The e1000 emulation silently discards RX packets if there's
insufficient space in the ring buffer. This leads to errors
on higher-level protocols in the guest, with no indication
about the error cause.
This patch increments the "Missed Packets Count" (MPC) and
"Receive No Buffers Count" (RNBC) HW counters in this case.
As the emulation has no FIFO for buffering packets that can't
immediately be pushed to the guest, these two registers are
practically equivalent (see 10.2.7.4, 10.2.7.33 in
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/products/networking/82574l-gbe-controller-datasheet.html).
On a Linux guest, the register content will be reflected in
the "rx_missed_errors" and "rx_no_buffer_count" stats from
"ethtool -S", and in the "missed" stat from "ip -s -s link show",
giving at least some hint about the error cause inside the guest.
If the cause is known, problems like this can often be avoided
easily, by increasing the number of RX descriptors in the guest
e1000 driver (e.g under Linux, "e1000.RxDescriptors=1024").
The patch also adds a qemu trace message for this condition.

The only difference between our implementation of the pcnet ioport
accessors and the mmio accessors is that the former check BCR_DWIO to
see what access widths are permitted for addresses in the aprom range
(0x0..0xf). In fact our failure to do this in the mmio accessors
is a bug (one which was fixed for the ioport accessors in
commit 7ba7974197 in 2011).
The data sheet for the Am79C970A does not describe the DWIO
bit as only applying for I/O space mapped I/O resources and
not memory mapped I/O resources, and our MMIO accessors already
honour DWIO for accesses in the 0x10..0x1f range (since the
pcnet_ioport_{read,write}{w,l} functions check it).
The data sheet for the later but compatible Am79C976 is clearer:
it states specifically "DWIO mode applies to both I/O- and
memory-mapped acceses." This seems to be reasonable evidence
in favour of interpretating the Am79C970A spec as being the same.
(NB: Linux's pcnet driver only supports I/O accesses, so the
MMIO access part of this device is probably untested anyway.)

Convert the pcnet-pci device away from using the old_mmio
MemoryRegionOps accessor functions.
This commit is a no-behaviour-change API conversion.
(Since PCNET_PNPMMIO_SIZE is 0x20, the old "addr & 0x10"
check and the new "addr < 0x10" check are exact opposites;
the new code is phrased to be parallel with the
pcnet_io_read/write functions.)
I have left a TODO comment marker because the similarity
between the MMIO and IO accessor behaviour is suspicious
and they could be combined, but this will be left to a
different patch.

The generated qapi_event_send_FOO() take an Error ** argument. They
can't actually fail, because all they do with the argument is passing it
to functions that can't fail: the QObject output visitor, and the
@qmp_emit callback, which is either monitor_qapi_event_queue() or
event_test_emit().
Drop the argument, and pass &error_abort to the QObject output visitor

A link property can be set during creation, with
object_property_add_link() and later with object_property_set_link().
add_link() doesn't add a reference to the target object, while
set_link() does.
Furthemore, OBJ_PROP_LINK_UNREF_ON_RELEASE flags, set during add_link,
says whether a reference must be released when the property is destroyed.
This can lead to leaks if the property was later set_link(), as the
added reference is never released.
Instead, rename OBJ_PROP_LINK_UNREF_ON_RELEASE to OBJ_PROP_LINK_STRONG
and use that has an indication on how the link handle reference

If the backend could not transmit a packet right away for some reason,
the packet is queued for asynchronous sending. The corresponding vq
element is tracked in the async_tx.elem field of the VirtIONetQueue,
for later freeing when the transmission is complete.
If a reset happens before completion, virtio_net_tx_complete() will push
async_tx.elem back to the guest anyway, and we end up with the inuse flag
of the vq being equal to -1. The next call to virtqueue_pop() is then
likely to fail with "Virtqueue size exceeded".
This can be reproduced easily by starting a guest with an hubport backend
that is not connected to a functional network, eg,
-device virtio-net-pci,netdev=hub0 -netdev hubport,id=hub0,hubid=0
and no other -netdev hubport,hubid=0 on the command line.
The appropriate fix is to ensure that such an asynchronous transmission
cannot survive a device reset. So for all queues, we first try to send
the packet again, and eventually we purge it if the backend still could
not deliver it.

