Guillaume Nault f9e56baf03 l2tp: hold tunnel in pppol2tp_connect()
Use l2tp_tunnel_get() in pppol2tp_connect() to ensure the tunnel isn't
going to disappear while processing the rest of the function.

Guillaume Nault f98be6c635 l2tp: initialise PPP sessions before registering them
pppol2tp_connect() initialises L2TP sessions after they've been exposed
to the rest of the system by l2tp_session_register(). This puts
sessions into transient states that are the source of several races, in
particular with session's deletion path.

This patch centralises the initialisation code into
pppol2tp_session_init(), which is called before the registration phase.
The only field that can't be set before session registration is the
pppol2tp socket pointer, which has already been converted to RCU. So
pppol2tp_connect() should now be race-free.

The session's .session_close() callback is now set before registration.
Therefore, it's always called when l2tp_core deletes the session, even
if it was created by pppol2tp_session_create() and hasn't been plugged
to a pppol2tp socket yet. That'd prevent session free because the extra
reference taken by pppol2tp_session_close() wouldn't be dropped by the
socket's ->sk_destruct() callback (pppol2tp_session_destruct()).
We could set .session_close() only while connecting a session to its
pppol2tp socket, or teach pppol2tp_session_close() to avoid grabbing a
reference when the session isn't connected, but that'd require adding
some form of synchronisation to be race free.

Instead of that, we can just let the pppol2tp socket hold a reference
on the session as soon as it starts depending on it (that is, in
pppol2tp_connect()). Then we don't need to utilise
pppol2tp_session_close() to hold a reference at the last moment to
prevent l2tp_core from dropping it.

When releasing the socket, pppol2tp_release() now deletes the session
using the standard l2tp_session_delete() function, instead of merely
removing it from hash tables. l2tp_session_delete() drops the reference
the sessions holds on itself, but also makes sure it doesn't remove a
session twice. So it can safely be called, even if l2tp_core already
tried, or is concurrently trying, to remove the session.
Finally, pppol2tp_session_destruct() drops the reference held by the
socket.

Guillaume Nault ee40fb2e1e l2tp: protect sock pointer of struct pppol2tp_session with RCU
pppol2tp_session_create() registers sessions that can't have their
corresponding socket initialised. This socket has to be created by
userspace, then connected to the session by pppol2tp_connect().
Therefore, we need to protect the pppol2tp socket pointer of L2TP
sessions, so that it can safely be updated when userspace is connecting
or closing the socket. This will eventually allow pppol2tp_connect()
to avoid generating transient states while initialising its parts of the
session.

To this end, this patch protects the pppol2tp socket pointer using RCU.

The pppol2tp socket pointer is still set in pppol2tp_connect(), but
only once we know the function isn't going to fail. It's eventually
reset by pppol2tp_release(), which now has to wait for a grace period
to elapse before it can drop the last reference on the socket. This
ensures that pppol2tp_session_get_sock() can safely grab a reference
on the socket, even after ps->sk is reset to NULL but before this
operation actually gets visible from pppol2tp_session_get_sock().

The rest is standard RCU conversion: pppol2tp_recv(), which already
runs in atomic context, is simply enclosed by rcu_read_lock() and
rcu_read_unlock(), while other functions are converted to use
pppol2tp_session_get_sock() followed by sock_put().
pppol2tp_session_setsockopt() is a special case. It used to retrieve
the pppol2tp socket from the L2TP session, which itself was retrieved
from the pppol2tp socket. Therefore we can just avoid dereferencing
ps->sk and directly use the original socket pointer instead.

With all users of ps->sk now handling NULL and concurrent updates, the
L2TP ->ref() and ->deref() callbacks aren't needed anymore. Therefore,
rather than converting pppol2tp_session_sock_hold() and
pppol2tp_session_sock_put(), we can just drop them.

