there were dependancies on the USB tree.
All of these have been in linux-next.

Thanks for Tony Lindgren's work, we can now have

The FUSBH200 and FOTG210 controllers implement sufficiently EHCI-
compatible debug ports to leverage ehci-dbgp from their respective
drivers. Rather than including <linux/usb/ehci_def.h> header, though,
they replicate the necessary declarations in their own headers. Move
the ehci-dbgp stuff into its own header as a first step towards removing
this redundancy.

The current EHCI implementation is prepared to toggle the
PORT_POWER bit to enable or disable a USB-Port. In some
cases this port power can not be just toggled by the PORT_POWER
bit, and the gpio-regulator is needed to be toggled too.
This patch defines a port power control interface ehci_port_power for
ehci core use, it toggles PORT_POWER bit as well as calls platform
defined .port_power if it is defined.

now that no UDC driver relies on the extra
'driver' argument to ->udc_stop(), we can
safely remove it.
This commit is based on previous work by
Robert Baldyga <r.baldyga@samsung.com> which
can be found at [1]; however that patch turned
out to have a high probability of regressing
many UDC drivers because of a blind search & replace
s/driver/$udc->driver/ which caused the 'driver'
argument to stop_activity() to be a valid non-NULL
pointer when it should be NULL, thus causing UDCs
to mistakenly call gadget driver's ->disconnect()
callback.

This patch adds a usb quirk to support devices with interupt endpoints
and bInterval values expressed as microframes. The quirk causes the
parse endpoint function to modify the reported bInterval to a standards
conforming value.
There is currently code in the endpoint parser that checks for
bIntervals that are outside of the valid range (1-16 for USB 2+ high
speed and super speed interupt endpoints). In this case, the code assumes
the bInterval is being reported in 1ms frames. As well, the correction
is only applied if the original bInterval value is out of the 1-16 range.
With this quirk applied to the device, the bInterval will be
accurately adjusted from microframes to an exponent.

Introduce the module_usb_composite_driver macro as a convenience macro
for USB gadget composite driver modules, similar to module_usb_driver.
It is intended to be used by drivers which init/exit section does
nothing but calling usb_composite_probe/usb_composite_unrregister. By
using this macro it is possible to eliminate a few lines of boilerplate

Since USB338X is register compatible with NET2280, I thought that it

Manufacturer's driver only supported the USB33X, did not follow the

This patch adds support for the PLX USB3380 and USB3382.
This driver is based on the driver from the manufacturer.
Since USB338X is register compatible with NET2280, I thought that it
would be better to include this hardware into net2280 driver.
Manufacturer's driver only supported the USB33X, did not follow the
Kernel Style and contain some trivial errors. This patch has tried to
address this issues.
This patch has only been tested on USB338x hardware, but the merge has
been done trying to not affect the behaviour of NET2280.

The upper timer_interval limit is arbitrary and much higher
than anything usable in the real world. Reducing it from 15s
to ~4s to make the timer_interval fit in an u32 does not make
much difference. The limit is still outside the practical
bounds.
This eliminates the need for a 64bit timer_interval, fixing a
build error related to 64bit division:

Lots of devices request much larger buffers than reasonable. This
cause real problems for users of hosts with limited resources.
Reducing the default buffer size to 16kB for such devices is
a reasonable trade-off between allowing them to aggregate traffic
and avoiding memory exhaustion on resource restrained hosts.

To have an idea of the effects of the protocol coalescing
it's useful to have some counters showing the different
aspects.
Due to the asymmetrical usbnet interface the netdev
rx_bytes counter has been counting real received payload,
while the tx_bytes counter has included the NCM/MBIM
framing overhead. This overhead can be many times the
payload because of the aggressive padding strategy of
this driver, and will vary a lot depending on device
and traffic.
With very few exceptions, users are only interested in
the payload size. Having an somewhat accurate payload
byte counter is particularly important for mobile
broadband devices, which many NCM devices and of course
all MBIM devices are. Users and userspace applications
will use this counter to monitor account quotas.
Having protocol specific counters for the overhead, we are
now able to correct the tx_bytes netdev counter so that
it shows the real payload

We pad frames larger than X to maximum size for devices which
don't need a ZLP after maximum sized frames. This allows the
device to optimize its transfers for one fixed buffer size.
X was arbitrarily set at 512 bytes regardless of real buffer
maximum, causing extreme overheads due to excessive padding of
larger tx buffers. Limit the padding to at most 3 full USB
packets, still allowing the overhead to payload ratio of 3/1.