The sabrelite machine model used by qemu-system-arm is based on the
Freescale/NXP i.MX6Q processor. This SoC has an on-board ethernet
controller which is supported in QEMU using the imx_fec.c module
(actually called imx.enet for this model.)
The include/hw/arm/fsm-imx6.h file defines the interrupt vectors for the
imx.enet device like this:
#define FSL_IMX6_ENET_MAC_1588_IRQ 118
#define FSL_IMX6_ENET_MAC_IRQ 119
According to https://www.nxp.com/docs/en/reference-manual/IMX6DQRM.pdf,
page 225, in Table 3-1. ARM Cortex A9 domain interrupt summary,
interrupts are as follows.
150 ENET MAC 0 IRQ
151 ENET MAC 0 1588 Timer interrupt
where
150 - 32 == 118
151 - 32 == 119
In other words, the vector definitions in the fsl-imx6.h file are reversed.
Fixing the interrupts alone causes problems with older Linux kernels:
The Ethernet interface will fail to probe with Linux v4.9 and earlier.
Linux v4.1 and earlier will crash due to a bug in Ethernet driver probe
error handling. This is a Linux kernel problem, not a qemu problem:
the Linux kernel only worked by accident since it requested both interrupts.
For backward compatibility, generate the Ethernet interrupt on both interrupt
lines. This was shown to work from all Linux kernel releases starting with
v3.16.

Although linkspeed and duplex can be set in a linux guest via 'ethtool -s',
this requires custom ethtool commands for virtio-net by default.
Introduce a new feature flag, VIRTIO_NET_F_SPEED_DUPLEX, which allows
the hypervisor to export a linkspeed and duplex setting. The user can
subsequently overwrite it later if desired via: 'ethtool -s'.
Linkspeed and duplex settings can be set as:
'-device virtio-net,speed=10000,duplex=full'
where speed is [0...INT_MAX], and duplex is ["half"|"full"].

In my "build everything" tree, a change to the types in
qapi-schema.json triggers a recompile of about 4800 out of 5100
objects.
The previous commit split up qmp-commands.h, qmp-event.h, qmp-visit.h,
qapi-types.h. Each of these headers still includes all its shards.
Reduce compile time by including just the shards we actually need.
To illustrate the benefits: adding a type to qapi/migration.json now
recompiles some 2300 instead of 4800 objects. The next commit will
improve it further.

The actual imx_eth_enable_rx() function is buggy.
It updates s->regs[ENET_RDAR] after calling qemu_flush_queued_packets().
qemu_flush_queued_packets() is going to call imx_XXX_receive() which itself
is going to call imx_eth_enable_rx().
By updating s->regs[ENET_RDAR] after calling qemu_flush_queued_packets()
we end up updating the register with an outdated value which might
lead to disabling the receive function in the i.MX FEC/ENET device.
This patch change the place where the register update is done so that the
register value stays up to date and the receive function can keep
running.

The point of writing a macro embedded in a 'do { ... } while (0)'
loop (particularly if the macro has multiple statements or would
otherwise end with an 'if' statement) is so that the macro can be
used as a drop-in statement with the caller supplying the
trailing ';'. Although our coding style frowns on brace-less 'if':
if (cond)
statement;
else
something else;
that is the classic case where failure to use do/while(0) wrapping
would cause the 'else' to pair with any embedded 'if' in the macro
rather than the intended outer 'if'. But conversely, if the macro
includes an embedded ';', then the same brace-less coding style
would now have two statements, making the 'else' a syntax error
rather than pairing with the outer 'if'. Thus, even though our
coding style with required braces is not impacted, ending a macro
with ';' makes our code harder to port to projects that use
brace-less styles.
The change should have no semantic impact. I was not able to
fully compile-test all of the changes (as some of them are
examples of the ugly bit-rotting debug print statements that are
completely elided by default, and I didn't want to recompile
with the necessary -D witnesses - cleaning those up is left as a
bite-sized task for another day); I did, however, audit that for
all files touched, all callers of the changed macros DID supply
a trailing ';' at the callsite, and did not appear to be used
as part of a brace-less conditional.

In current implementation, packet queue flushing logic seem to suffer
from a deadlock like scenario if a packet is received by the interface
before before Rx ring is initialized by Guest's driver. Consider the
following sequence of events:
1. A QEMU instance is started against a TAP device on Linux
host, running Linux guest, e. g., something to the effect
of:
qemu-system-arm \
-net nic,model=imx.fec,netdev=lan0 \
netdev tap,id=lan0,ifname=tap0,script=no,downscript=no \
... rest of the arguments ...
2. Once QEMU starts, but before guest reaches the point where
FEC deriver is done initializing the HW, Guest, via TAP
interface, receives a number of multicast MDNS packets from
Host (not necessarily true for every OS, but it happens at
least on Fedora 25)
3. Recieving a packet in such a state results in
imx_eth_can_receive() returning '0', which in turn causes
tap_send() to disable corresponding event (tap.c:203)
4. Once Guest's driver reaches the point where it is ready to
recieve packets it prepares Rx ring descriptors and writes
ENET_RDAR_RDAR to ENET_RDAR register to indicate to HW that
more descriptors are ready. And at this points emulation
layer does this:
s->regs[index] = ENET_RDAR_RDAR;
imx_eth_enable_rx(s);
which, combined with:
if (!s->regs[ENET_RDAR]) {
qemu_flush_queued_packets(qemu_get_queue(s->nic));
}
results in Rx queue never being flushed and corresponding
I/O event beign disabled.
To prevent the problem, change the code to always flush packet queue
when ENET_RDAR transitions 0 -> ENET_RDAR_RDAR.

