- percpu-rwsem rewrite that uses its own waitqueue and atomic_t

weaknesses, but the primary motivation was complications on the -rt
kernel.
- Introduce raw lock nesting detection on lockdep

lock differences. This too originates from -rt.
- Reuse lockdep zapped chain_hlocks entries, to conserve RAM
footprint on distro-ish kernels running into the "BUG:

Events are timestamped in EC time space, their timestamps need to be
converted in host time space.
The assumption is the time delta between when the interrupt is sent
by the EC and when it is receive by the host is a [small] constant.
This is not always true, even with hard-wired interrupt. To mitigate
worst offenders, add a median filter to weed out bigger than expected
delays.

I'm resubmitting this patch with review feedback addressed:
https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10584079/
The patch was previously not resubmitted because it required a change
that was reverted in the ACPICA. That has since been corrected:
9159c09a2a
We've been using this patch for a while and user reports confirm that it
works:
https://github.com/linux-surface/linux-surface
Previous description follows.
>8------------------------------------------------------8<
The MSHW0011 device is a chip that replaces the battery firmware
by using ACPI operation regions on the Surface 3.
It is unclear whether or not the chip will be reused somewhere else
(under Windows, the chip is called "Surface Platform Power Driver"
and the driver is provided by Microsoft).
The values have been obtained by reverse engineering, and are subject to
errors. Looks like it works on overall pretty well.
I couldn't manage to get the IRQ correctly triggered, so I am using a
good old polling thread to check for changes. This is something
to be fixed in a later version.

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo array[];
};
By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which
will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.
Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by
this change:
"Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator
may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of
zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1]

Add a driver to implement the Type C connector class for Chrome OS
devices with ECs (Embedded Controllers).
The driver relies on firmware device specifications for various port
attributes. On ACPI platforms, this is specified using the logical
device with HID GOOG0014. On DT platforms, this is specified using the
DT node with compatible string "google,cros-ec-typec".
The driver reads the device FW node and uses the port attributes to
register the typec ports with the Type C connector class framework, but
doesn't do much else.
Subsequent patches will add more functionality to the driver, including
obtaining current port information (polarity, vconn role, current power
role etc.) after querying the EC.

Sofar we have been unable to get permission from the vendors to put the
firmware for touchscreens listed in touchscreen_dmi in linux-firmware.
Some of the tablets with such a touchscreen have a touchscreen driver, and

Currently pmc_core_substate_res_show() uses array of char pointers
i.e., lpm_modes for Tiger Lake directly to iterate through and to get
the number of low power modes which is hardcoded and cannot be re-used
for future platforms that support sub-states. To maintain readability,
make pmc_core_substate_res_show() generic, so that it can re-used for

In practice most drivers that use the EC protocol what really care is if
the result was successful or not, hence, we introduced a
cros_ec_cmd_xfer_status() function that converts EC errors to standard
Linux error codes. On some few cases, though, we are interested on know
if the command is supported or not, and in such cases, just ignore the
error. To achieve this, return a -ENOTSUPP error when the command is not
supported.
This will allow us to finish the conversion of all users to use the
cros_ec_cmd_xfer_status() function instead of cros_ec_cmd_xfer() and
make the latest private to the protocol driver, so users of the protocol
are not confused in which function they should use.

In a recent change to the SPI subsystem [1], a new `delay` struct was added
to replace the `delay_usecs`. This change replaces the current
`delay_usecs` with `delay` for this driver.
The `spi_transfer_delay_exec()` function [in the SPI framework] makes sure
that both `delay_usecs` & `delay` are used (in this order to preserve
backwards compatibility).

Host event can be sent by remoteproc by any time, and
cros_ec_rpmsg_callback would be called after cros_ec_rpmsg_create_ept.
But the cros_ec_device is initialized after that, which cause host event
handler to use cros_ec_device that are not initialized properly yet.
Fix this by don't schedule host event handler before cros_ec_register
returns. Instead, remember that we have a pending host event, and
schedule host event handler after cros_ec_register.