Many newer NCM and MBIM devices will request a maximum tx
datagram count which is much smaller than our hard-coded
absolute max. We can reduce the overhead without sacrificing
any of the simplicity for these devices, by simply using the
true negotiated count in when calculated the maximum NTH and
NDP header sizes.

Datagram coalescing is an integral part of the NCM and MBIM
protocols, intended to reduce the interrupt load primarily
on the device end of the USB link. As with all coalescing
solutions, there is a trade-off between buffering and
interrupts.
The current defaults are based on the assumption that device
side buffers should be the limiting factor. However, many
modern high speed LTE modems suffers from buffer-bloat,
making this assumption fail. This results in sub-optimal
performance due to excessive coalescing. And in cases where
such modems are connected to cheap embedded hosts there is
often severe buffer allocation issues, giving very noticeable
performance degradation .
A start on improving this is going from build time hard
coded limits to per device user configurable limits. The
ethtool coalescing API was selected as user interface
because, although the tuned values are buffer sizes, these
settings directly control datagram coalescing.

Add handling of OS Extended Properties descriptors from configfs interface.
One kind of "OS Descriptors" are "Extended Properties" descriptors, which
need to be specified per interface or per group of interfaces described
by an IAD. This patch adds support for creating subdirectories
in interface.<n> directory located in the function's directory.
Names of subdirectories created become names of properties.
Each property contains two attributes: "type" and "data".
The type can be a numeric value 1..7 while data is a blob interpreted
depending on the type specified.
The types are:
1 - unicode string
2 - unicode string with environment variables
3 - binary
4 - little-endian 32-bit
5 - big-endian 32-bit
6 - unicode string with a symbolic link
7 - multiple unicode strings

Add handling of OS Extended Compatibility descriptors from configfs interface.
Hosts which expect the "OS Descriptors" ask only for configurations @ index 0,
but linux-based USB devices can provide more than one configuration.
This patch adds marking one of gadget's configurations the configuration
to be reported at index 0, regardless of the actual sequence of usb_add_config
invocations used for adding the configurations. The configuration is selected
by creating a symbolic link pointing to it from the "os_desc" directory
located at the top of a gadget's directory hierarchy.
One kind of "OS Descriptors" are "Extended Compatibility Descriptors",
which need to be specified per interface. This patch adds interface.<n>
directory in function's configfs directory to represent each interface
defined by the function. Each interface's directory contains two attributes:
"compatible_id" and "sub_compatible_id", which represent 8-byte
strings to be reported to the host as the "Compatible ID" and "Sub Compatible
ID".

There is a custom (non-USB IF) extension to the USB standard:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/windows/hardware/gg463182
They grant permission to use the specification - there is
"Microsoft OS Descriptor Specification License Agreement"
under the link mentioned above, and its Section 2 "Grant
of License", letter (b) reads:
"Patent license. Microsoft hereby grants to You a nonexclusive,
royalty-free, nontransferable, worldwide license under Microsoft’s

