Commit be0c37c985 ("MIPS: Rearrange PTE bits into fixed positions.")
rearranged the PTE bits into fixed positions in preparation for the XPA
support. However, this patch broke R6 since it only took R2 cores
into consideration for the RI/XI bits leading to boot failures. We fix
this by adding the missing CONFIG_CPU_MIPSR6 definitions

setup_per_cpu_areas() only setup __per_cpu_offset[] for each possible
cpu, but loongson_sysconf.nr_cpus can be greater than possible cpus
(due to reserved_cpus_mask). So in loongson3_ipi_interrupt(), percpu
access will touch the original varible in .data..percpu section which
has been freed. Without this patch, cpu-hotplug will cause memery

Commit 334c86c494 ("MIPS: IRQ: Add stackoverflow detection") added
kernel stack overflow detection, however it only enabled it conditional
upon the preprocessor definition DEBUG_STACKOVERFLOW, which is never
actually defined. The Kconfig option is called DEBUG_STACKOVERFLOW,
which manifests to the preprocessor as CONFIG_DEBUG_STACKOVERFLOW, so
switch it to using that definition instead.

On s390x we have to provide 160 bytes stack space before we can call
the next function. From the 160 bytes that we got from the previous
function we only use 11 * 8 bytes and have 160 - 11 * 8 bytes left.
Currently for BPF we allocate additional 160 - 11 * 8 bytes for the
next function. This is wrong because then the next function only gets:
(160 - 11 * 8) + (160 - 11 * 8) = 2 * 72 = 144 bytes
Fix this and allocate enough memory for the next function.

The early_idt_handlers asm code generates an array of entry
points spaced nine bytes apart. It's not really clear from that
code or from the places that reference it what's going on, and
the code only works in the first place because GAS never
generates two-byte JMP instructions when jumping to global
labels.
Clean up the code to generate the correct array stride (member size)
explicitly. This should be considerably more robust against
screw-ups, as GAS will warn if a .fill directive has a negative
count. Using '. =' to advance would have been even more robust
(it would generate an actual error if it tried to move
backwards), but it would pad with nulls, confusing anyone who
tries to disassemble the code. The new scheme should be much
clearer to future readers.
While we're at it, improve the comments and rename the array and
common code.
Binutils may start relaxing jumps to non-weak labels. If so,
this change will fix our build, and we may need to backport this
change.

New system control module layout for omap3 overlooked parts of the am35xx

changed offsets, which caused weird boot warnings. The errors were not
fatal so far, so they were not caught earlier. Fixed by applying the

Bit 9 of TTE is CV (Cacheable in V-cache) on sparc v9 processor while
the same bit 9 is MCDE (Memory Corruption Detection Enable) on M7
processor. This creates a conflicting usage of the same bit. Kernel
sets TTE.cv bit on all pages for sun4v architecture which works well
for sparc v9 but enables memory corruption detection on M7 processor
which is not the intent. This patch adds code to determine if kernel
is running on M7 processor and takes steps to not enable memory

This fixes a bug uncovered by a recent driver core change that
modified the implementation of the ACPI_COMPANION_SET() macro to
strictly rely on its second argument to be either NULL or a valid
pointer to struct acpi_device.
As it turns out, pcibios_root_bridge_prepare() on x86 and ia64
works with the assumption that the only code path calling
pci_create_root_bus() is pci_acpi_scan_root() and therefore
the sysdata argument passed to it will always match the
expectations of pcibios_root_bridge_prepare(). That need not
be the case, however, and in particular it is not the case for
the Xen pcifront driver that passes a pointer to its own private
data strcture as sysdata to pci_scan_bus_parented() which then
passes it to pci_create_root_bus() and it ends up being used
incorrectly by pcibios_root_bridge_prepare().

