Use a standard framework to get the reference voltage. It is done that way
in the iio subsystem and it will simplify extending of the driver.
Structure mcp4725_platform_data is left undeleted because it used in the
next patch.
This change breaks the current users of the driver, but there is no
mainline user of struct mcp4725_platform_data.

Change in handling of the regulator description means that static
checkers correctly assume we could be using dereferenced pointer to the
regulator. In reality we will never get the -ENODEV error, as current
behavior flow does not predict it, because:
If the device tree or board file does not define suitable regulators for
the component, it will be substituted by a dummy regulator, or, if
regulators are disabled altogether, by stubs.

Commit 08e05d1fce ("ti-adc081c: Initial triggered buffer support") added
triggered buffer support but that also requires CONFIG_IIO_TRIGGERED_BUFFER,
otherwise we get errors from linker such as:

drivers/iio/adc/ti-adc081c.c:225: undefined reference to `iio_triggered_buffer_cleanup'
Fix these by explicitly selecting both CONFIG_IIO_TRIGGERED_BUFFER and

Here is the big staging and IIO driver pull request for 4.9-rc1.
There are a lot of patches in here, the majority due to the
drivers/staging/greybus/ subsystem being merged in with full development
history that went back a few years, in order to preserve the work that
those developers did over time. This was done the same way that btrfs
was merged into the tree, so all should be ok there.
Lots and lots of tiny cleanups happened in the tree as well, due to the
Outreachy application process and lots of other developers showing up
for the first time to clean code up. Along with those changes, we
deleted a wireless driver, and added a raspberrypi driver (currently
marked broken), and lots of new iio drivers.
Overall the tree still shrunk with more lines removed than added, about
10 thousand lines removed in total. Full details are in the very long
shortlog below.
All of this has been in the linux-next tree with no issues. There will
be some merge problems with other subsystem trees, but those are all
minor problems and shouldn't be hard to work out when they happen
(MAINTAINERS and some lustre build problems with the IB tree.)

"Right now there is a phone from Motorola shipping with this code (a
slightly older version, but the same tree), so even though Ara is not
alive in the same form, the functionality is happening. We are working
with the developers of that phone to merge the newer stuff in with
their fork so they can use the upstream version in future versions of
their phone product line.
Toshiba has at least one chip shipping in their catalog that
needs/uses this protocol over a Unipro link, and rumor has it that
there might be more in the future.
There are also other users of the greybus protocols, there is a talk
next week at ELC that shows how it is being used across a network
connection to control a device, and previous ELC talks have showed the
protocol stack being used over USB to drive embedded Linux boards.
I've also talked to some people who are starting to work to add a host
controller driver to control arduinos as the greybus PHY protocols are
very useful to control a serial/i2c/spio/whatever device across a
random physical link, as it is a way to have a self-describing device
be attached to a host without needing manual configuration.
So yes, people are using it, and there is still the chance that it
will show up in a phone/laptop/tablet/whatever from Google in the
future as well, the tech isn't dead, even if the original large phone

The ACCES 104-QUAD-8 is a general purpose quadrature encoder
counter/interface board. The 104-QUAD-8 is capable of monitoring the
outputs of eight encoders via four on-board LSI/CSI LS7266R1 24-bit
dual-axis quadrature counter chips. Core functions handled by the
LS7266R1, such as direction and total count, are available.
Performing a write to a counter's IIO_CHAN_INFO_RAW sets the counter and
also clears the counter's respective error flag. Although the counters
have a 25-bit range, only the lower 24 bits may be set, either directly
or via a counter's preset attribute. Interrupts are not supported by
this driver.
This driver adds IIO support for the ACCES 104-QUAD-8 and ACCES
104-QUAD-4. The base port addresses for the devices may be configured
via the base array module parameter.

devices which are capable of encoding the relative position and
direction of motion of a shaft. This patch introduces several IIO
constants for supporting quadrature encoder counter devices.

This patch adds minimal driver for the Honeywell Amplified Basic
Pressure sensors series. Sensors are pretty simple but are
available in many variants:
- psi/mbar/kPa output,
- analog/i2c/spi,
- gage/differential measurement,
- different measure ranges etc.

Driver internals:
- i2c only. measure request is done by the SMBUS QUICK cmd, so if the i2c
bus doesn't support it, it is required to send a dummy byte to trigger
measurement,
- since iio sysfs expects kilopascals, mbar-variants are treated as their
respective kPa-s, hence i2c id-table has doubled entries in one line:

- psi-variants have prescaled values in config,
- no temperature reads yet.

Driver was reporting invalid raw read values for MAX6675 on big
endian architectures. MAX6675 buffered mode is not affected, nor
is the MAX31855.
The driver was losing a 2 byte read value when it used a 32 bit
integer buffer to store a 16 bit big endian value. Use big endian
types to properly align buffers on big endian architectures.

Add support for the AD7766, AD7766-1, AD7766-2, AD7767, AD7767-1, AD7767-2
Analog to Digital converters. It's a family of single channel 24-bit SAR
ADCs. They are all digital interface compatible and the main difference is
the internal decimation rate and analog performance. For communication with
the host processor a SPI interface is used.
In addition the part has a data ready pin that is pulsed for one MCLK cycle
when a conversion has completed and can be used as a IIO trigger.

Some triggers can only be attached to the IIO device that corresponds to
the same physical device. Currently each driver that requires this
implements its own trigger validation function.
Introduce a new helper function called iio_trigger_validate_own_device()
that can be used to do this check. Having a common implementation avoids
code duplication and unnecessary boiler-plate code.