The device is supposed to maintain two distinct contexts for transmit
offloads: one has parameters for both segmentation and checksum
offload, the other only for checksum offload. The guest driver can
send two context descriptors, one for each context (the TSE flag
specifies which). Then the guest can refer to one or the other context
in subsequent transmit data descriptors, depending on what offloads it
wants applied to each packet.
Currently the e1000 device stores just one context, and misinterprets
the TSE flags in the context and data descriptors. This is often okay:
Linux happens to send a fresh context descriptor before every data
descriptor, so forgetting the other context doesn't matter. Windows
does rely on separate contexts for TSO vs. non-TSO packets, but for
mostly-TCP traffic the two contexts have identical TCP-specific
offload parameters so confusing them doesn't matter.
One case where this confusion matters is when a Windows guest sets up
a TSO context for TCP and a non-TSO context for UDP, and then
transmits both TCP and UDP traffic in parallel. The e1000 device
sometimes ends up using TCP-specific parameters while doing checksum
offload on a UDP datagram: it writes the checksum to offset 16 (the
correct location for a TCP checksum), stomping on two bytes of UDP
data, and leaving the wrong value in the actual UDP checksum field at
offset 6. (Even worse, the host network stack may then recompute the
UDP checksum, "correcting" it to match the corrupt data before sending
it out a physical interface.)
Correct this by tracking the TSO context independently of the non-TSO
context, and selecting the appropriate context based on the TSE flag
in each transmit data descriptor.

sum_needed and cptse flags are received from the guest within each
transmit data descriptor. They are not part of the offload context;
instead, they determine how to apply a previously received context to
the packet being transmitted:
- If cptse is set, perform both segmentation and checksum offload
using the parameters in the TSO context; otherwise just do checksum
offload. (Currently the e1000 device incorrectly stores only one
context, which will be fixed in a subsequent patch.)
- Depending on the bits set in sum_needed, possibly perform L4
checksum offload and/or IP checksum offload, using the parameters in
the appropriate context.
Move these flags out of struct e1000x_txd_props, which is otherwise
dedicated to storing values from a context descriptor, and into the
per-packet TX struct.

Since commit ab06ec4357 we test the vmxnet3 device in the
pxe-tester, too (when running "make check SPEED=slow"). This now
revealed that the code is not working there if the host is a big
endian machine (for example ppc64 or s390x) - "make check SPEED=slow"
is now failing on such hosts.
The vmxnet3 code lacks endianness conversions in a couple of places.
Interestingly, the bitfields in the structs in vmxnet3.h already tried to
take care of the *bit* endianness of the C compilers - but the code missed
to change the *byte* endianness when reading or writing the corresponding
structs. So the bitfields are now wrapped into unions which allow to change
the byte endianness during runtime with the non-bitfield member of the union.
With these changes, "make check SPEED=slow" now properly works on big endian
hosts, too.

Substitute 0xFFFF whenever a checksum is computed as zero when
modifying a UDP datagram header. Doing this on IPv4 and TCP checksums

Add INTERFACE_CONVENTIONAL_PCI_DEVICE to all direct subtypes of
TYPE_PCI_DEVICE, except:
1) The ones that already have INTERFACE_PCIE_DEVICE set:
* base-xhci
* e1000e
* nvme
* pvscsi
* vfio-pci
* virtio-pci
* vmxnet3
2) base-pci-bridge
Not all PCI bridges are Conventional PCI devices, so
INTERFACE_CONVENTIONAL_PCI_DEVICE is added only to the subtypes
that are actually Conventional PCI:
* dec-21154-p2p-bridge
* i82801b11-bridge
* pbm-bridge
* pci-bridge
The direct subtypes of base-pci-bridge not touched by this patch
are:
* xilinx-pcie-root: Already marked as PCIe-only.
* pcie-pci-bridge: Already marked as PCIe-only.
* pcie-port: all non-abstract subtypes of pcie-port are already
marked as PCIe-only devices.
3) megasas-base
Not all megasas devices are Conventional PCI devices, so the
interface names are added to the subclasses registered by
megasas_register_types(), according to information in the
megasas_devices[] array.
"megasas-gen2" already implements INTERFACE_PCIE_DEVICE, so add
INTERFACE_CONVENTIONAL_PCI_DEVICE only to "megasas".