Linus reported the following new warning on x86 allmodconfig with GCC 5.1:
> ./arch/x86/include/asm/spinlock.h: In function ‘arch_spin_lock’:
> ./arch/x86/include/asm/spinlock.h:119:3: warning: implicit declaration
> of function ‘__ticket_lock_spinning’ [-Wimplicit-function-declaration]
> __ticket_lock_spinning(lock, inc.tail);
> ^
This warning triggers because of these hacks in misc.h:
/*
* we have to be careful, because no indirections are allowed here, and
* paravirt_ops is a kind of one. As it will only run in baremetal anyway,
* we just keep it from happening
*/
#undef CONFIG_PARAVIRT
#undef CONFIG_KASAN
But these hacks were not updated when CONFIG_PARAVIRT_SPINLOCKS was added,
and eventually (with the introduction of queued paravirt spinlocks in
recent kernels) this created an invalid Kconfig combination and broke
the build.
So add a CONFIG_PARAVIRT_SPINLOCKS #undef line as well.
Also remove the _ASM_X86_DESC_H quirk: that undocumented quirk
was originally added ages ago, in:
099e137726 ("x86: use ELF format in compressed images.")
and I went back to that kernel (and fixed up the main Makefile
which didn't build anymore) and checked what failure it
avoided: it avoided an include file dependencies related
build failure related to our old x86-platforms code.
That old code is long gone, the header dependencies got cleaned
up, and the build does not fail anymore with the totality of
asm/desc.h included - so remove the quirk.

The power management related assembly on omaps needs to interact with
ARM mode bootrom code, so we need to keep most of the related assembly
in ARM mode.
Turns out this error is because of missing ENDPROC for assembly code
as suggested by Stephen Boyd <sboyd@codeaurora.org>. Let's fix the
problem by adding ENDPROC in two places to sleep34xx.S.
Let's also remove the now duplicate custom code for mode switching.
This has been unnecessary since commit 6ebbf2ce43 ("ARM: convert
all "mov.* pc, reg" to "bx reg" for ARMv6+").
And let's also remove the comments about local variables, they are
now just confusing after the ENDPROC.
The reason why ENDPROC makes a difference is it sets .type and then
the compiler knows what to do with the thumb bit as explained at:

Commit 97badf873a (device property: Make it possible to use
secondary firmware nodes) uncovered a bug in the x86 (and ia64) PCI
host bridge initialization code that assumes bridge->bus->sysdata
to always point to a struct pci_sysdata object which need not be
the case (in particular, the Xen PCI frontend driver sets it to point
to a different data type). If it is not the case, an incorrect
pointer (or a piece of data that is not a pointer at all) will be
passed to ACPI_COMPANION_SET() and that may cause interesting
breakage to happen going forward.
To work around this problem use the observation that the ACPI
host bridge initialization always passes NULL as parent to
pci_create_root_bus(), so if pcibios_root_bridge_prepare() sees
a non-NULL parent of the bridge, it should not attempt to set
an ACPI companion for it, because that means that
pci_create_root_bus() has been called by someone else.

I stumbled upon an AMD box that had the BIOS using a hardware performance
counter. Instead of printing out a warning and continuing, it failed and
blocked further perf counter usage.
Looking through the history, I found this commit:
a5ebe0ba3d ("perf/x86: Check all MSRs before passing hw check")
which tweaked the rules for a Xen guest on an almost identical box and now
changed the behaviour.
Unfortunately the rules were tweaked incorrectly and will always lead to
MSR failures even though the MSRs are completely fine.
What happens now is in arch/x86/kernel/cpu/perf_event.c::check_hw_exists():
<snip>
for (i = 0; i < x86_pmu.num_counters; i++) {
reg = x86_pmu_config_addr(i);
ret = rdmsrl_safe(reg, &val);
if (ret)
goto msr_fail;
if (val & ARCH_PERFMON_EVENTSEL_ENABLE) {
bios_fail = 1;
val_fail = val;
reg_fail = reg;
}
}
<snip>
/*
* Read the current value, change it and read it back to see if it
* matches, this is needed to detect certain hardware emulators
* (qemu/kvm) that don't trap on the MSR access and always return 0s.
*/
reg = x86_pmu_event_addr(0);
^^^^
if the first perf counter is enabled, then this routine will always fail
because the counter is running. :-(
if (rdmsrl_safe(reg, &val))
goto msr_fail;
val ^= 0xffffUL;
ret = wrmsrl_safe(reg, val);
ret |= rdmsrl_safe(reg, &val_new);
if (ret || val != val_new)
goto msr_fail;
The above bios_fail used to be a 'goto' which is why it worked in the past.
Further, most vendors have migrated to using fixed counters to hide their
evilness hence this problem rarely shows up now days except on a few old boxes.
I fixed my problem and kept the spirit of the original Xen fix, by recording a
safe non-enable register to be used safely for the reading/writing check.
Because it is not enabled, this passes on bare metal boxes (like metal), but
should continue to throw an msr_fail on Xen guests because the register isn't
emulated yet.
Now I get a proper bios_fail error message and Xen should still see their
msr_fail message (untested).

