Masahiro Yamada 28949b84b2 samples: vfs: build sample programs for target architecture
These userspace programs include UAPI headers exported to usr/include/.
'make headers' always works for the target architecture (i.e. the same
architecture as the kernel), so the sample programs should be built for
the target as well. Kbuild now supports 'userprogs' for that.

I also guarded the CONFIG option by 'depends on CC_CAN_LINK' because
$(CC) may not provide libc.

Lorenzo Bianconi 6a09815428 samples/bpf: xdp_redirect_cpu: Set MAX_CPUS according to NR_CPUS
xdp_redirect_cpu is currently failing in bpf_prog_load_xattr()
allocating cpu_map map if CONFIG_NR_CPUS is less than 64 since
cpu_map_alloc() requires max_entries to be less than NR_CPUS.
Set cpu_map max_entries according to NR_CPUS in xdp_redirect_cpu_kern.c
and get currently running cpus in xdp_redirect_cpu_user.c

Matteo Croce 23ad04669f samples: bpf: Fix build error
GCC 10 is very strict about symbol clash, and lwt_len_hist_user contains
a symbol which clashes with libbpf:

Miklos Szeredi 581701b7ef uapi: deprecate STATX_ALL
Constants of the *_ALL type can be actively harmful due to the fact that
developers will usually fail to consider the possible effects of future
changes to the definition.

Deprecate STATX_ALL in the uapi, while no damage has been done yet.

We could keep something like this around in the kernel, but there's
actually no point, since all filesystems should be explicitly checking
flags that they support and not rely on the VFS masking unknown ones out: a
flag could be known to the VFS, yet not known to the filesystem.

Arnd Bergmann c624adc9cb samples: fix binderfs sample
A routine check for misspelled Kconfig symbols showed on instance
from last year, the correct symbol name is CONFIG_ANDROID_BINDERFS,
not CONFIG_CONFIG_ANDROID_BINDERFS, so the extra prefix must
be removed in the Kconfig file to allow enabling the sample.

As the actual sample fails to build as a kernel module, change the
Makefile enough to get to build as a hostprog instead.

Jann Horn bdebd6a283 vmalloc: fix remap_vmalloc_range() bounds checks
remap_vmalloc_range() has had various issues with the bounds checks it
promises to perform ("This function checks that addr is a valid
vmalloc'ed area, and that it is big enough to cover the vma") over time,
e.g.:

 - not detecting pgoff<<PAGE_SHIFT overflow

 - not detecting (pgoff<<PAGE_SHIFT)+usize overflow

 - not checking whether addr and addr+(pgoff<<PAGE_SHIFT) are the same
   vmalloc allocation

 - comparing a potentially wildly out-of-bounds pointer with the end of
   the vmalloc region

In particular, since commit fc9702273e ("bpf: Add mmap() support for
BPF_MAP_TYPE_ARRAY"), unprivileged users can cause kernel null pointer
dereferences by calling mmap() on a BPF map with a size that is bigger
than the distance from the start of the BPF map to the end of the
address space.

This could theoretically be used as a kernel ASLR bypass, by using
whether mmap() with a given offset oopses or returns an error code to
perform a binary search over the possible address range.

To allow remap_vmalloc_range_partial() to verify that addr and
addr+(pgoff<<PAGE_SHIFT) are in the same vmalloc region, pass the offset
to remap_vmalloc_range_partial() instead of adding it to the pointer in
remap_vmalloc_range().

In remap_vmalloc_range_partial(), fix the check against
get_vm_area_size() by using size comparisons instead of pointer
comparisons, and add checks for pgoff.

Will Deacon d8a84d33a4 samples/hw_breakpoint: drop use of kallsyms_lookup_name()
The 'data_breakpoint' test code is the only modular user of
kallsyms_lookup_name(), which was exported as part of fixing the test in
f60d24d2ad ("hw-breakpoints: Fix broken hw-breakpoint sample module").

In preparation for un-exporting this symbol, switch the test over to using
__symbol_get(), which can be used to place breakpoints on exported
symbols.

Will Deacon 4800314e19 samples/hw_breakpoint: drop HW_BREAKPOINT_R when reporting writes
Patch series "Unexport kallsyms_lookup_name() and kallsyms_on_each_symbol()".

