mmc: host: tmio: Use GPIO descriptors
The TMIO MMC driver was passing global GPIO numbers around for card detect. It turns out only one single board in the kernel was actually making use of this feature so it is pretty easy to convert the driver to use only GPIO descriptors. The lines are flagged as GPIO_ACTIVE_[LOW|HIGH] as that is what they are, and since we can now rely on the descriptors to have the right polarity, we set the "override_active_level" to false in mmc_gpiod_request_cd() and mmc_gpiod_request_ro(). mmc: spi: Convert to use GPIO descriptors
Switch the SPI MMC driver to use GPIO descriptors internally and just look those up using the standard slot GPIO functions mmc_gpiod_request_cd() and mmc_gpiod_request_ro(). Make sure to request index 0 and 1 in accordance with the SPI MMC DT binding, and add the same GPIOs in machine descriptor tables on all boards that use SPI MMC in board files. arch/sh/include/asm/io.h: provide prototypes for PCI I/O mapping in asm/io.h
Most architectures provide prototypes for the PCI I/O mapping operations when asm/io.h is included but SH doesn't currently do that, leading to for example warnings in sound/pci/hda/patch_ca0132.c when pci_iomap() is used on current -next. Make SH more consistent with other architectures by including asm-generic/pci_iomap.h in asm/io.h. dma-mapping: always build the direct mapping code
All architectures except for sparc64 use the dma-direct code in some form, and even for sparc64 we had the discussion of a direct mapping mode a while ago. In preparation for directly calling the direct mapping code don't bother having it optionally but always build the code in. This is a minor hardship for some powerpc and arm configs that don't pull it in yet (although they should in a relase ot two), and sparc64 which currently doesn't need it at all, but it will reduce the ifdef mess we'd otherwise need significantly. sh/function_graph: Simplify with function_graph_enter()
The function_graph_enter() function does the work of calling the function
graph hook function and the management of the shadow stack, simplifying the
work done in the architecture dependent prepare_ftrace_return().
Have superh use the new code, and remove the shadow stack management as well as
having to set up the trace structure.
This is needed to prepare for a fix of a design bug on how the curr_ret_stack
is used.

pcmcia: allow PCMCIA support independent of the architecture
There is nothing architecture specific in the PCMCIA core, so allow building it everywhere. The actual host controllers will depend on ISA, PCI or a specific SOC. PCI: consolidate the PCI_DOMAINS and PCI_DOMAINS_GENERIC config options
Move the definitions to drivers/pci and let the architectures select them. Two small differences to before: PCI_DOMAINS_GENERIC now selects PCI_DOMAINS, cutting down the churn for modern architectures. As the only architectured arm did previously also offer PCI_DOMAINS as a user visible choice in addition to selecting it from the relevant configs, this is gone now. PCI: consolidate PCI config entry in drivers/pci
There is no good reason to duplicate the PCI menu in every architecture. Instead provide a selectable HAVE_PCI symbol that indicates availability of PCI support, and a FORCE_PCI symbol to for PCI on and the handle the rest in drivers/pci. memblock: replace alloc_bootmem_pages with memblock_alloc
The alloc_bootmem_pages() function allocates PAGE_SIZE aligned memory. memblock_alloc() with alignment set to PAGE_SIZE does exactly the same thing. treewide: remove current_text_addr
Prefer _THIS_IP_ defined in linux/kernel.h. Most definitions of current_text_addr were the same as _THIS_IP_, but a few archs had inline assembly instead. This patch removes the final call site of current_text_addr, making all of the definitions dead code. TTY/Serial patches for 4.20-rc1
Here is the big tty and serial pull request for 4.20-rc1 Lots of little things here, including a merge from the SPI tree in order to keep things simpler for everyone to sync around for one platform. Major stuff is: - tty buffer clearing after use - atmel_serial fixes and additions - xilinx uart driver updates and of course, lots of tiny fixes and additions to individual serial drivers. All of these have been in linux-next with no reported issues for a while. Devicetree updates for 4.20:
- Sync dtc with upstream version v1.4.7-14-gc86da84d30e4 - Work to get rid of direct accesses to struct device_node name and type pointers in preparation for removing them. New helpers for parsing DT cpu nodes and conversions to use the helpers. printk conversions to %pOFn for printing DT node names. Most went thru subystem trees, so this is the remainder. - Fixes to DT child node lookups to actually be restricted to child nodes instead of treewide. - Refactoring of dtb targets out of arch code. mtd: rawnand: plat_nand: Pass a nand_chip object to all platform_nand_ctrl hooks
Let's make the raw NAND API consistent by patching all helpers and hooks to take a nand_chip object instead of an mtd_info one or remove the mtd_info object when both are passed. In order to do that, we first need to update the platform_nand_ctrl hooks to take a nand_chip object instead of an mtd_info. We add temporary plat_nand_xxx() wrappers to the do the mtd -> chip conversion, but those will be dropped when patching nand_chip hooks to take a nand_chip object. regulator: fixed: Convert to use GPIO descriptor only