This adds a simplistic emulation of the Sun GEM ethernet controller
found in Apple ASICs.
Currently we only support the Apple UniNorth 1.x variant, but the
other Apple or Sun variants should mostly be a matter of adding
PCI IDs options.
We have a very primitive emulation of a single Broadcom 5201 PHY
which is supported by the MacOS driver.
This model brings out-of-the-box networking to MacOS 9, and all
versions of OS X I tried with the mac99 platform.
Further improvements from Mark:
- Remove sungem.h file, moving constants into sungem.c as required
- Switch to using tracepoints for debugging
- Split register blocks into separate memory regions

The rocker device still implements the old PCIDeviceClass .init()
instead of the new .realize(). All devices need to be converted to
.realize().
.init() reports errors with fprintf() and return 0 on success, negative
number on failure. Meanwhile, when -device rocker fails, it first report
a specific error, then a generic one, like this:
$ x86_64-softmmu/qemu-system-x86_64 -device rocker,name=qemu-rocker
rocker: name too long; please shorten to at most 9 chars
qemu-system-x86_64: -device rocker,name=qemu-rocker: Device initialization failed
Now, convert it to .realize() that passes errors to its callers via its
errp argument. Also avoid the superfluous second error message. After
the patch, effect like this:
$ x86_64-softmmu/qemu-system-x86_64 -device rocker,name=qemu-rocker

&error_fatal, or &error_abort. The !*errp conditional protects
against the latter two, but we then leak @local_err. Fortunately,
the qdev core always passes pointer to null, so this is "merely" a
latent bug.

This patch enables the virtio-net tx queue size to be configurable
between 256 (the default queue size) and 1024 by the user when the
vhost-user backend is used.
Currently, the maximum tx queue size for other backends is 512 due
to the following limitations:
- QEMU backend: the QEMU backend implementation in some cases may
send 1024+1 iovs to writev.
- Vhost_net backend: there are possibilities that the guest sends
a vring_desc of memory which crosses a MemoryRegion thereby
generating more than 1024 iovs after translation from guest-physical
address in the backend.

This patch adds a new internal "x-mtu-bypass-backend" property
to bypass backends for MTU feature negotiation.
When this property is set, the MTU feature is negotiated as soon
as supported by the guest and a MTU value is set via the host_mtu
parameter. In case the backend advertises the feature (e.g. DPDK's
vhost-user backend), the feature negotiation is propagated down to
the backend.
When this property is not set, the backend has to support the MTU
feature for its negotiation to succeed.
For compatibility purpose, this property is disabled for machine
types v2.9 and older.

This commit fixes a bug which causes the guest to hang. The bug was
observed upon a "receive overrun" (bit #6 of the ICR register)
interrupt which could be triggered post migration in a heavy traffic
environment. Even though the "receive overrun" bit (#6) is masked out
by the IMS register (refer to the log below) the driver still receives
an interrupt as the "receive overrun" bit (#6) causes the "Other" -
bit #24 of the ICR register - bit to be set as documented below. The
driver handles the interrupt and clears the "Other" bit (#24) but
doesn't clear the "receive overrun" bit (#6) which leads to an
infinite loop. Apparently the Windows driver expects that the "receive
overrun" bit and other ones - documented below - to be cleared when
the "Other" bit (#24) is cleared.
So to sum that up:
1. Bit #6 of the ICR register is set by heavy traffic
2. As a results of setting bit #6, bit #24 is set
3. The driver receives an interrupt for bit 24 (it doesn't receieve an
interrupt for bit #6 as it is masked out by IMS)
4. The driver handles and clears the interrupt of bit #24
5. Bit #6 is still set.
6. 2 happens all over again
The Interrupt Cause Read - ICR register:
The ICR has the "Other" bit - bit #24 - that is set when one or more
of the following ICR register's bits are set:
LSC - bit #2, RXO - bit #6, MDAC - bit #9, SRPD - bit #16, ACK - bit
#17, MNG - bit #18
This bug can occur with any of these bits depending on the driver's
behaviour and the way it configures the device. However, trying to
reproduce it with any bit other than RX0 is challenging and came to
failure as the drivers don't implement most of these bits, trying to
reproduce it with LSC (Link Status Change - bit #2) bit didn't succeed

removing virtio-net queues if the guest doesn't support multiqueue. But
it might be still referenced by virtio_net_set_status(), which needs to
be set NULL. And also the tx_waiting needs to be set zero to prevent

