[media] include/media: split I2C headers from V4L2 core
Currently, include/media is messy, as it contains both the V4L2 core headers and some driver-specific headers on the same place. That makes harder to identify what core headers should be documented and what headers belong to I2C drivers that are included only by bridge/main drivers that would require the functions provided by them. Let's move those i2c specific files to its own subdirectory. The files to move were produced via the following script: mkdir include/media/i2c (cd include/media; for i in *.h; do n=`echo $i|sed s/.h$/.c/`; if [ -e ../../drivers/media/i2c/$n ]; then echo $i; git mv $i i2c/; fi; done) (cd include/media; for i in *.h; do n=`echo $i|sed s/.h$/.c/`; if [ -e ../../drivers/media/*/i2c/$n ]; then echo $i; git mv $i i2c/; fi; done) for i in include/media/*.h; do n=`basename $i`; (for j in $(git grep -l $n); do dirname $j; done)|sort|uniq|grep -ve '^.$' > list; num=$(wc -l list|cut -d' ' -f1); if [ $num == 1 ]; then if [ "`grep i2c list`" != "" ]; then git mv $i include/media/i2c; fi; fi; done And the references corrected via this script: MAIN_DIR="media/" PREV_DIR="media/" DIRS="i2c/" echo "Checking affected files" >&2 for i in $DIRS; do for j in $(find include/$MAIN_DIR/$i -type f -name '*.h'); do n=`basename $j` git grep -l $n done done|sort|uniq >files && ( echo "Handling files..." >&2; echo "for i in \$(cat files|grep -v Documentation); do cat \$i | \\"; ( cd include/$MAIN_DIR; for j in $DIRS; do for i in $(ls $j); do echo "perl -ne 's,(include [\\\"\\<])$PREV_DIR($i)([\\\"\\>]),\1$MAIN_DIR$j\2\3,; print \$_' |\\"; done; done; echo "cat > a && mv a \$i; done"; ); echo "Handling documentation..." >&2; echo "for i in MAINTAINERS \$(cat files); do cat \$i | \\"; ( cd include/$MAIN_DIR; for j in $DIRS; do for i in $(ls $j); do echo " perl -ne 's,include/$PREV_DIR($i)\b,include/$MAIN_DIR$j\1,; print \$_' |\\"; done; done; echo "cat > a && mv a \$i; done" ); ) >script && . ./script Merged Sakari Ailus patch that moves smiapp.h to include/media/i2c. MTD updates for 4.4-rc1:
Core * WARN (in some cases) when a struct mtd_info is registered multiple times; in the past this was "supported", but it's still error prone for future development. There's only one ugly case of this left in the tree (that we're aware of) and the owners are aware of the problems there. * fix potential deadlock in the blkdev removal path NOTE: the (potential) deadlock was introduced in a for-stable patch. This one is also marked for -stable. * ioctl(BLKPG) compat_ioctl support; resolves issues with 32-bit user space vs. 64-bit kernel space * Set MTD parent device correctly throughout the tree, so the tree structure appears correctly in sysfs; many drivers were missing this (soft) requirement * Move device tree partitions (ofpart) into a dedicated 'partitions' subnode; this helps to disambiguate whether a node is a partition or some other auxiliary data * Improve error handling for partitioning failures NAND * General: Increase timeout period, for corner-case systems with less-than-accurate jiffies * Fix OF-based autoloading of several NAND drivers when built as modules * pxa3xx_nand: - Rework timing configuration to be more dynamic - Refactor PM support * brcmnand: prepare for NorthStar 2 support (ARM64, 16-bit NAND chips) * sunxi_nand: refactoring and a few bug fixes * vf610: new NAND driver * FSMC: add SW BCH support; support common NAND DT bindings * lpc32xx_slc: refactor and improve timing calculations logic * denali: support for rev 5.1 SPI NOR * Layering improvements * Added Winbond lock/unlock support * Added mtd_is_locked() (i.e., ioctl(MEMISLOCKED)) support * Increase full-chip-erase timeout linearly with flash size * fsl-quadspi: fix compile for non-ARM architectures * New flash support -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 iQIcBAABAgAGBQJWPPj0AAoJEFySrpd9RFgtJEgP/RnfXRHBX51cUl4r8XrxiGtz zlH5zFOCYWEOtlGjoD25wp+A5RRjWi62At6KmLJZncf0clJ65fyKHjt/JEg6YuI6 DUTMepTwyC2Wh7Ux1ZEH3KOnl64xh5p+Wf7Tl4yUr0DCd26VEwE9o7tPRlahv9nx OhGCWS+uSsxW0Q2wDLCypFzXsnDBeoGxDO7VCIzle4d3aJ4PCcQIXINlr6ZYpocT VTTadPCMsmYq6AgV5W3KYGYLj62ITiN2YxdJRacg+QkKLfl21u2wVy9Ahk/oj5TG bV0DHiz6ky1F2K/bvJibcRFABiYup9UXIo1IzwLloSxEJ/GfennMC29xn9K/0gid e2kO/Ajh/bihgJXzoAoZD/40YJK40X5VW9rQZgo482sMBGLmJOzZiOHOIEXaVohs djQ7sbCwPmLwqp7C+6WTn8frp6ntIe9iXdmjDuR/WlPP0Sh5rI3cUeBQrJXEYxwc aYt1Zxkst6gEMPQJ/S2TiKwWm0BxVWEUEjKmt9FPWOaQnwmoeju0Y/6jIvs1TQKM vO8cmS17QyPUWT2kGIDmZ51KayY26uDC8/NA2t1HDYCiFbpDp61kgu2wyoBUTg7q YIAvjtnwOaG9qk0SLfZu4FEgNi4a/bC1bxGxChsi+S2krpNQAeMlPY394cf6OdsE j+CV/Ko0DguO26bO0MWr =UzSW -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'for-linus-20151106' of git://git.infradead.org/linux-mtd Pull MTD updates from Brian Norris: "Core: - WARN (in some cases) when a struct mtd_info is registered multiple times; in the past this was "supported", but it's still error prone for future development. atomic, arch: Audit atomic_{read,set}()
