Levente Kurusa 54f5968db9 drivers/video/backlight/lcd.c: call put_device if device_register fails
Currently we kfree the container of the device which failed to register.
This is wrong as the last reference is not given up with a put_device
call. Also, now that we have put_device() callen, we no longer need the
kfree as the new_ld->dev.release function will take care of kfreeing the
associated memory.

- FIFO event channels. Key advantages: support for over 100,000 events (2^17),
16 different event priorities, improved fairness in event latency through
    the use of FIFOs.
  - Xen PVH support. "It’s a fully PV kernel mode, running with paravirtualized

of any kind (and thus no qemu), no BIOS or legacy boot — but instead of

  - Fixes in balloon driver (refactor and make it work under ARM)
  - Allow xenfb to be used in HVM guests.

Merge tag 'stable/for-linus-3.14-rc0-tag' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/xen/tip

Pull Xen updates from Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk:
"Two major features that Xen community is excited about:

The first is event channel scalability by David Vrabel - we switch
over from an two-level per-cpu bitmap of events (IRQs) - to an FIFO
queue with priorities. This lets us be able to handle more events,
have lower latency, and better scalability. Good stuff.

The other is PVH by Mukesh Rathor. In short, PV is a mode where the
kernel lets the hypervisor program page-tables, segments, etc. With
EPT/NPT capabilities in current processors, the overhead of doing this
in an HVM (Hardware Virtual Machine) container is much lower than the
  hypervisor doing it for us.

In short we let a PV guest run without doing page-table, segment,
syscall, etc updates through the hypervisor - instead it is all done
within the guest container. It is a "hybrid" PV - hence the 'PVH'
name - a PV guest within an HVM container.

The major benefits are less code to deal with - for example we only
use one function from the the pv_mmu_ops (which has 39 function
calls); faster performance for syscall (no context switches into the
hypervisor); less traps on various operations; etc.

It is still being baked - the ABI is not yet set in stone. But it is
pretty awesome and we are excited about it.

Lastly, there are some changes to ARM code - you should get a simple
conflict which has been resolved in #linux-next.

In short, this pull has awesome features.

  Features:
   - FIFO event channels. Key advantages: support for over 100,000
events (2^17), 16 different event priorities, improved fairness in
event latency through the use of FIFOs.

Olaf Hering f5d2b7c28b fbmem: really support wildcard video=options for all fbdev drivers
Documentation/fb/modedb.txt states that video=option should be
considered a global option. But video_setup and fb_get_options are not
coded that way. Instead its required to boot with video=driver:option to
set a given option in drvier. This is cumbersome because it requires to
know in advance which driver will be active for a given board/kernel.

The following patch implements the documented catchall for the fbdev
drivers. It is now possible to boot with video=XxY without the need to
know the active driver in advance. The specific case it tries to fix is
syslinux in the SUSE installer which offers a menu to set a display
resolution. Right now this just appends the vga= option the kernel. But
in addition to vga= it should be possible to pass a generic video=XxY
for all framebuffer/drm drivers. With this change forcing a certain
window size of VM displays is now much easier.

Today the video= option is stored in a global fb_mode_option. But
unfortunately only drm uses it.

Note: this change introduces a small memleak if video=option is actually
used because fb_mode_option is const. Most drivers use strsep to get to
individual options. This could be fixed in a followup patch which always
releases the option string in every caller of fb_get_options.

Mark Brown ee23794b86 video: vgacon: Don't build on arm64
arm64 is unlikely to have a VGA console and does not export screen_info
causing build failures if the driver is build, for example in all*config.
Add a dependency on !ARM64 to prevent this.

which architectures that do support the driver can select.

Lothar Waßmann 838bdf723b video: mxsfb: fix broken videomode selection
Currently the driver re-implements the code found in of_get_videomode()
except for the fact that the latter honors the 'native-mode' property
to select a spcific video timing from the list of possible timings.
The driver builds up a list of all video timings, but uses only the
last mode from the list anyway. While building the list it incorrectly
OR's the 'pixelclk-active' and 'de-active' flags of all modes into
single flags, possibly leading to a wrong pixelclock or data-enable
polarity setting.

Fix this by using the of_get_videomode() directly with the
OF_USE_NATIVE_MODE flag.

