Ard Biesheuvel 557054dd76 ANDROID: kbuild: lto: permit the use of .a archives in LTO modules
Permit the use of AR archives in .a format as input to the partial link
that produces a kernel module. This permits a set of builtin objects to
be bundled with a module object, to create a single module carrying the
payload of several modules. This is used by the FIPS 140 module.

Ard Biesheuvel 5651d743ee ANDROID: kbuild: support fips140 integrity check in module linker script
To meet FIPS requirements, fips140.ko must check its own integrity at
load time. This requires that it know where its .text and .rodata
sections are. To allow this, make the module linker script support
defining symbols that enclose these sections.

[ebiggers: Separated this out from the original commit
"ANDROID: crypto: fips140 - perform load time integrity check" and
folded in two later changes to this script. See below.]

Original commits from android12-5.10:
  * 6be141eb36fe ("ANDROID: crypto: fips140 - perform load time integrity check")
  * e8d56bd78b6e ("ANDROID: module: apply special LTO treatment to .text even if CFI is disabled")
  * 109f31ac23f5 ("ANDROID: fips140: add userspace interface for evaluation testing")

Jing Leng 3f2bc7f028 kconfig: fix failing to generate auto.conf
[ Upstream commit 1b9e740a81f91ae338b29ed70455719804957b80 ]

When the KCONFIG_AUTOCONFIG is specified (e.g. export \
KCONFIG_AUTOCONFIG=output/config/auto.conf), the directory of
include/config/ will not be created, so kconfig can't create deps
files in it and auto.conf can't be generated.

Brenda Streiff 62542c5f18 kconfig: let 'shell' return enough output for deep path names
[ Upstream commit 8a4c5b2a6d8ea079fa36034e8167de87ab6f8880 ]

The 'shell' built-in only returns the first 256 bytes of the command's
output. In some cases, 'shell' is used to return a path; by bumping up
the buffer size to 4096 this lets us capture up to PATH_MAX.

The specific case where I ran into this was due to commit 1e860048c5
("gcc-plugins: simplify GCC plugin-dev capability test"). After this
change, we now use `$(shell,$(CC) -print-file-name=plugin)` to return
a path; if the gcc path is particularly long, then the path ends up
truncated at the 256 byte mark, which makes the HAVE_GCC_PLUGINS
depends test always fail.

Nathan Chancellor c8e9c2b52c Makefile.extrawarn: Move -Wunaligned-access to W=1
commit 1cf5f151d25fcca94689efd91afa0253621fb33a upstream.

-Wunaligned-access is a new warning in clang that is default enabled for
arm and arm64 under certain circumstances within the clang frontend (see
LLVM commit below). On v5.17-rc2, an ARCH=arm allmodconfig build shows
1284 total/70 unique instances of this warning (most of the instances
are in header files), which is quite noisy.

To keep a normal build green through CONFIG_WERROR, only show this
warning with W=1, which will allow automated build systems to catch new
instances of the warning so that the total number can be driven down to
zero eventually since catching unaligned accesses at compile time would
be generally useful.

Will McVicker 6a5e97033e FROMLIST: kbuild: install the modules.order for external modules
Add support to install the modules.order file for external modules
during module_install in order to retain the Makefile ordering
of external modules. This helps reduce the extra steps necessary to
properly order loading of external modules when there are multiple
kernel modules compiled within a given KBUILD_EXTMOD directory.

To handle compiling multiple external modules within the same
INSTALL_MOD_DIR, kbuild will append a suffix to the installed
modules.order file defined like so:

  echo "${KBUILD_EXTMOD}" | md5sum | cut -d " " -f 1

Example:
  KBUILD_EXTMOD=/mnt/a.b/c-d/my_driver results in:
  modules.order.7dd3eb90588c21ac15f23a96c2f6d8ec

The installed module.order.$(extmod_suffix) files can then be appended
to the staging modules.order file which defines the order to load all of
the modules during boot.

Example:
  cd $(MODLIB)
  find extra/. -name modules.order.* -exec cat {} >> modules.order \;

Will McVicker e5127ce6fa Revert "FROMLIST: kbuild: install the modules.order for external modules"
This reverts commit 77cbbcd16fab0db6c1251fed13fd1f12a08e3325. This patch
hasn't landed upstream yet, but needs a fix. So reverting it first to
help keep the fixes together in case we need to forward port this
feature.

Matthias Schiffer 8d1e3f3191 scripts/dtc: dtx_diff: remove broken example from help text
commit d8adf5b92a9d2205620874d498c39923ecea8749 upstream.

dtx_diff suggests to use <(...) syntax to pipe two inputs into it, but
this has never worked: The /proc/self/fds/... paths passed by the shell
will fail the `[ -f "${dtx}" ] && [ -r "${dtx}" ]` check in compile_to_dts,
but even with this check removed, the function cannot work: hexdump will
eat up the DTB magic, making the subsequent dtc call fail, as a pipe
cannot be rewound.

Simply remove this broken example, as there is already an alternative one
that works fine.