This patch makes sure that atomic_{read,set}() are at least {READ,WRITE}_ONCE(). We already had the 'requirement' that atomic_read() should use ACCESS_ONCE(), and most archs had this, but a few were lacking. All are now converted to use READ_ONCE(). And, by a symmetry and general paranoia argument, upgrade atomic_set() to use WRITE_ONCE(). dma-mapping: consolidate dma_set_mask
Almost everyone implements dma_set_mask the same way, although some time that's hidden in ->set_dma_mask methods. This patch consolidates those into a common implementation that either calls ->set_dma_mask if present or otherwise uses the default implementation. Some architectures used to only call ->set_dma_mask after the initial checks, and those instance have been fixed to do the full work. h8300 implemented dma_set_mask bogusly as a no-ops and has been fixed. Unfortunately some architectures overload unrelated semantics like changing the dma_ops into it so we still need to allow for an architecture override for now. dma-mapping: consolidate dma_supported
Most architectures just call into ->dma_supported, but some also return 1 if the method is not present, or 0 if no dma ops are present (although that should never happeb). Consolidate this more broad version into common code. Also fix h8300 which inorrectly always returned 0, which would have been a problem if it's dma_set_mask implementation wasn't a similarly buggy noop. As a few architectures have much more elaborate implementations, we still allow for arch overrides. dma-mapping: consolidate dma_{alloc,free}_noncoherent
Most architectures do not support non-coherent allocations and either define dma_{alloc,free}_noncoherent to their coherent versions or stub them out. Openrisc uses dma_{alloc,free}_attrs to implement them, and only Mips implements them directly. This patch moves the Openrisc version to common code, and handles the DMA_ATTR_NON_CONSISTENT case in the mips dma_map_ops instance. Note that actual non-coherent allocations require a dma_cache_sync implementation, so if non-coherent allocations didn't work on an architecture before this patch they still won't work after it. dma-mapping: consolidate dma_{alloc,free}_{attrs,coherent}
Since 2009 we have a nice asm-generic header implementing lots of DMA API functions for architectures using struct dma_map_ops, but unfortunately it's still missing a lot of APIs that all architectures still have to duplicate. This series consolidates the remaining functions, although we still need arch opt outs for two of them as a few architectures have very non-standard implementations. This patch (of 5): The coherent DMA allocator works the same over all architectures supporting dma_map operations. This patch consolidates them and converges the minor differences: - the debug_dma helpers are now called from all architectures, including those that were previously missing them - dma_alloc_from_coherent and dma_release_from_coherent are now always called from the generic alloc/free routines instead of the ops dma-mapping-common.h always includes dma-coherent.h to get the defintions for them, or the stubs if the architecture doesn't support this feature - checks for ->alloc / ->free presence are removed. There is only one magic instead of dma_map_ops without them (mic_dma_ops) and that one is x86 only anyway. Besides that only x86 needs special treatment to replace a default devices if none is passed and tweak the gfp_flags. An optional arch hook is provided for that. the new buffer is at 0x46fe000000ULL, decompressor_gzip is using
0xffffffb901ffffff as out_len. gunzip in lib/zlib_inflate/inflate.c cap
that len to 0x01ffffff and decompress fails later.
We could hit this problem with crashkernel booting that uses kexec loading
kernel above 4GiB.
We have decompress_* support:
1. inbuf[]/outbuf[] for kernel preboot.
2. inbuf[]/flush() for initramfs
3. fill()/flush() for initrd.
This bug only affect kernel preboot path that use outbuf[].
Add __decompress and take real out_buf_len for gunzip instead of guessing
wrong buf size.