Despite having just a single modular in-tree user that I could spot,
kallsyms_lookup_name() is exported to modules and provides a mechanism
for out-of-tree modules to access and invoke arbitrary, non-exported
kernel symbols when kallsyms is enabled.

This patch series fixes up that one user and unexports the symbol along
with kallsyms_on_each_symbol(), since that could also be abused in a
similar manner.

I would like to avoid out-of-tree modules being easily able to call
functions that are not exported.  kallsyms_lookup_name() makes this
trivial to the point that there is very little incentive to rework these
modules to either use upstream interfaces correctly or propose
functionality which may be otherwise missing upstream.  Both of these
latter solutions would be pre-requisites to upstreaming these modules, and
the current state of things actively discourages that approach.

The background here is that we are aiming for Android devices to be able
to use a generic binary kernel image closely following upstream, with any
vendor extensions coming in as kernel modules.  In this case, we (Google)
end up maintaining the binary module ABI within the scope of a single LTS
kernel.  Monitoring and managing the ABI surface is not feasible if it
effectively includes all data and functions via kallsyms_lookup_name().
Of course, we could just carry this patch in the Android kernel tree, but
we're aiming to carry as little as possible (ideally nothing) and I think
it's a sensible change in its own right.  I'm surprised you object to it,
in all honesty.

Now, you could turn around and say "that's not upstream's problem", but it
still seems highly undesirable to me to have an upstream bypass for
exported symbols that isn't even used by upstream modules.  It's ripe for
abuse and encourages people to work outside of the upstream tree.  The
usual rule is that we don't export symbols without a user in the tree and
that seems especially relevant in this case.

Given the name of a kernel symbol, the 'data_breakpoint' test claims to
"report any write operations on the kernel symbol".  However, it creates
the breakpoint using both HW_BREAKPOINT_W and HW_BREAKPOINT_R, which menas
it also fires for read access.

Drop HW_BREAKPOINT_R from the breakpoint attributes.

Daniel T. Lee aa5e2af660 samples, bpf: Refactor perf_event user program with libbpf bpf_link
The bpf_program__attach of libbpf(using bpf_link) is much more intuitive
than the previous method using ioctl.

bpf_program__attach_perf_event manages the enable of perf_event and
attach of BPF programs to it, so there's no neeed to do this
directly with ioctl.

In addition, bpf_link provides consistency in the use of API because it
allows disable (detach, destroy) for multiple events to be treated as
one bpf_link__destroy. Also, bpf_link__destroy manages the close() of
perf_event fd.

This commit refactors samples that attach the bpf program to perf_event
by using libbbpf instead of ioctl. Also the bpf_load in the samples were
removed and migrated to use libbbpf API.

Maciej Fijalkowski 8ed47e1408 samples: bpf: Allow for -ENETDOWN in xdpsock
ndo_xsk_wakeup() can return -ENETDOWN and there's no particular reason
to bail the whole application out on that case. Let's check in kick_tx()
whether errno was set to mentioned value and basically allow application

Masahiro Yamada 5f2fb52fac kbuild: rename hostprogs-y/always to hostprogs/always-y
In old days, the "host-progs" syntax was used for specifying host
programs. It was renamed to the current "hostprogs-y" in 2004.

It is typically useful in scripts/Makefile because it allows Kbuild to
selectively compile host programs based on the kernel configuration.

This commit renames like follows:

  always       ->  always-y
  hostprogs-y  ->  hostprogs

So, scripts/Makefile will look like this:

  always-$(CONFIG_BUILD_BIN2C) += ...
  always-$(CONFIG_KALLSYMS)    += ...
      ...
  hostprogs := $(always-y) $(always-m)

I think this makes more sense because a host program is always a host
program, irrespective of the kernel configuration. We want to specify
which ones to compile by CONFIG options, so always-y will be handier.

The "always", "hostprogs-y", "hostprogs-m" will be kept for backward
compatibility for a while.

Toke Høiland-Jørgensen 7cf245a37e samples/bpf: Use consistent include paths for libbpf
Fix all files in samples/bpf to include libbpf header files with the bpf/
prefix, to be consistent with external users of the library. Also ensure
that all includes of exported libbpf header files (those that are exported
on 'make install' of the library) use bracketed includes instead of quoted.