As we augmented the regulator core to accept a GPIO descriptor instead of a GPIO number, we can augment the fixed GPIO regulator to look up and pass that descriptor directly from device tree or board GPIO descriptor look up tables. Some boards just auto-enumerate their fixed regulator platform devices and I have assumed they get names like "fixed-regulator.0" but it's pretty hard to guess this. I need some testing from board maintainers to be sure. Other boards are straight forward, using just plain "fixed-regulator" (ID -1) or "fixed-regulator.1" hammering down the device ID. It seems the da9055 and da9211 has never got around to actually passing any enable gpio into its platform data (not the in-tree code anyway) so we can just decide to simply pass a descriptor instead. The fixed GPIO-controlled regulator in mach-pxa/ezx.c was confusingly named "*_dummy_supply_device" while it is a very real device backed by a GPIO line. There is nothing dummy about it at all, so I renamed it with the infix *_regulator_* as part of this patch set. Intel MID portions tested by Andy. asm-generic: Remove unneeded __ARCH_WANT_SYS_LLSEEK macro
The sys_llseek sytem call is needed on all 32-bit architectures and none of the 64-bit ones, so we can remove the __ARCH_WANT_SYS_LLSEEK guard and simplify the include/asm-generic/unistd.h header further. Since 32-bit tasks can run either natively or in compat mode on 64-bit architectures, we have to check for both !CONFIG_64BIT and CONFIG_COMPAT. There are a few 64-bit architectures that also reference sys_llseek in their 64-bit ABI (e.g. sparc), but I verified that those all select CONFIG_COMPAT, so the #if check is still correct here. It's a bit odd to include it in the syscall table though, as it's the same as sys_lseek() on 64-bit, but with strange calling conventions. y2038: Remove newstat family from default syscall set
We have four generations of stat() syscalls: - the oldstat syscalls that are only used on the older architectures - the newstat family that is used on all 64-bit architectures but lacked support for large files on 32-bit architectures. - the stat64 family that is used mostly on 32-bit architectures to replace newstat - statx() to replace all of the above, adding 64-bit timestamps among other things. We already compile stat64 only on those architectures that need it, but newstat is always built, including on those that don't reference it. This adds a new __ARCH_WANT_NEW_STAT symbol along the lines of __ARCH_WANT_OLD_STAT and __ARCH_WANT_STAT64 to control compilation of newstat. All architectures that need it use an explict define, the others now get a little bit smaller, and future architecture (including 64-bit targets) won't ever see it. mm: convert return type of handle_mm_fault() caller to vm_fault_t
Use new return type vm_fault_t for fault handler. For now, this is just
documenting that the function returns a VM_FAULT value rather than an
errno. Once all instances are converted, vm_fault_t will become a
distinct type.

Kconfig: consolidate the "Kernel hacking" menu
Move the source of lib/Kconfig.debug and arch/$(ARCH)/Kconfig.debug to the top-level Kconfig. For two architectures that means moving their arch-specific symbols in that menu into a new arch Kconfig.debug file, and for a few more creating a dummy file so that we can include it unconditionally. PCI: Call dma_debug_add_bus() for pci_bus_type from PCI core
There is nothing arch-specific about PCI or dma-debug, so call dma_debug_add_bus() from the PCI core just after registering the bus type. Most of dma-debug is already generic; this just adds reporting of pending dma-allocations on driver unload for arches other than powerpc, sh, and x86. Use the new renesas-ceu camera driver in ap325rxa board file instead of the soc_camera based sh_mobile_ceu_camera driver. Get rid of soc_camera specific components, and register CEU0 with a single video sensor (ov7725). Memory for the CEU video buffers is now reserved with membocks APIs and need to be declared as dma_coherent during machine initialization to remove that architecture specific part from CEU driver. The ap325rxa board file registers another camera (ncm03j) for which I found no driver in mainline kernel version, and that was configured/probed by sending i2c messages (of 'magic blobs) from the board file itself. I removed the sensor registration from this new version as it used soc_camera components that will be later removed. While at there update license to SPDX header and sort headers alphabetically. perf/hw_breakpoint: Pass arch breakpoint struct to arch_check_bp_in_kernelspace()