kexec: split kexec_load syscall from kexec core code
There are two kexec load syscalls, kexec_load another and kexec_file_load. kexec_file_load has been splited as kernel/kexec_file.c. In this patch I split kexec_load syscall code to kernel/kexec.c. And add a new kconfig option KEXEC_CORE, so we can disable kexec_load and use kexec_file_load only, or vice verse. The original requirement is from Ted Ts'o, he want kexec kernel signature being checked with CONFIG_KEXEC_VERIFY_SIG enabled. But kexec-tools use kexec_load syscall can bypass the checking. Vivek Goyal proposed to create a common kconfig option so user can compile in only one syscall for loading kexec kernel. KEXEC/KEXEC_FILE selects KEXEC_CORE so that old config files still work. Because there's general code need CONFIG_KEXEC_CORE, so I updated all the architecture Kconfig with a new option KEXEC_CORE, and let KEXEC selects KEXEC_CORE in arch Kconfig. Also updated general kernel code with to kexec_load syscall. [akpm@linux-foundation.org: coding-style fixes] Signed-off-by: Dave Young <dyoung@redhat.com> Cc: Eric W. This facility is used by the pmem driver to enable pfn_to_page() operations on the page frames returned by DAX ('direct_access' in 'struct block_device_operations'). For now, the 'memmap' allocation for these "device" pages comes from "System RAM". Support for allocating the memmap from device memory will arrive in a later kernel. 2/ Introduce memremap() to replace usages of ioremap_cache() and ioremap_wt(). memremap() drops the __iomem annotation for these mappings to memory that do not have i/o side effects. The replacement of ioremap_cache() with memremap() is limited to the pmem driver to ease merging the api change in v4.3. Completion of the conversion is targeted for v4.4. 3/ Similar to the usage of memcpy_to_pmem() + wmb_pmem() in the pmem driver, update the VFS DAX implementation and PMEM api to provide persistence guarantees for kernel operations on a DAX mapping. 4/ Convert the ACPI NFIT 'BLK' driver to map the block apertures as cacheable to improve performance. 5/ Miscellaneous updates and fixes to libnvdimm including support for issuing "address range scrub" commands, clarifying the optimal 'sector size' of pmem devices, a clarification of the usage of the ACPI '_STA' (status) property for DIMM devices, and other minor fixes. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 iQIcBAABAgAGBQJV6Nx7AAoJEB7SkWpmfYgCWyYQAI5ju6Gvw27RNFtPovHcZUf5 JGnxXejI6/AqeTQ+IulgprxtEUCrXOHjCDA5dkjr1qvsoqK1qxug+vJHOZLgeW0R OwDtmdW4Qrgeqm+CPoxETkorJ8wDOc8mol81kTiMgeV3UqbYeeHIiTAmwe7VzZ0C nNdCRDm5g8dHCjTKcvK3rvozgyoNoWeBiHkPe76EbnxDICxCB5dak7XsVKNMIVFQ NuYlnw6IYN7+rMHgpgpRux38NtIW8VlYPWTmHExejc2mlioWMNBG/bmtwLyJ6M3e zliz4/cnonTMUaizZaVozyinTa65m7wcnpjK+vlyGV2deDZPJpDRvSOtB0lH30bR 1gy+qrKzuGKpaN6thOISxFLLjmEeYwzYd7SvC9n118r32qShz+opN9XX0WmWSFlA sajE1ehm4M7s5pkMoa/dRnAyR8RUPu4RNINdQ/Z9jFfAOx+Q26rLdQXwf9+uqbEb bIeSQwOteK5vYYCstvpAcHSMlJAglzIX5UfZBvtEIJN7rlb0VhmGWfxAnTu+ktG1 o9cqAt+J4146xHaFwj5duTsyKhWb8BL9+xqbKPNpXEp+PbLsrnE/+WkDLFD67jxz dgIoK60mGnVXp+16I2uMqYYDgAyO5zUdmM4OygOMnZNa1mxesjbDJC6Wat1Wsndn slsw6DkrWT60CRE42nbK =o57/ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'libnvdimm-for-4.3' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/nvdimm/nvdimm Pull libnvdimm updates from Dan Williams: "This update has successfully completed a 0day-kbuild run and has appeared in a linux-next release. Mostly this is just clean ups and micro optimizations.
The changes with more meat are: o Allowing the trace event filters to filter on CPU number and process ids o Two new markers for trace output latency were added (10 and 100 msec latencies) o Have tracing_thresh filter function profiling time I also worked on modifying the ring buffer code for some future work, and moved the adding of the timestamp around. One of my changes caused a regression, and since other changes were built on top of it and already tested, I had to operate a revert of that change. Instead of rebasing, this change set has the code that caused a regression as well as the code to revert that change without touching the other changes that were made on top of it. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 iQEcBAABAgAGBQJV6aZEAAoJEEjnJuOKh9ldrR4H/A1RcQf1prLLoUibPP4w3lat dmQcdpS1NY+cqyiKuKPAOkFDGQL7qWzRqZ8whcPSJIsHq57ufqNSLf+0bbQYPzg9 g3CgGL7OApmGi5ulj0sNxhadvc9TFm/SAN0nVJlNuUWdm8e1UWHLsrJZaMfopu2r RDEtkOhg619mhDL4rktNdS6rk0B92Fhu2o2PwLZPVlUl1NNEt4WJU+ejitXUVO1A Nb70/rTGGJKtyHbW+74on4LnEN5Uu0Viu6rMwGfYyIgRmC2otdBDvE4xfKMiTUKr SzBjzrhIoMIRn4Vl0vElfulkpYaw7pcC2BdpZ4d9VpIOiLSlZs0x/TgCtpFEv5M= =baZ3 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'trace-v4.3' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rostedt/linux-trace Pull tracing update from Steven Rostedt: "Mostly this is just clean ups and micro optimizations. Now every architecture supports the primitives consistently (by Peter Zijlstra) - Generic support for 'relaxed atomics': - _acquire/release/relaxed() flavours of xchg(), cmpxchg() and {add,sub}_return() - atomic_read_acquire() - atomic_set_release() This came out of porting qwrlock code to arm64 (by Will Deacon) - Clean up the fragile static_key APIs that were causing repeat bugs, by introducing a new one: DEFINE_STATIC_KEY_TRUE(name); DEFINE_STATIC_KEY_FALSE(name); which define a key of different types with an initial true/false value. Then allow: static_branch_likely() static_branch_unlikely() to take a key of either type and emit the right instruction for the case. mm: ZONE_DEVICE for "device memory"