The use of an empty statement behind 'if (...)' is harmless here, but
it shows that the dev_dbg() macro is not used correctly: when the "DEBUG"
macro is not set, dev_dbg() already defaults to a no-operation, though
one that lets the compiler know that the arguments are used, and lets
it check the format string.
Fixing this also simplifies the driver.

This deploys runtime and system PM in the KXSD9 driver:
- Use the force_runtime_suspend/resume callbacks as system PM
operations.
- Add buffer prepare/unprepare callbacks to grab the runtime
PM while we're using buffered reads and put get/put_autosuspend

- Register the callbacks in both the SPI and I2C subdrivers.

What is passed to the .probe() and .remove() functions is
technically the parent of the created IIO device but it becomes
a big confusion for the head to have it named like this since
it is usually clear from context the "dev" refers to the physical
device, and when next adding PM callbacks a clean
"struct device *dev" pointer is passed to these and that makes
it even more confused. Rename "parent" to "dev" like in most
other drivers.

As is custom with all modern sensors, add a clever burst mode
that will just stream out values from the sensor and provide it
to userspace to do the proper offsetting and scaling.
This is the result when tested with an HRTimer trigger:

of ~9.81 (shaky due to bad calibration) along the z axis. The
fourth column is the AUX IN which is floating on this system,
it seems to float up to the 2.85V VDD voltage.
To be able to cleanup the triggered buffer, we need to add .remove()
callbacks to the I2C and SPI subdrivers and call back into an
exported .remove() callback in the core.

This fixes several errors in the offset and scaling of the raw
values from the KXSD9 sensor:
- The code did not convert the big endian value from the sensor
into the endianness of the host CPU. Fix this with
be16_to_cpu() on the raw obtained value.
- The code did not regard the fact that only the upper 12 bits of
the accelerometer values are valid. Shift these
down four bits to yield the real raw value.
- Further the sensor provides 2048 at zero g. This means that an
offset of 2048 must be subtracted from the raw value before
scaling. This was not taken into account by the driver,
yielding a weird value. Fix this by providing this offset in
sysfs.
To house the scaling code better, the value reading code was
factored into the raw reading function.
This proper scaling and offseting is necessary to get proper
values out of triggered buffer by offsetting, shifting and scaling
them.

This moves the KXSD9 SPI transport out to its own file and Kconfig
entry, so that we will be able to add another transport method.
We export the common probe and add a local header file for the
functionality shared between the main driver and the transport
driver.
We make the SPI transport the default for the driver if SPI is
available and the KXSD9 driver was selected, so the oldconfig
upgrade path will be clear.

The initial commit adding support for the mxc6225 assumed the
mxc6225 has a chip-id of 0xe5 based on testing on a single Allwinner
A23 tablet with a mxc6225. Testing on a bunch of other Allwinner
tablets have shown that the chip-id for the mxc6225 is not constant.
A datasheet for the MXC6255 which I've found online says that bits
7 and 6 of the chip-id register are undefined (for the mxc6255), testing
on 5 different tablets with a mxc6225 has found the following ids:
0x25, 0x45, 0x65, 0x85, 0xe5. So it seems that for the mxc6225 bits
7, 6 and 5 of the chip-id register are undefined.
This commit adjusts the chip-id check so that the mxc6255 driver
properly recognizes the mxc6225 in all these tablets.

The ST sensors can be used as a trigger for its own triggered buffer
but it is also possible to use an external trigger: a HRTimer or
even a different sensor (!) as trigger. In that case we should not
pick the timestamp from our own interrupt top half even if it is
active.
This could practically happen if some other sensor is using the
ST sensor as trigger but the ST sensor itself is using e.g.
an HRTimer as trigger. So the trigger is on, but not used by us.
We used to assume that whenever the hardware interrupt is turned
on, we are using it for our own trigger, but this is an
oversimplification.
Handle this logically by using the iio_trigger_using_own() helper.

This adds a helper function to the IIO trigger framework:
iio_trigger_using_own(): for an IIO device, this tells
whether the device is using itself as a trigger.
This is true if the indio device:
(A) supplies a trigger and
(B) has assigned its own buffer poll function to use this
trigger.
This helper function is good when constructing triggered,
buffered drivers that can either use its own hardware *OR*
an external trigger such as a HRTimer or even the trigger from
a totally different sensor.
Under such circumstances it is important to know for example
if the timestamp from the same trigger hardware should be used
when populating the buffer: if iio_trigger_using_own() is true,
we can use this timestamp, else we need to pick a unique
timestamp directly in the trigger handler.
For this to work of course IIO devices registering hardware
triggers must follow the convention to set the parent device
properly, as as well as setting the parent of the IIO device
itself.
When a new poll function is attached, we check if the parent
device of the IIO of the poll function is the same as the
parent device of the trigger and in that case we conclude that
the hardware is using itself as trigger.

iio_push_event() operates on a struct iio_dev. This struct can be allocated
using iio_device_alloc() which returns a valid struct iio_dev pointer. But
iio_push_event() is not safe to use on such a iio_dev until
iio_device_register() for the same device has successfully completed.
This restriction is not documented anywhere and most drivers are written
with the assumption that this restriction does not exist. The basic pattern
that is followed by all drivers looks like the following:

To avoid undefined behaviour in such a case extend iio_push_event() to
check if the event has been registered and discard generated events if it
has not.

a fix for a recent fix that was marked for stable.
Hence this fix series is perhaps a little more urgent than average for IIO.

- a fix for a fix in the last set. The recent fix for blocking ops when

value was not set - so initialise it to 0.