Currently, pt_buffer_reset_markers() is a difficult to read knot of
arithmetics with a redundant check for multiple-entry TOPA capability,
a commented out wakeup marker placement and a logical error wrt to
stop marker placement. The latter happens when write head is not page
aligned and results in stop marker being placed one page earlier than
it actually should.
All these problems only affect PT implementations that support
multiple-entry TOPA tables (read: proper scatter-gather).
For single-entry TOPA implementations, there is no functional impact.
This patch deals with all of the above. Tested on both single-entry
and multiple-entry TOPA PT implementations.

The (SNB/IVB/HSW) HT bug only affects events that can be programmed
onto GP counters, therefore we should only limit the number of GP
counters that can be used per cpu -- iow we should not constrain the

Furthermore, we should only enfore such a limit when there are in fact
exclusive events being scheduled on either sibling.

The GPC rewrite to IRQ domains has been on the premise that it may break
suspend/resume for new kernels on old DT, but otherwise keep things working
from a user perspective. This was an accepted compromise to be able to move
the GIC cleanup forward.
What actually happened was that booting a new kernel on an old DT crashes
before even the console is up, so the user does not even see the warning
that the DT is too old. The warning message suggests that this has been
known before, which is clearly unacceptable.
Fix the early crash by mapping the GPC memory space if the IRQ controller
doesn't claim it. This keeps at least CPUidle and the needed CPU wakeup
workarounds working. With this fixed the system is able to boot up
properly minus the expected suspend/resume breakage.

Commit 43b4578071 ("perf/x86: Reduce stack usage of
x86_schedule_events()") violated the rule that 'fake' scheduling; as
used for event/group validation; should not change the event state.
This went mostly un-noticed because repeated calls of
x86_pmu::get_event_constraints() would give the same result. And
x86_pmu::put_event_constraints() would mostly not do anything.
Commit e979121b1b ("perf/x86/intel: Implement cross-HT corruption
bug workaround") made the situation much worse by actually setting the
event->hw.constraint value to NULL, so when validation and actual
scheduling interact we get NULL ptr derefs.
Fix it by removing the constraint pointer from the event and move it
back to an array, this time in cpuc instead of on the stack.
validate_group()
x86_schedule_events()
event->hw.constraint = c; # store
<context switch>
perf_task_event_sched_in()
...
x86_schedule_events();
event->hw.constraint = c2; # store
...
put_event_constraints(event); # assume failure to schedule
intel_put_event_constraints()
event->hw.constraint = NULL;
<context switch end>
c = event->hw.constraint; # read -> NULL
if (!test_bit(hwc->idx, c->idxmsk)) # <- *BOOM* NULL deref
This in particular is possible when the event in question is a
cpu-wide event and group-leader, where the validate_group() tries to
add an event to the group.

The srm console is always built in. It will never be modular,
so using module_init as an alias for __initcall is rather
misleading.
Fix this up now, so that we can relocate module_init from
init.h into module.h in the future. If we don't do this, we'd
have to add module.h to obviously non-modular code, and that
would be a worse thing.
Direct use of __initcall is discouraged, vs prioritized ones.
Use of device_initcall is consistent with what __initcall
maps onto, and hence does not change the init order, making the
impact of this change zero. Should someone with real hardware
for boot testing want to change it later to arch_initcall or
console_initcall, they can do that at a later date.