or licensable by Microsoft to make, use, import, offer to sell,
sell and distribute directly or indirectly to Your Licensees Your
Implementation. You may sublicense this patent license to Your
Licensees under the same terms and conditions."
The said extension is maintained by Microsoft for Microsoft.
Yet it is fairly common for various devices to use it, and a
popular proprietary operating system expects devices to provide
"OS descriptors", so Linux-based USB gadgets whishing to be able
to talk to a variety of operating systems should be able to provide
the "OS descriptors".
This patch adds optional support for gadgets whishing to expose
the so called "OS Feature Descriptors", that is "Extended Compatibility ID"
and "Extended Properties".
Hosts which do request "OS descriptors" from gadgets do so during
the enumeration phase and before the configuration is set with
SET_CONFIGURATION. What is more, those hosts never ask for configurations
at indices other than 0. Therefore, gadgets whishing to provide
"OS descriptors" must designate one configuration to be used with
this kind of hosts - this is what os_desc_config is added for in
struct usb_composite_dev. There is an additional advantage to it:
if a gadget provides "OS descriptors" and designates one configuration
to be used with such non-USB-compliant hosts it can invoke
"usb_add_config" in any order because the designated configuration
will be reported to be at index 0 anyway.
This patch also adds handling vendor-specific requests addressed
at device or interface and related to handling "OS descriptors".

The NCM class match in the cdc_mbim driver is confusing and
cause unexpected behaviour. The USB core guarantees that a
USB interface is in altsetting 0 when probing starts. This
means that devices implementing a NCM 1.0 backwards
compatible MBIM function (a "NCM/MBIM function") always hit
the NCM entry in the cdc_mbim driver match table. Such
functions will never match any of the MBIM entries.
This causes unexpeced behaviour for cases where the NCM and
MBIM entries are differet, which is currently the case for
all except Ericsson devices.
Improve the probing of NCM/MBIM functions by looking up the
device again in the cdc_mbim match table after switching to
the MBIM identity.
The shared altsetting selection is updated to better
accommodate the new probing logic, returning the preferred
altsetting for the control interface instead of the data
interface. The control interface altsetting update is moved
to the cdc_mbim driver. It is never necessary to change the
control interface altsetting for NCM.

Add new PHY drivers for SATA and USB in exynos, for USB in sunxi,
and a multi-purpose PHY in APM, all adapted to generic PHY framework.
Adapted USB3 PHY driver in OMAP to generic PHY driver and also used
the same driver for SATA in OMAP. It also includes miscellaneous cleanups
and fixes.
Rename struct omap_control_usb to struct omap_control_phy since it can
be used to control PHY of USB, SATA and PCIE. Also move the driver and
include files under *phy* and made the corresponding changes in the users

another substantial pull request with new features all over

dwc3 got a bit closer towards hibernation support with after
a few patches re-factoring code to be reused for hibernation.
Also in dwc3 two new workarounds for known silicon bugs have
been implemented, some randconfig build errors have been fixed,
and it was taught about the new generic phy layer.
MUSB on AM335x now supports isochronous transfers thanks to
George Cherian's work.
The atmel_usba driver got two crash fixes: one when no endpoint
was specified in DeviceTree data and another when stopping the UDC
in DEBUG builds.
Function FS got a much needed fix to ffs_epfile_io() which was
copying too much data to userspace in some cases.
The printer gadget got a fix for a possible deadlock and plugged

to bind to UAS devices.
This patch adds a flag for stream support to HCDs and evaluates
it.

The response iu struct before this patch has a size of 7 bytes (discounting
padding), which is weird since all other iu-s are explictly padded to
a multiple of 4 bytes.
More over submitting a 7 byte bulk transfer to the status endpoint when
expecting a response iu results in an USB babble error, as the device
actually sends 8 bytes.
Up on closer reading of the UAS spec:
http://www.t10.org/cgi-bin/ac.pl?t=f&f=uas2r00.pdf
The reason for this becomes clear, the 2 entries in "Table 17 — RESPONSE IU"
are numbered 4 and 6, looking at other iu definitions in the spec, esp.
multi-byte fields, this indicates that the ADDITIONAL RESPONSE INFORMATION
field is not a 2 byte field as one might assume at a first look, but is
a multi-byte field containing 3 bytes.
This also aligns with the SCSI Architecture Model 4 spec, which UAS is based
on which states in paragraph "7.1 Task management function procedure calls"
that the "Additional Response Information" output argument for a Task
management function procedure call is 3 bytes.
Last but not least I've verified this by sending a logical unit reset task
management call with an invalid lun to an actual uasp device, and received
back a response-iu with byte 6 being 0, and byte 7 being 9, which is the
responce code for an invalid iu, which confirms that the response code is
being reported in byte 7 of the response iu rather then in byte 6.
Things were working before despite this error in the response iu struct
definition because the additional response info field is normally filled
with zeros, and 0 is the response code value for success.