Guillaume Nault 3953ae7b21 l2tp: don't register sessions in l2tp_session_create()
Sessions created by l2tp_session_create() aren't fully initialised:
some pseudo-wire specific operations need to be done before making the
session usable. Therefore the PPP and Ethernet pseudo-wires continue
working on the returned l2tp session while it's already been exposed to
the rest of the system.
This can lead to various issues. In particular, the session may enter
the deletion process before having been fully initialised, which will
confuse the session removal code.

This patch moves session registration out of l2tp_session_create(), so
that callers can control when the session is exposed to the rest of the
system. This is done by the new l2tp_session_register() function.

Only pppol2tp_session_create() can be easily converted to avoid
modifying its session after registration (the debug message is dropped
in order to avoid the need for holding a reference on the session).

For pppol2tp_connect() and l2tp_eth_create()), more work is needed.
That'll be done in followup patches. For now, let's just register the
session right after its creation, like it was done before. The only
difference is that we can easily take a reference on the session before
registering it, so, at least, we're sure it's not going to be freed
while we're working on it.

Guillaume Nault 5903f59493 l2tp: check ps->sock before running pppol2tp_session_ioctl()
When pppol2tp_session_ioctl() is called by pppol2tp_tunnel_ioctl(),
the session may be unconnected. That is, it was created by
pppol2tp_session_create() and hasn't been connected with
pppol2tp_connect(). In this case, ps->sock is NULL, so we need to check
for this case in order to avoid dereferencing a NULL pointer.

Guillaume Nault cdd10c9627 l2tp: ensure sessions are freed after their PPPOL2TP socket
If l2tp_tunnel_delete() or l2tp_tunnel_closeall() deletes a session
right after pppol2tp_release() orphaned its socket, then the 'sock'
variable of the pppol2tp_session_close() callback is NULL. Yet the
session is still used by pppol2tp_release().

Therefore we need to take an extra reference in any case, to prevent
l2tp_tunnel_delete() or l2tp_tunnel_closeall() from freeing the session.

Since the pppol2tp_session_close() callback is only set if the session
is associated to a PPPOL2TP socket and that both l2tp_tunnel_delete()
and l2tp_tunnel_closeall() hold the PPPOL2TP socket before calling
pppol2tp_session_close(), we're sure that pppol2tp_session_close() and
pppol2tp_session_destruct() are paired and called in the right order.
So the reference taken by the former will be released by the later.

Guillaume Nault f026bc29a8 l2tp: pass tunnel pointer to ->session_create()
Using l2tp_tunnel_find() in pppol2tp_session_create() and
l2tp_eth_create() is racy, because no reference is held on the
returned session. These functions are only used to implement the
->session_create callback which is run by l2tp_nl_cmd_session_create().
Therefore searching for the parent tunnel isn't necessary because
l2tp_nl_cmd_session_create() already has a pointer to it and holds a
reference.

This patch modifies ->session_create()'s prototype to directly pass the
the parent tunnel as parameter, thus avoiding searching for it in
pppol2tp_session_create() and l2tp_eth_create().

Since we have to touch the ->session_create() call in
l2tp_nl_cmd_session_create(), let's also remove the useless conditional:
we know that ->session_create isn't NULL at this point because it's
already been checked earlier in this same function.

Finally, one might be tempted to think that the removed
l2tp_tunnel_find() calls were harmless because they would return the
same tunnel as the one held by l2tp_nl_cmd_session_create() anyway.
But that tunnel might be removed and a new one created with same tunnel
Id before the l2tp_tunnel_find() call. In this case l2tp_tunnel_find()
would return the new tunnel which wouldn't be protected by the
reference held by l2tp_nl_cmd_session_create().

Guillaume Nault e08293a4cc l2tp: take reference on sessions being dumped
Take a reference on the sessions returned by l2tp_session_find_nth()
(and rename it l2tp_session_get_nth() to reflect this change), so that
caller is assured that the session isn't going to disappear while
processing it.

For procfs and debugfs handlers, the session is held in the .start()
callback and dropped in .show(). Given that pppol2tp_seq_session_show()
dereferences the associated PPPoL2TP socket and that
l2tp_dfs_seq_session_show() might call pppol2tp_show(), we also need to
call the session's .ref() callback to prevent the socket from going
away from under us.

