In the function scan_dma_completions() there is a reusage of tmp
variable. That coused a wrong value being used in some case when
reading a short packet terminated transaction from an endpoint,
in 2 concecutive reads.
This was my logic for the patch:
The req->td->dmadesc equals to 0 iff:
-- There was a transaction ending with a short packet, and
-- The read() to read it was shorter than the transaction length, and
-- The read() to complete it is longer than the residue.
I believe this is true from the printouts of various cases,
but I can't be positive it is correct.
Entering this if, there should be no more data in the endpoint
(a short packet terminated the transaction).
If there is, the transaction wasn't really done and we should exit and
wait for it to finish entirely. That is the inner if.
That inner if should never happen, but it is there to be on the safe
side. That is why it is marked with the comment /* paranoia */.
The size of the data available in the endpoint is ep->dma->dmacount
and it is read to tmp.
This entire clause is based on my own educated guesses.
If we passed that inner if without breaking in the original code,
than tmp & DMA_BYTE_MASK_COUNT== 0.
That means we will always pass dma bytes count of 0 to dma_done(),
meaning all the requested bytes were read.
dma_done() reports back to the upper layer that the request (read())
was done and how many bytes were read.
In the original code that would always be the request size,
regardless of the actual size of the data.
That did not make sense to me at all.
However, the original value of tmp is req->td->dmacount,
which is the dmacount value when the request's dma transaction was
finished. And that is a much more reasonable value to report back to
the caller.
To recreate the problem:
Read from a bulk out endpoint in a loop, 1024 * n bytes in each
iteration.
Connect the PLX to a host you can control.
Send to that endpoint 1024 * n + x bytes,
such that 0 < x < 1024 * n and (x % 1024) != 0
You would expect the first read() to return 1024 * n
and the second read() to return x.
But you will get the first read to return 1024 * n
and the second one to return 1024 * n.
That is true for every positive integer n.

Here's the big pull request for the Gadget
API. Again the majority of changes sit in dwc2
driver. Most important changes contain a workaround
for GOTGCTL being wrong, a sleep-inside-spinlock fix
and the big series of cleanups on dwc2.
One important thing on dwc3 is that we don't anymore
need gadget drivers to cope with unaligned OUT
transfers for us. We have support for appending one
extra chained TRB to align transfer ourselves.
Apart from these, the usual set of typos,
non-critical fixes, etc.

Commit 304f7e5e1d ("usb: gadget: Refactor request completion")

This patch updates the usb endpoint allocation scheme for atmel usba
driver to make sure all endpoints are allocated in order. This
requirement comes from the datasheet of the controller.
The allocation scheme is decided by fifo_mode parameter. For fifo_mode =
0 the driver tries to autoconfigure the endpoints fifo size. All other
modes contain fixed configurations optimized for different purposes. The
idea is somehow similar with the approach used on musb driver.

We scan this list each time when new UDC appears in system.

This commit add scanning of that list directly after unbinding

Kernel source files need not include <linux/kconfig.h> explicitly
because the top Makefile forces to include it with:

This commit removes explicit includes except the following:
* arch/s390/include/asm/facilities_src.h
* tools/testing/radix-tree/linux/kernel.h
These two are used for host programs.

With composite gadget (ACM + NCM), USB3380 to host TCP transfer
speed dropped to 150 Mbit/s compared to 900 Mbit/s with NCM
gadget. Problem seems to be that net2280/USB3380 has only four
DMA channels and those DMA channels are allocated to first HW
endpoints. Endpoint match function was mapping endpoint names
directly, so NCM did not get DMA for bulk endpoints.
This patch changed match_ep to prefer DMA enabled hw endpoints
for bulk usb endpoints and PIO for interrupt usb endpoints.

In the legacy behavior, and USB phy, upon detection a VBus signal, was
calling usb_gadget_vbus_(dis)connect().
This model doesn't work if the phy is generic and doesn't have an
adherence to the gadget API.
Instead of relying on the phy to call the gadget API, hook up the phy
notifier to report the VBus event, and upon it call the usb gadget API
ourselves.
This brings a new ordering problem, as before even if the usb_get_phy()
was failing because the UDC was probed before the phy, the phy would
call the gadget anyway, making the VBus connection event forwarded to
the gadget. Now we rely on the notifier, we have to ensure the
xxx_get_phy() does indeed work.
In order to cope with this, it is assumed that :
- for legacy platform_data machine, as the ordering cannot be ensured,
the phy must call usb_gadget_vbus_(dis)connect, such as
phy-gpio-vbus-usb.c
- for new devicetree platforms, we'll rely on the probe deferral, and
the phy can be gadget API agnostic.