7985e7c100 ("iio: Introduce a new fractional value type") introduced a
new IIO_VAL_FRACTIONAL value type meant to represent rational type numbers
expressed by a numerator and denominator combination.
Formating of IIO_VAL_FRACTIONAL values relies upon do_div() usage. This
fails handling negative values properly since parameters are reevaluated
as unsigned values.
Fix this by using div_s64_rem() instead. Computed integer part will carry
properly signed value. Formatted fractional part will always be positive.

On newer components compatible with the at91sam9x5, the Touchscreen
Switches Closure Time or TSSCTIM value of the Touchscreen Mode Register is
not filled at all.
On some hardware, having no time indicated for it may lead to incoherent
values and jitter.
We fix this time to 10us as it is usually difficult to retrieve impedance
values from LCD manufacturers.

The explanation for this change is same as in that patch:
"Supplies are *not* optional (optional means that the supply is
optional in the electrical sense, not the software sense) so we need to
get the and enable them at all times.
If the device tree or board file does not define suitable regulators for
the component, it will be substituted by a dummy regulator, or, if
regulators are disabled altogether, by stubs. There is no need to use the
IS_ERR_OR_NULL() check that is considered harmful.

A recent fix to iio_buffer_read_first_n_outer removed ret from being set by
a return from wait_event_interruptible and also added a continue in a loop
which causes the variable ret to not be set when it reaches the end of the
loop. Fix this by initializing ret to zero.
Also remove extraneous white space at the end of the loop.

The largest thing here is deleting an obsolete driver,
drivers/misc/bh1780gli.c, as the functionality of it was replaced by an
iio driver a while ago. The other fixes are things that have been
reported, or reverts of broken stuff (the binder change). All of these

All the scaling of the KXSD9 involves multiplication with a
fraction number < 1.
However the scaling value returned from IIO_INFO_SCALE was
unpredictable as only the micros of the value was assigned, and
not the integer part, resulting in scaling like this:

In at least one known setup, the chip comes up in a state where reading
the chip ID returns garbage unless it's been reset, due to noise on the
wires during system boot.
All supported chips have the same reset method, and based on the
datasheets they all need 1.3 or 1.8ms to recover after reset. So, do
the conservative thing here and always reset the chip.

The Apex Embedded Systems STX104 features 16 channels of single-ended (8
channels of true differential) 16-bit analog input. Differential input
configuration may be selected via a physical jumper on the device.
Similarly, input polarity (unipolar/bipolar) is configured via a
physical jumper on the device.
Input gain selection is available to the user via software, thus
allowing eight possible input ranges: +-10V, +-5V, +-2.5V, +-1.25V,
0 to 10V, 0 to 5V, 0 to 2.5V, and 0 to 1.25V. Four input gain
configurations are supported: x1, x2, x4, and x8.
This ADC resolution is 16-bits (1/65536 of full scale). Analog input
samples are taken on software trigger; neither FIFO sampling nor
interrupt triggering is supported by this driver.
The Apex Embedded Systems STX104 is primarily an analog-to-digital
converter device. The STX104 IIO driver was initially placed in the DAC
directory because only the DAC portion of the STX104 was supported at
the time. Now that ADC support has been added to the STX104 IIO driver,
the driver should be moved to the more appropriate ADC directory.

There are times when an assigned trigger to a device shouldn't ever
change after intialization.
Examples of this being used is when an provider device has a trigger
that is assigned to an ADC, which uses it populate data into a callback
buffer.

This adds Texas Instruments' ADC12130/ADC12132/ADC12138 12-bit plus
sign ADC driver. I have tested with the ADC12138. The ADC12130 and
ADC12132 are not tested but these are similar to ADC12138 except that
the mode programming instruction is a bit different.

A small rework of the PM code in this driver introduced a harmless
warning when CONFIG_PM_SLEEP is not set:

These sensors all have Vdd and Vdd_IO lines. This means the
supplies are *not* optional (optional means that the supply is
optional in the electrical sense, not the software sense)
so we need to get the and enable them at all times.
If the device tree or board file does not define suitable
regulators for the component, it will be substituted by a
dummy regulator, or, if regulators are disabled altogether,
by stubs. There is no need to use the IS_ERR_OR_NULL() check
that is considered harmful.

Adds basic support for the LTC2485 ADC - a delta-sigma analog-to-digital
converter with an I2C interface that operates in single shot conversion
mode.
The driver supports an on board 5V reference and the power-on default
configuration which rejects both 50hz & 60hz line frequencies and
operates in 1x speed mode.

The comparison for devnr limits is off-by-one, the current check
allows 0 to AD5755_NUM_CHANNELS and the limit should be in fact
0 to AD5755_NUM_CHANNELS - 1. This can lead to an out of bounds
write to pdata->dac[devnr]. Fix this by replacing > with >= on the
comparison.

Any readings from the raw interface of the KXSD9 driver will
return an empty string, because it does not return

Some platforms power off sensor hubs during S3 suspend, which will require

Add Mediatek auxadc driver based on iio.
It will register a device in iio and support iio.
So thermal can read auxadc channel to sample data by iio device.
It is tested successfully on mt2701 platform.
Mt8173 and mt6577 platforms are not tested.
But the expectation is compatible.

Now that open delay and sample delay for each channel is configurable
via DT, the default IDLE_TIMEOUT value is not enough as this is
calculated based on hardcoded macros. This results in driver returning
EBUSY sometimes. Fix this by increasing the timeout
value based on maximum value possible to open delay and sample delays
for each channel.