Updates of SoC-near drivers and other driver updates that makes more sense to
take through our tree.
The largest part of this is a conversion of device registration for some
renesas shmobile/sh devices over to use resources. This has required
coordination with the corresponding arch/sh changes, and we've agreed
to merge the arch/sh changes through our tree.
Added in this branch is support for Trusted Foundations secure firmware,
which is what is used on many of the commercial Nvidia Tegra products
that are in the market, including the Nvidia Shield. The code is local
to arch/arm at this time since it's uncertain whether it will be shared
with arm64 longer-term, if needed we will refactor later.

This patch adds "maxpacket_limit" to struct usb_ep. This field contains
maximum value of maxpacket supported by driver, and is set in driver probe.
This value should be used by autoconfig() function, because value of field
"maxpacket" is set to value from endpoint descriptor when endpoint becomes
enabled. So when autoconfig() function will be called again for this endpoint,
"maxpacket" value will contain wMaxPacketSize from descriptior instead of
maximum packet size for this endpoint.
For this reason this patch adds new field "maxpacket_limit" which contains
value of maximum packet size (which defines maximum endpoint capabilities).
This value is used in ep_matches() function used by autoconfig().
Value of "maxpacket_limit" should be set in UDC driver probe function, using
usb_ep_set_maxpacket_limit() function, defined in gadget.h. This function
set choosen value to both "maxpacket_limit" and "maxpacket" fields.
This patch modifies UDC drivers by adding support for maxpacket_limit.

USB function's configfs config group is created in a generic way in
usb/gadget/configfs.c:function_make(), which in turn delegates actual
allocation and setup of the USB function instance to a particular
implementation, e.g. in f_acm.c. The said implementation does its job
in a parameter-less function e.g. acm_alloc_instance(), which results
in creating an unnamed config group, whose name is set later in
function_make(). function_make() creates the name by parsing a string
of the form:
<function name>.<instance name>
which comes from userspace as a parameter to mkdir invocation.
Up to now only <function name> has been used, while <instance name>
has been ignored. This patch adds a set_inst_name() operation to
struct usb_function_instance which allows passing the <instance name>
from function_make() so that it is not ignored. It is entirely up to the
implementor of set_inst_name() what to do with the <instance name>.
In a typical case, the struct usb_function_instance is embedded in a
larger struct which is retrieved in set_inst_name() with container_of(),
and the larger struct contains a field to store the <instance name>.

enumeration when presented with this ordering. For now, follow the ehci
case and enable 'new scheme' by default for non-SuperSpeed devices.
To support this enumeration scheme on xhci the AddressDevice operation
needs to be performed twice. The first instance of the command enables
the HC's device and slot context info for the device, but omits sending
the device a SetAddress command (BSR == block set address request).
Then, after GetDescriptor completes, follow up with the full
AddressDevice+SetAddress operation.
As mentioned before, this ordering of events with USB3 devices causes an
extra state transition to be exposed to xhci. Previously USB3 devices
would transition directly from 'enabled' to 'addressed' and never need
to underrun responses to 'get descriptor'. We do see the 64-byte
descriptor fetch the correct data, but the following 18-byte descriptor
read after the reset gets:
bLength = 0
bDescriptorType = 0
bcdUSB = 0
bDeviceClass = 0
bDeviceSubClass = 0
bDeviceProtocol = 0
bMaxPacketSize0 = 9
instead of:
bLength = 12
bDescriptorType = 1
bcdUSB = 300
bDeviceClass = 0
bDeviceSubClass = 0
bDeviceProtocol = 0
bMaxPacketSize0 = 9
which results in the discovery process looping until falling back to
'old scheme' enumeration.