To make sure no new files are introduced that doesn't include the bpf/
prefix in its include, remove tools/lib/bpf from the include path entirely,
and use tools/lib instead.

Toke Høiland-Jørgensen b2e5e93ae8 samples/bpf: Don't try to remove user's homedir on clean
The 'clean' rule in the samples/bpf Makefile tries to remove backup
files (ending in ~). However, if no such files exist, it will instead try
to remove the user's home directory. While the attempt is mostly harmless,
it does lead to a somewhat scary warning like this:

rm: cannot remove '~': Is a directory

Fix this by using find instead of shell expansion to locate any actual
backup files that need to be removed.

Petr Mladek be6da98425 livepatch/samples/selftest: Use klp_shadow_alloc() API correctly
The commit e91c2518a5 ("livepatch: Initialize shadow variables
safely by a custom callback") leads to the following static checker
warning:

  samples/livepatch/livepatch-shadow-fix1.c:86 livepatch_fix1_dummy_alloc()
  error: 'klp_shadow_alloc()' 'leak' too small (4 vs 8)

It is because klp_shadow_alloc() is used a wrong way:

  shadow_leak = klp_shadow_alloc(d, SV_LEAK, sizeof(leak), GFP_KERNEL,
				 shadow_leak_ctor, leak);

The code is supposed to store the "leak" pointer into the shadow variable.
3rd parameter correctly passes size of the data (size of pointer). But
the 5th parameter is wrong. It should pass pointer to the data (pointer
to the pointer) but it passes the pointer directly.

It works because shadow_leak_ctor() handle "ctor_data" as the data
instead of pointer to the data. But it is semantically wrong and
confusing.

The same problem is also in the module used by selftests. In this case,
"pvX" variables are introduced. They represent the data stored in
the shadow variables.

Jesper Dangaard Brouer 58aa94f922 devmap: Adjust tracepoint for map-less queue flush
Now that we don't have a reference to a devmap when flushing the device
bulk queue, let's change the the devmap_xmit tracepoint to remote the
map_id and map_index fields entirely. Rearrange the fields so 'drops' and
'sent' stay in the same position in the tracepoint struct, to make it
possible for the xdp_monitor utility to read both the old and the new
format.

Sargun Dhillon 771b894f2f samples/seccomp: Zero out members based on seccomp_notif_sizes
The sizes by which seccomp_notif and seccomp_notif_resp are allocated are
based on the SECCOMP_GET_NOTIF_SIZES ioctl. This allows for graceful
extension of these datastructures. If userspace zeroes out the
datastructure based on its version, and it is lagging behind the kernel's
version, it will end up sending trailing garbage. On the other hand,
if it is ahead of the kernel version, it will write extra zero space,
and potentially cause corruption.

Sven Schnelle 01f36a554e samples/trace_printk: Wait for IRQ work to finish
trace_printk schedules work via irq_work_queue(), but doesn't
wait until it was processed. The kprobe_module.tc testcase does:

Jesper Dangaard Brouer f9e6bfdbaf samples/bpf: Xdp_redirect_cpu fix missing tracepoint attach
When sample xdp_redirect_cpu was converted to use libbpf, the
tracepoints used by this sample were not getting attached automatically
like with bpf_load.c. The BPF-maps was still getting loaded, thus
nobody notice that the tracepoints were not updating these maps.

This fix doesn't use the new skeleton code, as this bug was introduced
in v5.1 and stable might want to backport this. E.g. Red Hat QA uses
this sample as part of their testing.

The UDP payload fill pattern can be specified using '-P' or '--tx-pkt-pattern'
option. It is an unsigned 32 bit field and defaulted to 0x12345678.

The IP and UDP checksum is calculated by the code as per the content of
the packet before transmission.

New option '-s' or '--tx-pkt-size' has been added to specify the transmit
packet size. The packet size ranges from 47 to 4096 bytes. When this
option is not provided, it defaults to 64 byte packet.

The code uses struct ethhdr, struct iphdr and struct udphdr to form the
transmit packet. The MAC address, IP address and UDP ports are set to default
values.

The code calculates IP and UDP checksums before sending the packet.
Checksum calculation code in Linux kernel is used for this purpose.
The Ethernet FCS is not filled by the code.