commit 33cd52b5d7 unset
cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet in TYPE_SYSBUS, making all
sysbus devices appear on "-device help" and lack the "no-user"
flag in "info qdm".
To fix this, we can set user_creatable=false by default on
TYPE_SYS_BUS_DEVICE, but this requires setting
user_creatable=true explicitly on the sysbus devices that
actually work with -device.
Fortunately today we have just a few has_dynamic_sysbus=1
machines: virt, pc-q35-*, ppce500, and spapr.
virt, ppce500, and spapr have extra checks to ensure just a few
device types can be instantiated:
* virt supports only TYPE_VFIO_CALXEDA_XGMAC, TYPE_VFIO_AMD_XGBE.
* ppce500 supports only TYPE_ETSEC_COMMON.
* spapr supports only TYPE_SPAPR_PCI_HOST_BRIDGE.
This patch sets user_creatable=true explicitly on those 4 device
classes.
Now, the more complex cases:
pc-q35-*: q35 has no sysbus device whitelist yet (which is a
separate bug). We are in the process of fixing it and building a
sysbus whitelist on q35, but in the meantime we can fix the
"-device help" and "info qdm" bugs mentioned above. Also, despite
not being strictly necessary for fixing the q35 bug, reducing the
list of user_creatable=true devices will help us be more
confident when building the q35 whitelist.
xen: We also have a hack at xen_set_dynamic_sysbus(), that sets
has_dynamic_sysbus=true at runtime when using the Xen
accelerator. This hack is only used to allow xen-backend devices
to be dynamically plugged/unplugged.
This means today we can use -device with the following 22 device
types, that are the ones compiled into the qemu-system-x86_64 and
qemu-system-i386 binaries:
* allwinner-ahci
* amd-iommu
* cfi.pflash01
* esp
* fw_cfg_io
* fw_cfg_mem
* generic-sdhci
* hpet
* intel-iommu
* ioapic
* isabus-bridge
* kvmclock
* kvm-ioapic
* kvmvapic
* SUNW,fdtwo
* sysbus-ahci
* sysbus-fdc
* sysbus-ohci
* unimplemented-device
* virtio-mmio
* xen-backend
* xen-sysdev
This patch adds user_creatable=true explicitly to those devices,
temporarily, just to keep 100% compatibility with existing
behavior of q35. Subsequent patches will remove
user_creatable=true from the devices that are really not meant to
user-creatable on any machine, and remove the FIXME comment from
the ones that are really supposed to be user-creatable. This is
being done in separate patches because we still don't have an
obvious list of devices that will be whitelisted by q35, and I
would like to get each device reviewed individually.

cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet was introduced by commit
efec3dd631 to replace no_user. It was
supposed to be a temporary measure.
When it was introduced, we had 54
cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines in the code.
Today (3 years later) this number has not shrunk: we now have
57 cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines. I think it
is safe to say it is not a temporary measure, and we won't see
the flag go away soon.
Instead of a long field name that misleads people to believe it
is temporary, replace it a shorter and less misleading field:
user_creatable.

AHB bus interface and integrates a link list DMA engine with direct
M-Bus accesses for transmitting and receiving packets. It has
independent TX/RX fifos, supports half and full duplex (1000 Mbps mode
only supports full duplex), flow control for full duplex and
backpressure for half duplex.
The FTGMAC100 also implements IP, TCP, UDP checksum offloads and
supports IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tag insertion and removal. It offers
high-priority transmit queue for QoS and CoS applications
This model is backed with a RealTek 8211E PHY which is the chip found
on the AST2500 EVB. It is complete enough to satisfy two different
Linux drivers and a U-Boot driver. Not supported features are :
- IEEE 802.1Q VLAN

This patch fixes two mistakes in the interrupt logic.
First we only trigger single-queue or multi-queue interrupts if the status
register is set. This logic was already used for non multi-queue interrupts
but it also applies to multi-queue interrupts.
Secondly we need to lower the interrupts if the ISR isn't set. As part
of this we can remove the other interrupt lowering logic and consolidate
it inside gem_update_int_status().

The FEC ethernet hardware module used on ColdFire SoC parts contains a
block of RAM used to maintain hardware counters. This block is accessible
via the usual FEC register address space. There is currently no support
for this in the QEMU mcf_fec driver.
Add support for storing a MIB RAM block, and provide register level
access to it. Also implement a basic set of stats collection functions
to populate MIB data fields.
This support tested running a Linux target and using the net-tools
"ethtool -S" option. As of linux-4.9 the kernels FEC driver makes
accesses to the MIB counters during its initialization (which it never
did before), and so this version of Linux will now fail with the QEMU
error:
qemu: hardware error: mcf_fec_read: Bad address 0x200

The spapr-vlan device in QEMU has always presented it's MAC address in
the device tree as an 8 byte value, even though PAPR requires it to be
6 bytes. This is because, at the time, AIX required the value to be 8
bytes. However, modern versions of AIX support the (correct) 6
byte value so they no longer require the workaround.
It would be neatest to always provide a 6 byte value but that would
cause a problem with old Linux kernel ibmveth drivers, so the old 8
byte value is still presented when necessary.
Since commit 13f85203e (3.10, May 2013) the driver has been able to
handle 6 or 8 byte addresses so versions after that don't need to be
considered specially.
Drivers from kernels before that can also handle either type of
address, but not always:
* If the first byte's lowest bits are 10, the address must be 6 bytes.
* Otherwise, the address must be 8 bytes.
(The two bits in question are significant in a MAC address: they
indicate a locally-administered unicast address.)
So to maintain compatibility the old 8 byte value is presented when
the lowest two bits of the first byte are not 10.