When multiple wireless USB devices are connected and one of the devices
disconnects, the host will distribute a new group key to the remaining
devicese using wusbhc_gtk_rekey. wusbhc_gtk_rekey takes the
wusbhc->mutex and holds it while it submits a URB to set the new key.
This causes a deadlock in wa_urb_enqueue when it calls a device lookup
helper function that takes the same lock.
This patch changes wusbhc_gtk_rekey to submit a work item to set the GTK
so that the URB is submitted without holding wusbhc->mutex.

The dsps platform needs to save save some registers at suspend time and
restore them after resume. This patch adds a struct for these registers,
and also lets the musb core know that the core registers need to be
saved as well.
We also have to explicitly de-assert the port reset upon resume on this
platform, but musb_port_reset() should not be called from glue layers.
Hence, introduce a flag in struct musb_hdrc_config for this.

Pull networking updates from David Miller:
1) The addition of nftables. No longer will we need protocol aware
firewall filtering modules, it can all live in userspace.
At the core of nftables is a, for lack of a better term, virtual
machine that executes byte codes to inspect packet or metadata
(arriving interface index, etc.) and make verdict decisions.
Besides support for loading packet contents and comparing them, the
interpreter supports lookups in various datastructures as
fundamental operations. For example sets are supports, and
therefore one could create a set of whitelist IP address entries
which have ACCEPT verdicts attached to them, and use the appropriate
byte codes to do such lookups.
Since the interpreted code is composed in userspace, userspace can
do things like optimize things before giving it to the kernel.
Another major improvement is the capability of atomically updating
portions of the ruleset. In the existing netfilter implementation,
one has to update the entire rule set in order to make a change and
this is very expensive.
Userspace tools exist to create nftables rules using existing
netfilter rule sets, but both kernel implementations will need to
co-exist for quite some time as we transition from the old to the
new stuff.
Kudos to Patrick McHardy, Pablo Neira Ayuso, and others who have
worked so hard on this.
2) Daniel Borkmann and Hannes Frederic Sowa made several improvements
to our pseudo-random number generator, mostly used for things like
UDP port randomization and netfitler, amongst other things.
In particular the taus88 generater is updated to taus113, and test
cases are added.
3) Support 64-bit rates in HTB and TBF schedulers, from Eric Dumazet
and Yang Yingliang.
4) Add support for new 577xx tigon3 chips to tg3 driver, from Nithin
Sujir.
5) Fix two fatal flaws in TCP dynamic right sizing, from Eric Dumazet,
Neal Cardwell, and Yuchung Cheng.
6) Allow IP_TOS and IP_TTL to be specified in sendmsg() ancillary
control message data, much like other socket option attributes.
From Francesco Fusco.
7) Allow applications to specify a cap on the rate computed
automatically by the kernel for pacing flows, via a new
SO_MAX_PACING_RATE socket option. From Eric Dumazet.
8) Make the initial autotuned send buffer sizing in TCP more closely
reflect actual needs, from Eric Dumazet.
9) Currently early socket demux only happens for TCP sockets, but we
can do it for connected UDP sockets too. Implementation from Shawn
Bohrer.
10) Refactor inet socket demux with the goal of improving hash demux
performance for listening sockets. With the main goals being able
to use RCU lookups on even request sockets, and eliminating the
listening lock contention. From Eric Dumazet.
11) The bonding layer has many demuxes in it's fast path, and an RCU
conversion was started back in 3.11, several changes here extend the
RCU usage to even more locations. From Ding Tianhong and Wang
Yufen, based upon suggestions by Nikolay Aleksandrov and Veaceslav
Falico.
12) Allow stackability of segmentation offloads to, in particular, allow
segmentation offloading over tunnels. From Eric Dumazet.
13) Significantly improve the handling of secret keys we input into the
various hash functions in the inet hashtables, TCP fast open, as
well as syncookies. From Hannes Frederic Sowa. The key fundamental
operation is "net_get_random_once()" which uses static keys.
Hannes even extended this to ipv4/ipv6 fragmentation handling and
our generic flow dissector.
14) The generic driver layer takes care now to set the driver data to
NULL on device removal, so it's no longer necessary for drivers to
explicitly set it to NULL any more. Many drivers have been cleaned
up in this way, from Jingoo Han.
15) Add a BPF based packet scheduler classifier, from Daniel Borkmann.
16) Improve CRC32 interfaces and generic SKB checksum iterators so that
SCTP's checksumming can more cleanly be handled. Also from Daniel
Borkmann.
17) Add a new PMTU discovery mode, IP_PMTUDISC_INTERFACE, which forces
using the interface MTU value. This helps avoid PMTU attacks,
particularly on DNS servers. From Hannes Frederic Sowa.
18) Use generic XPS for transmit queue steering rather than internal
(re-)implementation in virtio-net. From Jason Wang.