Heiko Carstens fc738764c9 recordmcount.pl: fix typo in s390 mcount regex
commit 4eb1782eaa9fa1c224ad1fa0d13a9f09c3ab2d80 upstream.

Commit 85bf17b28f97 ("recordmcount.pl: look for jgnop instruction as well
as bcrl on s390") added a new alternative mnemonic for the existing brcl
instruction. This is required for the combination old gcc version (pre 9.0)
and binutils since version 2.37.
However at the same time this commit introduced a typo, replacing brcl with
bcrl. As a result no mcount locations are detected anymore with old gcc
versions (pre 9.0) and binutils before version 2.37.
Fix this by using the correct mnemonic again.

Will McVicker ee1928bbd1 FROMLIST: kbuild: install the modules.order for external modules
Add support to install the modules.order file for external modules
during module_install in order to retain the Makefile ordering
of external modules. This helps reduce the extra steps necessary to
properly order loading of external modules when there are multiple
kernel modules compiled within a given KBUILD_EXTMOD directory.

To handle compiling multiple external modules within the same
INSTALL_MOD_DIR, kbuild will append a suffix to the installed
modules.order file defined like so:

  echo ${KBUILD_EXTMOD} | sed 's:[./_]:_:g'

Ex:
  KBUILD_EXTMOD=/mnt/a.b/c-d/my_driver results in:
  modules.order._mnt_a_b_c_d_my_driver

The installed module.order.$(extmod_suffix) files can then be cat'd
together to create a single modules.order file which would define the
order to load all of the modules during boot.

Jerome Marchand ab2ba2dd71 recordmcount.pl: look for jgnop instruction as well as bcrl on s390
commit 85bf17b28f97ca2749968d8786dc423db320d9c2 upstream.

On s390, recordmcount.pl is looking for "bcrl 0,<xxx>" instructions in
the objdump -d outpout. However since binutils 2.37, objdump -d
display "jgnop <xxx>" for the same instruction. Update the
mcount_regex so that it accepts both.

Will McVicker 3d42cc9e75 ANDROID: kbuild: add support for compiling external device trees
Similar to external modules, the device tree should also be allowed to
be compiled using out-of-tree source. This would allow one to further
separate the core kernel from the vendor-specific device trees. To do
this, we just need to allow the user to set the "dtstree" and
"DTC_INCLUDE" build properties in the build environment.

To setup the external device tree, you can follow these steps:

1) Move the device tree to your out-of-tree project.
2) Move the dt-bindings to your out-of-tree project.
3) Configure your build environment to set the following variables:

  dtstree=/path/to/device/tree
  DTC_INCLUDE=/path/to/device/tree/dtc/include-prefixes

If you are using build.sh, then you can use DTS_EXT_DIR to define the
dtstree.

GKI required the KMI_GENERATION to be added to the kernel version

we don't need it. Leave all the other stuff we added, though, as it
seems useful.

Kees Cook 7c0caa7e26 leaking_addresses: Always print a trailing newline
[ Upstream commit cf2a85efdade117e2169d6e26641016cbbf03ef0 ]

For files that lack trailing newlines and match a leaking address (e.g.
wchan[1]), the leaking_addresses.pl report would run together with the
next line, making things look corrupted.

Unconditionally remove the newline on input, and write it back out on
output.

Steven Rostedt be358af119 nds32/ftrace: Fix Error: invalid operands (*UND* and *UND* sections) for `^'
I received a build failure for a new patch I'm working on the nds32
architecture, and when I went to test it, I couldn't get to my build error,
because it failed to build with a bunch of:

Error: invalid operands (*UND* and *UND* sections) for `^'

issues with various files. Those files were temporary asm files that looked
like: kernel/.tmp_mc_fork.s

I decided to look deeper, and found that the "mc" portion of that name
stood for "mcount", and was created by the recordmcount.pl script. One that
I wrote over a decade ago. Once I knew the source of the problem, I was
able to investigate it further.

The way the recordmcount.pl script works (BTW, there's a C version that
simply modifies the ELF object) is by doing an "objdump" on the object
file. Looks for all the calls to "mcount", and creates an offset of those
locations from some global variable it can use (usually a global function
name, found with <.*>:). Creates a asm file that is a table of references
to these locations, using the found variable/function. Compiles it and
links it back into the original object file. This asm file is called
".tmp_mc_<object_base_name>.s".

The problem here is that the objdump produced by the nds32 object file,
contains things that look like:

 0000159a <.L3^B1>:
    159a: c6 00 beqz38 $r6, 159a <.L3^B1>
                        159a: R_NDS32_9_PCREL_RELA .text+0x159e
    159c: 84 d2 movi55 $r6, #-14
    159e: 80 06 mov55 $r0, $r6
    15a0: ec 3c addi10.sp #0x3c

Where ".L3^B1 is somehow selected as the "global" variable to index off of.

Then the assembly file that holds the mcount locations looks like this:

        .section __mcount_loc,"a",@progbits
        .align 2
        .long .L3^B1 + -5522
        .long .L3^B1 + -5384
        .long .L3^B1 + -5270
        .long .L3^B1 + -5098
        .long .L3^B1 + -4970
        .long .L3^B1 + -4758
        .long .L3^B1 + -4122
        [...]

