block: Inactivate BDS when migration completes So far, live migration with shared storage meant that the image is in a not-really-ready don't-touch-me state on the destination while the source is still actively using it, but after completing the migration, the image was fully opened on both sides. This is bad. This patch adds a block driver callback to inactivate images on the source before completing the migration. Inactivation means that it goes to a state as if it was just live migrated to the qemu instance on the source (i.e. BDRV_O_INACTIVE is set). You're then supposed to continue either on the source or on the destination, which takes ownership of the image. A typical migration looks like this now with respect to disk images: 1. Destination qemu is started, the image is opened with BDRV_O_INACTIVE. The image is fully opened on the source. 2. Migration is about to complete. The source flushes the image and inactivates it. Now both sides have the image opened with BDRV_O_INACTIVE and are expecting the other side to still modify it. 3. One side (the destination on success) continues and calls bdrv_invalidate_all() in order to take ownership of the image again. This removes BDRV_O_INACTIVE on the resuming side; the flag remains set on the other side. This ensures that the same image isn't written to by both instances (unless both are resumed, but then you get what you deserve). This is important because .bdrv_close for non-BDRV_O_INACTIVE images could write to the image file, which is definitely forbidden while another host is using the image. block: Fix bdrv_drain in coroutine Using the nested aio_poll() in coroutine is a bad idea. This patch replaces the aio_poll loop in bdrv_drain with a BH, if called in coroutine. For example, the bdrv_drain() in mirror.c can hang when a guest issued request is pending on it in qemu_co_mutex_lock(). Mirror coroutine in this case has just finished a request, and the block job is about to complete. It calls bdrv_drain() which waits for the other coroutine to complete. The other coroutine is a scsi-disk request. The deadlock happens when the latter is in turn pending on the former to yield/terminate, in qemu_co_mutex_lock(). The state flow is as below (assuming a qcow2 image): mirror coroutine scsi-disk coroutine ------------------------------------------------------------- do last write qcow2:qemu_co_mutex_lock() ... scsi disk read tracked request begin qcow2:qemu_co_mutex_lock.enter qcow2:qemu_co_mutex_unlock() bdrv_drain while (has tracked request) aio_poll() In the scsi-disk coroutine, the qemu_co_mutex_lock() will never return because the mirror coroutine is blocked in the aio_poll(blocking=true). With this patch, the added qemu_coroutine_yield() allows the scsi-disk coroutine to make progress as expected: mirror coroutine scsi-disk coroutine ------------------------------------------------------------- do last write qcow2:qemu_co_mutex_lock() ... scsi disk read tracked request begin qcow2:qemu_co_mutex_lock.enter qcow2:qemu_co_mutex_unlock() bdrv_drain.enter > schedule BH > qemu_coroutine_yield() > qcow2:qemu_co_mutex_lock.return > ... tracked request end ... (resumed from BH callback) bdrv_drain.return ... block: Drain BH in bdrv_drained_begin During block job completion, nothing is preventing block_job_defer_to_main_loop_bh from being called in a nested aio_poll(), which is a trouble, such as in this code path: qmp_block_commit commit_active_start bdrv_reopen bdrv_reopen_multiple bdrv_reopen_prepare bdrv_flush aio_poll aio_bh_poll aio_bh_call block_job_defer_to_main_loop_bh stream_complete bdrv_reopen block_job_defer_to_main_loop_bh is the last step of the stream job, which should have been "paused" by the bdrv_drained_begin/end in bdrv_reopen_multiple, but it is not done because it's in the form of a main loop BH. Similar to why block jobs should be paused between drained_begin and drained_end, BHs they schedule must be excluded as well. To achieve this, this patch forces draining the BH in BDRV_POLL_WHILE. As a side effect this fixes a hang in block_job_detach_aio_context during system_reset when a block job is ready: #0 0x0000555555aa79f3 in bdrv_drain_recurse #1 0x0000555555aa825d in bdrv_drained_begin #2 0x0000555555aa8449 in bdrv_drain #3 0x0000555555a9c356 in blk_drain #4 0x0000555555aa3cfd in mirror_drain #5 0x0000555555a66e11 in block_job_detach_aio_context #6 0x0000555555a62f4d in bdrv_detach_aio_context #7 0x0000555555a63116 in bdrv_set_aio_context #8 0x0000555555a9d326 in blk_set_aio_context #9 0x00005555557e38da in virtio_blk_data_plane_stop #10 0x00005555559f9d5f in virtio_bus_stop_ioeventfd #11 0x00005555559fa49b in virtio_bus_stop_ioeventfd #12 0x00005555559f6a18 in virtio_pci_stop_ioeventfd #13 0x00005555559f6a18 in virtio_pci_reset #14 0x00005555559139a9 in qdev_reset_one #15 0x0000555555916738 in qbus_walk_children #16 0x0000555555913318 in qdev_walk_children #17 0x0000555555916738 in qbus_walk_children #18 0x00005555559168ca in qemu_devices_reset #19 0x000055555581fcbb in pc_machine_reset #20 0x00005555558a4d96 in qemu_system_reset #21 0x000055555577157a in main_loop_should_exit #22 0x000055555577157a in main_loop #23 0x000055555577157a in main The rationale is that the loop in block_job_detach_aio_context cannot make any progress in pausing/completing the job, because bs->in_flight is 0, so bdrv_drain doesn't process the block_job_defer_to_main_loop BH. qmp: Allow to change password on named block driver states. Signed-off-by: Benoit Canet <benoit@irqsave.net> Reviewed-by: Fam Zheng <famz@redhat.com> There was two candidate ways to implement named node manipulation: 1) { 'command': 'block_passwd', 'data': {'*device': 'str', '*node-name': 'str', 'password': 'str'} } 2) { 'command': 'block_passwd', 'data': {'device': 'str', '*device-is-node': 'bool', 'password': 'str'} } Luiz proposed 1 and says 2 was an abuse of the QMP interface and proposed to rewrite the QMP block interface for 2.0. Luiz does not like in 1 the fact that 2 fields are optional but one of them must be specified leading to an abuse of the QMP semantic. Kevin argumented that 2 what a clear abuse of the device field and would not be practical when reading fast some log file because the user would read "device" and think that a device is manipulated when it's in fact a node name. Documentation of 1 make it pretty clear what to do for the user. Kevin argued that all bs are node including devices ones so 2 does not make sense. Kevin also argued that rewriting the QMP block interface would not make disapear the current one. Kevin pushed the argument that making the QAPI generator compatible with the semantic of the operation would need a rewrite that no one has done yet. A vote has been done on the list to elect the version to use and 1 won. For reference the complete thread is: "[Qemu-devel] [PATCH V4 4/7] qmp: Allow to change password on names block driver states."