Not all "#define NR_IRQS <value>" are a multiple of BITS_PER_LONG so
using DECLARE_BITMAP allocates the proper number of longs required
for the possible bits.
For instance:
arch/mips/include/asm/mach-ath79/irq.h:#define NR_IRQS 51
arch/mips/include/asm/mach-db1x00/irq.h:#define NR_IRQS 152
arch/mips/include/asm/mach-lantiq/falcon/irq.h:#define NR_IRQS 328

x86 has variable length encoding. x86 JIT compiler is trying
to pick the shortest encoding for given bpf instruction.
While doing so the jump targets are changing, so JIT is doing
multiple passes over the program. Typical program needs 3 passes.
Some very short programs converge with 2 passes. Large programs
may need 4 or 5. But specially crafted bpf programs may hit the
pass limit and if the program converges on the last iteration
the JIT compiler will be producing an image full of 'int 3' insns.
Fix this corner case by doing final iteration over bpf program.

ARM: dts: omap3-devkit8000: Fix NAND DT node
ARM: dts: am335x-boneblack: disable RTC-only sleep
While Sitara AM335x SoCs are very close to OMAP SoCs, the 32-line GPIO
controllers are numbered from 0 on AM335x and from 1 on OMAP. But when
the configuration for the TI WLAN controllers was converted from
platform data to device tree, this detail was overlooked, as 10 boards
were using OMAP with the WL12xx and WL18xx controllers, and only one
was based on AM335x.
This invalid configuration prevents the WL1271 module on the AM335x
EVM-SK from notifying interrupts to the SoC, and breaks the wlan driver.
The DTS must be corrected to use the correct GPIO controller.

The kernel's handling of 'compacted' xsave state layout is buggy:
http://marc.info/?l=linux-kernel&m=142967852317199
I don't have such a system, and the description there is vague, but
from extrapolation I guess that there were two kinds of bugs
observed:
- boot crashes, due to size calculations being wrong and the dynamic
allocation allocating a too small xstate area. (This is now fixed
in the new FPU code - but still present in stable kernels.)
- FPU state corruption and ABI breakage: if signal handlers try to
change the FPU state in standard format, which then the kernel
tries to restore in the compacted format.
These breakages are scary, but they only occur on a small number of
systems that have XSAVES* CPU support. Yet we have had XSAVES support
in the upstream kernel for a large number of stable kernel releases,
and the fixes are involved and unproven.
So do the safe resolution first: disable XSAVES* support and only
use the standard xstate format. This makes the code work and is
easy to backport.
On top of this we can work on enabling (and testing!) proper
compacted format support, without backporting pressure, on top of the
new, cleaned up FPU code.

Pull parisc fixes from Helge Deller:
"One important patch which fixes crashes due to stack randomization on
architectures where the stack grows upwards (currently parisc and
metag only).
This bug went unnoticed on parisc since kernel 3.14 where the flexible
mmap memory layout support was added by commit 9dabf60dc4. The
changes in fs/exec.c are inside an #ifdef CONFIG_STACK_GROWSUP section
and will not affect other platforms.
The other two patches rename args of the kthread_arg() function and
fixes a printk output"

Josh Stone reports:
I've discovered a case where both arm and arm64 will miss a ptrace
syscall-exit that they should report. If the syscall is entered
without TIF_SYSCALL_TRACE set, then it goes on the fast path. It's
then possible to have TIF_SYSCALL_TRACE added in the middle of the
syscall, but ret_fast_syscall doesn't check this flag again.
Fix this by always checking for a syscall trace in the fast exit path.

At boot time we round the memblock limit down to section size in an
attempt to ensure that we will have mapped this RAM with section
mappings prior to allocating from it. When mapping RAM we iterate over
PMD-sized chunks, creating these section mappings.
Section mappings are only created when the end of a chunk is aligned to
section size. Unfortunately, with classic page tables (where PMD_SIZE is
2 * SECTION_SIZE) this means that if a chunk is between 1M and 2M in
size the first 1M will not be mapped despite having been accounted for
in the memblock limit. This has been observed to result in page tables
being allocated from unmapped memory, causing boot-time hangs.
This patch modifies the memblock limit rounding to always round down to
PMD_SIZE instead of SECTION_SIZE. For classic MMU this means that we
will round the memblock limit down to a 2M boundary, matching the limits
on section mappings, and preventing allocations from unmapped memory.
For LPAE there should be no change as PMD_SIZE == SECTION_SIZE.