Toke Høiland-Jørgensen d50ecc46d1 samples/bpf: Attach XDP programs in driver mode by default
When attaching XDP programs, userspace can set flags to request the attach
mode (generic/SKB mode, driver mode or hw offloaded mode). If no such flags
are requested, the kernel will attempt to attach in driver mode, and then
silently fall back to SKB mode if this fails.

The silent fallback is a major source of user confusion, as users will try
to load a program on a device without XDP support, and instead of an error
they will get the silent fallback behaviour, not notice, and then wonder
why performance is not what they were expecting.

In an attempt to combat this, let's switch all the samples to default to
explicitly requesting driver-mode attach. As part of this, ensure that all
the userspace utilities have a switch to enable SKB mode. For those that
have a switch to request driver mode, keep it but turn it into a no-op.

Toke Høiland-Jørgensen 450278977a samples/bpf: Set -fno-stack-protector when building BPF programs
It seems Clang can in some cases turn on stack protection by default, which
doesn't work with BPF. This was reported once before[0], but it seems the
flag to explicitly turn off the stack protector wasn't added to the
Makefile, so do that now.

The symptom of this is compile errors like the following:

Currently, open() is called from the user program and it calls the syscall
'sys_openat', not the 'sys_open'. This leads to an error of the program
of user side, due to the fact that the counter maps are zero since no
function such 'sys_open' is called.

Jesper Dangaard Brouer edbca120a8 samples/bpf: Fix broken xdp_rxq_info due to map order assumptions
In the days of using bpf_load.c the order in which the 'maps' sections
were defines in BPF side (*_kern.c) file, were used by userspace side
to identify the map via using the map order as an index. In effect the
order-index is created based on the order the maps sections are stored
in the ELF-object file, by the LLVM compiler.

This have also carried over in libbpf via API bpf_map__next(NULL, obj)
to extract maps in the order libbpf parsed the ELF-object file.

When BTF based maps were introduced a new section type ".maps" were
created. I found that the LLVM compiler doesn't create the ".maps"
sections in the order they are defined in the C-file. The order in the
ELF file is based on the order the map pointer is referenced in the code.

This combination of changes lead to xdp_rxq_info mixing up the map
file-descriptors in userspace, resulting in very broken behaviour, but
without warning the user.

This patch fix issue by instead using bpf_object__find_map_by_name()
to find maps via their names. (Note, this is the ELF name, which can
be longer than the name the kernel retains).

Add another module sample that registers a direct trampoline to a function
via register_ftrace_direct(). Having another module that does this allows to
test the use case of multiple direct callers registered, as more than one

Add support for the XDP_SHARED_UMEM mode to the xdpsock sample
application. As libbpf does not have a built in XDP program for this
mode, we use an explicitly loaded XDP program. This also serves as an
example on how to write your own XDP program that can route to an
AF_XDP socket.

Daniel T. Lee 451d1dc886 samples: bpf: update map definition to new syntax BTF-defined map
Since, the new syntax of BTF-defined map has been introduced,
the syntax for using maps under samples directory are mixed up.
For example, some are already using the new syntax, and some are using
existing syntax by calling them as 'legacy'.

As stated at commit abd29c9314 ("libbpf: allow specifying map
definitions using BTF"), the BTF-defined map has more compatablility
with extending supported map definition features.

The commit doesn't replace all of the map to new BTF-defined map,
because some of the samples still use bpf_load instead of libbpf, which
can't properly create BTF-defined map.

This will only updates the samples which uses libbpf API for loading bpf
program. (ex. bpf_prog_load_xattr)

Daniel T. Lee afbe3c27d9 samples: bpf: Update outdated error message
Currently, under samples, several methods are being used to load bpf
program.

Since using libbpf is preferred solution, lots of previously used
'load_bpf_file' from bpf_load are replaced with 'bpf_prog_load_xattr'
from libbpf.

But some of the error messages still show up as 'load_bpf_file' instead
of 'bpf_prog_load_xattr'.

This commit fixes outdated errror messages under samples and fixes some
code style issues.

Sysroot contains correct libs installed and its headers. Useful when

Ivan Khoronzhuk 10cb3d8706 samples/bpf: Use own flags but not HOSTCFLAGS
While compiling natively, the host's cflags and ldflags are equal to
ones used from HOSTCFLAGS and HOSTLDFLAGS. When cross compiling it
should have own, used for target arch. While verification, for arm,
arm64 and x86_64 the following flags were used always:

-Wall -O2
-fomit-frame-pointer
-Wmissing-prototypes
-Wstrict-prototypes

So, add them as they were verified and used before adding
Makefile.target and lets omit "-fomit-frame-pointer" as were proposed
while review, as no sense in such optimization for samples.