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo array[];
};

There is a possible race condition when:
All CPUs in a package is offlined and just before the last CPU offline,
user tries to read sysfs entry and read happens while offline callback
is about to delete the sysfs entry.
Although not reproduced but this is possible scenerio and can be
reproduced by adding a msleep() in the show_min_max_freq_khz() before
mutex_lock() and read min_freq attribute from user space. Before
msleep() finishes, force every CPUs in a package offline.
This will cause deadlock, with offline and sysfs read/write operation
because of mutex_lock. The uncore_remove_die_entry() will not release
mutex till read/write callback returns because of kobject_put() and
read/write callback waiting on mutex.
We don't have to remove the sysfs folder when the package is offline.
While there is no CPU present, we can fail the read/write calls by
returning ENXIO error. So remove the kobject_put() call in offline path.
This also address the warning from static checker, as there is no
access to "data" variable after kobject_put:
"The patch 49a474c7ba51: "platform/x86: Add support for Uncore

RO and RW of EC may have different EC protocol version. If EC transitions
between RO and RW, but AP does not reboot (this is true for fingerprint
microcontroller / cros_fp, but not true for main ec / cros_ec), the AP
still uses the protocol version queried before transition, which can
cause problems. In the case of fingerprint microcontroller, this causes
AP to send the wrong version of EC_CMD_GET_NEXT_EVENT to RO in the
interrupt handler, which in turn prevents RO to clear the interrupt
line to AP, in an infinite loop.
Once an EC_HOST_EVENT_INTERFACE_READY is received, we know that there
might have been a transition between RO and RW, so re-query the protocol.

ChromiumOS uses ACPI device with HID "GOOG0003" for power delivery
related events. The existing cros-usbpd-charger driver relies on these
events without ever actually receiving them on ACPI platforms. This is
because in the ChromeOS kernel trees, the GOOG0003 device is owned by an
ACPI driver that offers firmware updates to USB-C chargers.
Introduce a new platform driver under cros-ec, the ChromeOS embedded
controller, that handles these PD events and dispatches them
appropriately over a notifier chain to all drivers that use them.
On platforms that don't have the ACPI device defined, the driver gets
instantiated for ECs which support the EC_FEATURE_USB_PD feature bit,
and the notification events will get delivered using the MKBP event
handling mechanism.

The 'cros_ec' core driver is the common interface for the cros_ec
transport drivers to do the shared operations to register, unregister,
suspend, resume and handle_event. The interface is provided by including
the header 'include/linux/platform_data/cros_ec_proto.h', however, instead
of have the implementation of these functions in cros_ec_proto.c, it is in
'cros_ec.c', which is a different kernel module. Apart from being a bad
practice, this can induce confusions allowing the users of the cros_ec
protocol to call these functions.
The register, unregister, suspend, resume and handle_event functions
*should* only be called by the different transport drivers (i2c, spi, lpc,
etc.), so make this a bit less confusing by moving these functions from
the public in-kernel space to a private include in platform/chrome, and
then, the interface for cros_ec module and for the cros_ec_proto module is
clean.

This switches the intel_menlow driver to use deci_kelvin_to_celsius()
and celsius_to_deci_kelvin() in <linux/units.h> instead of helpers in
<linux/thermal.h>.
This is preparation for centralizing the kelvin to/from Celsius
conversion helpers in <linux/units.h>.
This also removes a trailing space, while we're at it.

The asus-wmi driver doesn't implement the thermal device functionality
directly, so including <linux/thermal.h> just for
DECI_KELVIN_TO_CELSIUS() is a bit odd.
This switches the asus-wmi driver to use deci_kelvin_to_millicelsius()
in <linux/units.h>.
The format string is changed from %d to %ld due to function returned
type.

1. Call the new global pin_user_pages_fast(), from
pin_goldfish_pages().
2. As required by pin_user_pages(), release these pages via
put_user_page(). In this case, do so via put_user_pages_dirty_lock().
That has the side effect of calling set_page_dirty_lock(), instead of
set_page_dirty(). This is probably more accurate.
As Christoph Hellwig put it, "set_page_dirty() is only safe if we are
dealing with a file backed page where we have reference on the inode it
hangs off." [1]
Another side effect is that the release code is simplified because the
page[] loop is now in gup.c instead of here, so just delete the local
release_user_pages() entirely, and call put_user_pages_dirty_lock()
directly, instead.

Add new attributes for "next-generation" type systems:
- Reset cause indication, when system reset has been caused by the
platform reset request through CPLD, by AC power failure,
by software power off request through CPLD. by signal asserted by SOC
through ACPI register. It introduces more reset causes, which can
be monitored after the reboots.
- Setting and removing system VPD (EEPROM) hardware write protection.
It allows to access VPD during production cycle and prevents VPD
corruption on system in field.
- Voltage regulator devices configuration update status and version. It
allows to monitor configuration update status and current active
version for such sort of devices.
- PCIe ASIC reset disable - when set ASIC will go down upon PCIe
root complex reset, otherwise ASIC will stay up during PCIe root
complex reset.
- System configuration Ids to provide system static topology
identification, like system's static I2C topology, number and type of
FPGA devices within the system and so on.

