Merge branch 'timers-core-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull timer updates from Thomas Gleixner: "Yet another big pile of changes: - More year 2038 work from Arnd slowly reaching the point where we need to think about the syscalls themself. - A new timer function which allows to conditionally (re)arm a timer only when it's either not running or the new expiry time is sooner than the armed expiry time. This allows to use a single timer for multiple timeout requirements w/o caring about the first expiry time at the call site. - A new NMI safe accessor to clock real time for the printk timestamp work. Can be used by tracing, perf as well if required. - A large number of timer setup conversions from Kees which got collected here because either maintainers requested so or they simply got ignored. As Kees pointed out already there are a few trivial merge conflicts and some redundant commits which was unavoidable due to the size of this conversion effort. - Avoid a redundant iteration in the timer wheel softirq processing. - Provide a mechanism to treat RTC implementations depending on their hardware properties, i.e. don't inflict the write at the 0.5 seconds boundary which originates from the PC CMOS RTC to all RTCs. No functional change as drivers need to be updated separately. - The usual small updates to core code clocksource drivers. APEI / ERST: use 64-bit timestamps
32-bit timestamps are deprecated in the kernel, so we should not use get_seconds(). In this case, the 'struct cper_record_header' structure already contains a 64-bit field, so the only required change is to use the safe ktime_get_real_seconds() interface as a replacement. ACPI / APEI: Replace ioremap_page_range() with fixmap
Replace ghes_io{re,un}map_pfn_{nmi,irq}()s use of ioremap_page_range() with __set_fixmap() as ioremap_page_range() may sleep to allocate a new level of page-table, even if its passed an existing final-address to use in the mapping. License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. ACPI / APEI: remove the unused dead-code for SEA/NMI notification type
For the SEA notification, the two functions ghes_sea_add() and ghes_sea_remove() are only called when CONFIG_ACPI_APEI_SEA is defined. If not, it will return errors in the ghes_probe() and not continue. If the probe is failed, the ghes_sea_remove() also has no chance to be called. Hence, remove the unnecessary handling when CONFIG_ACPI_APEI_SEA is not defined. For the NMI notification, it has the same issue as SEA notification, so also remove the unused dead-code for it. ACPI / APEI: clear error status before acknowledging the error
Currently we acknowledge errors before clearing the error status. This could cause a new error to be populated by firmware in-between the error acknowledgment and the error status clearing which would cause the second error's status to be cleared without being handled. So, clear the error status before acknowledging the errors. Also, make sure to acknowledge the error if the error status read fails. ACPI, APEI, EINJ: Subtract any matching Register Region from Trigger resources
ACPI defines a number of instructions to use for triggering errors. However
we are currently removing the address resources from the trigger resources
for only the WRITE_REGISTER_VALUE instruction. This leads to a resource
conflict for any other valid instruction.
Check that the instruction is less than or equal to the
WRITE_REGISTER_VALUE instruction. This allows all valid memory access
instructions and protects against invalid instructions.