On Exynos4412 boards (Trats2, Odroid U3) after enabling L2 cache in
56b60b8bce ("ARM: 8265/1: dts: exynos4: Add nodes for L2 cache
controller") the second suspend to RAM failed. First suspend worked fine
but the next one hang just after powering down of secondary CPUs (system
consumed energy as it would be running but was not responsive).
The issue was caused by enabling delayed reset assertion for CPU0 just
after issuing power down of cores. This was introduced for Exynos4 in
13cfa6c4f7 ("ARM: EXYNOS: Fix CPU idle clock down after CPU off").
The whole behavior is not well documented but after checking with vendor
code this should be done like this (on Exynos4):
1. Enable delayed reset assertion when system is running (for all CPUs).
2. Disable delayed reset assertion before suspending the system.
This can be done after powering off secondary CPUs.
3. Re-enable the delayed reset assertion when system is resumed.

Fix "BUG: using smp_processor_id() in preemptible" reported in accesses
to thread's FPU defaults: the value to initialise FSCR to at program
startup, the FCSR r/w mask and the contents of FIR in full FPU
emulation, removing a regression introduced with 9b26616c [MIPS: Respect
the ISA level in FCSR handling] and f6843626 [MIPS: math-emu: Set FIR
feature flags for full emulation].
Use `boot_cpu_data' to obtain the data from, following the approach that
`cpu_has_*' macros take and avoiding the call to `smp_processor_id' made
in the reference to `current_cpu_data'. The contents of FSCR have to be
consistent across processors in an SMP system, the settings there must
not change as a thread is migrated across processors. And the contents
of FIR are guaranteed to be consistent in FPU emulation, by definition.

On architectures where the stack grows upwards (CONFIG_STACK_GROWSUP=y,
currently parisc and metag only) stack randomization sometimes leads to crashes
when the stack ulimit is set to lower values than STACK_RND_MASK (which is 8 MB
by default if not defined in arch-specific headers).
The problem is, that when the stack vm_area_struct is set up in fs/exec.c, the
additional space needed for the stack randomization (as defined by the value of
STACK_RND_MASK) was not taken into account yet and as such, when the stack
randomization code added a random offset to the stack start, the stack
effectively got smaller than what the user defined via rlimit_max(RLIMIT_STACK)
which then sometimes leads to out-of-stack situations and crashes.
This patch fixes it by adding the maximum possible amount of memory (based on
STACK_RND_MASK) which theoretically could be added by the stack randomization
code to the initial stack size. That way, the user-defined stack size is always
guaranteed to be at minimum what is defined via rlimit_max(RLIMIT_STACK).
This bug is currently not visible on the metag architecture, because on metag
STACK_RND_MASK is defined to 0 which effectively disables stack randomization.
The changes to fs/exec.c are inside an "#ifdef CONFIG_STACK_GROWSUP"
section, so it does not affect other platformws beside those where the
stack grows upwards (parisc and metag).

state if the card power is not preserved during a suspend/resume cycle.
So Suspend-to-RAM and Suspend-to-idle is failing on Exynos5800 Peach Pi

Add the keep-power-in-suspend Power Management property to the SDIO/MMC

Commit 46490b5725 ("MIPS: kernel: elf: Improve the overall ABI and FPU
mode checks") reworked the ELF FP ABI mode selection logic, but when
CONFIG_MIPS_O32_FP64_SUPPORT is enabled it breaks the use of binaries
which have no PT_MIPS_ABIFLAGS program header & associated
.MIPS.abiflags section.
A default mode is selected based upon whether the ELF contains MIPS32 or
MIPS64 code, but that selection is made in arch_elf_pt_proc.
arch_elf_pt_proc only executes when a PT_MIPS_ABIFLAGS program header is
found. If one is not found then arch_elf_pt_proc is never called, and no
default overall_fp_mode value is selected. When arch_check_elf is
called, both abi0 & abi1 are MIPS_ABI_FP_UNKNOWN which leads to both
prog_req & interp_req being set to none_req. none_req matches none of
the conditions for mode selection at the end of arch_check_elf, so
overall_fp_mode is left untouched. Finally once mips_set_personality_fp
is called the BUG() in the default case is then hit & the kernel likely
panics.
Fix this by moving the selection of a default overall mode to the start
of arch_check_elf, which runs once per ELF executed regardless of
whether it has a PT_MIPS_ABIFLAGS program header.