While pmem is usable as a block device or via DAX mappings to userspace there are several usage scenarios that can not target pmem due to its lack of struct page coverage. In preparation for "hot plugging" pmem into the vmemmap add ZONE_DEVICE as a new zone to tag these pages separately from the ones that are subject to standard page allocations. Importantly "device memory" can be removed at will by userspace unbinding the driver of the device. Having a separate zone prevents allocation and otherwise marks these pages that are distinct from typical uniform memory. Device memory has different lifetime and performance characteristics than RAM. However, since we have run out of ZONES_SHIFT bits this functionality currently depends on sacrificing ZONE_DMA. Cc: H. arch: introduce memremap()
Existing users of ioremap_cache() are mapping memory that is known in advance to not have i/o side effects. These users are forced to cast away the __iomem annotation, or otherwise neglect to fix the sparse errors thrown when dereferencing pointers to this memory. Provide memremap() as a non __iomem annotated ioremap_*() in the case when ioremap is otherwise a pointer to cacheable memory. Empirically, ioremap_<cacheable-type>() call sites are seeking memory-like semantics (e.g. speculative reads, and prefetching permitted). memremap() is a break from the ioremap implementation pattern of adding a new memremap_<type>() for each mapping type and having silent compatibility fall backs. Instead, the implementation defines flags that are passed to the central memremap() and if a mapping type is not supported by an arch memremap returns NULL. We introduce a memremap prototype as a trivial wrapper of ioremap_cache() and ioremap_wt(). Later, once all ioremap_cache() and ioremap_wt() usage has been removed from drivers we teach archs to implement arch_memremap() with the ability to strictly enforce the mapping type. Migrate sh driver to the new 'set-state' interface provided by clockevents core, the earlier 'set-mode' interface is marked obsolete now. This also enables us to implement callbacks for new states of clockevent devices, for example: ONESHOT_STOPPED. We weren't doing anything in the ->set_mode() callback. arch/*/io.h: Add ioremap_uc() to all architectures
This adds ioremap_uc() only for architectures that do not include asm-generic.h/io.h as that already provides a default definition for them for both cases where you have CONFIG_MMU and you do not, and because of this, the number of architectures this patch address is less than the architectures that the ioremap_wt() patch addressed, "arch/*/io.h: Add ioremap_wt() to all architectures"). In order to reduce the number of architectures we have to modify by adding new architecture IO APIs we'll have to review the architectures in this patch, see why they can't add asm-generic.h/io.h or issues that would be created by doing so and then spread a consistent inclusion of this header towards the end of their own header. For instance arch/metag includes the asm-generic/io.h *before* the ioremap*() definitions, this should be the other way around but only once we have guard wrappers for the non-MMU case also for asm-generic/io.h. mm: new mm hook framework
CRIU is recreating the process memory layout by remapping the checkpointee memory area on top of the current process (criu). This includes remapping the vDSO to the place it has at checkpoint time. However some architectures like powerpc are keeping a reference to the vDSO base address to build the signal return stack frame by calling the vDSO sigreturn service. So once the vDSO has been moved, this reference is no more valid and the signal frame built later are not usable. This patch serie is introducing a new mm hook framework, and a new arch_remap hook which is called when mremap is done and the mm lock still hold. The next patch is adding the vDSO remap and unmap tracking to the powerpc architecture. This patch (of 3): This patch introduces a new set of header file to manage mm hooks: - per architecture empty header file (arch/x/include/asm/mm-arch-hooks.h) - a generic header (include/linux/mm-arch-hooks.h) The architecture which need to overwrite a hook as to redefine it in its header file, while architecture which doesn't need have nothing to do. The default hooks are defined in the generic header and are used in the case the architecture is not defining it. In a next step, mm hooks defined in include/asm-generic/mm_hooks.h should be moved here. Merge branch 'for-linus-clk' of git://ftp.arm.linux.org.uk/~rmk/linux-arm
Pull clkdev updates from Russell King: "This series addresses some breakage in clkdev caused by a previous patch set from the clk tree which introduced per-user clk structures. This basically renamed the existing 'struct clk' to 'struct clk_hw', and introduced a new 'struct clk'. This change will break anyone using clk_add_alias() with the common clk code enabled. Thankfully, the intersection of users of clk_add_alias() and those using the common clk code is practically zero, but this is something which should be fixed to keep the code sane. The problem is that clk_add_alias() does this: r = clk_get(...); l = clkdev_alloc(r, ...); clk_put(...); which causes the alias to store a pointer to 'r', which has been freed. The original patch set tried to work around this problem incorrectly - at clk_get() time, it tried to convert the struct clk to a struct clk_hw, and then creating a new struct clk from that. Clearly, if the original