This branch contains updates to OMAP and Marvell platforms (kirkwood, dove, mvebu) that came in after we had done the big multiplatform merges, so they were kept separate from the rest, and not separated into the traditional topics of cleanup/driver/platform features. pwm: dt: Fix description of second PWM cell
The second cell in the PWM specifier denotes the period in nanoseconds, not the duty cycle. The latter can be freely configured at runtime and a PWM with a fixed duty cycle would be rather pointless. Pull media updates from Mauro Carvalho Chehab: "The first part of the media updates for Kernel 3.7. This series contain: - A major tree renaming patch series: now, drivers are organized internally by their used bus, instead of by V4L2 and/or DVB API, providing a cleaner driver location for hybrid drivers that implement both APIs, and allowing to cleanup the Kconfig items and make them more intuitive for the end user; - Media Kernel developers are typically very lazy with their duties of keeping the MAINTAINERS entries for their drivers updated. As now the tree is more organized, we're doing an effort to add/update those entries for the drivers that aren't currently orphan; - Several DVB USB drivers got moved to a new DVB USB v2 core; the new core fixes several bugs (as the existing one that got bitroted). Now, suspend/resume finally started to work fine (at least with some devices - we should expect more work with regards to it); - added multistream support for DVB-T2, and unified the API for DVB-S2 and ISDB-S. Backward binary support is preserved; - as usual, a few new drivers, some V4L2 core improvements and lots of drivers improvements and fixes. There are some points to notice on this series: 1) you should expect a trivial merge conflict on your tree, with the removal of Documentation/feature-removal-schedule.txt: this series would be adding two additional entries there. I opted to not rebase it due to this recent change; 2) With regards to the PCTV 520e udev-related breakage, I opted to fix it in a way that the patches can be backported to 3.5 even without your firmware fix patch. This way, Greg doesn't need to rush backporting your patch (as there are still the firmware cache and firmware path customization issues to be addressed there). I'll send later a patch (likely after the end of the merge window) reverting the rest of the DRX-K async firmware request, fully restoring its original behaviour to allow media drivers to initialize everything serialized as before for 3.7 and upper. 3) I'm planning to work on this weekend to test the DMABUF patches for V4L2. The patches are on my queue for several Kernel cycles, but, up to now, there is/was no way to test the series locally. I have some concerns about this particular changeset with regards to security issues, and with regards to the replacement of the old VIDIOC_OVERLAY ioctl's that is broken on modern systems, due to GPU drivers change. The Overlay API allows direct PCI2PCI transfers from a media capture card into the GPU framebuffer, but its API is crappy. Also, the only existing X11 driver that implements it requires a XV extension that is not available anymore on modern drivers. The DMABUF can do the same thing, but with it is promising to be a properly-designed API. The Xen-unstable hypervisor (so will be 4.3 in a ~6 months), supports ARMv7 platforms. The goal in implementing this architecture is to exploit the hardware as much as possible. That means use as little as possible of PV operations (so no PV MMU) - and use existing PV drivers for I/Os (network, block, console, etc). This is similar to how PVHVM guests operate in X86 platform nowadays - except that on ARM there is no need for QEMU. The end result is that we share a lot of the generic Xen drivers and infrastructure. ACPI: Add new sysfs interface to export device description
Add support to export the device description obtained from the ACPI _STR method, if one exists for a device, to user-space via a sysfs interface. This new interface provides a standard and platform neutral way for users to obtain the description text stored in the ACPI _STR method. If no _STR method exists for the device, no sysfs 'description' file will be created. The 'description' file will be located in the /sys/devices/ directory using the device's path. /sys/device/<bus>/<bridge path>/<device path>.../firmware_node/description Example: /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00.07.0/0000:0e:00.0/firmware_node/description It can also be located using the ACPI device path, for example: /sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/device:00/ACPI0004:00/PNP0A08:00/device:13/device:15/description /sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/device:00/ACPI0004:00/ACPI0004:01/ACPI0007:02/description Execute the 'cat' command on the 'description' file to obtain the description string for that device. coredump: add support for %d=__get_dumpable() in core name
Some coredump handlers want to create a core file in a way compatible with standard behavior. Standard behavior with fs.suid_dumpable = 2 is to create core file with uid=gid=0. However, there was no way for coredump handler to know that the process being dumped was suid'ed. This patch adds the new %d specifier for format_corename() which simply reports __get_dumpable(mm->flags), this is compatible with /proc/sys/fs/suid_dumpable we already have. rtc-proc: permit the /proc/driver/rtc device to use other devices
To get time information via /proc/driver/rtc, only the first device (rtc0) is used. If the rtcN (eg. rtc1 or rtc2) is used for the system clock, there is no way to get information of rtcN via /proc/driver/rtc. With this patch, the time data can be retrieved from the system clock RTC. If the RTC_HCTOSYS_DEVICE is not defined, then rtc0 is used by default. This is a pretty significant branch. It's the introduction of the first multiplatform support on ARM, and with this (and the later branch) merged, it is now possible to build one kernel that contains support for highbank, vexpress, mvebu, socfpga, and picoxcell. More platforms will be convered over in the next few releases. NFS: Add nfs4_unique_id boot parameter
An optional boot parameter is introduced to allow client administrators to specify a string that the Linux NFS client can insert into its nfs_client_id4 id string, to make it both more globally unique, and to ensure that it doesn't change even if the client's nodename changes. If this boot parameter is not specified, the client's nodename is used, as before. Client installation procedures can create a unique string (typically, a UUID) which remains unchanged during the lifetime of that client instance. This works just like creating a UUID for the label of the system's root and boot volumes. Get rid of Documentation/feature-removal.txt
This file has turned out to be a pure write-only file that causes merge conflicts and has no actual redeeming features. There is never any reason to add stuff to this idiotic file. Either something isn't getting used, and you should just remove it, or there is no excuse for removing it in the first place. Just stop the idiocy. It has also been the excuse for just plain bad behavior ("Hey, I don't like xyz, so let's mark it for removal" followed by "Hey, look, it been in feature-removal.txt for six months now, so we should remove it"). The recent bogus setitimer() ABI change request was just the most recent example of pointless and incorrect mental masturbation involving this file, and I'm tired of the silly and pointless conflicts in the file. This removal was discussed during the recent kernel summit, and while Steven Rostedt suggested we should just enter the file itself in the feature-removal schedule (to see if anybody who edits the file actually looks at it), that's cute but non-productive. USB merge for 3.7-rc1
Here is the big USB pull request for 3.7-rc1
There are lots of gadget driver changes (including copying a bunch of
files into the drivers/staging/ccg/ directory so that the other gadget
drivers can be fixed up properly without breaking that driver), and we
remove the old obsolete ub.c driver from the tree. There are also the
usual XHCI set of updates, and other various driver changes and updates.