Some server users set limits on the uncore frequency using MSR 620H, while
running latency sensitive workloads. Here uncore frequency controls
RING/LLC(last-level cache) clocks.
But MSR control is not always possible from the user space, so this driver
provides a sysfs interface to set max and min frequency limits. This MSR
620H is a die scoped in multi-die system or package scoped in non multi-die
systems.
When this driver is loaded, a new directory is created under
/sys/devices/system/cpu.
For example on a two package Skylake server:
$cd /sys/devices/system/cpu/intel_uncore_frequency
$ls
package_00_die_00 package_01_die_00
$ls package_00_die_00
max_freq_khz min_freq_khz initial_max_freq_khz
initial_min_freq_khz
$grep . *
max_freq_khz:2400000
min_freq_khz:1200000
initial_max_freq_khz:2400000
initial_min_freq_khz:1200000
Here, initial_max_freq_khz and initial_min_freq_khz are read only
attributes to show power up or initial values of max and min frequencies
respectively. Other attributes are read-write, so that users can modify.

Use our default values when wrong module-parameters are given, instead of

at it until reboot [1]. Set throttle thermal policy to default
to avoid overheating and throttlig.

Throttle thermal policy ACPI device is used to control CPU cooling and
throttling. This patch adds sysfs entry for setting current mode and
Fn+F5 hotkey that switches to next.

1. Put on one line PROPERTY_ENTRY_STRING("firmware-name", ...) lines. In most
cases this doesn't over the limit, the rest is pretty much obvious from
reading point of view.
2. Put on one line DMI_MATCH() parameters, we already have over the limit lines.
3. Reduce indentation of function parameters.

Allow the user to configure the fan to turn on / speed-up at lower
thresholds then before (20 degrees Celcius as minimum instead of 40) and
likewise also allow the user to delay the fan speeding-up till the
temperature hits 90 degrees Celcius (was 70).

Use our default values when wrong module-parameters are given, instead of
refusing to load. Refusing to load leaves the fan at the BIOS default
setting, which is "Off". The CPU's thermal throttling should protect the
system from damage, but not-loading is really not the best fallback in this
case.
This commit fixes this by re-setting module-parameter values to their
defaults if they are out of range, instead of failing the probe with
-EINVAL.

This header file now only includes the cros_ec_dev struct, however, is the
'include/linux/platform_data/cros_ec_proto.h' who contains the definition of
all the Chrome OS EC related structs. There is no reason to have a
separate include for this struct so move to the place where other
structs are defined. That way, we can remove the include itself, but also
simplify the common pattern
#include <linux/mfd/cros_ec.h>
#include <linux/platform_data/cros_ec_proto.h>
for a single include
#include <linux/platform_data/cros_ec_proto.h>

The current implementation of intel_pmc_core driver allows to reuse, but does
not reflect the exact number and names of IPs for a newer platform which
does not necessarily support all the IPs in the entries. The names and
number of these IPs might differ from its previous platforms. The number
of PCH IPs per platform is calculated based on PPFEAR_NUM_ENTRIES
defined, where each entry represents a bucket (8 bits). The platform can
support 'n' entries, but not necessarily all 'n * 8' IPs.
Create platform dependent bitmap structures to specify the exact number,
names of IPs while reusing the existing IPs.
The changes in this patch are preparatory to accommodate future SoCs
that might reuse the CNL/ICL PCH IPs, and to reflect the exact number of
IPs with its names.

It is common practice to place a comma after the last entry in an
initialized array to avoid the need to add one in future patches that
extend the array. But when the last element is a termination marker, the
comma could be harmful. Any new entries must be added before the
terminator (and the comma would prevent the compiler from issuing a
warning about an entry after the terminator).

This is caused by dereferencing 'dev_data' after put_device() in
the telem_device_remove() function.
This patch just moves the put_device() down a bit to avoid this
issue.

As part of the cleanup of some remaining y2038 issues, I came to
fs/compat_ioctl.c, which still has a couple of commands that need support
for time64_t.
In completely unrelated work, I spent time on cleaning up parts of this
file in the past, moving things out into drivers instead.
After Al Viro reviewed an earlier version of this series and did a lot
more of that cleanup, I decided to try to completely eliminate the rest
of it and move it all into drivers.
This series incorporates some of Al's work and many patches of my own,
but in the end stops short of actually removing the last part, which is
the scsi ioctl handlers. I have patches for those as well, but they need
more testing or possibly a rewrite.