struct clk has been freed, then we have a use-after-free bug. We have other places in the tree which do something similar, so this series also addresses those locations too. This series addresses this problem by converting clkdev to store and use the clk_hw pointer. This allows clk_get() to only have to create it's per-user struct clk from the clk_hw. We can also get to the desired clk_hw at clk_add_alias() or clk lookup creation time, when the struct clk is "alive". We also perform some cleanups of the code: - replacing looped calls to clkdev_add() with clkdev_add_table() - replacing open-coded lookup allocation (which should have been using clkdev_alloc()) and subsequent clkdev_add() with clkdev_create() - replacing open-coded clk_add_alias() with clk_add_alias()" * 'for-linus-clk' of git://ftp.arm.linux.org.uk/~rmk/linux-arm: clk: s2mps11: use clkdev_create() ASoC: migor: use clkdev_create() ARM: omap2: use clkdev_add_alias() ARM: omap2: use clkdev_create() ARM: orion: use clkdev_create() ARM: lpc32xx: convert to use clkdev_add_table() SH: use clkdev_add_table() clkdev: add clkdev_create() helper clkdev: const-ify connection id to clk_add_alias() clkdev: get rid of redundant clk_add_alias() prototype in linux/clk.h clkdev: drop __init from clkdev_add_table() clk: update clk API documentation to clarify clk_round_rate() clkdev: use clk_hw internally |

sh: don't use module_init in non-modular psw.c code
The psw.o is built for obj-y -- and hence this code is always present. It will never be modular, so using module_init as an alias for __initcall can be somewhat misleading. Fix this up now, so that we can relocate module_init from init.h into module.h in the future. If we don't do this, we'd have to add module.h to obviously non-modular code, and that would be a worse thing. Note that direct use of __initcall is discouraged, vs. one of the priority categorized subgroups. As __initcall gets mapped onto device_initcall, our use of device_initcall directly in this change means that the runtime impact is zero -- it will remain at level 6 in initcall ordering. sh: mach-highlander/psw.c is tristate and should use module.h
This file is controlled by a tristate Kconfig option, and hence needs to include module.h so that it can get module_init() once we relocate it from init.h into module.h in the future. Note that module_exit() appears to be missing from the driver, so it is questionable whether it would actually work for a removal and reload cycle if it was configured for a modular build. mm/fault, arch: Use pagefault_disable() to check for disabled pagefaults in the handler
Introduce faulthandler_disabled() and use it to check for irq context and disabled pagefaults (via pagefault_disable()) in the pagefault handlers. Please note that we keep the in_atomic() checks in place - to detect whether in irq context (in which case preemption is always properly disabled). In contrast, preempt_disable() should never be used to disable pagefaults. With !CONFIG_PREEMPT_COUNT, preempt_disable() doesn't modify the preempt counter, and therefore the result of in_atomic() differs. We validate that condition by using might_fault() checks when calling might_sleep(). Therefore, add a comment to faulthandler_disabled(), describing why this is needed. faulthandler_disabled() and pagefault_disable() are defined in linux/uaccess.h, so let's properly add that include to all relevant files. PCI: Assign resources before drivers claim devices (pci_scan_root_bus())
Previously, pci_scan_root_bus() created a root PCI bus, enumerated the devices on it, and called pci_bus_add_devices(), which made the devices available for drivers to claim them. Most callers assigned resources to devices after pci_scan_root_bus() returns, which may be after drivers have claimed the devices. This is incorrect; the PCI core should not change device resources while a driver is managing the device. Remove pci_bus_add_devices() from pci_scan_root_bus() and do it after any resource assignment in the callers. Note that ARM's pci_common_init_dev() already called pci_bus_add_devices() after pci_scan_root_bus(), so we only need to remove the first call: pci_common_init_dev pcibios_init_hw pci_scan_root_bus pci_bus_add_devices # first call pci_bus_assign_resources pci_bus_add_devices # second call [bhelgaas: changelog, drop "root_bus" var in alpha common_init_pci(), return failure earlier in mn10300, add "return" in x86 pcibios_scan_root(), return early if xtensa platform_pcibios_fixup() fails] Signed-off-by: Yijing Wang <wangyijing@huawei.com> Signed-off-by: Bjorn Helgaas <bhelgaas@google.com> CC: Richard Henderson <rth@twiddle.net> CC: Ivan Kokshaysky <ink@jurassic.park.msu.ru> CC: Matt Turner <mattst88@gmail.com> CC: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> CC: Tony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com> CC: Michal Simek <monstr@monstr.eu> CC: Ralf Baechle <ralf@linux-mips.org> CC: Koichi Yasutake <yasutake.koichi@jp.panasonic.com> CC: Sebastian Ott <sebott@linux.vnet.ibm.com> CC: "David S. all arches, signal: move restart_block to struct task_struct
If an attacker can cause a controlled kernel stack overflow, overwriting the restart block is a very juicy exploit target. This is because the restart_block is held in the same memory allocation as the kernel stack. Moving the restart block to struct task_struct prevents this exploit by making the restart_block harder to locate. Note that there are other fields in thread_info that are also easy targets, at least on some architectures. It's also a decent simplification, since the restart code is more or less identical on all architectures. mm/hugetlb: reduce arch dependent code around follow_huge_*
