend using the lz4 / z3fold pair instead of the default one. In such case it is also necessary to remember to enable the appropriate compression algorithm and pool allocator in the kernel config manually. Let's avoid the need for adding these kernel command line parameters and automatically pull in the dependencies for the selected compressor algorithm and pool allocator by adding an appropriate default switches to Kconfig. mm, thp: track fallbacks due to failed memcg charges separately
The thp_fault_fallback and thp_file_fallback vmstats are incremented if either the hugepage allocation fails through the page allocator or the hugepage charge fails through mem cgroup. This patch leaves this field untouched but adds two new fields, thp_{fault,file}_fallback_charge, which is incremented only when the mem cgroup charge fails. This distinguishes between attempted hugepage allocations that fail due to fragmentation (or low memory conditions) and those that fail due to mem cgroup limits. That can be used to determine the impact of fragmentation on the system by excluding faults that failed due to memcg usage.