It is possible that two or more ADC channels can be simultaneously
requested for raw samples, in which case there can be race in access to
FIFO data resulting in loss of samples.
If am335x_tsc_se_set_once() is called again from tiadc_read_raw(), when
ADC is still acquired to sample one of the channels, the second process
might be put into uninterruptible sleep state. Fix these issues, by
protecting FIFO access and channel configurations with a mutex. Since
tiadc_read_raw() might take anywhere between few microseconds to few
milliseconds to finish execution (depending on averaging and delay
values supplied via DT), its better to use mutex instead of spinlock.

The driver always assumes that an input device has been created when
reading channel 3. This causes a kernel panic when dereferencing
st->ts_input.
The change was introduced in
commit 84882b0603 ("iio: adc: at91_adc: Add support for touchscreens
without TSMR"). Earlier versions only entered that part of the if-else
statement if only the following flags are set:

Replace the i2c_smbus_read_byte commmands used to retrieve the sensor
data with an i2c_master_recv command.
The smbus read byte method fails because the device does not expect a
stop condition after sending the first byte. When we issue the second
read, we are getting the first byte again. Net effect is that of the 14
bits used for the measurement, the 8 most significant bits are correct,
the lower 6 are not.
None of the smbus read protocols follow the pattern this device requires
(S Addr Rd [A] Data [A] Data NA P), hence the switch to an i2c receive
transaction.
Applicable from original introduction of this driver, but will require
backporting due to churn in the code.

This adds a driver for the Asahi Kasei AK8974 and its sibling
AMI305 magnetometers. It was deployed on scale in 2009 on a
multitude of devices. It is distincly different from AK8973
and AK8975 and needs its own driver.
This patch is based on the long lost work of Samu Onkalo at Nokia,
who made a misc character device driver for the Maemo/MeeGo Nokia
devices, before the time of the IIO subsystem. It was mounted in e.g.
the Nokia N950, N8, N86, N97 etc. It is also mounted on the
ST-Ericsson HREF reference designs.
It works nicely in sysfs:

The data buffer for captured mode for the ad799x driver is allocated in the
update_scan_mode() callback. This callback is not set in the iio_info
struct for the ad7791/ad7995/ad7999, which means that the data buffer is
not allocated when a captured transfer is started. As a result the driver
crashes when the first sample is received. To fix this properly set the
update_scan_mode() callback.

The Measurement Computing CIO-DAC is a family of 16-bit and 12-bit
analog output devices. The analog outputs are from AD660BN/AD7237
converters with each output buffered by an OP-27. Voltage ranges are
configured via physical jumpers on the device.
This driver does not support the devices' simulataneous update mode; the
XFER jumper option should be deselected for all analog output channels.
This driver provides IIO support for the Measurement Computing CIO-DAC
family: CIO-DAC16, CIO-DAC08, and PC104-DAC06. The base port addresses
for the devices may be configured via the base array module parameter.

On the Cube i9 tablet, the ACPI id for the Kionix kxcj9 accelerometer is
"KIOX000A" (as can be seen in the DSDT of the Cube i9 tablet).
It is the same accelerometer, so only adding the ACPI id is needed.

fall back to a tight loop in the thread until we successfully clear the
interrupt. No harm is done if we never succeed in doing so. It's an odd
patch that has been through a lot of revisions to reach a consensus on how
to handle what is basically broken hardware (which the previous defaults
allowed to kind of work).
- Fix alignment to defined storagebytes boundaries.
- Ensure alignment of power of 2 byte boundaries. This has always in theory
been part of the ABI of IIO, but we missed a few that snuck in that need
fixing. The effect was minor as they were only followed by timestamp
channels which were correctly aligned,
- Add some docs to explain the gain calculations.
VCNL4000, VCNL4010 and VCNL4020 chips are fairly compatible from a software
point of view, added features are not yet supported by the driver
patch adds a check for the product ID and demotes the corresponding
dev_info() to dev_dbg()

mma8452_set_freefall_mode can return -ve value in case if
i2c_smbus_read_byte_data fails. This function is called from mma8452_probe,
and returning -ve value from probe indicates probe failure. Need to call
iio_triggered_buffer_cleanup & iio_trigger_cleanup in this case.

Time to finally kill off the venerable (it was one of my first drivers)
lis3l02dq driver in favour of adding support in the st sensors framework.
This does loose us the event support that driver always had, but I think
that will reappear at some point and in the meantime the maintenance
advantages of dropping the 'special' driver for this one part outweigh
the issues.
It's worth noting this part is ancient and I may well be the only person
who still has any on hardware running recent kernels.
It has a few 'quirks'.
- No WAI register so that just became optional.
- A BDU option that really does block updates. Completely.
Whatever you do, you don't get any more data with it set.
It is documented the same as more modern parts but I presume they
are actually clearing for updates after a read of both bytes!
- Fixed scale.
- It's too quick. Even at slowest rate (280Hz) I can't read out fast
enough on my board (stargate 2) to beat new data coming in. Linus'
repeat read patch doesn't help in this case. It just means I get 10
readings before dying... So in reality this will get used with
software triggers only unless someone has this long out of production
device on a quick board.

This patch adds support for MCP454x, MCP456x, MCP464x and MCP466x parts.
The main difference with currently supported parts (MCP453x and alike) is
the addition of a non-volatile memory in order to recall the wiper setting
at power-on. This feature is currently not supported and only the
volatile memory is used to set the wiper.