We also are trying hard to remove the old dbg() macro, but the final
bits of that removal will be coming in through the networking tree
before we can delete it for good.
All of these patches have been in the linux-next tree.

rbd: add an rbd features field
Record the features values for each rbd image and each of its snapshots. This is really something that only becomes meaningful for version 2 images, so this is just putting in place code that will form common infrastructure. It may be useful to expand the sysfs entries--and therefore the information we maintain--for the image and for each snapshot. New format 2 rbd images are permanently identified by a unique image id. Each rbd image also has a name, but the name can be changed. A format 2 rbd image will have an object--whose name is based on the image name--which maps an image's name to its image id. Create a new function rbd_dev_image_id() that checks for the existence of the image id object, and if it's found, records the image id in the rbd_device structure. Create a new rbd device attribute (/sys/bus/rbd/<num>/image_id) that makes this information available. TTY merge for 3.7-rc1
As we skipped the merge window for 3.6-rc1 for the tty tree, everything is now settled down and working properly, so we are ready for 3.7-rc1. Here's the patchset, it's big, but the large changes are removing a firmware file and adding a staging tty driver (it depended on the tty core changes, so it's going through this tree instead of the staging tree.) Staging tree update for 3.7-rc1
Here is the big staging tree update for the 3.7-rc1 merge window. There are a few patches in here that are outside of the staging area, namely HID and IIO patches, but all of them have been acked by the relevant subsystem maintainers. The IIO stuff is still coming in through this tree as it hasn't entirely moved out of the staging tree, but is almost there. Other than that, there wa a ton of work on the comedi drivers to make them more readable and the correct style. Doing that removed a lot of code, but we added a new driver to the staging tree, so we didn't end up with a net reduction this time around: 662 files changed, 51649 insertions(+), 26582 deletions(-) All of these patches have been in the linux-next tree already. (Work is in progress to port this to a few other architectures, but is not part of this series.) 1. A fix for a latent bug that has been in RCU ever since the addition of CPU stall warnings. This bug results in false-positive stall warnings, but thus far only on embedded systems with severely cut-down userspace configurations. 2. This is a large change, as it moves RCU grace-period initialization and cleanup, along with quiescent-state forcing, from softirq to a kthread. pinctrl: add bcm2835 driver
The BCM2835 GPIO module is a combined GPIO controller, (GPIO) interrupt controller, and pinmux/control device. Original driver by Simon Arlott. Rewrite including GPIO chip device by Chris Boot. Upstreaming changes by Stephen Warren: * Wrote DT binding documentation. * Changed brcm,function to an integer to more directly match the datasheet, and to match brcm,pins being an integer. * Implemented pull-up/down pin config. * Removed read-only DT property and related code. The restriction this implemented are driven by the board, not the GPIO HW block, so don't really make sense of a HW block binding, were in general incomplete (since they could only know about the few pins hard-coded into the Raspberry Pi B board design and not the uncommitted GPIOS), and are better represented simply by not writing incorrect data into pin configuration nodes. * Don't set GPIO_IN function select in gpio_request_enable() to avoid glitches; defer this to gpio_set_direction(). Consequently, removed empty bcm2835_pmx_gpio_request_enable(). * Simplified enabled_irq_map[]; make it explicitly 1 entry per bank. * Lifted use of enabled_irq_map[] outside the per-interrupt loop in IRQ handler, thus fixing an issue where the code was indexing into enabled_irq_map[] by intra-bank GPIO ID, not global GPIO ID. * Removed locking in IRQ handler, since all other code uses spin_lock_irqsave() and so guarantees it doesn't run concurrently with the handler. * Moved duplicated BUILD_BUG_ON()s into probe(). Also check size of bcm2835_gpio_pins[]. * Remove range-checking from bcm2835_pctl_get_groups_count() since we've decided to trust the pinctrl core. * Made bcm2835_pmx_gpio_disable_free() call bcm2835_pinctrl_fsel_set() directly for simplicity. * Fixed body of dt_free_map() to match latest dt_node_to_map(). * Removed GPIO ownership check from bcm2835_pmx_enable() since the pinctrl core owns doing this. * Made irq_chip and pinctrl_gpio_range .name == MODULE_NAME so it's more descriptive. * Simplified remove(); removed call to non-existent pinctrl_remove_gpio_range(), remove early return on error. * Don't force gpiochip's base to 0. Set gpio_range.base to gpiochip's base GPIO number. * Error-handling cleanups in probe(). * Switched to module_platform_driver() rather than open-coding. * Made pin, group, and function names lower-case. * s/broadcom/brcm/ in DT property names. * s/2708/2835/. * Fixed a couple minor checkpatch warnings, and other minor cleanup.