Since all current dts files only have one entry in their
display-timings node, this bug was not apparent and the fix does not
change the driver's behaviour for the current users.

synclost errors in OMAP3 introduces limits check to prevent SYNCLOST errors
on OMAP3. However, it misses the logic found in Nokia kernels that is
needed to correctly calculate whether 3 tap or 5 tap rescaler to be used as
well as the logic to fallback to 3 taps if 5 taps clock results in too
tight horizontal timings. Without that patch "horizontal timing too tight"

Archit Taneja 8bc655521b OMAPDSS: DISPC: Preload more data in pipeline DMAs for OMAP4+ SoCs
DISPC pipeline DMAs preload some bytes of pixel data in the vertical blanking
region before the start of each frame. The preload ensures the pipeline doesn't
underflow when the active region of the display starts.

DISPC_GFX/VIDp_PRELOAD registers allow us to program how many bytes of data
should be preloaded for each pipeline. Calculating a precise preload value
would be a complex function of the pixel clock of the connected display, the
vertical blanking duration and the interconnect traffic at that instance. If
the register is left untouched, a default value is preloaded.

We observe underflows for OMAP4+ SoCs for certain bandwidth intensive use cases
with many other initiators active, and in situations where memory access isn't
very efficient(like accessing Tiler mapped buffers and EMIF configured in
non-interleaved more). The cause of the underflow is because the default preload
value isn't sufficient for the DMA to reach a steady state. We configure the
PRELOAD register such that the pipelines preload data up to the high threshold
of the FIFO.

Preloading lot of data for older SoCs can have a negative impact. Due to slower
interconnects, it's possible that the DISPC DMA cannot preload up to the high
threshold within the vertical blanking region of the panel. We leave the PRELOAD
registers to their reset values since we haven't faced underflows with these
SoCs because of low value of PRELOAD.

Tomi Valkeinen b52a6e7fb6 OMAPFB: disable overlays on driver removal
When omapfb module is removed, the driver will turn off all the displays
it manages. However, it leaves the overlays enabled. While the overlays
are obviously disabled as the displays are disabled, it causes issues
when the driver module is loaded again, as at that point the overlays
are still enabled on the hardware level. The result is that even if the
SW thinks overlays are disabled, they are actually enabled.

Fix this by making sure the overlays are disabled at module removal.

Nowadays it's normal to get -EPROBE_DEFER from, e.g., regulator_get. As
-EPROBE_DEFER is not really an error, and the driver will be probed fine

It is quite common to have omapfb probe deferred because of a missing

Tomi Valkeinen 68104467ec OMAPDSS: DSI: split DSI memory map to smaller blocks
DSI contains three separate blocks: protocol engine, PHY and PLL. At the
moment, all these are memory mapped in one big chunk. We need to split
that memory map into smaller pieces so that we can add proper 'reg'
properties into the DT data for each block.

This patch changes the driver to map the blocks separately. It first
tries to get the memory resource using name, used when booting with DT,
and if that fails, it gets the memory resource by ID, in which case the
driver gets the big chunk from platform data. That big chunk is then
split into the smaller blocks manually.

After DSS DT code has been merged and the old platform code removed, we
can clean up the memory resource management.

Instead of changing the driver in all the places where a register is
read or written, this patch takes a shortcut: it adds an additional
number to the struct which represents the register index. This number is
used to decide which base address to use. In the future we should
consider other approaches.

hdmi_wait_for_bit_change() has two issues:

The register index was passed as u16, even if the register index may be
u32. Fix the index to u32.

The function was copied from wait_for_bit_change() which waits for a
single bit to change, but the hdmi version was changed to wait for a bit
field. This change was not done correctly.

The function is supposed to return the (last) value of the bit field,

bit version, but not for the hdmi version. Fix the function to return

Tomi Valkeinen 6da9f89172 drm/omap: fix (un)registering irqs inside an irq handler
omapdrm (un)registers irqs inside an irq handler. The problem is that
the (un)register function uses dispc_runtime_get/put() to enable the
clocks, and those functions are not irq safe by default.

This was kind of fixed in 48664b21ae
(OMAPDSS: DISPC: set irq_safe for runtime PM), which makes dispc's
runtime calls irq-safe.

However, using pm_runtime_irq_safe in dispc makes the parent of dispc,
dss, always enabled, effectively preventing PM for the whole DSS module.

This patch makes omapdrm behave better by adding new irq (un)register
functions that do not use dispc_runtime_get/put, and using those
functions in interrupt context. Thus we can make dispc again
non-irq-safe, allowing proper PM.

Tomi Valkeinen 7a53df2c08 OMAPDSS: apply fixes
When omapfb does ovl->get_overlay_info, ovl->set_overlay_info, the set
function may fail even if the info has not been changed. This is because
omapdss doesn't initialize the info, but expect the caller to set valid
values.

Normally that is the case, but there is at least one corner case: if
omapfb has not allocated memory for the overlay yet, and the user uses
ioctl to disable the overlay to make sure it's disabled. In this case
get_overlay_info returns invalid data, but the user is only interested
in setting the overlay to disabled, not configuring it, and
set_overlay_info fails.