There have been some significant changes in the core side, both for
ALSA and ASoC, while lots of development have been seen in SOF, as
well as many small fixes/improvements for ASoC codecs and platforms.
Below is a highlight in this cycle:
Core:
- The unification of PCM vmalloc buffer allocation helpers into the
standard API
- Clean up of the default PCM mmap handling for vmalloc & SG-buffer
- Fix potential races at ALSA timer open
- A few new PCM API extensions; just preliminary core changes, the
actual changes in drivers will be merged in 5.6
- Continued ASoC componentization works; now almost everything is a
common ASoC component object. A lot of refactoring and
simplification have been done along with it.
ASoC:
- Many fixes to the Sound Open Firmware (SOF) code
- Wake on voice support for Chromebooks
- SPI support and trigger word detection for RT5677
- New drivers for Analog Devices ADAU7118, Intel Cannonlake systems
with RT1011 and RT5682, Texas Instruments TAS2562 and TAS2770
HD-audio:
- Improved Intel DSP configuration / probe code for SOF
- Plumbing the legacy HD-audio driver with Intel SOF HDMI
- DP-MST support for Nvidia HDMI codecs
- Realtek quirks cleanups and new additions as usual
Others:
- Lots of refactoring and cleanups for FireWire; period-size sharing,
h/w IRQ interval configuration, clock recovery improvements, etc
- USB-audio: Scarlett mixer quirks
- Cleanups of PCM calls in various drivers (including media and USB)
to adapt the core API changes

allowing Loongson LL/SC errata workarounds to be more bulletproof &
their correctness to be checked at build time.
- Command line setup code is simplified somewhat, resolving various
corner cases.
- MIPS kernels can now be built with kcov code coverage support.
- We can now build with CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE=y.
- Miscellaneous cleanups.
And some platform specific changes:
- We now disable some broken TLB functionality on certain Ingenic
systems, and JZ4780 systems gain some devicetree nodes to support
more devices.
- Loongson support sees a number of cleanups, and we gain initial
support for Loongson 3A R4 systems.
- We gain support for MediaTek MT7688-based GARDENA Smart Gateway
systems.
- SGI IP27 (Origin 2*) see a number of fixes, cleanups &
simplifications.
- SGI IP30 (Octane) systems are now supported"

The AML code implementing the WMI methods creates a variable length
field to hold the input data we pass like this:
CreateDWordField (Arg1, 0x0C, DSZI)
Local5 = DSZI /* \HWMC.DSZI */
CreateField (Arg1, 0x80, (Local5 * 0x08), DAIN)
If we pass 0 as bios_args.datasize argument then (Local5 * 0x08)
is 0 which results in these errors:
[ 71.973305] ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Attempt to CreateField of length zero (20190816/dsopcode-133)
[ 71.973332] ACPI Error: Aborting method \HWMC due to previous error (AE_AML_OPERAND_VALUE) (20190816/psparse-529)
[ 71.973413] ACPI Error: Aborting method \_SB.WMID.WMAA due to previous error (AE_AML_OPERAND_VALUE) (20190816/psparse-529)
And in our HPWMI_WIRELESS2_QUERY calls always failing. for read commands
like HPWMI_WIRELESS2_QUERY the DSZI value is not used / checked, except for
read commands where extra input is needed to specify exactly what to read.
So for HPWMI_WIRELESS2_QUERY we can safely pass the size of the expected
output as insize to hp_wmi_perform_query(), as we are already doing for all
other HPWMI_READ commands we send. Doing so fixes these errors.

The HP WMI calls may take up to 128 bytes of data as input, and
the AML methods implementing the WMI calls, declare a couple of fields for
accessing input in different sizes, specifycally the HWMC method contains:
CreateField (Arg1, 0x80, 0x0400, D128)
Even though we do not use any of the WMI command-types which need a buffer
of this size, the APCI interpreter still tries to create it as it is
declared in generoc code at the top of the HWMC method which runs before
the code looks at which command-type is requested.
This results in many of these errors on many different HP laptop models:
[ 14.459261] ACPI Error: Field [D128] at 1152 exceeds Buffer [NULL] size 160 (bits) (20170303/dsopcode-236)
[ 14.459268] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\HWMC] (Node ffff8edcc61507f8), AE_AML_BUFFER_LIMIT (20170303/psparse-543)
[ 14.459279] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB.WMID.WMAA] (Node ffff8edcc61523c0), AE_AML_BUFFER_LIMIT (20170303/psparse-543)
This commit increases the size of the data element of the bios_args struct
to 128 bytes fixing these errors.