Guillaume Nault dbdbc73b44 l2tp: fix duplicate session creation
l2tp_session_create() relies on its caller for checking for duplicate
sessions. This is racy since a session can be concurrently inserted
after the caller's verification.

Fix this by letting l2tp_session_create() verify sessions uniqueness
upon insertion. Callers need to be adapted to check for
l2tp_session_create()'s return code instead of calling
l2tp_session_find().

pppol2tp_connect() is a bit special because it has to work on existing
sessions (if they're not connected) or to create a new session if none
is found. When acting on a preexisting session, a reference must be
held or it could go away on us. So we have to use l2tp_session_get()
instead of l2tp_session_find() and drop the reference before exiting.

Sasha Levin 3cf521f7dc net/l2tp: don't fall back on UDP [get|set]sockopt
The l2tp [get|set]sockopt() code has fallen back to the UDP functions
for socket option levels != SOL_PPPOL2TP since day one, but that has
never actually worked, since the l2tp socket isn't an inet socket.

As David Miller points out:

  "If we wanted this to work, it'd have to look up the tunnel and then
   use tunnel->sk, but I wonder how useful that would be"

Since this can never have worked so nobody could possibly have depended
on that functionality, just remove the broken code and return -EINVAL.

Dmitry Petukhov f34c4a35d8 l2tp: take PMTU from tunnel UDP socket
When l2tp driver tries to get PMTU for the tunnel destination, it uses
the pointer to struct sock that represents PPPoX socket, while it
should use the pointer that represents UDP socket of the tunnel.

Guillaume Nault 9e9cb6221a l2tp: fix userspace reception on plain L2TP sockets
As pppol2tp_recv() never queues up packets to plain L2TP sockets,
pppol2tp_recvmsg() never returns data to userspace, thus making
the recv*() system calls unusable.

Instead of dropping packets when the L2TP socket isn't bound to a PPP
channel, this patch adds them to its reception queue.

Guillaume Nault bb5016eac1 l2tp: fix manual sequencing (de)activation in L2TPv2
Commit e0d4435f "l2tp: Update PPP-over-L2TP driver to work over L2TPv3"
broke the PPPOL2TP_SO_SENDSEQ setsockopt. The L2TP header length was
previously computed by pppol2tp_l2t_header_len() before each call to
l2tp_xmit_skb(). Now that header length is retrieved from the hdr_len
session field, this field must be updated every time the L2TP header
format is modified, or l2tp_xmit_skb() won't push the right amount of
data for the L2TP header.

This patch uses l2tp_session_set_header_len() to adjust hdr_len every
time sequencing is (de)activated from userspace (either by the
PPPOL2TP_SO_SENDSEQ setsockopt or the L2TP_ATTR_SEND_SEQ netlink
attribute).

stephen hemminger 2045ceaed4 net: remove unnecessary return's
One of my pet coding style peeves is the practice of
adding extra return; at the end of function.
Kill several instances of this in network code.

I suppose some coccinelle wizardy could do this automatically.

Hannes Frederic Sowa f3d3342602 net: rework recvmsg handler msg_name and msg_namelen logic
This patch now always passes msg->msg_namelen as 0. recvmsg handlers must
set msg_namelen to the proper size <= sizeof(struct sockaddr_storage)
to return msg_name to the user.

This prevents numerous uninitialized memory leaks we had in the
recvmsg handlers and makes it harder for new code to accidentally leak
uninitialized memory.

Optimize for the case recvfrom is called with NULL as address. We don't
need to copy the address at all, so set it to NULL before invoking the
recvmsg handler. We can do so, because all the recvmsg handlers must
cope with the case a plain read() is called on them. read() also sets
msg_name to NULL.

Also document these changes in include/linux/net.h as suggested by David
Miller.