Commit 3fa4d734 (usb: phy: rename nop_usb_xceiv => usb_phy_gen_xceiv)
changed the conditional around the declaration of usb_nop_xceiv_register
from
#if defined(CONFIG_NOP_USB_XCEIV) ||
(defined(CONFIG_NOP_USB_XCEIV_MODULE) && defined(MODULE))
to
#if IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_NOP_USB_XCEIV)
While that looks the same, it is semantically different. The first expression
is true if CONFIG_NOP_USB_XCEIV is built as module and if the including
code is built as module. The second expression is true if code depending on
CONFIG_NOP_USB_XCEIV if built as module or into the kernel.
As a result, the arm:allmodconfig build fails with
arch/arm/mach-omap2/built-in.o: In function `omap3_evm_init':
arch/arm/mach-omap2/board-omap3evm.c:703: undefined reference to

The following patch is required to resolve remote wake issues with
certain devices.
Issue description:
If the remote wake is issued from the device in a specific timing
condition while the system is entering sleep state then it may cause
system to auto wake on subsequent sleep cycle.
Root cause:
Host controller rebroadcasts the Resume signal > 100 µseconds after
receiving the original resume event from the device. For proper
function, some devices may require the rebroadcast of resume event
within the USB spec of 100µS.
Workaroud:
1. Filter the AMD platforms with Yangtze chipset, then judge of all the usb
devices are mouse or not. And get out the port id which attached a mouse
with Pixart controller.
2. Then reset the port which attached issue device during system resume
from S3.
[Q] Why the special devices are only mice? Would high speed devices
such as 3G modem or USB Bluetooth adapter trigger this issue?
- Current this sensitivity is only confined to devices that use Pixart
controllers. This controller is designed for use with LS mouse
devices only. We have not observed any other devices failing. There
may be a small risk for other devices also but this patch (reset
device in resume phase) will cover the cases if required.
[Q] Shouldn’t the resume signal be sent within 100 us for every
device?
- The Host controller may not send the resume signal within 100us,
this our host controller specification change. This is why we
require the patch to prevent side effects on certain known devices.
[Q] Why would clicking mouse INTENSELY to wake the system up trigger
this issue?
- This behavior is specific to the devices that use Pixart controller.
It is timing dependent on when the resume event is triggered during
the sleep state.
[Q] Is it a host controller issue or mouse?
- It is the host controller behavior during resume that triggers the
device incorrect behavior on the next resume.
This patch sets USB_QUIRK_RESET_RESUME flag for these Pixart-based mice
when they attached to platforms with AMD Yangtze chipset.

Now that URBs can be completed inside tasklets, we need a way of
determining whether a completion handler for a given endpoint is
currently running. Otherwise it's not possible to maintain the API
guarantee about keeping isochronous streams synchronous when an

This patch fixes a build error that occurs when CONFIG_PM is enabled
and CONFIG_PM_SLEEP isn't:
>> drivers/usb/host/ohci-pci.c:294:10: error: 'usb_hcd_pci_pm_ops' undeclared here (not in a function)
.pm = &usb_hcd_pci_pm_ops
Since the usb_hcd_pci_pm_ops structure is defined and used when
CONFIG_PM is enabled, its declaration should not be protected by
CONFIG_PM_SLEEP.