The vmstate_pci_device and vmstate_pcie_devices differ
just in the size of one buffer; combine the two using a _TEST
macro.
I think this is safe as long as everywhere which currently
uses either of these two uses the right type.
One thing that concerns me is that some places use pci_device_load/save
which does some irq mangling, but others just use the VMSTATE_PCI_DEVICE
macro - how are they getting the same irq mangling?
This passes a smoke test migrate of:

The dp8393x has several 32-bit values which are formed by concatenating
two 16 bit device register values. Attempting to do these inline
with ((s->reg[HI] << 16) | s->reg[LO]) can result in an unintended
sign extension because "x << 16" is of type 'int' even though s->reg
is unsigned, and so if the expression is used in a context where
it is cast to uint64_t the value is incorrectly sign-extended.
Fix this by using accessor functions with a uint32_t return type;
this also makes the code a bit easier to read.
This should fix Coverity issues 1307765, 1307766, 1307767, 1307768.
(To avoid having a ctda read function only used in a DPRINTF,
we move the DPRINTF down slightly so it can use the ttda function.)

This patches implements Device IOTLB support for vhost kernel. This is
done through:
1) switch to use dma helpers when map/unmap vrings from vhost codes
2) introduce a set of VhostOps to:
- setting up device IOTLB request callback
- processing device IOTLB request
- processing device IOTLB invalidation
2) kernel support for Device IOTLB API:
- allow vhost-net to query the IOMMU IOTLB entry through eventfd
- enable the ability for qemu to update a specified mapping of vhost
- through ioctl.
- enable the ability to invalidate a specified range of iova for the
device IOTLB of vhost through ioctl. In x86/intel_iommu case this is
triggered through iommu memory region notifier from device IOTLB
invalidation descriptor processing routine.
With all the above, kernel vhost_net can co-operate with userspace
IOMMU. For vhost-user, the support could be easily done on top by
implementing the VhostOps.

Current code that handles Tx buffer desciprtor ring scanning employs the
following algorithm:
1. Restore current buffer descriptor pointer from TBPTRn
2. Process current descriptor
3. If current descriptor has BD_WRAP flag set set current
descriptor pointer to start of the descriptor ring
4. If current descriptor points to start of the ring exit the
loop, otherwise increment current descriptor pointer and go
to #2
5. Store current descriptor in TBPTRn
The way the code is implemented results in buffer descriptor ring being
scanned starting at offset/descriptor #0. While covering 99% of the
cases, this algorithm becomes problematic for a number of edge cases.
Consider the following scenario: guest OS driver initializes descriptor
ring to N individual descriptors and starts sending data out. Depending
on the volume of traffic and probably guest OS driver implementation it
is possible that an edge case where a packet, spread across 2
descriptors is placed in descriptors N - 1 and 0 in that order(it is
easy to imagine similar examples involving more than 2 descriptors).
What happens then is aforementioned algorithm starts at descriptor 0,
sees a descriptor marked as BD_LAST, which it happily sends out as a
separate packet(very much malformed at this point) then the iteration
continues and the first part of the original packet is tacked to the
next transmission which ends up being bogus as well.
This behvaiour can be pretty reliably observed when scp'ing data from a
guest OS via TAP interface for files larger than 160K (every time for
700K+).
This patch changes the scanning algorithm to do the following:
1. Restore "current" buffer descriptor pointer from
TBPTRn
2. If "current" descriptor does not have BD_TX_READY set, goto #6
3. Process current descriptor
4. If "current" descriptor has BD_WRAP flag set "current"
descriptor pointer to start of the descriptor ring otherwise
set increment "current" by the size of one descriptor
5. Goto #1
6. Save "current" buffer descriptor in TBPTRn
This way we preserve the information about which descriptor was
processed last and always start where we left off avoiding the original
problem. On top of that, judging by the following excerpt from
MPC8548ERM (p. 14-48):
"... When the end of the TxBD ring is reached, eTSEC initializes TBPTRn
to the value in the corresponding TBASEn. The TBPTR register is
internally written by the eTSEC’s DMA controller during
transmission. The pointer increments by eight (bytes) each time a
descriptor is closed successfully by the eTSEC..."
revised algorithm might also a more correct way of emulating this aspect
of eTSEC peripheral.

Depending on QEMU network setup it is possible for us to receive a
complete Ethernet packet that is less 64 bytes long. One such example is
when QEMU is configured to use a standalone TAP device (not set to be a
part of any bridge) receives and ARP packet. In cases like that we need
to add more than just 4-bytes of CRC padding and ensure that our payload
is at least 60 bytes long, such that, when combined with CRC padding
bytes the resulting size is at least 802.3 minimum MTU bytes
long (64). Failing to do that results in code in etsec_walk_rx_ring()

Note: for cross-version migration compatibility,

The e1000e emulation zeroes out any used rx descriptor and then writes a
completely newly constructed value there. By doing this, it doesn't only
update the write-back area of the descriptors (as it's supposed to do),
but it also clears the buffer address, which real hardware doesn't do.
The spec explicitly mentions in chapter 7.1.8 that it is valid for a
driver to reuse a descriptor and only update the status field while
doing so, i.e. reusing the old buffer address:
If software statically allocates buffers, and uses memory read to
check for completed descriptors, it simply has to zero the status
byte in the descriptor to make it ready for reuse by hardware.
This patch fixes the behaviour to leave the buffer address in
descriptors unchanged even after the descriptor has been used.

from IMS when EIAM is not used.
2. Only bit that corresonds to the interrupt being
raised should be cleared.