Currently we have many duplicates in definitions around follow_huge_addr(), follow_huge_pmd(), and follow_huge_pud(), so this patch tries to remove the m. The basic idea is to put the default implementation for these functions in mm/hugetlb.c as weak symbols (regardless of CONFIG_ARCH_WANT_GENERAL_HUGETL B), and to implement arch-specific code only when the arch needs it. For follow_huge_addr(), only powerpc and ia64 have their own implementation, and in all other architectures this function just returns ERR_PTR(-EINVAL). So this patch sets returning ERR_PTR(-EINVAL) as default. As for follow_huge_(pmd|pud)(), if (pmd|pud)_huge() is implemented to always return 0 in your architecture (like in ia64 or sparc,) it's never called (the callsite is optimized away) no matter how implemented it is. So in such architectures, we don't need arch-specific implementation. In some architecture (like mips, s390 and tile,) their current arch-specific follow_huge_(pmd|pud)() are effectively identical with the common code, so this patch lets these architecture use the common code. One exception is metag, where pmd_huge() could return non-zero but it expects follow_huge_pmd() to always return NULL. This means that we need arch-specific implementation which returns NULL. This behavior looks strange to me (because non-zero pmd_huge() implies that the architecture supports PMD-based hugepage, so follow_huge_pmd() can/should return some relevant value,) but that's beyond this cleanup patch, so let's keep it. Justification of non-trivial changes: - in s390, follow_huge_pmd() checks !MACHINE_HAS_HPAGE at first, and this patch removes the check. This is OK because we can assume MACHINE_HAS_HPAGE is true when follow_huge_pmd() can be called (note that pmd_huge() has the same check and always returns 0 for !MACHINE_HAS_HPAGE.) - in s390 and mips, we use HPAGE_MASK instead of PMD_MASK as done in common code. This patch forces these archs use PMD_MASK, but it's OK because they are identical in both archs. In s390, both of HPAGE_SHIFT and PMD_SHIFT are 20. In mips, HPAGE_SHIFT is defined as (PAGE_SHIFT + PAGE_SHIFT - 3) and PMD_SHIFT is define as (PAGE_SHIFT + PAGE_SHIFT + PTE_ORDER - 3), but PTE_ORDER is always 0, so these are identical. vm: add VM_FAULT_SIGSEGV handling support
The core VM already knows about VM_FAULT_SIGBUS, but cannot return a
"you should SIGSEGV" error, because the SIGSEGV case was generally
handled by the caller - usually the architecture fault handler.
That results in lots of duplication - all the architecture fault
handlers end up doing very similar "look up vma, check permissions, do
retries etc" - but it generally works. However, there are cases where
the VM actually wants to SIGSEGV, and applications _expect_ SIGSEGV.
In particular, when accessing the stack guard page, libsigsegv expects a
SIGSEGV. And it usually got one, because the stack growth is handled by
that duplicated architecture fault handler.
However, when the generic VM layer started propagating the error return
from the stack expansion in commit

sh: fix put_user sparse errors
virtio wants to write bitwise types to userspace using put_user. At the moment this triggers sparse errors, since the value is passed through an integer. For example: __le32 __user *p; __le32 x; put_user(x, p); is safe, but currently triggers a sparse warning. Fix that up using __force. Note: this does not suppress any useful sparse checks since caller assigns x to typeof(*p), which in turn forces all the necessary type checks. Signed-off-by: Michael S. Tsirkin <mst@redhat.com> |

ACPI and power management updates for 3.19-rc1
This time we have some more new material than we used to have during the last couple of development cycles. The most important part of it to me is the introduction of a unified interface for accessing device properties provided by platform firmware. It works with Device Trees and ACPI in a uniform way and drivers using it need not worry about where the properties come from as long as the platform firmware (either DT or ACPI) makes them available. It covers both devices and "bare" device node objects without struct device representation as that turns out to be necessary in some cases. This has been in the works for quite a few months (and development cycles) and has been approved by all of the relevant maintainers. On top of that, some drivers are switched over to the new interface (at25, leds-gpio, gpio_keys_polled) and some additional changes are made to the core GPIO subsystem to allow device drivers to manipulate GPIOs in the "canonical" way on platforms that provide GPIO information in their ACPI tables, but don't assign names to GPIO lines (in which case the driver needs to do that on the basis of what it knows about the device in question). That also has been approved by the GPIO core maintainers and the rfkill driver is now going to use it. Second is support for hardware P-states in the intel_pstate driver. It uses CPUID to detect whether or not the feature is supported by the processor in which case it will be enabled by default. However, it can be disabled entirely from the kernel command line if necessary. Next is support for a platform firmware interface based on ACPI operation regions used by the PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) chips on the Intel Baytrail-T and Baytrail-T-CR