We can't pass the breakpoint directly on arch_check_bp_in_kernelspace() anymore because its architecture internal datas (struct arch_hw_breakpoint) are not yet filled by the time we call the function, and most implementation need this backend to be up to date. So arrange the function to take the probing struct instead. Some of the atomics return the result of a test applied after the atomic operation, and almost all architectures implement these as trivial wrappers around the underlying atomic. Specifically: * <atomic>_inc_and_test(v) is (<atomic>_inc_return(v) == 0) * <atomic>_dec_and_test(v) is (<atomic>_dec_return(v) == 0) * <atomic>_sub_and_test(i, v) is (<atomic>_sub_return(i, v) == 0) * <atomic>_add_negative(i, v) is (<atomic>_add_return(i, v) < 0) Rather than have these definitions duplicated in all architectures, with minor inconsistencies in formatting and documentation, let's make these operations optional, with default fallbacks as above. Implementations must now provide a preprocessor symbol. The instrumented atomics are updated accordingly. Both x86 and m68k have custom implementations, which are left as-is, given preprocessor symbols to avoid being overridden. There should be no functional change as a result of this patch. Several architectures these have a near-identical implementation based on atomic_read() and atomic_cmpxchg() which we can instead define in <linux/atomic.h>, so let's do so, using something close to the existing x86 implementation with try_cmpxchg(). Where an architecture provides its own atomic_fetch_add_unless(), it must define a preprocessor symbol for it. The instrumented atomics are updated accordingly. Note that arch/arc's existing atomic_fetch_add_unless() had redundant barriers, as these are already present in its atomic_cmpxchg() implementation. There should be no functional change as a result of this patch. atomics/treewide: Rename __atomic_add_unless() => atomic_fetch_add_unless()
While __atomic_add_unless() was originally intended as a building-block for atomic_add_unless(), it's now used in a number of places around the kernel. It's the only common atomic operation named __atomic*(), rather than atomic_*(), and for consistency it would be better named atomic_fetch_add_unless(). This lack of consistency is slightly confusing, and gets in the way of scripting atomics. Given that, let's clean things up and promote it to an official part of the atomics API, in the form of atomic_fetch_add_unless(). bpf/error-inject/kprobes: Clear current_kprobe and enable preempt in kprobe
Clear current_kprobe and enable preemption in kprobe even if pre_handler returns !0. This simplifies function override using kprobes. Jprobe used to require to keep the preemption disabled and keep current_kprobe until it returned to original function entry. For this reason kprobe_int3_handler() and similar arch dependent kprobe handers checks pre_handler result and exit without enabling preemption if the result is !0. After removing the jprobe, Kprobes does not need to keep preempt disabled even if user handler returns !0 anymore. But since the function override handler in error-inject and bpf is also returns !0 if it overrides a function, to balancing the preempt count, it enables preemption and reset current kprobe by itself. That is a bad design that is very buggy. This fixes such unbalanced preempt-count and current_kprobes setting in kprobes, bpf and error-inject. Note: for powerpc and x86, this removes all preempt_disable from kprobe_ftrace_handler because ftrace callbacks are called under preempt disabled. Kbuild: rename CC_STACKPROTECTOR[_STRONG] config variables
The changes to automatically test for working stack protector compiler support in the Kconfig files removed the special STACKPROTECTOR_AUTO option that picked the strongest stack protector that the compiler supported. That was all a nice cleanup - it makes no sense to have the AUTO case now that the Kconfig phase can just determine the compiler support directly. HOWEVER. It also meant that doing "make oldconfig" would now _disable_ the strong stackprotector if you had AUTO enabled, because in a legacy config file, the sane stack protector configuration would look like CONFIG_HAVE_CC_STACKPROTECTOR=y # CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR_NONE is not set # CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR_REGULAR is not set # CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR_STRONG is not set CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR_AUTO=y and when you ran this through "make oldconfig" with the Kbuild changes, it would ask you about the regular CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR (that had been renamed from CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR_REGULAR to just CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR), but it would think that the STRONG version used to be disabled (because it was really enabled by AUTO), and would disable it in the new config, resulting in: CONFIG_HAVE_CC_STACKPROTECTOR=y CONFIG_CC_HAS_STACKPROTECTOR_NONE=y CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR=y # CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR_STRONG is not set CONFIG_CC_HAS_SANE_STACKPROTECTOR=y That's dangerously subtle - people could suddenly find themselves with the weaker stack protector setup without even realizing. The solution here is to just rename not just the old RECULAR stack protector option, but also the strong one. This does that by just removing the CC_ prefix entirely for the user choices, because it really is not about the compiler support (the compiler support now instead automatially impacts _visibility_ of the options to users). This results in "make oldconfig" actually asking the user for their choice, so that we don't have any silent subtle security model changes. The end result would generally look like this: CONFIG_HAVE_CC_STACKPROTECTOR=y CONFIG_CC_HAS_STACKPROTECTOR_NONE=y CONFIG_STACKPROTECTOR=y CONFIG_STACKPROTECTOR_STRONG=y CONFIG_CC_HAS_SANE_STACKPROTECTOR=y where the "CC_" versions really are about internal compiler infrastructure, not the user selections. The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This patch replaces cases of: kzalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kcalloc(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. mm: introduce ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL
Currently the PTE special supports is turned on in per architecture header files. Most of the time, it is defined in arch/*/include/asm/pgtable.h depending or not on some other per architecture static definition. This patch introduce a new configuration variable to manage this directly in the Kconfig files. It would later replace __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL. Here notes for some architecture where the definition of __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL is not obvious: arm __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL which is currently defined in arch/arm/include/asm/pgtable-3level.h which is included by arch/arm/include/asm/pgtable.h when CONFIG_ARM_LPAE is set. So select ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL if ARM_LPAE. powerpc __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL is defined in 2 files: - arch/powerpc/include/asm/book3s/64/pgtable.h - arch/powerpc/include/asm/pte-common.h The first one is included if (PPC_BOOK3S & PPC64) while the second is included in all the other cases. So select ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL all the time. sparc: __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL is defined if defined(__sparc__) && defined(__arch64__) which are defined through the compiler in sparc/Makefile if !SPARC32 which I assume to be if SPARC64. So select ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL if SPARC64 There is no functional change introduced by this patch. Kconfig updates for v4.18
Kconfig now supports new functionality to perform textual substitution. It has been a while since Linus suggested to move compiler option tests from makefiles to Kconfig. Finally, here it is. The implementation has been generalized into a Make-like macro language. Some built-in functions such as 'shell' are provided. It is clear from inspection that do_divide_error is only called with
TRAP_DIVZERO_ERROR or TRAP_DIVOVF_ERROR, as that is the way

This removes the warning and let's the code continue to build.

kconfig: reference environment variables directly and remove 'option env='
To get access to environment variables, Kconfig needs to define a symbol using "option env=" syntax. It is tedious to add a symbol entry for each environment variable given that we need to define much more such as 'CC', 'AS', 'srctree' etc. to evaluate the compiler capability in Kconfig. Adding '$' for symbol references is grammatically inconsistent. Looking at the code, the symbols prefixed with 'S' are expanded by: - conf_expand_value() This is used to expand 'arch/$ARCH/defconfig' and 'defconfig_list' - sym_expand_string_value() This is used to expand strings in 'source' and 'mainmenu' All of them are fixed values independent of user configuration. So, they can be changed into the direct expansion instead of symbols. This change makes the code much cleaner. The bounce symbols 'SRCARCH', 'ARCH', 'SUBARCH', 'KERNELVERSION' are gone. sym_init() hard-coding 'UNAME_RELEASE' is also gone. 'UNAME_RELEASE' should be replaced with an environment variable. ARCH_DEFCONFIG is a normal symbol, so it should be simply referenced without '$' prefix. The new syntax is addicted by Make. The variable reference needs parentheses, like $(FOO), but you can omit them for single-letter variables, like $F. Yet, in Makefiles, people tend to use the parenthetical form for consistency / clarification. At this moment, only the environment variable is supported, but I will extend the concept of 'variable' later on. The variables are expanded in the lexer so we can simplify the token handling on the parser side. For example, the following code works. softirq/sh: Use nmi_count() on /proc/interrupts print out
Use nmi_count() instead of accessing directly the irq_stat structure. Its implementation is going to change to use per-CPU, so defer the guts to standard API instead. dma-mapping: move the NEED_DMA_MAP_STATE config symbol to lib/Kconfig
This way we have one central definition of it, and user can select it as needed. Note that we now also always select it when CONFIG_DMA_API_DEBUG is select, which fixes some incorrect checks in a few network drivers. dma-debug: move initialization to common code
Most mainstream architectures are using 65536 entries, so lets stick to that. If someone is really desperate to override it that can still be done through <asm/dma-mapping.h>, but I'd rather see a really good rationale for that. dma_debug_init is now called as a core_initcall, which for many architectures means much earlier, and provides dma-debug functionality earlier in the boot process. This should be safe as it only relies on the memory allocator already being available.