This allows increasing the rx queue size up to 1024: unlike with tx,
guests don't put in huge S/G lists into RX so the risk of running into
the max 1024 limitation due to some off-by-one seems small.
It's helpful for users like OVS-DPDK which don't do any buffering on the
host - 1K roughly matches 500 entries in tun + 256 in the current rx
queue, which seems to work reasonably well. We could probably make do
with ~750 entries but virtio spec limits us to powers of two.
It might be a good idea to specify an s/g size limit in a future
version.
It also might be possible to make the queue size smaller down the road, 64
seems like the minimal value which will still work (as guests seem to
assume a queue full of 1.5K buffers is enough to process the largest
incoming packet, which is ~64K). No one actually asked for this, and
with virtio 1 guests can reduce ring size without need for host
configuration, so don't bother with this for now.

This pull request supersedes ppc-for-2.8-20160922. There was a clang

Included in this set of ppc and spapr patches are:
* TCG implementations for more POWER9 instructions
* Some preliminary XICS fixes in preparataion for the pnv machine type
* A significant ADB (Macintosh kbd/mouse) cleanup
* Some conversions to use trace instead of debug macros
* Fixes to correctly handle global TLB flush synchronization in
TCG. This is already a bug, but it will have much more impact
when we get MTTCG
* Add more qtest testcases for Power
* Some MAINTAINERS updates
* Assorted bugfixes
* Add the basics of NUMA associativity to the spapr PCI host bridge
This touches some test files and monitor.c which are technically
outside the ppc code, but coming through this tree because the changes
are primarily of interest to ppc.

This is a mostly-mechanical conversion that creates a new flat
union 'Netdev' QAPI type that covers all the branches of the
former 'NetClientOptions' simple union, where the branches are
now listed in a new 'NetClientDriver' enum rather than generated
from the simple union. The existence of a flat union has no
change to the command line syntax accepted for new code, and
will make it possible for a future patch to switch the QMP
command to parse a boxed union for no change to valid QMP; but
it does have some ripple effect on the C code when dealing with
the new types.
While making the conversion, note that the 'NetLegacy' type
remains unchanged: it applies only to legacy command line options,
and will not be ported to QMP, so it should remain a wrapper
around a simple union; to avoid confusion, the type named
'NetClientOptions' is now gone, and we introduce 'NetLegacyOptions'
in its place. Then, in the C code, we convert from NetLegacy to
Netdev as soon as possible, so that the bulk of the net stack
only has to deal with one QAPI type, not two. Note that since
the old legacy code always rejected 'hubport', we can just omit
that branch from the new 'NetLegacyOptions' simple union.

When a PCI device lives behind an IOMMU, it should use 'pci_dma_*' family of
functions when any transfer from/to guest memory is required while
'cpu_physical_memory_*' family of functions completely bypass any MMU/IOMMU in
the system.
vmxnet3 in some places was using 'cpu_physical_memory_*' family of functions
which works fine with the default QEMU setup where IOMMU is not enabled but
fails miserably when IOMMU is enabled. This commit converts all such instances
in favor of 'pci_dma_*'

Commit 9d29cdeaac (rtl8139: port
TallyCounters to vmstate) introduced in incompatibility in the v4
format as it omitted the RxOkMul counter.
There are presumably no users that were impacted by the v4 to v4'
breakage, so increase the save version to 5 and re-add the field,
keeping backward compatibility with v4'.
We can't have a field conditional on the section version in
vmstate_tally_counters since this version checked would not be the
section version (but the version defined in this structure). So, move
all the fields into the main state structure.

When processing MIPSnet I/O port write operation, it uses a
transmit buffer tx_buffer[MAX_ETH_FRAME_SIZE=1514]. Two indices
's->tx_written' and 's->tx_count' are used to control data written
to this buffer. If the two were to be equal before writing, it'd
lead to an OOB write access beyond tx_buffer. Add check to avoid it.

The Cadence GEM data sheet says:
"Wrap - marks last descriptor in transmit buffer descriptor list. This
can be set for any buffer within the frame."
which seems to imply that when the wrap bit is set so is the last bit.
Previously if the wrap bit is set, but the last is not then QEMU will
enter an infinite loop.

A guest can write zero to the DMACFG resulting in an infinite loop when

The ENET device (present in i.MX6) is "derived" from FEC and backward

When writing to MMFR register, the MDIO device and adress are selected by
bit 27 to 23 and bit 22 to 18 respectively. This is a total of 10 bits
that need to be used by the Phy chip/address decoding function.
This patch fixes the number of bits used from 9 to 10.

