Requests that triggers flushing volatile writeback cache to disk (barriers) have significant effect to overall performance. Block layer has sophisticated engine for combining several flush requests into one. But there is no statistics for actual flushes executed by disk. Requests which trigger flushes usually are barriers - zero-size writes. This patch adds two iostat counters into /sys/class/block/$dev/stat and /proc/diskstats - count of completed flush requests and their total time. Linux kernel
============
There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