Commit d795ef9aa8 ("arm64: perf: don't warn about missing
interrupt-affinity property for PPIs") added a check for PPIs so that
we avoid parsing the interrupt-affinity property for these naturally
affine interrupts.
Unfortunately, this check can trigger an early (successful) return and
we will leak the irqs array. This patch fixes the issue by reordering
the code so that the check is performed before any independent
allocation.

This patch fixes a compiler warning in gemini_restart()
issued by commit 7b6d864b48 ("reboot:arm: reboot_mode
changes from char to enum reboot_mode").
arch/arm/mach-gemini/board-rut1xx.c:93:2: warning: initialization from incompatible pointer type
The warning is harmless, and the patch does not need to
be backported to stable kernels.

the CPU affinity for each SPI listed in the interrupts property.
Without this property, we get this boot warning:

The clock generator in IOFPGA generates the two source clocks: 32kHz and
1MHz for the SP810 System Controller.
The SP810 System Controller selects 32kHz or 1MHz as the sources for
TIM_CLK[3:0], the SP804 timer clocks. The powerup default is 32kHz but
the maximum of "refclk" and "timclk" is chosen by the SP810 driver.
This patch adds support for SP810 system controller and also fixes the
SP804 timer clock frequency.
However the SP804 driver needs to be enabled on ARM64 to test this,
which requires SP804 driver to be moved out of arch/arm.

Before 69111bac42 ("powerpc: Replace __get_cpu_var uses"), in
save_mce_event, index got the value of mce_nest_count, and
mce_nest_count was incremented *after* index was set.
However, that patch changed the behaviour so that mce_nest count was
incremented *before* setting index.
This causes an off-by-one error, as get_mce_event sets index as
mce_nest_count - 1 before reading mce_event. Thus get_mce_event reads
bogus data, causing warnings like
"Machine Check Exception, Unknown event version 0 !"
and breaking MCEs handling.
Restore the old behaviour and unbreak MCE handling by subtracting one
from the newly incremented value.
The same broken change occured in machine_check_queue_event (which set
a queue read by machine_check_process_queued_event). Fix that too,
unbreaking printing of MCE information.

We need to check whether pte is present in follow_huge_addr() and
properly return NULL if mapping is not present. Also use READ_ONCE
when dereferencing pte_t address.
Without this patch, we may wrongly return a zero pfn page in
follow_huge_addr().

Serialize against find_linux_pte_or_hugepte() which does lock-less
lookup in page tables with local interrupts disabled. For huge pages it
casts pmd_t to pte_t. Since the format of pte_t is different from pmd_t
we want to prevent transit from pmd pointing to page table to pmd
pointing to huge page (and back) while interrupts are disabled. We
clear pmd to possibly replace it with page table pointer in different
code paths. So make sure we wait for the parallel
find_linux_pte_or_hugepage() to finish.
Without this patch, a find_linux_pte_or_hugepte() running in parallel to
__split_huge_zero_page_pmd() or do_huge_pmd_wp_page_fallback() or
zap_huge_pmd() can run into the above issue. With
__split_huge_zero_page_pmd() and do_huge_pmd_wp_page_fallback() we clear
the hugepage pte before inserting the pmd entry with a regular pgtable
address. Such a clear need to wait for the parallel
find_linux_pte_or_hugepte() to finish.
With zap_huge_pmd(), we can run into issues, with a hugepage pte getting
zapped due to a MADV_DONTNEED while other cpu fault it in as small
pages.

As we've been unconditionally already calling clk_set_parent