Ivan Khoronzhuk 1d97c6c251 samples/bpf: Base target programs rules on Makefile.target
The main reason for that - HOSTCC and CC have different aims.
HOSTCC is used to build programs running on host, that can
cross-comple target programs with CC. It was tested for arm and arm64
cross compilation, based on linaro toolchain, but should work for
others.

So, in order to split cross compilation (CC) with host build (HOSTCC),
lets base samples on Makefile.target. It allows to cross-compile
samples/bpf programs with CC while auxialry tools running on host
built with HOSTCC.

Ivan Khoronzhuk 752677e89f samples/bpf: Add makefile.target for separate CC target build
The Makefile.target is added only and will be used in
sample/bpf/Makefile later in order to switch cross-compiling to CC
from HOSTCC environment.

The HOSTCC is supposed to build binaries and tools running on the host
afterwards, in order to simplify build or so, like "fixdep" or else.
In case of cross compiling "fixdep" is executed on host when the rest
samples should run on target arch. In order to build binaries for
target arch with CC and tools running on host with HOSTCC, lets add
Makefile.target for simplicity, having definition and routines similar
to ones, used in script/Makefile.host. This allows later add
cross-compilation to samples/bpf with minimum changes.

The tprog stands for target programs built with CC.

Makefile.target contains only stuff needed for samples/bpf, potentially
can be reused later and now needed only for unblocking tricky
samples/bpf cross compilation.

Ivan Khoronzhuk 0e865aedad samples/bpf: Use __LINUX_ARM_ARCH__ selector for arm
For arm, -D__LINUX_ARM_ARCH__=X is min version used as instruction
set selector and is absolutely required while parsing some parts of
headers. It's present in KBUILD_CFLAGS but not in autoconf.h, so let's
retrieve it from and add to programs cflags. In another case errors
like "SMP is not supported" for armv7 and bunch of other errors are
issued resulting to incorrect final object.

Ivan Khoronzhuk 39e0c3649f samples/bpf: Fix cookie_uid_helper_example obj build
Don't list userspace "cookie_uid_helper_example" object in list for
bpf objects.

'always' target is used for listing bpf programs, but
'cookie_uid_helper_example.o' is a user space ELF file, and covered
by rule `per_socket_stats_example`, so shouldn't be in 'always'.
Let us remove `always += cookie_uid_helper_example.o`, which avoids
breaking cross compilation due to mismatched includes.

bpf_legacy.h file:
- load_{byte|half|word};
- remove extra inner_idx and numa_node fields from bpf_map_def and
  introduce bpf_map_def_legacy for use in samples;
- move BPF_ANNOTATE_KV_PAIR into bpf_legacy.h.

Adjust samples and selftests accordingly by either including
bpf_legacy.h and using bpf_map_def_legacy, or switching to BTF-defined
maps altogether.

Daniel T. Lee 8fdf5b780a samples: bpf: Add max_pckt_size option at xdp_adjust_tail
Currently, at xdp_adjust_tail_kern.c, MAX_PCKT_SIZE is limited
to 600. To make this size flexible, static global variable
'max_pcktsz' is added.

By updating new packet size from the user space, xdp_adjust_tail_kern.o
will use this value as a new max packet size.

This static global variable can be accesible from .data section with
bpf_object__find_map* from user space, since it is considered as
internal map (accessible with .bss/.data/.rodata suffix).

If no '-P <MAX_PCKT_SIZE>' option is used, the size of maximum packet
will be 600 as a default.

For clarity, change the helper to fetch map from 'bpf_map__next'
to 'bpf_object__find_map_fd_by_name'. Also, changed the way to
test prog_fd, map_fd from '!= 0' to '< 0', since fd could be 0
when stdin is closed.

Daniel T. Lee 3cad8f9115 samples: pktgen: fix proc_cmd command result check logic
Currently, proc_cmd is used to dispatch command to 'pg_ctrl', 'pg_thread',
'pg_set'. proc_cmd is designed to check command result with grep the
"Result:", but this might fail since this string is only shown in
'pg_thread' and 'pg_set'.

