Laurent Pinchart ab334e137c drm: rcar-du: Move plane allocator to rcar_du_plane.c
The plane allocator is specific to DU planes and won't be used for
VSP-based planes, move it with the rest of the DU planes code where it
belongs.

Laurent Pinchart 2af0394409 drm: rcar-du: Restart the DU group when a plane source changes
Plane sources are configured by the VSPS bit in the PnDDCR4 register.
Although the datasheet states that the bit is updated during vertical
blanking, it seems that updates only occur when the DU group is held in
reset through the DSYSR.DRES bit. Restart the group if the source
changes.

Laurent Pinchart af8ad96290 drm: rcar-du: Add VSP1 support to the planes allocator
The R8A7790 DU can source frames directly from the VSP1 devices VSPD0
and VSPD1. VSPD0 feeds DU0/1 plane 0, and VSPD1 feeds either DU2 plane 0
or DU0/1 plane 1.

Allocate the correct fixed plane when sourcing frames from VSPD0 or
VSPD1, and allocate planes in reverse index order otherwise to ensure
maximum availability of planes 0 and 1.

Rename plane setup functions using more explicit names, and use local

Laurent Pinchart 1b0fd0ea49 drm: rcar-du: Don't update planes on disabled CRTCs
A disabled CRTC can't display planes, the driver shouldn't try to
configure it when updating planes. The DRM core will store the plane
state for us, and the plane will be configured appropriately the next
time the CRTC is enabled.

Laurent Pinchart 6ea22ab4a0 drm: rcar-du: Remove local CRTC enabled state
The atomic framework guarantees that the CRTC enable and disable
functions will only be called when needed, there's no need to duplicate
the CRTC state check. By replacing the local CRTC enabled state check at
resume time with the CRTC active state we can remove the local CRTC
enabled state altogether.

Laurent Pinchart c1d4b38c93 drm: rcar-du: Perform initialization/cleanup at probe/remove time
The drm driver .load() operation is prone to race conditions as it
initializes the driver after registering the device nodes. Its usage is
deprecated, inline it in the probe function and call drm_dev_alloc() and
drm_dev_register() explicitly.

For consistency inline the .unload() handler in the remove function as
well.

Ville Syrjälä b0b3b79511 drm: Pass 'name' to drm_universal_plane_init()
Done with coccinelle for the most part. It choked on
msm/mdp/mdp5/mdp5_plane.c like so:
"BAD:!!!!! enum drm_plane_type type;"
No idea how to deal with that, so I just fixed that up
by hand.

Also it thinks '...' is part of the semantic patch, so I put an
'int DOTDOTDOT' placeholder in its place and got rid of it with
sed afterwards.

I didn't convert drm_plane_init() since passing the varargs through
would mean either cpp macros or va_list, and I figured we don't
care about these legacy functions enough to warrant the extra pain.

Daniel Vetter aef9dbb8f7 drm/atomic-helper: Add option to update planes only on active crtc
With drivers supporting runtime pm it's generally not a good idea to
touch the hardware when it's off. Add an option to the commit_planes
helper to support this case.

Note that the helpers already add all planes on a crtc when a modeset
happens, hence plane updates will not be lost if drivers set this to
true.

v2: Check for NULL state->crtc before chasing the pointer. Also check
both old and new crtc if there's a switch. Finally just outright
disallow switching crtcs for a plane if the plane is in active use, on
most hardware that doesn't make sense.

v3: Since commit_planes(active_only = true) is for enabling things
only after all the crtc are on we should only look at the new crtc to
decide whether to call the plane hooks - if the current CRTC isn't on
then skip. If the old crtc (when moving a plane) went down then the
plane should have been disabled as part of the pipe shutdown work
already. For which there's currently no helper really unfortunately.
Also move the check for wether a plane gets a new CRTC assigned while
still in active use out of this patch.

v4: Rebase over exynos changes.

Laurent Pinchart 911316fe2f drm: rcar-du: Disable all planes when stopping the CRTC
The DSnPR plane configuration registers are updated on vblank, and no
vblank will occur once the CRTC is stopped. We thus can't only disable
planes right before starting the CRTC as it would start scanning out
immediately from old frame buffers until the next vblank.

Fix the problem by disabling all planes when stopping the CRTC and wait
for the change to take effect. This increases the CRTC stop delay,
especially when multiple CRTCs are stopped in one operation as we now
wait for one vblank per CRTC. Whether this can be improved needs to be
researched.

Laurent Pinchart 5ee5a81df5 drm: rcar-du: Fix race condition in hardware plane allocator
The plane allocator has been inherently racy since the beginning of the
transition to atomic updates, as the allocator lock is released between
free plane check (at .atomic_check() time) and the reservation (at
.atomic_update() time).

To fix it, create a new allocator solely based on the atomic plane
states without keeping any external state and perform allocation in the
.atomic_check() handler. The core idea is to replace the free planes
bitmask with a collective knowledge based on the allocated hardware
plane(s) for each KMS plane. The allocator then loops over all plane
states to compute the free planes bitmask, allocates hardware planes
based on that bitmask, and stores the result back in the plane states.

For this to work we need to access the current state of planes not
touched by the atomic update. To ensure that it won't be modified, we
need to lock all planes using drm_atomic_get_plane_state(). This
effectively serializes atomic updates from .atomic_check() up to
completion, either when swapping the states if the check step has
succeeded, or when freeing the states if the check step has failed.

As the DRM core will commit plane states when performing atomic updates,
those don't need to be committed manually when the CRTC is started except
in the system resume code path.

However, the atomic plane commit step is currently performed between
mode set disable and mode set enable to mimick the legacy mode setting
operations order. This causes the device clocks to be disabled after
applying plane settings and reenabled when enabling the CRTC,
potentially losing hardware in between.

Reorder the operations to enable the CRTC first and only then apply
plane settings, removing the need to manage clocks in the atomic begin
and flush handlers. We can then move the plane state commit code out of
the CRTC start handler to the system resume handler.

Laurent Pinchart 0cd90a5428 drm: rcar-du: Turn vblank on/off when enabling/disabling CRTC
The DRM core vblank handling mechanism requires drivers to forcefully
turn vblank reporting off when disabling the CRTC, and to restore the
vblank reporting status when enabling the CRTC.

Implement this using the drm_crtc_vblank_on/off helpers. When disabling
vblank we must first wait for page flips to complete, so implement page
flip completion wait as well.

Finally, drm_crtc_vblank_off() must be called at startup to synchronize
the state of the vblank core code with the hardware, which is initially
disabled. This is performed at CRTC creation time, requiring vertical
blanking to be initialized before creating CRTCs.

GPGPU use. They have an open source userspace built on top of this
interface, and the code looks as good as it was going to get out of

   - Initial atomic modesetting work

Laurent Pinchart 69746b4112 drm: rcar-du: Replace drm_encoder with drm_slave_encoder
DRM slave encoders require their associated struct drm_encoder instance
to be embedded in a struct drm_slave_encoder. This makes processing
encoders regardless of their types needlessly and painfully complex in
drivers that use a mix of slave encoders and custom encoders. Such a
driver will need to either create drm_slave_encoder instances that fake
their embedded encoder instance, or to turn all drm_encoder instances
into drm_slave_encoder instances.

Between the two evils, one must choose the lesser. Use drm_slave_encoder