The issue is made possible by the omapfb's setup_plane ioctl, which
groups overlay configuration and overlay enable/disable bit into the
same struct. Thus, when you are disabling an overlay, you are also
configuring it.

This is a bit counter intuitive, so I think it's better to initialize
the info to some valid values.

The fields requiring initialization are color_mode and rotation_type,
and also we need to remove the check for (paddr == 0), as paddr is 0 for
unallocated overlay (but it's still fine to disable the overlay).

ZTWO_VADDR() converts from physical to virtual I/O addresses, so it should

Tomi Valkeinen fc1fe6e794 OMAPDSS: add dedicated fck PLL support
This patch adds support for SoCs that have a dedicated DSS PLL used for
DSS function clock.

If there is no dss parent clock defined, it is presumed that the
functionl clock rate can be set (almost) freely. The code calculates the
highest allowed fck rate, which when divided with some integer gives the
required pck.

Tomi Valkeinen ada9443ff4 OMAPDSS: cleanup fck parent handling
The dss parent_clk_name currently points to a clock node which we use to
change the fclk rate. Now that we have CLK_SET_RATE_PARENT properly set,
we can set the rate directly to the fclk node.

However, we still need to calculate the possible clock rates. For this,
we need the rate of the parent of the current parent_clk.

To simplify the code, this patch changes the parent_clk_name to point to
the above mentioned parent, so that we can get the rate directly.

The driver considers OMAP2 DSS's functional clock as a fixed clock.
However, it can be changed, but the possible dividers are not continuous
which is why it was just handled as a fixed clock.

part of the dividers, from 1 to 6. This let's us handle the OMAP2 fck
the same way as fcks on other OMAPs.

Pull fbdev changes from Tomi Valkeinen:
"Nothing particularly stands out in this pull request. The biggest
part of the changes are cleanups.

Maybe one fix to mention is the "fb: reorder the lock sequence to fix
potential dead lock" which hopefully fixes the fb locking issues
  reported by multiple persons.

There are also a few commits that have changes to arch/arm/mach-at91
and arch/avr32, which have been acked by the maintainers"

Linus Torvalds 8ceafbfa91 Merge branch 'for-linus-dma-masks' of git://git.linaro.org/people/rmk/linux-arm
Pull DMA mask updates from Russell King:
"This series cleans up the handling of DMA masks in a lot of drivers,
fixing some bugs as we go.

Some of the more serious errors include:
   - drivers which only set their coherent DMA mask if the attempt to
     set the streaming mask fails.
   - drivers which test for a NULL dma mask pointer, and then set the
dma mask pointer to a location in their module .data section -
which will cause problems if the module is reloaded.

To counter these, I have introduced two helper functions:
   - dma_set_mask_and_coherent() takes care of setting both the
streaming and coherent masks at the same time, with the correct
error handling as specified by the API.
   - dma_coerce_mask_and_coherent() which resolves the problem of
drivers forcefully setting DMA masks. This is more a marker for
future work to further clean these locations up - the code which
creates the devices really should be initialising these, but to fix
that in one go along with this change could potentially be very
     disruptive.

The last thing this series does is prise away some of Linux's addition
to "DMA addresses are physical addresses and RAM always starts at
zero". We have ARM LPAE systems where all system memory is above 4GB
physical, hence having DMA masks interpreted by (eg) the block layers
as describing physical addresses in the range 0..DMAMASK fails on
these platforms. Santosh Shilimkar addresses this in this series; the
patches were copied to the appropriate people multiple times but were
  ignored.

Fixing this also gets rid of some ARM weirdness in the setup of the
max*pfn variables, and brings ARM into line with every other Linux
architecture as far as those go"

Linus Torvalds 21604cdcdc ARM: SoC cleanups for 3.13
This branch contains code cleanups, moves and removals for 3.13.

Qualcomm msm targets had a bunch of code removal for legacy non-DT
platforms. Nomadik saw more device tree conversions and cleanup of old
code. Tegra has some code refactoring, etc.

One longish patch series from Sebastian Hasselbarth changes the init_time
hooks and tries to use a generic implementation for most platforms,
since they were all doing more or less the same things.

Finally the "shark" platform is removed in this release. It's been
abandoned for a while and nobody seems to care enough to keep it
around. If someone comes along and wants to resurrect it, the removal
can easily be reverted and code brought back.

Beyond this, mostly a bunch of removals of stale content across the
 board, etc.