When the HWA encounters a STALL on a control endpoint, it should clear the
RPIPE_STALL feature on the RPIPE before processing the next transfer
request. Otherwise, all transfer requests on that endpoint after the
first STALL will fail because the RPIPE is still in the halted state.
This also removes the unneccessary call to spin_lock_irqsave for a nested
lock that was present in the first patch.

Currently, the controller only runs when the ci->vbus_active is true.
So the flag CI_HDRC_PULLUP_ON_VBUS is useless no longer.
If the user doesn't have otgsc, he/she needs to change ci_handle_vbus_change
to update ci->vbus_active.

Since we need otgsc to know vbus's status at some chipidea
controllers even it is peripheral-only mode. Besides, some
SoCs (eg, AR9331 SoC) don't have otgsc register even
the DCCPARAMS_DC and DCCPARAMS_HC are both 1 at CAP_DCCPARAMS.
We inroduce flag CI_HDRC_DUAL_ROLE_NOT_OTG to indicate if the
controller is dual role, but not supports OTG. If this flag is
not set, we follow the rule that if DCCPARAMS_DC and DCCPARAMS_HC
are both 1 at CAP_DCCPARAMS, then this controller is otg capable.

All patches here have been pending on linux-usb
and sitting in linux-next for a while now.
The biggest things in this tag are:
DWC3 learned proper usage of threaded IRQ
handlers and now we spend very little time
in hardirq context.
MUSB now has proper support for BeagleBone and
Beaglebone Black.
Tegra's USB support also got quite a bit of love
and is learning to use PHY layer and generic DT
attributes.
Other than that, the usual pack of cleanups and
non-critical fixes follow.

This patch introduces support of DMA SG if the USB host controller
which usbnet device is attached to is capable of building packet from
discontinuous buffers.
The patch supports passing the skb fragment buffers to usb stack directly
via urb->sg.

This patch implements the mechanism of giveback of URB in
tasklet context, so that hardware interrupt handling time for
usb host controller can be saved much, and HCD interrupt handling
can be simplified.
Motivations:
1), on some arch(such as ARM), DMA mapping/unmapping is a bit
time-consuming, for example: when accessing usb mass storage
via EHCI on pandaboard, the common length of transfer buffer is 120KB,
the time consumed on DMA unmapping may reach hundreds of microseconds;
even on A15 based box, the time is still about scores of microseconds
2), on some arch, reading DMA coherent memoery is very time-consuming,
the most common example is usb video class driver[1]
3), driver's complete() callback may do much things which is driver
specific, so the time is consumed unnecessarily in hardware irq context.
4), running driver's complete() callback in hardware irq context causes
that host controller driver has to release its lock in interrupt handler,
so reacquiring the lock after return may busy wait a while and increase
interrupt handling time. More seriously, releasing the HCD lock makes
HCD becoming quite complicated to deal with introduced races.
So the patch proposes to run giveback of URB in tasklet context, then
time consumed in HCD irq handling doesn't depend on drivers' complete and
DMA mapping/unmapping any more, also we can simplify HCD since the HCD
lock isn't needed to be released during irq handling.
The patch should be reasonable and doable:
1), for drivers, they don't care if the complete() is called in hard irq
context or softirq context
2), the biggest change is the situation in which usb_submit_urb() is called
in complete() callback, so the introduced tasklet schedule delay might be a
con, but it shouldn't be a big deal:
- control/bulk asynchronous transfer isn't sensitive to schedule
delay
- the patch schedules giveback of periodic URBs using
tasklet_hi_schedule, so the introduced delay should be very
small
- for ISOC transfer, generally, drivers submit several URBs
concurrently to avoid interrupt delay, so it is OK with the
little schedule delay.
- for interrupt transfer, generally, drivers only submit one URB
at the same time, but interrupt transfer is often used in event
report, polling, ... situations, and a little delay should be OK.
Considered that HCDs may optimize on submitting URB in complete(), the
patch may cause the optimization not working, so introduces one flag to mark
if the HCD supports to run giveback URB in tasklet context. When all HCDs
are ready, the flag can be removed.