platforms. That interface is used for manipulating power resources and for thermal management: sensor temperature reporting, trip point setting and so on. Also the ACPI core is now going to support the _DEP configuration information in a limited way. Basically, _DEP it supposed to reflect off-the-hierarchy dependencies between devices which may be very indirect, like when AML for one device accesses locations in an operation region handled by another device's driver (usually, the device depended on this way is a serial bus or GPIO controller). The support added this time is sufficient to make the ACPI battery driver work on Asus T100A, but it is general enough to be able to cover some other use cases in the future. Finally, we have a new cpufreq driver for the Loongson1B processor. In addition to the above, there are fixes and cleanups all over the place as usual and a traditional ACPICA update to a recent upstream release. As far as the fixes go, the ACPI LPSS (Low-power Subsystem) driver for Intel platforms should be able to handle power management of the DMA engine correctly, the cpufreq-dt driver should interact with the thermal subsystem in a better way and the ACPI backlight driver should handle some more corner cases, among other things. On top of the ACPICA update there are fixes for race conditions in the ACPICA's interrupt handling code which might lead to some random and strange looking failures on some systems. In the cleanups department the most visible part is the series of commits targeted at getting rid of the CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME configuration option. That was triggered by a discussion regarding the generic power domains code during which we realized that trying to support certain combinations of PM config options was painful and not really worth it, because nobody would use them in production anyway. For this reason, we decided to make CONFIG_PM_SLEEP select CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME and that lead to the conclusion that the latter became redundant and CONFIG_PM could be used instead of it. The material here makes that replacement in a major part of the tree, but there will be at least one more batch of that in the second part of the merge window. Specifics: - Support for retrieving device properties information from ACPI _DSD device configuration objects and a unified device properties interface for device drivers (and subsystems) on top of that. As stated above, this works with Device Trees and ACPI and allows device drivers to be written in a platform firmware (DT or ACPI) agnostic way. The at25, leds-gpio and gpio_keys_polled drivers are now going to use this new interface and the GPIO subsystem is additionally modified to allow device drivers to assign names to GPIO resources returned by ACPI _CRS objects (in case _DSD is not present or does not provide the expected data). The changes in this set are mostly from Mika Westerberg, Rafael J Wysocki, Aaron Lu, and Darren Hart with some fixes from others (Fabio Estevam, Geert Uytterhoeven). - Support for Hardware Managed Performance States (HWP) as described in Volume 3, section 14.4, of the Intel SDM in the intel_pstate driver. CPUID is used to detect whether or not the feature is supported by the processor. If supported, it will be enabled automatically unless the intel_pstate=no_hwp switch is present in the kernel command line. From Dirk Brandewie. - New Intel Broadwell-H ID for intel_pstate (Dirk Brandewie). - Support for firmware interface based on ACPI operation regions used by the PMIC chips on the Intel Baytrail-T and Baytrail-T-CR platforms for power resource control and thermal management (Aaron Lu). - Limited support for retrieving off-the-hierarchy dependencies between devices from ACPI _DEP device configuration objects and deferred probing support for the ACPI battery driver based on the _DEP information to make that driver work on Asus T100A (Lan Tianyu). - New cpufreq driver for the Loongson1B processor (Kelvin Cheung). - ACPICA update to upstream revision 20141107 which only affects tools (Bob Moore). - Fixes for race conditions in the ACPICA's interrupt handling code and in the ACPI code related to system suspend and resume (Lv Zheng and Rafael J Wysocki). - ACPI core fix for an RCU-related issue in the ioremap() regions management code that slowed down significantly after CPUs had been allowed to enter idle states even if they'd had RCU callbakcs queued and triggered some problems in certain proprietary graphics driver (and elsewhere). The fix replaces synchronize_rcu() in that code with synchronize_rcu_expedited() which makes the issue go away. From Konstantin Khlebnikov. - ACPI LPSS (Low-Power Subsystem) driver fix to handle power management of the DMA engine included into the LPSS correctly. The problem is that the DMA engine doesn't have ACPI PM support of its own and it simply is turned off when the last LPSS device having ACPI PM support goes into D3cold. To work around that, the PM domain used by the ACPI LPSS driver is redesigned so at least one device with ACPI PM support will be on as long as the DMA engine is in use. From Andy Shevchenko. - ACPI backlight driver fix to avoid using it on "Win8-compatible" systems where it doesn't work and where it was used by default by mistake (Aaron Lu). - Assorted minor ACPI core fixes and cleanups from Tomasz Nowicki, Sudeep Holla, Huang Rui, Hanjun Guo, Fabian Frederick, and Ashwin Chaugule (mostly related to the upcoming ARM64 support). - Intel