The above commit reordered spin_lock/unlock and now `&dev->lock' is acquired
(rather than released) before calling `dev->driver->disconnect',
`dev->driver->setup', `dev->driver->suspend', `usb_gadget_giveback_request', and
`usb_gadget_udc_reset'.
But this *may* not be the right way to fix the problem pointed by d3cb25a121.
Note that the other usb/gadget/udc drivers do release the lock before calling
these functions. There are also inconsistencies within pch_udc.c, where
`dev->driver->disconnect' is called while holding `&dev->lock' in lines 613 and
1184, but not in line 2739.
Finally, commit d3cb25a121 may have introduced several potential deadlocks.
For instance, EBA (https://github.com/models-team/eba) reports:
Double lock in drivers/usb/gadget/udc/pch_udc.c
first at 2791: spin_lock(& dev->lock); [pch_udc_isr]
second at 2694: spin_lock(& dev->lock); [pch_udc_svc_cfg_interrupt]
after calling from 2793: pch_udc_dev_isr(dev, dev_intr);
after calling from 2724: pch_udc_svc_cfg_interrupt(dev);
Similarly, other potential deadlocks are 2791 -> 2793 -> 2721 -> 2657; and
2791 -> 2793 -> 2711 -> 2573 -> 1499 -> 1480.

Core changes:
- The gpio_chip is now a *real device*. Until now the gpio chips
were just piggybacking the parent device or (gasp) floating in
space outside of the device model. We now finally make GPIO chips
devices. The gpio_chip will create a gpio_device which contains
a struct device, and this gpio_device struct is kept private.
Anything that needs to be kept private from the rest of the kernel
will gradually be moved over to the gpio_device.
- As a result of making the gpio_device a real device, we have added
resource management, so devm_gpiochip_add_data() will cut down on
overhead and reduce code lines. A huge slew of patches convert
almost all drivers in the subsystem to use this.
- Building on making the GPIO a real device, we add the first step
of a new userspace ABI: the GPIO character device. We take small
steps here, so we first add a pure *information* ABI and the tool
"lsgpio" that will list all GPIO devices on the system and all
lines on these devices. We can now discover GPIOs properly from
userspace. We still have not come up with a way to actually *use*
GPIOs from userspace.
- To encourage people to use the character device for the future,
we have it always-enabled when using GPIO. The old sysfs ABI is
still opt-in (and can be used in parallel), but is marked as
deprecated. We will keep it around for the foreseeable future,
but it will not be extended to cover ever more use cases.
Cleanup:
- Bjorn Helgaas removed a whole slew of per-architecture <asm/gpio.h>
includes. This dates back to when GPIO was an opt-in feature and
no shared library even existed: just a header file with proper
prototypes was provided and all semantics were up to the arch to
implement. These patches make the GPIO chip even more a proper
device and cleans out leftovers of the old in-kernel API here
and there. Still some cruft is left but it's very little now.
- There is still some clamping of return values for .get() going
on, but we now return sane values in the vast majority of drivers
and the errorpath is sanitized. Some patches for powerpc, blackfin
and unicore still drop in.
- We continue to switch the ARM, MIPS, blackfin, m68k local GPIO
implementations to use gpiochip_add_data() and cut down on code
lines.
- MPC8xxx is converted to use the generic GPIO helpers.
- ATH79 is converted to use the generic GPIO helpers.
New drivers:
- WinSystems WS16C48
- Acces 104-DIO-48E
- F81866 (a F7188x variant)
- Qoric (a MPC8xxx variant)
- TS-4800
- SPI serializers (pisosr): simple 74xx shift registers connected
to SPI to obtain a dirt-cheap output-only GPIO expander.