The filter frequency and sample rate have a fixed relationship.
Only the filter frequency is unique, however.
Currently the driver ignores the filter settings for 32 Hz and
64 Hz.
This patch adds the necessary callbacks to be able to configure
and read the filter setting from sysfs.

The calibration data is described as coming from an E2PROM and that
means it does not change. Just read it once at probe time and store
it in the device state container. Also toss the calibration data
into the entropy pool since it is device unique.

The PM280 has an internal standby-mode, but to really save power
we should shut the sensor down and disconnect the power. With
the proper .pm hooks we can enable both runtime and system power
management of the sensor. We use the *force callbacks from the
system PM hooks. When the sensor comes back we always reconfigure
it to make sure it is ready to roll as expected.

The first version of this sensor, BMP085, supports sending an
End-of-Conversion (EOC) interrupt. Add code to support this using
a completion, in a similar vein as drivers/misc/bmp085.c does.
Make sure to check that we are given a rising edge, because the
EOC line goes from low-to-high when the conversion is ready.

This patch mimics the SPI functionality found in the misc driver in
drivers/misc/bh085-spi.c to make it possible to reuse the existing
BMP280/BMP180/BMP085 driver with all clients of the other driver.
The adoption is straight-forward since like the other driver, it is
a simple matter of using regmap.
This driver is also so obviously inspired/copied from the old misc
driver in drivers/misc/bmp085.c that I just took the liberty to
add in the authors of the other drivers + self in the core driver
file.
The MISC driver also supports a variant named "BMP181" so include
that here to be complete in comparison to the old driver.
The bus mapping code for SPI was written by Akinobu Mita.

This creates a separate BMP280_I2C Kconfig entry that gets selected
by BMP280 for I2C transport. As we currently only support I2C
transport there is not much practical change other than getting
a separate object file (or module) for the I2C driver part. The
old Kconfig symbol BMP280 will still select the stuff we need so
that oldconfig and old defconfigs works fine.

This splits the BMP280 driver in three logical parts: the core driver
bmp280-core that only operated on a struct device * and a struct regmap *,
the regmap driver bmp280-regmap that can be shared between I2C and other
transports and the I2C module driver bmp280-i2c.
Cleverly bake all functionality into a single object bmp280.o so that
we still get the same module binary built for the device in the end,
without any fuzz exporting symbols to the left and right.

The BMP085/BMP180/BMP280 is supplied with two power sources:
VDDA (analog power) and VDDD (digital power). As these may come
from regulators (as on the APQ8060 Dragonboard) we need the driver
to attempt to fetch and enable these regulators.
We FAIL if we cannot: boards should either define:
- Proper regulators if present
- Define fixed regulators if power is hardwired to the component
- Rely on dummy regulators (will be present on all DT systems and
any boardfile system that calls regulator_has_full_constraints().

Leonard Crestez observed the following phenomenon: when using
hard interrupt triggers (the DRDY line coming out of an ST
sensor) sometimes a new value would arrive while reading the
previous value, due to latencies in the system.
We discovered that the ST hardware as far as can be observed
is designed for level interrupts: the DRDY line will be held
asserted as long as there are new values coming. The interrupt
handler should be re-entered until we're out of values to
handle from the sensor.
If interrupts were handled as occurring on the edges (usually
low-to-high) new values could appear and the line be held
asserted after that, and these values would be missed, the
interrupt handler would also lock up as new data was
available, but as no new edges occurs on the DRDY signal,
nothing happens: the edge detector only detects edges.
To counter this, do the following:
- Accept interrupt lines to be flagged as level interrupts
using IRQF_TRIGGER_HIGH and IRQF_TRIGGER_LOW. If the line
is marked like this (in the device tree node or ACPI
table or similar) it will be utilized as a level IRQ.
We mark the line with IRQF_ONESHOT and mask the IRQ
while processing a sample, then the top half will be
entered again if new values are available.
- If we are flagged as using edge interrupts with
IRQF_TRIGGER_RISING or IRQF_TRIGGER_FALLING: remove
IRQF_ONESHOT so that the interrupt line is not
masked while running the thread part of the interrupt.
This way we will never miss an interrupt, then introduce
a loop that polls the data ready registers repeatedly
until no new samples are available, then exit the
interrupt handler. This way we know no new values are
available when the interrupt handler exits and
new (edge) interrupts will be triggered when data arrives.
Take some extra care to update the timestamp in the poll
loop if this happens. The timestamp will not be 100%
perfect, but it will at least be closer to the actual
events. Usually the extra poll loop will handle the new
samples, but once in a blue moon, we get a new IRQ
while exiting the loop, before returning from the
thread IRQ bottom half with IRQ_HANDLED. On these rare
occasions, the removal of IRQF_ONESHOT means the
interrupt will immediately fire again.
- If no interrupt type is indicated from the DT/ACPI,
choose IRQF_TRIGGER_RISING as default, as this is necessary
for legacy boards.
Tested successfully on the LIS331DL and L3G4200D by setting
sampling frequency to 400Hz/800Hz and stressing the system:
extra reads in the threaded interrupt handler occurs.

This adds runtime PM support to the AK8975 driver. It solves two
problems:
- After reading the first value the chip was left in MODE_ONCE,
meaning (presumably) it may be consuming more power. Now the
runtime PM hooks kick in and set it to POWER_DOWN.
- Regulators were simply enabled and left on, making it
impossible to turn the power consuming regulators off because
of the increased refcount. We now disable the regulators at
autosuspend.
- We also handle system suspend: by using pm_runtime_force_suspend()
and pm_runtime_force_resume() from the system PM sleep hooks,
the runtime PM code is managing the power also for this case.
It is currently not completely optimal: when the system resumes
the AK8975 goes into active mode even if noone is going to use
it: currently the force calls need to be paired, but the runtime
PM people are working on making it possible to leave devices
runtime suspended when coming back from sleep.