This commit fixes this logic by grep-ing the "Result:" string only when
the command is not for 'pg_ctrl'.

For clarity of an execution flow, 'errexit' flag has been set.

To cleanup pktgen on exit, trap has been added for EXIT signal.

For example, variable DST_MIN is quite confusing since the
keyword 'udp_dst_min' and keyword 'dst_min' is used with pg_ctrl.

Variable names are matched to the exact keyword used with pg_ctrl.

This patch modifies xdpsock to use mmap instead of posix_memalign. With
this change, we can use hugepages when running the application in unaligned
chunks mode. Using hugepages makes it more likely that we have physically

Kevin Laatz 03895e63ff samples/bpf: add buffer recycling for unaligned chunks to xdpsock
This patch adds buffer recycling support for unaligned buffers. Since we
don't mask the addr to 2k at umem_reg in unaligned mode, we need to make
sure we give back the correct (original) addr to the fill queue. We achieve
this using the new descriptor format and associated masks. The new format
uses the upper 16-bits for the offset and the lower 48-bits for the addr.
Since we have a field for the offset, we no longer need to modify the
actual address. As such, all we have to do to get back the original address
is mask for the lower 48 bits (i.e. strip the offset and we get the address
on it's own).

Parav Pandit eee413e620 vfio-mdev/mtty: Simplify interrupt generation
While generating interrupt, mdev_state is already available for which
interrupt is generated.
Instead of doing indirect way from state->device->uuid-> to searching
state linearly in linked list on every interrupt generation,
directly use the available state.

Hence, simplify the code to use mdev_state and remove unused helper
function with that.

Magnus Karlsson 46738f73ea samples/bpf: add use of need_wakeup flag in xdpsock
This commit adds using the need_wakeup flag to the xdpsock sample
application. It is turned on by default as we think it is a feature
that seems to always produce a performance benefit, if the application
has been written taking advantage of it. It can be turned off in the
sample app by using the '-m' command line option.

The txpush and l2fwd sub applications have also been updated to
support poll() with multiple sockets.

Make it clear that this XDP program depend on the network
stack to do the ARP resolution.  This is connected with the
BPF_FIB_LKUP_RET_NO_NEIGH return code from bpf_fib_lookup().

Another common mistake (seen via XDP-tutorial) is that users
don't realize that sysctl net.ipv{4,6}.conf.all.forwarding
setting is honored by bpf_fib_lookup.

Jesper Dangaard Brouer a32a32cb26 samples/bpf: make xdp_fwd more practically usable via devmap lookup
This address the TODO in samples/bpf/xdp_fwd_kern.c, which points out
that the chosen egress index should be checked for existence in the
devmap. This can now be done via taking advantage of Toke's work in
commit 0cdbb4b09a ("devmap: Allow map lookups from eBPF").

This change makes xdp_fwd more practically usable, as this allows for
a mixed environment, where IP-forwarding fallback to network stack, if
the egress device isn't configured to use XDP.

Ilya Leoshkevich 81f522f96f samples/bpf: build with -D__TARGET_ARCH_$(SRCARCH)
While $ARCH can be relatively flexible (see Makefile and
tools/scripts/Makefile.arch), $SRCARCH always corresponds to a directory
name under arch/.

Therefore, build samples with -D__TARGET_ARCH_$(SRCARCH), since that
matches the expectations of bpf_helpers.h.

The remaining conversion is actually:

Stanislav Fomichev 395338843d samples/bpf: add sample program that periodically dumps TCP stats
Uses new RTT callback to dump stats every second.

$ mkdir -p /tmp/cgroupv2
$ mount -t cgroup2 none /tmp/cgroupv2
$ mkdir -p /tmp/cgroupv2/foo
$ echo $$ >> /tmp/cgroupv2/foo/cgroup.procs
$ bpftool prog load ./tcp_dumpstats_kern.o /sys/fs/bpf/tcp_prog
$ bpftool cgroup attach /tmp/cgroupv2/foo sock_ops pinned /sys/fs/bpf/tcp_prog
$ bpftool prog tracelog
$ # run neper/netperf/etc

Used neper to compare performance with and without this program attached
and didn't see any noticeable performance impact.