Changes since RFC:

Set msg->msg_name = NULL if user specified a NULL in msg_name but had a
non-null msg_namelen in verify_iovec/verify_compat_iovec. This doesn't
affect sendto as it would bail out earlier while trying to copy-in the
address. It also more naturally reflects the logic by the callers of
verify_iovec.

With this change in place I could remove "
if (!uaddr || msg_sys->msg_namelen == 0)
	msg->msg_name = NULL
".

This change does not alter the user visible error logic as we ignore
msg_namelen as long as msg_name is NULL.

Also remove two unnecessary curly brackets in ___sys_recvmsg and change
comments to netdev style.

Eric Dumazet 455cc32bf1 l2tp: must disable bh before calling l2tp_xmit_skb()
François Cachereul made a very nice bug report and suspected
the bh_lock_sock() / bh_unlok_sock() pair used in l2tp_xmit_skb() from
process context was not good.

This problem was added by commit 6af88da14e
("l2tp: Fix locking in l2tp_core.c").

l2tp_eth_dev_xmit() runs from BH context, so we must disable BH
from other l2tp_xmit_skb() users.

Eric Dumazet efe4208f47 ipv6: make lookups simpler and faster
TCP listener refactoring, part 4 :

To speed up inet lookups, we moved IPv4 addresses from inet to struct
sock_common

Now is time to do the same for IPv6, because it permits us to have fast
lookups for all kind of sockets, including upcoming SYN_RECV.

Getting IPv6 addresses in TCP lookups currently requires two extra cache
lines, plus a dereference (and memory stall).

inet6_sk(sk) does the dereference of inet_sk(__sk)->pinet6

This patch is way bigger than its IPv4 counter part, because for IPv4,
we could add aliases (inet_daddr, inet_rcv_saddr), while on IPv6,
it's not doable easily.

inet6_sk(sk)->daddr becomes sk->sk_v6_daddr
inet6_sk(sk)->rcv_saddr becomes sk->sk_v6_rcv_saddr

And timewait socket also have tw->tw_v6_daddr & tw->tw_v6_rcv_saddr
at the same offset.

We get rid of INET6_TW_MATCH() as INET6_MATCH() is now the generic
macro.

Tom Parkin f6e16b299b l2tp: unhash l2tp sessions on delete, not on free
If we postpone unhashing of l2tp sessions until the structure is freed, we
risk:

 1. further packets arriving and getting queued while the pseudowire is being
    closed down
 2. the recv path hitting "scheduling while atomic" errors in the case that
    recv drops the last reference to a session and calls l2tp_session_free
    while in atomic context

As such, l2tp sessions should be unhashed from l2tp_core data structures early
in the teardown process prior to calling pseudowire close. For pseudowires
like l2tp_ppp which have multiple shutdown codepaths, provide an unhash hook.

Tom Parkin 7b7c0719cd l2tp: avoid deadlock in l2tp stats update
l2tp's u64_stats writers were incorrectly synchronised, making it possible to
deadlock a 64bit machine running a 32bit kernel simply by sending the l2tp
code netlink commands while passing data through l2tp sessions.

Previous discussion on netdev determined that alternative solutions such as
spinlock writer synchronisation or per-cpu data would bring unjustified
overhead, given that most users interested in high volume traffic will likely
be running 64bit kernels on 64bit hardware.

As such, this patch replaces l2tp's use of u64_stats with atomic_long_t,
thereby avoiding the deadlock.

Guillaume Nault 8b82547e33 l2tp: Restore socket refcount when sendmsg succeeds
The sendmsg() syscall handler for PPPoL2TP doesn't decrease the socket
reference counter after successful transmissions. Any successful
sendmsg() call from userspace will then increase the reference counter
forever, thus preventing the kernel's session and tunnel data from
being freed later on.

The problem only happens when writing directly on L2TP sockets.
PPP sockets attached to L2TP are unaffected as the PPP subsystem
uses pppol2tp_xmit() which symmetrically increase/decrease reference
counters.

This patch adds the missing call to sock_put() before returning from
pppol2tp_sendmsg().