IS_ERR_OR_NULL() should never be used with regulators because
a NULL pointer may be a perfectly valid dummy regulator
We should always succeed to fetch and enable a regulator, but
it may be a dummy. That is fine, so bail out for any real
errors or probe deferrals
Include the error code in the warning print so we know what
kind of problem we're dealing with (for example it is nice to
see if it is a probe deferral).
As we will bail out of probe if the regulator is erroneous,
just issue regulator_disable() on the poweroff path: it will
succeed.

On the APQ8060 Dragonboard the reset line to the BMP085 pressure
sensor is not deasserted on boot, so the driver needs to handle
this. For a simple GPIO line supplied as a descriptor (from a board
file, device tree or ACPI) this does the trick.

in as3935_event_work:

The trigger name is documented as unique but drivers are currently

Currently the ad7266 driver treats any failure to get vref as though the
regulator were not present but this means that if probe deferral is
triggered the driver will act as though the regulator were not present.
Instead only use the internal reference if we explicitly got -ENODEV which
is what is returned for absent regulators.

The ad7266 driver attempts to support deciding between the use of internal
and external power supplies by checking to see if an error is returned when
requesting the regulator. This doesn't work with the current code since the
driver uses a normal regulator_get() which is for non-optional supplies
and so assumes that if a regulator is not provided by the platform then
this is a bug in the platform integration and so substitutes a dummy
regulator. Use regulator_get_optional() instead which indicates to the
framework that the regulator may be absent and provides a dummy regulator
instead.

All regulator_get() variants return either a pointer to a regulator or an
ERR_PTR() so testing for NULL makes no sense and may lead to bugs if we
use NULL as a valid regulator. Fix this by using IS_ERR() as expected.

With the introduction of the ISA_BUS_API Kconfig option, ISA-style
drivers may be built for X86_64 architectures. This patch changes the
ISA Kconfig option dependency of the Apex Embedded Systems STX104 DAC
driver to ISA_BUS_API, thus allowing it to build for X86_64 as it is
expected to.

In some cases this can result in incorrectly returning a negative value
from asus_acpi_get_sensor_info and the AK8963 magnetometer failing to
show up.

with iio_device_claim_direct_mode() which does same. Includes a
tiny bit of refactoring (single case -> if) and simplified return
flow.
Also prevents a theoretical race condition by effectively taking the lock
a little earlier than before.

This patch is in response to that of
Gregor Boirie <gregor.boirie@parrot.com>
who proposed using a tight kthread within a device driver (be it with the
support factored out into a helper library) in order to basically spin as
fast as possible.
It is meant as a talking point rather than a formal proposal of the code
(though we are heading towards that I think).
Also gives people some working code to mess around with.
I proposed that this could be done with a trigger with a few constraints
and this is the proof (be it ugly) of that.
There are some constraints though, some of which we would want to relax
if this were to move forward.
* Will only run the thread part of the registered pollfunc. This is to
avoid the overhead of jumping in and out of interrupt context. Is the
overhead significant? Not certain but feels like it should be!
* This limitation precludes any device that 'must' do some work in
interrupt context. However, that is true of few if any drivers and
I suspect that any that do will be restricted to using triggers they
provide themselves. Usually we have a top half mainly to grab a
timestamp as soon after the dataready type signal as possible.

When attaching a pollfunc iio_trigger_attach_poll_func will allocate a
virtual irq and call the driver's set_trigger_state function. Fix error
handling to undo previous steps if any fails.
In particular this fixes handling errors from a driver's
set_trigger_state function. When using triggered buffers a failure to
enable the trigger used to make the buffer unusable.

This fixes odd behavior after reboot.
The fact that we set the device to powerdown mode is not sufficient to
prevent DRDY being active because we might still have an unread sample.
Even if powerdown was sufficient keeping DRDY disabled while trigger is
not active is a good idea.

("iio: st_sensors: verify interrupt event to status") caused
a regression when reading ST sensors from a HRTimer trigger
rather than the intrinsic interrupts: the HRTimer may
trigger faster than the sensor provides new values, and
as the check against new values available as a cause of
the interrupt trigger was done in the poll function,
this would bail out of the HRTimer interrupt with
IRQ_NONE.
So clearly we need to only check the new values available
from the proper interrupt handler and not from the poll
function, which should rather just read the raw values
from the registers, put them into the buffer and be happy.
To achieve this: switch the ST Sensors over to using a true
threaded interrupt handler.
In the interrupt thread, check if new values are available,
else yield to the (potential) next device on the same
interrupt line to check the registers. If the interrupt
was ours, proceed to poll the values.
Instead of relying on iio_trigger_generic_data_rdy_poll() as
a top half to wake up the thread that polls the sensor for
new data, have the thread call iio_trigger_poll_chained()
after determining that is is the proper source of the
interrupt. This is modelled on drivers/iio/accel/mma8452.c
which is already using a properly threaded interrupt handler.
In order to get the same precision in timestamps as
previously, where samples would be timestamped in the
poll function pf->timestamp when calling
iio_trigger_generic_data_rdy_poll() we introduce a
local timestamp in the sensor data, set it in the top half
(fastpath) of the interrupt handler and provide that to the
core when calling iio_push_to_buffers_with_timestamp().
Additionally: if the active scanmask is not set for the
sensor no IRQs should be enabled and we need to bail out
with IRQ_NONE. This can happen if spurious IRQs fire when
installing the threaded interrupt handler.
Tested with hard interrupt triggers on LIS331DL, then also
tested with hrtimers on the same sensor by creating a 75Hz
HRTimer and using it to poll the sensor.