According to the FEC chapter of i.MX25 reference manual
When writing the MMFR register, bit 29 and 28 select the requested operation.
* 10 means read operation with valid MII mgmt frame
* 11 means read operation with non compliant MII mgmt frame
* 01 means write operation with valid MII mgmt frame
* 00 means write operation with non compliant MII mgmt frame
So while bit 28 does change beween read/write for valid MII mgmt frame, the
mening is inverted for non compliant MII mgmt frame.
Bit 29 on the other hand means read/write whatever the type of mgmt frame
involved.
So this patch change the operation selection from bit 28 to bit 29 as it is
more generic.

This patch introduces emulation for the Intel 82574 adapter, AKA e1000e.
This implementation is derived from the e1000 emulation code, and
utilizes the TX/RX packet abstractions that were initially developed for
the vmxnet3 device. Although some parts of the introduced code may be
shared with e1000, the differences are substantial enough so that the
only shared resources for the two devices are the definitions in
hw/net/e1000_regs.h.
Similarly to vmxnet3, the new device uses virtio headers for task
offloads (for backends that support virtio extensions). Usage of
virtio headers may be forcibly disabled via a boolean device property
"vnet" (which is enabled by default). In such case task offloads
will be performed in software, in the same way it is done on
backends that do not support virtio headers.
The device code is split into two parts:
1. hw/net/e1000e.c: QEMU-specific code for a network device;
2. hw/net/e1000e_core.[hc]: Device emulation according to the spec.
The new device name is e1000e.

These abstractions will be reused by e1000e emulation implementation

The last 8 bytes of the receive buffer list page (that has been supplied
by the guest with the H_REGISTER_LOGICAL_LAN call) contain a counter
for frames that have been dropped because there was no suitable receive
buffer available. This patch introduces code to use this field to
provide the information about dropped rx packets to the guest.
There it can be queried with "ethtool -S eth0 | grep rx_no_buffer".

Currently, the spapr-vlan device is trying to flush the RX queue
after each RX buffer that has been added by the guest via the
H_ADD_LOGICAL_LAN_BUFFER hypercall. In case the receive buffer pool
was empty before, we only pass single packets to the guest this
way. This can cause very bad performance if a sender is trying
to stream fragmented UDP packets to the guest. For example when
using the UDP_STREAM test from netperf with UDP packets that are
much bigger than the MTU size, almost all UDP packets are dropped
in the guest since the chances are quite high that at least one of
the fragments got lost on the way.
When flushing the receive queue, it's much better if we'd have
a bunch of receive buffers available already, so that fragmented
packets can be passed to the guest in one go. To do this, the
spapr_vlan_receive() function should return 0 instead of -1 if there
are no more receive buffers available, so that receive_disabled = 1
gets temporarily set for the receive queue, and we have to delay
the queue flushing at the end of h_add_logical_lan_buffer() a little
bit by using a timer, so that the guest gets a chance to add multiple
RX buffers before we flush the queue again.
This improves the UDP_STREAM test with the spapr-vlan device a lot:
Running
netserver -p 44444 -L <guestip> -f -D -4
in the guest, and
netperf -p 44444 -L <hostip> -H <guestip> -t UDP_STREAM -l 60 -- -m 16384
in the host, I get the following values _without_ this patch:
Socket Message Elapsed Messages
Size Size Time Okay Errors Throughput
bytes bytes secs # # 10^6bits/sec
229376 16384 60.00 1738970 0 3798.83
229376 60.00 23 0.05
That "0.05" means that almost all UDP packets got lost/discarded
at the receiving side.
With this patch applied, the value look much better:
Socket Message Elapsed Messages
Size Size Time Okay Errors Throughput
bytes bytes secs # # 10^6bits/sec
229376 16384 60.00 1789104 0 3908.35

Moving large arrays to heap to reduce stack usage.
Reduce size of a buffer allocated on stack to 0x600 bytes, which is the
maximal frame length when HUGEN bit is not set in MODER, only allocate
buffer on heap when that is too small. Thus heap is not used in typical

This patch introduces an upper bound for number of interrupts
per second. Without this bound an interrupt storm can occur as
it has been observed on Windows 10 when disabling the device.
According to the SPEC - Intel PCI/PCI-X Family of Gigabit
Ethernet Controllers Software Developer's Manual, section
13.4.18 - the Ethernet controller guarantees a maximum
observable interrupt rate of 7813 interrupts/sec. If there is
no upper bound this could lead to an interrupt storm by e1000
(when mit_delay < 500) causing interrupts to fire at a very high
pace.
Thus if mit_delay < 500 then the delay should be set to the
minimum delay possible which is 500. This can be calculated
easily as follows:
Interval = 10^9 / (7813 * 256) = 500.