Eric Dumazet 09df57ca60 l2tp: give proper headroom in pppol2tp_xmit()
pppol2tp_xmit() calls skb_cow_head(skb, 2) before calling
l2tp_xmit_skb()

Then l2tp_xmit_skb() calls again skb_cow_head(skb, large_headroom)

This patchs changes the first skb_cow_head() call to supply the needed
headroom to make sure at most one (expensive) pskb_expand_head() is
done.

James Chapman 0ad6614048 l2tp: Add debugfs files for dumping l2tp debug info
The existing pppol2tp driver exports debug info to
/proc/net/pppol2tp. Rather than adding info to that file for the new
functionality added in this patch series, we add new files in debugfs,
leaving the old /proc file for backwards compatibility (L2TPv2 only).

Currently only one file is provided: l2tp/tunnels, which lists
internal debug info for all l2tp tunnels and sessions. More files may
be added later. The info is for debug and problem analysis only -
userspace apps should use netlink to obtain status about l2tp tunnels
and sessions.

Although debugfs does not support net namespaces, the tunnels and
sessions dumped in l2tp/tunnels are only those in the net namespace of
the process reading the file.

James Chapman 309795f4be l2tp: Add netlink control API for L2TP
In L2TPv3, we need to create/delete/modify/query L2TP tunnel and
session contexts. The number of parameters is significant. So let's
use netlink. Userspace uses this API to control L2TP tunnel/session
contexts in the kernel.

The previous pppol2tp driver was managed using [gs]etsockopt(). This
API is retained for backwards compatibility. Unlike L2TPv2 which
carries only PPP frames, L2TPv3 can carry raw ethernet frames or other
frame types and these do not always have an associated socket
family. Therefore, we need a way to use L2TP sessions that doesn't
require a socket type for each supported frame type. Hence netlink is
used.

James Chapman 0d76751fad l2tp: Add L2TPv3 IP encapsulation (no UDP) support
This patch adds a new L2TPIP socket family and modifies the core to
handle the case where there is no UDP header in the L2TP
packet. L2TP/IP uses IP protocol 115. Since L2TP/UDP and L2TP/IP
packets differ in layout, the datapath packet handling code needs
changes too. Userspace uses an L2TPIP socket instead of a UDP socket
when IP encapsulation is required.

We can't use raw sockets for this because the semantics of raw sockets
don't lend themselves to the socket-per-tunnel model - we need to

James Chapman e0d4435f93 l2tp: Update PPP-over-L2TP driver to work over L2TPv3
This patch makes changes to the L2TP PPP code for L2TPv3.

The existing code has some assumptions about the L2TP header which are
broken by L2TPv3. Also the sockaddr_pppol2tp structure of the original
code is too small to support the increased size of the L2TPv3 tunnel
and session id, so a new sockaddr_pppol2tpv3 structure is needed. In
the socket calls, the size of this structure is used to tell if the
operation is for L2TPv2 or L2TPv3.

James Chapman f7faffa3ff l2tp: Add L2TPv3 protocol support
The L2TPv3 protocol changes the layout of the L2TP packet
header. Tunnel and session ids change from 16-bit to 32-bit values,
data sequence numbers change from 16-bit to 24-bit values and PPP-specific
fields are moved into protocol-specific subheaders.

Although this patch introduces L2TPv3 protocol support, there are no
userspace interfaces to create L2TPv3 sessions yet.

James Chapman fd558d186d l2tp: Split pppol2tp patch into separate l2tp and ppp parts
This patch splits the pppol2tp driver into separate L2TP and PPP parts
to prepare for L2TPv3 support. In L2TPv3, protocols other than PPP can
be carried, so this split creates a common L2TP core that will handle
the common L2TP bits which protocol support modules such as PPP will
use.

Note that the existing pppol2tp module is split into l2tp_core and
l2tp_ppp by this change.

There are no feature changes here. Internally, however, there are
significant changes, mostly to handle the separation of PPP-specific
data from the L2TP session and to provide hooks in the core for
modules like PPP to access.