Using the struct i2c_device->id field for naming the light sensor
is a bad idea: when booting from the pure device tree this is NULL
and that causes the device not to have the "name" property in
sysfs and that in turn confuses the "lsiio" command to stop listing
devices.
So instead of using the device .id, use the hard string "bh1780",
which works just fine.

i2c client data was the bh1780 state container, but it contains
the IIO device. So first dereference the IIO device from the
i2c client, then get the state container using the iio_priv()
call.

Temperature channels report scaled samples in Celsius although expected as
milli degree Celsius in Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-bus-iio.
Gains are not implemented at all for LPS001WP pressure and temperature
channels.
This patch ensures that proper offsets and scales are exposed to userpace
for both pressure and temperature channels.
Also fix a NULL pointer exception when userspace reads content of sysfs
scale attribute when gains are not defined.

This is not implemented and doesn't really make sense because IIO
proximity is unit-less.
Remove IIO_CHAN_INFO_SCALE from info_mask because so that the _scale
sysfs entry won't appear. This fixes userspace tools like generic_buffer
which abort when reads returns an error.

The Nuvoton NAU7802 ADC is able to adjust its gain but prior knowledge of
its possible values was required to adjust it. Users had to guess the
possible gain values based on the ADC datasheet or on this driver's code.
This exposes the possible values in the in_voltage_scale_available file of
each nau7802 ADC device. The gain is set for the whole ADC and is therefore
not configurable by channel. Thus, there exists only one
in_voltage_scale_available file for each nau7802 ADC device even if it has
two separate channels.

The I2C drivers have an i2c_device_id array but that information isn't
exported to the modules using the MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE() macro. So the
modules autoloading won't work if the I2C device is registered using
OF or legacy board files due missing alias information in the modules.
The issue was found using Kieran Bingham's coccinelle semantic patch:

Apply the correct mask to enable all available humidity integration
times. Currently, the driver defaults to 6500 and all is okay with that.
However, if 3850 is selected we get a stuck bit and can't change back
to 6500 or select 2500. (Verified with HDC1008)

Here's the big staging and iio driver update for 4.7-rc1.
I think we almost broke even with this release, only adding a few more
lines than we removed, which isn't bad overall given that there's a
bunch of new iio drivers added. The Lustre developers seem to have
woken up from their sleep and have been doing a great job in cleaning up
the code and pruning unused or old cruft, the filesystem is almost
readable :)
Other than that, just a lot of basic coding style cleanups in the churn.
All have been in linux-next for a while with no reported issues.

Mostly just debugfs changes, the long-known and messy races with removing
debugfs files should be fixed thanks to the great work of Nicolai Stange. We
also have some isa updates in here (the x86 maintainers told me to take it
through this tree), a new warning when we run out of dynamic char major
numbers, and a few other assorted changes, details in the shortlog.
All have been in linux-next for some time with no reported issues.

Pull i2c updates from Wolfram Sang:
- Peter Rosin did some major rework on the locking of i2c muxes by
seperating parent-locked muxes and mux-locked muxes.
This avoids deadlocks/workarounds when the mux itself needs i2c
commands for muxing. And as a side-effect, other workarounds in the
media layer could be eliminated. Also, Peter stepped up as the i2c
mux maintainer and will keep an eye on these changes.

The bmp280 driver also supports BMP180 which has a different chip id
with BMP280. The probe routine verifies that the device reports the
correct chip id but the error message is confusing as if BMP280's chip
id is always expected.

The root i2c adapter lock is then no longer held by the i2c mux during
accesses behind the i2c gate, and such accesses need to take that lock
just like any other ordinary i2c accesses do.
So, declare the i2c gate mux-locked, and zap the code that makes the
unlocked i2c accesses and just use ordinary regmap_write accesses.

The reason this patch fixes the deadlock is that T2 does not grab the
i2c adapter lock until the very end (and grabs the newfangled i2c mux
lock where it previously grabbed the i2c adapter lock).

This adds the following sysfs files according to the iio ABI:
-rw-r--r-- 4096 in_accel_oversampling_ratio
-r--r--r-- 4096 in_accel_oversampling_ratio_available
Internally, the device knows about 4 different power modes that differ
in oversampling ratio (and power consumption). We just show the user
what oversampling ratio(s) is/are available, depending on the current
frequency.
The referenced table in the datasheets makes it easier to understand.

Currently the TIA gain settings are exported to userspace as sysfs
entries that do not clearly represent their internal relation to the
sampling stages. The gain settings are enabled on a per-stage basis,
this can be seen in figure 24 of the current AFE4404 datasheet.
These gain settings should therefore be tied to the channels that are
read during these stages. Make this change here.

These AFEs have 4 ADC mesuring stages (called LED2, ALED2, LED1, and
ALED1 in the datasheet), we map these as channels, these stages can serve
different purposes depending on the application. For instance the AFE4404
has an additional LED (LED3), this LED can be timed to be active during
stage 2 (or anystage, but the datasheet describes this case and the name
of the stage reflects this use). This ability is used further in upcoming
parts that tie the front-end gain and the LED timings together. For these
reasons we remove explicit naming the channels.
Without channel names it is best that the index numbers are in order to
match the stage number, reorder the channel numbers.