ACPI: APEI: fix the wrong iteration of generic error status block
The revision 0x300 generic error data entry is different from the old version, but currently iterating through the GHES estatus blocks does not take into account this difference. This will lead to failure to get the right data entry if GHES has revision 0x300 error data entry. Update the GHES estatus iteration macro to properly increment using acpi_hest_get_next(), and correct the iteration termination condition because the status block data length only includes error data length. With this patch, the code gets routed to the APEI handling of SEAs in the host kernel to report the SEA information. The UEFI spec includes non-standard section type support in the Common Platform Error Record. This is defined in section N.2.3 of UEFI version 2.5. acpi: apei: handle SEA notification type for ARMv8
ARM APEI extension proposal added SEA (Synchronous External Abort) notification type for ARMv8. Add a new GHES error source handling function for SEA. If an error source's notification type is SEA, then this function can be registered into the SEA exception handler. That way GHES will parse and report SEA exceptions when they occur. An SEA can interrupt code that had interrupts masked and is treated as an NMI. To aid this the page of address space for mapping APEI buffers while in_nmi() is always reserved, and ghes_ioremap_pfn_nmi() is changed to use the helper methods to find the prot_t to map with in the same way as ghes_ioremap_pfn_irq(). A RAS (Reliability, Availability, Serviceability) controller may be a separate processor running in parallel with OS execution, and may generate error records for consumption by the OS. The Generic Hardware Error Source (GHES) v2 structure introduces the capability for the OS to acknowledge the consumption of the error record generated by the RAS controller. treewide: use kv[mz]alloc* rather than opencoded variants
There are many code paths opencoding kvmalloc. Let's use the helper instead. The main difference to kvmalloc is that those users are usually not considering all the aspects of the memory allocator. E.g. allocation requests <= 32kB (with 4kB pages) are basically never failing and invoke OOM killer to satisfy the allocation. This sounds too disruptive for something that has a reasonable fallback - the vmalloc. On the other hand those requests might fallback to vmalloc even when the memory allocator would succeed after several more reclaim/compaction attempts previously. There is no guarantee something like that happens though. This patch converts many of those places to kv[mz]alloc* helpers because they are more conservative. ACPI / APEI: Send correct severity to calculate AER severity
Currently the AER severity is calculated by calling cper_severity_to_aer(), but the parameter sent is actually the GHES severity. This causes the AER severity to be incorrect. Fix the parameter to be the CPER severity instead of the GHES severity. ACPI / APEI: Add Boot Error Record Table (BERT) support
ACPI/APEI is designed to verifiy/report H/W errors, like Corrected Error(CE) and Uncorrected Error(UC). It contains four tables: HEST, ERST, EINJ and BERT. The first three tables have been merged for a long time, but because of lacking BIOS support for BERT, the support for BERT is pending until now. Recently on ARM 64 platform it is has been supported. So here we come. Under normal circumstances, when a hardware error occurs, kernel will be notified via NMI, MCE or some other method, then kernel will process the error condition, report it, and recover it if possible. But sometime, the situation is so bad, so that firmware may choose to reset directly without notifying Linux kernel. Linux kernel can use the Boot Error Record Table (BERT) to get the un-notified hardware errors that occurred in a previous boot. In this patch, the error information is reported via printk. For more information about BERT, please refer to ACPI Specification version 6.0, section 18.3.1: http://www.uefi.org/sites/default/files/resources/ACPI_6.0.pdf The following log is a BERT record after system reboot because of hitting a fatal memory error: BERT: Error records from previous boot: [Hardware Error]: It has been corrected by h/w and requires no further action [Hardware Error]: event severity: corrected [Hardware Error]: Error 0, type: recoverable [Hardware Error]: section_type: memory error [Hardware Error]: error_status: 0x0000000000000400 [Hardware Error]: physical_address: 0xffffffffffffffff [Hardware Error]: card: 1 module: 2 bank: 3 row: 1 column: 2 bit_position: 5 [Hardware Error]: error_type: 2, single-bit ECC [Tomasz Nowicki: Clear error status at the end of error handling] [Tony: Applied some cleanups suggested by Fu Wei] [Fu Wei: delete EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL(bert_disable), improve the code] Signed-off-by: Huang Ying <ying.huang@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Tomasz Nowicki <tomasz.nowicki@linaro.org> Signed-off-by: Chen, Gong <gong.chen@linux.intel.com> Tested-by: Jonathan (Zhixiong) Zhang <zjzhang@codeaurora.org> Signed-off-by: Fu Wei <fu.wei@linaro.org> Tested-by: Tyler Baicar <tbaicar@codeaurora.org> Reviewed-by: Borislav Petkov <bp@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Tony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Rafael J. pstore: add lzo/lz4 compression support
Like zlib compression in pstore, this patch added lzo and lz4 compression support so that users can have more options and better compression ratio. The original code treats the compressed data together with the uncompressed ECC correction notice by using zlib decompress. The ECC correction notice is missing in the decompression process. The treatment also makes lzo and lz4 not working. So I treat them separately by using pstore_decompress() to treat the compressed data, and memcpy() to treat the uncompressed ECC correction notice.