We now finally make GPIO chips devices. The gpio_chip will create
a gpio_device which contains a struct device, and this gpio_device
struct is kept private. Anything that needs to be kept private
from the rest of the kernel will gradually be moved over to the
gpio_device.
- As a result of making the gpio_device a real device, we have added
resource management, so devm_gpiochip_add_data() will cut down on
overhead and reduce code lines. A huge slew of patches convert
almost all drivers in the subsystem to use this.
- Building on making the GPIO a real device, we add the first step of
a new userspace ABI: the GPIO character device. We take small
steps here, so we first add a pure *information* ABI and the tool
"lsgpio" that will list all GPIO devices on the system and all
lines on these devices.
We can now discover GPIOs properly from userspace. We still have
not come up with a way to actually *use* GPIOs from userspace.
- To encourage people to use the character device for the future, we
have it always-enabled when using GPIO. The old sysfs ABI is still
opt-in (and can be used in parallel), but is marked as deprecated.
We will keep it around for the foreseeable future, but it will not
be extended to cover ever more use cases.
Cleanup:
- Bjorn Helgaas removed a whole slew of per-architecture <asm/gpio.h>
includes.
This dates back to when GPIO was an opt-in feature and no shared
library even existed: just a header file with proper prototypes was
provided and all semantics were up to the arch to implement. These
patches make the GPIO chip even more a proper device and cleans out
leftovers of the old in-kernel API here and there.
Still some cruft is left but it's very little now.
- There is still some clamping of return values for .get() going on,
but we now return sane values in the vast majority of drivers and
the errorpath is sanitized. Some patches for powerpc, blackfin and
unicore still drop in.

- F81866 (a F7188x variant)

bdc_ep_disable() expects to be called with bdc->lock held.
The assumption is met in all the cases except for call from bdc_udc_exit(),
that is called from bdc_remove(). As a result a race can happen or unheld
bdc->lock can be unlocked in bdc_req_complete().
The patch proposes to acquire-release bdc->lock around bdc_ep_disable()
in bdc_udc_exit().

Since commit 855ed04a37 ("usb: gadget:
udc-core: independent registration of gadgets and gadget drivers") gadget
drivers can not assume that UDC drivers are already available on their
initialization. This broke the HACK, which was used in gadgetfs driver,
to get UDC controller name. This patch removes this hack and replaces it
by additional function in the UDC core (which is usefully only for legacy
drivers, please don't use it in the new code).

When I wrote the cleanup patch series, it was not clear how
exactly big-endian mode works on ixp4xx, and whether the driver
was doing this correctly. After discussing with Krzysztof Hałasa,
this has been clarified, so I can update the comment let pxa25x
big-endian (which we don't support) work the same way as ixp4xx.

The USB_FSL_MPH_DR_OF symbol is used to ensure the code that interprets
the DR device node is built whenever one of the two drivers (EHCI or
UDC) for the platform is enabled. However, if CONFIG_USB is disabled
and we only support gadget mode, this causes a Kconfig warning:
warning: (USB_FSL_USB2) selects USB_FSL_MPH_DR_OF which has unmet direct dependencies (USB_SUPPORT && USB)
We can avoid this warning by simply no longer using the symbol,
and making sure we enter the drivers/usb/host/ directory when
the UDC driver is enabled that needs the file, and then we use
Makefile syntax to ensure the file is built-in if needed.
There is currently a dependency on CONFIG_OF, but this is redundant,
as we already know that this is set unconditionally for the platforms
that use this driver.

This converts the pxa25x udc driver to use readl/writel as normal
driver should do, rather than dereferencing __iomem pointers
themselves.
Based on the earlier preparation work, we can now also pass
the register start in the device pointer so we no longer need
the global variable.
The unclear part here is for IXP4xx, which supports both big-endian
and little-endian configurations. So far, the driver has done
no byteswap in either case. I suspect that is wrong and it would
actually need to swap in one or the other case, but I don't know
which. It's also possible that there is some magic setting in
the chip that makes the endianess of the MMIO register match the
CPU, and in that case, the code actually does the right thing
for all configurations, both before and after this patch.

This removes the dependency on the mach/hardware.h header file
from the pxa25x_udc driver after the register definitions were
already unified in the previous patch.
Following the model of pxa27x_udc (and basically all other drivers
in the kernel), we define the register numbers as offsets from
the register base address and use accessor functions to read/write
them.
For the moment, this still leaves the direct pointer dereference
in place, instead of using readl/writel, so this patch should
not be changing the behavior of the driver, other than using
ioremap() on the platform resource to replace the hardcoded
virtual address pointers.

ixp4xx and pxa25x both use this driver and provide a slightly
different set of register definitions for it. Aside from that,
the definition in the ixp4xx-regs.h header conflicts with the
on in the pxa27x device driver when compile-testing that:

#define UDCCR IXP4XX_USB_REG(IXP4XX_USB_BASE_VIRT+0x0000)
This addresses both issues by moving all the definitions into the
pxa25x_udc driver itself. It turns out the only difference between
them was 'UDCCS_IO_ROF', and that could well be a mistake when it
was incorrectly copied from pxa25x to ixp4xx.