The ChromeOS EC has support for signaling to the host that a single IRQ
can serve multiple MKBP (Matrix KeyBoard Protocol) events.
Doing this serves an optimization purpose, as it minimizes the number of
round-trips into the interrupt handling machinery, and it proves
beneficial to sensor timestamping as it keeps the desired synchronization
of event times between the two processors.
This patch adds kernel support for this EC feature, allowing the ec_irq
to loop until all events have been served.

We need to convert all old gpio irqchips to pass the irqchip
setup along when adding the gpio_chip. For more info see
drivers/gpio/TODO.
For chained irqchips this is a pretty straight-forward
conversion. This driver requests the IRQ directly in the driver
so it needs to pass a NULL parent handler. We may revisit this
code later and pull reqular shared IRQ handler into
gpiolib, so leave a FIXME.

The .ioctl and .compat_ioctl file operations have the same prototype so
they can both point to the same function, which works great almost all
the time when all the commands are compatible.
One exception is the s390 architecture, where a compat pointer is only
31 bit wide, and converting it into a 64-bit pointer requires calling
compat_ptr(). Most drivers here will never run in s390, but since we now
have a generic helper for it, it's easy enough to use it consistently.
I double-checked all these drivers to ensure that all ioctl arguments
are used as pointers or are ignored, but are not interpreted as integer
values.

This commit adds the bootctl platform driver for Mellanox BlueField
Soc, which queries secure state and controls the eMMC boot partition
swapping by sending SMC calls to ATF running at EL3.
Below are the sequences of typical use case.
1. User requests boot partition swapping, which could be on-demand or
during boot-image upgrade via UEFI capsule;
2. This bootctl driver handles the request and sends SMC call
to ATF. ATF programs register BREADCRUMB0 which has value
preserved during warm reset. It also programs eMMC to swap
the boot partition;
3. After software reset (rebooting), ATF BL1 (BootRom) checks
register BREADCRUMB0 and enable watchdog if configured;
4. If booting fails, the watchdog timer will trigger rebooting.
In such case, ATF Boot ROM will switch the boot partition
back to the previous one. This is a robust feature and used

Existing intel_cht_int33fe ACPI pseudo-device driver assumes that
hardware has Type-C connector and register related devices described as
I2C connections in the _CRS resource.
There is at least one hardware (Lenovo Yoga Book YB1-91L/F) with Micro-B
USB connector exists. It has INT33FE device in the DSDT table but
there are only two I2C connection described: PMIC and BQ27452 battery
fuel gauge.
Splitting existing INT33FE driver allow to maintain code for USB Micro-B
(or AB) connector variant separately and make it simpler.
Split driver to intel_cht_int33fe_common.c and
intel_cht_int33fe_{microb,typec}.c. Compile all this sources to one .ko
module to make user experience easier.

We have added polled mode to the normal input devices with the intent of
retiring input_polled_dev. This converts peaq-wmi driver to use the
polling mode of standard input devices and removes dependency on
INPUT_POLLDEV.
Because the new polling coded does not allow peeking inside the poller
structure to get the poll interval, we change the "debounce" process to
operate on the time basis, instead of counting events.
We also fix error handling during initialization, as previously we leaked
input device structure when we failed to register it.

This patch adds a quirk disabling keyboard backlight support for the
Dell Inspiron 1012 and 1018.
Those models wrongly report supporting keyboard backlight control
features (through SMBIOS tokens) even though they're not equipped with
a backlit keyboard. This led to broken controls being exposed
through sysfs by this driver which froze the system when used.

Introduce quirks and module parameters. 3 quirks are added:
1. Fixes reporting brightness keys twice since it's already handled by
acpi-video.
2. Some models need a short delay when setting battery thresholds to
prevent a race condition when two processes read/write. (will be used later)
3. Matebook X (2017) handles micmute led through the "legacy" interface
which is not currently implemented. Use ACPI EC method to control
this led. (will be used later)
2 module parameters are added to enable this short delay and/or report
brightness keys through this driver.

Move from WMI driver to platform driver. This move is necessary since
the driver is no longer a hotkeys driver only. Platform driver makes it
easier for users to access sysfs attributes under (i.e.
/sys/devices/platform/huawei-wmi) compared to wmi driver.
Use WMI device UID, AMW0 has a UID of HWMI. WMI0 is the device name
and doesn't have a UID so keep it as it is.

For APIC case of interrupt we don't fail a ->probe() of the driver,
which makes kernel to print a lot of warnings from the children.
We have two options here:
- switch to platform_get_irq_optional(), though it won't stop children
to be probed and failed
- fail the ->probe() of i2c-multi-instantiate
Since the in reality we never had devices in the wild where IRQ resource
is optional, the latter solution suits the best.