RAPL (Running Average Power Limit) power capping driver fixes and improvements including new processor IDs (Jacob Pan). - Generic power domains modification to power up domains after attaching devices to them to meet the expectations of device drivers and bus types assuming devices to be accessible at probe time (Ulf Hansson). - Preliminary support for controlling device clocks from the generic power domains core code and modifications of the ARM/shmobile platform to use that feature (Ulf Hansson). - Assorted minor fixes and cleanups of the generic power domains core code (Ulf Hansson, Geert Uytterhoeven). - Assorted minor fixes and cleanups of the device clocks control code in the PM core (Geert Uytterhoeven, Grygorii Strashko). - Consolidation of device power management Kconfig options by making CONFIG_PM_SLEEP select CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME and removing the latter which is now redundant (Rafael J Wysocki and Kevin Hilman). That is the first batch of the changes needed for this purpose. - Core device runtime power management support code cleanup related to the execution of callbacks (Andrzej Hajda). - cpuidle ARM support improvements (Lorenzo Pieralisi). - cpuidle cleanup related to the CPUIDLE_FLAG_TIME_VALID flag and a new MAINTAINERS entry for ARM Exynos cpuidle (Daniel Lezcano and Bartlomiej Zolnierkiewicz). - New cpufreq driver callback (->ready) to be executed when the cpufreq core is ready to use a given policy object and cpufreq-dt driver modification to use that callback for cooling device registration (Viresh Kumar). - cpufreq core fixes and cleanups (Viresh Kumar, Vince Hsu, James Geboski, Tomeu Vizoso). - Assorted fixes and cleanups in the cpufreq-pcc, intel_pstate, cpufreq-dt, pxa2xx cpufreq drivers (Lenny Szubowicz, Ethan Zhao, Stefan Wahren, Petr Cvek). - OPP (Operating Performance Points) framework modification to allow OPPs to be removed too and update of a few cpufreq drivers (cpufreq-dt, exynos5440, imx6q, cpufreq) to remove OPPs (added during initialization) on driver removal (Viresh Kumar). - Hibernation core fixes and cleanups (Tina Ruchandani and Markus Elfring). - PM Kconfig fix related to CPU power management (Pankaj Dubey). - cpupower tool fix (Prarit Bhargava). / -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.22 (GNU/Linux) iQIcBAABCAAGBQJUhj6JAAoJEILEb/54YlRxTM4P/j5g5SfqvY0QKsn7sR7MGZ6v nsgCBhJAqTw3ocNC7EAs8z9h2GWy1KbKpakKYWAh9Fs1yZoey7tFSlcv/Rgjlp70 uU5sDQHtpE9mHKiymdsowiQuWgpl962L4k+k8hUslhlvgk1PvVbpajR6OqG8G+pD asuIW9eh1APNkLyXmRJ3ZPomzs0VmRdZJ0NEs0lKX9mJskqEvxPIwdaxq3iaJq9B Fo0J345zUDcJnxWblDRdHlOigCimglElfN5qJwaC4KpwUKuBvLRKbp4f69+wfT0c kYFiR29X5KjJ2kLfP/wKsLyuDCYYXRq3tCia5M1tAqOjZ+UA89H/GDftx/5lntmv qUlBa35VfdS1SX4HyApZitOHiLgo+It/hl8Z9bJnhyVw66NxmMQ8JYN2imb8Lhqh XCLR7BxLTah82AapLJuQ0ZDHPzZqMPG2veC2vAzRMYzVijict/p4Y2+qBqONltER 4rs9uRVn+hamX33lCLg8BEN8zqlnT3rJFIgGaKjq/wXHAU/zpE9CjOrKMQcAg9+s t51XMNPwypHMAYyGVhEL89ImjXnXxBkLRuquhlmEpvQchIhR+mR3dLsarGn7da44 WPIQJXzcsojXczcwwfqsJCR4I1FTFyQIW+UNh02GkDRgRovQqo+Jk762U7vQwqH+ LBdhvVaS1VW4v+FWXEoZ =5dox -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'pm+acpi-3.19-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm Pull ACPI and power management updates from Rafael Wysocki: "This time we have some more new material than we used to have during the last couple of development cycles. - cpupower tool fix (Prarit Bhargava)" * tag 'pm+acpi-3.19-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm: (120 commits) i2c-omap / PM: Drop CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME from i2c-omap.c dmaengine / PM: Replace CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME with CONFIG_PM tools: cpupower: fix return checks for sysfs_get_idlestate_count() drivers: sh / PM: Replace CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME with CONFIG_PM e1000e / igb / PM: Eliminate CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME MMC / PM: Replace CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME with CONFIG_PM MFD / PM: Replace CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME with CONFIG_PM misc / PM: Replace CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME with CONFIG_PM media / PM: Replace CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME with CONFIG_PM input / PM: Replace CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME with CONFIG_PM leds: leds-gpio: Fix multiple instances registration without 'label' property iio / PM: Replace CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME with CONFIG_PM hsi / OMAP / PM: Replace CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME with CONFIG_PM i2c-hid / PM: Replace CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME with CONFIG_PM drm / exynos / PM: Replace CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME with CONFIG_PM gpio / PM: Replace CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME with CONFIG_PM hwrandom / exynos / PM: Use CONFIG_PM in #ifdef block / PM: Replace CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME with CONFIG_PM USB / PM: Drop CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME from the USB core PM: Merge the SET*_RUNTIME_PM_OPS() macros ... |

sh: off by one BUG_ON() in setup_bootmem_node()
This off by one bug is harmless but it upsets the static checkers and the code is obvious so it doesn't hurt to fix it. net, lib: kill arch_fast_hash library bits
As there are now no remaining users of arch_fast_hash(), lets kill it entirely. This basically reverts commit |