Dave Airlie 91915260ea Merge tag 'drm-intel-fixes-2013-11-07' of git://people.freedesktop.org/~danvet/drm-intel into drm-next
Bit a bit -fixes pull request in the merge window than usual dua to two
feauture-y things:
- Display CRCs are now enabled on all platforms, including the odd DP case
on gm45/vlv. Since this is a testing-only feature it should ever hurt,
but I figured it'll help with regression-testing -fixes. So I left it
in and didn't postpone it to 3.14.
- Display power well refactoring from Imre. Would have caused major pain
conflict with the bdw stage 1 patches if I'd postpone this to -next.
It's only an relatively small interface rework, so shouldn't cause pain.
It's also been in my tree since almost 3 weeks already.

That accounts for about two thirds of the pull, otherwise just bugfixes:
- vlv backlight fix from Jesse/Jani
- vlv vblank timestamp fix from Jesse
- improved edp detection through vbt from Ville (fixes a vlv issue)
- eDP vdd fix from Paulo
- fixes for dvo lvds on i830M
- a few smaller things all over

Note: This contains a backmerge of v3.12. Since the -internal branch
always applied on top of -nightly I need that unified base to merge bdw
patches. So you'll get a conflict with radeon connector props when pulling
this (and nouveau/master will also conflict a bit when Ben doesn't
rebase). The backmerge itself only had conflicts in drm/i915.

There's also a tiny conflict between Jani's backlight fix and your sysfs
lifetime fix in drm-next.

Helge Deller 0219132fe7 parisc: sticon - unbreak on 64bit kernel
STI text console (sticon) was broken on 64bit machines with more than
4GB RAM and this lead in some cases to a kernel crash.

Since sticon uses the 32bit STI API it needs to keep pointers to memory
below 4GB. But on a 64bit kernel some memory regions (e.g. the kernel
stack) might be above 4GB which then may crash the kernel in the STI
functions.

Additionally sticon didn't selected the built-in framebuffer fonts by
default. This is now fixed.

On a side-note: Theoretically we could enhance the sticon driver to
use the 64bit STI API. But - beside the fact that some machines don't
provide a 64bit STI ROM - this would just add complexity.

Linus Torvalds 0324e74534 Driver Core / sysfs patches for 3.13-rc1
Here's the big driver core / sysfs update for 3.13-rc1.

There's lots of dev_groups updates for different subsystems, as they all
get slowly migrated over to the safe versions of the attribute groups
(removing userspace races with the creation of the sysfs files.) Also
in here are some kobject updates, devres expansions, and the first round
of Tejun's sysfs reworking to enable it to be used by other subsystems
as a backend for an in-kernel filesystem.

framebuffer-destruction but rather during destruction of the
parent-device. In case of fbdev this might be too late, though.
remove_conflicting_framebuffer() may remove fbdev devices but keep the
parent device as it is.

Therefore, we now use plain ioremap() and unmap the framebuffer in the
fb_destroy() callback. Note that we must not free the device here as this
might race with the parent-device removal. Instead, we rely on
unregister_framebuffer() as barrier and we're safe.

Linus Torvalds 7314e613d5 Fix a few incorrectly checked [io_]remap_pfn_range() calls
Nico Golde reports a few straggling uses of [io_]remap_pfn_range() that

two of them to the helper, and comments about why the third one really
needs to continue to use remap_pfn_range(), and adds the missing size

James Bates 55aa42f2e6 efifb: prevent null-deref when iterating dmi_list
The dmi_list array is initialized using gnu designated initializers, and
therefore may contain fewer explicitly defined entries as there are
elements in it. This is because the enum above with M_xyz constants
contains more items than the designated initializer. Those elements not
explicitly initialized are implicitly set to 0.

Now efifb_setup() loops through all these array elements, and performs
a strcmp on each item. For non explicitly initialized elements this will
be a null pointer:

This patch swaps the check order in the if statement, thus checks first
whether dmi_list[i].base is null.

Mike Dunn 8f43e18e27 pwm-backlight: Allow for non-increasing brightness levels
Currently the driver assumes that the values specified in the

Add new wrapper funcs which can be used by other hdmi libraries like core, pll
and phy. Move some of the enums, structs and funcs related to the wrapper from
ti_hdmi_4xxx_ip.h to ti_hdmi.h. These will be shared amongst the omap4/5 hdmi
platform drivers and other libraries.

The old hdmi_wp_init() is removed since it didn't do anything. Timing parameters
like interlace, hsync_level and vsync_level weren't copied correctly before.
Those are copied correctly now.

The DT/hwmod information for hdmi doesn't split the address space according to
the required sub blocks. Keep the address offset and size information in the
driver for now. This will be removed when the driver gets the information
correctly from DT/hwmod.