Most arches have an asm/gpio.h that merely includes linux/gpio.h. The
others select ARCH_HAVE_CUSTOM_GPIO_H, and when that's selected,
linux/gpio.h includes asm/gpio.h.
Therefore, code should include linux/gpio.h instead of including asm/gpio.h
directly.
Remove includes of asm/gpio.h, adding an include of linux/gpio.h when
necessary.

following features:
- Supports super, high and full speed
- Contains 30 pipes for bulk or interrupt transfer
- Contains dedicated DMA controller

Change behavior during registration of gadgets and
gadget drivers in udc-core. Instead of previous
approach when for successful probe of usb gadget driver
at least one usb gadget should be already registered
use another one where gadget drivers and gadgets
can be registered in udc-core independently.
Independent registration of gadgets and gadget drivers
is useful for built-in into kernel gadget and gadget
driver case - because it's possible that gadget is
really probed only on late_init stage (due to deferred
probe) whereas gadget driver's probe is silently failed
on module_init stage due to no any UDC added.
Also it is useful for modules case - now there is no
difference what module to insert first: gadget module
or gadget driver one.

pxa27x disconnects pullups on suspend but doesn't
notify the gadget driver about it, so gadget driver
can't disable the endpoints it was using.
This causes problems on resume because gadget core
will think endpoints are still enabled and just
ignore the following usb_ep_enable().
Fix this problem by calling

Following changes that appeared in lk 4.0.0, the gadget udc driver for
some ARM based Atmel SoCs (e.g. at91sam9x5 and sama5d3 families)
incorrectly deduced full-speed USB link speed even when the hardware
had negotiated a high-speed link. The fix is to make sure that the
UDPHS Interrupt Enable Register value does not mask the SPEED bit
in the Interrupt Status Register.
For a mass storage gadget this problem lead to failures when the host
had a USB 3 port with the xhci_hcd driver. If the host was a USB 2
port using the ehci_hcd driver then the mass storage gadget worked
(but probably at a lower speed than it should have).

Move ep_matches() function to udc-core and rename it to
usb_gadget_ep_match_desc(). This function can be used by UDC drivers
in 'match_ep' callback to avoid writing lots of repetitive code.
Replace all calls of ep_matches() with usb_gadget_ep_match_desc().

The same effect can be achieved by using capabilities flags, so now we can
get rid of handling of hardware specific limitations in generic code.

This patch fixes a bug in the error pathway of
usb_add_gadget_udc_release() in udc-core.c. If the udc registration
fails, the gadget registration is not fully undone; there's a
put_device(&gadget->dev) call but no device_del().

Due to some UDC controllers may not support stalling, usb gadget layer
needs to provide a generic way to inform gadget functions about non-standard
hardware limitations.
This patch adds 'quirk_stall_not_supp' field to struct usb_gadget and helper
function gadget_is_stall_supported(). It also sets 'quirk_stall_not_supp'
to 1 in at91_udc driver, which has such limitation.

Since 39b2bbe3d7 (gpio: add flags argument to gpiod_get*() functions)
which appeared in v3.17-rc1, the gpiod_get* functions take an additional
parameter that allows to specify direction and initial value for output.
Currently this parameter is made optional with the help of a cpp trick.
To allow dropping this hack convert callers to explictly pass a value
for flags.

In big endian cases, the macro cpu_to_le{16,32} unfolds to __swab{16,32}
which provides special case for constants. In little endian cases,
__constant_cpu_to_le{16,32} and cpu_to_le{16,32} expand directly to
the same expression. So, replace __constant_cpu_to_le{16,32} with
cpu_to_le{16,32} with the goal of getting rid of the definition of
__constant_cpu_to_le{16,32} completely.
The semantic patch that performs this transformation is as follows:
@@expression x;@@
(
- __constant_cpu_to_le16(x)
+ cpu_to_le16(x)
|
- __constant_cpu_to_le32(x)
+ cpu_to_le32(x)
)