Locking the two gain stages to the same setting adds no value for us,
so initialize them as unlocked and remove the sysfs for unlocking them.
This also allows us to greatly simplify showing and setting the gain
registers.

The Apex Embedded Systems STX104 DAC drivers does not do anything
special in module init/exit. This patch eliminates the module init/exit
boilerplate code by utilizing the module_isa_driver macro.
Additionally, the max_num_isa_dev macro is utilized to simplify the
determination of maximum possible STX104 devices in the system.

be I/O port-mapped addressable on an X86 platform. This patch adds an

The device has simple 8-bit registers but the driver incorrectly uses
block or word reads without checking functionality bits.
Fix by using i2c_smbus_read_i2c_block_data_or_emulated instead of
i2c_smbus_read_i2c_block_data or i2c_smbus_read_word_data. This will
check functionality bits and use the fastest available transfer method.

The hw_info array was indexed by enum inv_devices chip_type despite the
fact that the enumeration had more members than the array and was
ordered differently.
The patch cleans this up and adds explicit chip_types to i2c/spi/acpi
IDs. It also adds some stricter checks inside the driver core.
This happened to work so far because the differences between the
supported models are very minor.

This adds support for the BMP180 to the bmp280 iio driver.
The BMP180 has already been supported by misc/bmp085 driver but it
doesn't use iio framework. This change adds the kconfig dependency
not to be selected both of them in order to avoid any issues.

This patch exposes ALSTIM as illuminance_integration_time and ALSPGA as
illuminance_scale.
Changing ALSTIM also changes the number of bits available in the data
register. This is handled inside raw value reading because:
* It's very easy to shift a few bits
* It allows SCALE and INT_TIME to be completely independent controls
* Buffer support requires constant scan_type.realbits per-channel

Add a new rotation matrix sysfs attribute compliant with IIO core
mounting matrix API.
Matrix is retrieved from "in_anglvel_mount_matrix" and
"in_accel_mount_matrix" sysfs attributes. It is declared into mpu6050 DTS
entry as a "mount-matrix" property.
Old interface is kept for backward userspace compatibility and may be
retrieved from legacy platform_data mechanism only.

Expose a rotation matrix to indicate userspace the chip placement with
respect to the overall hardware system. This is needed to adjust
coordinates sampled from a sensor chip when its position deviates from the
main hardware system.
Final coordinates computation is delegated to userspace since:
* computation may involve floating point arithmetics ;
* it allows an application to combine adjustments with arbitrary
transformations.
This 3 dimentional space rotation matrix is expressed as 3x3 array of
strings to support floating point numbers. It may be retrieved from a
"[<dir>_][<type>_]mount_matrix" sysfs attribute file. It is declared into a
device / driver specific DTS property or platform data.

Some types of ST Sensors can be connected to the same IRQ line
as other peripherals using open drain. Add a device tree binding
and a sensor data property to flip the right bit in the interrupt
control register to enable open drain mode on the INT line.
If the line is set to be open drain, also tag on IRQF_SHARED
to the IRQ flags when requesting the interrupt, as the whole
point of using open drain interrupt lines is to share them with
more than one peripheral (wire-or).

This makes all ST sensor drivers check that they actually have
new data available for the requested channel(s) before claiming
an IRQ, by reading the status register (which is conveniently
the same for all ST sensors) and check that the channel has new
data before proceeding to read it and fill the buffer.
This way sensors can share an interrupt line: it can be flaged
as shared and then the sensor that did not fire will return
NO_IRQ, and the sensor that fired will handle the IRQ and
return IRQ_HANDLED.

The current buffer read code tries to optimize reads from the
sensor data registers by issuing a single read operation across
all the indata registers.
This doesn't work: when the LIS331DL accelerometer sensor is
configured to open drain, active low interrupt mode, this will
just clear the XDA (X-axis data available) bit in the STATUS_REG
register (0x27), while YDA, ZDA and even ZYXDA remain set to 1,
and the internal logic of the sensor holds the DRDY (INT1) line
asserted (the value of the status register is 0xee).
If we instead issue one read operation per enabled channel
(X, Y, Z) things start working and we can use open drain and
active low interrupts.
Note that a backported patch fixing this issue will be heading
via the fixes branch but changes in this file already in staging-next
will make that patch 'look' rather different. The code in here
is the correct one when that clash hits.

If i2c_device_id *id is NULL and acpi_match_device returns NULL too,
then chipset may be unitialized when accessing &ak_def_array[chipset] in
ak8975_probe. Therefore initialize chipset to AK_MAX_TYPE, which will
return an error when not changed.

Using this requires software triggers like CONFIG_IIO_HRTIMER_TRIGGER.
The device can be configured to do internal periodic sampling but does not
offer some sort of interrupt on data ready. Interrupts can only trigger when
values get out of a specific range.

This is a reimplementation of the old misc device driver for the
ROHM BH1780 ambient light sensor (drivers/misc/bh1780gli.c).
Differences from the old driver:
- Uses the IIO framework
- Uses runtime PM to idle the hardware after 5 seconds
- No weird custom power management from userspace
- No homebrewn values in sysfs
This uses the same (undocumented) device tree compatible-string
as the old driver ("rohm,bh1780gli").

BMI160 is an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) which provides acceleration
and angular rate measurement. It also offers a secondary I2C interface
for connecting a magnetometer sensor (usually BMM160).
Current driver offers support for accelerometer and gyroscope readings
via sysfs or via buffer interface using an external trigger (e.g.
hrtimer). Data is retrieved from IMU via I2C or SPI interface.