And when it is compiled back to an object to link to the original object,
the compile fails on the "^" symbol.

Simple solution for now, is to have the perl script ignore using function
symbols that have an "^" in the name.

Nathan Chancellor 19532869fe kasan: always respect CONFIG_KASAN_STACK
Currently, the asan-stack parameter is only passed along if
CFLAGS_KASAN_SHADOW is not empty, which requires KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET to
be defined in Kconfig so that the value can be checked. In RISC-V's
case, KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET is not defined in Kconfig, which means that
asan-stack does not get disabled with clang even when CONFIG_KASAN_STACK
is disabled, resulting in large stack warnings with allmodconfig:

drivers/video/fbdev/omap2/omapfb/displays/panel-lgphilips-lb035q02.c:117:12: error: stack frame size (14400) exceeds limit (2048) in function 'lb035q02_connect' [-Werror,-Wframe-larger-than]

Ensure that the value of CONFIG_KASAN_STACK is always passed along to
the compiler so that these warnings do not happen when

Miles Chen d09c38726c scripts/sorttable: riscv: fix undeclared identifier 'EM_RISCV' error
Fix the following build failure reported in [1] by adding a conditional
definition of EM_RISCV in order to allow cross-compilation on machines
which do not have EM_RISCV definition in their host.

scripts/sorttable.c:352:7: error: use of undeclared identifier 'EM_RISCV'

EM_RISCV was added to <elf.h> in glibc 2.24 so builds on systems with
glibc headers < 2.24 should show this error.

Nathan Chancellor 0664684e1e kbuild: Add -Werror=ignored-optimization-argument to CLANG_FLAGS
Similar to commit 589834b3a0 ("kbuild: Add
-Werror=unknown-warning-option to CLANG_FLAGS").

Clang ignores certain GCC flags that it has not implemented, only
emitting a warning:

$ echo | clang -fsyntax-only -falign-jumps -x c -
clang-14: warning: optimization flag '-falign-jumps' is not supported
[-Wignored-optimization-argument]

When one of these flags gets added to KBUILD_CFLAGS unconditionally, all
subsequent cc-{disable-warning,option} calls fail because -Werror was
added to these invocations to turn the above warning and the equivalent
-W flag warning into errors.

To catch the presence of these flags earlier, turn
-Wignored-optimization-argument into an error so that the flags can
either be implemented or ignored via cc-option and there are no more
weird errors.

Ariel Marcovitch aa0f5ea12e checkkconfigsymbols.py: Remove skipping of help lines in parse_kconfig_file
When parsing Kconfig files to find symbol definitions and references,
lines after a 'help' line are skipped until a new config definition
starts.

However, Kconfig statements can actually be after a help section, as
long as these have shallower indentation. These are skipped by the
parser.

This means that symbols referenced in this kind of statements are
ignored by this function and thus are not considered undefined
references in case the symbol is not defined.

Remove the 'skip' logic entirely, as it is not needed if we just use the
STMT regex to find the end of help lines.

However, this means that keywords that appear as part of the help
message (i.e. with the same indentation as the help lines) it will be
considered as a reference/definition. This can happen now as well, but
only with REGEX_KCONFIG_DEF lines. Also, the keyword must have a SYMBOL
after it, which probably means that someone referenced a config in the
help so it seems like a bonus :)

The real solution is to keep track of the indentation when a the first
help line in encountered and then handle DEF and STMT lines only if the
indentation is shallower.

Ariel Marcovitch d62d5aed33 checkkconfigsymbols.py: Forbid passing 'HEAD' to --commit
As opposed to the --diff option, --commit can get ref names instead of
commit hashes.

When using the --commit option, the script resets the working directory
to the commit before the given ref, by adding '~' to the end of the ref.

However, the 'HEAD' ref is relative, and so when the working directory
is reset to 'HEAD~', 'HEAD' points to what was 'HEAD~'. Then when the
script resets to 'HEAD' it actually stays in the same commit. In this
case, the script won't report any cases because there is no diff between
the cases of the two refs.

Prevent the user from using HEAD refs.

A better solution might be to resolve the refs before doing the
reset, but for now just disallow such refs.

Daniel Mentz e4f264787c Revert "FROMLIST: kbuild: Add dtc flag test"
This reverts commit 47b5470fd1.

The variable DTC_FLAGS is a recursively expanded makefile variable which
means that it is re-expanded every time it is referenced. In other
words, a try-run is performed every time this variable is referenced
which is wasteful because the result will always be the same. In
addition, if dtc is invoked with $(call if_changed_dep,dtc,dtb),
DTC_FLAGS is apparently expanded three times. As a result, we observe 3
try-runs per dtc-option of which there are 8. This means that every
compilation of a device tree file is preceded by 24 try-runs! Every
invocation of dtc turns into 25 invocations! Additionally, it appears
as if Make prohibits parallelization if a recipe contains a reference to
the $(shell ....) function.
